The only positive was the quick delivery. Spaghetti was marginal. Garlic bread, smallest portion ever. Also where's the garlic on the bread. Overwhelmed but thick tasteless cheese. Salad was sent with no dressing! Did I actually have to pay another .75 for dressing on a 6 buck salad? No butter with 2 tiny pieces of bread, no Parmesan for pasta. Strawberry cheesecake with no strawberries , small slice, and a drizzle of sauce. Don't do delivery from here, hope in restaurant experience is better.

I ordered the caprese panini for lunch carry out today. Isnt a panini supposed to be a warm sandwich? This came cold. Bread seemed like it had been grilled earlier in the day, and then the mozzerella, basil, tomato and mayo were added when I was there. Overall flavor was actually really good but I wanted a warm sandwich.

This place is terrific! The people are nice, the food is great, and the prices are reasonable. The Spaghetti all Polpette is great and they are serious when it says "giant meatballs". They taste great too. Other reviews mention the FarFalle Aurora being good; they're right. It's excellent and also excellent reheated the next day. It bums me out that this place is usually pretty empty, because my wife and I like it a lot and hope they stick around. Please go here for yourself and for us! :)

Skip Pasta Al Gusto for the $6 LUNCH special or.... for that matter altogether!! 1. First red flag, it's empty. Both times I went there hardly anyone was in the entire restaurant, let alone getting a carryout. Yesterday, I went there around 3:30PM and NO ONE and I mean NO ONE was there at all besides me. 2. When I ordered off the $6 LUNCH menu I chose the Cesar salad, the pasta putanesca and a soft drink. However, when it was rung it up the cashier was going to charge me $13, it was only when I alerted him about the special that he mentioned the salad was also considered an entree. This is not clearly marked on the menu, it's kind of underhanded if you ask me. Apparently the special includes only one entree and one drink, I was told (afterwards) the salad was big. 3. Uninspired pasta (not homemade, or anything special) came with what I would call a unique marinara reduction sauce. Translation: it had been sitting around in a pot all day and was slowly evaporating because they just heat it up as people come in. Not only was it stale tasting, but all the flavor had been cooked out of it! 4. Another thing that bugged me about this place, they have this stupid rule, under NO circumstances can you eat in if you order there $6 lunch special. Regardless if anyone is there or not...and I guess that goes for the outside seating too. And that's FINAL!!!! 5. Last but not least, they're really cheap with their ingredients. The unimaginative marinara sauce came with those itty bitty olives, no basil that I could discern and to top it off, no butter packets for the bread, or parmesan cheese with the pasta. Conclusion: Mark my words, Al Gusto will eventually CLOSE its doors, it's only a matter of time.

The place doesn't have that much to it but the service is great and the food is really good. Too many snobs in my neighborhood as this place is a great place for a quick sandwich.

while the décor may be somewhat lacking - and the service isn't the best - for the price and the food you really can't complain. It's BYOB and they don't charge a corking fee! So grab your girls, your wine and go enjoy a cheap night with good food and great company.

Two stars only because there is no doubt in my mind that I spent later that night doubled over with the trotskies and shooting gastrointestinal fireworks out both ends concurrently due to the ample spinach in my gorgonzola pasta I believe was rampant bacterial. I hadn't eaten anything else that day. I arrived in a huff, after cycling to the Music Box, and was fed in less than ten minutes with polite and accommodative service. The dish tasted really good and I watched it being made while sitting at the bar -- all of the ingredients appeared fresh as possible. It was Topo Gigio at a mere 50-75% of the price. The people here were really attentive and nice. Three hours later, the bad stuff expelled itself with clues that it was the spinach. I actually plan to revisit because I want this place to succeed, however, if I get waylaid again I will find a way to give this place a negative star. Unpleasant stuff does happen and if it goes well then I am willing to bump my rating upwards.

Had another great inexpensive friendly experience tonight. Pasta choices are ALL prepared with skill and experience. So reasonably priced and soon good. Could eat here every night. I personally love the vegetable salad and linguini fruti d mare.

This new place just opened up next to the music box, (or maybe not i hadnt been over there in almost a year) but it's high quality pasta at very reasonable prices, i got the beef tortellini with bolognese sauce, which was very good and a nice portion and 3 massive meatballs, a lot of other pasta dishes looked good as well that i want to try, they pretty much just have pasta and paninis and salads, so dont expect a full italian spread but what they have is good, and fast service as well

I have never been in there but have ordered food for delivery. The taste of the dishes is great but the size seems to be shrinking each time I order it and it's just not worth the money. I ordered the Pasta Verdure for the hubby and it seems to be half a normal entree size. I had to steam some broccoli for him as a side to make it a full entree. My fav Farfelle Aurora has shrunk too. I order the vegetarian version but they refuse to add extra vegetables or pasta in place of the chicken I ask them to omit. The result is a dish I wish I could use my miracle grow on. I don't think I will be ordering from them again.

Amazingly fast delivery and equally amazing fresh food. Gnocchi was tremendous and the spinach salad was equally delicious. We even made customizations and everything was delivered in less than 20 minutes to perfection.

I am giving 5 stars due to the proximity to my own home. I may have had slightly better meal or more ambience in other establishments but I've never had a bad meal at Pasta AL Gusto. Take a chance!

I ordered the chicken saltimbocca, which was so overwhelmingly salty that I couldn't eat it, and I have a very salty palate so that's saying a lot. My friend got the gnocchi with alfredo, he said it was fine but also extremely salty. Server forgot our appetizer. Nothing special about this place, won't be going back.

As mentioned before from another reviewer, Pasta was our go to spot last night after finding Tango Sur waiting time was over an hour and half, for just 2. We wouldn't have minded the wait I read enough about Saturday night wait times to expect it but we were already late for a show at the Abbey. Anyway, this is a great place. It's cozy, it's small but roomy, and it has a simple appetizer, salad and pasta menu. Let me start by saying we had beer and needed a 2nd byob place and I yelped and found this was 2 doors down and ice bucket ready! My friend had the apparently famous Farfalle Aurora and I grabbed the Rostini. We had both had late lunches he had ravioli and I ate a full beef sandwhich about 2 hours prior and let me tell you that this did not stop us from emptying both our plates. The pasta is so fresh and the sauce is just like I've never tasted before. Not too salty, not dry just right with a hint of butter but not glazed. We only had one Guinness each because we couldn't stop eating and half of our conversation was about just how good the food was. This is snob town and snobs are a plenty, but the staff was very chill and very polite. This is a good family spot, late lunch or even can serve as a good early dinner date. 2 things. 1. We noticed the lights went dim when we started to leave which means a more intimate setting was abound 2. No music, which is a breath of fresh air from most spots.

Had dinner with my friends and their kids recently. We were able to sit outside on the patio area which was nice since it was a beautiful summer evening. We ordered some bruschetta and Caesar salad to start. Both were tasty. We ordered three main course dishes: gnocchi with shrimp, penne al Bolognese with meatballs, and I ordered the farfalle aurora. All three of us really enjoyed our dishes. I highly recommend my FarFalle Aurora. Our waiter was friendly and service was good. As usual it seemed like this restaurant like so many others here in Chicago was understaffed but that maybe just me not used to how things are done in a city this size. Definitely worth checking out and I would not have any problems going back again.

I've only actually ordered from here for grubhub but the food is great Italian ate a great price. I recently had the meat tortellini and it was perfect! I hope to actually dine in soon!

Horrendous customer service. Received the wrong order and they wouldn't send me the correct order and refund my meal. So now I have some weird smelling seafood pasta that I can't eat. Unbelievable. I will never order this again.

You'd completely miss this place unless you lived in the area, so that's why I had to write and share! Their pasta is so so good. I've tried several different kinds, all delish, but the best is definitely the Pasta Al Gusto (named after the place). They have an amazing lunch takeout deal-- $6 for a pasta (regular-sized, I might add) and drink! I believe they are BYOB, and also have wifi in case you want to have a working lunch or dinner.

Pasta Al Gusto is the best delivery Italian food that we've experienced in the area- and we have tried a bunch of joints. Excellent!

I ordered a meal with two entrees and an appetizer, and was told it it would delivered in 60-75 minutes. After 90 minutes, I called and was told that they could not get a hold of the delivery driver. At this point the manager called me back and very aggressively told me she would send me a second order, with an additional cheesecake, and that I would also get my first order. I tried a several times to interrupt her to tell her I did not want the food anymore as it was going on 10pm at this point, but I figured getting two meals for the price of one was a sufficient deal. I never got the second order. I called to complain two days later and spoke to the same woman who said she made up for it by throwing in an additional salad (which she did do). I did not, however, want a salad. Nor was a salad discussed. The only thing discussed was cheesecake and the fact that we would still get the first order. She kept saying there was "nothing more [she could] do". She did offer me 50% off another order -- but only if I ordered it right now. Had I known this was the offer, I would have declined in the first place. I have lived in Chicago for 8 years, and this is the single worst customer service I have ever experienced. I will not order from this place again.

First thing to note is that Yelp.com has the address wrong. I informed the hostess that confirmed my online order of this error and she stated she'd let them know, but I just want to do my part and ensure others know that the location is incorrect. Second thing, I'd just pick up the food yourself as the delivery service is sub par and the other reviews weren't joking. Believe them. Third thing is the sandwich I ordered was priced fairly and tasted fine. Add a bit more meat and I'll be 100% happy. Just my stomach speaking. Good Luck to Pasta Al Gusto - I hope they listen to the customers and make some changes. Cheers.

Unfortunately the pasta was the most basic i have had in the city. The side of bread was stale. The pastas were very unorginial and they were pretty tasteless. I wouldn't recommend.

My wife and I went with another couple to a restaurant a couple doors down. However, the wait time their was excessively long, so we left in search of somewhere else to eat. We walked by Pasta Al Gusto, and thought we'd take a chance. It was BYOB, and we were armed with 3 wine bottles and plenty of hunger. We were greeted warmly and were given a nice table, water and menus. We started off with Tuffo Saporito, an appetizer with melted goat cheese, marinara sauce and french bread. It was hot and delicious. My wife and I split a Caesar salad, which was fresh and crisp. For an entree, I had the Lobster Macaroni al Formaggio. Basically, it's mac and cheese with lobster for $11.75. Let me put this into perspective. You can buy a Burger King Whopper deal for about $8. For $3 more you can get this amazing, comforting dish. My wife had Pesce Al Limon, Tilapia over spaghetti, broccoli, and a lemon butter sauce. Her portion was huge like mine, and just as tasty. We had a great time, and the food was very reasonably priced. In fact, it was downright cheap. This restaurant is a great value, provides excellent food with wonderful service.

There are not enough great things to say about Pasta Al Gusto. I hadn't been in since they moved to Southport but decided to go last night and it's safe to say that the food is still as amazing as, if not better than, before! The Farfalle Aurora is absolutely incredible, even reheated the next day. The amount of food you get (and the quality) is amazing for the low price. Well done!

We've had a couple of takeaways since our first visit. Still top notch food! The chicken dishes are a little too salty for me, but I use very little salt when cooking.

  • Steven L.

Let's start with what I hated: dessert. Seriously! It ruined the meal it was so bad. I'm talking about pana cotta with a consistency of rubber. Cheesecake without flavor that is soaked in flourescent red artificial strawberry sauce. Chicken fettuccine Alfredo was fatty and delicious, but a little too salty for my taste. Delivery driver did not follow the instructions to deliver to the back alley, and was surly when I told him to come around back.

I had lunch there yesterday. One of the best bowls of pasta in the city and very affordable. Quality ingredients and prepared when you order it.

Food fantastic as always. Had an issue with the online ordering process but that was quickly resolved after calling 247waiter info found here: 247waiter.com . Delivery was very quick and food still hot.

Haven't had a bad meal yet! They're quick, cheap, and the food is delicious. The Bolognese is awesome, real classic comfort Italian. Honestly, the only thing I wish they had, are just plain ol breadsticks to dip their awesome sauces with!

  • Natalie F.

I got their lunch special which isn't bad it just surprised me that you can't eat in if you want the special! The service was blah. They were courteous but you can tell it was forced. The sandwich itself isn't bad but it was soggy because I got it to (I had to in order to get the lunch special). I think they need to work on some aspects of their restaurant but it has potential.

I didn't read the reviews before I ordered (via Seamless) and I should have. My order came more or less within the promised time period, unlike others', but the food tasted it was from a buffet at a bad wedding. The pasta *and* the meatballs were both overcooked and yet cold, and everything had a sort of prepared taste, like nothing had been made from scratch. The salad was okay, except for the salad dressing (which tasted corn syrupy). If I wanted to be served this kind of food, I'd have gone to Olive Garden. Disappointing.

This place has really good food (farfalle aurora is my favorite); however, their delivery is NEVER on time. The past 2 times I've ordered from there they were 30-40 minutes late, when their delivery estimate was already an hour. Food is good, not good enough to wait 90+ minutes.

Pasta Al Gusto, please feed me every day. I tried your Italiano Panino sandwich today because I was in the mood for salami. It was my first time trying your place, and I fell in love. I used Groupon, and there was no minimum and the food came to my door in 15-20 minutes! Amazing!! The delivery man was nice and the panino was SO GOOD. My family owns two Italian restaurants and I've been to Italy... the sandwiches in Italy don't have condiments on them, and mine had a little too much mayo oozing out of it (hey that's okay! Just took some off, no big deal), but I have no complaints. My order was cheap and I plan to order again and again. I can't wait to try more and to come into your store. Grazie tanto!

Kind of surprised by the low ratings. This has been my go-to delivery place for gnocchi (the gorgonzola sauce is amazing) and tiramisu for at least a year now. It's a small order, but the delivery has always been on time and correct. Great for the price. No complaints.

I just had a really terrible experience with this restaurant. I'd been working out of town for a while, and didn't know that they moved. Their website still has the wrong address, so when I called in my order, I had no idea that they'd moved. I walked over to where I thought they were to find that the building has been torn down. So, I called to ask them if they moved. I couldn't get to their new location during the time I had scheduled for lunch. I asked them to cancel my order, since their website had been wrong, and they told me they couldn't because the food had already been made. Then they said that they could convert my order to a delivery order, but I'd have to pay the driver $3 cash when he got there for a delivery fee. I told them that I didn't have any cash and asked if they could please just charge the fee to my credit card they have on file ... which of course they can't because of the credit card minimum. After 10 minutes of talking to a completely incompetent employee who offered no solutions for this problem, we settled on them refunding my credit card and me paying for my whole meal in cash. Forty minutes later, as I was eating the mediocre pasta, they called to ask me for my credit card information to refund my money. I told them I couldn't remember which of my credit cards I had used, and the girl said "Wait, why do you have two credit cards?" in a tone so rude, I was really taken aback. I asked if they could just tell me the last 4 numbers of the card I'd used, and she said they didn't have that information. She offered me a store credit, but I don't plan on giving them my business again, so I ended the call with no resolution. I asked to talk to a manager at two separate points and was told "he might be in later today." All in all, the food is okay, but the service is astonishingly bad. I'd stay away.

Great little place, simple & casual with good food without the high prices !!!! Byob too. Food was delicious, home cooked & large portion sizes. Also cannot beat the prices!!!!! Check this place out, you won't be disappointed.

Love, love, love this restaurant!!! I have eaten here at least a dozen times since it open, and I've always had a great experience! The vodka sauce is amazing and the tiramisu is to die for! Service is solid and it's BYOB. Highly recommend!!

We used to order from Pasta Al Gusto when they were on Belmont and had a good experience. However, we ordered from them the other night and it was horrible. They said deliverywas 45 minutes and it ended up being 90 minutes. The food arrived cold and just did not taste good. We will skip this place in the future.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
