When this place opened late last year it was pretty good...not great but good. Now it's like they don't even care at all anymore. I've noticed a few disturbing things: *Cooks at the burger station handling raw meat, then without changing gloves handle buns, lettuce, etc. *They ran out of ice and I let an employee know...she actually reached her hand in the top of the ice machine to feel around and see if there was more ice. She did this in front of me...with no shame...and looked me dead in the eyes and said she felt ice! WTH *They always "run out of stuff" which really means they are too lazy to take the time to look for whatever is missing or go to another station that has what they need. Only if you push them will they find the energy to go the extra mile. *The cashiers are ok but they sometimes they have a funky attitude. Never had an altercation with any of them but I just get a weird vibe like they would rather be doing anything other than helping me. And just a sidenote...if I come to the register with a crap load of stuff please don't ask me if I need a bag, isn't it obvious?! I go here occasionally if I don't feel like walking far for lunch but most times I'm disappointed and won't be spending my money on this overpriced cafeteria food :-/

A nice lunch time place at the Aon Center. A lot of variety ranging from salads and sushi to a complete hot meal and everything in between. This place is pricey compared to other places in the area but it is also very convenient if you work at the Aon Center.

As an employee in the Aon Center, I eagerly awaited the opening of Market Thyme. It opened this month, just in time for the winter months, and I couldn't be happier. I now have a diverse selection of food conveniently located an elevator ride away! Thus far, I have tried lunch there on a few occasions. The sushi bar is surprisingly good; you can select any combination of rolls by the weight. It was fresh and reasonably-priced given its freshness (if it was Jewel quality, then I could be complaining). I've also tried the stir fry, and the cooks are amazingly efficient, getting people through the line fast. All in all, a great cafe. It's not cheap but has a wide selection of cuisines (Mexican, grill, Japanese, Asian, pizza, etc) at fair prices for the convenience. A definite upgrade from the old cafeteria at Aon!

I come for the breakfast buffet and sushi bar pretty regularly, and no complaints about either one. A bit on the pricey side. Very friendly staff, from the grill cooks to the cashiers.

I won't repeat what other reviewers have said about the set-up and options available. I do eat here almost every day as there are plenty of options to choose from and don't like to spend much time at lunch. The staff, for the most part, is quite friendly and helpful. The preparation can vary greatly among the staff. Maybe they could have more consistent preparation. Given the location, I don't find the prices to be too high...by comparison I got a sandwich meal at Jimmy John's and it was nearly $11.00, so it's quite comparable. I have two wishes for this place...one is that on some things they change the menu more frequently...the hot bar and panini station offer the same items for as long as I have come here. Also, a sandwich station - beyond the paninis - would be nice. Since there are a couple other places to get sandwiches in the building, maybe this is strategic.

I'm surprised this place hasn't been shut down by the health department. Actually, it did get a "fail" when it first opened - something about not having running water. That's a pretty basic requirement. Not even a feature - a requirement. But they fixed it so I won't judge them for that. Instead, I want to share that I have never had a good experience there. Two times come to mind. Both involve the Grill Station, but they point to larger problems among the staff. The first time I went, I waited in line and then, the moment I looked at my phone the guy at the Grill Station whistled at me to get my attention. He. Whistled. I should have walked away. I ordered a club sandwich. No biggie. Bacon, lettuce, tomato, possibly onion, and chicken or turkey. He put the bread - three slices, nothing strange - in the toaster, made two piles of lettuce, tomato, and onion, and threw some chicken on the grill. At some point he gets distracted and another guy has to finish the sandwich. The second guy takes the first slice of toast and lays it on the table, takes BOTH piles of L/T/O and places them on the first slice of toast; ditto the bacon and chicken. Takes a second slice of toast and puts it on top. He looks at the third slice of toast, pauses for a moment, and (I am serious) lays it on top of the second slice. He hands me the sandwich. The second time I went, I ordered a club sandwich again. There was a new guy on the line so I thought I'd try it again. This time, I never got chicken or turkey on the sandwich. However, while he was preparing my food, the cook started handling raw chicken. He did not change his gloves after handling the chicken, and proceeded to put my food together and hand it off to me. I threw it away. If this is how they behave when I can see them, I shudder to think of what they do when no one is watching.

Most of the other reviews have given a pretty good description of what is offered, so I won't bore you by repeating it. I feel by downtown Chicago standards, the prices are average to high depending on what you order. The quality of food is okay, and if you work in Aon Center, it is the best option for variety without leaving the building. With all of that being said, you can pay the same price and go to Wildberry, (Connected by pedway in Prudential Plaza.) or Eggy's, (In Lakeshore East that is also pedway accessible.) and sit at a nice table and be waited on. The staff at Market Thyme are all very nice and they keep the dinning room very clean. In the colder months, it is nice to have something like this in your office building. If you do not work in Aon Center, there really is no reason to come here.

Perhaps few will believe this, but it's true, and I just can't keep this secret to myself. In the back of this otherwise standard, downtown corporate high rise food court (sushi stand, salad bar, Chinese buffet, Panini, pizzas, grill, etc.) is a little Mexican spot, serving up the usual Mexican fare. Nothing unusual or out of the ordinary. In fact, some of it is pretty bad (e.g., the nachos). But their tacos .... my God, the tacos. Somehow, these are as good as anything offered at Big Star. I'm not shitting you. I'm not sure how, or why, but I can say that if you get, for example, the braised pork, topped with a little bit of cilantro, onion and shredded cheese, you will find it indistinguishable from what you would get at Damen/North/Milwaukee, and without having to wait, surrounded by douche-bros, 45 minutes for a table. Maybe I've been going on lucky days. And the turnover at places like this is notoriously high, maybe one of the current workers is a savant, and the quality will drop to typical food court levels once she moves on. If that happens, I will update this review accordingly. But right now, Spring 2014, the getting is good, so experience it while you can.

I've been here a few times and I absolutely love the selection. This place is very cafeteria-ish, and their self-service area is fantastic. I've never eaten anything but the salad bar, but my dining companions have ordered from the food stations, and have gotten things like nachos (which were yummy and a huge portion!) I love the salad bar as well as the hot/cold self-service because they have so many things, and it gets switched up from day to day. They have everything from orange chicken and pad thai, to mac n'cheese and panko crusted fish. The salad bar has a fantastic selection of freshly prepared fruits and veggies, as well as a lot of pre-prepared salads (I really loved their kale salad!) The price is based upon weight, and you can get a decent meal for around $8. There is a lot of seating, but it does get very crowded during lunch hour.

BEST COOB SALAD IN CHICAGO they don' always have it but sometimes when they have it i always make sure to geti t i get the container with the 3 compartmetns and fill them all with the coob salad its soo good only thing that would make this place 5 stars is if they had coob salad every day instead of just sometimes and also if they had goat cheese for the salads. the one guy that works on the grill works really hard. my favorite part of the day is when i get asked "do you want a bag... do you want your receipt??" bc that means i'm about to chow down on market thyme (sometimes coob salad)

I had a meeting at the Chamber of Commerce in the building and this was the closest lunch option. I wanted a small order of the veg bibnbop without the omelette was charged the full price $8.50/-

I went here for a salad. The salad bar had a few decent things, but not a huge selection. The crutons were very stale and the chicken had a weird taste. If I ever return here, I'll have to try something else. I love their sister restaurant Market Creations.

This is a good addition of a workday lunch spot. It does offer more variety of items than Market Creations, though I'm not sure if both are owned by the same management are if they are competitors. My guess is that they are under the same management. Market Thyme has a buffet spread with both American and Asian items. They also have a separate sushi buffet spread that is priced by the weight of your sushi box. The selections are adequate though one concern is that the space where the sushi spread is located in the cafe, the sunlight from the ceiling above always shines directly onto the sushi. I don't think it's a great idea to let sushi sit out with sunlight on it. Other than the buffet spread, there are various "food stalls": burgers, Mexican, stir-fry, pizza, soup, Korean bibimbop rice bowl.

As folks on the Yelposphere already know, I'm a fan of the sister restaurant Market Creations in the bottom of the Prudential building- although they have been raising prices. It was while I was there one day last week that I was told about this new place. I went over today and it certainly didn't disappoint. It's so bright! It's like a cafeteria Jetsons' style. As Freddy has already mentioned there are several stations that do made to order options like Mexican, stir-fry, deli, grill. There's also a few pay-by-the-pound buffet station for sushi, hot options, and cold options- including cooked whole fresh salmon. I had the sushi today and it was good. I think the salad bar is probably better at market creations, but I will make the trek through the Aon building to come here for sure.

I used to love to go to this place for lunch, however, they cannot keep the salad bar stocked. I don't take much time for lunch and the last thing I want to do is spend 10 minutes of my time locating someone to report the missing ingredient, then wait until they go in the back find it, and replenish it. After three times of doing this, I started walking over to Market Creations. I have yet to have this happen.

This place is really nothing special when you consider the fact that Market Creations is available in the same building (technically the building next door, but they are connected). However, I am rating 5 stars for the stir fry station! The way the stir fry station works is you take an order form and fill out the meat you want (or vegetarian) and the sauce you want -- they have a mild curry, teriyaki, schezuan, etc. You choose white rice, brown rice or noodle. They give you a bowl and you load it up with whichever fresh veggies you want. There's a great variety -- mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, onion, water chestnuts, peppers, tomato, sprouts, baby corn, etc. Then you give them your bowl of veggies and order form and within minutes, you have fresh delicious stir fry with real vegetables in it. Once I discovered the stir fry bar, it was over. Lunch at work at least twice a week. Other than the stir fry, this place this place isn't all that great. It can be a little pricey and they don't sell soup or make fresh sandwiches like Market Creations. This place closes really early -- like 2 or 3, so keep that in mind.
