The food is great, consistent, and the best in the Old Town, Gold Coast. Have been ordering from them two to three times a month for the past five years. The only thing I could ask for to be better is the telephone ordering process. This is a family business and sometimes they have a relative take the phone orders for pickup / delivery whose English is worse then my Chinese. And I don't speak Chinese. We normally get the vegatable mai-fun for my vegetarian wife and I get the General Tso Chicken. I cannot find better in ChinaTown or when I travel.

I placed an order with this company through the Seamless website. After not receiving this order over an hour after it was placed, I tried to call Peking and only got a busy signal over and over again. I finally contacted a rep from Seamless who has since canceled my order and refunded my money. I'm guessing Peking closed down for the night and took the phone off the hook. Will never order from again!

Non-sketchiest looking establishment on the inside? No. Flavorful and dependable? Yes! These are good things, people! It's the best and most consistent Chinese food I've found in Chicago (granted I've never been to Chinatown) since Far East on Diversey was put out of business (by Miss Asia). Minus one for price though. Boo, expensive Old Town.

I agree w/ the two prior ratings. Average could be good with a few minor improvements, but with the number of small concerns plaguing this place, a two is fitting. The flavor is actually done pretty well but their chicken definitely scares me, dark in appearance and not great in terms of texture. Let's face it, your going to this place for convinience.

Love their rice. Then again I am arabian and we are made of rice pretty much.....I do not trust their "meats" got their beef fried rice once and will never do it again, the beef was NOT beef.....the chicken is okay but you have to turn a blind eye....

Don't expect any miracles. It dependable, and fairly flavorful, if you order any of the fried and then apply sauce dishes like General Tsao, Orange, or Kung Pao. If you like saucy dishes, you'll probably like this place. Its definitely not bad. A touch on the greasy . They are the only Chinese restaurant I know that does not offer Asian vegetables. Its convenient for me, but overpriced like everything else in the neighborhood. It would get 3 stars if it were cheaper.

Always wondered about this place. Passed it many times but never in the mood. Being that I was partying at North beach and taking excursions to feed the meter, I was walking passed it often. On the last trip back, I stopped in for an order of egg rolls. It was a dead Saturday afternoon and most of their employees were in a daze. They left the door wide open due to the immense heat. An older gentleman sat reading a paper enjoying a coca cola. They made the egg rolls fresh and it took about ten minutes before I was back on the road walking back to the beach. I stopped and sat on a park bench under the trees. It took some time to eat and enjoy one roll. The contents were still piping hot and I added a bit of sweet and sour sauce with every bite. It was delicious for what it was. When I got back to the beach my cousin inquired "forty minutes to feed a meter?" I revealed an egg roll with sauce. Once he finished, "good thinking"

Had some sweet and sour chicken for about 5 bucks. Went pretty late at night so couldn't get the lunch specials but overall pretty god. The people were nice and the food was warm and average. oh and free tea!

If I could rate -0- stars, I would. I placed an order for food at 5:30 pm and was told by GrubHub it would be one hour and then 1.5 hours by email. After over 2 hours I placed a call to the restaurant. They said my order hadn't gone out yet but it would soon. An hour later I called the restaurant and was told "the driver was right around the corner and would be there soon." I gave them twenty minutes, and, fed up, called GrubHub. GrubHub contacted them, and they told GrubHub I'd have my order in a half hour... It never came. Almost an hour later, I called back to the restaurant and was told the same thing that the driver was nearby and would be here in 15 minutes. After waiting a half hour more, and at this point over 4 hours, I called GrubHub to cancel the order and ask for a refund, which GrubHub gladly did and gave me credits to my GrubHub account. I understand if a restaurant is busy, but it should not take under any circumstances over 4 hours to deliver food (and if I hadn't cancelled my order, would it have been over 5?). Moreover, I was never called by the restaurant or contacted by them and they consistently blew me off. I have ordered from Peking before without incident, but I for sure will not order from them again.

What are people talking about?! I checked this place out because it is around the corner. Great food, fast delivery, good prices, and varied menu!! I was sick so I was craving soup. The egg drop/wonton combo soup was delicious and I had never had a mixed soup like this. Like others said, the hot and sour soup was good too. I got general tso's chicken for tomorrow when I feel better. I tasted it and it was great also. The chicken was tender and the sauce was tasty. Also, contrary to a previous review there are multiple steamed vegetable dishes with your choice of protein add-ons. The steamed veggies were not really special but definitely healthy. The rice is the sticky white rice which is my favorite and it was cooked to perfection. I also got 4 fortune cookies to myself so I guess I ordered enough food for 4 people haha! All of that with delivery came out to $25 with tip and delivery so i feel like it was very affordable. You can check out grubhub to order. Amending my review because i have ordered several times and the food has been good. However, one time i waited 2 hours for my food and no one bothered to call..

In my 57 years on this planet, this was the worst I ever ate, and I've had Chinese all over this country, both take out and world-class. Most places are your average take-out, but they must have had a busboy cooking that day at Peking. First the egg roll. I couldn't identify what it was, but there was something sweet in it. It tasted funny--not like most take-out egg rolls taste. Then there was fried rice. It was totally tasteless. Most Chinese places overseason and add MSG, but this had NOTHING! I added some soy sauce, but I didn't want to use too much, otherwise it would just taste like soy sauce. Then I had the seafood combo at $15.95. I ordered it because the combination of seafood and Chinese veggies sounded good. BLEAH!!!!!! The fake crabmeat wasn't the better stuff that most places use. They used some kind of chunk style that didn't look appealing, and worse yet, it was also disgusting. I felt like I was biting into a big chunk of paste. (Kind of like a giant flour lump in homemade gravy.) There were also no Chinese veggies as described in the menu. Instead there was a lot of broccoli and a whole mess of green pepper. My husband said his orange chicken wasn't that great either. All of this after a very long wait (we should have gotten carry-out instead of delivery.) This meal was not only disappointing, but flat out disgusting. We just moved here and this place was recommended by a neighbor in our condo building, so I pretty much expected your typical Chinese take-out---nothing to write home about, but a decent, satisfying meal. Peking was off the radar, so we will look for another place to satisfy our craving without having to venture to Chinatown.

This seems to be your typical hole-in-the-wall Chinese food restaurant. You know what to expect and you know how it should taste. I've had bad luck here with the quality of chicken where things look uncooked and have large bits of fat attached. I order from here every few months, thinking it will be better but I have yet to learn my lesson. It is never better, it is always the same...

Our nearby highrise orders nightly from this place, the doorpeople know the delivery folks by face. We have been eating from this restaurant since it opened. Without a doubt this is the best "old school," which is appropriate for "Old Town" I suppose, Chinese restaurant in Chicago bar none. Portions are huge, ingredients are uber fresh, and they stand behind their product - we once ordered vegetarian egg rolls, received what my girlfriend claimed was meaty egg rolls, and PCF sent over replacement egg rolls promptly without question. A favorite.

I have lived in this city for 7 years now, and after discovering Peking about 4 years ago I haven't gotten Chinese food anywhere else since. Their dumplings are DOPE (the dipping sauce is what really makes it). I love their vegetable egg rolls, amazing Wonton Soup and General Tso's Chicken. Oh and I crave their Lo Mein on a daily basis. Also, their delivery guy Ko is super friendly!

First time in the area, thought I will try it. I order shrimp with lobster combination platter. The lady ask me white or brown. I never heard like that before. I told her white. I proceed to sit as I informed that I was planning to eat in. Got the food and to my surprised looks different. Green been raw in it. Who does that? The dish is okay. Not the best. I wouldn't recommend to anyone to fine there.

I think the average rating is justified; but there are a few jewels on the menu worth trying - Singapore Mai Fun, Broccoli Shrimp, and Sesame Chicken. Delivery is cheap and quick - on average. I have dined in, but it's not up my alley. Others in my family like doing lunch there.

I ordered online for delivery. Delivery was very fast - I think less than 30 minutes. Prices were typical, though with a delivery charge and tip, it was $28 for basically 1 entree and 1 appetizer, which was steep. The kuoh tay or potstickers were fine - not amazing, but decent. However, I ordered one of my favorite dishes, which also happens to be a supposed specialty of the house, sesame chicken. Not good. Not like food poisoning awful or anything, just very not good. This is supposed to be a spicy dish; this had none. It was mildly sweet, with tons of gloppy sauce (I would guess gluten is used to thicken). The rice was also very wet and distracting. I wouldn't order from here again, just because the risk based on this dish is too expensive.

I'm pretty picky about my Chinese food, but this place nailed it! For my first visit, I ordered the shrimp lo-mein and egg-rolls; I couldn't be more pleased with everything. The ingredients were fresh and seasoned well. The cooking time was fast, which I appreciated on my lunch break! I will definitely be returning to Peking as the service was very friendly and efficient.

The only two dishes I eat here are the veggie lo mein and the crag Rangoon so I can't really vouch for anything else...BUT that said, this is by far the BEST lo mein and Rangoon I've had in the city of Chicago. The woman who works the counter is awesome and remembered my order after only going twice. Definitely my favorite Chinese place around.

We weren't sure where to order take out from in the area until our door man recommended Peking. We checked out their website, which was easy to use and they even have online ordering. We were skeptical at first because we saw several negative reviews on here, but we gave it a shot and were very pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Orange Beef and Sesame Chicken, which come with white rice, and also ordered two Pork Egg Rolls. The prices were reasonable, the delivery was very quick and the food was hot when we received it. Everything was delicious and the portions were a good size. You could taste that it was freshly made, which is a big deal to me. We will certainly add Peking to our list of regular restaurants to order from. Using the coupons that come with the order, we're looking forward to trying more dishes they have to offer.

I have ordered take out from here several times and stopped by to pick up to go food a few times as well. It's pretty typical, reasonably priced chinese food. I have always been happy with how it tastes, timeliness, and size of the portions. Overall, no complaints.

Seriously awful. Dumplings were ok - probably 2 stars. Then the crab rangoon. I was on my 2nd one and bit into a hair. Dark, curly, rough....leave it up to the imagination. Even my fiance couldn't finish his food - and he'll eat anything.

I got carryout yesterday and I ordered the General Tso Chicken Combo with Fried Rice and an egg roll for $8.50. I thought the portion was a good size for the price, but I think it was lacking a little flavor. I asked for it spicy and actually had to put some Tabasco in it for more spice. Overall, not a bad value, but won't be returning anytime soon.

Tonight I was craving greasy Chinese food. since I've had a long week I decided, dammit I deserve it! I have not really ordered Chinese food too much since moving to Chicago so I picked Peking since it's close to where I live and didn't look like an expensive sit down Chinese place since that's not what I wanted I just wanted to good unhealthy take out & that's exactly what I got! I ordered off of grub hub and had a 10% discount so my partner and I got dumplings, chicken lo mein, general tso chicken and chicken fried rice. We ordered at 6pm and had our food in about 30 minutes which is unheard of for delivery in the city on a Friday! I opened up those little cartons and could already tell this was going to be a hit! Oh boy was this food perfection for what I was craving! The lo mein was the thin noodles and had plenty of veggies and chicken! The dumplings were okay not my favorite and the general Taos was a little too fried but the sauce tasted great. My partner liked his fried rice but I'm not a fan of that dish so I had a bite it was okay. This place is perfect for when you're craving that deliciously bad for you Chinese food! I will be getting delivery again in the future!

If you're like me, you find it very difficult to find a really good Chinese restaurant. They're in existence, but just few & far between. When you find one, you stick to it. Don't be fooled by the look of the place, because this food is good! I would never recommend eating in this place, but a must try for take out. They're beef is delicious, & their chicken fried rice is amazing. My test for good fried rice, is what it looks like the next day. This place definitely passes the test. Their lunch specials are plentiful and inexpensive. If you like it spicy but tasty too, make sure to ask them to make you're dish spicy...you won't regret it.

After the Women's Book Club at Moody Church last Sunday, several of us who just met decided to go out for lunch. On our way to Top Grill, which one of the ladies suggested, Pecking Chinese Food was in our sites and we seemed to be drawn there instead. I really didn't feel like Chinese Food, and I'm especially weary about Chinese Fast Food places. Four Stars for: Our impromtu lunch gathering turned out to be a blessed, devine appointment of encouragement when we met one other sister having lunch there. Not to mention I found the BEST Crispy Sesame Chicken I ever had here! My first mouthful was a pleasant surprise. I love how their lunch specials are EVERYDAY 10-3pm, and not limited to duirng the week like most places. Lunch specials includes fried rice and a soda. L23 Crispy Sesame Chicken was pefectly crisp and a sweet flavor that was just right, all for $6. I look forward to trying other dishes there in the future but I'm thinking I'm going to have to keep getting the Crispy Sesame Chicken. I'm glad the Spirit drew us there otherwise I'd have never set foot in this fast food place!

This place is staffed by people who think a person can not tell the difference between cabbage and white onions! As I asked for NO ONIONS and STILL had onions in my food. I DO NOT suggest this restaurant to ANYBODY!

My complaint is not an indictment of their food, but rather the terrible service. I ordered dinner through my Seamless app, in which I'd filtered my location and all restaurants that were available for delivery. After an hour had passed, I called the restaurant, asking when I might expect the meal (fully aware that +/- 10 min. from the estimated delivery time is the norm on a Saturday night), and the woman on the phone informed me that the driver was on his way. Forty minutes later (making the total wait now 1:40), the delivery person finally arrived and, rather than attempting to explain such a long wait, I was berated by the man, who threw the food in my arms, and exclaimed the restaurant was "too far" to deliver to my home. Not only was this an incredibly rude way to deal with a hungry customer, who has been forced to wait almost 2 hours for food, but something that, had it been a problem, could have been addressed immediately after my ordering. Moreover, upon searching the location (as provided by Seamless) of the restaurant, I saw it is literally 3.3 miles down one avenue from my apartment (not the "15 miles" the delivery person yelled to me at my doorstep). Despite the fallacy behind the exaggerated delivery distance, screaming at a customer is neither appropriate nor effective. I will never again order delivery from this restaurant, and I encourage others caution in doing so.

While delivery was fast, the food was the absolute worst I've ever had! The Shrimp Fried Rice had no seasoning with pieces of raw celery and onion, and the Shrimp Toast was soggy, greasy and tasteless! First and last time I will patronize business at this restaurant!

I really really like this place and I wish I didn't because I truly shouldn't be eating takeout chinese food regularly. It is your typical takeout Chinese, but they do have options for steamed protein & veggies (I've never tried). The egg drop soup is my favorite. My only negative is that every time I ask for extra soy sauce and I rarely get it. Two packets isn't enough for a 2-person meal plus leftovers!

I try twisted in like 6 years Food is bland no flavor at all I order crab Rangoon and sm vegetable fried rice heard they eat dog meat rat or cat I Don't get a risk So I Took My Food To THE Beach I Was Ready To Eat But Hooo hooooo no utensils No spoon No fork No napkins No soy sauce grrrttttt Never come back again The lady that took my order look upset Lady that's way your place is empty

The service is so awful here, they are rude and when you try to make up your mind looking at the menu they look at you like ugh. I was the only one in the restaurant, they just rung me up in a hurry I didn't want to ask for a drink. Shrimp in Lobster sauce no flavor very watery and the Half cooked rice, definitely a 1 star place if that for customer service and blan food.

  • Leah M.

Delivery is so fast even though I order all white meat chicken and they have to make it fresh. I think the veggie fried rice is bomb and honestly haven't had anything from here that I don't like. It isn't anything fancy but it is my go to for take out!

Best Chinese Food In Chicago! Hands down - some of the best Chinese food you will ever eat! The taste is fresh, the meats are tender, and it's made right before your very eyes! I've eaten here for several year and remain impressed by Peking Chinese Food's consistency of quality, preparation, and overall deliciousness. There's nothing here in terms of atmosphere, so don't plan on dining in unless you're very hungry, and are okay with glaring fluorescent lighting. It's only a storefront housing a big open kitchen, a counter, and a small dine-in area. Best to order your meal for take out, or have it delivered.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
