Great neighborhood bar! Quiet, low key with great service. Have a drink before or after dinner across the street at Rose Angelis! Good luck on parking, take a cab!

Drinks are overpriced for what you get. Service is fine but atmosphere isn't anything special. Won a free drink making class at trivia (bar promotion) and showed up to claim and the host never showed up. Bartender took our info but we never got a raincheck or email back. He seemed unconcerned. Not even a free drink on the house for not getting what we won and came down for. I'd come here to play trivia because my friends invite me, but I'm done with this place.

I came here for a friends fundraising event on a Saturday night. I was surprised it was not packed, I was there from 6 to midnight. But the space is nice, good booze, lots of seating. I will come back if I'm in the area again. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, John. Really nice guy and helpful. If you need a bar to host an event, I highly recommend Maeve! They let us hang stuff up, bring in tons of food and the packages for drinks are reasonable. Oh, and they had a microphone so we could make announcements! Summary: great neighborhood bar.

I had passed this place dozens of times on my way to Wiggly Field. I finally checked it out when they hosted an event called Fido de Mayo (back in May). People from the neighborhood came out with their pups for some cocktails and socializing. Although the dogs could not roam free (that would probably be a bit of a mess), everyone was on their best behavior. Since then I have been back several times. I love that it's dog friendly so that I don't have worry about what trouble my pooch is getting into at home. They don't have food, but plenty of menus and places that will deliver. Service is fast and friendly. I'll definitely be back with and without my pup!

They try hard. Dedicated bartender(s).They get themselves out there hosting promotions, mega dog friendly etc. Unfortunately it's tiny, in a small boxy way, not in a good way a la the Matchbox. Thus there is zero separation from the events being hosted in the "back" of the bar. Feels not just confining but dull. Apparently used to be either a bar or a bank due to the corner entrance, which the City should outlaw due to the treacherous steps in every one. The beer menu is one to be missed. Also don't see the connection between the name as I saw nothing in there playing it up. No reason to go here.

Just came back from this place in hopes of those $5 martini Tuesday's everyone talked about on here. Also heard they did half off bottles of wine for the Tuesday special. They don't do that special anymore. Actually, we asked for any specials and they didn't have any... they didn't have a drink menu... but the good news is, the bartender told us they're updating their specials/drink menu/wine list. It was just odd. There's room for improvement here. Dogs okay...woof.

I felt at home when I came here a few nights ago. This is a good place to go to if you find yourself not going out with your college buddies or buddettes from Depaul trying to find $2 PBR's good to see some places have grown up

Cool neighborhood bar. Nice wooden paneling. Few TVs for watching sports. Live music on the Friday night I was there. Drink prices were reasonable (glass of wine, pint of beer, soda drink for under $20). They also allow dogs which is a nice touch! Will come back for a pint or cocktail.

Went there to see a band and told they were not playing since they were double booked even though I call to confirm Earlier in the day. Apparently looking at calendar is too difficult. Will never go back

I've passed by many times pondering the sign. Maeve: she who intoxicates. But wait, there's more: "Of the great female figures of Ireland, Maeve was probably the most splendid. Originally a goddess of the land's sovereignty...she was demoted in myth...to a mere mortal queen. But no mortal queen could have been like this one, this "intoxication" or "drunken woman", who ran faster than horses, slept with innumerable kings whom she then discarded, and wore live birds and animals across her shoulders and arms." (source: hranajanto.com/goddessga… ) Interesting, eh? Well turns out the bar Maeve is a lot smaller than the legend. Just a plum little space tucked away in a neighborhood, amongst trees. And sidewalks. It was quiet in there on a Monday night, but that suited our group of four just fine. $3 pints (and I mean ALL pints, yay!) and cocktail specials. Great spot for a nightcap after dinner... that corner is made for cozying!

Meh-ve. I didn't hate Maeve. They're a dog friendly bar and the waitress and bartender were top notch! Everything else about Maeve was prettying boring. Maeve is a "Bar 1" bar. Have you been to Redmond's, McGee's, Duffy's, Wrightwood Tap, or Durkin's? It's like that. Except without Captain Morgan. At least they were out on the day that I went, which I found to be quite odd.

Nice date place. Good service! I need to take my man on a date! I need a drink! See u soon Maeve! :)

Best bar in Lincoln Park and not just because it was a block from my old house. Good drinks and a nice, professional (non-DePaul undergrad) crowd. Can get packed on weekends, but I've always gotten good service.

Spencer (my dog) and I go here all the time. Cheers to Josh, the bartender who always says "cheers" and Hi to Amy. This is a Redskins bar during football season. Great for my DC/MD/VA folks out there. I love this place because it's DOG FRIENDLY. They make really good martinis. Especially that chocolate one- and I don't really drink vodka, but I make a habit of ordering it here . They also make a mean vodka soda for one of my friends. They do not serve food here. So. . .bring some with you or order some from TAVISH, it's right across the street. I tend not to frequent this place on the weekends as I have seen it get pretty crowded and it's not that big of a space. Here's the NITTY GRITTY oMbIoUns= small spot, GREAT VIBE. Did I mention DOG FRIENDLY!!!!! pRiCe= Reasonable. They POUR GOOD drinks and they do have specials. sTaFf= They have always been GREAT. fOOd= GET SOME FROM TAVISH, they don't have a kitchen. **Side notes- They parking can be a challenge, walk or take a cab. HAPPY DRINKING, Cycette

The company I work for does a lot of classes at Maeve, so I'm there more frequently than I should be, given the distance this bar is from my apartment. I love the atmosphere of Maeve, dark and woody, it reminds me a lot of a bar I used to bartend at in New Orleans. The bartenders are always quick and friendly, the manager (Lindsey) is super outgoing and a pleasure to talk to (if you can get her to stand still for a minute, girlfriend is Busy with a capital B!) Plus they are dog friendly. LOVE IT! They have great drink specials, for example - Sunday's they have a special on half-bottles of wine. Super expensive wine sold super cheap = SCORE! I only wish they were closer to me so that I could spend recreational time at Maeve, as it's my kind of bar.

The service is amazing. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced. A quiet and cozy atmosphere creates a good night out with your special someone. Definitely somewhere I will return to.

Been here many times... great wine selection and they give you a nice pour! It's always busy and the staff is great! Seems to have a little older crowd as well which is nice for the area. Dark and Upscale on the inside/Watch for Squirrels!! GTFJD

I came to Maeve for the first time on the Turkey Trolley Trot. This is a small and cozy location. I would definitely list Maeve on the top of my list for party places, great place to host a birthday or office party.

I likes! We arrived on $5 Martini Night.....a long stoooopid day at work had my eyes light up with that special! I needed something stronger than my traditional winter treat: Guiness! I love the fact that they have both Guiness and Smitticks on tap. BlackSmiths have fun in my tummy as well..... Twas a little hungry, so I was given a binder full of menus from the restaurants around the area. Tavish was the winner! Their sliders were a beautiful compliment to my Manhattan Rox. Greazy Potato Bun sliders....my cloggin arteries thank you, and made me wish I ordered 3 more orders!! Cool little corner bar that is kinda sorta walking distance from chez Emmer E. I'll be back....oh yes I will...

Headline: Impressed!; Try "the Maeve" I've been holding a Living Social coupon for Maeve for nearly a year--what a mistake it was to wait so long! Maeve it a little out of the way for me so it took some urgency (coupon was going to expire), but I'm so glad I finally made it. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our visit so much that we may return despite it being a little bit of a trek for us. Maeve is cozy little neighborhood bar in western Lincoln Park. I love this part of the neighborhood and my experience here makes me want to move to the area! I felt so comfortable hanging out at one of the small tables with an open window, and our waitress was really nice and very helpful with our martini selection. As far as the martinis go, they were $10 each which isn't bad (I was expecting $12 a piece so I was please when the bill arrived. Between my girlfriend and I we had 5 martinis and I must say that you should try "the Maeve," it's a pomegranate delight. On the other end we tried the Raspberry Truffle which turned out to be a bit too bitter for our tastes. Anyway, check out Maeve, it's definitely a good place to take a date as it's fairly unassuming yet classy at the same time. The music is kept at a level where it's not quiet but not so loud that you can't converse with your friends. Thumbs up!

    (5)
  • Caroline A.

At first I thought I was going into a college bar, but the scene is more of a 30's-40's crowd. It was loud and crowded, and I was screaming over the music to catch up with friends. The design of the place is cozy and warm. Cheap drinks.

  • Ted C.

I am somewhat on the fence to rate this place. I've been here a few times and though it's a 'wine bar,' I've only had beer there so it's obviously not quite so high brow that it's only red and whites. It is a dog bar but that's because they don't have a kitchen-from what I've been told by some locals Maeve is a de facto waiting area for the Italian restaurant across the street. The place is either packed or dead. When it's dead it seems like a place where the older crowd hangs out. Vibe wise it's not that bad, it's a fairly laid back, like I said, typically older crowd but you get a mixed bag at times. College kids, older professionals all in groups so you should at least come with a +1 if you're not the outgoing type, not a bad place.

    (3)
  • Linda G.

We like to stop here on dog walks for a quickie and they let the dog come in. It's a good bar. Sometimes we have to educate the bartenders on mixology - they don't seem to mind.

    (4)
  • Aaron W.

Great place to go and chill out. They even let dogs in! Only problem is it gets crowded on weekends with college or just out of college kids, but can't fault a place for being crowed when they deserve to be. I also wish they served food

    (4)
  • Afton A.

This bar is in my neighborhood and it's a nice little hidden spot. Has a very cozy atmosphere and drinks are decently priced. They also have great specials throughout the week. They don't offer food though so if you're looking for food and drink, this is not the place. However, you can order food and have it delivered! They play great music and there is never a line to get in, nor is it every overly crowded. Also a plus - being how Chicago is a "dog friendly city" you can bring your dog in if it's before 8 or so.

I just had my birthday party at Maeve last night, and it was great for a while. I heard from other people that the service was pretty rude all night but in light of the fact that they scheduled my party and another birthday party on the same night I feel like they were just overextended. Still, I have to give only one star to this bar because I was lied to. I reserved tables and was told I had to meet the minimum of 15 people getting the drink package and they would refund the price of my wristband. If I had under 15 including myself, I had to pay the difference. I had about 40 people come to the party, but exactly 15 (not including myself) were the only ones to purchase the package. When I asked, the waitress told me that I didn't have enough to have my money refunded and that I could go talk to the bartender if I wanted. In fact, she said that I was one under but they weren't going to charge me (as if they were being nice)! I was going to tip the waitress the $30, which I told her when I asked her to find out I met this minimum. Because of this, I didn't feel a need to argue with the bartender about how many people purchased the package, and I told her so. I mean, why would I want to argue with someone on my birthday over money that I had already written off. I did tip the waitress $20, but she still didn't come back to the table any more after that. I'm not sure if she was pissed I didn't just cough up the promised $30 anyways, or if she was just tired of working by then. I have heard good things about this bar in general, I think they had a hard time with all the people. I can't say I'd ever go again for any reason because they are full of crap, but I especially recommend holding your birthday party elsewhere! :)

Stopped in solo because I heard this was a redskins bar. It was the off-season so none of the team gear was up. Julie (?) was my amazing bartender. Polite, funny and knowledgeable. Pretty much what every bartender should be. The 5*'s not only goes to the bar, but also the people of Chicago. I walked in alone and left with two new friends who happened to be there to hang out with Julie. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. It's a stark contrast to where I'm from. Bravo Maeve!!

I think the guards felt a little sorry for me during my unjust and unwarranted incarceration at the holiday, so they decided to let me out on the so-called Biggest Party Night of the Year so that I could partake in the Turkey Trot Pub Crawl. I don't know if I consider myself lucky or not, considering this event kind of is the lesser of several evils from which to choose entertainment wise on this evening, but I'm still grateful to the guards for the thought. They, like Jack, certainly can handle the truth. It must come with the territory at Guantanamo. So off came the shackles, and my two trusty Marine guards and I surreptitiously sneaked out of the base and jetted to Maeve to kick off the crawl. The Turkey Trot is the sort of crawl where you can start at any of six bars (with common ownership, natch) and then leave whenever the next trolley is ready to go. The crawl stretches from Maeve to Redmonds and then all the way over to Duffy's. We've only ever gone to three of the six bars on this crawl: Maeve, Redmond's and Wrightwood Tap. Maeve is a rather small, woody pub, with seating at the bar and at tables in the back. It's charming. It would make for an excellent local pub if I lived in the neighborhood, but I don't. I just wouldn't call it a destination. At the latest visit, on the crawl, the deal was $20 for all you can drink swill from 8-11 p.m. When I say "swill," I'm not kidding. First, they were serving exclusively Bud Select. Yuck! Then, later on, after that old keg of Bud Select ran out, they started serving a concoction of bottom of the barrel swill. We all agreed it did not have any "drinkability" (ha!) whatsoever. It tasted like one of those pop drinks you made as a kid by mixing six kinds of pop. We called it a "suicide" back then. Well, drinking one of these concoctions served at Maeve probably would have led to the Jonestown Massacre. Blech. We left at that point. Do you really think you can get away with that, Maeve? You deserve an all expenses paid vacation with KSM at Gitmo for that one. There was another problem with the service at Maeve. They were showing the Bulls game, which is fine, but I figured they could at least put the Hawks game on one television because the bandwagoners were clamoring for it ever so much (just kidding, they weren't). Well, the bartender wouldn't switch on the Hawks game for me. She asked me, "Aren't they on the East Coast tonight?" Uh, no, they're on the West Coast, and the game just started. You lost more points right there, Maeve. The other noticeable thing was the bathroom situation. They have a toilet and one urinal in the men's room, so you'd think it would be available for a two-boy pee. That's not the case. It's a one man jobber. Why? It's because the urinal is about two feet from the toilet and on the right side, so if you pee into the toilet, you're standing right where someone who would be able to use the urinal simultaneously would be standing, rendering the urinal useless. This made for lines to the bathroom. Someone wasn't thinking when they designed this bathroom. Maeve is okay overall. I'd like it more if I lived around the corner. It's 2 1/2 stars.

I am a fan of this place. The servers are always nice.....The wine is good and usually the crowd is fun......It's missing something and I can't put my finger on it but it does the job

The BF and I stopped into Maeve on a lark when we out tooling around on the bikes on Sunday afternoon. We we're the only people in there, but it was great. We split a fantastic bottle of wine (half price) and had a great chat with the bartender Julie. We're "on the other side of the tracks" in Logan Square, but we will be back for sure. And no, we don't drive BMWs or Mercedes, and we're not Redskins fans (although, maybe now...). And if you're a single (and worthy, non-douche bag) guy, Julie is the one you want to bring to your company BBQ this summer to impress the boss. I wish I had a single brother to set her up with, 'cause this girl is awesome (and she works Friday nights and Sunday days - FYI).

Maeve is somewhat tucked away in a residential area in Lincoln Park, and I think that's part of it's charm. You have to seek this place out or live in the area to make an appearance. Although I've been here on a Saturday night and the crowd is lively, there will never be a line to get in or too jam-packed to move around. The patrons are usually in their late 20's-early 30's, which is a nice change of pace in the neighborhood full of just-out-of-college residents. Typically it seems that people go here in groups, as opposed to pairs...another fun feature of the bar, so be ready to mingle and make new friends. This is also a good option for grabbing a drink or making a stop before dinner plans. During the evenings you can always find a place to sit and the bartenders are real friendly without trying to interject themselves into your conversation. I should give you a pleasant warning: their martini's are STRONG, as in I was stumbling home after one.

Fairweather Redskins fans? Came for Skins vs. Ravens - sure it's pre-season and it doesn't mean anything at all, but hey, it's there to get us pumped for the season and we get to see how our boys are going to do in the reg. season. So why then was I the ONLY person in a jersey and one of the - oh i'd say - 8 people total in the bar claiming to be Redskins Chicago HQ? Disappointment.

a friend of mine lives right down the street from maeve...so now and then we will grab a drink to start our nights here. the crowd is a little older and quite random..but it really is a nice and cozy neighborhood establishment. it's a little off the beaten path, which makes it less crowded...and in a quiet area. overall, its a great sit, catch up and chat place. i could also imagine meeting a date for drinks here as the people watching is pretty...interesting. i have one issue- mostly just of personal confusion w/maeve. i think its really weird that maeve is masquerading as a redskins bar...as it seems to be a more upscale type of place...so im just having a difficult time imagining drunken redskins fans screaming and cheering. anyone else? the reason it gets 3 stars is because it simply didnt blow me away. its a nice choice for a drink or 2, but not a place id envision myself staying all evening.

When you walk into a bar, you normally expect a large man blocking the door way - as if he is the key to enter this magical wonderland. Years of experience have built an unconscious habit of automatically reaching for my wallet to get out my ID. This process takes only a moment - but that glance down, the hesitation of visualizing the grab for my wallet (a temporary blackout), a reach for the door handle, and the anticipation of entering an unfamiliar bar left me in a state of temporary dumbness..... I open the door, not to slow - not to fast, I want to act normal - but the next second still makes my heart pound, and my palms sweat.... This very well could be the biggest, meanest, badest looking Bull Mastif I have ever seen. He's sitting as the guard to this palace of courage (or depression) and startles me with enough surprise that the entire bar notices and glances my direction - as if they were anticipating such a reaction. To my surprise, there is no bouncer, there is not sudden attack from this deadly beast, but instead a nice rub and sniff of the hand. We later became friends, and spent a few memorable moments together - I scratched him and he got fur all over me, it was great. Anywho - The bar was actually a lot of fun! The bartenders were very nice, personable, and friendly. I felt like a regular and welcomed immediately. If I didn't live so far away, I would certainly make this place a common drinking hole. Good drinks, good prices, nice little atmosphere.

My good friend lives a few blocks from Maeve, so it was the bar of choice for some drinks for my friends and I on a chilly December night. Disclaimer: my visit to Maeve was on a week night. On this night, I was smitten with Maeve for several reasons. 1) I love the name Maeve. It is sweet and Irishy and I am in love with most things Irish (my husband being the main thing). 2) There were only a handful of people at the bar when we arrived. This allowed the very nice bartendress to take great care of us. The bar itself is relatively small, so I assume that they pack the LP'ers in on the weekends. 3) The bar itself is really handsome, all dark wood and clean lines and glowing tealights and stuff. And, they had recently added some holiday greenery/garland, which helped the place to feel and smell all festive. Since it's all dark wood and coziness, I think Maeve would make a great winter week night date spot. 4) They allow dogs in the bar. This in and of itself is cool, because animals are friends of mine. But, there happened to be a really big dog roaming around while we were there. Again, wouldn't have been as cool if the bar had been packed. But, I'm a sucker for the big, sweet pups. 5) The drinks! I ordered one of the holiday martinis with creme de menthe and creme de cacao and whatnot. Now, being from Wisconsin, I did learn to drink at a very early age. My Dad used to make "Grasshoppers" for the grown ups and he always let my brother and I have a glass. So, this drink not only took me back to my childhood, but it also made me feel extra festive. Nostalgia in a glass! 6) Not until we got the check did we realize that martinis were on special for $5 on Tuesdays. Damn. I totally would have had 2 more if I had known. I would return on a Tuesday night for that reason alone. So, I have to suggest you check out Maeve on a week night to experience the ambience that I did (bring your dog, your lady, your friends, or your Dad).

Maeve is my favorite neighborhood bar in the city. Thanks to it's laid back atmosphere, dark wood decor, friendly staff and tasty wine list I continue to go back. They also have fantastic weekday specials and allow you to order food in from neighboring restaurants. I have hosted a few birthday parties here over the years and have been very pleased with the service and outcome. I have been able to secure the back section of the bar, and bring in cupcakes and decorations to make the event special. 5 Stars in my book.

This is a cool and calm place to enjoy a well-made cocktail, decent beers on tap, or glass of wine from a very decent selection. The service is pleasant and attentive. They have some TVs that seem a bit out of place for the decor, but it can be a great place to watch a game if you don't want to deal with loud Miller Lite-swilling frat boys. The Redskin's complaint I don't get. I don't understand how that negates the selection and quality of drinks, cleanliness, service and overall atmosphere. But to each their own.

I love Maeve. Great Neighborhood bar with a wonderful owner. Tif always keeps things interesting. Even though I know I am always the oldest guy in the place it's a lot of fun. Great wine list. Sunday the 13th all the Redskin fans in Chicago were there

Stopped in with some great gals on a Monday night. The bartender let us watch The Bachelorette, and the drafts were $3. Love it. Halfway through the show I realize that the bartender (and the couple of lone guys at the bar) and totally watching and commenting on the action. Good times were had by all. Thanks Maeve!

The sign reads "Maeve: She Who Intoxicates". What the hell does that mean? Who is she intoxicating? Must be the Beamer/Benz set because my ass couldn't afford to get intoxicated there. Typical Lincoln Park joint. It's the where the Barleycorn crowd graduates to after puking in the alley becomes passe. Bah. I don't think I will be back.

    (2)
  • Nicole V.

I've been to Maeve a few times. Typically you will find an older crowd (late twenties to thirties) which is great in my book. The DJ usually plays good music, a blend of current hits and stuff from the 90's. What makes Maeve a challenge...is the space. It tends to get really crowded on the weekend and then becomes less comfortable. If you are there early enough to get a table this isn't really an issue as they have a waitress. The main reason I go to Maeve is the atmosphere, I always find people having a good time.

    (4)
  • YerMah L.

Eh. That's how I feel. It was an young/older crowd... meaning they were all married to each other, and lived down the street and walked over. The martinis were nice and strong ...as were the lines by the few single and some married men in there. My friends and I were obviously not the regulars/neighbors, so we walked in and immediately were honed in on. The music was a bit loud. And I'm a bit more blunt than my friends, so when I told men to leave, go away, my balls were bigger, etc. I was accused of being a hater, and bitch...and the word spread quickly. Oh, I love it. I do look sweet and approachable though. The music is a bit loud in there too. The weird thing is, my friends and I want to bring a pile of our girlfriends in and tear the place up one night. I guess it's a love-hate thing. Oh yeah, the door guy was really hot.

Tucked away in Lincoln Park, I found a great spot for a night of drinking with friends. The set up of Maeve is open and appealing. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The drinks were good and the price was on-par with Lincoln Park. The name is kind of weird, and the story behind it is pretty dumb/cheesy. I would definitely go back if I was in the area though. Good spot.

    (3)
  • Sarah O.

Cute Lincoln Park spot! Wed has half price bottles of wine and Tuesday's boast $5 martinis (of which there is a good selection and are mixed nice and strong). The bar is small, cozy and usually doesn't get too crowded (at least on week nights). Music is usually at a reasonable level and generally the other patrons seem to be pretty calm and relaxed. I've never had to struggle to have a conversation (i.e. felt as if my voice was competing with other bar noise) and have actually made this one of my go-to girl's night spots. Dogs are allowed which could be good or bad depending on how you feel about dogs. The crowd is a little older than the average college student and does seem to be a lot of people from the immediate neighborhood. Definitely not a singles spot. Again, I've never been here on a weekend night but I can't imagine it gets too crowded given its somewhat obscure location. The Italian place across the street is also supposed to be good.

I have to echo Eric P's sentiments below. Huge Redskins fan and this place surprised the hell out of me. To let you know just how awesome this place is I need to tell you about last Thursday night, the NFL opener between the Skins and the G-men (suck)... I show up at 5:45 and order a beer, give my card to the bartender to start a tab and she says, "hold onto it until 7:30 when the OPEN BAR is over."!!! Holy balls. I didn't pay a cover and it was open bar for 2 HOURS. And this wasn't limited to domestics and well liquor. You could order whatever you wanted from the full bar. If that wasn't enough, when the open bar ended the owner ordered about 20 pizzas for the entire bar full of drunk Skins fans! I was wasted and full and didn't have to pay a dime (other than tips). Fantastic bar with fantastic staff! Today it was even better b/c the Skins looked somewhat decent.

The bar has a nice look to it. I really appreciate the side tables with the coat hooks on the wall. Nice touch. That's about it. The rest of it can go. Actually the waitstaff seemed nice. But the music and crowd is not my scene. Typical for the area.

Generic. Expensive. Full of women getting smashed on expensive cocktails whose voices get more and more screeching and projected as they down more and more expensive cocktails. The bartenders are also kinda smirky. Yawn

This place kinda bites. The barstools don't have backs on them, so it gets uncomfortable pretty quick. I can't think of one good reason to go here.

I love this bar. Every time I've been, the drinks have been awesome. They know how to pour well and shake an awesome martini. On Saturday nights they've got music playing and if you're in the mood, dance, no one cares. If sports are your thing, they have tons of flat screens with whatever game is on. If you want to chat with your friends, you can do that too. This place is great!

Maeve reminds me of the color Mauve. Bland, boring - eh. I don't wear mauve, um ever and I don't visit Maeve anymore either. I have been a couple of times for drinks and the crowd is a little too old for me. Martinis are a-plenty as are people looking for love- or-er you know, a guy with a fat wallet. There are much better bars in this area.

Nice cozy neighborhood bar! I have hosted two events here and they both turned out great. They have a good wine list and a number of local beers, as well as live music on certain nights. I will continue to be a regular visitor and this great spot!

I give this place 4 stars for ambiance and 2 stars for the bartenders and bar-backs. It's odd to find bartenders who take away your empty drink glasses and don't ask you if you want another one. But the weird part was the taller blonde took away my Grey Goose and tonic with 1" left of the drink in the glass. When I asked her if she took my drink she snapped, "Well, it was empty." I said, "No, it wasn't." She rolled her eyes and gave me another one at no charge. But who cares about that? Who wants to deal with shitty barstaff? It's a damn shame because it's a great neighborhood bar. The bartenders need an attitude adjustment.

MuthaFu**** Redskins bar in the heart of Lincoln Park bitches!!! Usually I don't write ridiculous reviews like this but fuckit. It's a REDSKINS BAR IN CHICAGO!!! I'm a huge 'skins fan as I grew up in DC. The beers (we were drinking coor's light) were like $4 which is a bit much but who the fuck cares. It's a REDSKINS BAR IN CHICAGO!!! Go when the 'skins are playing and feel the DC love spray all over your face.

Never knew this place existed. This review is a bit biased...I am a HUGE redskins fan and have lived in Chicago for 3.5 years now. I could never find a Redskins bar...crazy in a city the size of Chicago right? Well, in comes Maeve. They are the go to place to watch the Washington Redskins. It feels like you are in Georgetown or Northern Va. Everyone is dressed up in Skins gear and singing Hail to the Redskins on all touchdowns. LOVELY!

Great place to bring a date on a week day night. Girls love the look of the bar and its comfortable and there's usually always a place to sit away from the bar where you can have a nice conversation. Its a great local neighborhood bar and the staff is always friendly. Weekends can get really packed because its a smaller bar.

Stopped in last night for a couple of glasses of wine. Wednesday 1/2 price bottles, wine list is pretty limited. The service was somewhat slow, not too attentive. But I really like the atmosphere of this place and the DOGS!! It wasn't too crowded, 3 of us didn't have a problem finding stools at the bar. I will definitely come back again.

Had it not been for wandering accidentally into Maeve two summers ago, I never would have discovered Effen Black Cherry Vodka.

My friends and I went to dinner across the street and asked for bar recommendations - they pointed us across the street to Maeve. They have a yummy (and strong) martini menu. My orange sherbet and my friend's cherry bon bon tasted were sweet alcoholic desserts. Apparently this is a "pick up" bar - and we ended up talking to some chicago locals. Minus a star for strong air (it was so cold inside!) and not enough bathrooms.

people generally come here and have drinks while they wait for a table at rose angelis. my friend works here and loves it, so i feel bad giving it only 2 stars, but whatever. it's not the worst place i've ever been, but definitely not the best. the martini's are delicious though and the music is generally not too annoying. it is very comfortable inside, the decor and set up of the tables and whatnot. i like to come here for a low-key night. dogs are welcome and the crowd is usually a mix of people dressed up for dinner and those who just got done playing softball. so it is a nice place to chill, they just don't have food and the drinks are pricey.

    (2)
  • Furry P.

The decor in this bar is one of its finer qualities - nice rich mahogany wood walls, with one of those ornate tin ceilings and a pretty antique looking bar. Gobs of flat screens are mounted and easy to see from every spot. Nice wine list and really nice martini selection; however, better bring a few extra dinero as you're going to pay $9 for a 3.0 ounce pour of wine (they measure...for real). Would like to see a few more drink specials and let the bartenders throw in an extra splash now an again!

This place was fine. I went here Saturday night for a little bit. A slightly older crowd for me. Meaning people in their 30s. Lots of wine drinkers. It's a pretty small place but the mirrors make it look a lot bigger than it really is. Not really my style. But the other people there seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I entered Maeve on a Saturday night and witnessed something horrifying - the owner was BERATING a waitress. I couldn't believe my eyes. She was belching her own insecurites at the cute college-aged girl. The tidal forces of the leather-faced corner dweller's verbal diarrhea washed over the entire bar. It was horrifying and I won't be back.

Maeve is a great neighborhood bar with class. A beautiful wood bar, a great wine list and friendly staff make it one of my favorites. It can get crowded with 20 somethings on weekend nights, but otherwise it's a 30+ crowd which is hard to find. Check it out!

  • Kate K.

Thumbs up!

  • Caroline A.

At first I thought I was going into a college bar, but the scene is more of a 30's-40's crowd. It was loud and crowded, and I was screaming over the music to catch up with friends. The design of the place is cozy and warm. Cheap drinks.

Best bar in Lincoln Park and not just because it was a block from my old house. Good drinks and a nice, professional (non-DePaul undergrad) crowd. Can get packed on weekends, but I've always gotten good service.

  • YerMah L.

Good spot.

  • Melissa K.

    (4)
  • Kristin C.

  • D I.

Nice cozy neighborhood bar! I have hosted two events here and they both turned out great. They have a good wine list and a number of local beers, as well as live music on certain nights. I will continue to be a regular visitor and this great spot!

  • Jen M.

  • Stephanie H.

I should give you a pleasant warning: their martini's are STRONG, as in I was stumbling home after one.

a friend of mine lives right down the street from maeve...so now and then we will grab a drink to start our nights here. the crowd is a little older and quite random..but it really is a nice and cozy neighborhood establishment. it's a little off the beaten path, which makes it less crowded...and in a quiet area. overall, its a great sit, catch up and chat place. i could also imagine meeting a date for drinks here as the people watching is pretty...interesting. i have one issue- mostly just of personal confusion w/maeve. i think its really weird that maeve is masquerading as a redskins bar...as it seems to be a more upscale type of place...so im just having a difficult time imagining drunken redskins fans screaming and cheering. anyone else? the reason it gets 3 stars is because it simply didnt blow me away. its a nice choice for a drink or 2, but not a place id envision myself staying all evening.

Best bar in Lincoln Park and not just because it was a block from my old house. Good drinks and a nice, professional (non-DePaul undergrad) crowd. Can get packed on weekends, but I've always gotten good service.

Good spot.

  • Jen M.

    (3)
  • Joanna B.
