Only those who had never had real quality sushi before would give this place more than 3 stars. Well, you get what you paid for.

Smoothies are awesome. I had the watermelon with coconut & fresh fruit smoothie. Not too expensive @ $4.97

Went back again today. Ordered the "my best friend" roll. It was awesome. Totally perfect! Only thing was that I was in a rush and my food was ready but I had to wait for one of the cashiers to notice. Not a big deal I was just starving so I'm sure I waited maybe a minute or 2 but in my mind it felt like an eternity. Lol

This place looks and feels like a fast food joint with the pricing of a regular sushi restaurant. You don't have waiters, the seating is dingy and uncomfortable and the cashiers are not helpful. Each customer is handed two packs of soy sauce and chop sticks with their orders. If you try to get an extra pack you get this look like woooooah there this stuff isn't free for us to just give away! :) ha ha ha If you are NOT grabbing sushi to go please avoid this place, because it's not the type of place you are going to find an above average dining experience. About the food: It was good. We shared several rolls and every bite was delicious.

You get what you pay for. With that being said, this place is my "budget sushi" place. Sure the rolls are cheap, but customer service and quality here is also discounted. The girls taking your order look like they hate life. It doesn't hurt to crack a smile or at least use a tone that sounds like you're remotely happy. They're not rude, but they do seem miserable. I knew I was taking a gamble with the fish, and I lost the last time I ordered from here. My spicy tuna roll had a weird stench right when I opened the box. I ate one piece and couldn't finish the rest. The vegetarian rolls are safe though. Some rolls are pre-made so be careful with that.

Albeit a good "cheap" sushi eat in the Loop area (and for the prices, fresh enough), the staff there are among the rudest I have encountered so far (even for primarily Asian/Chinese run establishments). The first few times I had been there, the cashier simply didn't smile and was rude with the order taking (which is fine, whatever). Usually I order the sushi to-go because by the time they make it, I don't have time to sit down and either it there. However, one time they were faster than usual and I decided to sit down and take my time (since I was early). Little did I know, the next time I went and said I wanted my sushi to-go, I was REFUSED! The lady behind the counter said because I "always" (which was an exaggeration it was just once) took it to-go but then ate it there, I wasn't allowed to take it to-go unless I made sure I didn't eat it in the establishment. What kind of requirement is that?? I told her "id actually get it to go if it wasn't done in 5-10 minutes" to which she rolled her eyes and insulted me in Cantonese (which I unfortunately for her, understood). TLDR; the service is god awful. Be prepared to get cheap (but not even super fresh) sushi with eyes glaring at the back of your neck.

This is a good lunch spot for sushi. Everything was tasty and fresh. The prices are fair given the location and quality. Seating can be a little tight but the park is right across the street.

Osaka was quick and really great sushi for the price. I would definitely order from them again next time I want delivery to my hotel when I am in Chicago.

Usually places near the central part of the city are meant for tourists and therefore, overpriced and not worth your money. Or so I thought. Osaka is a quaint little restaurant in the busy center of Chicago. There is rarely a wait because it is an express sushi place. (Another surprise, breaks negative stigma of express sushi restaurants.) of course, it is no "unforgettable" experience, but the quality is well worth the price. I had the salmon don and strawberry watermelon bubble tea. It totaled around $18, but there are other options for $10. The rolls range from $2,80-$10. There are vegetarian options and cooked options. The Salmon don came with eight fresh, meaty pieces of salmon sashimi. The bowl was $12, something I would probably get for $20-25 at a regular sushi restaurant. It also came with a pretty big bowl of miso with LOTS of tofu (heart heart thank you). The restaurant is very clean and the food was delicious and filling. Will be back for more. Nom Nom. Four stars because relative to other sit down restaurants, the food isn't specially creative. BUT for an express restaurant, it was definitely top notch and worth a try.

I've been here many more times since. I think they know who I am. They've been much nicer, the food has been faster, and even though I experienced a technical glitch with their website today, they were quick to call me and ask about the order and charge and quick to make sure the situation was handled. I still recommend pre-ordering--- that place is very busy and crowded inside, and there isnt much room to stand and wait for the order.

4.5 stars! I've been here over 10 times, Osaka Express is my favorite casual restaurant around. Sushi is always fresh and cheap; although nothing is mind-blowing, the special rolls are creative and preparation has always been consistent. Having tried almost the entire special rolls menu, the Fish Lovers and Firework rolls are my favorite, followed closely by the Fantastic and Lets Roll. Whether it's a blistering summer day or the middle of a dreary, freezing February, I'll always get a fresh fruit smoothie - best I've had in Chicago. Get the mango kiwi or mango coconut and never look back.

    (4)
  • Jon L.

I ordered several sushi rolls from here during my stay in Chicago; all of them tasted pretty good and I have no complaints. I recommend any of their fresh fruit smoothies, especially ones with kiwi as one of the flavors. The consistency of the smoothie is excellent, the tapioca pearls are good, and the smoothie itself is very refreshing.

  • Carl P.

Good. Fast. Inexpensive. In the loop there's really nothing better than this place where I can get a light dinner rather than heavy food in the rest of the area. Come in and get friendly service and a smoothie ta'boot!

  • Keishana M.

This is my favorite place to get Sushi, I frequent Osaka's quite often and I highly recommend the Spicy salmon rolls. I am very happy to say, the sushi is always, always very fresh! If, the quality of the sushi, smoothies or cleanliness were the only deciding factors, I would have rated a 5. But, because the workers faces have changed several times and with that change, the pleasant customer service has gradually decreased. The service isn't alarmingly bad, it could just be better.

  • Shawn R.

Excellent food and smoothies. I guess I didn't articulate enough when I said lychee smoothly and they gave me a peach and that's what the receipt said. But hey if I was working in Japan is want some leeway too. Surprisingly, the prices were reasonable considering how outrageously priced beers are in this area. I would like to say I'll be back but there are just too many great restaurants in the area.

  • Tiffany S.

Oh, I foresee many trips to Osaka in my future. The prices are great, the location easy to get to and the service is efficient and quick (in a nice way). The fish is great quality and the prices are excellent. I always look longingly at combinations in other restaurants and think "I want all of those things, but I can't eat 3 or 4 rolls by myself...". Osaka solves this issue by offering combinations that have 3-5 pieces of various rolls. Yay, I can still have diversity even when dinning alone! The also have a spicy seafood miso for under $4 which is a steal. It has pretty sizable chunks of a variety of seafood in sirachi-miso broth.

Excellent! Nice little casual restaurant right next to the Art Institute and Millennium Park. Don't expect paying anything more than $15 here -- even if you get sushi and a smoothie. Pineapple Honeydew Smoothie with Tapioca: 4/5 -- Very, very solid smoothie with less than lackluster tapioca. The tapioca was unfortunately delated and less chewy than I expected. Nevertheless, the smoothie itself was fantastic. Avocado Strawberry Smoothie: 4.5/5 -- Amazing! Avocados go so well in smoothies. Definitely recommended! Firework: 4.5/5 -- Very creatively made. Would have preferred the tempura to have a larger presence in the roll. Nevertheless, full of flavor! Fish Lover's Roll: 4/5 -- Yellow tail, fresh salmon, spicy tuna... What else do you even need?! Loved it. Fantastic Roll: 4.5/5 -- At this point, you have to realize that you cannot go wrong in ordering at this place. Try anything and you'll be pleased! There were so many more rolls that I wanted to try (getting the Fantastic Roll next time around), so I'll definitely be back for the rolls!

The kids have taken over the kitchen, and no hot surfaces to hurt anyone. The kids are alright. I stop by here every once in a while for a snack, and it hits the spot without hitting the wallet too hard. It's not the best sushi in town, but it's still fast, tasty and inexpensive. Counter service, not a lot of places to sit and not comfortable-enough to linger--a few high-top tables and counters along the windows--but plenty serviceable for a snack. I like the youthful energy. For some reason I haven't tried a bubble tea yet, but it's on my list.

  • Liezl A.

Sushi is fresh for the price you pay. My bf and I always get the platter and split it between eachother whenever we have the chance to come here and were never disappointed yet. First went to the one at UIC but I think this it's their only location now. And dare I say the smoothies are better here than a popular contender in Chinatown!

  • Ricky B.

I ordered a simple Rainbow Roll and I gotta say, I will definitely come back for more. The cuts of salmon, tuna, etc looked prime and tasted delicious. With some ginger on top and dipped in soy sauce, a delicious treat indeed. The strawberry smoothie I ordered tastes as if I put my own strawberries in a blender and did it myself, in other words, amazing. A little on the $$ side but for $14, it was worth it.

I lived in Chicago for three years and I can't even count how many of Osaka's delicious smoothies I've had. It was my breakfast quite often. Now that I live in California this is one of the places I have to go when I'm visiting Chicago. Sausage pizza at Lou Malnati's and a strawberry peach smoothie from Osaka!

  • Stephanie L.

Well, I used to love this place...but we just ordered take out and it was disgusting. Unagi pieces were so disgusting. They still had the gross slimy skin on them. Very fishy tasting. Also, they were all over everything. Also, the other rolls that we ordered were meh at best. Did not taste as fresh as I had remembered. It was fast but this will be the last time we order from here...very disappointed

Aweful service. Ordered a delivery, it came AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER. The delivery guy Barry called me three times saying to come to his car, i'm in an office, which is why I ordered delivery! I told him no, to come into the office and he gave me hella attitude. If that not bad enough, i ordered a best friends roll, they gave me a fantastic roll with the cream cheese that I find disgusting! Called back for a refund, they said they would give it to me when they picked up the roll...i'll be off work by then... Aweful. Do NOT order

THIS PLACE MAKES MY TOES CURL --- I absolutely love their coconut pineapple smoothies - nothing added......this place would be a serious temptation if I lived in Chicago..... Almost had a panic attack trying to find it and forgetting it was down further on Michigan.....1 block before the Congress.... Tried the Mango, but it was a little to bland, probably would have been better with another fruit...hmmmmm something to put on my to do list!

Yay, I'm so happy that I now have options for sushi. I usually go to Tokyo Lunchbox but their sushi prices have made me very angry lately. Osaka is tiny, with some tables in the back of the restaurant. They have lunch specials all ready for pickup, but if you want something else, you order, pay, and wait. The sushi is great! They fish is soft and almost melts in your mouth. The lunch specials are cut small, but the regular hand rolls are large and plentiful. The prices are also very very reasonable. My tuna roll cost me $4.75 and the smoothie was $3.25. Did I mention that they have smoothies? Oh, I think I have a few times. Well, let me tell you again. They have smoothies. They come in huge, 24oz cups and are made with fruit (of your choice) ice, and lemon sauce (no idea what this lemon sauce is). My drink twas refreshing, tasted of pure strawberries and peaches (my fruit of choice) and complemented my sushi very well. They also offer delivery or you can call to place your order for pickup.

  • Rubia H.

Wow, I just the best smoothie ever. With tax it was $3.88, and the 'regular' is pretty large. I got mango and pineapple and it was...heavenly.

    (5)
  • Tracy K.

The smoothies? Delicious, lots to choose from, quickly made while you watch, and the tapioca was at the perfect consistency for quick consumption (i.e., not frozen). The eats? Avocado & shiitake maki were quite tasty, and the vegan roll is f'ng delicious! The service? I sat on hold for a good five minutes when trying to place my order.. but then again, I called during the lunch rush. At the counter, everything was efficient and pleasant, and I was not given stink eye when I promptly pocketed my change instead of tossing it in their tip jar. I'm not often in the loop in search of sushi or smoothies, but next time I am, I know where to go.

I discovered this place during the homeward portion of a particularly sweltery summer run and have been coming here weekly ever since for the bubble tea/smoothies. It's very hard to get bubble tea in this part of town and Osaka's is perhaps the best I've ever had. Not too sweet, you can totally taste the fruit (I always get watermelon), AND you can get it with tapioca. Amazing.

  • Holly H.

This is the only place I'll get sushi pre-made and in a box. When I was a student at Columbia, I hit up this place at least twice a week. They have the best fruit smoothies in the city for under four bucks (I'm a big fan of the mango-coconut), and you can get a fresh Philly roll and a spicy tuna roll (my go-to combo) for under ten dollars and be out the door within five. They've also recently expanded the seating area, so you can usually snag a seat at one of the high tables if you're lucky. It's quick, it's cheap (for sushi), and it's good. Enough said.

    (4)
  • Edwin Q.

Good Sushi for a reasonable price. Their Veggie sushi is pretty good and their seaweed salad is simply the best! Fast and attentive service makes it a good choice for lunch time here in the South Loop!

    (4)
  • Eric H.

I don't really eat sushi, so I have no comment on that part (coworkers like the sushi from here), however the smoothies are pretty good... if you're lucky. I've been here a few times for a smoothie and sometimes they're very good but about half the time it seems like the fruit tastes like it isn't quite ripe (a very bad thing with a lot of the fruits they put into the smoothies). Also, the staff have always been very crabby, never pleasant to order from. I would be tempted to give it 3 stars but when I'm feeling like a good smoothie I'd rather walk 4 blocks north to the Jamba Juice... they're nice people and the smoothies are consistent and tasty.

This is the type of place I am hesitant to write a review for because I dont want more people to start coming here for lunch. This place makes some great sushi and maki rolls, it blows Tokyo Lunch Box out of the water. They make the rolls fresh for the lunch hour. They have a pretty large menu. Their smoothies are very popular, my friends say they are great, I have never tried them. One downside is the lunch rush, which could make you wait 10 minutes for you to get your sushi. My favorite is the lunch special 'F' btw. Also, the chefs are sloooow. No matter how busy this place is, the chefs have no sense of urgency, they will just go about their business in their own little world. I recommend coming here either before noon or after 1pm.

  • Shayna N.

I'm totally a fan of this place. It's great for a quick bite on the go. I can't say much for the atmosphere but the sushi is great and the price is right. I don't remember specifics about the rolls, but the hamachi, sake and white tuna nigiri pieces have all been consistently high quality. If you're in the south loop area and looking for a quick healthy meal this is the place to be.

This place is on the corner right by my apt, very convenient! I really like the strawberry smoothies... I stop by here just for them. Im not a big fan of the tapioca balls but they have those too if you want to add them. I've only tried the spicy tuna roll and it was dec...

  • Julie B.

I love this place! I've only had delivery, which has always been on time and only $2.50 delivery charge, better than a lot of places. The sushi is always very fresh, they have a great variety, and I've never had anything bad. And the prices are very reasonable. The only complaint I have is that I wish they had a location in my neighborhood so I could order at home instead of just at work.

  • Esther A.

I used to work right across the street from Osaka Express and I miss it like crazy. For a quick, fresh box lunch, it's unbeatable. My favorite was a box with a tuna and avocado roll and a salmon and avocado roll. I also absolutely love their spicy octopus roll. Oh! And the seaweed salad! And the strawberry peach smoothies with tapioca, made fresh with lots and lots of fruit! Man, I really, really miss those smoothies. This place is perfect for take-out, but if you want to eat in, there is some seating (they've expanded from about eight seats to about twice that in the past year). You do have to brave the lite music, though.

  • Erica B.

this is my favorite sushi place to get lunch in the loop. its small, but they amount of veggie sushi is a-plenty and its freshly prepared. They have great lunch specials where i can get a variety of veggie sushi, instead of 12 pieces of the same kind, so i really like that. The prices are great too! for $8 i can get 10 pieces of veggie sushi and a cucumber salad. I try to get here whenever i get the opportunity to grab lunch!

  • Shuwen Y.

Eel rice bowl is very delicious and I like it a lot. Sushi is just sushi, not very outstanding, but since the price is not expensive, I can live with that. Will go next time.

Great sushi and dons and smoothies! My wife and I traveled to Chicago for several days. We had meals in this restaurant twice. The fish is very fresh. The rice is well cooked with the proper amount of sushi vinegar. Topped with different types of fresh fishes, the Osaka don tastes so good!! The smoothie is made of fresh fruits and tastes good as well. Great drink in hot summer!

  • Stephanie L.

I had lunch here today and could not believe it was my first visit despite the fact that I have worked down the street for one year. I had a lunch combination of 4 pieces of dragon roll and 4 of rainbow roll. The rolls tasted just like what this place claims they do: made fresh to order. I will definitely be back. My friend got eel & mango roll and spicy scallop roll, both of which she enjoyed. The scallop was in large pieces instead of chopped up small, which was good for the texture of the roll. Also, during the winter they also have udon and seafood miso soup.

  • Jason D.

Best authentic sushi ever. We ordered take out and were surprised at how authentic those sushi are. We are very picky eaters to be honest especially when it gets to Sushi. Will definitely visit again when we are in the area.

A really nice place. I really enjoy eating here. I had a California roll there and it was very good. It tasted very fresh which very important to me when I taste sushi. the waitress was very polite and helpful. I would recommend this sushi place.

  • K L.

I would love to give this place 5 stars, but I could only do 4. They had some of the best, fresh sushi that I have ever eaten. The best part...it's so cheap! The only thing I didn't like is that they do not have fountain drinks, only smoothies and water. Besides that, this place is delicious.

    (4)
  • Luc G.

Sushis are very good and freshly made. Edamame are served cold, which is a bit disappointing, but I had a very very good experience otherwise.

    (5)
  • Priscilla S.

Not so bad for an express sushi place but fish here is not so fresh sometimes. If you come in for lunch hours it'll be packed. Majority of their sushi are stored in the fridge so nothing really from fresh cuts. If you're a sushi expert this is not your place to come, but if you're just looking for a quick lunch, voila! Fast and cheap.

  • Raúl M.

We had the Sushi Columbia. Sushi was good, the place was nice, inexpensive and perfectly located. I'm happy to recommend it.

Love to eat here for sushi during lunch hour. I order online and just go pick it up. The prices are very reasonable and they have great smoothies. Their lunch Combos are great!

  • Helen S.

Wow. I ate take-out dins from here on a recent Chicago trip and got the salmon don. So. Incredibly. Good. Salmon was very fresh on a bed of rice, and there were a bunch of huge slices that was very filling. For $12, this is a steal. It also came with a side of miso soup that was pretty good, and I also got an avocado bubble smoothie. If I lived near here, I'd be eating this on a weekly basis.

    (5)
  • Zach C.

The sushi here was okay. Their menu is pretty huge, but it essentially split into two categories: cheap and not cheap. Most of the basic raw fish sushi dishes are on the "cheap" menu, and the "not cheap" menu has thing like shrimp tempura or more 'fancy' types of sushi. We had to wait a while for our food. It was cheap & quick. Apparently if you order online you save 10%.

  • Nilay P.

Good Place, Hardly any space to seat tho. If you are looking for quick lunch/snack and carry it out. Perfect place.

    (4)
  • Daniel N.

Good sushi for the value, super easy online ordering and 10% discount for ordering online too! Very small establishment, couldn't imagine dining in anyway. The Fireworks and Fantastic special rolls were both delicious. No super crazy rolls like many other sushi places though, even their special rolls are pretty tame.

    (4)
  • McKenzie G.

I eat here enough, so I thought it is only fair to write a review for them. The sushi is consistently delicious and low cost (even with delivery)! The fish lovers roll is my favorite, but I always add a spicy white tuna roll and miso soup. I like this place way better than some of the more expensive delivery places & I will continue to order from Osaka Express! Side note: I was surprised to see their store location in the pedway, but the food is good and they deliver!

This place is very tasty and reasonably priced! This is a regular spot when I want sushi in Chicago near the South Loop!!

    (5)
  • Deborah L.

Ate here for a quick meal while at conference at the Hilton. Quick because they really did serve pretty quickly and I was with a party of 7. The place is really small and not much for decor, so it isn't like you want to stay long. But the food was good and 'm sure it's great for take out to the park on a pretty day. 'Give it a go, I'd go back!

  • Jeannie O.

The food was great! Very affordable and the fish was fresh! I really liked one of the Don (#502, I don't remember what it was called) but it had a variety of fish, avocado, and crab on a bed of rice with a cup of miso soup. My only suggestion for the food is I wish the wasabi was on the side rather than under the fish eggs. I appreciate the little things such as packets of soy sauce with a small plastic dipping cup! The location and space is in the city and it's small with two 4-seat tables. Then 8 seats in a bar-style that faces the windows. This place encourages take-out but that's fine with me. Parking isn't ideal because it's the city but it is what it is. I hope this place expands because it's a treasure!

I'm in Chicago for work and wanted to find a place that delivered sushi. I read reviews and it seemed that osaka would be a great choice. It wasn't the best sushi I've had. I would compare it to grocery store sushi. The yellow tail didn't seem fresh and there was more rice that tuna in the spicy tuna roll. I won't eat here again, but it was okay for the price.

  • Eric W.

Fresh fish and lots of it for the rice. Quick and relatively cheap, Osaka is a neighborhood gem

    (5)
  • Lori S.

Excellent basic sushi, great online ordering process, friendly folks, and a delicious freshly made smoothie. Ten pieces of veggie rolls and two-fruit smoothie for $8.50. Pretty good, i'd say! It is one of the best lunch carry-out spots I've seen here. Quick, delicious, inexpensive. Perfect.

    (5)
  • Brian K.

Overpriced and mediocre. If you have a sushi itch, Osaka can satisfy it but it was too expensive for what you get. Very stingy with the fish, you could barely taste the fish. You'd get more raw fish at a second-rate buffet than here. Even the seaweed salad is a misnomer. The tub labeled, Seaweed salad, was not all seaweed salad. Half of it was sliced cucumbers and they masked it with seaweed on top so you can't see the cucumbers. $24 for a spicy tuna roll, My Best Friend roll, seaweed salad, and spicy yellowtail roll. Way overpriced. You're help paying for their expensive Michigan Ave. rent, not for good sushi.

Don't know why I haven't reviewed this gem before. This place never ceases to amaze me. It is consistently good. Aside from Ora, this is my favorite sushi joint in Chicago. Their dons are cheap, yet sooo good. Their rolls are good, sushi is good, boba is good, everything is just good! You really can't get this quality for the price anywhere else.

One of my favorite sushi places. My favorite dish is their salmon don bowl. It is a bowl filled with rice with a layer of mostly salmon and avocado on top with a few other pieces of shrimp. If I manage to roll the rice up with both a piece of salmon and avocado (my chopstick skills need improving) its a lovely taste of heaven. Its a little expensive but definitely worth it. Their green tea, miso soup, and tapioca smoothies are also really great.

This review was drafted about a year ago but just posting now. Now I wish I was staying downtown for at least another day so I could come back for more. My fave new place in Chi town

  • Sara P.

I expected much more from my meal here given the good reviews. While the prices were low, I think it shows in the quality. We ordered fresh rolls made to order and not from the case, but the rolls were very cold. The rice had okay flavor, but was gummy. There was practically no spicy tuna in my spicy tuna roll--if I wanted a veggie roll, I would have ordered that. The minuscule amount of spicy tuna I did have in my roll was not spicy at all and was an unusual color compared to all other spicy tuna rolls I have ever had. I tried the salmon avocado roll. I was supposed to share it with my husband, but the pieces were so big that I gagged trying to eat it. So I ended up hungry after the meal. The only thing I enjoyed was the avocado mango smoothie with "mini pearls" that my husband ordered and which I shared with him after it became clear that the rest of the meal would not suffice.

    (2)
  • P G.

It took 25 minutes for my order which they said would take 10 minutes. They made orders for people that came in after me which I found offensive. Their lack of consideration made me miss my train and stay downtown an additional 40 minutes.

I work in the loop so it's nice to have an affordable lunch option (affordable SUSHI no less). I don't venture into any crazy rolls (it's lunch, don't have time for that) but the basics I've had here have been great! Also, the smoothies are delicious! If you're looking for reasonable food on Michigan Ave - look no further!

I am updating this review as since my first order with them, every delivery after that has been pretty average. The hand roll has hardly any salmon in it (a couple of strips) the seaweed is soggy as if it had been hours before to turn mushy and the salmon sashimi has shrunk in size, the pieces are slithers! The Salmon and Avo rolls were still good. Quite disappointed as the quality of fish is very good!

First off A-MA-ZING smoothies like whoa the taste of real fruit just explodes in your mouth and the price is so worth it 3.5 for 24 oz and the sushi was fresh and delish and well priced as well, ordered the veg roll sample plate and it was enough to fill the stomach of 2 people, oh I did takeout and the service was fast like the entire order was ready in less than 10 min and the staff gave us two sets of plates and cutlery plus plenty of soy sauce packets to use! Will definitely come back when I'm in Chicago!

I never liked sushi and still really don't. I will only eat it if it is made to my standards. This place embraced my pickiness without getting offended. I have some outlandish requests when it comes to making my sushi. 1. Please put on new gloves so there's not unusual flavors in my roll 2. Put the rice on the outside. I will not eat it if the seaweed is on the outside. 3. Only veggies, carrots, and cucumbers 4. Cut roll into 8 pieces instead of 6 so they can fit decently in my mouth. The young girl behind the counter kind of giggled when I was telling her my requests but sure enough relayed them on to the sushi maker. She told me the total was $3 and some change, which was hard to believe considering my first and only sushi experience was in Tribeca in NYC. Since I was paying with a card ($5 min) I decided to order another roll. When they handed me my to-go bag, I asked for extra wasabi and soy sauce which was no problem either (some places charge or get annoyed *cough* whole foods). The rolls were delicious and just how I like them. The price and the service are added bonuses. The only downfall is that I didn't know about this place before. I could have saved so many of those Chipotle calories when I had classes at DePaul.

I really don't like sushi, so I never had any of that. But when I was living in the area, I was going in for a smoothie almost everyday! They are totally delicious, made with fresh fruit right in front of you. You don't exactly want to drink the smoothie in the restaurant, because it does smell like fish and that kind of throws the senses for a confusing loop. But I totally recommend Osaka! Way better than Jamba Juice!

What an awesome sushi spot, and totally affordable. Considering the prices, I was expecting bad rice or something off but everything was tasty. Came in with a few others and ordered one of their party trays to split. I was surprised at how quickly our order came out. As usual, I beat the rush; I only wish I had tried one of their smoothies before leaving. I don't usually eat carbs but this was a great way to start a day of just walking the Loop and partaking in touristy activities. The establishment is on the small side so seating is limited, they probably cater in to-go orders.

Another quick lunch spot, I usually order online and pick it up and eat my lunch back in the office. Everything I've had are pretty fresh and the sashimi isn't too thin like some other restaurants. I also really enjoy their smoothies very fresh fruits :) overall! Great sushi and great value for lunch! Wish it was closer to my work :/

LOVE. Great, quick, and delicious. I live right around the corner from this place and it is my go-to place for great sushi and cheap! Its like a fast food sushi restaurant. Ive tried numerous different sushi and cant get enough. The smoothies are amazing. Warning- they come in one size Large. Which is just the right size to fill me up along with a 5 piece sushi plate. The most I have ever spent here is $10.50. I can not say enough great things about this place.

First time coming here... but heard a lot of great things about it from friends. Ordered Sample D & strawberry mango tapioca 10min before closing. Got the food super fast. We ate outside in a park across from the restaurant. It was... DEEE licious. Reasonable price, fast service. Definitely will be back.

Probably my favorite sushi place so far in the city, I guess it helps that it's only about a 10 minute walk from my apartment, it's crazy awesome cheap, and the sushi is actually pretty good, too. I had two orders, one salmon, one salmon-avocado, and it came out to a total of only about $8! I'm personally more of a spicy salmon gal, so the plain salmon tasted a little bland, but I certainly plan on going back soon to try the spicy salmon and one of those smoothies. Really, if you're looking for a good deal and some tasty sushi, I can't recommend Osaka enough. Even though the place is a little small, it's perfect for two people or to take-out and eat at home. Perfection.

Once again, too much fish for the rice. I went from a roll to a bunch of sashimi. I'm talking thick, long pieces of salmon. Sigh, I love Osaka.

If I'm thinking sushi, I'm not generally going to go out of my way to get to Osaka. The smoothies, sushi, and periodic soup options are, as Yelp describes my 3-star review, "A-OK," and I can't say any of it's terrible. Since the place is so close to where I work and the service is generally pretty quick, I end up grabbing a lunch combo or quick smoothie to mix it up. There was one instance where there were weird plastic shards in my friend's smoothie, but he attests that this was a one-time whoopsie and has not been a repeat offense. The fish itself is generally pretty fresh and lacking in odor, but the prices are also a little steep for the quick, simple spot that Osaka is. All in all, in short, "A-OK" - it won't ruin your day, but it also won't give you any sort of mouthgasms.

I stayed in the Hilton that is rather close to this place, because I walked past it every time from the metro station to the hotel. Decided to give it a try. The place also serves up fresh fruit smoothies starting from $3.5 for a plain smoothies, and also have smoothies with green jelly (extra $0.50) or with additional mix fruit on the top of the smoothies (extra $0.75) This is a very small place and had a few seating. The sushi is ok for what it is, the lunch combinations starts from $4.95, the Salmon Avocado Roll and Tuna Avocado Roll 4 pieces each was $7.60. There is dinner combination rolls or you can order the roll on its own. There is also Rice dishes like Unagi Don, Salmon Don ...etc. A very reasonable priced place in a rather expensive district.

The only place in the Loop for sushi and smoothies is Osaka. I love this place. It's very close to work, so I am there at least twice a week for lunch. Is it the best sushi in Chicago? No, but when I need my sushi and smoothie fix, this is my #1 go-to place for lunch. It is very convenient for me to place an order online and have it ready for me to pick up. Plus, you get a discount for orders placed between a specific time. I am a huge fan of their smoothies, because you can ask for less/no ice, less/no syrup and extra boba.

I'm very happy when I find Osaka sushi express. I am able to eat Sushi in Chicago. Yeah! The ingredients are fresh. Salmon, Yellow Tail, and Tuna. Personally, I like to eat traditional sushi nigiri but Chicago roll in this restaurant changes my mind to new type sushi. Osaka sushi express is in my restaurant list. :) ^_^

Lunch specials are only during the weekdays, so if you really want a good deal don't go on the weekends! Not that it was bad on the weekend, but you can get more for your money on the weekdays!!! Overall experience was great! It's a pretty small establishment, so if you're looking for a huge place to hangout with your friends and have a meal - I'd suggest getting it to go and eat else where. I got a peach lychee smoothie, not too bad and it's a pretty large serving. Sushi wasn't too bad either, especially for the price! I'd definitely go back there again, it's a good lunch spot.

Small but elegant. Very fresh indeed. This restraint is run by a Hong Kong family, and they have been here for 11 years. That's the assurance for consistent quality. The bar is just by Michigan Avenue, facing the park. Great food and great views as well!

Since I came US I've noticed that it's pretty hard to find a good Asian restaurant. I was really disappointed when I realized that Chicago doesn't have fresh seafood. I was passing by this place many times but I didn't notice until my friend told me they have fresh smoothies. It's located on South Michigan Ave, Loop area, so it's really easy to approach. For me, it's right next building to my apartment. I personally recommend any sushi or roll with fresh salmon. I liked salmon don as well. They have really good fresh salmon! They also have udon which is noddle soup for winter seasonal menu. As I mentioned, they make smoothies with fresh fruits. My favourite is Mango and Strawberry+Kiwi. Talking about price, it's pretty cheap compared to quality and location. It will cost you around $20 for 2 people. Most of employees are native Japanese so they have little bit of accent when they talk, so it could be hard to communicate but it was fine for me. They are really nice and friendly so I liked it. It seems like it's hard to park around this place, but you can use public parking. This place is basically pretty small. It's more of place for people who eat by themselves or with just a couple of company

Not bad at all! I won't go here for sushi excellence, but when I want a sushi fix quickly and cheaply -- I'll be here. We got one of the party trays with an assortment of sashimi and rolls. Fish was fresh, nothing was life altering delicious, but It soothed our sushi cravings without breaking the bank. Easy online ordering, quick pickup -- easy transaction!

My cousin and I recently visited Osaka Sushi. We ordered three rolls, two salads and a smoothie - costing at about $35. Upon tasting the spicy tuna roll, we both noticed that the tuna did not seem "fresh." We notified the associate and requested we switch out the roll for another California Roll -- easy fix, right? Their reaction was quite an undesirable one-- they insulted my cousin and I, stating we "do not like spicy tuna." We calmly explained that we order spicy tuna all the time, but this particular roll did not taste up to standards. They continued to fight us, stating we were being "wasteful." This difficult conversation went on for about 3 minutes. Very poor customer service. They reluctantly replaced the spicy tuna roll for the requested California roll. Next time, to avoid this hassle, I will be sure to let them know I'll be calling the Public Health Department.

Needed something quick to eat that wasn't too heavy and near our hotel. We found this place for sushi and it also had fruit smoothies! The rainbow roll was delicious and my wife enjoyed her California roll. Reasonably priced and they deliver to my son's dorm. Perfect! You'll like it too.

Amazing smoothie. Although Osaka is a sushi restaurant, it has better smoothies than sushi. I really love its papaya smoothie, which had the right portions of fruit and ice. In fact, I like the smoothies at Osaka more than those in Jumba Juice and Joey's in Chinatown. I would love to try the avocado smoothie next time. On the other hand, the miso soup was made out of powder rather than paste. The tamago (egg) nigri was also not that fresh. I noticed that all the staff speak Cantonese. While I speak the language, I deliberately avoided using it, seeing how the staff treats customers normally. Frankly speaking, they were not very friendly when I asked them about my order. However, if you were in a hurry and wanted to grab something quick to go, Osaka would be a convenient location to stop by. I would definitely come back for the smoothie, but not for the sushi. Food: 3 (5 for the smoothie, 2 for the tamago and miso soup) Service: 3 Decor: 3

Not sure why others knock the dine in area so much. I thought it looked nice inside. Maybe they renovated recently? It's a pretty casual place overall. Even if you dine in, you get the same to-go stuff without the covers for the sushi dishes, which I think is perfectly fine. If they can cut customer costs by streamlining services that have little effect on the experience and makes things easier for everyone, I'm all about that. Out of the maki my friend and I tried, I really liked the Michigan and Dragon rolls. I agree they're not mind blowing but I thought they were definitely worth coming back for. The prices were definitely reasonable too. The girl at the counter was super friendly and everything came out exceptionally fast. Good job, guys!

I frequent this place primarily because it's near my school. For students in the area, it's ideal because a.) it's relatively cheap considering it's in the Loop. Nearly all Sushi rolls are $5 or less (this excludes Special Rolls) b.) the sushi is decent (not nearly the best sushi I've had, but worth the price c.) fruit smoothies are fresh and delicious (unique flavors like avocado, honeydew, and lychee as well as standards like strawberry, banana, and mango). *a note: the smoothies are more slushy-like. Don't expect your standard creamy Jamba smoothies I recommend Osaka if you're looking for a quick bite in between/after classes. Also, if you know what REAL tapioca tastes like, DON'T GET IT HERE. The boba is stale, not fresh at all. And it costs you an additional $0.50.

I can't express in words how I love their sushi, I'm addicted to the My Best friend Roll. Everyone that I share my sushi with falls in love too, even those who have never had sushi are surprised on how delicious sushi is. Another thing to know, the delivery guys are fast! Overall they are the best, I've never been disappointed by them.

There was 8.46 pm and me and a friend were starving. We found this restaurant in yelp. Is very close to our Hostel (hosteling International). We asked some rolls. The staff was looking at us like "do you know at time it is?", they closed at 9. They were doing our rolls and another waitress was cleaning the restaurant. The place is like a fast food place. Is small, tall tables. We couldn't eat inside the restaurant because of the closing time. The rolls were very tasty. Just 3 stars because of the staff. They were rude because was almost time to close.

This is a very small sushi restaurant on Michigan Ave. Don't let the size of this place deter you from ordering. We ordered a party platter and the sushi was delicious and tasted fresh. The staff was friendly and helpful. You order at the counter and then they bring the food out. I would consider this a no frills sushi restaurant with quick service and delicious sushi!

There are lot of things to say about Osaka. My favorite mini express restaurant is a really great choice for people who wants to get their Japanese food in less than 15 minutes or for instant takeout. Osaka is one of places that I will go on the weekend at least twice for lunch and dinner because: * Located on Michigan Avenue which makes the place easy to get to, and the fact that it is actually located next to my apartment makes me visit Osaka more. * Looks eye catching from outside. The inside is well decorated with bright turquoise paint. Small clean space with bar style tables facing the windows makes it looks neat and bright. The counters for foods and smoothies are separated so there are clear lines for people who wait only for food, smoothies, or both. * Affordable a la carte menus, and amazing price for lunch set menu (11 pm. - 2 pm.) and dinner set menu (2 pm. - 9 pm.). They have small fridge and put the fresh-made salad and sushi inside it specially for lunch and dinner takeout rush hour. But if you are not really sure or just want to see some fancy cutting skill the chef has, you can ask them to specially make it for you. * Great plain smoothies under $4. They used fresh fruits every day, and you can choose 1 or 2 kind of fruits that you want. Pay a buck or two to get extra toppings or flavors add such as tapioca, jellies, or some slices of fresh fruit on the top of your smoothie. * Even though the waiters can sometimes be a bit unpleasant, they served you fast and efficient. It happened for the first couple days to me as their new costumer, but after some visits, they got sot friendly and nice. I really recommend this restaurant either to get some snack or just drop by and buy a glass of super delicious and popular Strawberry - Kiwi smoothie.

I just arrived at my hotel after a long day and wanted something fresh, fast and easy. Luckily, Osaka Express was two blocks away and by the time I walked there, my order was ready for pick up. The best thing about this place is how fast and cheap it is - which aren't two adjectives you normally want to describe your sushi, but in this case it was great. The sushi was good and I got a lot of it. My miso soup cost $1.50 and came in a large container swimming with tofu and seaweed. It was everything I wanted. If you're looking for a nicer sit down sushi place, Oysy and Hot Woks aren't far, but if you just had a long day and don't want to think about anything and just eat sushi in your room, this is the place to go.

This place is right next to my school, and have some of the best and most reasonably priced smoothies in the loop. I recommend the strawberry banana. I'm not a sushi fan, so I can't contribute on that note. Definitely a solid summer option in the south loop.

we were in Chicago for a Convention and stayed at the Congress. we needed sustenance prior to the evening activities and didn't want to pay the horrific prices for below average food that the hotel offered so we decided to give these guys a try as it was COLD (end of April and 40 degrees? not cool Chicago, not cool) (yes that pun was intended - I'm sorry, but not really) not only were they fast, they were pretty damn fresh, and the price was right and it was a hell of a lot better than pizza.

I can't comment on the interior because we ordered delivery from Osaka. My roommate and I ordered an assortment of traditional rolls and some edamame ( which was served chilled not warm, I found this odd) and everything tasted great and was obviously fresh and made to order. It took way over an hour to get our grub, but it was our fault for ordering food during a sports game. I would definitely order from here again!

Yummy! So close to Michigan Ave. I had My Best Friend's Roll & miso soup. My boyfriend had the Columbia Special which was a roll and sashimi. All were exceptionally good but the BEST part was the mango smoothie with tapioca balls.. MMMM If I'm in the loop from now on, chances are I'm going here. Affordable sushi in Chicago :-)

I've been looking for a go-to place near work to satiate my weekly sushi cravings, and I think I've found it in Osaka Express. Admittedly, this place isn't all that close to my work - a good 6 blocks - but if it means good "fast food" sushi, I'll walk it. I ordered Osaka Express today for lunch. You can order for pick-up or delivery on the website. It took me about 15 minutes to get over there to pick it up, and the food was ready to go. The girl behind the counter was very friendly, and the place was clean. It seemed like they constantly were refilling their selection of ready-made sushi trays, and frankly, everything looked pretty delicious. The rolls I ordered, the Let's Roll and the Chicago Roll, were both very good, especially the Let's Roll. It tasted extremely fresh - the white tuna on top practically melted in my mouth. I didn't try a smoothie, so I can't comment on that . . . yet. For what it is - express sushi - I really think this place is top-notch. I've tried a few other express sushi places in the loop and been mostly unimpressed. Either the sushi has been kind of warm and weird-tasting, leaving me a little nervous about what I've just consumed, or the rolls have been messy, or what have you. But that wasn't the case at Osaka. My rolls were fresh and neatly made, and taste-wise, I feel they could compete with plenty of rolls I've had at sit-down places. The prices seemed standard, too: my two specialty rolls came to $15. The regular rolls are quite a bit cheaper, at about $5 or less each. Thumbs up from me, Osaka! See you next week!

This place was great. Reasonably priced and reasonably quick, casual service. I got the following rolls: Tobiko California Roll ($5.00) -not bad, but pretty much a California roll Lunch J California, Spicy Tuna, Philadelphia ($6.55)- simple rolls but pretty good Lunch C My Best Friend's Roll ($8.25)- pretty good. my fiance really liked it Michigan Roll ($8.75)- My absolute favorite! Clam, squid, crab meat, fish egg, mayonnaise, avocado, and spicy sauce. I would definitely recommend this place!

Visiting from out of town and sushi was so good that we tried to come back twice in 3 days (sadly they were closed on Sundays). I am now back home in a city with no good sushi, and still reminiscing of the sushi at osaka. We loved the fish lover's roll. Try this place, as you will not be disappointed. We did take out which was quick and seamless.

The sushi here is not the greatest but at the price they charge, you can't really complain. I had a major craving for sushi and saw all of the good reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of their rolls for the price.

    (4)
  • Chrissie C.

One of the best and cheap sushi I've had in the city. They have variety of sushi choices and sashimi is amazingly fresh! Love the "fish lover" roll and "Bethoven"roll. MUST try if you're around downtown chicago and craving for good sushi.

  • Michelle L.

So I really love this place. I'm always around that area and I'm kinda sad I didn't know about Osaka sooner!! They have great sushi at very affordable prices. I was so surprised at how inexpensive the rolls were considering its downtown location. Osaka Express is great for take-out and casual dine-ins. My sushi taste is kind of plain, I usually get a Salmon Roll, Tuna Roll, and Oshinko Roll. I was actually surprised they sold the Oshinko roll, not many restaurants offer that!! I'm not the biggest Unagi fan, but I really like Osaka Sushi's Unagi Roll!! The sauce they make the Unagi with is really tasty! They also sell fruit drinks which is a major plus! Another reason why I love Osaka Sushi, besides the awesome sushi at awesome prices, is their awesome customer service. Asian take-out places usually have the worst service, but Osaka Express proves that you can have it all!! The staff there is super friendly and the girl that works at the cash register is very smiley. They really make me feel welcomed. I wish the sushi take-out place by my house had service like Osaka Express. Whenever I'm in the South-Loop, Osaka Express is definitely my go-to for sushi. It's great for someone who doesn't want to burn a hole in their pocket because of their constant craving for sushi!!

  • Jialing H.

Nice small place at a prosperous street. The sushi does not look very special. I mean it is good but nothing impressive. Price may seem low but meanwhile you cannot expect too much on the sushi's quality. I suggest coming here to have lunch not dinner. Price is more reasonable!

Delicious sushi. Is a small place, better for take away but is worth it. Beethoven roll is my favorite.

  • Vincent Y.

So this is obviously not Sukiyabashi Jiro sushi. Heck it's not even Bay Area sushi. But it's good. And it's well priced. And it's fast. That's all I can ask for--a Chicago loop must if you work in an office around here. Or are going to a concert/music festival.

    (5)
  • Ngoc N.

Great lunch spot! Fresh fish, that's all I need at a sushi place....well other things though. This is fast-food though, so standards aren't as high since I just want to go in and then out.

    (5)
  • Brandon W.

I've had the sushi and it's very good, but this review is about their smoothies. Probably the best I've had in Chicago. You're missing out if you're in the area and don't get one. The service is great and you can be in and out in a few minutes with just a smoothie and/or sushi.

    (5)
  • Xuesong B.

Their smoothie is the best I have ever had. Since this place is very near from where I live, I get it all the time, especially in summer time. And for the favors, I usually get the mango and peach one. It tastes so good and fresh! I love it a lot so even it is cold outside I still would like to get it once in a while. Their sushi is fine, I like sushi, not a big big fun though. So to me, they are like , average.

    (4)
  • Christopher L.

This place is really friendly and do not short-change customer in anything. The Smoothies are made fresh with fruits, and their rolls are simply exceptional. Too bad I have a "no repeat policy" while vacationing...very tempted to break that policy....

  • Joyce C.

Tiny, but great option in the Loop. It's right by my building and the selection of sushi is pretty good. The wait can be kinda crazy, but if you go at an off time, it's super quick. There is also an online ordering option. Not the cheapest lunch, but way way better than that Tokyo Lunchbox down the street. And the smoothies are almost like Joy Yee's!! Almost, I said....close enough!!

  • Eric H.

The triad of desirables: taste, speed, and price are a difficult group to balance, and Osaka Express does it just right. While not the absolute best sushi around, it's much more affordable and very very fast! Great for a casual lunch for two, or just to grab and go on to work.

    (5)
  • Katrina M.

I've been going here for years 'cause they have the best bubble tea in the Loop. Tapioca pearls are chewy and perfect. I love their freshly-made rolls, esp at the lunch-time prices. Once I had rolls that were cut at least a little over one inch thick and they had right amounts of rice, salmon, tuna, and avocado..I got two nice sized rolls (total 8 pieces) for $7.

    (5)
  • Kaitlynne F.

Not the best sushi I've ever had, but not bad. They are pretty reasonably priced and have a lot of options. However, it seemed really difficult to find rolls without mayo in them. I also got the seaweed salad which had cucumber on the bottom...seems like a way to cheap out and give you less seaweed salad. Overall pleasant experience but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

  • Hoang L.

Wish they had double doors or a revolving door because it gets chilly in here every time someone walks in and out. I didn't try the smoothie because I was freezing. Miso soup. Nice and hot! Although I must say it was rather flavorless and not salty enough. Unagi, spicy tuna, and salmon avocado was ok at best. The seaweed seemed old and made the rolls very chewy. Spent about $11for the soup and Lunch Combination G with no drink and I was still hungry. Had to get a Snickers bar on the way back to the office. The pickled ginger was old and Osaka didn't give much of it. Restaurant was very clean, so that was a plus.

Honestly, it's nothing to write home about. But when it comes to a quick, easy, and affordable quick lunch or dinner, it'll do the trick. I tried this place because I'm new to the area and it's close. My seaweed salad looked like it had been prepared for on-the-go sale as it was pre-labeled with price in its little container, but it tasted delicious-- if you mess up seaweed salad, you've got another thing coming. And, to echo some other reviewers, the rice was warm in one of my two rolls; that makes me concerned that the other roll was not particularly fresh and had been refrigerated for some time. However, I placed my order online and received a discount for doing so, and it was very easy; the fish, indeed, was NOT funky, and it tasted great for the price and convenience. My order was also all ready to go once I arrived, and it's less than a 5 minute walk. The interior is nothing special, but it looks nice, not outdated. The 2 employees with whom I interacted were very friendly.

Sushi is amazing and so fresh! I absolutely love their smoothies. Sometimes I'll just go for a smoothie and that's it. Cantaloupe with tapioca. Mmmmmmm.

Great smoothies and great sushi. Nothing to complain about. My mango and papaya smoothie was extremely good and my nigiri was fresh and flavorful. Great quality for the price. Try it if you're ever downtown and in need of either of these staples.

Osaka Express probably makes one of the most refreshing smoothies I've had in Chicago! At 24 oz. for $3.25 the smoothies are way bigger and cheaper than Jamba Juice(vs.16oz priced around $4.00). No dairy is added, just lots of fresh fruit, lemon syrup, and ice. The employees are kind and the interior is immaculate. The seating is all inside-some outdoor seating here would be a nice addition though. The register is right near the entrance so every now and then it gets a little crammed while waiting to place your order or pick up your food, but sometimes no elbow room is way worth it for blended, refreshing, smoothie sips. The rolls here also rock and are made fresh to order. Yay Osaka Express!

Good food for decent price considering it's Japanese & the location (near Grant Park). But since it is an "express", not many seating, but friend did say the bathroom was very clean . Would love to go there again.

Osaka has been my go to place for the past 3 years. They have always been so friendly while delivering some of the most freshest and delicious food in the loop!

Really good, fresh, sushi. I got the spicy tuna, yellow tail and negi hamachi (eel, avocado and mango) rolls. They were all very tasty and filling. A qucik walk from the office was nice too.

A really great place to come to if you are in a hurry and want something to fill up on quick. They have freshly made fruit tapiocas here as well as freshly made sushi. When you walk in, you can definitely smell the vinegariness of the sushi rice. A small place but the workers are fast at taking your order and serving you. Theres about 6 window counter seats if you need to sit down to eat. The tapioca drinks are delicious and not overly priced for downtown!

I had the salmon and tuna avocado roll on the lunch special. The fish tasted fresh but the rice was slighter harder then expected. Good size chunk of fish. Price was ok at $7. This place is good for a quick bite but not my go to place for great sushi.

The eel here is surprisingly better that the sushi para places. The sushi here is okay, not the greatest but a good pick-me-up before class. The smoothies are why this place is to good, at least for me. Mango strawberry with green jellies, and that watermelon with green jellies--that's all I need to survive working at school this summer.

Quick, tasty, but portions are a little smaller than what I would expect. No noodles either... just sushi. Good for a quick bite to eat.

  • Luke D.

The sushi here is abysmal. On a few occasions I have received rolls with warm or hot rice-- completely unacceptable. The quality or cut of the fish is generally low. I am not expecting Macku or Mirai at this price, but something along the lines of what Whole Foods offers is not too much to ask. The smoothies are very good and the basis for the 2 stars. I would come back for the smoothies but never again for the sushi.

Best mango smoothies in chicago! After looking for a decent sushi place for lunch in the loop, i came across osaka express and wasn't disappointed. It seemed very popular which made it likely to have fresh sushi. I tried the Lunch L combo (tuna roll, yellow tail, salmon rolls) and was very disappointed. It seemed stale, old and without any flavor. Luckily i had also ordered the spicy white tuna roll which was very good. I'd definitely go back for it. The smoothies are also excellent!

Great Smoothies!!!!!! Today I had a Watermelon Strawberry Smoothie. They use fresh fruit, none of that frozen stuff. The sushi looks fresh and scrumptious however I am highly allergic to fish, so unfortunately I will stick with the smoothies :)

I used a few living social coupons here and that's what got me hooked! This place is over 8 blocks from my job but I will do the trek. The sushi is fresh, wasabi is whipped, which is awesome and the prices are fantastic! Can't go wrong with this place!

I've been here twice but don't remember the first time. Tonight my boyfriend and I ran in before catching our train, Metra is just outside their door. My boyfriend got a straight mango smoothie and I wasn't sure. I asked the cashier for a recommendation and she made a couple, both with mango. I said that I wanted something a little different because you can get mango anywhere and she then recommended strawberry with lychee, esp because lychees are in season. She was spot on! It was the best smoothie I've had.

Tasty tasty - this place def makes it easier to try and keep up w/ my expert sushi whore of a friend. First off, the place is super cute inside, with bright walls and gorgeous pics of all the sushi you didn't order but will now be dying to come back and try. There's not a lot of seating, but during the lunch rush it seemed like everyone was getting theirs to go, so seating wasn't a prob. The sushi expert and I tried three different rolls: Dragon, Beethoven, and I Like Shrimp. Try to figure out which one was my wimp ass selection - you've got three guesses and the first two don't count. I also decided it was absolutely necessary to have a Strawberry Banana Smoothie. I dug all three rolls and was crazy impressed at how fresh everything tasted. Oh, and the sushi expert loved loved loved the Beethoven, saying if she could make the perfect roll that would be it - especially loving the fact that they didn't skimp on the avocado. Add in the fact that I just about inhaled my tasty smoothie and this place is def going into the lunch rotation. Note: Order online! Your food will be ready when you get there and you'll get 10% off. Also, when getting a two flavor smoothie half the time they forget the second flavor. When you point it out they deny it and refuse to make you the right one. Boo.

This place was pretty good overall. I only had 2 rolls but still. The fish quality was good, the rice cooked well and the seaweed tasty. The prices were also very fair. I would come back to this place for sure.

A couple standouts here: a great location - right on the loop... everything happens on the loop... on a corner just a few short blocks from the famous Bean (where I'm gonna get wedding pictures taken someday. okay maybe) and, like everyone else has said, the fresh fruit smoothies! I got a very satisfying lychee one after a long conference weekend last year. not as good as in asia or even hawaii, but that's neither here nor there. Their sushi is pretty fresh too, if merely humble. had a few basic rolls and a good miso soup to go along with a window seat so I could people watch like the tourist i was. awesome. Free wi-fi, and apparently you can order online too if you're in a hurry. man, if i were an art student i'd be here all the time. Very clean bathroom as well!

It is solid food and a good value, but nothing great or special. It is definitely a step above grocery store sushi, but clearly not top grade, my salmon had a kind of odd texture to it. For the price and speed, it is certainly worth it for a quick lunch or you just need a fast sushi fix. I'll definitely stop in again under either of those circumstances, but definitely not worth going out of your way for.

Oh lunchtime, how I adore and abhor you at the same time! You force me to eat so fast so I can get back to work and wish I was still enjoying your time. Unfortunately, there are not too many quality places where I can go to enjoy some fresh (as can be for fast) sushi rolls and high quality smoothies. But, alas, Osaka is the one who can provide me with both. Yes, I don't stray too far from my average rolls (once again, it is still fast sushi), but nonetheless these rolls are just what I need to fill my lunchtime cravings. The smoothies are also to die for! With the choice of tapioca, green jelly, or mini pearls, or fresh fruit on top, I love coming to Osaka to enjoy a different smoothie whenever I can. Friday was a peach and banana with tapioca balls day. Today's was a mango and lychee smoothie topped with fresh watermelon and cantaloupe. Yes, lunchtime, since you do not provide me with enough time and leisure to enjoy everything, I can bring my smoothie back to my desk and sip on its wonderful goodness. Osaka helps alleviate the lunchtime blues and will continue to do so with its fast service, moderate pricing, and tasty food.

Osaka Express is a great place to grab a quick bite if you are in the mood for some inexpensive sushi- it even implies it in the name! I recently ate here during my lunch break, and was satisfied with my experience. The lunch platter I chose had 3 pieces of eel roll, 3 pieces of california roll and 3 pieces of a spicy shrimp roll- for about $6.50, I was pleased with what I got. Not the greatest sushi I had ever had, but certainly good enough to tie over my sushi cravings. What really wowed me, however, was the smoothie I ordered. For $3, you receive a large smoothie with two fruit additions of your choice. I got a coconut mango smoothie and it was incredibly delicious. By the taste (and the rows of fresh fruit behind the smoothie bar), I could tell it was quite fresh. The texture was a perfect balance between "slushie" and "milkshake", and for the price, this smoothie can't be beat. Overall, for about $11, I got a satisfying, easy meal in at my lunch break. I recommend Osaka Express if you work in the Loop and just need to grab some sushi to satisfy the craving (we've all been there, am I right?)

This is a good quick sushi place. I really go there for the smoothies they are a great price and so good!! The sushi is decent not the best I have had but no reason to not try this place. most everything is made when u order it. The place is always clean and the staff very nice.

I love this place. I'm so glad I work within walking distance. It was one of my top regular lunch spots all summer long. The sushi and salads are fresh and really delicious. The smoothies are the best I've had (seriously, hats off to the lady who makes them). The staff is friendly and efficient. In the summer it's really fun to pick up an order and sit in one of the nearby parks. There are several pre-made lunch items in the cooler which are fresh - don't hesitate to try them. If you do place a specially made order, plan on it taking some time if they're busy.

Yelpers - Just because it's located downtown and their menus are priced "surprisingly" cheap should've give you the clue to their food quality. Not to say, PUNY portions. As for food quality - I'm embarrassed to say, was that really rice in the sushi?? Have you heard of vinegar? And maybe some more water, coz for rice, that was rather dry. I got take-out because I didn't have enough time to sit down, but doesn't mean that you should only give me one fucking piece of ginger. ONE?? "Express" is in their restaurant name. That should give you a hint to as how they approach their foods. These people don't treat sushi as an art form - they just think of it as foods. What a shame. Thinking about it now, I don't feel so guilty that I tipped them only 23 cents for a $9 bill.

  • Megan M.

The sushi here is no where near remarkable, nor is it very filling. I'd consider their lunch combinations snacks rather than full meals. The lunch specials run from $5-$9 but only have maybe 8 pieces of the safer, simple rolls (California, spicy tuna, etc.). The special rolls have a little more excitement in them and run from $8-$10. Those were decent, still pretty small compared to the typical sushi places I've been too. On to the fresh fruit smoothies... now THOSE are filling. Whole meal status! 24 oz of fresh fruity goodness, all for $3.50! $0.50 more for tapioca, which I've chosen to opt out of after my friend called them gooey balls of calories (ugh, who does that!). Definitely something I'd come back for on a daily basis. Oh! And order online and you'll get 10% off!

While staying in Chicago, we walked by this sushi take out every day. It had my attention and the menu made the fish look tasty. We opted to eat here for lunch our last day in town. Dustin and I got the Osaka roll and the Beethoven roll. The Osaka roll is eel and crab roll with mango and avocado on top. The Beethoven roll was mango and avocado roll with salmon on top. I like mango in/on sushi rolls because it compliments the sweetness of the fish so well. Dont bother with the miso soup. This place is tiny, but it has good window seats for people watching. All orders are placed take-out style, and they have a refrigerated cabinet with pre-made items.

Removed one star because the delivery arrived 35 minutes late. However this is the best sushi delivery I have had in Chicago in six years. They stuff the Don Chirashi with cuts of fresh sushi, vegetables, crab and rice. For $11. Sea Dog charges $23 for the same thing. Everything is packaged wonderfully. It arrived fresh and the soup hot. I'm not ordering sushi from anyone else again.

It only took me six months of working right next to this place to finally try it.. Why did I wait so long?! All this time I've been giving my $10 to Panera or Corner Bakery or Cosi when I could have been feasting on yummy sushi rolls for $3-5 each! A six-piece roll is about $4.75 if you want the good stuff in it (salmon, avocado, crab meat, etc!). I prefer the nine-piece lunch combos, though - they do a better job of really filling me up. My favorite is the "J" combo, which includes a spicy tuna roll, a California roll and a Philadelphia roll for $6.50. And if you place your order (delivery or pickup) online, you get 10% off. Sweeet! Aside from the inexpensive and delicious sushi, this place is also ridiculously clean with good seating and very friendly employees. For me, that makes it an easy five stars.

I ordered sushi from here for dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. I can't give it 5 stars, as I've never eaten there (and truly I have had better sushi). It was pretty damn good though, and here's what I liked: ~the value. the sushi, and especially the sashimi, was really reasonably priced (but there was still enough fish to satisfy). ~online ordering. this is always worth an extra star in my book! ~fresh fish. none of the fishy smell. ~the delivery didn't take too long - was well under the 45 minutes they had told me. ~sushi in my tummy makes me happy. I look forward to returning for lunch sometime :)

Personally, I would like to have given it 3 stars, but by yelp's rating meter, I give it two because I've had so much better and I probably wouldn't come back. I ordered unagi nigiri, and it probably was one of the worst I've ever had. I mean, it was still good, but they left a lot of the fish fat in it. There was barely any meat in it. I didn't quite like the atmosphere either. Their air conditioning wasn't working and it was a little sloppy. And this is coming from a person who goes to sushi places at least twice a week. One thing that I really did like was their location and price; they're pretty cheap for sushi. Only $2.00 per unagi is a pretty good deal.

This place is kinda cute, with very nice decor, modern chairs and tables and all - which originally intrigued me, because I rarely see anybody eats in there. Well, guess what? Their sushi is fresh, but they give very small portion, and it's really not cheap. Since Osaka locates in the Loop, I honestly would rather go somewhere else instead because I would have other options for better sushi, or cheaper food. I figure that's why no one eats in. The store is run by chinese, some of them can't really speak English - which can occasionally be very awkward. BUT!!! Their smoothies are really good. They give huge portion, for under $4, and the fruits are actually fresh. For under $5 purchase, you have to pay by cash though.

I am a vegetarian so I am always looking for good vegetarian sushi. I had the vegan roll, vegetable roll along with a carrot roll and a miso soup. I also tried one of their strawberry smoothies. The strawberry smoothie was really good. Tasted like fresh strawberries and not strawberry flavoring like you find in many smoothies. The sushi was also good. Rice was decently flavored, not just steamed white rice that I have run into before. Miso was so so. Not bad but not good. I stayed there and enjoyed my dinner. They have a few places to sit but not many. If you do stay there they will bring you your food which is nice. They were really fast which was wonderful for a quick dinner.

Osaka saved me once again whilst working a 2nd year at the Taste of Chicago hellllll. Stuck to the veg sushi and cucumber salad on these extra hot days and always grabbed a bubble tea to go! I tried a few bubble tea combos - lychee + melon, avocado + coconut, lychee + mango. Extremely refreshing and filling!! I highly recommend these flavor combinations and Osaka's fresh and cheap sushi.

I can always use a quick sushi fix, and usually those pre-made sushi packages don't do it for me. A: They're usually dry and tasteless. B: Who knows how long it's been sitting out for. Thankfully a friend introduced me to Osaka. Finally I can satisfy my impulse sushi urges on a whim and not worry about getting mercury poisoning. It's a great place go on your lunch break. Everything is made fresh (or from what I have seen-haven't gotten sick yet) and you can order online so it'll be ready upon arrival. Overall: quick, good, and cheap. Kinda how I like my women.

Oh Osaka. How I love thy smoothies. Being a student at Roosevelt, just down the block, for two years, I often found myself looking for a quick and easy meal. Osaka is a natural first choice. Yes, I love Cafecito, and Cafe Baci has good food as well, but if I want something cheap and healthy, Osaka is the natural choice. You can get a sushi roll and a smoothie for 7 or 8 bucks. This is enough to fill me up and then some. It's a good deal and a lot healthier than anything you'd get at one of the aforementioned cafes. I think their smoothies have gotten a lot better since I've been going there. I'm a bit of a smoothie snob. It's true. I love Joy Yee and hold every Asian smoothie place to their standard. I have to say, Osaka is getting close to living up to the expectation. They are always blended perfectly, sweetened perfectly, and have a most perfect balance of flavors. YUM YUM. Watermelon? YUM. Mango Lychee? YUM. Papaya Coconut? DOUBLE YUM. The sushi is just fine. Nothing out of this world, but fresh and tasty and a good little meal. It's possible that the only thing I'll miss about graduating from Roosevelt is smoothies from Osaha. Yes, I said it.

  • Edgar B.

Since I have been eating (and drinking!) obsessively here for the past 4 years, I figured I'd speak up. First off, prices are good and fair for what you get for sure, however its never gonna be a student-budget lunch that fills you up proper. therefore go here when you're feeling slightly richer. Cause 10-12 pieces of sushi (for those who'll react like that's TOO much, cheaper rolls are tiny) and a smoothie (you gotta do it)is gonna run upwards of 13-14 bucks easy. Speaking of smoothies, this is practially what makes this business stay so busy it seems. They are good enough to keep having them all year round, freezing outside, smoking a cigarete on a COLD Chicago winter day. Pineapple+coconut is sublime , also peach + coconut is said to make your tummy jump up and down from excitement. Lets talk food. Lunch boxes are fine and dandy, yet they dont usually show off the finer flavors going on in here. Try hawaiian roll, wrapped in soy bean instead of seaweed, with crab, shrimp, mango, mayo its yum. Dragon roll is great too, but beware orders that include eel take a while to prepare at times, so dont waltz in there rushing expecting to walk out with sizzling eel rolls within 5 minutes. I love Osaka and sitting in there taking a break from things. Couple years ago they expanded the space a bit more( hard to believe it was even smaller), and they have one of the nicest bathrooms probably out of all fast food locations at the loopy loop. Alrite, done.

A welcome alternative to the standard upscale soup/salad/sandwich chains for a quick lunch near the Art Institute. The sushi is better than you would get at a grocery store yet priced about the same. Had a mango peach smoothie, too; it was an icier rather than milkier type of smoothie.

  • Phil F.

It's all about the smoothies at this place. I really can't think of anyone that comes close on their fruit selection, price and speed. There are a few other places that do bubble tea in the loop but Osaka has them outclassed by a mile. Unfortunately, I really don't feel the same about their sushi. Their pre-made selection is small and usually picked over whenever I stop in. The value here is definitely lacking when compared to the selection and prices at Tokyo Lunch Box (NE corner Jackson & Wabash). Osaka does win on location though. Right on Michigan Avenue. Easy to get in and get out. They did remodel last year to add some extra seating but I've never actually eaten there. Instead, (especially now that summer is around the corner), I'd rather grab a quick smoothie and relax in the park across the street.

  • J Z.

osaka is close to where i live, so i order sushi here whenever i have a craving. here's the main problem - DECLINING fish quality. the rice is always a bit warm which i can accept for a fast food place...but having low grade and un-fresh fish that tastes awful is a recent development i now have to put so much wasabi on it and hope for no food poisoning that its just not good so please clean up your act, get better quality fish, and i will upgrade this rating!

    (3)
  • Amanda C.

The smoothies are awesome for the summer and the fresh fruit they use is on display right inside, so you know exactly what's in your smoothie. I think they are a good value compared to places like Jamba Juice. I do not like the tapioca balls and once they ruined a smoothie- so maybe ask to taste one if you haven't tried them before. What brings it down to 3 stars is the sushi- it is just okay to me and some of the sushi in pre-made containers seems old and the pieces are small. To pay less for fresh sushi and more of it, go to Tokyo Lunch Boxes on Wabash and Jackson. The smoothies are great though and the lady at the cash register is always pleasant.

  • Juan A.

Not the most exciting or tastier sushi but not bad at all specially if you get one of the trays. We got a 32 pcs one for three people and we could barely walk afterwards hahah Not the best sushi ever but decent enough for the price. The smoothies are really good.

  • Terry L.

Just had lunch here. very good. They have some nice lunch combo's. I had spicy tuna, the california roll and the philly roll. You get 3 pieces of each. They are large pieces, really fresh, and full. Tasted great. The wasabi was whipped, not the paste you normally get. I got takeout, next time, I'll order online, since i got a 10% checkin deal with yelp when I checked in there, awesome. The combo was $6.50 plus tax. I also enjoy Tokyo box for lunch a block away, but Osaka pieces seem bigger and fresher - although I think you get more at Tokyo but they are smalled.

Great place for lunch, whether for carry out in the park or back to the office. Fast, friendly service and fresh sushi - what more could you ask for? Delicious smoothies! My fave is pineapple-coconut.

    (4)
  • Nikki F.

Good value for lunch. I got some plain rolls (salmon, tuna, yellow tail) & can't beat the price for what I got. The pieces looked a bit small to me & there's definitely more rice than fish, but for a quick lunch, the bite-size pieces are actually convenient (& tasty). I also tried the seaweed salad. It was a bit too oily/greasy for my taste, but the flavor was great & the cucumber added some freshness & helped counteract the grease-factor. I really wish more places would serve better quality soy sauce & ginger that's not dyed bright pink.... But that's just me!

    (4)
  • Nick A.

WOW, I'm a fan. This is cheap, quality sushi. I can easily eat well here for about 5.50. The Miso soup is the best, not as fishy as some other places. Only down side, I like tuna rolls filled with tuna steak...this was more like a firm tuna paste, but really it tasted the same, the texture was just a little off. If you go to school or work in the South Loop, give this a try!

  • Melissa P.

I've had sushi here a couple of times. I think it is pretty good but I like Tank better. This place is good if you are in a hurry though because they have some stuff already made up. It's pretty cheap food for in the Loop. They have good smoothies too. I just don't give it so many stars because it just didn't taste as good as I've had elsewhere. But if you're in that area try it out. I say it never hurts to try and place and if you like it then go back. It is very clean in there and modern looking but pretty small but I bet it's expensive to have a larger restaurant in that area.

    (3)
  • Dan E.

Combine a food like sushi that is usually expensive in a fast food environment, you have a winning combination. If you work in the area and are a vegetarian then you probably are a regular customer here. And you eat well for pennies. With a number of seafood and vegetable choices, the combinations are extensive. Bottom line: tiny place with cheap, fresh sushi. No coke and no pepsi but they do offer fresh fruit smoothies.

  • Elizabeth T.

One day, I was craving a bubble tea for lunch. I searched and searched for a place in the Loop w/ them and this is the only place I found. I walked all the way down there and I got a coconut bubble tea. It was just okay. I felt sated but that was it. There was no joy. The tapioca beads were raw or something. Next time, I'll make the trip to Chinatown.

    (3)
  • Jade T.

Osaka offers, perhaps, the cheapest sushi in the Loop with the largest variety of vegetarian rolls. I'm talking about $1.75 for each Inari (sweet tofu) or Tamago (egg omelette) sushi. If you're vegan, there's a 5 pc vegan roll for $4.25, etc. Everything is fresh, especially their to-go cold appetizers. While their prices are reasonable, it's too easy to order too much and spend more than you would like (ex: 4 pieces of vegetarian sushi + small seaweed salad = $11, yikes). There is not much space in this restaurant and seating is limited during lunch rush. When you order, they do not have paper sushi checklists. Instead, take a menu and tell them what you want. Happy eatin'!

  • Anna B.

At this very moment, I'm taking advantage of Osaka's free wi-fi to post my review. (FYI - You do have to ask the cashier for the password, the network is locked.) I just got out of class a few moments ago, and I have to get to another one in 20 minutes. When I'm at school and only have a few minutes to eat, Osaka is the obvious choice. I just devoured a cucumber and avocado roll. It was great, as always, and came to $3.34 after tax. I can't offer any advice when it comes to non-veggie sushi, but I can tell you that the smoothies are great, too. My favorites are lychee and mango-coconut with mini pearls! I also appreciate the spotless tables and extremely polite staff. Their bathroom looks like it could be in a hotel! Unbelievably spacious, clean, and nice, especially if you compare it to anywhere else you could grab lunch in 10 minutes. Osaka, you make me so happy. I just wish you would stop playing this weird elevator music...

Stumbled here by accident walking down Michigan Ave. Quality-price ratio + easy online ordering (& 10% discount) is good enough to satisfy random sushi cravings without having to go too far or pay too much. I ordered a chirashi don, at $12 with roughly 6-7 pieces of sashimi, some tobiko and a hefty serving of avacado (+ miso soup), probably not too far off some of its much nicer sit-down sushi kin downtown at 50-60% of the price. I'd give it more stars, but it's not really a full restaurant.

I was walking by this past Wednesday and it was a nice day outside so sushi and a fresh fruit smoothie sounded fitting. Refreshing and not too heavy. This was my first visit, but now I know that I'll be going back when I'm in the area which is a few times a month at least. I had the California Rolls and a Strawberry Banana smoothie. I was happy that they actually made my rolls fresh, (served with whipped wasabi and ginger), and not simply grabbed some prepared package and put it in a bag to move you along. (The interior is small and tight and there was a line.) My smoothie came up first and it tasted like fresh fruit, which is my preference instead of dairy products. The service was customer friendly and the prices were good. ($4.50 for the sushi.) My order didn't take long and I was on my way. The next time I will try some of the other fruits offered. (Watermelon, Mango, Coconut, Cantaloupe, Kiwi, Avocado, Peach, Honeydew, and Lychee.)

OK sushi. OK side dishes. ABYSMAL service!!! Another sushi joint in Chicago that just lost a monthly spend of well over $1000 in corporate ordering. Seriously - I sent you my pre-order 2 days early - it was over $600 - and it shows up leaving myself and 22 people hanging for lunch to begin over a half hour late??? Half-hearted apologies don't cut it when you embarrass me in front of clients, not to mention my boss. Once again I vote with my checkbook, in favor of someone else.

hmmm ..Where to start?? The first step into the place:disaster..The time you open the door -not even get in- you smell fish!!! It stinks I mean. I get that it's a place that makes fish stuff but doest it really have to smell like that??? I consoled myself about it and tried to smile and be positive. It was pretty vacant when we got there so we sat on the bars in front of the window. We ordered miso soup and and a party pack - 40 pieces of different sushi. We were just two by the way :) Anyway,we got the soup and it was just average. I can't say bad but not really good either. Then it was time for sushi!!! A complete shattered dreams;no. A yummy experience;no. So again sushi was just the average. I mean,I'm sure there are places for sushi within the same price range but with a better taste... Honestly this place might have had 3 stars but God that smell!!! It killed me.I am already not a fish person and went there as my friend loves that stuff. And the smell reminded me why I don't like fish.Even my friend had a nausea... one more thing: there were two girls sitting behind us and they were probably the most noisy people around.

I sometimes pass this place since I sometimes live at the dorm next door, but this is the first time I've eaten her. The sushi is inexpensive. Today, I ordered the sushi columbia, but they gave me the sushi roosevelt instead. I didn't notice the error until after I ate two California rolls, but they didn't mind. They still gave me my sushi columbia. Sushi Columbia comes with 5 Chicago rolls and 1 tuna, salmon, yellow tail, and white tuna nigiri. The white tuna nigiri was my favorite. Plus, it was served with miso soup. I like the seaweed part, but gave the rest to my mom. I probably should have kept the sushi roosevelt because unlike the sushi columbia, it's cooked and my mom didn't want to eat uncooked sushi. I think the Coconut smoothie taste the best. It was better than the papaya smoothie.

I don't really recall the sushi. I think it was pretty decent. But the real kicker was the lychee shake that I ordered with my sushi lunch box. The drink was filled with sugary, icy goodness. Although I felt I was floating on a sugar high for hours afterwards, I would gladly subject myself to that kind of crazed state again! It was perfect for the summer weather!

Decent inexpensive sushi. I like to think of this place as fast-food sushi. Not great but not bad either.

Pretty damn tasty, but, per the usual sushi market expectation, they're fairly expensive. I get a smoothie every time I go. Sometimes they're a bit stringy, but usually the smoothies are quite good. Would recommend.

For To-go Sushi this place is amazing, superfast and freshly made orders! I have only been here once and took my happy sushi tray to Millennium Park to chill. Great concept for people on the go. Recommended. 4 Stars.

I'm a big smoothie fan and having to taste all kinds of smoothies I was really disappointed. 1) Tapioca balls were not cooked thoroughly, therefore tasted hard 2) The fruit tasted ROTTTEN :(

My favorite sushi place in Chicago. Don't go there for a fine dining experience because they do not have many tables to sit on, but the sushi and smoothies are fantastic, fresh, and the staff are helpful if needed. They also deliver which is a great recent discovery of mine :)

love love love this place! I can't even count the number of times we have had lunch here! You get good sushi for your money and their smoothies are so darn good! Not to mention the people working are very generous with their tapioca.

Like the food here a lot. Only gave three stars because of the difficulty I have had trying to go on the website, find the menu, scroll around a PDF, and eventually order food. It's not an easy process and after signing up with two different email addresses because i decided to order online for a discount I found out they are closed Sundays. Unfortunately this has put a bad taste in my mouth for this place. Good luck, hope it goes better for you, nothing bad to say about the food though.

Osaka has great sushi, it's always fresh and practically melts in your mouth - I've been a fan for a couple of years now - but it seems as though there's less food for the price lately. Nonetheless, it's a great place to go to if you want to escape the rest of the fried food mess in the Loop. The other down side is that, as some of the other reviews have mentioned, there is no sense of urgency. It's helpful that at lunch they usually have a cooler stocked with freshly made sushi so you can grab it and go, but if you'd like something not in the cooler, be prepared to wait. On the up-side, since they expanded their location about a year ago there's actually room to eat in. Bottom line: great fresh food and smoothies but a little less bang for your buck.

Good value Japanese fast meal. Convenient location (right next to Michigan Ave and the Art Insititute). The food itself.. let's put it this way, worth the $10 for a quick bite.

This nook on the corner of Michigan & Van Buren is a great place for a quick sushi lunch. The smoothies ($3.50) are great, too!

I dig (50's beat generation term ) this place- I've read that Osaka is a sushi and smoothies place. On a hot day, I only had eyes for the smoothies. It was all fruit and very good if you, like me, like food without additives or sugar. Again, from all I could tell, all fruit. They offer a variety of common, and not so common, fruit selections .You can chose any two for one price. I got strawberry and coconut, made a good combo, for under $4. Great price for the size/quality at a loop locale. I was told adding tapioca with the fruit is a popular choice making for a unique treat- but I stuck with just the fruit. I did not try the sushi and can't comment on that. The physical layout is pretty much a carryout type format. I've seen some reviewers, on other sites, describe it as "cozy". Well. Yea, if that's a code word for small- it's really just a clean, bright, carryout with relatively inexpensive quality stuff. Bon appetite

Great place for a quick sushi run. You can buy your sushi pre-made or have one prepared on the spot. This isn't a "wait to be seated" type place but rather a "I need a pit stop before shopping next door" type place. For those that work in the South Loop this place is fresher than Tokyo lunch box and faster +cheaper than tamarind. Make sure to try their strawberry peach smoothie. They use fresh fruits and all their smoothies come with (optional) tapioca. Once again, STRAWBERRY PEACH SMOOTHIE!!!!

  • Alice L.

Sushi good, rolls big, prices cheap, bubble tea solid. Not much else to say, price point and convenience pushes it to four stars. I'd say that if some sort of plushy dining ambiance isn't important to you then this definitely is on par with, if not a better value than, many of the trendier sushi places downtown. I'd definitely come back the next time I'm in the Loop and find myself with a craving.

  • Devika S.

The sushi was alright, but the smoothies are fantastic! I like the tapioca- not too hard or chewy. I've had the papaya and mango flavor smoothies so far and both were excellent and made with fresh fruit, not pulp. This place is very bright and clean. I like that you can watch your smoothie being made. Too bad they don't have non-fruit bubble teas...

Food was okay, BUT WORST. SERVICE. EVER. I've never been a place where the servers were SO MEAN!!! 1. They forgot my edamame and acted like it was my fault. 2. One section was closed off already so rather than open it up again they expected us to stand. 3. When they were about to close they verbally jabbed at us every 30 seconds until we just left our uneaten food there and bailed for fear they would start throwing things at us. I had tried to appease them by saying very politely "we're just finishing up" but they'd have none of it. Seriously, don't go here if you expect to be treated better than a stray dog that wandered in looking for scraps. I wish I could take back the tip I had left when I paid for my meal, before they turned psycho.

My sister has been telling me about Osaka since last year but never made it to the location on Michigan Ave till the beginning of May. Stopped in there for a bubble tea....Their smoothies hit the spot & some. Made with real fruit not 10% from concentrate fruit juices. I got the mango smoothie with the fruit on top & tapioca. I will have to admit the tapioca balls were hard but that didn't stop me from enjoying my smoothie. It's fills you up like a meal ;) A week ago, I was craving for some sushi & wanted to visit a place that is reasonably priced, not to formal & not to restaurant-y since I was going solo & not too far off the CTA train stations. OsakaExpress is exactly what I had in mind. The place is not big at all. A few chair that face north onto Van Buren and a couple of tables to sit, eat your sushi and leave. Perfect for those who feel weird going to a restaurant solo. Walk in order your sushi and choose a table. They will call your receipt number & you pick it up and enjoy. The namasake nigiri (Salmon) was delicious. The pieces were thick, fresh, bright in color. The Philly Roll was excellent as well. The seaweed salad was disappointing though. Too much cucumbers not enough seaweed. They could add more dressing to it and include a lemon slice. Boo! I ordered the seaweed salad, 3 pieces of salmon nigiri & the Philly roll for $15.50. I was full and content. For being a express place, you were to think everything is rush rush and the food and service would be lacking.. but not at all here.. I saw their lunch specials & price wise and amount of sush...i wish there was an Osaka Express in Lincoln Square! It's right on Michigan Ave & Van Buren, great location, perfect to stop in for a smoothie or sushi after walking in millenium park.

This place is just what I need to satisfy my sushi crave during the work day. They are by no means a high end sushi establishment. However, their sushi always seems to be fresh. They make it there on site, made to order. They do have some items made in advance for easy lunch pick up. They also have an order online option. This way you don't stand in line or wait for your order when you get there. In addition to sushi, they have amazing fruit smooties. If anything, go there on a hot summer day just for those.

Walking north on Michigan Ave, headed towards Jamba Juice for a smoothie for the kids, decided to try this place out as I've seen it for years. Got them each a smoothie, strawberry and pineapple. They were awesome, huge and 3.50! Great deal and love that they make each one fresh to order from their wall of fruit. My fav was the pineapple...reminded me of a pina colada :) Also picked up some spicy shrimp rolls to go. 6 for 4.50 and pretty good! Will be back

When I went to school across the street from Osaka, I would often get sushi and a smoothie for lunch. An art student at the time, I really don't know how I even managed to afford it, but the food and beverages were worth it. In all of my sushi-eating experience Osaka has definitely made me the happiest. Osaka was the first place I had ever tried a caterpillar roll and I have yet to find a sushi restaurant that makes it better. They have an impressive menu and built an additional room so people can actually sit and eat. I loved the staff and they were always welcoming to the nearby college students who just needed to get a quick bite to eat. Awesome restaurant and conveniently located.

Refreshing, light, fresh ... smoothies! Osaka Express has the best smoothies in town. Period. I've never really been a fan of the smoothie. Most have a less-than-pleasing texture [never really that smooth] and the cloying cavity-creating sweetness often gave me a headache. The smoothies at Osaka Express, however, are worth celebrating: refreshing, light, fresh, real fruit replete with uniquely traditional add-ins like tapioca [probably not what you're thinking] or green jelly. The second best thing about Osaka Express is the impeccably fresh and oh so delicious and affordable sushi. This is an excellent place to pick up some sushi and take it to go; or, if you have short legs and small knees you can sit at one of approximately 6 stools in the 2 windows facing the street. Typical accompaniments include soy [in packet form ( I told you it was best "to go")], ginger and wasabi. Service is efficient and accurate [most important for take out] and even the production of a less-than-typical smoothie is done quickly if not with a bit of panache. Osaka Express really only serves the freshest and when they are out, they are out. Best bet is to take that early lunch and hoof it over to Osaka Express for the best selection. And don't forget to order a smoothie!

  • Kathy L.

5 stars for the smoothies! I had a honeydew and lychee combo. Yumm... The sushi is pretty standard for take out sushi. Some interesting combos like their Osaka Roll - eel, imitation crab, mango, avocado, and fish roe. 3 stars for the sushi, because it's fast, decent, and cheap.

    (4)
  • Mary I.

Don't like the fishy smell! =( The sushi is good, not GREAT, but descent. But when you walk in, the place has a fishy smell and I hate that so I always take it to go. Kinda pricey for a take out sushi place. I come here 2-3 times a year when I'm desperate for quick, descent sushi.

Good things come in small places! :) They have the best sushi in downtown Chicago. This is a small place with limited seating (just expanded their dining area), so during the lunch rush, ask for your food to go. A whole lot better than the half dozen Tokyo Lunch Boxes in the loop. Very fresh, great service.

This is a great place to get sushi on the run and is reasonably priced. But no student discount. We ordered: * Spicy shrimp roll - good. * Seaweed salad - ok, there was more cucumber than seaweed. * Sake (salmon) Nigiri - good. *Tamago roll - first time eating tamago (scrambled egg) and it was delicious! * Strawberry and peach smoothie - refreshing! The only thing that killed my experience at Osaka was the service - it was difficult to hear the cashier and she did not say thank you or smiled once.

Osaka has pretty good sushi and a great staff. The bubble tea is good for Chicago standards. Their non-sushi dishes are so-so. I had eel over rice and it was pretty dry/tasteless.

We ordered this last night and I had high hopes since they have such a good rating. We were told they would deliver between 45-55 minutes. Actual Delivery time: 1 hour and 45 minutes. It was such a pain since we didn't our food until almost 9:00pm. On top of that, we had been waiting to start a movie until our food came. Even when the food arrived, I would say it was mediocre at best. The specialty roll (firework) was decent, but the other regular sushi rolls (spicy scallop and spicy tuna) were meh. I'd so they were about the same as the type of sushi you get at a grocery store. Osaka Express? Not so express. and also not worth it.

  • Jia M.

I'm not a big fan of sushi, so I can't speak to that part of Osaka Express. The smoothies, however, are top notch and is the only place so far I tried that can come close to Joy Yee's for smoothies. They use fresh fruit, you can have a smoothie with one or two fruits, tapioca, mini pearls, and green jelly. I had a strawberry and mango smoothie with tapioca and fresh fruit on top. Total with tax came out to be 5.01, which was reasonable, considering this is the Loop. Service was quick and I had my smoothie in my hands in less tan 5 minutes. The smoothie was delicious. Definitely consider Osaka Express if you're craving an alternative to Jamba Juice.

Another day, another sushi review. You think we'd learn, but no, we just can't stop yabbering on about maki rolls. With that in mind, I don't want to repeat all the "I love this place" incantations, but I will say this: Osaka Express is HANDS DOWN the best quality, cheap take-out sushi in the Loop and South Loop area. Add the fruity smoothies to the mix and BINGO - the prospects of lunch in the Loop have improved tenfold.

I love, love, love this place for smoothies and edemame. I am not a sushi fan so I can't comment on their sushi. (I do notice a lot of other people eating it though!) Their smoothies use FRESH fruit, and you can ask for no added lemon sugar syrup if you want a fruit only smoothie. To me its sweet as it is so why bother jolting your pancreas into overload with added sugar syrup? Where else can you get a mango, coconut banana smoothie for under $6? They also can add tapioca, green jelly and other assorted fruits: (watermelon, strawberries, kiwi, papaya, peach, cantaloupe, even avocado, which I haven't been brave enough to try. The edamame is always fresh and snapping good. Service is quick and always served with a smile. My only complaint is that they don't have one of these near my office!

  • Ashley M.

I always go here for their awesome fruit smoothies. When I lived and worked downtown, especially in the summer, I would go here at least once a week. The fruit is always super fresh and they aren't too sweet at all. I like that you can mix ingredients together to make your very own custom smoothie. Always a must-do when I'm downtown.

  • Kathy S.

I love this place because their sushi is so fresh! My favorite thing to get there is their philly rolls...theirs are the best! This place is so good that it changed my bf at the time's view on sushi. He thought it was way overrated and never craved it until he came to Osaka. This is a great place to quickly satisfy you when you have just a small sushi craving. Their bubble teas are pretty good but too sweet for me (but the only bubble tea I like is from Joy Yee's so I'm picky).

I love this place, in spite of the fact that I was pickpocketed here last fall (at least the pickpocketer had the decency to wait for me to pay for my order before s/he stole my wallet). The sushi here is always fresh & made quickly. The smoothies (my favorite is Pineapple) are amazing. The staff works harder & more efficiently than just about any lunch place I've tried downtown. There isn't much in the way of seating here, but you can always go across the street (weather permitting) and sit outside the Art Institute.

When staying in Chicago recently, Osaka Express was a block from our hotel. Coming from a town where we have no sushi restaurants, period, my husband and I pretty much binge out when we go somewhere that does and we loved Osaka Express. Now, I won't go on record to say this was the best sushi ever but it was far, FAR from the worst. It was priced well and good for lunch. It was made fast and tasted good. We finally tried a smoothie on the last day in town. Excellent smoothies. Not something I would expect from an express sushi place.

This is a tough review...i think osaka is very solid for a lunch option..its quick and easy and the rolls are pretty fresh...the problem is there is nothing spectacular about this place..their rolls are all very simple..so for you light weight sushi lovers..i guess this is a hot spot.. what i am a fan of are the fresh smoothies they make for you. Strawberry Banana is pretty awesome..so awesome i havent tried a different one yet.. i guess i need to give some recommendations here so try out the chicago roll and the pay-roll..and the money roll is solid enough too...

  • Maureen F.

Makes for a passable lunch if you're in a hurry. Doesn't hurt that they have online ordering so you can run in and run out. I usually stick with their vegetarian choices so I can't speak for the freshness of the fish but for under 10 dollars you can have a filling, and if you choose right healthy lunch, something getting harder and harder to find in the loop.

The place it self is tiny, and usually has a line about 10 deep, so it's more of a take out to go sit at the park across the street, which is just fine. Everyone who works there is really friendly. You can order and pay online and just pick-up from the register to save time. I had the lunch combo A, which is a full tray of 3 different veggie rolls (for $4.50), and a lychee-coconut smoothie (for $3.25). The veggie combo was just the right size to be filling without making me feel heavy at all, and the smoothie was one of the best I have had anywhere, very simple and full of the real fruit flavor. I give it 5 stars for being such a high quality lunch spot for such a good price in The Loop, which is really hard to find.

Hands down, the best lunch sushi place in the Loop. Osaka is not super fancy but you get a delicious bang for your buck. Their fish is so fresh, its actually refreshing. Their rolls are delicious. Their tapioca smoothies are not too sweet and perfect on a hot day. I have never eaten in the place because it is quite small but it looks very clean and I might on a less busy day someday. You get 10% every online order. Delivery is $2.50 if you are too lazy to walk. The staff is fast, attentive and aim to please. My order is always ready on time (unlike my experience at the Protein Bar - if you have a job and are actually expected to work, you don't have time to wait 30+ minutes just to pick up your food). I'm getting hungry just writing this.

For loop lunchers, this express sushi spot is the best I've found thus far. Their online ordering made pick-up quick and easy. My order consisted of a spicy scallop roll, 4 pieces of hamachi sashimi, and edamame. ($15) Everything was tasty and well packaged.

I have been looking for this place for weeks! One of my coworkers kept coming in with bubble tea and I just asking "Where did you get that?!" I was dying to know. He said it was down Michigan. And I keep missing it. Anyway, he took me and it was just so close to the office! I've only been once - the honeydew/watermelon bubble tea. It was decently priced for being located downtown. The fruit was fresh and the drink was excellent. I will come back...and get sushi along with my drink!

I go to school nearby, just a few blocks south, and go to Osaka whenever I need cheap and easy Sushi. The rolls are fresh and their "Lunch Boxes" are rather cheap with different assortments of rolls to try from and they're available until 2pm. Their shakes are fresh and tasty, though the place so small I sometimes want to not order a shake because the blender is so loud it takes over the whole place. Only Con? There are only about six seats so take your food across the street to the park on a nice day or get here before the lunch rush.

Went for lunch and ordered the Let's Roll w/avocado & 2 kinds of tuna and the Beethoven w/salmon, mango and avocado. The rolls were ok but nothing to get excited about even though their descriptions sounded kind of exciting. Overall it just was a quick and easy place to go for lunch. However, for $22 I think I'll pass next time. Or order one of the more bland sounding lunch boxes that are cheaper. I'd also have a hard time going back to a lunch place that doesn't serve diet coke. Can't be expected to go back to work after lunch without my caffeine fix.

This place is fantastic. I go to school at Columbia right down the street, so I go here A LOT for lunch. Cheap, fresh sushi...and lots of vegetarian options since I don't like seafood. And the smoothies! Ah! I don't think I'll ever go to Jamba Juice again!

This place is amazing, I am so glad I found it. Very fresh sushi, delicious fruit smoothies made from real fruit not canned crap, as well as low prices. I wish I could come here/order from here every day. Think I'm going to place an order there now, YUM!!

This place is pretty good. I love having a sushi option for lunch! Their rolls are pretty good and their smoothies are pretty tasty. I'd definitely say I've had better and more flavorful sushi elsewhere but if you want it to go, quickly, non-sketchy, downtown, at lunch...it's a great option.

I walk by Osaka Express almost every day and find it nearly impossible not to buy a fruit smoothie. They actually have fresh fruit (imagine that) that they use for every smoothie, not just flavored sugar water. The sushi rolls have been fine, not great, and I have yet to try any nigiri sushi. Not a bad destination for a quick sushi fix, and the best for a fantastic smoothie!

For a takeout sushi place this is a really good choice. I would say the quality is less than a really nice sushi restaurant (although just as good as some of the mid priced ones) but MUCH better than grocery store sushi (yuck). I would definitely go here again as it's a perfect place for when you want to satisfy the sushi craving but don't feel like sitting in a restaurant or spending too much. I also found the staff to be very friendly. P.S. Also had a kiwi-honeydew smoothie that was delicious!

This is my absolute favorite place for great sushi in Chicago. If you like proper Nigiri and Maki rolls, this is the place to go! The fish is fridge cool and the rice is body temperature, just perfect and it just melts in your mouth. I LOVE it! The staff is also always very friendly. The only thing that could be improved is having proper plates to eat on if you dont choose take out. The paintings on the walls are beautiful, but the experience of eating in the restaurant would be better if they didnt serve their food in the typical take-out plastic boxes.

A good place for a quick sushi fix. No more than 6 counter seats in this tiny shop located near Roosevelt University, the Hilton, and the Art Institute. Surprisingly fresh and generous sushi and maki, with lots of variety! Nicely priced lunch specials M-F, and plenty of smoothie/boba options.

I was a little skeptical of this place at first when I saw the already packaged rolls on the way in, but it turned out to be really great! The sushi was delicious and very fresh, especially the egg and the sweet tofu rolls. The smoothies were excellent, and a great selection of some really unique fruits you might not find elsewhere like cantaloupe, papaya and kiwi. For any other vegetarians out there, they had a great selection of rolls that were all under $3 for six pieces. A great experience overall, fast, cheap and delicious!

I've only ever had the smoothies, but they are the best ever! Really big, made with fresh fruit right in front of you, and absolutely perfect while you're strolling around downtown Chicago on a hot summer day. I always go out of my way to go to Osaka for a smoothie when I'm downtown. They're seriously worth it. Yummmmmm.

Not crazy expensive and amazingly good sushi and smoothies for a little hole-in-the-wall lunch place. I go often and have no complaints.

I'm a big fan of smoothies. I've found this place a year ago, and walk there after my school very often. Usually get mango one...so many times that I wanna try something else, but I can hardly forget about fantastic mango smoothie.....nothing much to say...my fave place to go for delicious smoothie. I've never had their sushi yet, but my friend said it was okay.

The best (fast) sushi place in the Loop, with a nice counter that overlooks front of the Art Institute. Friendly service, really fresh and filling. A nice pick-me-up lunch if you need one!

Love this place! I always order the sushi tray b and have it delivered great sushi at a great price. Dining room is small but usually doesn't seem crowded if you want to eat there.

osaka express is there when i need to grab some sushi close to my workplace. they have great lunch specials and their vegan roll is fantastic. good people watching from the windows, too. their hours are great; i can pick up something on my way home or meet someone there for a quick dinner in the loop. they usually have a good selection of grab and go stuff during lunch hours but in the afternoon things can get a little stale. its okay, osaka, i'm not picky. as long as i don't have to go to tokyo lunch box on jackson, we're cool.

The sushi at Osaka are expensive compared to other places but they are fresh. I usually go there for their smoothies. It is just a little corner, so, it could get a little crowded during lunch time. There's probably enough seats for 6-7 people only.

Very, very good smoothie! Ok sushi. Ordered delivery, came pretty quick but did not bring my coke. Called the rest and they reimbursed my card.

This could be a semi-bias review due to hunger. Overall, this is a decent lunch sushi place. I work in the South Loop and I've been to other lunch places such as the infamous Lunch Box Tokyo which by the way I am not a fan of. Osaka Express is a tiny joint consisted of a few tables in the back and some bar seats along the front window. The front entrance could be a little crowded sometimes because of people waiting for their foods and beverages, but nothing that I couldn't manage. The staff wasn't friendly but wasn't rude either; I'm assuming it was a cultural and language barrier factor. I ordered Lunch Box K which had 4 pcs. of the dragon roll and 4 pcs. of the rainbow roll. Needless to say, LOVED IT!!! The rice was cooked just about right and the fish tasted fresh (at least no fishy taste or smell). I also ordered a pineapple smoothie which was absolutely delightful--highly recommend. I'm not sure if it was made from fresh fruit or not, but it was damn good. The wait wasn't too bad. If you're in a big rush, grab the pre-made ones, but definitely have them roll them fresh for you if you have time. Pricing wasn't outrageous perhaps even cheaper than other sushi places around there. Overall, I'll go there again without a doubt.

I stumbled upon this lil' outlet on the way to the Art Institute. Looked promising, but the food was disappointing. I ordered unagi-don, which is eel rice. I live in South-east Asia, and have visited Tokyo so I know how unagi is supposed to taste like. But the eel, which is supposed to be the main feature of the dish, came up to 5 miserable pieces. They had more avocado than eel. Which I suppose is cheaper and easier to get here. I would go back to try the sushi, but only because its cheaper than other places, and because I'm desperate for anything remotely Asian!

Fresh Sushi and exotic Smoothies to boot- Who could ask for a better midday lunch? I discovered this tiny gold mine because it is near my school. Osaka provides exquisite, fresh made-to-order sushi rolls, colorful and impressive sashimi, and a sumptuous assortment of fresh fruits from which customers can choose any two combinations to create their own smoothie. I recommend this place to anyone who is hungry in the south loop and looking for a refreshing change to the lunchtime chains like Potbelly's and Cosi.

this is the best little place for Sushi in the loop area! i come here for lunch about 2 times a week to get a reasonably cheap sushi fix. this is a small take-out place and it's usually very crowded with people waiting in line. the $12 chirashi don is my usual choice here. and the fresh smoothies are excellent for those hot summer afternoons. the quality of the sushi is acceptable -- but for Chicago it's one of the best.

Good value Japanese fast meal. Convenient location (right next to Michigan Ave and the Art Insititute). The food itself.. let's put it this way, worth the $10 for a quick bite.

  • Julie R.

  • Susan S.

  • Erika M.

    (3)
  • Maureen F.

Makes for a passable lunch if you're in a hurry. Doesn't hurt that they have online ordering so you can run in and run out. I usually stick with their vegetarian choices so I can't speak for the freshness of the fish but for under 10 dollars you can have a filling, and if you choose right healthy lunch, something getting harder and harder to find in the loop.

  • Josh S.

Wow, I just the best smoothie ever. With tax it was $3.88, and the 'regular' is pretty large. I got mango and pineapple and it was...heavenly.

Amazing.

Good Sushi for a reasonable price. Their Veggie sushi is pretty good and their seaweed salad is simply the best! Fast and attentive service makes it a good choice for lunch time here in the South Loop!

  • Shelby A.

Instead, (especially now that summer is around the corner), I'd rather grab a quick smoothie and relax in the park across the street.

osaka is close to where i live, so i order sushi here whenever i have a craving. here's the main problem - DECLINING fish quality. the rice is always a bit warm which i can accept for a fast food place...but having low grade and un-fresh fish that tastes awful is a recent development i now have to put so much wasabi on it and hope for no food poisoning that its just not good so please clean up your act, get better quality fish, and i will upgrade this rating!

Not the most exciting or tastier sushi but not bad at all specially if you get one of the trays. We got a 32 pcs one for three people and we could barely walk afterwards hahah Not the best sushi ever but decent enough for the price. The smoothies are really good.

Great place for lunch, whether for carry out in the park or back to the office. Fast, friendly service and fresh sushi - what more could you ask for? Delicious smoothies! My fave is pineapple-coconut.

Lol

    (5)
  • Kimmie R.

  • Michelle Y.

  • Sara F.

Sushi is fresh for the price you pay. My bf and I always get the platter and split it between eachother whenever we have the chance to come here and were never disappointed yet. First went to the one at UIC but I think this it's their only location now. And dare I say the smoothies are better here than a popular contender in Chinatown!

Next time, to avoid this hassle, I will be sure to let them know I'll be calling the Public Health Department.

this is my favorite sushi place to get lunch in the loop. its small, but they amount of veggie sushi is a-plenty and its freshly prepared.

I would love to give this place 5 stars, but I could only do 4. They had some of the best, fresh sushi that I have ever eaten. The best part...it's so cheap! The only thing I didn't like is that they do not have fountain drinks, only smoothies and water. Besides that, this place is delicious.

Sushis are very good and freshly made. Edamame are served cold, which is a bit disappointing, but I had a very very good experience otherwise.

Love to eat here for sushi during lunch hour. I order online and just go pick it up. The prices are very reasonable and they have great smoothies. Their lunch Combos are great!

Good Place, Hardly any space to seat tho. If you are looking for quick lunch/snack and carry it out. Perfect place.

Fresh fish and lots of it for the rice. Quick and relatively cheap, Osaka is a neighborhood gem

  • Ashley S.

    (4)
  • Christina D.

  • Mot F.

  • Christina F.

  • Angelica B.

  • Rui L.

  • Grace F.

This place is right next to my school, and have some of the best and most reasonably priced smoothies in the loop. I recommend the strawberry banana. I'm not a sushi fan, so I can't contribute on that note. Definitely a solid summer option in the south loop.

  • Miska K.

we were in Chicago for a Convention and stayed at the Congress. we needed sustenance prior to the evening activities and didn't want to pay the horrific prices for below average food that the hotel offered so we decided to give these guys a try as it was COLD (end of April and 40 degrees? not cool Chicago, not cool) (yes that pun was intended - I'm sorry, but not really) not only were they fast, they were pretty damn fresh, and the price was right and it was a hell of a lot better than pizza.

Imo this is the best sushi place in the loop, really reasonable prices. Their food is always fresh and the bubble tea is awesome. Friendly staff. My favorites are the Philadelphia, spicy tuna, and California rolls.

  • Local G.

    (3)
  • Victoria G.

Delicious sushi. Is a small place, better for take away but is worth it. Beethoven roll is my favorite.

    (5)

    (5)

    (4)

    (3)

Great smoothies and great sushi. Nothing to complain about. My mango and papaya smoothie was extremely good and my nigiri was fresh and flavorful. Great quality for the price. Try it if you're ever downtown and in need of either of these staples.

  • Caroline M.

  • Tiff T.

Good food for decent price considering it's Japanese & the location (near Grant Park). But since it is an "express", not many seating, but friend did say the bathroom was very clean . Would love to go there again.

Really good, fresh, sushi. I got the spicy tuna, yellow tail and negi hamachi (eel, avocado and mango) rolls. They were all very tasty and filling. A qucik walk from the office was nice too.

  • Janet E.

Very clean bathroom as well!

love this place. it's fast, it's clean, friendly, sushi are good and fresh. I don't like sushi they keep in the fridge , but if they make it before you- it's good. smoothies are even better than sushi!

Rice was too moist. Miso soup was bland, maybe the worst I have ever had. Restaurant in a good location and cheap though.

Perfect for what we were looking for. Reasonably priced, good fish and quick delivery to our hotel. The yellow tail maki rolls were fantastic. Great quick sushi!

Not bad. I had sushi delivered and it arrived quickly and tasted fine. The online ordering system works but it's a little wonky at first.
