Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight has started a full-fledged national Burrito Bracket. They haven't covered the midwest yet, but on commenting on his previous attempt at a Wicker Park bracket, he says he considers this location as "the unofficial champion". fivethirtyeight.com/feat…

#4 I think the service was spectacular. I've been here twice: the first time I got quesadillas ahogadas, which I fell in love with immediately; the second time was for my UYE: Got Tacos? crawl...I got some carne asada and it was just ok. I would definitely have the quesadillas ahogadas again, but then again, I'll probably try making them myself first. I really think they need a wider spread of salsa. Those could have complimented the chips AND tacos better. I don't know...they're just something missing from the salsas. The place is large enough, it could definitely hold a large group with a little re-arranging. Both times I've visited there's always loud music coming from the kitchen and you get "odors' from the bathroom. Those are the only cons I can think of. Oh wait, no...another con....they do not split checks. So I'd recommend, if you're going with a large group, to bring cash. As far as parking, if you can't snag a spot in the front, the fast food Pasadita across the street has parking in the back and you can park for free! Otherwise you'll have to hit the streets and find a spot.

I brought a friend here after we rode our motorcycles into the city. We decided to go simple style for a quick bite so I chose this one. He had never been and asked if he could get rice and beans. LOL. I explained to him that you have to go next door for that. The food was good as usual. The service was ok ,but that's fine, it's a quick stop. They were able to break a hundred for a can of coke. Why? Cause they forgot to charge us for the coke and I didn't want to use my credit card again for a measly can of soda. Also, I had been trying to break that benjamin unsuccessfully for a couple days. In and out, quick and easy.

This place has the best burrito's and flavorful steak carne asada. Ive always had a very tasteful meal here, until today. I ordered a $10 Super Burrito. After about 20 mins of waiting on a lull Wednesday..I asked if my burrito was ready??? The cashier and the cook..spoke in spanish..like something was wrong. I get my burrito..and get home 5 mins later..the burrito is cold, the meat hard and dry, like they scraped some left over pieces from a wrong order 5 hours ago. Usually happy, but very disappointed that I will have to check the quality of my food before leaving..next time. Will return. Im a bit bummed my favorite burrito place would have me wait 20+ minutes..then use what looked and tasted like subpar meat. I threw it out. Another time, I had waited 40 mins for a burrito..finally asked them what the hell? They didnt even put the order in..disorganized. I hope they read these reviews to improve their cooking and organization

Our taco quest led us to La Pasadita. [I am pretty sure I am writing a review for the right location, but their locations are so close I am not 100% sure.] The food here was okay to good. It is certainly authentic preparation of the tacos (onion and cilantro). I tried the chicken, lomo (ribeye) and the asada tacos. I really liked the ribeye and thought it had great flavor and was so juicy. This was by far my favorite taco. However, that said, the chicken taco was dry and lacked seasoning. I also found the chicken to be tough. Considering that these tacos are a little more expensive than some of the others in the area and the good reviews, I was expecting a bit better.

Waited like 40 minutes for 5 Tacos at 3pm because nothing in the kitchen was prepped at that time of the day????????? The service here used to be OK not it's awful. I could hear the cook in the background telling them he had nothing ready as he flirted and whisteled at the cashier. They obviously could care less for the clientele.

Some of the best food we've had was street food and hole-in-the-walls, so we were happy to try this place 'cause the realtor suggested it, and she grew up eating this, so she should know. I couldn't figure out which of the 3 clustered on this street was the one we went to, until I saw the street numbers reflected backwards on one of my pictures. So very CSI. And yes, I know how dated I sound. We were disappointed. I've had better from my fav food truck. Cons: The steak was tough and chewy, didn't taste marinated or well-seasoned. The rice was bland and kinda mushy. The beans were too liquid-y. Pro: Good amount of meat in the soft tacos, no skimping. The service was polite. No compelling reason to return.

Updating my review. I used to love both these places, eating here at least once a week for the last three years. Lately food has sucked and or been out of stock. How can you have half your meat selection out? Went in recently and saw the cook cut freshly cooked steak on a cutting board that he just prepped raw chicken on. That would explain my last couple visits ;(

Horrible, horrible wait times. I had to wait 27 minutes for 2 burritos with only 2 or 3 other people there, ridiculous. This is the third time I've had to wait in excess of 20 minutes for a small amount of food...for tacos and burritos. Brutal.

had 2 chicken tacos and 1 steak burrito... both was really salty.. for the price it is definitely not worth it.. also saw them microwaving the chicken meat...

First, I'm reviewing for the one with the yellow paint on the building and the black gate. lol I don't know which address that one is. My boyfriend took me here a few years ago. At first, I was not that impressed. I guess because he hyped it up so much. But recently, we have been going back more and more. I can't get enough of their chile relleno taco and the salsa!!! MMMM so good. The steak is good too but hands down the chile relleno is my favorite. I can't stop craving it. It's hard to go anywhere else for tacos now. Sucks, because I live in the suburbs so it's a bit out of the way so any chance I'm over there I make sure I stop by. Thank God their open late!! The only con about this place is that either one out of the two bathrooms either does not have soap or paper towels!!!! I always have to go the men's to get either soap or a paper towel!! Kinda makes me wonder re. food preparation!!

These tacos were a notch above standard, the tortillas were warm and flexible, onions and cilantro fresh. The salsa verde on the table was sadly not hot at all, but had a lot of nice smokey flavors which were amazing on the perfectly roasted carne asada. Someone told me eating chicken here is a waste of time, and they're right. Not because the chicken is bad, but because the beef is so goooood....

I have been coming here for many years. It really is super tasty and savory Mexican food that many other reviews talk up. Unfortunately in the past year or so they have jacked the prices of burritos and everything else to jaw dropping levels. You're paying $10, yes $10 dollars, for a burrito that just isn't worth it anymore. When you couple that with long wait times for takeout and tons more options in the area it just ain't what it used to be. Bottom line: if you haven't yet, go there, if you have been, move along

Not even the appearance of a taco-crawler named "The Wizard" could have saved the sad taco I had here. I have been to the other La Pasadita down the street, but this location is more "sit down" than take out. I just had the one lone carne asada taco and an agua fresco--Tamarind. The meat was flavorless and chewy. The salsas on the table couldn't save it either. Although, the agua fresco was delicious and the complimentary chips were super crispy and addictive. The bathroom was gross (and it was the middle of the afternoon, so you can't blame the late night crowd). The only saving grace was the service--the gal was super friendly and sweet. This was stop #4 on a Taco Crawl and I thought maybe by now I'd be taco'ed out and be sick of tacos. Well, stop #5 was truly delicious so I'm sorry La Pasadita, I won't be back.

An almost useless review here, but FWIW... Visited in 2009 after the first wave of "this is the greatest burrito ever" reviews. Meh, nothing special at all and the service was below average. I liked the dive-like atmosphere, but I also expected more from the food. It was very average. A later visit confirmed my initial impression. Somehow it's getting into the 538 'best ever' category, but how is a mystery to me.

I have probably eaten here 30-40 times, and I really have to question why. The food is ok. It does the job if you are drunk but when sober it's questionable at best. The reason for my 1 star review is the service. They usually forget about my order 75% of the time. Then I sit and wait 30-50 minutes for it to come out. Probably some of the worst service in the city. Doesn't matter if I call ahead or not... Always the same I come in and pay ... Then wait 30 - 50 minutes for two steak tacos. Shame on me for putting myself through that abuse.

Delicious Mexican food. Fast and cheap. I see some of the negative reviews on here but what were you expecting when you walked into a place like this??

i lived next to this place for more than a year and nowhere since has had better steak (burritos, tacos, tortas, whatever). Just add hot sauce, onion and cilantro and BAM, you are good to go.

For a late night crave run after drinking this place is a gem. Not a place to take someone you want to impress. We went to the sit-down, black sign location. It is dirty and has been in need of a remodel since the late 70's. The service was decent but don't expect alot of attention. The food was above average, and authentic Mexican. The Carne-asada tacos were tasty but smaller than expected. The green salsa actually had flavor and a bit of a bite, i would avoid the darker green sauce. The complimentary chips were fresh. Good late night spot for the price, but I wouldn't go there unless I had been drinking already...

I used to come here years ago and could not stop raving about it! Unfortunately, the past few times i have been here i haven't been too happy. The last time me and a friend wanted to grab something quick and easy and we were right down the street so i suggested to go to La Pasadita. It wasn't very busy so we sat down and then waited for 10 minutes for someone to give us menus or get us water. It took about 25-30 minutes to get our food but i didn't mind that because their steak tacos are the bomb. When we got our food i was just so disappointed because the steak was chewy and dry. My friend got a chicken quesadilla and after a few bites found a lovely long black hair so it was safe to say she stopped eating after that... The search for a local taco joint continues...

This was a rare yelp send-off. I was in the area and hungry, so I pulled up my trusty yelp app to find some good food. I hadn't had Mexican food in a while, so with a 4-star average I thought I would be in great shape. Not so much. The carne asada burrito was good enough, though it would have been nice to have more than just the tortilla and steak. I was not satisfied after the burrito so I went to the Pasadita a few doors down and grabbed a chicken and steak taco. Both were flavorless. I don't know if I got a bad batch but those tacos were just not good.

Nothing mindblowing but nothing to scoff at either. It's a great place to grab some drunk food!

The Service is slow because they are either understaffed or the waitresses like to chit-chat too much and the customer feels like they are just getting in the middle of their conversation. However, I keep coming back for their Carne Asada Tacos..... The steak is grilled and taste close to when my Mexican friends make Arachera which is marinated flank steak that they love to grill during the summer months. Add onions and cilantro to the taco and you have a really tasty meal. Also, their salsas are a little spicier than most of the Mexican joints around. Three steak tacos will cost you around 8 bucks. It is important to mention that the bathrooms are filthy.

This was exactly what I needed at around 1am while hanging around division street. That really does sum it up perfectly as La Pasadita was there like a great friend when I needed some late night tacos. The menu is pretty simple and tacos are their main focus. Granted, that was what I was here for, so it was all good for me. I got myself a carne asada and a barbacoa. The menu was mostly beef based as I didn't notice any chicken on there. That said, both of the tacos were spot on. Slightly on the greasier side, but that was exactly what I wanted. Most of all, they were pretty damn cheap. I paid barely over $4 for the two of them. Somehow I think there will be return trips here in the future.

  • Michelle T.

Steak nachos were very tasty! 4 stars because the service was the worst. We ordered 4 very simple dishes and our food took over 30 mins not counting the 10 min it took for her to come over to our table to take our order. I would get take out from there in the future because it is down the street from me.

Awful. To think I ate there so many times 10 years ago. People love the steak asada, but guess what? It's terrible. Chewy and super salty! I couldn't even finish mine. If you want good tacos, hop over to Western Ave and go to Taqueria Super Burrito!

  • Amina G.

This place has some of the best chicken tacos! However, their barbacoa is absolutely terrible and it's extremely slimy. Their staff is quite rude and seem to always have disturbing attitudes BUT their food is really good (besides the barbacoa). It is a pricey place considering they only sell tacos and burritos. They charge for cheese, sour cream, avocado etc etc etc. I bought 2 chicken tacos and the total added up to almost $10. It's extremely ridiculous. So I only go there once in a while. Despite their rude staff and prices, the food is tasty.

BEST CARNE ASADA BURRITOS. I've only been here once so I've only had their burrito - I hear the tacos are amazing as well, but I usually like pastor/chorizo on my tacos and they don't offer that. The meats they offer are the asada, barbacoa, lengua, and they have a stuffed pepper burrito. The steak burritos are all you need, you'll be in heaven. On the burrito comes cilantro and diced onion but you can ask for cheese, tomato. I think it's fine without the cheese and tomato, if you get an order of limes. The limes make the steak FANTASTIC, you can't have your burrito without limes, and I like alternating between dipping my burrito in the hot sauce and sour cream (extra .50, I'm weird and like sour cream on everything). It's a great size, not too much but not too little. I devoured everything, didn't have a stomach ache but boy was I full. Honestly the best thing about the burrito was the asada. Best I've ever tasted. Compared to some other Mexican places in the area (Guerrero's) the steak is flavorful and juicy. Just thinking about the burritos makes my mouth water. Burrito is $8, give it a try and you won't forget it. It's well worth the money. The place is a normal little restaurant, nothing fancy, generic booths. Customer service is alright, nothing amazing, the girl at the counter was more friendly towards usuals or people from the area. I'm not Mexican or of Hispanic/Latino ethnicity but I love Mexican food! I seemed to get a less friendly attitude than the others who came in. Nonetheless I don't really care, they have the best burritos in town.

My co-workers and I came here for lunch and had some real tasty foods. I had the steak nachos, the steak had a good flavor, but it was a little on the salty side, but its a huge plate of nachos, meat, guacamole, sour cream. Overall, I would come back but, I would get the chicken.

  • Matt M.

Not exactly sure what any of the hype is about. I was neither impressed nor terribly disappointed. The food wasn't bad, but it was overpriced and the staff was sure to continuously point out what they don't provide rather than what they do. I know people enjoy rustic but it's not that. It's cheap.

Awesome tacos grew up having them every week. Never been disappointed best tacos in the WORLD!!! I've had tacos all over the world and they are the best. I live in New England now and can't find a place that compares. Even in Mexico couldn't find anything like it. Can't wait to go back to Chicago to have some awesome tacos it's always the first place I stop.

There are 3 of these right next to each other. My friend and I were on burrito quest at 2am after hitting every single bar between Damen and Ashland on Division. First pasadita, NO VEGGIE BURRITOS. Kind staff said across the street but not the yellow sign. We had no idea what the hell they were talking about so we went to the pasadita across the street only to be met with YOUR BURRITO IS IN ANOTHER CASTLE! Finally next door we found a full menu and sit down area. We beat the drunken rush somehow (they probably were on the same wild burrito chase) and got seats and our delicious burritos. We might have even gotten drinks. I don't remember. My friends burrito was bigger than her head and she ate it before I had time to unwrap mine. We will be going back to la pasadita.

Very pissed about this experience bottom line! I went there at 1 A.M. and no I was not drunk, and I probably should have been. First of all the steak was good but only on the burrito we decided to split. The steak on the taco was tough as hell! The food was high priced as we were charged a lot for just a burrito and two tacos! We asked for water, they had no water, we asked for an Horchata and they had none! We wanted a pork taco and they had none! The cashier did not give a shit either, and I suspect we were overcharged, but possibly not they probably take advantage of their late night crowd. I was very very upset with this place.......how the hell are you going to have no pork when it's on the friggin menu! What kind of "authentic" Mexican place has no horchata (hope I spelled this right)! How the hell you not going to have water!!! Me and my brother hate pop, we either choose proper hydration from water or at least an authentic Mexican drink like a horchata, but this stupid place forced us to have soda! I want to also harp once again on the toughness of the steak on each of our tacos! I was insulted by this place because they have this big reputation, which apparently gives them a huge ego and sense of entitlement to give shit service and shit food and make you pay out the ass for it. See East Village is full of yuppies and hipsters and mainly visiting suburban drunk kids that don't know shit about good food. This place takes advantage of that and slacks on everything yet takes your money. Drunk kids will continue to like it. Maybe I should have come in during normal hours, but you know what, I should not have to only come in at certain times! You don't just downgrade the quality late at night because you want to take advantage of the late night drunks. They pissed the wrong people off! We are both foodies and appreciate quality whether we are drunk or not! La Pasadita you better return to making good food like I am sure you did back when East VIllage was a tougher neighborhood. Just because the neighborhood changed does not mean you should! This is right near the corner of Ashland and Division and the restaurants are southwest of that corner making them a part of East Village not Ukranian Village. Wicker Park is just north of Ashland and Division; therefore, Yelp is wrong this is not even close to Ukrainian Village. NOT A UKRANIAN VILLAGE ESTABLISHMENT!

Worst mexican food in Chicago...I still go there due to its late night hours, but the rubbery bland beef is only edible after a night of cocktails. Ok, I'll give it an extra star for friendly staff...

The service is terrible and food is average. I've ordered take out from this restaurant twice, and called in 45 minutes in advance both times. Each time I went to pick up my food, it was not ready and they began to cook it only after I came in.

I am a San Franciscan and I like mission style burritos. I like rice and beans, meat, sour cream, cheese and salsa in my burritos. I love the flavor combination. THESE are the polar opposite of a mission style burrito. Basically these are giant street tacos in a bigger tortilla. Basically, big logs of meat. Not my thing. However, if I had chosen to get tacos here I think I would have been a bigger fan. The meat was delicious and had great flavor. I think I just ordered the wrong thing. Chicago isn't California and I'll remember that when ordering again. Tacos all the way. Street tacos seem to be consistent everywhere I go.

La Pasadita was my weekly go to spot for a couple years when I lived in Wicker Park. If I still lived within walking distance, there's a good chance I wouldn't fit through a doorway. That being said, La Pasadita is excellent. The quality of the steak is among the best you'll find for a hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint. This place is all about the carne asada. They don't offer al pastor and they don't offer chorizo, which I find rather odd, but you won't need anything other than the steak to make you happy at La Pasadita. Definitely get the chachos. They're La Pasadita's version of nachos covered in guacamole, sour cream, beans, cheese, and steak. I also douse them in the salsa verde and salsa negro. The burritos are outstanding as well and they can be eaten as 2 meals. I recently tried the quesadillas nortenos, which were tasty! They were a bit crispy and almost like mini tacos. Different than the quesadillas appetizers I've had in Pilsen, but still good. The horchata is really good. Nice cinnamon and vanilla flavor. A bit sweet, but I like sweet horchata. First things first: chachos y burritos. After that feel free to explore the menu, but your first impression of La Pasadita should be a steak burrito and chachos with everything and steak. This is a barebones place to order carryout or sit in their little dining area. Nothing fancy, just good food, which is truly what matters. During the day, you'll see families eating here, people on their lunch breaks, and it's calm and quiet. At night it fills up with people who've been out partying and need late night Mexican. Drunk or sober, I always enjoy La Pasadita.

Awesome steak burritos and torta's. Very filling, especially if you get the super burrito. One of my favorite burrito's in the city. Their salsa is also amazing.

Hands down the absolute best taqueria to ever exist!!!!!! Agua de horchata=perfection and their home made salsa is to die for. I would give a lot to have that recipe, which is most likely a very simple one. BEST.TACOS.EVER.ANYWHERE.

Honestly it kind of sucked. It just wasn't good any way you cut it. I had the skirt steak and it was dry and not very flavorful. There are way better options in Chi

I love La Pasadita (original 3 locations). I grew up on it. Due to the gentrification of the neighborhood though its constantly gotten expensive over the years. Ate some tacos with my friend and the bill was over $20. Really? For two people? Ridiculous. I could name 5 taquerias that match the taste but are way cheaper. I won't say I won't go back but, I sure wouldn't make the effort to visit La Pasadita. #Disappointedlifelongfan

The most flavorful burrito i have had. Just get the steak burrito with onions and cilantro. Add some of their salsa for some spice and you are set. The meat is kinda tough and is obviously not top shelf but what do you expect from a late nght mexican restaurant? They used to be cash only but i think you can pay by card if you have a $10 min. The burrito is about $8, so get an horchata to wash it down if you dont have cash.

This is the southern location of La Pasadita's three (now 2) convenient locations at Division and Ashland. It's the more "Americanized" version. As opposed to its northern neighbor, this place has a full wait staff and a number of extra menu items such as veggie tacos. But by far the most important addition is Chorizo. If all you want is a steak burrito or taco, go to the northern La Pasadita, otherwise come here. An aside: I order pick up on the phone all the time and the girls can never hear/understand my name, so I started just calling myself Batman. Because I am the night.

I've been having a taco crave lately, so that means driving to all the good tacos spot that my friends recommend. First time coming here and the tacos are really good. They are juicy and the steak is good. The only thing that I didn't like about this place is their green sauce. It wasn't spicy at all and my friends agreed also. It was a good 15 minute drive from my house, but if I am by the area, I would definitely come here.

Almost didn't go in based on the outside apperance, I know your not supposed to judge a book by is cover, but it was scary ! Pretty small dining area, and i got pretty busy on a Sunday night. Service wasn't the best, but again they were busy. Food looked amazing and was pretty good. I did love the 3 giant bowls of salsa they brough with he chips ! I had Nachos that were just okay. My friend got 2 steak tacos and 1 chicken, and a dite coke, and she said i was the best $6 meal she's had. The review below raves about the steak tacos but she really liked the chicken as well !

Um, I'm pretty sure this is the one where you can only order tacos or burritos. Yeah. Sounds right. So anyway, the carne asada burrito is what you need when you've been drinking for many hours on an empty stomach. It's totally meaty and really huge and is basically meat, onions and cilantro in a giant tortilla. Service is friendly enough. You order at the counter, have a seat and wait a about 10 mins for your burrito or taco. I was concerned to see three microwaves in plain sight. Why the need for microwaves?

I don't usually believe the hype, but everything I heard about this place was true. And I've eaten at all three locations. The burritos are packed, and I mean PACKED, with the best asada I've ever tasted. Throw in a little cilantro and onion with some salsa verde squirted on each bite, and you're in business. Simple and delicious. These are the burritos by which all others should be judged. Pure, simple, and as close to perfect as you can get. These are not Mission-style burritos. These are packed meat logs. God I want one right now. UPDATE: I've heard that the quality has declined considerably. I'll have to investigate...

After running some chores on the north side of the city, the hunger monster awoke and I didn't know what to do. Where should I go? So many places... so many choices. Yelp to the rescue! I yelped nearby restaurants and this place came up as one of the best and most reviewed fast food places around. Here case where I think the ratings were right on. Yes, it is confusing that there are like 3 restaurants with the same name and a 4th with a similar name all practically right next to each other. However, THIS Pasadita was great. I loved the flavor of the beans and the cheese they use was mouth-meltingly awesome. Had a tostada and half a burrito. I think they over-charged me for the burrito, though. A veggie burrito is supposed to be $6. I did ask for the larger size, so I can see if they charged extra, but they charged the regular super burrito size, $8.50. If you look at the meat/regular menu, a regular burrito was like $7 with the super burrito being $8.50 ($1.50 more), so if the veggie burrito is $6, then a veggie super size should be something around $7.50 (roughly $1.50 more?). You would think... A bit upset about that but I didn't say anything because I was just so satisfied by the flavor of the food. Oh... don't forget the sauces. If you eat in, you get chips and two bottles of salsa. Green and brown. The green one is super spicy. I found a combination of a splash of green with a dousing of brown to be a great combination. I don't know why they don't provide a bowl or something if you eat it, because it was kinda awkward to squeeze the sauces directly on to each chip... Overall awesome and I would definitely go back. Next time I'll ask about the price of the burrito and also ask for a bowl for the sauce. :-)

Really great tacos!! The Lomo here is excellent and everything is fresh. All the food even down to the limes and tortillas are just refreshing. And pretty good service. Way to go.

The lengua tacos here are my favorite. The flavors are rich and the cilantro + onion fresh. Everything in general could use a little extra salt to really make the flavors pop. Compared to most of the franchise places today, there's no rice or excess veggies in your tacos/burritos--it's all meat. Try this place out if you're coming off the Damen subway stop, it's right around the corner!

How can you not love this place? There are three of the same restaurant, on the same block. Super authentic, cheap, and one of the burritos on the menu is straight meat. I used to live down the street and probably miss this place the most of any in Wicker Park/Ukrainian Village area.

I am thankful today. The server didn't hear us order two super burritos and gave us only one. Or, maybe she just thought we were out of our minds to think we could eat two! Good thing someone could think clearly. Be careful with the squeeze bottle of cilantro hot sauce... it tends to get clogged and spurt with vengeance! Like, all over the place. But it is SO good and every individual bite of chips and burrito should be supplemented with this stuff. $6 burrito + two $2 horchatas = $10 (almost) hangover-free morning after.

I kept the receipt so I knew which one of the 15000 Pasaditas to place my hex upon. This? This has the blessing of so many yelpers? Goodness gracious, no. I came here for 3 chicken tacos with lettuce, onion, tomato, and cilantro. Awful. The meat was charred, the tortilla tasted old, my tomato had tang (not a good thing), and the onion was sparse. In all three. It crossed my mind that I was given an old order. But, then, it took a little while to get my food so, that couldn't be it. Could it? With each bite, I wondered why I continued to eat this bad food. I mean, I ate them all (I paid for them and I am working on my fitness, except the opposite). But, I didn't like doing so. I know I've eaten a burrito from one of the Pasaditas. I remember it being a decent experience but this was years ago. I have no recollection of which one gave me the goods. But, this time. This time I kept the receipt so I would know under which house lurked an evil so dark that it could never be spoken about. Or, you know. I could 'meh' review the experience on Yelp. Put it this way: I found myself a few sheets to the wind nearby LP and, remembering those tacos, I decided to go home and eat YOGURT (as in, Wallaby Organic, not fro-yo) than walk the twenty paces for late-night drunk food. I'm jus' sayin'.

Quite possibly the worst customer service I've ever had at any restaurant ever. Read on... I came to this restaurant yesterday and ordered two chicken burritos to go. Seems simple enough, right? When the guy took my order he said nothing about the kitchen being backed up. There were maybe 6 people ahead of me, but I'm a patient man, I can wait. 35 minutes later, the guy behind the counter says nothing. No apologies for the delay, no offer of chips while we are waiting....nothing. I check on my order. There's one order ahead of mine. Well, I've waited this long, so I make a call to my dining companion and explain the situation. And I wait... Now almost 50 minutes have gone by and the guy tells me they are out of chicken. I explain to him that I've waited long enough and I'd just like my money back. No can do, he says, I can order something else though. I explain that I'm dining with someone who has dietary restrictions (Hindu -- no beef or pork) and that I've waited for chicken, I've paid for chicken and politely ask for my money back. Again. Well, he says it's not the policy of the restaurant to give refunds and he cannot authorize it. At this point I ask him to get someone who can authorize it and he says he can't. I ask him to call someone and again he says he can't. He tells me that he can give me a credit and that I can come back and pick up dinner in two hours. At this point a woman comes up and says that they can make more chicken, but it will take ten minutes. I tell her that normally a to go order takes 10 minutes, I've been there for close to an hour, and that I really just want to go. End result, after almost an hour of waiting, I received no food, but I did get my money back, but no apology. Instead the cashier said that he hoped he didn't get into trouble. Well, I'm not aiming to cause trouble for him or anyone else, but honestly, I can't be bothered with a restaurant that has so little concern for its customers.

My friend told me that she loved to eat here while drunk. I believe her, because I also love to eat while drunk. Unfortunately, at 7pm on a Thursday, we were not drunk and also unimpressed with La Pasadita's food. The chile relleno, while a real, flavorful chile, relleno with gooey cheese was breaded in what felt like some kind of packaged snack treat, all spongey and sweet. In combination with tortillas that didn't have that soapy taste cooked out of them, too many raw onions, and gooey green salsa that we both thought looked like loogeys, I'll need a few drinks in me before I come back. The carne asada was better, but still had too much gristle and connective tissue and not enough marinade. However! The atmosphere was very welcoming- we sat at our booth for over an hour after picking at our tacos and felt no pressure to leave from the friendly counter staff. They also asked my lactarded questions about the horchata, and told us straight up that they use powdered milk. You guys rule, even if your food is meant for someone who is drunk.

The first time I came here I thought the 8.95 plate was a good deal. After the second time I came here, you couldn't pay ME $8,950 to come back. It took forever to get our food, which was a really basic order (steak fajitas). Then I received my order before anyone else. OK, fine, I figured the rest of our group would get their food within a minute or so...NO. Ten minutes later, their food came. Not only was my food cold, but so was theirs. I asked if they wouldn't mind putting my food in the microwave (yes, they had a microwave they were frequently using, which is weird) so they did. Ten minutes later, it was still in the microwave. I prayed to God it wasn't in the microwave for that long.... Don't worry, it wasn't. They just forgot. Don't go here. Also, most customers are drunk and rude... So if you want to fall into that category, you may have just found yourself a little piece of heaven.

29 minute wait (yes, literally) for an average burrito..at 2 pm...in an almost empty restaurant. also, the burrito was about $10. nothing special and way over-priced, top that off with awful service and you've got Pasadita.

Mexican street tacos in Chicago! Wow, this place is keepin it real. If you are there before and not after the bars you might even catch them peeling fresh garlic for their green sauce. Years ago I 'accidentally" left with a bottle of it, it was that good, I thought I brought it myself! This place is so yummy they have 3 locations on this SAME intersection. Weird, but true. Chile relleno and carne asada doused in green sauce, my fav. This is the place to go when you are really hungry and want food immediately. So basically, its best after the bars or a long flight or bike ride! True, its not "california".. these aren't mission style (as in, the churches? really? [double eww]), but if you know mexican food and want something legit.. not "burritos the size of your head" then check this place out for your taco fix. Minus a star for throwing chile rellenos in the microwave, not sure if they are still doing it or if there is another way.. I just have a weird thing about microwaves. I really don't think its detracting from taste.

I think in high school, one of my profesoras del Espanol (Senora Smith me thinks) in "el barrio autentico" in the western 'burbs damned us all to being made fun of by those who were truly authentic (100% orgullo) by telling us the way to say something was so-so, or just OK was "asi asi." What she told us was the literal translation for the word "so" and therefore told us to say "so-so" literally. Which of course doesn't mean a damn thing to Spanish speakers. I should have known better considering it was coming from someone named "Senora SMITH," but I digress... As usual... Why bring this up now? Why not?!? You see- every time I have eaten La Pasadita, no matter what it has been, it has been nothing more than "mas o menos" (more or less) which is the real way to say "asi-asi," or just OK, serviceable, nothing special. Don't get me wrong, there are some redeeming qualities to this restaurant with location identity issues. Late hours is cool. Drunken people watching is cool. BYOB (maybe? I can't imagine anyone would try to stop a group of already drunk people from coming in with brown-bagged 40 oz. of Icehouse to help wash down their carne asada tacos). Ten year-olds with peach fuzz on their upper lips working 12 hours shifts to said drunk people at said late hours is cool. Well, not that last part. Besides, I really don't know if that dude is only ten, but he doesn't look a day over thirteen, that is for sure!

THE WORST TACOS EVER. The meat was so tough I couldn't even chew it - had to throw both of them away they were so bad. How can this place have 4 stars?

  • KELLIE K.

Don't get confused by the multiple locations. The one at 1132 is the one and only. All you need to know is try the black salsa. Charred, spicy, and it does magical things to whatever you put it on (chips, your tongue, your friends). Whether it's for a late night or a regular dinner, go here. It's not fancy and there are only a handful of tables. You will eat some damn fine food made the right way. Go to this location. Go now. Or later tonight.

nom nom nom!!! Perfect late night food. Fast, cheap, and good. Heck, I want to return sober!

Came here after going to Bangers and Lace for a drink. They say greasy foods taste the best after drinking, and this may very well be the reason for me thinking their beef tongue taco was something wonderful. My friend got the steak taco which I thought was marinated better. This place has become a monopoly on this street. They have 3 different locations all within a few feet of each other. But out of the 3, only 1 stays open til the wee hours of the morning. Go to this location to get your late night taco fix. Expect a full house when going, no matter the time.

  • Jeff O.

Excellent place for lunch if you have a limited scope of appetite! The menu is tiny as f*ck, but the tacos are so good it doesn't matter. Just get some steak tacos and a Coke and you're golden, Jerry. The house green sauce is muy bueno! Didn't see chicken on the menu. Weird! Eat up, then get out of there and experience the city of Chicago.

This is the best CHEAP, AUTHENTIC MEXICAN/burrito place in Chicago. There's a reason why they have two three of them right next to each other. Like Jovim said, "The Maxwell Street of Mexican Food." 5 Star....bang for the buck.

I don't get it. Everyone at work was ravinvg about La Pasadita - they loved it so much that they would walk there in the summer braving the entrance to the expressway, no crosswalks, etc. I finally visited once with a group from work and I could not have been less impressed. My food simply had no flavor. None! It was terrible. I couldn't wait to leave. The spot was grimy and dingy and I tried to avoid looking at the glasses because I'm not sure how I would have felt about their cleanliness. The food was cheap, yes, but not even worth the cheap price. I didn't enjoy anything I tried, and I tried quite a few items. This is definitely not worth a visit.

I always have high expectations from hole-in-the-wall places; is that weird? It was not busy but our food took a bit longer than expected. Also, the cashier ignored my question when I wanted a straw for my drink. It could be because he didn't speak English so I'll let that one slide. I tried 3 tacos, the steamed beef, steak, and tongue. The tortillas were soggy and breaking apart when I was eating it. Bad. The tongue did not taste good. Bad. The steak taco was solid. I'd come back just for that if I was in the area.

Do yourself a favor and get the barbacoa tacos. I will travel up here just for those tacos. They get a four star because the rest of their tacos are above average.

Since the years past La Pasadita has been in my list from excellent to ok, all because through the years that tacos and burritos had shrink I used to eat 3 tacos and be completely full and now I eat 4 tacos and I still kind of hungry. The price has been excellent and now is so expensive just for a skinny taco, buy 3 or 4 tacos and pay what will u pay at a Mexican restaurant for a plate which obviously are bigger, and I know through the years prices had rise but for a taco to be almost 3 dollars come on, I love tacos and i been in so many restaurants where tacos are still under 2 dollars and the quality is good and taste and the portions are about the same size or bigger...but for a quick once in awhile eat, La Pasadita still an OK option..

    (3)
  • Mia P.

Late night only. I really don't know why people rave about the carne asada! It's straight up chewy, and I've tried it multiple times. You can and should go somewhere else for it. I guess options are limited come 2:30 in the morning though... Last time I went, it was cash only and they were out of tortas :(

    (1)
  • Eliana A.

IMO one of the best carne asada tacos in the city. Only flaw is that they charge extra for cheese and don't have many ingredients to starts. But they're quick and good. The meat tastes grade A compared to other places. Hopefully they have limes for my next trip. Just found out how amazing lime juice on tacos are lol.

    (4)
  • Raquel D.

The meat here is seriously delicious - drunk AND sober. I've come on both occasions, multple times. I only go to the sit down one...not sure if they are different - i know the one next to it is more of a "to-go" place, but I like my chips and pico de gallo, thank you. The tacos are delish and minimal - just onions and cilantro here, folks. If you want the extras like sour cream or cheese, it'll cost ya. But the black sauce is good enough for me...ok, fine AND sour cream. Gotta have it. The tampiquena is damn good too if you're hungry or if you have a buddy to share as it's alot of food for good value - steak, 2 quesadilla, rice and beans and lettuce and tomato. drooool. Oh, and tortillas of course so you can make tacos from it too....good deal. Sometimes, it's kinda oily, but not a deal breaker, really.

  • Fe T.

This place is full of contradictions. The furniture and decor inside really looks like it is for the homeless. But the price isn't ...I am not sure I am qualified to say it is authentic or not but I've experienced cheaper, more delicious tacos. For $2.5, you have to pay an extra $1 for avocado. Seriously? I am fine with paying more if the food is good, but in Logan Square, you can definitely find fresh, hot tacos with lower prices. Don't mean to sound cheap here but if you charge people more, at least have some napkins. This is one of the few restaurants in America that make napkins look like gold sheets. The service was terrible. The green sauce was very diluted and seems to be poured out of a mug that did not look very hygienic... The waitress grossed me out when she was pouring that green-ish substance into to-go boxes. Anyway, I won't come here again.

The carne asada tacos that I had yesterday soaked up the boozies from last night. Therefore, it did the job. The whorechata is cold and sweet. That's all I can remember.

Simply AMAZING chile rellenos tacos. Love their Horchata! Their salsa is amazing as well! Mmm and their rice and beans!!! Everything about this place is great! All of this for a great price!!!

Average quick mexican food. Carne wasn't bad. Barbacoa was basically 100% fat, was close to inedible. If this place was in socal it'd be just another taqueria. and $6.50 for a burrito?!?!?!? no chance.

OK I'm 95% sure I got the right La Pasadita for this review, which seems to be a constant source of confusion in these reviews. According to my detailed analysis, 37% of La Pasadita reviews are posted on the wrong location. Don't take that statistic too seriously though; also according to my analysis, Tina Fey and I are BFFs. Anyway, this is the biggest of the three Las Pasaditas (LPs from here on out) on the west side of the street, slightly to the south of the other one. You can get table service here if you decide to eat in. I got carry-out. The menu here is the most expansive of the three LPs. You can get tacos, tostadas, tortas, burritos, fajitas and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. This may also be the best location for us gringos. I haven't been to the one just north of here, but the one across the street can be a bit intimidating at times for someone as lily-white as me (even though I do speak a little Spanish). The service was OK. Not super friendly, but not mean...just a bit cool. It took awhile to get my food after I ordered, but not quite long enough to be too long. My order was completely accurate. I really enjoyed my chicken torta. It was messy and tough to eat, but there was a generous amount of flavorful chicken on it and they didn't skimp on the other toppings. My steak taco (with only onions and cilantro, the default taco toppings at all LPs) was also good. Finally, my horchata was delicious. I think the prices here are quite fair for what you get. The torta was 3-something, and it was very big. I got a torta, a taco and a regular horchata for under $8 and it was plenty to fill me up. If you're dining in, the place is nothing special. The seating is typical of what you'd see at a carryout-oriented taco joint. I'm not sure if you get free chips & salsa, as I haven't tried it. One little FYI, they take credit cards but there's a sign saying they require a $10 minimum purchase. Overall, I'd say this place is muy buena! Me gusta La Pasadita y creo que voy a volver pronto!

Carne asada, carne asada, carne asada. Salsa verde. This place is the burrito love of my life. When I lived in Indiana, in college, we used to drive up 35 miles just to eat here. Back in the early nineties when this neighborhood was plenty scary. When I moved to Chicago, I did stray a bit. There are other decent burrito places to love but there's nothing like your first. And REALLY, there's nothing like it. Some places come close but these burritos, delicious in their simplicity, are the best. I try to explain to my Florida friends why the refried bean, cheese, crap and ground or re-hashed steak or ground beef burritos are gross but they just don't get it and unless they come eat here, they never will. I feel bad for them. Can't wait for my next trip back to Chicago.

  • Pascal M.

Simple and faaaaaaaantastic. They move fast and deliver great product. I love the simplicity behind it all. Not only the food, but how everything is made. A guy just had a giant bowl mixed wiht onions and cilantro and was cranking out the finishing touches on the tacos. The steak is full of flavor and incredibly juicy. La Pasadita on the outside can look like many other Mexican joints, but they surpass the vast majority and put themselves as close to the top as one can get. They're open late too!

We typically have a great experience here and are willing to pay extra for the amazing guac but was extremely disappointed in the food this evening. The food was carelessly made. It definitely makes me question going back here.

Eek!! I hate this place. I was born and raised in Guadalajara Mexico. I moved here because my husband is American. He took me here when we were just dating - he wanted to surprise me with authentic Mexican food for lunch one day. It was discussing. I pretended to love it LOL we were just starting to date so I didn't want to seem like a brat... I swear the meat was like rubber. They give you the worst and cheapest available! I kinda threw up a little bit in my mouth when I tasted the Lengua tacos. My friend (Mexican visiting) sitting across from me was laughing her butt off at me!!! LOL It took me 3 years to confess to my hubby that i hate that place. He tried taking me there some many times and I just made excuses. To try t be fair, I did try it once more. Same discussing experience... Never again. I feel the only way you can like their food is if you are blacked out drunk and its past 2 AM... for me, not even then. There are some many better taco places around... don't go to any of the Pasaditas.

  • Susan C.

I saw this place on check please and I decided to go with a friend. So if u want fast food as in good tacos this is the place to go. I like their steak tacos and the green sauce that comes with it. A few tacos will keep your tummy full and satisfied.

  • Lee A.

The tacos were so greasy!! Ewww!! The restaurant was beyond dirty. I almost felt uncomfortable to eat the food due to how dirty the restaurant was. The prices were outrageous. $11 for a burrito and charge extra for cheese. I was so disappointed. I will never go back!

    (1)

This is the type of place to get a burrito to go and not dine in. The steak burrito is amazing and best kept naked (with fresh onions and cilantro). Guilty addiction. Friendly staff too.

Oh man, haven't been here in a little while, but just realized I've been frequenting this place for almost 10 years. YIKES!! If you're looking for real mexican, no frills, none of that trendy stuff... this is the place to go, esp for tacos. Yummm. Esp great for late night I'll try & post some other pics from years past. But for now, here's the Steak fajita: B-. **but** the flavor is really good. Imma gonna tell em' not to overcook next time. If they can pull that off, it's an A! Aaaand only ~$9.

  • Ganga H.

You've gotta be kidding me. Average tacos is an overstatement. The bar for good tacos has gone up in the last 20 years you know? Points for being open super late, but beyond that, save your taste buds for something deserving at any of the other places, starting with Dona Naty's.

Only once have I gone here. Like always I must give everyone A shot. Worse place ever! Nasty food, the meat was all dry n the horchata tasted so disgusting. N the cashier with his attitude. Customer service is one of the most important part of have a business. Sorry guys better luck next time. If it ever comes!!!!

    (1)
  • E W.

No, no, no no no no. The worst Mexican restaurant in Chicago; has to be. Should have known it was going to suck when I noticed that it was empty. There were four people behind the counter, but none of them were interested in serving customers. Some of the things that went wrong: The chips were stale, our order was incorrect, we had to ask for silverware, We had to ask for our drinks, We had to ask for our side order, But then they ran out and did not bother to tell us until we asked about it. Service was extraordinarily bad, and there were only three other customers maximum the entire time we were there. I have no reason to ever again spend any money in this place or its bald, blind sibling next door with even less to offer. (I was actually sent to this location from the other, because they admitted their menu was limited.) TLDR: Nope.

    (1)
  • Hannah C.

The meats are the stars here (there are literally no veggie options - they will build them a burrito or quesadilla with just toppings like lettuce and tomatoes but it's not worth it). Despite any Daily Meal article to the contrary, skip the burrito - it conceals the delicious meaty chunks in a huge amount of average toppings you could buy at the grocery. Go for the tostadas or tacos instead - they feature the meat much better!

    (3)
  • Grennan K.

Been eating steak tortas for almost 15 years? This is a classic Mexican food joint anyone who rates this place harshly needs to back down. Carne asada tacos with plenty of onions and cilantro is a classic. I'm craving one right now.

These guys are awesome! Great burritos and tacos! They also always put up with me when I am drunk and want to make difficult half and half burrito orders (Highly recommend half lengua half pepper stuffed with cheese and add sour cream). I always find everyone very friendly. I wish it was a little cheaper but the place is always busy so I can't blame them!

With 3 locations to choose from within a 1 block radius...it looks like i luckily stumbled into the highest-rated one. Fast, cheap, casual, no-frills, late-night mexican food is basically good to me no matter what (unless it's Flash Taco in the Wicker Park crotch - a place that even the trashiest of eaters dont seem to condone)...so La Pasadita is favorable in my book by default. The best part of La Pasadita is chips, pico, and 2 kinds of salsa (1 chipotle and 1 verde) on your table upon arrival! I gorged myself on those and ended up not having the space to help myself to a huge platter, so I got two tasty guacamole tacos instead - left full-stomached and happy, spent about $3. Can't really complain.

I kind of understand the recent review about service, They seem to a person short or something like but I have to admit I didn't wait 40 minutes. After eating there yesterday I realized why I love coming here. The meat they use for their Carne Asada is amazing. You can just taste the difference in the quality of meat believe I've been to places where the meat is chewy or overcooked. And to compare it to a chipotle burrito under values there tacos and burritos. Good atomsphere and very vibrant and lively but don't plan to have a quiet conversation because it can get loud. Oh yeah BYOB is accepted here and no corkage fee. Love this place and come here quite often and I always leave satisfied. Try the quesadillas de norteno, I'm sure you'll enjoy them.

La Pasadita is my go-to late nite taco place. Any of the three (or is it four?) locations on Ashland and Division will do. I especially like LP for their carne asada taco. Simply two corn tortillas, onion, cilantro and hot steak off the grill. Simply delicious. And cheap. Come on a Friday or Saturday nite after midnight when they are getting ready for the after-bar crowd. You won't find fresher carne asada anywhere else. The other stuff on the menu is just OK - no worse than you will find in the 1300 other taquerias in town, but not much better. Stick with the carne asada tacos and you will be in taco heaven. Beware of the burritos if you like stuff in them. LP burritos are HUGE, but they are just meat and tortilla - no beans, no lettuce, no cheese...

Notice how most all the reviews from california are 2's and 3's? Notice how most of the 4's 5's are from chicago and suburbs? While a few people from Chicago also bring in the 2's and 3's and some really horrible ones that saw a rat or cock roach. They aren't just saying that to be mean... I take it those few DO know what good mexican tastes like, and this like many others I have seen on yelp is NOT good. Is it called mexican? Sure. Is it pretty cheap? Yes... Is it *good* mexican? no way!! The more and more I look on yelp, I keep getting the feeling looking at this review, and several others, that people here just don't know what good mexican food tastes like! That or they are always drunk when they go to eat it. Now Chicago of course has some amazing food, but the taquerias I have found are less than stellar, way more "misses" than "hits". Again, just being honest. And like one person said...this would just be a run of the mill extremely average taqueria in California, possibly even going out of business. Meat has no flavor and I highly doubt that is a real carne asada cut of meat, cilantro is pretty bland, tortillas are not good. I tried out 2 of the 3 locations, 2 on west side of Ashland. Now I see why people here like Chipotle so much, with places like this. PS Chipotle is not that good either. So here is another 2.

Today was the first time I'd been there sober and before 1am. The Super Burrito was even bigger than I remembered. I was thinking that $7.50 was a little much for a burrito, but this thing was the size of a small baby. I had sweat dripping down my face by the time I finished it. The carne asada has always been great, and today I got the beef tongue and it was delicious. Their tostadas are ok and the super tacos are as big as Taco Bell burritos. I was disappointed that the Eater Wall of Fame you enter upon finishing an Ultimate Burrito was not a literal one, but the place is still solid.

i will admit an back-in-the-day, i disagreed with someone about who had the best steak for tacos/burritos. my stance wasn't la pasadita, but i did become a convert and i accept my mistake. in the 90's i had 5 stars on this bad boi easy. but now i am stripping 1-2 stars for foolishness and out of being stubborn. you want a restaurant to stay golden forever, in your sweetest of memories, in your love for the beef of the heartland, in your love for steak again and again. the pico de gallo remains ON-POINT but all the salsas could use the old-school heat they used to brandish. la pasadita, my wreckless youth missed you and you were good, but not astounding as i recall you to be. expect mix mashed experiences by the servers and service over all. realize: they are well-intended and short staffed. the space is sparce so think hella casual with a recipe of cops, hipsters, late night drinkers, youth, people of color, and your occasional secretly curious vegan. for $8 for an horchata, a burrito or two tostadas, endless chips & salsa, you still have a good buy and a good chicagoan mexican meal.

Wowwie Wow Wow! Calling all colossal burrito eaters! You want super size? You've come to the right place. I thought Taco Burrito King had some big burritos but nothing compares to La Pasadita's. Order the steak burrito~$11. This log of a meal measures out about 16 inches and 4 inches in diameter~ 4pi x 16 inches = roughly a volume of 208 in. It's filled with seasoned rice, guac, refried beans, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and scrumptious steak. Go easy on this one big boys. Even the manliest of men cannot devour this beast entirely!

This places makes a pretty hearty and tasty vegetarian burrito for a sober person. The boyfriend got a super beef burrito which was super ridiculous in size, definitely enough for 2 people. We chose to sit down, got the standard chips and salsa, and decent service. Depending on the time of day, the people watching can be pretty good.

This is a great place. There are three locations right next to each other so you are going to get served. Its amazing. The tacos are so meaty and the cilantro is phenomenal. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Chicago who wants really really good late night Mexican food. I always try to end up here when I am starving late night. I would recommend La Pasadita to anyone!!

After reading the reviews here, I had to check it out of course. Just got back(!) from the restaurant at 1132 N Ashland. I was expecting the place to look more dumpy, but it's not bad at all. I didn't care much for the service and it didn't care about me. The tacos, horchata, and salsa are REALLY good (one star for each of those), but that might be about it. The chile rellenos was kinda okay. The chips are a bit hard. The super burrito was not too super. It's big... My eyes bulged when it came out and I started to feel a little giddy - I mean, this thing was nearly a foot long and 3.5 inches wide! Where do you get tortillas that big?! Then you quickly realize... it's not rolled up tight... it's MOSTLY lettuce and cheese... all of the sour cream and rice was on one side... NOT at all like the makes-my-mouth-water picture they have posted above the register. I'd go back for the tacos (take-out), but I think I'll try the one right next door too.

Luis F you are right this place is awesome! Thanks to you guys I crave a good relleno taco or steak burrito very often, now that I live in Dallas. I have been going to La Pasadita for about 10 years. I like to go to the two that are on the west side of Ashland. My favorite thing to get is one relleno taco and two steak tacos, I know it's a lot but I can't help it. Your horchata is also very good and definitely you won't need a refill when you order the large. I read an article where Nicholas Cage visited and he was just raving about the food, great work guys. Next time I go to Chicago I will try to stop by either La Pasadita or Las Asadas.

  • Chris K.

Okay seriously why are there 3 restaurants with the same name right next to each other. Which one is the best? I don't know, so far I've been to both of the ones on the west side of Ashland. Both are your classic seedy late night burrito joints. I would definitely suggest ordering to go. The burritos at the La Pasadita closest to division on the west side was definitely the best of the two, haven't been to the one on the East side yet. I suppose I should probably be embarrassed if at some point in the next year I can lay claim to having a detailed & passionate opinion about which of the 3 La Pasadita's is the best.

    (2)
  • klassy k.

i have no idea which of the three la pasadita's this is a page for, but i dig the sit down one, where you get chips and salsa, a giant styrofoam cup of water (sorry, environment), and table service.... i have to stop myself from eating their tacos for dinner every night. they're simple, but so is perfection sometimes. and the black sauce? please fill my coffin with the black sauce when you bury me, i love it so.

  • Arthur L.

I've had about every combination of burrito and love them all. The only thing that sucks is if your burrito splits due to a bad wrap job or too much stuffing, you're pretty much screwed. Forget trying to eat it with the cheapo plastic forks and knives they provide. Salsa is also great - and HOT. Please don't come here if your idea of an excellent burrito comes from a chain owned by Jack in the Box or (until 2006) McDonald's (Qdoba/Chipotle) , you probably won't appreciate it.

I just moved from Los Angeles, so Chicago burritos have a lot to live up to. That said, I only recently started ordering burritos, so I'm no expert...Their size intimidates me, so I usually just stick with tacos. But today I really wanted something filling...meat, rice, beans, hot sauce, all in a brown paper bag. YUM. I'd been told that this place was good and whne I accidentally drove by it, I decided that it was fate. I ordered an asada burrito, added tomato, and had them hold the cilantro and onions (ew). My order came up quickly and I was out the door! When I took my first bite back at the office, I was like "Oh! There's a lot of meat at this end!" I chewed and chewed and chewed. Took another bite..."Wow...Still so much meat crammed into this end of the burrito!" Chew, chew chew...Another bite..."WHERE THE HELL ARE THE BEANS AND RICE?" Seriously, I've never had a burrito that doesn't come with beans and rice it in...WTF? Who wants a flour sock fulla beef? The hot sauce was good, they actually remembered to hold the onion/cilantro (yay!), but I got through about 1/4 of that beast before I had to call it quits. YIKES. I'd go back, but I'd definitely add rice and beans. Which is weird, but apparently how Chicagoans like their burritos.

Steak tacos are the BEST! I wish the drive was so much closer to where I live, otherwise I'd frequent this place more often...or should I say every other day! The steak is seasoned well and for the price it sells for, can't beat that! I remember when the burrito was only $3.75, but that was about 8 years ago. You have to try this place and there's 3 of them, next door to each other, but one across the street. Whether you are looking for a place to coat your taco cravings or you stumble at this place when you are DRUNK...the food taste the same!

  • Lena G.

When first walking into La Pasadita you notice that the food must take center stage because the atmosphere does not. Fluoresecent lighting and school bus yellow booths aren't my taste, but that's not what you come here for. Amazing menu with some of the biggest and best prepared burritos around. Patient staff who are fast and friendly. Expect a late nite feeding frenzy due to places like Evil Olive being right around the corner . I suggest everything on the menu but the burritos are the real star . Wrapped with your choice of meat(or veggies for the vegetarians out there ) go for the super and they'll wrap it up with guacomole, sour cream and rice. Yum!

I dream of these tacos at least once a week. I've also recently begun to dream of the guacamole and the horchatas. Here's my suggestion on what you should order: 1. Get some guacamole with the free chips and salsa. 2. Order 3 tacos, onions and cilantro. 3. Wash it down with an horchata. 4. Enjoy the best tacos this side of Mexico.

This review is for the one that does mainly carry-out business and has the extremely limited menu on the west side of Ashland. My friend swears these are the best in the city so I decided to pick some up one day. While I have to agree they are delicious, they are also a bit too greasy for me and I'll definitely remember to ask for other ingredients the next time. It's almost like eating a mouthful of meat wrapped in a corn tortilla. Would I return? Definitely. In truth, this is probably a 3.5 star review.

I've been to all three Pasadita's This place is great for the Sunday afternoon Burro and for late night snacks. I also go in sometimes to get some of the home made chips they fry in the basement to bring home to make my won nachos. Always nice for my veggie pals, they will make it on a separate surface if you ask. They also don't mind if you practice white boy spanglish on them... So great!

In a moment of total foodie touristry, I went here because Gourmet magazine called it the best place for a 3 a.m. steak taco. It was near where I was staying so I dropped in on a Friday night for an 11 p.m. carne asada taco. Yes, it was absolutely delicious and under two dollars. I'm sold.

This place confuses me because there are 3 on the same block. One won't take credit card, one doesn't have chicken, and the last doesn't have either. After a night of drinking I want chicken and use my cc, so needless to say it was frustrating, but three was a charm and the enchiladas were to die for!

  • Ray D.

This is the one you go to to sit down, get your free chips, and order burritos. They have a new one on the menu that is irrationally large. I won't be ordering it, but it was ridiculous and somewhat impressive to see. No al pastor here, sorry. Go next door for that. (Just to the north, not across the street.) Nikki, you were mianly suffering from the staff's expectation that you knew what was up. Next time, read up on Yelp or ask someone who knows what is up.

  • Rayid G.

The best carne asada (steak) tacos I've ever had. Chile Relleno isn't bad either, but the tongue tacos are a little bland. They keep it fresh and simple - excellent steak, onions, cilantro make a perfect taco. Mmmmm....

this place fell off big time! espeically the sit down one with the waitresses. i used to sell chiclets gum in here in the early 90's when i was kid. food was great! now it seems like every time i come the food and service gets worse and worse. there prices went up alot but thats not my issue with them. the meat is starting to taste more and more like rubber the chile rellenos are getting soggier and soggiier the hot sauce is literally turning into water , mabe cause ther freezing it or somthing and waitress have got the shittiest attitudes. id come and spend 60 dollars in tacos for every one at work two or three times a week and ask for a big cup of (now watered down) hotsauce and thell try to charge me 4 dollars for it. ill order 25 tacos and thell give me 5 tiny cups of hotsauce. breaks my heart to see them the way they are now.

HOORAY! Great Mex in Chicago. But make sure you go to the "correct" La Pasadita. There are three of them on the same block. Quite confusing. This is definitely a hole-in-the-wall so if you are a decor snob, get takeout. I have been searching for a downright authentic Mex place since I moved here from California. I am shocked and sad at how many people in Chicago only go to Mexican places for late-night grub. That's such a shame. A good Mex place shouldn't just be a late-night joint! You will barely hear a word of English in this place. The kitchen was blasting a Mexican radio station, and when a good song came on, they turned it up and everyone in the kitchen started singing along. That made me smile :) This is definitely a place where the locals go so I was encouraged by that. Service is TERRIBLE. Make sure when you walk in you make eye contact with a server so they know you want attention right away. Otherwise, you will wait a very long time for someone to approach your table. When I was there a table of young girls dined and dashed. I actually saw them get up, and seriously, the server didn't notice for a good 5-7 minutes. She grabbed the check and ran out the front door, looking for them and looking completely perplexed. Um, well, if you actually gave attentive service that wouldn't happen... All I wanted was a simple bean burrito. Yep, just beans, cheese, and salsa. The server brought chips and a variety of salsas to the table--a salsa fresca of fresh tomatoes, onions, and cilantro, a medium-spicy green salsa, and a spicy dark green (almost black) salsa. All of them were outstanding and so tasty. So far so good. Then I decided to be adventurous and order something I never order--a steak taco. I don't know what came over me--it just sounded good at the time. The taco consisted of two warm corn tortillas with perfectly seasoned steak and a little bit of cilantro and onion. Wow, it tasted really good but the steak was rubbery. I found myself chewing, and chewing, and chewing. What do you expect for a $2 steak burrito? Probably not the highest quality steak but downright tasty. Then I ordered a bean burrito. The server looked at me kinda of strange when I requested only beans, cheese, and salsa but hey, that's how I judge a burrito. I couldn't wait to dig in...it was the moment of truth. It was delicious! The tortilla was soft and chewy (not like some other places that grill the tortilla..ick), the beans were perfectly seasoned, and I had more of that yummy medium green salsa in it. BRAVO! The bean burrito was only $6.50 and my Diet Coke was $1.00. And yes they have real Coca-Cola products because they serve them in cans. If you are wondering why I didn't give this rating a full 5 stars it's for two reasons: 1) I think the place is in need of a good cleaning, and 2) when you leave you will have BFS (bad food smell). It's a small little restaurant with an open kitchen, and I could actually smell my lunch on me when I was in Best Buy an hour later. eek. I might have to invest in an, "eating jacket" (equivalent to a smoking jacket) when I go back to eat there!

I shocked that the health department has not close this place down. One time, my fiance, a couple of our friends and i went in to eat. As we sat down waiting for the food to come, a roach crawled right in front of us on the table then onto the wall and made its way into the kitchen area. We walked right out and haven't been back. Who would???!!!

I went here with high expectations based on several friends' reviews, and left not merely disappointed, but disgusted. The location was dirty and the service poor. I can overlook those problems if the food was good enough, but this was the worst tacos I've had in Chicago. Cheap, fatty meat with little flavor, bland tortillas, and lousy salsa all make this place somewhere to avoid. Eat at Lizard Tacos futher down on Ashland, or at some place in Pilsen like Nuevo Leon instead. I can't see how this place stays in business.

  • Matt C.

Considering that this place is barely a hole in the wall in kind of a run down area, the tacos and burritos are surprisingly good. When you first walk in, the area looks kind of dirty, the staff is marginally helpful, but let me assure you, the food is delicious. So basically if you're looking for a little late night mexican dining, head to this place. It'll do you right (until later that night.)

I guess I just don't understand the hype? I've eaten here about 6 times now and everytime I try a taco, the tortillas are always soggy and the veggies never seem fresh. If I'm nearby and hungry, then possibly yes, but I wouldn't make this a destination place.

  • Alexis P.

I think this is the one that I usually go to, but either way, I'm pretty sure they all rule, it just depends if you are looking to sit down or not. The quesadillas are the thing to get here for me. Mouth-watering delicioso.

After hearing about this place for years, I finally got around to trying La Pasadita. With so many options for Mexican food in the Wicker Park area alone, I assumed La Pasadita had to be the best after hearing about it all the time. I was definitely way disappointed. I had the chicken tacos and a side of rice. The chicken was cut into large chunks (instead of shredded, which is my preference) which made it difficult to eat. It was also slightly dry and didn't have much flavor. The tortillas were good, the veggies were fresh, and it was not at all greasy, but these things didn't make up for the meat. Maybe the steak taco is better? The rice was good, but nothing special. La Pasadita's saving grace is that it's cheap and it's open late. It's not bad, just not worthy of the rave reviews it seems to constantly get. Try it if you're in the hood, but it's not worth a special trip.

Really yummy tacos, but the barbacoa is kinda fatty and gelatinous, which is sad, because it'd be DELISH otherwise. Never had the steak. Maybe next time. The green sauce is great.

This place is amazing! These are the best tacos de asada that you I've had anywhere in the country! Wow... even when I used to live in Milwaukee and I came to Chicago on the weekends, I would bring some of their tacos to my friends because they loved them so much!

  • Adam P.

Oh La Pasadita. Where the steak tacos taste like a steak dinner. One taco is equal to two normal tacos, but feel free to pay a dollar more for a super taco. You've got 3 choices for burritos: There's a regular one bigger than a Chipotle burrito, a super burrito that is almost twice that size, and the ultimate burrito (twice the super) for when you feel like eating 4 burritos in one. You've got 3 choices for restaurants: the main one at this location which is full size and full menu. There's another location 2 doors down with burritos and tacos. Across the street from that one there's a third location that only sells tacos. You must go here.

So simple, yet SOOO GOOD! I love a good taco, especially after a night out with friends, but La Pasadita is not just any taco joint. I've actually left a bar early with friends to get our Pasadita on, in fear that they might run out of meat. Believe me when I tell you, it happens. And all you're left with is a broken heart, an empty stomach, and lengua. Before La Pasadita, my idea of a "great taco" was "the more, the merrier": lettuce, tomato, cheese, rice, beans, guacamole, etc. NEVERMORE. I like my tacos simple (onions and cilantro), which leaves more room for the good stuff, THE MEAT. Oh that carne asada is so good! The way they cook the meat with so much flavor, you don't need the "etc" to spice up the dish. And don't forget about the barbacoa. So tender and fatty, you'll need a chaperon to keep you in check. What the hell...EAT AWAY!

Oh, how horrible. Went last night at 9ish pm and was starving. Just a side note, I usually and have in the past always gone to De Pasada a couple storefronts down. Amazing food and owner is very nice. From what I know, La Pasadita and De Pasada are all somehow in the same family. Anyway, going to La Pasadita, against my better judgement, was disappointing. I realize they they were highly rated by NYTimes in November 2007, but I can't see how it was so. I even felt that I was cheating on De Pasada and it made me tepid with anticipation. Well, only when I got my food at La Pasadita, did my feelings turn into queasy stomach from the food. I ordered 3 veggie tacos and quac on the side. Well, first thing, the chips and pico was good, however, the green sauce was beyond horrible and the brown sauce was marginally better. The tacos lacked any flavor, and just tasted like mush that would be the result of being in the stomach broken down. No amount of horrible green sauce would have helped. I got home after and was incredibly thirsty... why? It wasn't because I had a glass of water there or the milk drink... no, it was because there was SO much salt in all the food. Felt as if I licked a Salt Block. Don't go here. Do yourself a favor and go to De Pasada on Ashland. You won't regret it.

I have no idea what to compare this place to because in Seattle we don't have a lot of good, authentic Mexican food. But these little things were really tasty. I tried the carne asada taco and the other taco with beef in it; both were good and distinctly different in flavor. Be prepared to have your fingers smelling like meat juice for the rest of the day! I do think the price is a bit on the high side for street food, but not so high that it detracted from the experience. It's just that the cheapness of good street food adds to the experience of making you feel like you are getting away such a deal. Here, you are feel like you're paying for what you get.

A living legend. Carne asada taco with the black salsa. Or lengua taco. Or chorizo burrito if you want to get dirty. Best carne asada i've ever had. I have had better chorizo tacos, but the carne asada taco with the black salsa is immaculate.

Coming here since 1988 - way too may years... BY FAR the greatest taco on earth - well Definitely the States - as I have had some amazing ones on the streets of Mexico. Common ritual: +One Barbacoa Taco everything (means cilantro, onion and hot sauce) plus cheese + One Carne Asada Taco with everything (means cilantro, onion and hot sauce) plus cheese And then you are very happy sitting at the east side location (yes - 3 locations right across the street from one another - confusing, but who cares when its THAT good) - its my fav - but sometimes hard to get a stool at the tiny tiny counter - second choice location would be north on the west side. Enjoy!

Best tacos I have found anywhere, with the possible exception of some of the Pepe's on the south side--but, those are pretty inconveniently located for me. Pasadita is awesome, simple menu keeps you from making bad choices, since there really aren't any. Always fast, always fresh, and you can taste the individual ingredients. FYI, about half of the reviews listed on this page are for the other La Pasaditas (next door and across the street). As for those who have griped about the price, I don't get it--the ingredients here are way fresher than you will find at most taco/burrito places, and at $7 for a burrito and $2-$2.40 for good-sized tacos, it's pretty difficult to come up with anything close to an expensive meal

So I was hanging out with my friend in Chicago all afternoon into the late night. We hit up some Chinese place that was excellent, had sundaes at Margie's Candies, and then he forced me to come here to have a taco even though I was stuffed. I wasn't impressed with the overall semi-lack of cleanliness but it sure was crowded. Oh boy, was I glad I came though. I only got one carne asada (steak) taco y arroz con frijoles (rice and beans) but it was AMAZING. I haven't had such a good taco since I don't know when. It came on two little tortillas and I put some pico de gallo on it. It was stuffed so full that I couldn't get a handle on that greasy little sucker. But once I took that perfect first bite, I couldn't put it down. All memories of binging previously that day were gone and I went to town. The rice and beans weren't as impressive but what could be next to that taco??? I am traveling back next week to Chicago and am insisting we come here for a late night snack...or huge meal. 4.5 stars!

Ambience is whatever, but dang this food is good. I was even talking with an Auto Zone guy all the way up in Niles, IL and he was like Whenever I want to eat really good food, I go down to La Pasadita. The dinner plates are around $10 but you will receive SO MUCH food. So good. Love the grilled vegetables and fajita skillet plates.

Oh god, am I reviewing the right one? There are 3 of these right next to each other. So confused. Tastes like tacos do at taco joints in San Diego. Delicious juicy grilled meats with some onions and cilantro sprinkled on top, wrapped in a warm corn tortilla, like it should be! Nice and simple. Service is super quick. As for cleanliness: it's a taco joint. What can I say? It doesn't look like I'm gonna get food poisoning, and that's good enough for me. Parking can be kinda' a bitch tho, not gonna lie. Especially since that lot next door is all gated up now. Waaack. Altho I'm pretty sure some shady shit goes down here. I took a friend here, who was visiting Chicago for the first time, and she forgot her wallet in the restaurant. We went back to see if they'd seen it. We had to talk to the boss's BOSS, who said they found the wallet. They took us to the building with the barred and boarded up windows between the restaurant and the fast food store. At the door, a big ass dude came out and said "wait here", and held his hand up like a bouncer. But yo, they came out with her wallet, so that was nice. And then immediately closed the door. The end. Delicious tacos.

The evening we arrived in Chicago my friend took us here.We were starving, and wanted food fast. I have to admit I was really surprised by how many taquerias there are in Chicago.Who knew??? This is my friend's fave in the neighborhood,so we were excited to try it. I was a little disappointed that there was no fish, or shrimp on the menu. Maybe it's a regional thing, not sure. Service was fast, and even though they screwed up my order they redid quickly and without any fuss. I had the chicken super taco, it was good. Not great, but good, and seriously cheap. Alos, they are open REALLY late!

I will only go to the 1141 building. It may not look like much and the neighborhood is not good but the food is fantastic. I love this place. If I am nearby I will def make a pit stop. I always buy extra for the next day. Delish!

  • Chrisna A.

Compared to all of the taquerias within walking distance, it is pretty expensive. A burrito, which comes with onion and cilantro at no extra charge, is north of $8, and a taco will cost almost $3. The best part about this place is that it is consistent whenever I've gone: before the lunch rush (11am), after the rush (2pm, 3pm, etc.), dinner time (8pm), and really late (2am). Although Tierra Caliente a few blocks north on Ashland produces a better taco during the lunch rush, I come here more often because I can trust it.

Authentic Mexican food with an authentic Mexican atmosphere. There are 3 La Pasadita locations all right next to each other, and 2 are just quick late night take out spots, while this one is an actual sit down restaurant with menus and servers. My chicken tacos were so good I don't even know how to describe them. It felt like I was back in Mexico getting cooked for in someone's house. Homemade Mexican food at its best. It's so hard to find places that really taste authentic, but this place does it. I can't wait to visit Chicago again so I can go back for more. I've been craving those tacos since I ate them a week ago. Delicioso!

It's late night on a Sunday, so my expectations aren't high. Just moved in this neighborhood, so had to check out the local mexican joints, especially that which has 3 joints right next to each other. Very misleading. After waiting over 30 minutes in an empty restaurant for takeout, there was already a bad taste in my mouth. I hoped the quesadilla would rid that. Nope, super soggy quesadilla didn't help. The chips and salsa that were missing made it worse. The burrito with sour cream and cheese loaded at the butt so that every bite had none except the last pissed off my boyfriend. And it was cold. And $19. Angry. All of these other 'great' experiences make me wonder why our Sunday night jaunt was so unsuccessful. I guess it's hit or miss at this place, but I won't try again to see if we get a hit. Mexican is too easy to come by in this town and I won't settle for disappointments!

This is not a health food restaurant. The salsa, the black sauce, is the best salsa in the city. Go to the La Pasadita on the west side of the street and farthest south. Totally awesome. Great late night spot.

La Pasadita....Papa Likes. If you are looking for some freaking serious Mexican food, this is the place to get it going. It's a little confusing when you get there, because there are 3 locations and although I'm not quite sure what the difference is between them, the one I went to was fantastico. I ordered the torta con carne asada y tres tacos and the food was slamming. The service was a little suspect, but my buddy assured me that I was there on an off day....so I'll let it slide this time La Pasadita. A great lunch spot and if you are trying to get some real deal Holyfield mexican food, this is the spot. Boom (in spanish)!

I've been here drunk - YUCK. I've been here sober - DOUBLE YUCK. I haven't tried it both high and drunk. Maybe that's the secret to all these 5 star reviews. These places (I'm referring to all three) are just disgusting. All three locations are filthy with bad service. They stuff tortillas with only dry meat and a ton of cilantro and onions. It is very reminicent of what I think Alpo would taste like without the sauce. I got a plate lunch once and it was basically a slab of underseasoned, stringy, overcooked Grade D meat oozing grease all over the plate. Yuck again. I lost my appetite just writing this review.

It hurts me to rate this place so low because their breaded steak (Milanesa) is so good, but damn, their service is letting me down. The last 2 times that I've been here, they've gotten our orders wrong. - The first time, my friend wanted the Milanesa Dinner, no tomatoes. Instead, they brought out a Milanesa Torta w/ tomatoes. - Then last night, we order the Milanesa Dinner. My friend said, "Milanesa" pointed at it on the menu, the waitress nods. I order the same thing with a side of extra cheese. She nods again. When the food comes out, she brings us two Carne Asada Dinners, no extra cheese. It tasted fine and all, but that's not what we ordered. You know what that's like? Its like wanting a PS3 for Christmas, getting the PS3 box, but inside is a really nice sweater. Nice, but its not what I wanted. I'm definitely going to come back here when the opportunity arises, I just hope they get my order right. Will I have to write it down for them? I hope not. I'm still jonesin' for some breaded steak. There is a place near my house that has it, not as as good, but at least they get my order right.

As usual, a Mexican restaurant botched Victoria's order. I don't know why, but Mexican + V + KZ = screwed up order. She ordered the chile rellenos dinner and was served two carne asada tacos. HUH? Anyway, I couldn't understand much of what the server was saying, but the tacos were to die for. V really enjoyed her platter once the staff replaced it. We both loved the tortillas and were amazed by the size of La Pasadita's burritos. Not to be outdone, their large lemonade is a bladder buster.

Que the meat (barbacoa is my favorite), fresh onions and cilantro and play me the violin. These tacos makes me wanna cry they're so good. I can't tell you which one of the identical looking location is the original or the best. I just know that it's one of the best drunk food in the city. It is cheap. It is authentically Mexican. It is definitely not gourmet or fancy so it is best in the sense that you don't feel cheated for your money. It's tasty and easy on your wallet. Not a nice, sit-down place, although they do have seating. Please, don't expect what you haven't paid for.

A REAL GOOD Mexican carryout. The Horchatas are fantastic, The Barbacoa tacos are great, The Burritos are wonderful. A great carryout place for Mexican food. It CERTAINLY eclipses that Authortarian Communist hijacked, Super corporate inspired place that gets over exposed for their junkfood knockoffs that get the mislead flock to line up for in cars, etc. But FOR your $$$$$, THIS place goes a LOT further.

My sister lives in Boston and before she moved, she had eaten here a few times. And since then, she has been craving it. Over Christmas, she was in town with her husband and the three of us went there since she could not leave here with out it. I had the steak tacos. No cilantro. They were definitely tasty and I could see why she craved it, My most recent visit was carry out for my friend and myself. Steak tacos again and a large guacamole with chips. Now the part of this place I don't like is that there are 4 locations next to or across the street from one another. I called a differeent location and was told when I picked it up that I had to go to this one. So confusing and annoying since I had to cross over Ashland. Chips were also extra which I found strange. How else were we suppose to eat the guacamole? Still cheap and tasty so I can't complain too much.

In college when I spent a couple weeks couchsurfing with friends in Chicago, La Pasadita kept me alive. Three tacos and a horchata? Don't mind if I do.

I've only been here for takeout so I can't really comment too much on the service, but the food is awesome. Got takeout for myself, fiance, and two friends the other night. When I picked up the bag of food, it was about as heavy as a sack of bricks. I took that as a good sign. Everyone but me had burritos, which they all said were very good and were made to their specifications. I had three tacos: barbacoa, pollo, and chorizo. The barbacoa taco was so good I wish I had ordered three of them. The chorizo one was good but after a couple bites, I couldn't really eat that much chorizo (they stuff it pretty full). The chicken was good but fairly standard. But the barbacoa...mmm-tender and delicious. The sauces that came with were stellar - but not for the faint of tastebuds. Pretty spicy - and this comes from a girl who tries to find a way to make just about everything "extra spicy." I didn't find any of them too spicy but others in my group did. The chips and salsa didn't blow me away but they were adequate. The piece de resistance though, was the horchata. I ordered one to sip on while I waited for our food to be ready. I finished it in about 3 minutes it was that good. I of course ordered another one to go because that's what all normal people do right?

La Pasadita has the best tacos in the city. Last night, I ordered 3 but ended up eating 5. I probably shouldn't have done that. My sister and mom gave me one taco each. You cannot let that stuff go to waste. It is so freaking good!!!! Steak taco is the way to go. If you have strange friends who prefer chicken over beef, 1132 is the only one with chicken. 1141 is the original, but seats are limited. Strangely, the prices vary few cents from location to location.

Awesome food. The food here is really good and very authentic. There are 3 of them within the span of a block, but my favorite is the southernmost one on the west side of Ashland. I've only had the burritos and quesadillas and they were soooo good, I'm craving them right now. I remembered seeing it on Check Please and stopped there once while running errands; I now make special trips just to get my mexican fix. In addition to being awesome, the food is reasonably priced.

Three words: BEST DRUNK FOOD. I'm sure it's still really good when you are sober but at least when you're drunk you welcome extra guacamole, cheese, and sour cream w/o worrying about how fat your ass will be the next day. Worry free feasting! First off, GET THE CARNE ASADA ANYTHING..... tacos, burritos, all of the above w/ the carne asada. It is the super yummy smell you smell walking up to the place from the outside. You can see the smoke billowing out of the roof carrying the steak-smell all over. Get it. Now. You will not be sorry. You eat chicken every fucking day of the week anyway, right? Tacos are cheap (~$2) and good served tacqueria style w/ onions & cilantro w/ the option of adding guac, sour cream, or cheese for $0.50 extra. If you do go for the burrito, you must get the SUPER BURRITO (~$8.00). It's like eating a pair of small children. This burrito makes Chipotle burritos look like the skinny weird kid at school. If you get the super burrito, not only do you have 4th meal taken care of, but when you wake up at noon the next day, you will still be full from the night before, AND on top of that, you now have dinner for the next day b/c there is no freaking way you ate the whole damn thing w/o vomiting (although you want to). They cut the pair of children in half so you can easily eat Hansel and save Gretel for the next day. The place is a dive in that awesome kind of way. The free chips and salsa are delicious. Very fresh, similar to pico de gallo. They give you squeezable condiment bottles full of unlimited salsa verde (the hotter sauce here) and tomatillo salsa (the black looking one). What's not to love?!

This place has gone from good, to so-so, to downright disgusting. Last time I was here, their steak was flavorless and rubbery, the tomatos in everything were extremely underripe, and I literally couldn't eat the chorizo, it was so gross. I felt nauseous after my meal. I retract my previous statement; I WOULD take my chances with an anonymous hole-in-the-wall taqueria over La Pasadita. Completely. I've totally learned my lesson and I won't be back.

Now I've been to the La Padasita on Elston and it's one of my favorite places in the city. This La Pasadita was good but not quite the same. I had the carne asada burrito, and I must say it was still pretty on point. Make sure to ask for everything you want in it because they won't but most of the basics in without asking. I will defiantly be going back to this place. Also, the horchata here was literally the best I have had yet in the city, smooth and just darn good.

Best tacos in Chicago. This place is a no nonsense taco joint. They don't have a lot of options on their menu. What they have on there, they do right. Been here a few times, always gotten steak (burrito and tacos). You can watch them make the meat off to the side from the counter, and it's great. The amount of steak they put into a burrito is obscene. Add some onion and cilantro, and you're set. I don't know what the steak is marinated in, but it's fantastic. I've eaten at Big Star and De Cero, let me just say Big Star had the greatest taco AL PASTOR I've ever had (only happened in one of my 3 visits there... I almost cried it was so good. Haven't had that luck since). However, this location of La Pasadita (west side of Ashland closest to Division) is by far the best CARNE ASADA I've ever had. Bar none. Get the burrito, you won't regret it.

Their steak tacos were sooooo DELICIOUS! They were perfectly marinated and showered with fresh onions and cilantro....leave the lettuce and tomato out, please. The green salsa was delightfully spicy and contributed to a wonderful explosion of flavors as I chewed away into bliss. Mexican husband agreed, and he definitely knows good Mexican food. He had the steak burrito and my mom had the milanesa torta (breaded steak)....thumbs up from the both of them. The horchata was delicious too....thick, creamy, and sweet, just how I like it! Service was friendly and I will definitely return!

I am so, so confused. I have no idea which location I am reviewing. Trying to look at a map but that don't even help me. Does it even matter? I have no idea what kind of taco I ordered. All I know is that it came with nothing. My taco came WITH NOTHING. What did I miss? I went up to the counter to ask for sour cream. Damn, this ain't no Taco Bell, that's for effin sure. Ugh. Maybe it was because I was a vampire that nite, so I didn't get the same respect as others. But what am I missing here!!??

Great carne Asada. I've been here before but the last time I ate here there was hair in my burrito. I can deal with one hair, I can even deal with three but I just kept pulling hairs out, I asked for a new one, ate it and never going here again. You probably will go because it's famous, maybe I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.......

This place is the place where everyone get's along for a few minutes. This reminds me of "The Maxwell Street of Mexican Food". You have thugs, skinny jean hipsters, vatos locos, GDs, Vice Lords, Families all in line - all under one groove - waiting for their mouth watering tacos. Don't get the chicken, just go for the steak. No frills, no bells and whistles, just the best taco you can get in the city. Put some onions, cilantro, and lime and you're good to go. Same style of tacos they server in Mexico.

Fact: I used to Love this place Fact: I don't love this place as much as I used to; tear After being away from Chicago for two years I was pretty excited to get my late night burrito fix at a place I used to frequent, La Pasadita. Ahhh the memories, stumbling in at 2am for a veggie burrito, yum. I came in yearning for a veggie burrito but ordered chicken instead; it was just good, not great like I remembered. I went back a month or so later and ordered the veggie burrito, can't go wrong with that, right? It too was just ok. The burrito lacked the flavor and depth I remembered. One more time, this time I ordered the steak burrito, hmmm...now this is something I would be interested in (i.e. Bob Ryan from Entourage). The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. I will continue to return to La Pasadita, late night and otherwise. I give this place three stars simply because it seems to be hit or miss, it is not a "on point" as it was once. Still pretty good burritos though .

Pasadita literally kept me alive for years when I lived nearby. Now that we've moved to Humbolt Park I've been searching for a place that even comes close and nothing does. So we come here if we're in the hood. Came in this week and OH NO! $2 for the pico de gallo now?? WAHHHHH! What a bummer man. I'll just have to think back to the gallons of it I've eaten there and reminisce.... -1 star for charging for the pico guys! In some ways I can't blame them but I was used to the freebie.

***Make sure to go to the original yellow building*** This is as authentic as it gets......any more authentic and you would have to go to the taco carts/stands in the streets of Mexico. A true Mexican taco consist of tortillas, carne asada, cilantro, cebolla (onion), a slight squeeze of lime and fresh salsa and this place has this to offer and much more. This place is also great for a sober me up meal.

I just decided to check the website, and read the "about us" section, where they explain why there are 3 restaurants on the same block... Not very exciting, but still nice to know... Apparently the one I frequent is "La Nueva", the newest of the 3. The food is fine, not spectacular, but definitely hits the spot for a cheap lunch, which I take advantage often on accounta I work a block away... Service is fine too, the cashier ladies up front have warmed up to me a lot after several visits (and tips); they weren't unpleasant before, just working. Since I don't expect to be fawned over for lunch, this has always been perfectly acceptable for me. I often get the veggie taco with everything (super sloppy and "American" but yummy!), the barbacoa taco (onions, cilantro and cheese!) and the chips and salsa negra. I love that damned salsa, and the chips are good too. I got a steak torta once, and it tasted good to me!

Frickin' AWESOME!! You have to get the carne asada (steak)!!!! The original tacos are great...just meat, cilantro, and onions. But what's even better is the steak burrito. I got mine with all of the extra fixins (cheese, sour cream, guac, lettuce, tomatoes, and rice). The secret is simple...they take pride in the quality and freshness of their food. I saw the cooks carefully cutting up the steak and hand seasoning it to perfection. This place was featured on Check, Please!, and was what made me originally come here. But, now that the food speaks so loudly, it will call my name quite frequently. One last suggestion...there are 3, count'm, 3 La Pasadita's on the same block!!! I have been to two of them, and I must say, go to the restaurant one at 1132 N. Ashland at all costs!!!! For my last visit, I went to the one just north of 1132, and they had less than half the menu and no extra ingredients (how hard is it to stock lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, etc?). Plus, the place was filthy and had a table filled with salsa containers without lids on them....gross. It reminded me of a Nickelodeon Double Dare stunt.

Fantastic carne asada! Also their Guacamole is amazing and at a fantastic price. Drunk or not, this place is always great. The only confusing thing is that there are four locations within walking distance. One night after drinks, we hit up all four because the initial three ran out of steak. Thank god the last one had some left.

They are going down, but they are open late. Steak taco is filled with gristle and is tough. Service is the same "who cares" attitude and the wait for take out insane. This place remains popular, but only if there is no where else to go.

In the Carne Asada Burrito battle of SoCal vs ChiTown... Chitown, while I like you, I don't love you. SoCal reigns supreme! Here's why::: donde esta mi guacamole?! And $6.50 for a burrito?! This isn't Chipotle! Oh yeah.. and the steak was CHEWY! Is it steak?! My SoCal Robertos, Filibertos and all Ertos, Inc. is bomb! Being closer to the Mexican border does have its benefits. Sorry ChiTown, you were good but not good enough. I mean, I will still come here to get my late night fix. I like the simple menu of 4 things you can order. Make's it easy for me to figure out what combo of meat, beans, rice and cheese I want.

Amazing! Always a line out the door!! Steak Tacos: Steak: a bit fatty, lower in quality, but it still tastes DAMN GOOD! Salsa Verde: SPICY AS HELL! Delicious! Most of my memories form eatig here are of me sweating my ass off and begging for more water. I like the pain! :P

The experience here can be quite mixed, but the food is always excellent for a VERY minimal price. For $3.60, I can dine in and get a steak tostada, rice and beans, and chips and salsa - a feat not even possible at taco bell. And I can never finish it all, even when I am ravenous. This is my new go-to place for a cheap lunch or dinner for one, and it's is also a place I am happy to bring friends when we want a cheap dinner date. Here are my random thoughts/advice on the place: I highly recommend the tostada over a taco - even though the tostada is more difficult to eat, it contains many more additional (and essential) toppings to the taco. The steak tostada contains generous amounts of steak. The service is hit or miss. I've done carry out and had my food within 2 minutes, I've dined in and had excellent service, and I've dined in and was basically ignored (and had to just leave my money on the table because it was impossible to get my bill). But for under $5, that inconsistency is tolorable. I'm not exactly a fan of the interior, and it's smell turns me off a bit. A few open windows would help air out the place. But when you eat in, you get free chips and salsa. When you carry out, you don't. So I am often willing to put up with the dining room just to get my free chips and pico de gallo.

Ok, so I tried really hard and I think this is la pasadita I go to (the most North on Ashland). Yes, there are three.... the one below this one is good for drunk groups/Americanized mexican food. This location, just north, has a few items, no table service, and is always awesome. As far as I can tell, the one across the street microwaves the food from this one.. I don't know, but that's what they tell me--I've never actually been to that one. This one--assuming it is the most nothernly one... is the best. They don't have as many options as the one next door, but the workers don't seem as jaded, it doesn't take as long, and they had a few arcade games in back. I once got the chile rellno nightly (cheese-stuffed pepper, deep fried, in a tortilla) but they were killing me... so much grease.. so good. They are super nice... and I think that is my favorite part.

It's cheap. It's authentic. It's local. But it just doesn't taste as good as Chipotle. Anyone saying otherwise is just lying to themselves because they like that it's cheap and authentic and local. Meat quality is questionable, and the steak is a little chewy. All that said, the steak does have a really good grill flavor and I dig the corn tortillas. And that horchata is incredible. I got adventurous and went for the tongue taco. It was definitely tender, but I've had better flavored lengua elsewhere. The green salsa in the bottles is also awesome. Spicy and alive with flavor-probably the best part of the meal, in my opinion. Bottom line-cheap, authentic, and local. But come on, it's NOT the best taco in Chicago people.....I'm sure it would be tastier intoxicated, but then again, I'm pretty sure everything greasy is. I think el burrito mexicano will remain my go to drunk mexican food.

Steak tacos. Steak tacos. STEAK TACOS. Get them with cilantro and onions, and maybe cheese, but that's it. Then be sure to ask for extra of the negro salsa, or black salsa; it's the best out there, and douse away. You can also buy larger portions to take home. I keep getting steak tacos at other places, the only other place that even comes close (pretty close) is Perez on Randolph street. Pasadita's steak is tender, juicy, and perfectly charred and seasoned. Although there have been a couple of times where I've gone in when it's slow, and the steak was chewy, I think from sitting on the griddle too long. But this doesn't happen that often. Don't bother with chicken, or any other filling. The steak tortas are also divine! I've watched the taco prices creep up here over the years (from a buck fifty to over two bucks), so they're not the cheapest taco joint in the city, but it's worth it.

Best tacos I have had so far in Chicago! I have smelled that meat cooking when I drive by so I finally stopped in to get a taste! The meat was just as good as it smelled! One star down because they were over $2 each, but to give them the credit, they do STUFF them. I don't really understand what the difference is between the 3 different doors though...

Second review..... I changed my review from 4 stars to 2 stars. Basically because I went back for the steak tacos and they tasted nothing like the first time. The first time they had an amazing char-broiled flavor. The next time I went back there was no char flavor. Inconsistancy at it's best. Also I have a problem when they decide to sweep the floor right next to my table while I'm eating. That's just gross, particles of debri flying around. That's just nasty and rude. Go sweep somewhere else you asshole. First review..... Steak taco with onions, cilantro and the dark salsa. That's all you need. The best steak taco in the city. -1 star because the floor was filthy and because service was a little slow.

Found out about this place from a local from Chicago. There are like 3 La Pasadita restaurants in this same area, but I like this one the best (1132 N. Ashland Ave). The Carne Asada Super Burrito is my favorite. You get a lot for your money here the food is fresh and the servers are friendly. (I am picky about Mexican Food since I have lived in Los Angeles). Every time I am in the Chicago area, I go here.

Carne Asada tacos are amazing. All you need is a little cilantro, onion and some green sauce (optional), and you have one of the best tacos in the city. The Carne Asada is really well spiced, flavorful and best of all, almost always freshly grilled. This last point makes all the difference between a standard taqueria taco and La Pasadita's Carne Asada. Enjoy.

I had been here once a few years ago but nothing about the experience stuck out in my mind, so when I moved to Noble Square recently, I intended on going back. Last night the opportunity presented itself as it was the only place in the area open at 3am. Or at least it looked open. Upon walking in, there was chaos at the counter...people everywhere with no sense of a line or anything. When we finally got to order, I was told that they were no longer serving anything but tacos and burritos. How they could stop serving quesadillas is beyond me (no tortillas with cheese after midnight?). So I settled for a veggie burrito, which came out pretty quickly. Then I sat down at one of the open tables and was literally yelled at by one of the waitresses: "TO GO ONLY!" After a brief period of disbelief, I just asked if I could stay seated until my friend's tacos came out and we'd happily leave. So I waited and waited, they cleaned the table with what looked like urine from an Ice Mountain bottle, and my friend's tacos never came, but before we could ask about it at the counter, a large and douchey man came out from the back and said "You have to sit outside." I glanced over and saw that the lights were off and the outside seating was clearly closed. "I'm waiting for my friend's tacos," I replied. The man then proceeded to (one again, literally) yell at me "LEAVE! I WAS ASKING, AND NOW I'M TELLING. GET OUT!" I decided I didn't want to deal with this tool anymore so I refrained from pointing out that about 20 other customers were still happily sitting and eating or that the place was still open, my friend was waiting for his tacos, and he had no right to make me leave, but such was the case. So now I have to start a petition or something to get another Polish Triangle business to stay open late, because La Pasadita might as well not exist in my mind after that horrible experience.

Stopped by sober while on the first leg of a Nacho tour me and some friends planned out. Heard about the Chachos by word of mouth on Yelp. I wish someone had also mentioned that there are 3 La Pasadita's here.. not sure if it's all the same or three different restaurants? Luckily they'll tell you if your in the wrong place. Chachos! Take out or sit down and a lady will come round for your order. Three amigos we came for the Chachos; shared and three beverages. I tried non-alcoholic Sangria for the first time, not bad, since most people don't bother much or look around one could get away with bringing a flask & adding something to their sangria. Each table is given chips and fresh made salsa, it's got freshly diced salsa veggies and it's got a bit of a kick. Two sauces on the table in squeeze bottles although neither are hot or spicy, just levels of bland. We got chachos with steak. 2 out of 3 dug them and the other thought the meat was too tough and needed its own seasoning for more flavor. There was plenty of steak diced and spread all over, almost every chip had a few pieces on it. I wish there could have been more guacamole and sour cream spread over more of the area. And no jalapenos!? That with some cholula or alt hot sauce would've made it banging. I gotta remember to bring my own next time. Chachos are good. Next time I hope I can dine with some more explorers, the menu shows some juicy meaty items that I'd like to share and try. Those meaty platters run $20 - $30 a plate. Conveniences: Washrooms and Internet jukebox.

WHAT? THERE ARE NOW LAS PASADITAS THAT ARE NOT LOCATED ON THE 1100 BLOCK OF NORTH ASHLAND? It's true. There are two more now, much further out on the Northwest Side, one more west and one more north. But this isn't one of them. For those of you just encountering the La Pas concept, this Chicago institution used to be the only chain restaurant in the world with all of its locations on the SAME BLOCK. The three originals are still right here on Ashland, and this is one of them. On to the food: Pico de Gallo - FRESH. With crisp chips. Veggie burrito: Yummy in my tummy. Question: What's up with the front door that opens up on to the back of a booth seat? If the seat's empty and you're not looking down, the slapstick results could be hilarious/lead to a lawsuit.

Have I been hungover when I've come here? Yes. Have I enjoyed it? Yes. Do I want to be hungover and here again? YES. Greasy Mexican Food does a stomach filled with alcohol good. My hangover disappears once I down a massive burrito there. STEAK BURRITOS FTW! Also get the rice & beans... mmmmmmmm. Really though... the people are nice and the food is as good as a drunken tummy could hope for! Thank you, La Pasadita for curing Manders' hangovers for the past 2 years! Love you! Muah!

Disclaimer: I am a big gringa. My spanish isn't too bad, but I basically have only had their burritos and horchata. I promise to go to yelper Mandi G's recommended spot soon (Traspasada- a few blocks south of here), but in the meantime, here's my opinion.... There are three of these places, all called La Pasadita. This is one of the two on the west side of Ashland, the one that is more south. 1132 N. Ashland. My husband says the one that is more north on the west side does not have guac at all, which of course would be a deal breaker for us. We like the steak burritos. Get the "super burrito" for $7.50 and have left overs because it comes with nice extras like beans, guac, rice, tomatoe etc. inside. The regular burrito for me is gross because it's a huge portion of only meat and cilantro. For some that would be heaven, but I need a variety of flavors. We found the asada/steak to be a nice quality and tasty. We get to go, though they do have seating. We do not expect great ambiance. It's busy/popular, so you have to wait a few minutes for your food. We will be back, and I'll also try Mandi G's suggestion. I love yelp!

Ribeye tacos are the best ones, chicken was bland, steak was #2 on ranking. Chips with pico on the house- excellent. Cheap

Great place that has a slightly different selection than the Pasadita next door. I tend to go next door to get full meals, or this one to get a burrito or something on the go.

My favorite thing about La Pasadita is that they confuse the hell out of you by having a few locations right next to/across the street from one another. It always makes me laugh. I usually go to the location farthest North on the West side of Ashland. I love this place. They do things the way it was intended to be done. I ordered 2 steak tacos and they come with onions and cilantro. Simple and delicious. I'm a big tomato fan and had them throw some tomatoes on since I was feeling frisky this afternoon. The reason I recommend this place is that I never get those big fatty chunks of meat in my steak. There's nothing worse than digging a fat chunk out of your mouth mid-chew and leaving it on your plate for others to stare at while finishing your dinner. Besides that, the steak is incredibly tasty. Not sure what cut/marinade they use but I really love the flavor. They also have big squirt bottles of green salsa sitting out on the counter for you to grab as you sit down for a little extra kick. La Pasadita can't be beat. It's not just cheap food, it's authentic, great tasting Mexican food that you must try. Stop in anytime and give it a chance. You won't be disappointed.

So the first time I went here I was so loaded (open 24 hours!) that all I remembered was how good it was, and I wound up going back the next morning at like 10 a.m. just to confirm it wasn't an ETOH induced false positive. Two giant steak burritos and about a gallon of black salsa later, yeah, good stuff. It's that good people - and not just after the taps are turned off for the night, but even in the light of day. I'm partial to the black salsa (caliente!) but he green is delicious too (caliente!). I usually get the chicken super (burrito) but the steak is incredible too. Pork tends toward the fatty. The burritos are big. If you get the steak, go purist and just get onions and cilantro. Steak tacos have good proportions too. And often I just go there for the salsa, get a few large tubs to bring home just for me! Now, they've patched the bullet holes in the bathroom walls, got rid of the espanol-only fat guy with the sour face that used to work the register, got a new menu, and yes, I've seen the kiss of death for any city "joint" - the dreaded suburban blonde wife, minivan full of little blonde cookie cutter kids pulling up in front because they want a "city" experience (they've almost killed the 'Spoke dead). But for the most part they've kept the food the same (i.e., they haven't cleaned the grill in years). Note: go to the yellow Pasadita, not the one that has brains on the menu, and not the one across the street. If you know Pasadita you know what I'm talking about. Six flags.

De Pasada is closed on Tuesdays. It was Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo, and I had spent all day dreaming about chicken burritos. I sat down here. Chicken burrito, diet coke, and a side of guac. They give you chips, salsa and pico de gallo. They even package everything you can't eat up for you. LISTEN, PEOPLE, LISTEN. Juicy, Juicy chicken, yummy chips, fresh guac (and a lot of it)... $11 fucking dollars. Seriously. I've had tacos here before and those are good too.

I won't lie, the first time going here years ago, I wouldn't even eat because it just seemed so rinky dinky (my word, just made it up), but my significant other took me here again years later and got me hooked. Good steak tacos and horchata. This is all I have ever had from this place and it seems to be enough. I have since told others about this place and they are hooked. I am just getting caught up on writing reviews... I've known this place a looooong time, and felt bad that I never wrote a review. Now the guilt is gone.

The only reason I would ever eat here is a combination of early-morning hours (because nothing else is open in the area), a drunken stupor (because that's how I roll) and peer pressure. The food definitely hits you the next day, and hits you HARD. Makes you question life and God and if the sanitation department actually did its job. But I guess at 4 am, it does the trick. You'll just have to wait half an hour for your food.

Since moving to Chicago in August, I've been desperately missing California simple Mexican food and flavors. Before my move, there was a cheap place to get Carne Asada tacos on every corner, but now it had been months since I had anything similar. This is as good as any Mexican food that I knew and loved in Southern California. I've had the Carne Asada burrito twice now, and the steak is hot and juicy, and the tortilla is perfectly chewy and fresh. The cilantro and onions provides just the right flavor I've been craving. Since the restaurant's atmosphere leaves a little to be desired, I've only ever ordered to-go. However, its just as delicious in the car or at home. The green salsa sauce they provide is delicious and spicy. La Pasadita also offers tongue. An adventurous friend convinced me to try it, and despite my instinct, it was not bad. The texture and flavor was similar to pot roast only fattier. The experience was one of my more memorable since my move here!

If you know anyone who lives near Division/Ashland or anywhere in Wicker Park, chances are they rave about La Pasadita. I've been listening to people sing the praises of La Pasadita for years; so, when I finally went there recently for the first time, I was disappointed. I ordered chips and guacamole, a chicken taco, and a steak taco. The guacamole was good. The chips were stale. The chicken taco was mediocre. The chicken was dry and had little flavor. The steak taco was pretty good, though. The veggies on both tacos were fresh. Overall, not a bad experience, but my food did not live up to the hype or my expectations. My conclusion: What's the big deal? It's average food at average prices.

GAROSS. I just ordered steemed beef tacos and while the meat was OK tasting I didn't eat the third one because midway through the second I bit into a giant piece of fat... and I hate the consistany of fat from meat. Plus, 3 tacos for 10$ is rather pricey, actually. I mean, theres not much to say other than that, I'll never be back... honestly, I'd do Taco Bell first.

Used to work just around the corner from La Pasadita so I fell in love with this place. Would always go for some tacos or burritos for lunch, after working late or while out in wicker park. That was about a year ago. Rewind to a few weeks ago. The place is different. Steak is still good but greasy. No chips and pico de gallo while I waited for my meal. It just wasn't as good as I remembered. Not really bad, just not good enough to justify 5 stars. If I could I would give another half star for being open really late and taking credit cards. I would say best late night tacos in wicker park (La Pasadita does blow away Flash Taco). Tip: Skip the chicken, its always dry. Stick with the steak. Get the super burrito, it weighs as much as a puppy but all the rice and beans soak up the steak grease and marinates itself. Yum.

This is the *southernmost* La Pasadita restaurant on Ashland Ave. This is the specific location which La Pasadita's owner most coveted when he began the restaurant. When it finally went on the real estate market, he couldn't decide which of the other two he should close. So he closed neither. I had the steak burrito this time (carry out). The burrito was savory. I used the green sauce in it, which was not as fiery as I expected. [Check me here - the red sauce {salsa rojo} is typically the milder, and the green sauce {salsa verdé} is the hotter?]. I requested tomatoes be omitted. They were. The burrito's size was average. There is a bigger burrito you can order should you want more. This La Pasadita gets a solid four-star rating, edging up to 4 1/2 stars. To get up to five stars, it would probably have to make the bigger burrito the one you should order (such that the smaller 'regular' burrito was not as good a value for the money). Transit options: View my review of the other La Pasadita.

This place is pretty darn good. Granted we were all tired from a night of dancing and walking around, but dang it hit the spot. I wouldn't recommend the Chile relleno, but the carne asade was amazing. The simplicity of onions and cilantro as the topping emphasized the seasoning on the meat and the salsa verde was spot on. I would come back again.

I heart La Pasadita!!!! This place is awesome. When I walk through the door, I feel like I've transported to Mexico. Though I admit its strange to feel like a foreigner when I'm a block away from my apartment, but what can I say, I love to travel. Soo...the details: I've been to both the walk-in place and the sit-down across the street numerous times. The only things I've ever had are the steak tacos and chips/salsa....and they are amazing. At first I thought it was because it was 2am and I'd had a few drinks, but I've been for dinner and it is just good. The chips and salsa are especially great, but you have to go to the sit-down to get them. Service is fast and nice. Ambiance is..well...divey and mexican. Who doesn't love that? 5 stars for La Pasadita. Can't wait for my next trip!

I will say that these are the best burritos in Chicago (for me, thus far) and that I am totally down for this place any time. I am bummed that they went up in price, but that is how the economy is. I have no money and the cheap places I eat at are getting more expensive. Poo. I love eating here and taking people here. Mexi- Nachos I think they call them Chachos are AWESOME for fatty din din. The Quesadilla is great. MMMMMM I kinda want it right now.

3.5 Stars. Ok, I have been to La Pasadita many times and always forget which one I have gone to. But I believe this one (the sit down restaurant one) is the best. I do not think I have been to the one across the street. We all still wonder, " Why are there 3 La Pasaditas in a 1 block radius?" I usually only get the tacos here. Steak and Barbacoa. The Barbacoa was so tender and like a soft pot roast... yummy! I ordered the tacos with cheese since that is an extra...but then they gave me ones with only cheese. (It should have had cilantro and onion, too.) So make sure to clarify your order as sometimes there may be miscommunications. The tacos were filled with meat, so much so that I thought that one would be enough for my lunch! If you haven't tried the tacos here, it is worth going to and tasting a true taqueria style taco.

Extra money for everything beyond the meat, cilantro, onions and salsa? Are you kidding La Pasadita? Two bucks more a burrito than Picante but without any of the other stuff? You have to be kidding. 50 cents for cheese? Please. When I go for a burrito and horchata I want to spend 7 bucks MAX. Sure, I'll be back when I'm drunk and not as fiscally responsible but I'm disappointed in you.

OK.HERES THE DEAL Pasadita isnt about fine dinning, it isnt about being a place that makes you feel like your in Mexico. Its all about having some meaty good tacos period!! Good meat, right off the grill! cheese, cilantro onion and tomatillo hot sauce that is awesome. come one people dont hate because they dont serve latte or expresso here. this is strictly a taco joint. Ive been coming here since I started drinking at 16t, never lets me down! Dont hate! this is tacos at its best. Haters......go to taco bell! Shake & bake seal of approval!

I only get the steak tacos, and they are delicious. At one point, I'd developed a ritualized eating holiday based on them (Taco Fridays!). Now, I'm trying to live, so I've cut back. Avoid busy weekends, as I've noticed the quality of the steak goes down sometimes. Either way, good prices and tasty food.

The Good: The spices they use in their meats are phenomenal. I have no idea what they use but whatever it is, it's good. I've been too busy eating and enjoying my tacos and burritos to even wondering what it is. I even had their $25 meat plate which is a steal for how much meat and sides you get. It can probably feed 6-8 people or just 5 bigass people. The burritos are layered nicely and even so that all flavors are tasted with each bite. This place is straight up ridiculous and a must go to if you love mexican food. The BAD: The La Pasadita right next to the largest one. I went to that 1 to try it out since a friend said it was better than the more southern 1 I normally go to. The burritos are smaller and for some reason less tasty. Also the place doesn't look as good or as clean. The UGLY: Parking. It can suck if you go at bad time. They do have parking on the side of the crappier one though but that's usually infiltrated by bums. I had a bum pretty much yell at me in some Euro language the last time I went there while his bum friend was being the Yes man for him co-signing everything he said even though none of us knew what he was saying.

It is ALL about the chachos: Freshly fried chips, perfectly crispy crunchy. Topped with beany sludge, cheese, like a pound of carne asada steak, guacamole, sour cream and more cheese.I don't know what they don't just call them nachos and I don't care, I just want to eat them - all. Their guacamole and all of their salsas are so fresh and delicious tasting. Their horchata is perfectly sweet and creamy - and their large is pretty damn big. They also have a dish of little quesadillas topped with onions and drenched in this mild orange-y sauce - scrumptiously messy. Only minus - the beef is sometimes too...chewy, kinda grizzly even... The workers here are some of the nicest ladies period. And my one real criticism of this place is that they regularly get jobbed, because even though you can pay for your food with a credit card, you can't leave a tip on the card. So you're supposed to have both on hand? I'm pretty sure that means they go without tips all the time, which is really fucked up. And the ATM there is always out of order. Bottom line, they should fix that. Other bottom line - if you can, tip very generously - they graciously deal with a lot of drunk assholes and they deserve to be tipped well. I don't know about the other two La Pasaditas. I tried this one first and loved it and now I'm afraid to try the other ones, because I know what I get here will be good.

Decent, large burritos. Very small menu; great for those that have a hard time deciding. They didn't even offer chicken or pork, just carne asada and barbacoa, along with a few vegetarian options and a chile relleno. The barbacoa is superior to the tougher carne asada. The burritos were a great size, but had way too many onions. I love onions as much (or more) than the next guy, but mounds of uncooked onions can really wreak havoc on your stomach and your breath. Be warned if you plan on going here for a low-key date! I was also sort of disappointed with the lack of preparation. We came on a weeknight around 8, and the cook just got up from his dinner, rolled up a brunch of pre-made stuff, and we were out in about 60 seconds. Would have liked that the meat was made-to-order. I'd rather explore some of the other mexican restaurants on this strip than go back.

This review is for La Pasadita, not to be confused with La Pasadita, or the La Pasidita across the street. I think there is another one on the other side of La Pasidita but I think its called La Pasidita, not La Pasidita......I just want to be very clear about that. Good solid mexican chow; good and cheap and big portions. The BEST part of La Pasidita is that if you no like, you can go the OTHER mexican joint next door, called La Pasidita, or across the street to the other mexican restaurant, La Pasidita. So many La Pasiditas here, all fine, all big burrito eatin-bad mexico radio-playing horchata swigging good times. If you are on this block, you could go La Pasidita hopping. I hope someone opens another La Pasidita right next door, cause you can never have enough mexican restaurants with the same name on the same block. Snap!

Don't know which of the 3 locations this is for but this place is the shiz-nit! I started with the lil hole in the wall joint and I was honestly scared! There were 3 fights before I finished my 3 YUMMERS asada tacos. I didn't even mind the cops and the managers yelling right next to me and the other 20 people waiting for there tacos. The next time I ventured all the way across the street to their other location and this was more of my taste. The chips and salsa were to die for and the late night crowd in there seemed a little better but great anyways. I have one more stop to make. ;o)

Pasadit is the bomb. Their burritos are a bundle of meaty goodness. I always get the carne asada with onions and cilantro. My only recommendation is that you don't go to the sit down location. For some reason I don't think the food is as good there as the take away/bar spots at the other two. Maybe I just expected more from the sit down atmosphere, but I now exclusively hit the location on the East side of Ashland. They people there seem like the burrito experts to me!

La Pasadita brings the folks from near and far to delight in their food. It's so refreshing (pun intended) to have such fresh food....pico de gallo to die for, made every day on site. I had the Super Quesadilla (the "super" comes in because the thing is freaking huge) and can I just say how awesome it tasted....mainly because all the ingredients were extremely fresh? This meal was so cheap...I almost felt bad for only paying $13 for lunch for two. Didn't know that was legal in Chicago. I'll be returning to La Pasadita soon!

Used to live a couple blocks from there. Not only is this place habit forming but there are three of them right next door to and across the street from each other. I have only ever gone to the one on the west side of Ashland that is furthest north. The one just to the south seem to have table service and the one across the street is a little dumpy and isn't much more than a counter. No nonsense traditional tacos and burritos with onions, cilantro, and their house red or green salsa. Whatever spices are in the marinade are what make them great.

  • Rosie D.

The best Steak Burrito ever! I've searched across the Chicagoland area for the best tasting steak. La Pasadita is incredible. Charbroiled Grade-A Meat....no weird fat grizzle, only the best. comes standard with cilantro and onion. if you add sour cream, cheese and tomato it's .50 cents extra per item....plan on spending close to $9 per burrito with all the fixins....so worth it....I dream about it everyday...OLE` p.s. go to the location on the west side of Ashland, just south of the old Pizza Hut at Division...it doesn't look pretty but the food is amazing.

I've been going here for years and was one of their big fans, but recently bought a deal from Reader's Real Deal that said it could be used at any of the three locations, yet my Deal voucher only had the original address (1132 N. Ashland) printed on it. I figure, that's cool, that's the one I like anyway! Went in two nights ago to get some steak tacos, and as soon as the guy sees my voucher, he tells me that they don't accept them, I need to go across the street to use it. I show him the address printed right on the voucher, he says, "Too bad, not here." So I cross the street and the guy across the street says, "You can't use that here, go a few doors down to the other location." So we had to walk down the street to the sit-down location, and I really wanted to go the original location, it feels like you're in Mexico. Oh, well, we get 4 small steak tacos to go with barely any steak on them for $13 and change. I remember the good old days...

I just had the worst experience here. I've been here quite a few times over the last few years, and I was not expecting anything like what just happened. We got there, and the place was semi-busy. We ordered one burrito to split between the two of us. Thirty minutes later, no burrito came. Neither my friend or I complained the whole time. Then we ordered a taco to go because we figured that that would take a while. The taco ended up coming 20 minutes later. Still no burrito. When I asked the waitress where our burrito was, she said, "What burrito?" We decided just to leave. I told the cashier that the service was terrible. No apology. We eyed the waitress. She was too busy looking for our order to apologize to us either. The food has been good previously, but the service was just completely horrible tonight. We left hungrier than when we came. I've been to this place a lot, but I won't be coming here again.

You have to love the place because you can eat here in a fancy dress or jeans and a baseball cap at 2 AM and not feel out of place in either. The food is average, the service is what it is. They're polite but not friendly, they want to feed you and get you out so they can feed more people. If you order the quesadillas be sure to specify Nortena, because they are sooooo much better. They come seeping in a delicious tomatoey sauce that is to die for. Or at least, to wait for. The burritos are ok. They're made to appeal to a big appetite that's not too picky. The meat is not at all tender and though it's a taqueria, it can do better by it's beef. And if not, then be cheaper on the price about it. I cannot use a bathroom that close to a dining area. Just can't do it.

I used to think highly of this place. It is open late, but the few times I've had the horchata, it tasted like crap because the machine that mixes the horchata wasn't working. I sat on gum too. The food is good, but after sitting on gum/ the yucky horchata... it kinda loose my appetite. I'll give them credit. That dark salsa is the only redeeming factor. Oh yeah.. there's a hot waitress there too.

For some reason I found the carne arsada to be a lot better at this location vs across the street (tender and not chewy). But, the barbacoa seemed to lack the spices vs across the street. No matter, both were fresh and quick and hit the spot.

I just went there on Sunday for the first time and I was thoroughly impressed! Great steak nachos (called Chachos) that were tender and juicy with a ton of flavor. My only complaint was that the guacamole on top was unnecessary. I am thankful this place is in Chicago because otherwise I would become obese because of it!

The best place to go for a late night burrito!! YUMMMMM..their carne asada burrito with cilantro and onions is so simple but so delicious! So... yeah. Service was worse than sub-par -- totally dismal. After waiting 20 minutes to order two tacos and another 20 to get them, they were totally wrong. Steak overcooked, all the wrong fixins. I don't send things back to kitchens; I worked in the industry too long to bog down an already busy kitchen, and I have gotten plenty an order wrong myself! But when I quietly asked for sides of the missing fixins for my pretty much bare taco, I was met with much disdain and huffing, only to have a couple of handfuls of stuff thrown in a styrofoam container and shoved my way. Um, ok. Chomped through the overdone steak nonetheless (who eats this stuff when not beyond starving, anyway?), trying to suck the powdery sludge of what they called Horchata through a straw. After enough attempts to satiate my hunger and thirst, I actually wanted to pay for said items and find somewhere else to achieve this goal. Another 10+ minute wait followed, even after going up to the register, wallet in hand. I'm all about not being waited on, per se, but being derided and ignored while being presented with some totally gross substitute for subsistence just ain't my jam. Sorry, La Pas, maybe another location on another day. But most likely not (though I might pop in just to jack some of that decent salsa from another poor schlub reduced to making a meal out of chips.)

I may have met my meat match. I approximate that about 1.35 cows go into every La Pasadita carne asada burrito. That's a lot of cow for one burrito. I'm a girl who can certainly hold her own in any eating competition, but I found that one order of a carne asada burrito lasted for 3 meals. I might have moo'ed after that last bite. Stuffed with nothing but beef, onions, and cilantro, the burrito is a meaty sight to behold. And at $6.50 it's quite the bargain. This is definitely the place to go if you're looking for a cheap, filling meal, especially since one order can easily be split among two (hungry) people. Enjoy, and don't be surprised if you feel a "moo" escape your own lips after conquering this behemoth of a burrito.

Now, this isn't fair. I'm not sure which La Pasadita I went to, but it was on the west side of Ashland for sure. I stopped in for some drunken tacos with a friend, and got a little bit of a culture shock. Being new in the neighborhood, I didn't realize how authentic this place would be. As I fumbled through ordering after finding out they have no tostadas, we wait next to the counter for our food. The cooks throw us doggies a bone: a delicious bone of what I now know as barbacoa. Oh my meaty goodness. I felt like I was ravaging the sample they gave us, it was so good. This is definitely the place for drunken tacos, sober tacos, sad tacos, hungry tacos, well, you get it. If you have a taco craving, run, do not walk to La Pasadita. Now, if only I knew whether the other locations have tostadas.

Had to wait for a looooong time. We waited for 40 minutes and our food still not ready. Had to cancel our order and leave. We brought my sister-in-law who was visiting us...was so disappointed and will not come back anytime soon.

BEFORE READING:This is for the La Pasadita furthest south, on the west side of Ashland Anyone who disses the burritos at this place, should get kicked down a flight of stairs. Best in the city by far. Yes, the overall atmosphere, decor, and operation looks like the work of a drunken/mildly retarded Mexican, but it's clean, and they get the one thing right. that really counts ....The Food Dammit. Arrachera = Carne Asada= Killer Burrito. Nothing too complicated about that equation. You'd think it's some highly guarded secret, but 96.3% of Mexican Restaurants in the Chicagoland area manage to screw it up. How and why only God seems to know. All in all as far as burritos goes in Chicago, this is the standard. Midwestern transplants, who don't know any better, seem to be the only people who disagree............Just sayin'

I'm not sure how to review this restaurant because they have 3 on the same block. 2 are fast, counter service places, and the 3rd has table service. But the menus are different. The restaurant has way more stuff, including rice, beans, guacamole etc., get the super burrito with all the trimmings, its at least 2 meals. Recently, my BF got me a steak burrito from one of the smaller Pasadita's and guess what was in it? Steak. A giant tube of meat. To clarify, there was only steak in my cylindrically folded tortilla. I kept taking bites thinking that pretty soon I would hit upon the other treasures hidden below all that meat, but it never happened. Who would want to eat this?

I've been coming to this Mex place for some time now. I enjoy coming here when ever I get the chance. I service is pretty quick. Seating area well it depends on which one you go too. I always get either the veggie torta or the carne asada tacos....yummy! Fresh food. Good service.

Great late night spot. I usually go after I frequent the Evil Olive. I have become good buddies with the employees. They are very friendly and hospitable when you enter their restaurant. Now I will get to the food. It is a very simple menu. Sure you can complain it's greasy and that there is too much oil, but the the taste is addictive. There are only a handful of menu items at the original pasadita I go to. Barbacoa Carne asada Tongue Chile rilleno I usually get the carne asada and the chili rilleno. The steak is so tasty, and it is simply mixed with cilantro and onion. It's super delicious guey.

2 Steak tacos, cilantro and onions only. $4.03 That's all you need to know. Don't forget extra hot sauce. I remember on several occaisions making this place my breakfast lunch and dinner. Simple, cheap and magic. Just make sure you go to the small one on the East side of Ashland as there are three of them.. on the same block.. right next to each other. The tacos are always better at the smaller, scary one.

there is a gift and a curse of living a block from a world class taqueria. The gift being mouth watering tacos and the curse being my biological composition being 68% carne asada. tips from the well acquainted: 1) vets agree that, unless your on a hot date or in need of fresh OJ, you can skip the sitdown restaurant and go for the location next door with the big yellow and red sign. 2) unless you have a healthy appetite for greasy flower tortillas, skip the gringo burritos and stick with the tacos. They're a bit healthier for you (corn tortillas over flour, negligible but we'll take what we can get), more fun to eat, and a bit more authentic. 3) little known fact is that La Pasadita has killer Guac, and if you ask for it on the side, they'll give you a little ramekin of it for 50cents that will last you atleast 3 tacos. 4) got a vegetarian back in the pad? My roommate is always pining for their chili relleno tacos which she says are the best she's had outside of mexico.

i frequent this place on the days i'm lucky enough to go to the united center for a bulls or hawks game or a concert. i've never been there drunk. this is my sober review. i'm weary of hole-in-the-wall mexican places, mainly because most aren't good. there's always something missing - the tortillas are dry, the steak is chewy or bland, etc. here, they have everything right. the tortillas are moist. i said moist. i don't even like that word. the steak is flavorful and delicious. by far, the best tacos in the city. i'm sure coming here drunk makes the tacos 100 times better.

Worst Customer Service. I've been here twice, and they have f*d up my orders three times, including the second time after they f'd up and I returned to get my order corrected, they wouldn't give me what I actually ordered and made me order again, which they STILL F*D UP! I had been walking by this restaurant for six months to and from work by the time I decided to stop in and pick up a quick dinner on the way home. I was excited to try this cheep Mexican restaurant so close to home and work. The first messed up order I chalked up to my mis-reading or not giving enough directions. I ordered beef tacos, no special directions. The menu, that I was ordering from at the counter in front of the cashier listed tacos with lettuce, tomato, onion, cilantro, sour cream, and your choice of meat. I returned home to discover my beef tacos only held ground beef, onions and cilantro...but it was delicious, so I returned next week to give a more detailed order. The second time I ordered I asked if tomato, lettuce, cheese and sour cream came with tacos and burritos. She told me lettuce and tomato did, but you have to ask for cheese, sour cream, avocado etc... So now, believing that cheese, sour cream, avocado etc., were optional add ons, and they just forgot the lettuce and tomato by mistake last time, I ordered "three ground beef tacos with cheese and sour cream, and one veggie burrito (with nothing added)". I got home to discover my veggie burrito had both cheese and sour cream...so this time I returned with the the veggie burrito in tow. I placed the bagged, wrapped, untouched burrito on the counter and explained this was not what I ordered. They actually argued with me, and refused to exchange the item. So I ordered again, "One veggie burrito, no cheese, no sour cream". I walked home, hungry and annoyed to discover sour cream on my burrito. Then opened my tacos and discovered they had avocado on them. By now it was an hour and a half after I ordered the first time and I still didn't have what I ordered. If they had been apologetic, or even were indifferent by exchanged my order, I would have been fine. But they wouldn't admit a mistake that cost me additional time and money. Sorry La Pasadita, but I won't be wasting any more money or time at any of your establishments.

I have no idea if I'm rating the correct one of the 3 La Pasadita's on the street, and didn't bother going into the one with an explanation on why. We had three kinds of tacos (carne asada, barbacoa and lingua) and I found the carne asada amazing, whereas the barbacoa was somewhat bland and I didn't actually try the lingua. There may have been another flavor, but I'm pretty sure we would've ordered it. The horchata was somewhat bland, but maybe I'm just confused as to what it's supposed to taste like. The bathroom what you might expect at a place like this. I can't imagine making the trip just for the place, but it's simple, authentic tacos done well. I bet they're better after drinking...

Really people? This place is awful and given the MANY options you have for Mexican food in this area there is no reason to go here. If you like tacos loaded with rubbery meat and less than fresh veggies by all means go here. Otherwise you'll have better luck next time at a place that doesn't microwave their tortillas. This review is all locations, silly me kept trying it.

Thought to self -- why have I been reviewing so many late-night drunk joints recently? Oh well. Up next is La Pasadita. If you've gone to any club/bar/lounge/sat on the curb around Milwaukee and Damen, you've probably heard of, or gone to, La Pasadita. If you drive a two-door BMW and your car was damaged while parked in the La Pasadita lot around 2 am last summer, that was my boy Kevin who hit you. I don't think it was alcohol induced though. Just another frantic person pulling up like a bat out of hell to grab a few La Pasadita tacos. PS - Contact me for his insurance info. La Pasadita is good. But its not so good you need to go 30 mph through their parking lot to place your order. Once inside, expect enough seating to accomodate about 10 people (at the counter), and everyone else stands and waits for their order. I usually get steak tacos, and the guy who makes them does so with the speed of Usain Bolt. He then, literally, throws them in the microwave to warm them, and off you go. While I like the tacos because they are well seasoned and the salsa is good, I'm not really a fan of my food being heated in the microwave, as opposed to being warmed the traditional way (grill, etc). The menu is limited. The tacos are a safe bet of the options, but I think you can definitely get much better in Chicago. Saying they have the best tacos in town is drunken rememberance at work. But late night, La Pasadita is toward the top of the list of mexican food options. Good talk.

Wow there's three of 'em on Ashland off Division. Yup three La Pasaditas in the same area. Which one? We picked this one, the southernmost location of this threesome. The three of us dined here on an early Friday evening, and the crowd filled in practically all of the seats in this taco joint. You get a free tray of nachos, which were OK. I enjoyed the taco dinner, with three tacos sided by serviceable beans and rice. What made the meal for me was that I was allowed to get three different fillings, with the barbacoa and chorizo being excellent and the lomo being just good. My friend had a chile relleno taco, which seems like a bizarre Taco Bell anything-goes creation, but he enjoyed the breaded pepper wrapped in soft taco all the same. The horchata was OK. The service was just OK, so watch if you got your order right, but it is busy in there and things happen. Geez, everything was OK except for the really tasty tacos with the barbacoa or chorizo filling. The colorfully rustic murals on the wall are nice too.

I was first introduced to the late night Mexican phenomenon back in college after my first "night out." So I can appreciate a good burrito or a taco and enchilada after 2AM. But for almost 8 years living here in Chicago, I was unaware of what I like to call, "The Deeta," until about a year ago when I bought a book called, "Street and San Man's Guide to Cheap Eats in Chicago." A truly worthwhile purchase, if only for it's best burrito listing of La Pasa. Since then, I'll only go to Dita for my burritos and tacos. I never realized how much all the other ones I had been going to all over the city where almost exactly the same. Packed joints, all people trying to get the same weak steak burrito with sour cream, refried beans, some lettuce and tomato. Dude! The Dita hits home with serious steak, marinated in whatever they soak it in, cilantro and onions. You want sour cream and tomato - extra homeboy. Lettuce? There isn't any on the block (just kidding - you can get it at the restaurant version down the street if you want). Burrito's big and filled with meat - more meat than any other joint in town. And then I discovered the tacos with steamed beef! It's hard for me to not walk out of there with one burrito and like six of what I like to call, "Mexican Sliders." Why do I call 'em that? Because they go down that fast, they're so good! And if they had a Crave Case of 25, I'd put it down in one sitting. Good thing they don't. So it's a little dirty, so it closes at like 2 or 3. I don't care. They cook it up for this fool. After years of being tired of the same old burrito joint here in Chicago, I'm ashamed and proud to say that I finally discovered The Dita. I won't go anywhere else for that type of food. Gracias!

The place was packed when I went in, I guess check please has helped them out. But I think this will be my first and last time here. I ordered a chicken burrito and a chicken tostada. The burrito was just a tortilla filled with chicken, no fixing... maybe I saw a few onions. The chicken was dry which made it just plain hard to eat. Even the salsa didn't help. Even at 3 am this isn't good eats. I say go to Taco Burrito Express #3 at North & Ashland they can make better food quicker.

Best steak tacos possible. The salsa is to die for, especially the darker burnt looking one. Try the chachos for added glutany. Eat the carne asada con todo tacos for the best tasting tacos possible. I am a true and loyal fan. Don't mind the clientele. It pulls from the area and there tends to be a lot of kids up way too late, like past 11:00 on Sat nights.

Best steak tacos on the planet & Ms. Pac-man under one roof. You just can't beat it. Better than any Taco Burrito King/House//#2/#3. Hands down. If you want quick & simple tacos, hit the one on the east side of Ashland. If you want the whole deal, go the the southernmost one on the west side of ashland. It's a sit down & order environment, & you can get your fave dish with all the garnishes. Chips & guac available, too. Mmmmm so good!

You pay for what you get... not here. Incredibly chewy carne asada tacos that are completely void of flavor for around $2.50 each. Walk to big star and get some $3 tacos that WILL please your palate.

La Pasadita has solved many a late night craving for this fat boy and grizzled veteran of late-night food. I can probably eat 10 tacos in a sitting, but I usually go for three to five. I love the simplicity of the tacos here and dare I say authenticity. No cheese, no lettuce, no sour cream. Just meat, onions and cilantro. The meat has a nice charred taste to it and the cilantro cleanses as it goes down the hatchet. I must add one downfall to Pasadita but one that is easily navigable. Do not under any circumstance order the steak burrito. There is so much meat stuffed into this fucker - what is wrong with that you ask? Well, if you want a pound of grease sitting at the bottom of your stomach and then at the bottom of your toilet within 20 minutes be my guest. However, if you want something tasty and easier on the bowels, eat the tacos.

  • Tuya S.

Oh the giant burrito from La Pasadita. Come to mama! When they describe it as giant these people mean it, for God's sake. For me it is a perfect combination of unhealthy serving of meat, lettuce, tomato and tasty dough. Highlight it with freshly fried chips and cilantro topped guac and you get instant food shock from massive blood flow into your digestive system. Whenever I finish my burrito (and yes I can finish mine at one seat) I feel like my tummy turned into cylinder shape. Sounds cartoonish but try it and you'll see.

Its 2am in the morning in Wicker Park.... Im a bit drunk and a lot hungry. In the near distance I can see the blinking lights of Flash Taco. I start to make my move. Wait!!! I suddenly stop...a new thought enters my head (most likely prompted by my stomach, as it was bracing for bad mexican food intake).....LA PASADITA!!! Yes, its maybe a 15 minute walk down Milwaukee Ave, but thats a small price to pay for taco perfection. I stumble away from the line of waiting Flash Tacoites and head toward taco heaven....my stomach is happy. La Pasadita. My favorite taco stop in Chicago....hands down!! The steak tacos are out-of-this-world. The meat is juicy, tasty, just plain awesome. Dont fancy up your tacos too much at this place....only a bit of onion and cilantro is needed to make the perfect taco. Grab a horchata and a steal one of those bottles of green hot sauce....and your perfect late night meal is all ready to go!!! The tacos are equally as impressive while eaten sober during the day.....which is really the true test for a taco joint.

The burritos are just plain awesome. You could probably feed a family of four on the Ultimate Burrito. As with any place that stays open as late as this place does, there are usually drunk annoying people at the 2am hour, but if you're there at 2am, you're probably drunk yourself. I always order the tacos or burritos (steak or pork) and they are always great. Maybe next time I'll try something else.

This restaurant or restauranT'S have gone from being my first choice to being my last! ..... some of the meseras are rude!!!! and serve your food with attitude! ..... I started coming here at a very young age and clearly remember how delicious the tacos and tortas were back then... now they barely have flavor the salsas are not spicy at all! which doesnt surprise me because all you find there now is white people and they dont like very spicy salsa ....... all that is left of these restaurants are the fame of the name ....

I've been going here for quite some time, just have not had a chance to write a review. Used to love this place and would have given it 4 stars. BUT on my most recent visit a few things changed that COMPLETELY changed my dining experience: 1. The salsa (cut up tomatos in sauce and onions, cilantro, etc) that used to come out with the chips is no longer free, they charge $2!!!! So now they give you some chips, the green and dark sauce, no salsa. WTH are you supposed to do without any salsa? What is the point of giving the chips? 2. The prices. Everything went up, for example, the torta was 3.35 before, now 4 I'm just super bummed that a place I used to love so much changed these things, ESPECIALLY the salsa. It threw my whole meal off. I don't know if I'l be coming back here.

DO NOT EAT HERE AFTER 9PM. I tried so hard to give them a chance. Ive come here like a dozen times during the day and its fine, but the night shift is HORRIBLE. They need new staff ASAP. Im not a picky guy but this place needs to get better staff. I went here so many times, and the food tastes COMPLETELY different at night, the cooks make distinctively smaller burritos at night, and the cashiers are so disrespectful its makes me want to throw a burrito in the window of this place. Ive waited 35 minutes for an order they said would be ready in 15 after I called in (because they are notoriously slow, even when the place isnt packed), only to find out they had my order under the counter and the gum chewing waitress didnt give a crap about actually checking. Ive had them mess my order up then switch to talking in Spanish like I didnt understand them and they dont speak English (THATS some racist crap!). Im so sick of their night shift. I know the drunks frequent this place at 2 am, but at 11pm on a SUnday night after Movies in the Park, Im just done. I wont be here again, and I suggest you all save your money. If you want authentic anyway, go to La Chapparita or Atotonilco in Little Village. At least their people have respect for their customers there.

Man Listen. It's the best, hands down. I make it a point to go here each time I visit Chi... "Deep Dish? F' that, gimmie some carne from Pasadita!" I'm still trying to figure out how they fit an entire cow into the burrito. I'm talkin 100% BOVINE. Carne Asada burrito to be exact. Add cilantro, cheese, and guac... we have ourselves a winner. You're gonna need a day to let the digestive system readjust after this one. You probably cut about 2 days off of your life if you finish the whole thing :-p I haven't been there in almost 3 years, but I can still taste it! And its CHEAP!

I recently went to 2/3 of the la pasaditas. Why there are three in the first place I have no idea. One of them only sells beef. You can get a pulled beef, chunky beef or beef tongue taco or burrito. What the heck? Tacos were alright but nothing to run home about. Green hot sauce is pretty good. The other la pasadita next door serves a larger variety of generic mexican food. The food was pretty good but the meat was not trimmed very well and I got a bunch of nasty chunks of fat in my enchilada. Free chips and salsa throw it another star.

The best tacos. Ever. Amazing. I crave these about once a week. Go to the little yellow hut on the east side of the street. Sit at the counter and enjoy your authentic carne asada tacos, and if you'd like ask for extra limes. Just perfect. And the Chile Rellano in corn tortilla is pretty amazing too.

  • Laura A.

I don't know why there are 3 La Pasaditas. Truth is, I don't really care because they are all delicious and they throw tacos together faster than I can perform any instinctual task; however just keep in mind that if you ask someone to meet you there, you should probably be specific...especially at 2 in the morning. I usually end up with several tacos that I cannot eat just because ordering 7 barbacoa tacos for $10 just seemed like a great idea at the time...

La Pasadita surpasses any burrito, taco, or chile relleno I've ever had. I usually order a carne asada burrito, and the worst thing that's ever happened was a lil too much cilantro. The only way you would get a better experience is if you had one of the Pasadita cooks in your own home! Enjoy!

I should've taken a hint when the two fellows in front of me left because no one acknowledged them nor took their order. I was hungry, and a friend who lives around the corner swears by this place. Maybe my burrito expectations are too lofty, but, methinks a burrito should be more than meat, cilantro and onions wrapped in a burnt tortilla. You read that right -- the tortilla was placed on the grill, for far too long, giving it a certain char I like to call "burnt". Then, the kid behind the counter barely looked at me, and when I ordered a carne asada burrito, he asks, flippantly I might add, "cilantro and onions?" I think to myself, sure, I like cilantro and onions, and I said, "Sure." Little did I know my burrito would be stuffed with ONLY beef, cilantro and onions. No salsa. No Lettuce (which I usually pass on). No tomato. No beans. No rice. It was the equivalent of a massive taco, just wrapped closed. The meat-steak was very tasty, but the 7 1/2 cups of onions kind of overpowered any other flavor I may have experienced. Oh, and I had to ask for salsa -- it was the green kind. And, it was totally flavorless -- nothing like two little cups of boiled, pureed tomatillo "salsa." Mmmm mmmm. (read with extreme sarcasm). I may go back for "drunk tacos", of which other reviewers have mentioned. I will never return sober, nor drunk, for a "meat and onion burrito." No, gracias.

Tonight, I had some dry and vaguely tough lomo tacos at La Pasadita. I don't think that I've ever had tough rib-eye steak. Does tough rib-eye steak even exist? Hrmmmm.... *Cocks eyebrow to indicate suspicion*

This is for the biggest of the three, correct? About two months ago, I would have given this place an easy three, maybe four stars. The food is, overall, pretty tasty with immense portions and fast, friendly service. The bathroom gets mildly disgusting, but the free chips and salsa kick the hell out of your hunger as soon as you sit down so the bathroom tends not to be such a sticking point. Then I sunk my teeth into the sinfully salty, fatty, cheesy, texture-heaven that is the BARBACOA SUPER BURRITO. Now, I've had it a few times and it's not always the perfect ratio. But when it is... OH BROTHER! SISTER! The top of the burrito heap for SURE. Beware, this is not a meal for the faint-of-gut. Be prepared for some serious wrasslin' to fit the whole thing in, for sure. Let us not speak of the possible aftermath that a burrito of this magnitude is capable of wreaking. I digress. La Pasadita will now receive FIVE stars as recognition of their BARBACOA SUPER BURRITO and its place at the pinnacle in the world of fast-food Mexican. Did you know: Rumor has it that if you can finish ANY -- vegan being the easiest -- variety of the Ultimate burrito while sitting in the dining area, your meal is free.

So, I want delicious tacos for dirt cheap prices that I remember eating over in Los Angeles. You know, the kind that is just bad for your arteries, leaves your fingers with grease, and makes you happy. La Pasadita is like that. Slabs of grilled meat is wrapped around a warm tortilla. Just pour some of that bottled green sauce (it's crack!) and you're good to go. Horchata completes the meal. And it's so awesomely cheap.

I tried the Carne Asada burrito after a concert this weekend and it really hit the spot. I heard this place has really flame tacos too, as well as everything else on the menu. The only thing I was surprised about was the fact that the burrito was almost $8. I was expecting a little cheaper for an authentic mexican restaurant but it must be because of all the hipsters in the area ;)

This place has real mexican food. The tacos are not "white boy" tacos as some places have. They make the tacos with meat, onions, and cilantro. I've never gotten past the tacos cause I always crave them. So I have yet to try anything else. However, I've been told that this is the only one of the three that has the black salsa, which I LOVE. So, if you like that salsa don't try the other ones, cause you can't get it there. Also, if you eat in there is a waitress that will take your order. She'll also bring chips and salsa (and by request pico de gallo). There is a small private lot that is north of the first Pasadita that customers can park in. But, generally there's parking on the street. If you're craving mexican food skip Taco Bell and head to La Pasadita. You can't go wrong with anything you order here, I've never heard anyone I'm with complain about their food.

The only way you get better than this is to go down to Pilsen, or a state near the border, but after that is La Pasadita. My roommates and I went after hearing so much about the trio of taco tastiness on Ashland, and we were not disappointed. It was excellent for what it was. I had the mixed fajitas, my roommate had the carne asada super burrito, and my other roommate had the Guisado de Pollo. None of us left (1) hungry (2) disappointed or (3) broke. The problem with the fajitas and the burrito was that some of the meat was overly chewy, which is why this place does not get the fifth star. Otherwise, for what this place was, it was fantastic. Warnings for those out there that may be reading this... (1) This is true to its hole-in-the-wall roots. Don't expect great table service if you dine in. The wait staff isn't rude by any means, but I rate with the character of the establishment in mind. (2) The Guisados are REALLY spicy, so the weak of tongue be warned. Also, the table salsas are spicy. The dark green salsa won't hit you for for about 10 seconds, but then once it does it coats and stays with you. If you love spicy, you will love the dark salsa. (3) If you like your tacos with the lettuce and cheese and such, order the super taco. This place does tacos the more authentic way if you order the cheap ones, so keep that in mind. (4) The Super Burrito is HUGE. Every man wants to eat it, and every man wants to be it. Plus it tastes great. (5) EDIT 12/11/07 - the super quesadilla I had wasn't all that great -- probably because they loaded it with lettuce, beans and rice. Wouldn't recommend this. The other stuff, indeed!

I won't eat here again. It had been a long time favorite but their tacos at now teeny, tiny! I have never seen such a small corn tortilla. The steak tacos were grisly and the corn tortilla's were stale and dry. They charge .50 cents per taco I'd you want to add cheese. So that ads up quick and you get a pinch of chihuahua cheese. The black salsa is really good and the only reason I give it one star. Their tacos end up being the most expensive smallest tacos ever. $16 for 5 steak, a side order of beans and rice. I won't be back. Best taco place is up north called the chicken and taco place on elation and foster. Not far off the expressway and worth the drive.

I'll admit that the first time I was taken here, I might have had a little to drink beforehand. I had what I thought was the best burrito EVER. I returned a few weeks later for lunch dead sober and confirmed my rose-colored perceptions from before. Ignore the grime and just EAT! You'll be back for more carne asada!

By far the best steak tacos I have ever had.

I guess I've never had real mexican food. Kind of a shock the first time I went here but I do go back because it's pretty good but not great. I only get the carne asada really because there's only like 3 things to choose from. Burrito is huge and hard to finish. Only comes with cilantro and onions so pretty bland for me. Get tomatoes and sour cream for extra it's worth it and pile on the fresh hot sauce. Food is definitely fresh and there's always people in there. Just not sure what all the hype is about, guess everyones pretty drunk 24/7 here in Chicago hahaha

  • Mandy B.

I LOVE this place. It's my absolute fave. I go here at 4pm, 2am, it doesn't matter. It's just good. Steak tacos are the best. Try the chacho... you will not regret it.

After you eat here you will wonder why is there three separate locations all within spitting distance of each other. Not great but probably good after a keg of beer has been ingested

Best burrito in the city. Steak, onions, cilantro and cheese. No filler, no need for anything else. They also do a great Chile Rellano.

SUPER TACOS yum yum yum. I didn't know how big they were going to be so I ordered 2. Yea. finished one and had to take the other to go. Happy I did too. Perfect for lunch the next day. Not expensive and pretty easy parking on the street. I will have to stop in more often.

This place is fantastic. Everyone has written their reviews, but keep in mind that it's a cash only location. They run out of carne asada (beef) well before 3am usually, and they are pretty skimpy on the guac.

    (5)
  • Joseph W.

There are three of these on the same block, but that's just one of the idiosynchrasies of this place. I've been to all of them, but I'll just stick to the food which I think is similar in all of them. I love their steak. It is seasoned perfectly and whether you have it in a burrito or a taco... you will love it! It's cut into little triangles right in front of you so it's fresh off the grill. Perfect!

  • Amy A.

This is the taco shack next to the restaraunt. There are 4 non-beverage items on the menu. Taco options - steak, barbacoa(?) some kind of shredded beef, chile relleno, cheese. I've had the steak and chile relleno. The chile relleno (one of my favorite mexican specialties) was eh. But there was something about the steak that keeps me comin back. It was greasy- slightly, cilantro and onion-check, salsa- acceptable not mind blowing. All combined in a $2 package makes me happy. I used to think that a $2 taco was too expensive but that was before I started buying $3 cupcakes... For now- every time I go to the post office I find myself craving a taco.

Please, someone post pictures of the signs for each of the three restaurants. This yelp is for the one with the black sign -- the biggest of the three and the one with the biggest menu, and yes, the salsa negra! Black sign, black salsa, that's all you need to remember. God I miss Chicago, and being within walking distance of La Pasadita. In November when the wind comes off the lake, the smell of all that good meat cooking would waft over my house and pull me down the street to get some, just like one of those Tom & Jerry cartoons. I'm a taco guy myself and go for the babaracoa with lots of salsa negra. There may be better babaracoa somewhere in Pilsen or Little Village, but I'll take mine right in the hood with all the indie kids at 3am, or with the firefighters and cops at noon on a Tuesday.

I am not sure why I went back to this place, but I decided to give it another try, and it's still not very good. Maybe at night it is better, but the steak is always chewy and full of fat. The burritos are pushing $10 now, I would rather haveone half the size that was actually decent. This place is on my never again list.

    (1)
  • Kelly K.

This is my favorite mexican restaurant north of Pilsen. The wait for take out is fairly quick, even on a busy night, but be prepared to wait for a table during busy times!

  • Sooyon H.

This place always hits the spot when I am craving some well-made, yet greasy tacos from a taqueria. I always order their carne asada tacos and barbacoa tacos. I ordered their carne asada burrito, which was huge. . . but for that size I would prefer to have more veggies fix-ins.

    (4)
  • Jay R.

great mexican food, but sometimes the place is not that clean

    (4)
  • Igor F.

Simply the best steak tacos across universe of different mexican joints I've tried. They raised the prices to $2 which I think is expensive for a taqueria, but they are so good! I don't mind driving there from my house, takes only 10 minutes and it totally worth it.

  • Jessy Z.

The tacos here are absolutely amazing! There are three locations all right next to or across the street from each other so, depending on the time depends on which one is open. The food is cheap and so tasty. We had the carne asada, chicken, barbacoa, and chorizo tacos and all of them were fantastic. Wouldn't necessarily recommend the chorizo as enthusiastically because it was ground (we were expected chopped) with wayyyyy too much paprika but that could have been an accident - we will maybe try those again one more time. The other tacos and burritos were delicious and are served with onions and cilantro on top - nothing fancy, just authentic and flavorful. I will highly highly recommend!

  • Steven G.

This is one of the best Mexican restaurants in Chicago. End of story! Their Carne Asada is simply delicious, and so is their chicken. Great salsa, but beware: it's pretty spicy!! Remember to ask for some pico de gallo if they don't bring it right away...it's incredible! The food is prepared quickly, and it is very affordable. Been going to this place for years, and it never ceases to amaze me. It's also open very late! I can't recommend La Pasadita highly enough.

    (5)
  • Ben S.

The best steak in the city. Marinated and seasoned grilled or steamed...either way it's awesome and open late. There are three on this corner but this one seems to be the best AND it's the original. It's tiny but well worth it. I usually get the barbacoa but recently had the steak and cheese with cilantro and onions burrito. Amazing drunk or sober.

In my 49 years of life and my travels across this great planet, I'm so thrilled to know that the very BEST Burritos in the World are at La Pasadita, here in my hometown of Chicago. Their secret marinade sauce for their steaks are incredible and one of the toughest rides in the city is when you drive by their place on Ashland. They surround you with two on one side and another on the opposite side. A clever tactic that smothers you with the smell of char grilled meat as you pass by causing you to swerve your car and find a parking spot, so you can chow down at their place. The Chile Rellenos (stuff peppers) are mouth watering and man.. writing about this is getting me hungry. I think I'll stop by the new La Pasadita, that was setup a few blocks from my house! Curse Them!!!

OMG...my favoritest mexican joint EVER. The prices are cheap and the best barbacoa in the city. The service is fast. Major plus is that it opens until the early hours of the morning. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Great, solid, value-for-your-money tacos here in Chicago! This is my go-to place for tacos, late-night and otherwise. They have solid, consistent tacos for a good value, and good steak. Having come from California, the land of Mexican food in the U.S., I am a harsher critique, and this is one of my favorite places in Chicago for cheap Mexican.

i believe this is the sit-down store on the west side of ashland. i had to go to this store last night instead of the one at 1140 n ashland because one of the people i was dining with wanted something other than a meat taco (1140 only serves meat tacos). the wait service here is not that great. while the steak tasted about the same high-quality as next door, by the time it got to my table the meat was barely warm! important: horchata here is superior to 1140.

  • Mike H.

I'm of the mind that char-grilled meats and really awesome salsa make or break a mexican restaurant. These guys do it right. Best carne asada tacos in town that aren't Lencho's tacos at the Maxwell Street Market. The rich brown roasted jalepeno salsa and and green jalepeno/tomatillo salsas are fabulous. The mixed-grill plate will feed 3 happy people. Great service from really nice waitresses. Easy parking at all hours on the street or in their Pasadita communal lot next to the former Pizza Hut at Ashland and Division. The men's restroom is a little gross but it's worth it for the silly gang graffiti on the walls - just don't touch anything.

sadly, this place doesn't taste nearly as good when your sober. However, at 3am on a Saturday it can't be beat. Also, don't expect to get your food quickly...

I don't know, I'm from New York, but to me this place was AWESOME. Super authentic. I loved the black and green salsas on the table that come out of the squeezie tubes. The steak tacos are great, as are the vegetarian. I wish I lived here so I could order this all the time. Also a great late night spot. But I was NOT under the influence when I tried them, my taste buds were at full attention, thank you very much. 5 stars, hands down.

  • imran k.

if i could, i would give this place ten stars. i've noticed that come any night past 12:30, i find myself immediately urging my friends to get burritos, and not ANY OTHER burrito, but... LET'S GO TO LA PASADITA. i probably get annoying, and in fact i know i do. but it's my persistence that ultimately drives my friends to the area and they get to experience the wonderful onion, cilantro, peppers oh my god this review is making me hungry. a lot of my friends absolutely fall in love with their burritos here, as do i. only one of my friends didn't care for this place much, but she's more of a pizza and rice on calamari kind of girl, anyways. i'm digressing. go to la pasadita. there's three of them on one block: the burrito triangle. always shoot for the small yellow one on the west side of ashland first. all the burritos SHOULD taste the same because they're all the same restaurant- but ive noticed (because i've eaten here well over 100 times) that the proportions are perfect in the yellow one. i usually take my burrito, then, across the street and eat there, because- wait for it- it has seating. i'm so excited for you! go! you're going to be so satisfied.

  • Jose G.

Allow me to just join the chorus. The veggie tacos are not like tacos else where, this place is fast, great, and a landmark worth bringing out-of-towners to. I like to play a game with visiting friends- get a taco from each of the Pasaditas. Okay, so it's not a very fun game. Who asked you?

    (5)

the chilles rellanos taco i had at la pasadita changed my life. i can't find any other mexican restaurant that does that. a cheese stuffed pepper... inside a taco?! amazing!

The food at La Pasadita was excellent! I had the quesadillas with their "mild" sauce. It's a good thing I like spicy foods, because this sauce was NOT mild. My sinuses were going crazy, my eyes were watering and I had to keep blowing my nose. It was tasty though. It was my first visit at La Pasadita, and I was pretty disapointed with the service. First of all, our waitress never came back to see if we wanted more drinks or to ask if everything was ok. And second, we never got our bill. Everyone else was getting a bill, but we had to go up and pay without one. It was weird, because at the register they knew our total.

I'm not really surprised that this place gets such good reviews. It's just not for me. I ordered a taco and there was a ton of gristle (pieces of fat) in it. And the whole time I'm eating it I'm spitting out pieces of fat and thinking this is disgusting.

OUTSTANDING TACOS and I for one appreciate the no frills enviroment and just down to business service. Grease needs to be changed as the chips leave a horrible after taste. If you want a great street style taco in a real chicago neighborhood-this is the place.

Went tonight for some steak tacos. Normally I would order a burrito, but I remembered on check please they were all about the tacos. I would say it was definitely better than average (Flash Taco). Was it the best late night Mexican ever? No. The best late night Mexican ever WAS at Taco and Burrito Palace #2 on Halsted. I haven't been in years, but the memories don't fade.

Wow with practically 3 pasaditas in a row which is the one to choose from? We parked closest to this one so it won. At first I was a bit nervous, you are greeted with somewhat of a sewer scent when you walk in. It doesn't take long to get past that. The chips weren't anything to write home about but the free salsas definitely were. We really enjoyed the smokey habenero flavored one. As for our entrees, him steak tacos and milanesa torta for myself. Lately I've been on the torta kick and this one did the job. It was stuffed to the gills with cheese and avocado spread. My horchata was excellent also, very milky, some horchatas have a very powdery taste, not here. All in all our dinner came to $10, which was the minimum for their credit card purchase, excellent. La Pasadita's circuses might not woo James Ward but I think the food simply speaks for itself.

Wow!! I-love-this-place!!!! I like Chipotle as much as the next guy (maybe more), but this place puts Chipotle to shame! There are three of these right in the same area, but all slightly different. Go to the one with the black sign. Get the steak "super" burrito. The steak is good quality and charred perfectly. The burritos are also large enough to split because the chips and three kinds of salsa that come out first are awesome...it's hard to resist filling up on those. Watch out for the green salsa...it's great but it's HOT! This is so good and so cheap you won't even believe it. Someone got shot there a while back (robbery), but it's totally worth the risk.

Booo. I have been in the food service industry for years now and anyone who is in it KNOWS that good customer service starts before the customer walks in and long after they leave. The minute I walked in, I was greeted by a frown and asked "what do you want". When I told her what I wanted she said "we don't have that here, go to the one next door". WOW, I almost just drove away from that, but I figured since I was already there, I might as well give it a try. So i go next door and I see 3 women by the counter chit chatting...I stand there, waiting...waiting...waiting some more and NOTHING, I know they saw me unless they were all legally blind. FINALLY, one of the girls nodded at me for my order. UGH! How ruuude! I gave my order, got my food and got the hell out! That experience was so bad, I couldn't even enjoy my food and have no interest in giving them a second chance.

It's no frills and all flavor, just what u want when doing a real taqueria. believe the tribune when they rate their carne asada tacos as "best in the city". i've been going here for nearly 10 yrs and it's quality every single time. la pasadita is authenticity in its purest form.

I am absolutely in love with this Mexican joint. A friend brought me to La Pasadita about 4 or 5 months ago and I have been going at least once a week ever since. I'm addicted to the flavor they are serving up. I grew up on fake, American/Mexican food. I had never had so many authentic Mexican restaurants to choose from until moving to Chicago and this place is the best by far. The food is delicious, it is fairly clean, and the waitresses are all very nice and polite when I completely butcher the names of the menu items (still working on the Espanol). I usually order the Tampiquena with a side of two tacos- add cheese and sour cream, and two diet cokes to wash it all down. This is a lot of food and I can handle it all. The food is tasty, authentic, and filling. I have never been myself but I hear this place stays open pretty late for the drunk crowd and the food is just perfect for a hung over afternoon lunch. Love this joint, just not real clear on why there are three of the same restaurant on a single block of Ashland. Could they be that popular?

    (5)
  • Mel F.

I can't say that I've ever been to this place sober but in my drunken opinion, it's A-OK! I mean when you want to soak up all the $8 drinks you've just had in Wicker Park, this is definitely a place to do it. From what I remember, they are pretty veggie-friendly. Unless I was that drunk and ate something that I thought was a vegetable. Oh no, damn...now I'm worried..

  • Lucy R.

When you come here, expect to find parking at a meter fairly easily, and be greeted by the delicious smell of grilling beef or carne asada before you even enter the restaurant. Also, be careful not to go into the other "La Pasadita" restaurant (you heard me right--there are two restaurants with the same name right next to each other). You can tell between the two as there is a front greenhouse-like dining room on the front side of the correct La Pasadita. I go here for the tasty food, not so much the ambience, service or music (unless you like musica banda which is kinda like Mexican folk/polka music). One time we went there, they were filming some show in the front dining room...perhaps for "Check Please!" or "190 North"? La Pasadita is a famous neighborhood restaurant that is always crazy busy, full of diners who have probably been eating here for years and people coming in and out picking up carryout orders. Food is authentic and good, but not always consistent. The first time I ordered the beef "stew" dish, I absolutely loved it--the second time, it was a bit mushy and not as flavorful. Tacos platters are also a good choice as you get Spanish rice and refried beans which I think are made really well although I'm not a beans connoiseur to say the least. Lastly, some tips: try the horchata or jamaica drink; you might have to whip out your Spanish-speaking skills at some point during the evening; weekend afternoons are hard to get a table, eat a snack first if you are already starving before leaving for the resto. In summary, go here for a fast, good, cheap meal with the fam.

  • Jonathan A.

An old standby for when you need late night tacos or anytime really. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about how great the food is. I think there's plenty of places that have equally great cheap Mexican. Especially on the West side. But if I'm pressed to name a good taco, this definitely makes the list. I have to say, I always liked the tacos at Big Horse before it closed down. It's really hard to give an objective review on places like this when you almost always eat there inebriated.

I don't know if this is the right one since there are three next to each other, but whichever one serves the black salsa is my favorite! The black salsa is to die for.. we literally just go in and buy a large cup of it.. it is amazing!

A great taqueria. Service is fast. Food is cheap and good. Get the carne asada steak tacos. Tacos are big and can fill you up faster than you would think. Not too big of a fan of the rice.

    (4)
  • Melissa H.

I've heard so much about how authentic their tacos are and although they are good and really tiny, I sometimes find that the meat is rather tough/rubbery which is a turn off. The salsa is really good too. It seems a little pricey though, two really small tacos for almost $5?

    (3)
  • Ruth G.

Great carne asada tacos... there are a lot of crappy taco places out there, but this is the real deal.

Hands down Chicagos best tacos !!(they were actually voted Chicagos best tacos last year )Juicy tender steak tacos that make my mouth salvate thinking of them .Warm soft tortillas ,gooey chihuahua cheese ,what a real taco should be .This review is for the shack location nest to the car dealer .The restuarant location across the street offers a "parillada "which is a huge sizzling skillet with many cuts of meat ...Skirt steak ,chicken ,ribs ,sausage ..comes with beans and rice and tortillas for about $20 (feeds 3-5 people easily ) they also have really good guacamole .

i went to la pasadita for late night tacos. maybe my senses were dulled, but this seemed to be a legitimate taqueria, which made me really happy. ingredients were really fresh and simple, definitely not gringo tacos. just steak, onions, cilantro and salsa verde. the atmosphere isn't great, but i tend to think that's the mark of a good taqueria.

  • Zack M.

These steak tacos are delicious, especially at the northern-most spot on the west side of Ashland (There are three on one block). 3 carne asada tacos with onion, cilantro and [cheese is extra]. I did not like the burrito as much as grease built up alot at the bottom and left my stomach churning. The tacos are great and worth the trip, especially late night, though I rank it slightly below Tio Luis on Archer.

Yes it's good "drunk" food... but what isn't? La Pa's is also really good, way above average Chicago taco stand food. All 3 Ashland locations plus the around town Express locations are all good. The carne asada tacos are the draw. Don't go burrito unless you're drunk because the well-seasoned, slightly charred carne asada flavors need to meld with the corn tortilla (unlike a burrito's flour tortilla) and cilantro and onion to provide the perfect bite.

I have been a fan of this place for years. I swear for a few years i thought they sprinkled crack cocaine on the carne asada cause i would crave it if I was in a 6 mile radius. have ventured away from the steak a few times and I cannot rave about the others. Great steak tacos and burritos. If you get cheese in addition to your cilantro and onions on your tacos the price can get a little high for lunch but you will always leave satisfied.

Seriously overrated. And we went twice bc we second guessed ourselves given all the great reviews. The food is completely bland and ordinary. The beef is tough and chewy, they got my order wrong and they don't have jalepenos or a sauce that's even remotely hot or flavorful. Plus it's kinda dirty.

Their tacos/burritos are tasty, but only if you like a lot of onions and cilantro. The next morning I kinda regret it, but it's great late-night food.

i grew up right by greenview and division, so we used to go this spot with my parents. The tacos are still great but it has fallen off from what it used to be. great tacos and fast service.

The steak tacos in this place are so mind-blowing and delicious Arizona is trying to ban them from the country.

Freakin phenominal tacos, ie lengua, barbacoa and chicken. Great and always fresh pico degallo, green and red salsas. The salsa's are super tasty. Perfect taco place for me, fast, super freash, super tasty and cheap...

I love love love their tacos. The steak tacos and burritos are fantastic with the green sauce.

Some of the best tacos in town here. The carne asada and lomo are the best. Sometimes the carne asada are a bit over salted and/or chewy, but more often than not they are right on the mark. If you eat in you get complementary chips and salsa...so do that.

This is the best taco meat i have ever tasted in my life(outside of Mexico of course)! The little steak cubes are so deliciously seasoned with who knows what. For steak tacos, this is the spot to go.Drunk or sober, they taste just as good. I have not tried anything else on the menu but why bother when you can order the steak tacos and never be disappointed? The only negative here is the salsas which are bland and icky.

When I moved to the area, people kept telling me about La Pasadita. The first time I went to try it out, I walked into the first store at 1141 N Ashland and asked for a vegetarian burrito. They instructed me to go across the street. I went to the second location, and ordered the same thing. When I offered to pay with a credit card, they directed me to this third location within a block. This location is still my favorite It has a large dine in section, and obviously it takes credit. I eat here all the time, and everything is always great. The horchatas are huge. This is one of my favorite burrito places in town. They're open late which is awesome, but I will warn you, you'll get a bigger burrito (ie more for your money) if you come in during the day, especially Sunday around lunch. It seems like when they get busy, towards the end of the night, the portions go down. Perhaps it's because they are running out of prepared ingredients, or just so damn busy, but this is worth note.

I really want to like La Pasadita since it is near my apartment, but it is just greasy Mexican food. The meat is really fatty and they don't put toppings on the tacos.

If you like burritos that are literally just a brick of meat wrapped in a tortilla, this is the place for you (not me).

Had been going to picante on division & damen until my girlfriend and I discovered pasadita. It's a little closer to our place, same prices if not a bit cheaper, and burritos the size of your head. Perfect late night or for lunch.

The best Carne asada tacos I have ever had, Really delicious, and for Tom who gave t one star, This couldn't be the same place, They never would have had you wait to clear a table, because THERE ARE NO TABLES, I also love the Chile Rellenos and the Orchata, the pictures f the hottie latina news anchors, and trying to understand the little Spanish signs they have all over behind the grill.

I never tend to critique food I get when I'm drunk on a Friday night too much but La Pasadita was terrible. I got a burrito and the steak was so tough I got through about two bites before my jaw gave out. I chewed each bite about 100 times and could still barely swollow it. I threw it out. Why do you open up three of the same restaurant in one block? To trick people into buying the same crap food three times.

Let me preface this comment with a couple of facts, i love to eat, i have hit up taco joints from north to south, even one in San Antonio texas that was supposedly the best of the US, it was horrible!!!!, and I am a beaner. So let me say that the meat here is what makes the difference, Flavor!!!. I cannot vouch for anything else, try the steak tacos. On a side note though, la pasadita's franchising if you will is a little bizarre, 3 on 1 block!!! Note to owner, at least you should have opened one around the corner.

Steak tacos with cilantro and onion, salsa verde and a little lime. These guys do it the best. Atmosphere is non-existent but these are perfection. Meat is cooked and seasoned just right. Simple and delicious. Try the lengua tacos as well!

    * It's the usual only-in-Chicago inexplicable curse ... After blissfully browsing for a million years at Reckless, you emerge onto Milwaukee starving to death, but assuming that as in ANY OTHER CITY IN THE WHOLE WORLD, you'll be surrounded by high-calibre quick-service eatery options, only to straggle down to Division miles later having found NOT ONE NORMAL DECENT EATING OPTION along the entirety of the whole damned stretch of garbage storefronts, hipper-than-thou-bars, and assorted rubbish of various kinds (No, I'm not including any place that serves fake meat and is affiliated with the evil Yahweh cult) ... So FINALLY you wolf down your tacos at La Pasadita, and they're ... passable ... Ah, yes, Chicago ... It's a stumper.

The carne asada has the perfect balance between exterior crunch, inner juiciness, and flavor. The horchata is delicoius and the salsas each bring something different to the table.

La Pasadita has been around since '76, in which the original location was a few stores up on Ashland. They serve up some Mexican specialties, such as carne asada, barbacoa, lengua, chorizo, and chile rellenos. My friends and I came here for a late lunch; I had the steak Super Burrito that was filled with cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, onions, rice and beans. It tasted slightly similar to Chipotle, but with more fresh and more generous amounts of the ingredients. Don't forget to douse it with some salsa, as it adds a nice kick to it! I also ordered the horchata, and that was pretty good - it had a hint of cinnamon and a delicious thick rice consistency. I appreciated the cleanliness of the eatery, and the ease of parking up along Ashland. This seems to be a great local spot and a good spot to get some burritos if you're in the area. +Steak Super Burrito +Horchata +parking on Ashland

Just average tacos. It used to be good and carefully managed but I think that as they keep closing stores (there were actually like 6 feet apart only or across the street) they just keep getting worse. The restaurant was much nicer so they could have kept that one instead of the original taqueria. The cashiers are mean and the cooks could be more caring about what they are preparing. The only thing worth the hassle are the Tacos de Lengua (tong tacos) and as disgusting as it sounds, they are actually very good quality (for people who like "Lengua". The other thing is that they close very late so bunch of drunk people may think this is a paradise.

Juicy steak tacos with tons of flavor! Their menu is small but their flavor isn't. How corny was that? Whatever, you're not the king of me.

Ive been to both locations and you'll always receive quality authentic food. You can't go wrong with grilled steak! and if your adventurous try the lengua (beef tounge ) it is amazing.

I always drop in for beef tongue tacos which are so delicious. It's a simple soft taco topped with onions and cilantro. They provide a homemade green chile sauce which I combine with Tabasco mild green sauce.

Been coming here for decades hadn't been in a while noticed not three locations right next to each other anymore which I always thought was dumb, the tacos were smaller then I remembered but still good my favorite thing by far is the Black Salsa the best salsa I have ever had

My first-ever visit to Chicago, and my bf (who's a local) decided to take me to his favorite restaurant--La Pasadita! Having grown up in the Los Angeles area and then living in Switzerland the past 5 years, I was very eager to get some real Mexican grub into my belly. I think my bf wasn't too happy about my initial lackluster reaction... but I chalked it up to me: 1) having just stepped off the plane after traveling over 9 hours across the Atlantic Ocean, 2) still being quite full from all the food I ate on the plane (Swiss Air is quite generous with plenty of good eats), and 3) my stomach not recognizing it was dinnertime in Chicago, because it was the wee hours of the morning back in Switzerland... Despite all of these obstacles, I still managed to get analysis paralysis while perusing the menu and had to ask him for his recommendation on what to eat. "Steak torta," he said, "it's the best." Huh, what's that? I had never heard of a torta before. Oh... it's a sandwich. Hm... not something I would typically order, but I was game to give it a try. I also ordered horchata as my beverage of choice, as it's one of my most favorite things in the world to drink. :) Our drinks arrived... and it was delicious!! Creamy and sweet and full of flavor, this was the BEST horchata I've ever had. Yum yum yum. :D Then the food came out. My steak torta was an explosion of beef, cheese, refried beans, lettuce, tomato, and guacamole. It was quite salty for my taste, but I really liked the soft bread, which was a perfect compliment to the lean, beefy meat. The torta was quite flavorful, and I loved how there were refried beans and guacamole in it. Really missed eating those in Switzerland. All-in-all, a pretty tasty meal... and you can't beat the price. Only $1.50 for the horchata and $6.00 for the steak torta.

Used to be delicious. The steak in my burrito was like eating shoe leather. Literally could not chew it. Left my $10 burrito uneaten. Not sure what happened, but there's plenty of Mexican joints in Chicago. My son even said Chipotle is better. BLASPHEMY! But sadly he was right on this one.

I had my first burrito ever here, which is significant in and of itself. I was very appreciative that there were veggie-friendly options here, which is not always the case at Mexican restaurants, unless you want a block of cheese and beans. This had guac, lettuce, refried beans, rice, onions, and a bunch of other yummy fillings. That being said, although the size was significant, it was not particularly flavorful. I added some salt, which improved the taste. I also added some salt to the guacamole. What I really liked about the guacamole was that they didn't skimp at all on those fresh avocados. Yum! It was a good experience for my first burrito, but I definitely left feeling like I had a rock sitting in my stomach (a feeling I still had the next day). Maybe Mexican food like this is just too heavy for me and this isn't anything specifically against La Pasadita. We came here fairly late (~9:30 PM), so this is a good option for late night greasy cheap eats. Price was a definite plus!

Drunk food? They're grrrreat! Alcohol + tacos = happy Angie. I can understand how this place is always poppin. Super fast food with sweet servers, open late and lots of seating. I just wish they had at least one other veg or seafood option. One too many of those deep fried, chile relleno tacos and I won't be able to fit through the door. I see you, Pasadita. I may just have you on a sober stomach.

I used to love coming to La Pasadita and recommended the place to several people as the best burrito in Chicago. NO MORE - The owners are greedy! Two years ago the burrito was $5-6. I stopped in the other day and they have raised the price to $9.50!!! This is a dive burrito shop on the west side of town with poor service. The only thing going for them is the burrito is very good and formerly a good deal. Now at $9.50 (and that is before cheese or sour cream), I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Good bye LP, thanks for ruining a good thing!

  • Kari F.

Stars are for the food. I come here a lot just because the tacos are awesome, but the service is rly bad and the prices are a bit too high. People that work here are not very friendly usually. I feel like every time I'm ordering I have to wait for everyone working to stop talking and giggling with each other. Been cut off mid order because of that once. I usually wait way too long (currently been waiting 20 mins, no joke), which should be a fairly quick ordeal for a couple carne asada tacos to go. Plus the place looks like a dump. Get your sh*t together people and I'll update.

  • Davin L.

Seriously? All these 4 and 5 star reviews? For this place? Oh, I see. Most of you are mentioning that you had their food after a late night bender. Considering how much it takes to gets me drunk? This is not a winning proposition. I finally came here last Saturday after having it bookmarked for quite some time. I was hoping for a solid carne asada and chorizo tacos with a nice chicken torta. What I got was a 30-minute wait for rubbery tasteless steak, super salty chorizo, and a dry chicken torta with no guacamole, even after I requested it. Did I go to the wrong one? I do know they have several restaurants along the street. As it stands, it was such a lousy experience, I don't know if I want to go back and find out...

Meh, just go to Authentaco or Carbon instead, nothing to see here.

  • Rachel T.

I don't know what happened to this place but it has gone down hill. There is only one location on Ashland now. It smells horrible, it's dirty, no water, soda is served warm, service is unfriendly, and the tacos are so small for the almost $3 price. I gave it two stars because the meat was warm and had some flavor. Spend your money elsewhere there are tons of other great Mexican restaurants in Chicago with quality food and atmosphere. Don't come here!

    (2)
  • Alison S.

Don't get anything other than the tacos, they are quite literally my favorite tacos ever. I usually get a mix of steak and lengua with the green salsa, onions and cilantro. There aren't toppings like cheese or tomatoes to put on these tacos, and I love that. Nothing other than the meat needed! Affordable, delicious and really fast. The horchata is good too. Just don't both with the burrito unless you're gonna get the ultra supreme one that comes with everything on it, if you want a Mexican-American Chipotle style stuffed burrito this is probably not the place to go.

  • Leslie B.

I've been getting burritos from La Pasadita since the 1980s. Everyone I introduced to La Pasadita LOVED their burritos (steak with cilantro, onions and cheese). After I moved out of the city, to the suburbs, I used to order large quantities and freeze them in order to get my burrito fix. All other burritos were measured against the La Pasadita steak burrito. Now they have consolidated from 3 restaurants to 1 (which, in itself, is a bit sad) and the last time I went there the burritos were not up to par. They were smaller, not as flavorful and the hot sauce was not nearly as hot. I will be looking for a new place for "killer burritos" if their not able to improve.

    (3)
  • Lauren R.

Since this place got bought out, this particular location isn't all that anymore. Don't get me wrong the carne asada is the best that I have ever had but their only options are tacos and burritos. Even The La Pasidita Express on Irving Park offers more variety. The price is a little higher too, I'd be okay with that if the taco toppings were a little more than just onions and cilantro. I also didn't like the fact that there was no table service. Lastly, I've never been to a Mexican joint where they use regular sour cream as oppose to the traditional crema.

  • Danny W.

Best tacos in town? That's a pretty bold statement, but that's what their website claims. As a connoisseur of carne asada I can't really argue with them. I don't know about the best in all of Chicago, but if you've got a couple of restaurant locations all on Ashland Ave than you must be doing something right. The menu is simple with tacos, tortas, and burritos, but they've mastered these specialties and have some solid hot sauce. Combine these with late night hours and some entertaining drunkards and you got yourself a recipe for an after tavern taqueria. Definitely a little expensive for drunk food, but certainly worth a go if carne asada is your kryptonite.

I remember coming to this place back in high school and back then it had one of the biggest & yummiest burritos I ever ate in my life. The thing took 2 days for me to eat and I brought it everywhere (trains, buses, school, etc.) It was a pleasant surprise because the place was a dimly lit (pretty much pitch black) dive with an ancient ATM machine and a few tables in the back. I could never find this place again though! It was straight out of a movie as I kept looking around the area over the years and searching the net, but it was simply gone... Here we are about 7 years later and I stumble across an article about burritos in Chicago. I looked at the description of some places and thought this might be the one. To my delight it was! The place has cleaned up (it actually has lights now!), they turned it into a full sit-down restaurant by adding a lot more tables and expanding the place. Although I laughed because that same ancient ATM that I bet hardly anyone uses is still there collecting dust along the back wall. They don't have the ground beef burrito anymore, just carne asada. The cashier was eager to take my order (asking me in both Spanish and English.) I got myself 2 super burritos one lengua (beef tongue), and one lomo (ribeye steak). She took my order down and rang my up for one burrito...which I corrected her for (would I have gotten a 2 for 1 deal if I hadn't? Dangit!). They took my credit card quick and easy. The place was pretty busy, but still had that "divey" atmosphere, but in a good way. I got my burritos in about 10 minutes and was out the door. They're still huge and the restaurant threw in a ton of green pepper salsa. I dove right into these things once I got home. They were both cooked and prepared well, all the ingredients packed tightly together, nothing was sloppy. The lengua blended perfectly with the cheese, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, etc. Definitely will have this again on my next trip. The lomo while still good, I think they didn't make it a super burrito as it was filled with rice or its an entirely different recipe. Whatever the case this place is going to be in my stable of restaurants. Right now it's the best burrito in my area and completely lived up to the taste I had on my mind all these years.

Always on the look out for our new go-to taqueria , we heard La Pasadita was the place to go--so we stopped by to test out the burritos. This place smelled super funky, like stinky tennis shoes and cigarette ashes -- not what you want to smell at the place you're going to be eating. So we got our food to go. We each got a $10 super burrito -- which is a crazy amount to spend on a burrito, but it held the promise of beans, rice, sour cream, and avocado! The burrito was huge! This made me happy -- I like getting bang for my buck. However, it was very bland. The carne asada was super dry and tough, same for the chicken. The lettuce tasted a little funky. Overall, just very disappointing.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
