We ordered a salad to go - and are you kidding me? For $8.50 I could have gotten a better salad at Burger King. The lettuce was not fresh and the salmon on my salmon Caesar salad was barely 2 oz. Very disappointing. My boyfriends salad was extremely underwhelming and I quote "boring". Needless to say, we will not be eating here again.

No, this is not Alinea (worthy of 5 stars), but for what it is, this place does a great job of offering healthy and tasty salads, soups and pizza. I consider myself a bit of a health nut (or just nuts). So, I am ashamed to say that this place has eluded my good-food-radar since it opened here about four years ago. It's only four blocks from my condo. I had (do you really care?) a salad with bibb, romaine and kale. I chose the Unlimited toppings option ($8.95) which includes one protein. On top was Black beans, Edamame, Corn, walnuts, raisins, tofu, avocado, crispy chicken, beets and mushrooms. Got the sesame dressing. (I am always envious of Yelpers that remember every morsel they ate, and now I finally have a review of exactly what I ate, after over 100 reviews.

they were out of kalamata olives so they gave me artichoke hearts as a substitute i was like *bingo!* plus those girls are so damn cute

I like this place! It's near home so I can swing by for lunch when I'm working from home. The make your own salad is great--great selection of toppings options, and they also have Kale and spinach for the salads which is not always the case at other joints. Line seems to move and staff is friendly. I'm sure we will be back!

My go-to lunch place during the week. Not sure what others have gripped about, but this place is fantastic. I always do the unlimited item salad with no protein and they are absolutely huge and the ingredients are fresh. They have a lot of different ingredients to choose from and tons of different salad dressing options, chopped or tossed, mixed in or on the side. Given that I do a make-it-yourself salad every time I go, only real requirement is good ingredients. For $10, you just can't beat a healthy and delicious meal at this place. Have also tried a few of their sandwiches and they are also pretty good. Didn't like the meatball, but all others have been good. Love this place!

Mixed Greens is quite an interesting spot. It's located in a pretty popular place but semi off the beaten path in River North. Despite it's location in prime real estate, it was shockingly empty on a Saturday night. We were the only people in the place for an entire hour. This must be the norm because one employee stood in front of us to watch TV, not even realizing we were there despite our conversation and laughing, then seemed shocked to turn around and spot us. I had an amazingly awkward time dining at Mixed Greens due to the desolation and pumping top hit music. I ordered the ham & swiss panini which came on a huge bed of lettuce. Like plain lettuce. Tons and tons of plain lettuce. My dining companion got himself a salad so he ended up taking all my plain lettuce and mixing it into his salad. It may just be me but I don't enjoy eating leaves sans anything. The ham & swiss panini was good but I'd never go out of my way to have it again. I'm not entirely sure it warranted the price tag. We left just before 8pm and they were cleaning up, putting chairs up, etc even though closing time isn't until 9pm. My suggestion is they change their hours a la Saucy Porka and just cater to the lunch time working crowd. Clearly the weekends aren't working out for Mixed Greens when it's up against so many other downtown restaurants. However if you are looking for a healthy city option that is not at all busy, you will definitely find what you're looking for in Mixed Greens.

Excellent salad and a bevy of choices for potato chips, but wow is it pricey! I tried the Caesar salad with salmon. Because I'm an absolute sucker for fish. With chips, the total came to $11.03. I guess since even McDonald's sells their salads for $7-$8 after tax this is par for the course, but: seriously, food industry, what is the deal with the 300% markup? Anyways. The ingredients were super fresh and the salad was well balanced. I loved the olives and the strong cheese. Still really expensive for a salad. I did like the Caesar dressing. Good texture, big flavors. Pretty much all I ask for in a dressing. :-) The fish was about 3 ounces, more or less. It looked a bit dry but did have herbs on it, and wasn't bland. Zapp's chips are a must-have here, if only because they weigh in at a hefty 2 ounces and they have flavors I've never seen before. I had the voodoo, which was a fantastic salty sweet turmeric-coated potato chip. They also have spicy Cajun, which I'm willing to take a run on next time. It's a good lunch option, and all things considered actually on the lesser end of lunch options in River North (where a sit-down burger will set you back $17 after tax and tip!) Still a lot of money for a salad.

This used to be our go to meal when we were ordering delivery. Over the course of a few months the quality steadily decreased. We noticed missing ingredients, and food also started to removed from the menu. We won't be continuing to order out from here regularly.

I've worked down the block for about 3 years and finally decided to come check it out. I wish I had come sooner. I had the Mexicali salad, added their chipotle steak to it. It was delicious!! Can't wait to come back and do their Unlimited topping/1protein for $8.95. All of my co workers have suggested I NOT try their paninis simply because they're so good that I won't want to go with the salads again. ha

Reason Why I Eat Here: 1. Healthiest option by my office. 2. Looks legit in terms of freshness and cleanliness. 3. Fast service. Words of wisdom: Do the build your own salad. - WHY: Because barely any of the staff knows what's in the salads on the menu. WHEN: Often receive the wrong ingredient in the salad off their menu if you don't build your own. WHAT: The comment you will hear most because it is pretty loud in there or the staff doesn't know the ingredients offered. WHERE: I come to get lunch because this place offers pretty fast service at a decent price. If they only could keep their staff consistent, this place would have potential.

Salads here are great. I go here all the time. The last time they forgot my delivery and I waited 2 hours starving but other than that they are great. Would recommend to healthy eaters.

Everything is fresh. It's good. The thing is you need to be lucky on who's making salad for you. I like to have 4 topping salad. Some times, my bowl is just half way filled. It's like a appetizer portion for lunch. Bad...

I like this place. Been here a few times and had dinner here last night. It is my go to place when I want a cheap and good salad for dinner. The ingredients have always been fresh every time that I came in and the quality and value for my money is good. Their chicken pizza was surprisingly delicious. I'm not a fan of paninis but it was well executed. They don't get five stars because of service. I actually want to give them 3 stars because of service but because I have always enjoyed my food I gave them 4 stars. I assume that their employee issues are due to poor management which can be easily fixed. The employees making the food do a good job, but the cashiers and management not so much. While the people are mostly friendly they provide poor customer service. One time I called in and asked what their soups of the day were and the lady that answered the phone said she "didn't really know, it's just the regular stuff we normally have" which to me is an immediate red flag but I didn't really want soup anyway so I let it go, I was asking for a friend but that wasn't professional. Also I came in at 8:00pm with my girlfriend one night and was turned away. The hours posted in their restaurant and online say they close at 9:00pm and I've gone in there before closer to 9 and gotten service. I mentioned this to the lady behind the cash register and she said, "Sorry we're closing at 8 today". That was irritating to say the least. I have also come into Mixed Greens and seen the staff using the facilities to make their own meals, focused more on that, while customers are waiting. This happened on a late afternoon. I came in with a couple of friends and we waited near the ingredients to be helped. A man that worked in the back and a woman that makes the salads were tending to two fryers they had set up in the back corner McGuyver like. They were frying chicken wings for themselves and laughing and talking about it. Not a big deal if I don't have to wait for service. My friend said, "I thought this was a healthy place, I didn't know you guys served chicken wings." The lady then replied that the wings were for them and not for sale. Then she asked us what we wanted. Also, pay attention when they make your salad, I like salads and different ingredients in mine, so I don't make a fuss, but I have gone in here several times, ordered a salad and the server put all kinds of different ingredients in it as if she didn't know what the salad was composed of e.g beats in the cobb salad or chickpeas in another. I like beats and chickpeas though so I didn't trip.

While the food is fresh and the salads are tasty, lately I feel it's hit-or-miss when I order online for pick-up. It's inconsistent. Half the time I am really pleased with the even & for the $ amount of toppings, but half the time I feel like they skimp on toppings. One time I picked up my salad and the container was so full the top would barely stay on; the next time the container was half-full and I only found 3 half cherry tomatoes in my salad. Two suggestions: if you have the time, order your salad in person instead of GrubHub (they make the salads better when you're present); if you ever order soup online, call them after placing your order to choose your soup or they will randomly choose one for you.

For the limited work lunch spots in River North this place is pretty good. They give you a lot of salad and toppings so it is worth the $10 you are paying. The line gets long during the noon timeframe due to the options being limited in the area.

Do not use this place for dinner delivery. I was looking to eat a healthy dinner while working late and ordered a salad from this location (not too far from work) through Seamless. Delivery estimate was 40-55 minutes. An hour and 15 minutes pass and no word. I call Mixed Greens and they tell me my salad is "on its way." Thirty more minutes and still nothing, so I call them again. They tell me my salad will be there soon and there is a lot of traffic. I ask when my salad left, and he says it left 20 minutes ago. Traffic aside, they did not even get the salad out the door until 1 hour and 20 minutes AFTER I had placed the order online. From start to finish, it was almost 2 hours to get a small salad. Worth the wait? No. Especially when they forgot the dressing (and the requested utensils), so I'm basically eating leaves. Never again.

Ordered a mushroom pizza and it was pretty boring. I think I could have made one better myself. It lacked flavor. The bread was plain and the cheese was just stringy but not tasty. The mushrooms were okay but the whole thing was nothing special. It cost $14. I'm sorry but I am from NY and even fast food pizza is cheaper and better than this place. However, I guess I should have learned my lesson...ordering pizza from a place called "Mixed Greens" it's like ordering fish at a steakhouse.

Tasty salads - you can order a signature salad or build your own. Definitely the healthiest option by my work. A little pricey (this IS River North), and not the best eat-in atmosphere, but taking it to go worked fine. I got a French salad with bleu cheese, fruit, nuts, and chicken. Very nice.

Very convenient to my office, so its unfortunate that they have started skimping on their salad portions. For the longest time this was our office's go-to place but after today and some other recent experiences by myself and others I can't say that it is. My salad today was about the size of a side salad and when I inquired about it I was told "sorry". Very disappointing experience.

Shame on me for goin' green instead of my usual starchy-buttered-cheese-laden brunch. Weekends at Mixed Greens are a no-go. Their vegetation was pleasantly expansive, looked okay but the protein seemed as if they'd been frozen leftovers from days before. I finally decided on the Sashimi Sunomono but knew better than to settle on their ahi tuna, hence switched it out for salmon. Not sure if switching the fish was an improvement, since my salmon was tough with an ever lingering eau d' freezer-burn. My stomach didn't feel right. Maybe for the weekday lunch crowd, they'll have fresher options. For this gal, I'm skipping this spot.

If I don't bring a lunch to work, I order a salad from mixed greens. The salads are made to order and always fresh. I don't do 'pre-prepared' salads because they usually suck and are filled with iceberg lettuce to fill the container. This place isn't like that. I have a soft spot for the Cobb, but I've tried a few others and haven't been let down. I've always ordered ahead through grubhub and did takeout, so I can't speak much to the ordering or eating in experience, but there is usually a good lunch crowd here and plenty of tables to grab a bite with your coworkers. Definitely worth checking out for lunch if you live or work in the area.

Typically, I really enjoy Mixed Greens. It is down the street from where I work, a healthy and accessible lunch option. The MG Guacamole is easily my favorite. BUT the last 2 times I have ordered this salad, they haven't given me the guacamole that is supposed to accompany it. They put the pita slices on top, but exclude the guacamole (which is part of the name of the salad....). I take the lunch to-go, so I never realize it in time to head back and ask for them to top the salad with guac. At this point, I'm not sure that I will be going back. I'd like to find a healthy option that doesn't continue to make the same error time and time again. Next week, I'll be getting my salad from Whole Foods down the street.

I stopped in here for lunch a week ago as I was craving a salad and wanted to try something new. I probably should have looked online, or at a paper menu, before stepping into the ordering line, as I was overwhelmed with the choices. Apparently, simply standing in line rendered me invisible, as the server started taking the order of the guy immediately behind me. As the setup was assembly-line style (think Potbelly/Chipotle) I took it upon myself to step to the back of the line, so as not to throw the configuration further out of whack. At least those extra few minutes of stewing time allowed me to solidify my choice. Not wanting to chance it with the meat, I went with the Greek salad, ordered standard off the menu. All was well until it came to selecting whether I wanted my order for here or to go. When I specified that I would be eating in, the guy proceeded to decant my salad into a large, plastic serving bowl more suited to plopping on a table to serve a family of four. Rolling of eyes ensued when I asked him to provide a take-out container. It turned out I was justified in requesting this as I did indeed have leftovers. The salad itself was fine, nothing special, and I found the pita bread provided with it to be on the stale side. For being a salad spot, the seating area at Mixed Greens could have done with a bit more lighting, as I felt it was rather dim. Perhaps with some of the food safety issues to which some of the other reviewers alluded, this is a calculated move. Now that I've satisfied my curiosity I will most likely be on to greener pastures whenever the next craving for a fresh salad hits.

Mixed Greens is great! There are so many options to choose from. I was a little skeptical with all the crazy ingredients, but the salads I've tried and the paninis I've had were fantastic. The turkey club is my favorite and the portions are huge.

It is very rare to find a healthy lunch in River North for under 10 bucks, let alone for $5.95. I eat here often and have yet to be disappointed. The staff is very friendly and they always add ingredients for me at no charge. I always get the Little Italy because I love the pasta that comes with it. My top 3 salads: 1) The Little Italy - If you like your salad with a little kick, this is the guy for you. They load this baby up with giardiniera peppers, I am not talking about the kind you find at the Jewel, but the good sweet and spicy kind that comes on the italian beefs. I find that adding extra cheese helps balance the salad out. 2) The cobb - Everybody makes a Cobb salad and most can't go wrong. If you are looking for protein, this guy has you covered with chicken, bacon and egg. If thats not enough for you, you can even get quinoa now. I usually get the asian sesame dressing as I find it leaves me feeling less full. 3) Buffalo Blue Chicken - This is my Friday salad, as this baby isn't helping beach season. Imagine those awesome chicken kickers that you can find at most wing places and now put them on a salad with some blue cheese. Yea, it is as awesome as it sounds. Definitely a place worth checking out. There was a man walking around in a suit who saw me grabbing some of the free pita bread they offer and stopped me and told me he had a fresh batch coming out soon and to wait. I was pretty taken back and impressed as most places wouldn't even bother. I asked the guy if I could make my own salad creation and have it put on the board, he laughed and said he had to do a taste test first. So guy in the sharp dressed suit, here is my salad creation, I am not sure if you have all these ingredients, but no biggie: -A romaine lettuce base -BBQ chicken, and not any of that white meat, I am talking that rotisserie chicken dark meat that just falls off the bone. -Sharp Cheddar cheese -Mozzarella cheese, yes I just hit you with 2 cheeses. -Avocados, sliced -Bacon. Yes, bacon, not bacon bits. I want some pork belly fried on the flat top and cut into some big chunks. -ranch dressing BOOM!! Let me know when the taste test is - I might require naming rights.

What's not to like about this place? Fresh ingredients and tons of choices for your own custom salad. They also have per-selected salad flavors that you can choose from. My favorite is to be able to see everything and pick the toppings that floats your boat. If you only choose 4 toppings, then it's one $5.95 and $7.95 for unlimited! It's a great deal for a custom salad. In addition to salads, they also have paninis, flatbread pizza, and daily soups to satisfy your other cravings.

So far I have enjoyed this addition to the lunch scene here in River North many times over. The line is out the door at noon and this restaurant moves it right along- trust me the wait is not as long as it looks. I am partial to the Greek Island Salad, I think it tastes great and it offers a nice reprieve from Subway salads and Galleria salads available within walking distance. The salad costs about $6 without chicken. They boast a nice looking sidewalk cafe that seems to be bustling with people at lunch time. The staff is friendly and extremely quick. Unfortunately, this space has been cursed by several restaurant failures in the recent past. Perhaps since the current owner does not pretend to pull customers at 4am from the nearby late hour clubs, he will survive because he is serving the lunch niche. Keep up the good work Mixed Greens!

I've been looking for a few good salad places close to the office. Today was my first visit. I got the warm goat cheese salad to go and enjoyed it. I took lunch late around 1pm so it sounds like I lucked out with no line.

BEWARE: FOOD POISONING! My office LOVED coming here, and I always followed along. I have never been a fan. The salad's are just eh. It's expensive for what it is. Quality is mediocre. They put way too much dressing on the steak salad, it gets slimey. Just...blah. So, I wasn't feeling very hungry, wanted something light, and had a craving for soup. Mixed Greens has soup, so once again, I followed my office to there for lunch. They had three soup options, none of which sounded pleasing to me... but whatever, I was already there. Too late to back out. I ended up going with the clam chowder. BAD IDEA. After a few hours, on my way home from work, I was hit with a wave of nausea. Stomach pains. I'll spare you the gory details. I had food poisoning. I spent the entire night over a toilet. Stay away from this place or at least for the love of god stay away from the clam chowder.

Decent place to grab a quick lunch in the area, but not a new or exciting concept. It is a giant salad bar, frankly, but the quality and variety of ingredients make it better than most. My fav part of this particular business is the incredibly long list of toppings and salad dressings. I love the combination of flavors and textures that comes with putting a fruit, nut and cheese on top of my salad so I was happy to see so many choices in each of those three categories. For this visit, I went with mixed greens and a ton of veggies, apple slices, white cheddar cheese, slivered almonds, grilled chicken with pomegranate dressing. There was a balance of sweet and savory along with creamy and crunchy, however, the chicken left a little to be desired in the fact that it was super dry and in very small chunks. Soups rotate throughout the week, and I got a cup of the tomato basil simply because it's my go-to. It was fresh and light with more of a tomato-y base than cream base, as some restaurants tend to prepare it.

Yes, there are salads. Yes, they are fresh. They could step up the non salad options. If you're like me, there's only so much lettuce I can eat as a meal. As far as salads go, the prices are just a tad too high. Tack on something addt'l to the salad and its suddenly become a pricey lunch and I'm still hungry.

So, I've been to this place several more times and feel the quality has slipped a bit. more importantly, like other reviewers, I often have some sort of stomach issue after eating here now. I'm not one to have those kinds of problems so I can only assume it has to do with some sort of cleanliness issue. Three stars still because 1) I can't prove the cleanliness issue is the source of my tummy problems 2) The workers are friendly 3) nice selection of foods. This is probably the only place I'd rate 3 stars with no intention of going back.

First off, Mixed Greens, update your website with the correct hours for your Erie location. I went to the Erie location tonight at 8:25pm and the restaurant was closed, even though the Mixed Greens website says the location is open until 9pm. When I called the store, the woman on the phone said the store is never open until 9pm. So, my conclusion is that either the Mixed Green staff decided to close early because the location doesn't get much business late at night and/or the staff wanted to get home, or the website is just wrong. I had this same problem about a year ago, and I think the person on the phone (I called because I saw staff in the restaurant) said something about summer or winter hours, which I thought was weird at the time. Also, I just tried emailing the "info" email address listed at the bottom of the Mixed Greens website, and the email instantly bounced back to me. Nice. Second, about a year ago, I was doing a random check of my credit card charges and noticed a bunch of charges from a placed called "OrganicLife". I had no idea what "OrganicLife" was, and I assumed I was getting fraudulently billed by some bogus place selling vitamins. I did a Google search and found the website for OrganicLife. About ten minutes later, I finally discovered that OrganicLife owns Mixed Greens. If you want a lesson in terrible information architecture, go to the OrganicLife website and see how long it takes you to find out that OrganicLife is the parent company of Mixed Greens. Do it with some of your friends and see who can find the information the fastest. When I called OrganicLife to tell them that they really should make it so Mixed Greens charges show up as "Mixed Greens", I was told they had heard that feedback before. When I give someone legitimate feedback or suggestions, I like to believe he or she will take action, and I did not get that feeling. Maybe OrganicLife has since made that change, but my intuition suggests otherwise. I would be able to know for sure if I could have gotten into the restaurant tonight and charged a salad. Finally, as far as my actual Mixed Greens experiences. In the roughly ten times I've been to the Erie Mixed Greens, the quality of my experience has been mixed. Sometimes the quality of the staff and my salad is great, other times both are disappointing. Many times I have felt like the Mixed Greens restaurant is kind of an afterthought. A restaurant that someone (I believe a food catering company) opened and never improved or properly managed. In fact, I'm not totally sure the Erie location actually has a manager. It's important to note that almost all of my visits to Mixed Greens visits have been at dinnertime. It's entirely possible that Mixed Greens goes way downhill at night. Given how busy the restaurant is at lunch compared to how almost entirely empty it is at night (I think the late night Erie hours are not long for this world), I'd expect most Yelp reviews to be written by people that go to Mixed Greens for Lunch. That could explain some of the disparity between my 2-star review and the 3.5 average. Overall, I find Mixed Greens to be relatively mediocre, and I have an abusive relationship the restaurant. I've been annoyed by Mixed Greens way more than I've been satisfied or thrilled, but the unlimited ingredient salads and the aged balsamic dressing have me forgetting my disappointment and coming back every couple of months.

Tasty options for salads, paninis and pizza in the River North area. I had the Parlez Vous Francais (a Signature Salad). You'll get a healthy amount of salad for the money, and it comes with an optional piece of white or wheat pita bread as well. There are at least 2-3 soups available (today had Tomato Basil and Chicken Chili). You'll find televisions and a good amount of seating inside as well. A great choice for lunch!

During class I was hit with a pang of hunger and stomach growling ensued. You can imagine how embarrassing this in a quiet room of artists alongside you drawing a nude model. I decided to step out momentarily and searched for food places nearby via GrubHub in order to pay with my PayPal account since I didn't have cash on me. My options were limited but in the end I decided on Mixed Greens and ordered a Turkey Panini and soup of the day (despite the 85 degree whether outside. That's just how I roll). I was alerted my food would be ready at 1:01 which was perfect since my class ended at 12:30. I arrived at 12:45 thinking that maybe JUST MAYBE (and hopefully) they had finished my order early. Nope nope nope. I was kept waiting until around 1:20. And when I first asked about my order I was given a bad vibe from the woman who seems to hate her job and wasn't very concerned about when I got my order. She simply told me to "wait a minute." Well I waited a minute. I waited five minutes. 15 ... 20 .... 30 ... And still no sign of my order or any indication it was on its way. It was only after another young woman came to the counter to help out the weird-vibe-lady that she asked me my name and got me my order. She apologized but by then I was already late for my next class. I decided to just sit outside and eat it there. Unfortunately my panini wasn't even worth it. Pretty lame actually. Something I could make at home. I'm unimpressed.

This is one of our go-to spots for lunch, and I like that we all can have variety from salad (warm goat cheese is unique and yummy) to the Cubano Panini (LOVE) to a decent pepperoni pizza. Sometimes we split meals too...Recently got a calzone lunch special. It contained ingredients not posted on the board and I didn't care for it. I went to the cashier/manager to complain and he promptly apologized and offered to make it again for me with the right ingredients. They didn't have exactly everything for my calzone so brought me an entire pizza AND a completed punch card so my next lunch was free on them for my inconvenience! A colleague had an issue one day waiting for her meal too long that they credited her a free meal at next visit. GREAT customer service experiences - there aren't many places I know that go above and beyond like that :)

I feel like a traitor only giving my daily M-F lunch spot only 3 stars but I am honest enough to admit that if I didn't work literally on top of this place, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. The convenience is enough to keep me returning. The ingredients are always fresh and the employees are always friendly. Their soups are good, and while the change in soup menu daily keeps things new and exciting, sometimes I crave their lobster bisque (drooling...) but they only have it a few times a month. They are honest when the avocado isn't at peak ripeness, which I always appreciate. The line moves quickly and I always feel good after eating such a healthy lunch. Great place for fresh salads and delicious soups, but in a city with so many unbelievable restaurants, it just doesn't stack up.

LOVE this concept!!! When I started going, I LOVED it. I still do, however things have started to go downhill. The management is off and things aren't running as smoothly as they were when this location opened. The ingredients aren't always as fresh. More times than not, they are missing or out of an ingredient even during their busiest times. The great things are, they have an enormous amount of ingredients and salad ideas, or you can make your own. The prices are very reasonable and you can add as many ingredients not including protein as you want with no charge. Overall an amazing place, they just need to get back to where they started and get it TOGETHER!!!

To avoid getting sick and tired of eating salads every day for lunch, you need variety, and this place has plenty of it. Other reviewers have pointed out that they tend to screw up on the menu salads and make them sorta small, but you can't go wrong with the build your own. They have just about every topping known to man. It's $9 for the BYO salad and it's plenty big when you have them pack on the unlimited toppings. Adding a protein is an extra $2, but you can add bacon bits (big chunks of real bacon) for free. And the pita bread is free. And you get free water in a nice plastic cup, not the tiny dixie cup most places give you for water. All around a solid spot.

Not sure. I work in the building and have been there twice. The first time the truffle pizza had way too much truffle oil. Now that's not the first time I've had food that had too much truffle oil, experienced that once at Lady Gregory's too. The other day got a cobb salad. My fault in some respects. It was later in the day and they didn't have any iceberg lettuce out and i agreed to a mixed greens substitution. Sort of like having a burger with two pieces of wheat bread. I'll try them again. I'm sure we can figure this out.

So happy to have another healthy, reasonably priced option in my work neighborhood. The food is fresh and appealing, and you can be as healthy or as indulgent as you want. I've had 3 "build your own" salads.... each of which was substantial for the price. Lettuce, 4 vegetable ingredients, 1 crunch, 1 cheese is $5.95; add a protein for $2 and you have the choice of chicken, salmon, grilled tuna, steak, etc. also tried their adult grilled cheese... huge, luscious, calorie bomb of course, but a nice option when you don't feel like having a salad. Don't let the line put you off; it moves FAST.

For all of my complaints about the lunch options in my labor-hood, Mixed Greens has generally been a pretty solid choice. After the former establishment serving burgers, sandwiches, pizza, soup, salad, beer and pretty much anything else you might want closed, I was a little relieved to discover a somewhat healthy replacement in its wake. They have a pretty wide selection of "greens" that you can "mix" together to form your own custom salad. Or, if you're feeling saucy/lazy like myself, try out one of the options off the menu. I'm not a huge salad guy in general (because if I made one it would end up with meat all over it and copious amounts of dressing, hence effectively ruining the idea behind a healthy salad), but they have plenty of other options to choose from. The paninis and soups are pretty solid, and they've even added a 1/2 soup, 1/2 sandwich option for people that can't commit (there's more than you think.) The couple of pizzas I've tried in the past were both pretty salty, so I'd say you're probably better off sticking to salads, sandwiches and soup (unless of course you like salty pizza, then you're definitely better off ordering salty pizza.) The whole ordering process has been and remains to be quite confusing. You never really know where you stand in line, which line you're standing in, if you're in the right place, where to go afterwards, where to wait and what your'e waiting for. But once you make it through the cluster of people, there's generally a place to pop a squat and enjoy your grub. Prices are also slightly high for a once-a-day type activity. I could see myself eating here more often with a moderate drop in price. I always feel like I paid a bit too much for "greens" that are just "mixed" up. Ok, I'll stop now.

This is exactly what a salad joint should be. A wide assortment of fresh ingredients at very reasonable prices. They don't skimp on ingredients. And they're FAST if you're trying to grab lunch in a hurry. Once you get out of the salad realm, it gets a little pricier - the sandwiches and soups are a bit more expensive. Still, compared to some of the other restaurants in the area, everything at Mixed Greens is a bargain. The staff is friendly and helpful. One of my favorites for lunch!

Mixed Greens has the best food. They have many different Panini's, which are all great. Their salads are also great. My favorites are the Salmon Caesar and the Steak Blue with Mozzarella instead of the Bleu Cheese.

This place could be great but it's not. My main gripe is that one day your salad is a decent size or even huge, and the next day it's tiny. There's some serious variation from one staffperson to the next on how much of each item they're putting in your bowl. The assortment of items and freshness are both very good, but if I'm hungry two hours after I finish eating that's a problem. I haven't tried their pizzas or paninis yet but I probably will as the descriptions look good, and that would hopefully help with the portion problem.

It's great that there is another lunch option in River North for those that work in the area. Given the affluence of the neighborhood, I was always surprised how most of the lunch options were seemingly far from healthy. A build-your-own salad place has been grossly missing and Mixed Greens fills the niche. However, that's about all Mixed Greens does--fili a hole. The food is very average (it's not hard to mess up a salad--though they manage that from time to time), however the experience--especially for a lunch place--is a complete disaster. The layout was poorly thought through as you enter down the stairs and basically into a line. The menu placement is not at all visible when standing in said line so people are constantly jumping in and out of line to read the menu. There are two signs for ordering; one for sandwiches and pizza, the other for salads, however they are basically the same station and the signs serve only to confuse. Because of the time it takes for the sandwiches and pizza to be prepared, there are always people milling about in the already constricted concourse area. The salad station is split in two, partially obstructed by a huge concrete pylon further complicating the ordering process. In the exposed kitchen you will notice many "managers" standing around looking disgruntled. I know they are managers because they are wearing cheap suits and gaudy gold rings and bracelets. Occasionally one will jump in the line mess your salad up because they have no clue what they are doing. Which brings me to another aspect: the inconsistency of the salads. There's no standard. One day you will get a lot of lettuce, another day maybe they are heavy handed with the dressing. I've had salads that have left me hungry and salads that I couldn't possibly finish. The line is long and convoluted because there is only one register, which is crazy with amount of people they are serving. "Pita" which is actually some type of wrap, is served out of a plastic grocery bag at the register. And there's no counter to put your food down on while trying to pay. Don't expect to eat inside because you will die of asphyxiation from the smoke pouring out of the pizza oven and inadequate ventilation. If you want to eat outside, get it to go so you don't have to walk all the way downstairs and push past people standing in line to return your bowl and silverware as there's no trash or repository outside or even at the top of the stairs by the entrance. If you are expecting the speed and precision of a New York-style build-your-own salad place, forget it. If you need to eat a salad to feel healthy and want to screw yourself out of your lunch hour and be frustrated, this place will do. But as for now you have little choice, though I understand Big & Little's has recently opened a salad bar which might be a better option.

This place is okay. It's a good option to grab lunch if your office is in River North, but honestly I wouldn't go here as a fun "meal out" treat. It's pretty over-priced for the quality of food. The layout for ordering/paying/waiting is poorly planned and confusing. The salads are pretty good (nothing spectacular), but the paninis are very greasy so if you're coming here as a healthy option, stay away from those. It's one of the better options for grabbing lunch in River North, but that's really only because there aren't many good lunch options in River North, and because of that alone I'll probably be back again.

I don't normally write reviews, but for this place I will. Very clearly on their salads menu, the prices are listed as $5.95 for 'vegetarian,' $7.95 'with protein'. Being a vegetarian, I ordered the 'Warm Goat Cheese Salad' and specifically asked the girl who was making my salad if that was a vegetarian salad. She replied with a yes, and asked me if I wanted to add any protein. My answer was no. Fast forward a few minutes to when I'm paying for my salad and I get charged $7.95. Upon asking the girl at the counter why it wasn't the listed $5.95, she informed me that in fact, the 'goat cheese medallion' is considered a protein. WTF? Last time I checked, 1 oz of goat cheese had about 6 oz of protein... hardly enough to completely change an item's food group from 'cheese' to 'protein'. I will say, she pointed out that on a separate section of the menu (on the 'build your own salad board") this 'goat cheese medallion' was listed under 'proteins' - but it is also listed as an included ingredient in the salad that I ordered. Deceitfully up charging for items that items are *not* protein, and are listed as included in a *vegetarian* salad isn't cool, Mixed Greens. I'll make sure I spend my additional $2.00 somewhere else next time.

It's great to have a salad joint in the neighborhood. There aren't enough good lunch spots in River North and Mixed Greens is a welcome addition. I came around noon and the line was very long. People were actually walking out, but it did move quicker than I expected. There are a ton of great salad options and they are all made fresh to order. The salads aren't cheap, but they are filling and come with a side of mediocre pita. Overall it's a great concept and I will now be getting my regular fill of salads.

I gave it five stars because for what it is, it's freaking awesome. I mean, what do you want? A quick place to grab something that's not a burger or a $9 soup or a $12 soup and sandwhich combo. I work in River North and there is nothing here. Absolutely nothing. This place might as well be a food desert. And I mean that sincerely. There's no variety, the take out lunch scene here sucks royally. There's a subway, Brett's kitchen, and dirty falafel, and that vile Galleria which I will no longer go to for reasons I won't go into on this review. And a burger joint. None of which sounds particularly appetizing - ever, especially today. So when my male coworker was like "Hey you wanna hit up the new salad joint?" I was like "uhh okay" because usually he wants to get burgers. And he knew what he was talking about. When I go for take out lunch I want wham bam thank you ma'am quick and dirty. I'm already miserable that I'm at work, I don't want to wait in line to contemplate my misery. This place is fast. And super nice (the staff as well as the actual salad bar - it looks really clean). And everything looks delicious and fresh. I got a black and blue salad (taking a walk on the wild side) and there was so much freaking steak in it that I had to ration my salad leaves and tomatoes. For $8.75 I'd say that's a good deal. There's also a seating area, but it's kind of in a basement (it's still well lit, but you know, it's a basement) so I didn't bother with that. Oh yeah! And you get some pita as you check out! I don't know if you're into that, but it's always nice to get something for free unexpectedly.

I like that it is close to my home, I like that there is a lot of seating, I like that it's a comfortable place to sit and work on my laptop but of the 3 times I have been there I have only really enjoyed my lunch 1 time. First time I went I had the southwest salad and the chicken chili. The chili was fabulous! It even inspired me to go home and make a chicken chili myself! The salad was pretty good... I like the addition of the peanut sauce. The second time I went I tried to salad with the Ahi Tuna. The tuna they serve mostly raw and seared on the edges. They leave the tuna sitting out in one of those open top coolers. It just doesn't seem right. And of course, it tasted poorly and the rest of the salad and its ingredients were lacking as well. Third time I went, I went back to the southwest salad. Unfortunately, it wasn't as good as the first time. But, its a decent salad joint. It's close to my house and I'll probably go back again if I can't think of anywhere else to go to get something healthy.

Food - fast and fresh. It's hard to win with both. I have a ton of choices. I love it! Environ - Just OK. It doesn't matter to me because I order to go. Room for Improvement - Quantity of protein. I've been heading to Hannah's Bretzel because they offer more protein. When I pay for protein at your place, I feel like I am not getting enough.

EXTREMELY disappointed with order today. Ordered from GrubHub (favorite place to order) and they completely disregarded all of our "Special Instructions". We usually eat at the other location on Lake street and absolutely love it. We decided to order from this one today and they totally messed up all our orders. All the salads they left un-mixed and gave us less than one half of a container of dressing- when each is supposed to come with two. Many of us specifically asked for chopped and they just disregarded that entirely. Then their driver forgot part of our order and had to bring it later. What a mess. Stick with the Lake street location. Disappointed.

I was so excited when this restaurant came in across the street from me (it is pretty much the only healthy, fast option in the area). However, that excitement slowly dissipated. It started when they would constantly close early and I wouldn't know until I got there. Although that was a TERRIBLE business practice, I could get over it. But then, they started taking forever to get my dinner ready and were always understaffed. Finally, during my last visit, he told us we had to take our dinner to go because they were closing in 10 minutes. I was a server for yeas, if someone comes in before you close, you wait for them! He also let the girl who was behind me order first because she was getting a salad and not a sandwich (Shame on me for wanting a panini...). I gave them tons of chances, they just suck.

This is my favorite spot in River North to grab lunch. I get to add all the protein and vegetables I need, eat until I am satisfied and feel healthy leaving. I'm not a huge lunch person because it gets me tired and slows down my day. So, it was great to see a place like Mixed Greens pop up in my neighborhood. The decor and ambiance matches everything I was looking for in a healthy salad place. There are chairs outside where you can lunch with your friends and the decor isn't over the top "green-friendly" or obnoxious. It's just a comfy, yummy, and convenient salad place that is more affordable than the regular River North salad. I highly recommend the Little Italy salad. I love the giardiniera which adds a little kick to the salad. $5.95 for a salad in River North? I'm on it!

    (5)
  • Kelly Joy P.

Definitely a welcome addition to River North - an area where lunch choices are limited. Wide variety of fresh topping choices for the "make your own salad" option. About $8.50 for a good sized salad with meat on it. The pita was a surprise perk. The staff is making an obvious effort to be efficient which is appreciated. Lots of seating - indoor and out. I could get a cheaper salad with similar toppings at Galleria, but there is something to say about it being freshly prepared and tossed. I'll definitely go back to try some pizza and paninis.

What makes this place great is it's convenience and wonderful staff. Every worker I have come across always has a smile on their face! Even though they sell a wide variety of food: flatbreads, soups, sandwiches, and salads, their food is just okay. Especially for what they price their salads at. To get the most for your money I suggest making your own salad (their signature ones are over priced and you can have them made cheaper by creating it yourself)

paid an extra $2 for chicken that "tastes like wood!" gross! and I'd stay away from the soups on days other than monday. they try to "doctor up" what doesn't sell throughout the week, and the soups become watered down or heavily creamed. also, good idea to inspect your protein and salad leaves before consuming. i've had some similar illness as mentioned by other yelpers.

Today was my first time in and I was quite happy! The place looks quite clean and the folks working were remarkably friendly. It was also quite affordable (make your own salad for $5.95 - and their delicious looking cookies only $1). They have a wealth of salad options, so it would take a long, long time before I could get sick of mixing and matching. Also, looks like plenty of seating both inside and out! Things I am enjoying about the salad that I'm currently eating? #1 - Roasted mushrooms? Totally DELISH! #2 - Avocado is perfectly ripe. #3 - The sesame dressing is divine! (I actually ordered the Shitake vinigrette, but they were out and offered me a tasting of their sesame instead, saying it's similar. So glad they did. This is even better!). I did take away a single star because the place is a bit tricky to navigate - you can't see the menu when you first walk in until you walk past the line. Can feel a bit uncomfortable your first time in. Also, I've read that the lines get crazy and confusing when you go in at lunchtime - and I imagine that is probably quite true (from the set-up of the interior). However, that's also why I take a late lunch (2:00). I like to avoid the crowds!

Well now they have been open for a while. So here is my update. The food is still just ok. I have tried the salads now and I agree the greens are good but the dressings are just "OK". Probably would not go back if it were not so convenient.

I go here often because of the proximity to my office. I love the build your own salad concept, reminiscent of the defunct, yet loved Zoom Kitchen. BYO or order from the predesigned salads. Always tasty and just the right amount of food in your order. When ordering a sandwich you can expect exactly that: a sandwich ala carte. No sides, no fruit, no chips, just a lonely sandwich. I suggest they increase the price a buck and throw in some food friends to accompany my sandwich, makes it more exciting and satisfying to any belly. You can pick up chips, cookies, soup, fountain Coca Cola products or bottled, all purchased separately, but that gets pricey for the result. Not worth it for an average weekday lunch. The staff in the kitchen is consistently friendly and helpful. The staff at check out is consistently sub par. I know you're busy, but I just left my busy job to come here, can you bother to say thank you? Sure, it's busy, but the two women who are usually manning the registers seem overwhelmed by their jobs, so much that they forget their manners. Every. Single. Time. You're in customer service, smile and say thank you. Placing my purchase into a plastic bag should not be as bothersome as you consistently make it appear. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. They are not the right representation for the business. Update your menu on the tv screens above the counter, too. The list of dressings is not current. Pizzas look delicious, but I have not tried them yet. Overall, come from the decent salads, just ignore the staff at checkout when judging your experience otherwise you wouldn't return.

This place as recently opened up and take over the spot of a local eatery, Delicious. I was excited to find this spot on my most recent trip back to my workplace in Chicago. They have a wide selection of greens and vegetables so you can make your own salad or order one of their creations. I have had the Asian salad with Chicken which is really good and I also had the Buffalo chicken salad which I enjoyed. This is a frequent lunch spot for me when I go back to work in Chicago!

My first visit was on their grand opening. I ordered the Adult Grilled Cheese. There was no salt and pepper available nor ketchup (sorry, really like ketchup or hot sauce with my grilled cheese) they did give me a complementary small bowl of soup. I thought the sandwich filling was tasty, but I only really discovered that by opening the sandwich and scraping it from in between the too-large slices of bread. It would have been a really tasty sandwich had the slices of bread been about half the thickness. All I could taste was the toast. Good toast, no doubt, but I wanted to taste the filling between the slices. I returned today to try something else - 1/2 of a grilled pesto pizza. It looked good, except I think I had 2 small cubes of chicken on each of the six slices. The pizza was just barely warmed through and the edges were not so much crispy as dried out. They had, at least, provided a shaker of salt and a shaker of pepper near their napkin station, but sadly, still no ketchup, no hot sauce, no parmesan, no pepper flakes. I know it is not set up primarily as a pizza place, but it seems to me that these would be very basics for a place serving sandwiches or pizza. I gave it two shots. There are a number of other places to eat in the area, so i don't think I will be back.

This is a perfect lunch spot in River North. Most places in the area are over priced and pretentious. Mixed Greens is the perfect (and thankfully) the exception. Phenomenal salad bar options which offer fresh ingredients and tons of choices to never get bored. Best part, it's extremely affordable ($8 for a huge salad). They also have a great menu of sandwiches and pizza if you're in the mood as well. Since I've discovered this place, I'm there atleast 3 times a week. Thank you for bring sanity to the lunch restaurant scene in River North!!

F*cking gross. If you have any sort of taste for food, you shouldn't go here. I came here 3 times-- every time to try to redeem my previous experience. A failure all 3 times. 1. Buffalo Chicken Salad The chicken was cold and rubbery. The breading was soggy. There was more like.. carrots and other things than lettuce. It was so untasty. Disgusting. I still have the taste in my mouth. It's like I ate swamp with a little bit of spicy mayo. It tasted so not fresh to me. I had very horrible lunch sorrows that day. I couldn't finish it. 2. Mushroom Pizza They don't really tell you that you can order half or full, they just give you a full sized pizza (enough probably for 2 regular sized people, or one fat person). They looked amazing in the display. I was getting excited for redemption. BUT sadly no...the pizza is dry as a desert and the toppings, kind of too salty. There was no sauce or anything to tie the ingredients + the dough together. I was eating salty cardboard ass. Also? Side note.. just because you put truffle oil on shit doesn't make it taste better or make it any fancier. In fact, it probably makes it the opposite bc a place like Mixed Greens probably serves white truffle oil which is (according to Gordon Ramsey, and I trust him) FAKE and overly pungent. Make your lips stink all day long in my opinion. So i asked for no truffle oil. I gave half my pizza away. Couldn't eat more than 1.5 pieces. The cashier girl asked me how my last experience was and I told her the buffalo chicken tasted rubbery and gross. She tried to make up for it by only charging me for the price of half the pizza so that's good. But then, she also said, yeah I never really liked that chicken, it's not so good - next time you should get the grilled chicken. In the back of my head, I was thinking....well--maybe the kitchen should fix that shitty chicken!? She was nice. That's why there's one extra star in my rating. 3. Philly Panini Give me some credit - I totes tried all the categories at this place. You FAIL on all 3 levels. BTW, you have to wait obv 5 minutes for this to come out. You'd think these 5 minutes, they'd come up with something at least average. I mean, it doesn't take much for a panini to taste good, right? Also.. it comes with chips- if you're interested in going here at all after you read this. Their chip selection is SPARSE AS HELL. I walked over to the shelf where they 'display' their chips. There was LITERALLY 5 bags of chips. What the? And only 3 kinds in the 5 bags that were left. Lunch hour had just begun, too! I also observed while checking out, people with salads got pita bread to go with it. At the cashier, there's a girl wearing a plastic glove (good job) that asks each customer if they want wheat or white and they literally serve it right out of the bag that the pita bread is shipped in. You couldn't at least put the pita bread in a serving basket or box or bowl!?! or SOMETHING? Weird. I took my panini back to work - sorry, i haven't gotten to the panini yet -- it looked ok. Comes with like 8 lettuce leaves? Mini side salad? uh. The sandwich tasted like 5 day old beef. Like they literally took the beef out of the fridge from a week ago and reheated it 3 times and possibly wiped it on the floor by accident a few times. It was gross! What the hells. It was bland and nasty. It was so sad. I didn't even get the cheese sauce that was supposed to come with it. Not that I wanted it.. cause I've had it before from another coworker's sandwich and its like.. sandy semi-solid liquid fake cheese. Ew. The owners also walk around looking pissed and angry. I would look like that if I read my review of this restaurant..but you have 4 stars right now. (WHY!??) River Northerners are so desperate to find a new lunch option around here, I understand the flocking but let's be real. This place sucks hardcore. SO HARD. Goodbye forever.

Okay so I love the idea of a salad bar - and even more so b/c its less than a black from my house. That said, they are ALWAYS out of something I want to order and they are horribly staffed. Tonight - no panini (of any kind), a couple weeks ago (and 1/2 way through making my salad) I was told they were out of the protein/meat I wanted; and another time they were out of 1/2 of the vegetables that came standard in my salad (yet I was charged for it being complete). The people they have working are not the fastest or brightest - actually they all seem kind of "stoned". So while a neighborhood salad joint is great, this one, not so much. I've decided I'm done with this place until I see the reviews on here improving. If you're in a hurry or want a seamless order - skip Mixed Greens. If you want a salad and don't care about the wait time or wait-staff, give it a whirl. For what its worth, when the food comes out and I'm finally rung up for my meal, its pretty good.

Went in for lunch today...great spot for a quick bite to eat. The steakhouse salad was really, really good. There was a ton of sliced steak and the bleu cheese and dressing were good and tangy. I didn't try them, but the pizzas looked great. Pretty sure one of them had truffles. Probably a done deal the next time it crosses my path.

Mixed Greens is better than you might expect. Though it's in a basement it's still quite bright, much better than the old tenants who were here. The sandwiches are generally good, although I prefer the salads. There are some really high quality ingredients and both great standards as well as some interesting combinations. One major complaint (that I and a friend have both had) is the pricing of the warm goat cheese salad. You might think it would be $5.99 according to the signage, but it ends up being $7.99, though still a good salad for the price. Clearer signage would solve the problem.

I go here more often than I wish I did because its a GREAT idea with really tasty food. I did however have a bad experience last time I went when the guy behind the counter literally sprinkled a half a teaspoon of all the toppings on my salad. Even when I asked for more he just looked at me and sprinkled a tiny bit more. FOr someone who has gone there more than a week straight I was really bummed. I'd recommend it still but was not a happy customer that day.

The salads are great and reasonably priced compared to other places in the area. I mean, you can pick your own ingredients, so if you don't like the salad, it's probably your own fault. The pizza on the other hand, gross. I had the ham and cheese pizza, which tasted like it was buried in salt. Not to mention the menu board makes no mention of a 1/2 order, so now I'm stuck with a ton of pizza left over. It was so salty I could only eat two pieces. Paninis are so-so. I've tried a few different kinds and none of them were great, but they weren't bad either. Soup - the butternut squash soup is AWESOME and the potato dill is pretty good as well. I'll keep going back here, but I'd recommend sticking with building your own salad or the soup.

I LOVE the Mixed Greens on Lake, near my office, where I usually go. I decided to order online today...not realizing that duh, only Erie does online orders, so of course that's where it went. I called the store and Josh asked if I was at Lake St. locale and when I said yes, he said, "Just tell them to make it for you and I've got it." WOW. THAT is great customer service! It was my mistake, and he fixed it without complaint. I'll be back again next week! (p.s.-the only reason they don't get 5 stars is that the meat has been tasting like it's been in a the cooler awhile lately- not "off" or anything, just not as fresh as the veggies. It's my only complaint.)

Stick to the salads. For sure don't order the meatball sandwich. Cheap melted cheese, some tomato flavoring, two tiny meatballs, all between two huge slices of white bread. But at least it costs $8 and took 8 minutes to cook.

Love this spot. Such a great addition to the River North hood since we don't have much to choose from and it's actually reasonable and has healthy options!

Mixed Greens is right outside of where I work, so I love going there for lunch. As a huge salad person, I'm impressed with their variation of toppings and freshness of ingredients. My boss loves soup and gets theirs at least once a week. The line moves quickly during lunch hours, and the servings sizes are plentiful (could be more on meet). TIP: Get the unlimited toppings option and you can make another salad with the leftovers.

Love this place! Always fresh salads, great cookies and warm bread. The best option is to build your own salad, and get a protein..it comes out to a great lunch for under ten dollars! I will say it's best to go there yourself, as opposed to delivery. I've never had a problem with ordering online...so i'm not sure what the other reviewers are talking about.
