Good food, but twice I've ordered from them and the price they advertise in their menu is way different than what you pay at delivery. It almost seems that they are trying to make a bigger profit out of false advertising and the owner delivering than having help around

The whole Red Snapper or Perch cooked with Garlic and white wine is to die for. The crispy tacos are really good too. Shrimp and fillets of fish are good also, for people who can't handle the whole fish. Best place for a very reasonable seafood meal in Rogers Park.

Very nice all around. Good food reasonable $. Look forward to trying the garden seating this spring.

My wife and I order here at least once a week. I dig their restaurant, and they have never messed up our pick-up order (probably just jinxed it). I also am a big fan of their red and green salsas. The red is a bit spicy, but the green is just right. I have noticed that the veggies they use (tomato, lettuce, cilantro, onion) are always fresh and crisp, which definitely sets them apart from just any taqueria in the neighborhood. Tostadas: excellent and huge! Tacos: outstanding (get crispy!) Chile Rellenos: meh, skip it Burritos: very tasty and very filling Chorizo: a little over-seasoned Carne asada: tender and juicy, if a little on the fatty side Beans and rice: decent My only gripe: no carnitas :-(

I used to love coming to this place to enjoy their garden seating in the back. I remember the food being a lot better back then. I had the shrimp fajitas today. There was no flavor on the shrimp. Bland and disappointing. I had to pay extra for avocado and sour cream, which usually comes with fajitas at other places. The highlights were the beans and rice that were pretty good. The tortillas were fresh and hot, though a little small. This dish was so bland though even with salsa, avocado, sour cream, peppers, and onions. Even the peppers had no flavor. No seasoning at all. 18 dollars later and I felt like I over payed for something I could have gotten at taco bell but would have had more flavor. There are so many more options for Mexican food in Rogers Park, I would not chose this one again. Mexican food with no flavor? That's what I call inauthentic.

I've been here several times to sit in the nice outdoor garden. Normally it's in the Spring or after a spell of really bad weather, like this past winter. Someone really does put quite a bit of work into that garden and it's the closest place to my home that has Mexican food with outdoor seating. To get outside you walk through to the back of the place past the cash register and turn right and out the door. There are a few tables set up on a concrete pad, then a few more scattered through the garden area. It's a city lot so the view is of other houses and garages but it doesn't take away from being there. Many times ours has been the only group out there, or maybe one of two or three. At times that has affected the service since it's a pain for the waitstaff to come out there but it's never been bad enough to avoid sitting outside. They are certainly friendly enough and bring huge cups of ice water probably to avoid having to refill often, good idea. The food is decent. They serve two salsas on the table with tortilla chips. Not the best I've had but not bad at all. I usually get shrimp quesadillas here and they're quite good. They are served with rice and beans. The servings are quite large, you could easily make two meals of them. Most everything is under $10. If you want to sit outside and have decent Mexican food in a nice garden check it out!

Meh. This place is incredibly close to my apartment, but id rather go out of my way to avoid it most days. Their tacos are pretty expensive ($3 and honestly pretty tiny). I can go to any of the other billion taquerias on Clark for the same quality but usually cheaper and larger. I will give them credit for their carne asada though--delicious! Horchata was not impressive at all. Added alcohol to it when I got home to make it more bearable (it worked!) Waited a pretty long time at the place for our tacos, probably upwards of 30 minutes. I'd definitely suggest calling ahead if you're going for take out. Not that big of a deal though, everything tasted really fresh when we got home so they probably just had a lot of deliveries or something. That being said, I'll probably skip this place next time I have a craving for tacos.

We went today 6/20/14 Let me tell you that the service is horrible!! We went in, got the menus and then sat there for 20 minutes! While the ladies chit chatted in the back... Then finally the owner saw that we were getting frustrated so he told his waitress to come attend us.. We ordered our food, I got the veggie burrito which was pretty good with their green sauce. Now my partner got the the shrimp volcan with hot sauce... Yeah it was horrible it had no seasoning it tasted as if the cool just dumped some hot sauce on top of it and this is a $14 plate.. Yeah so not worth it.. Anyway.. We waited for our check for about 30 minutes.. Given the fact that the owner and his son were sitting next to us.. The waitress never stopped by and asked us how we were doing or if we needed anything else... So I waited and finally I got fed up and I went to the register and I complained how we've been waiting half hour and how no one has came to our table.. I also complained about the food... The owner said not to charge us for it which was good! But we think they might have a new cook.. Because the dodo is not good And the service sucks!! Will never go there again!!

They are actually open @ 10 am, which is good BC I needed saving from my hunger induced rage that the auto parts store next does did not sell auto parts. The chicken taco lunch special fixed me up- Fresh food. Well prepared. Fast. Cost effective. Ladies Bathroom report 7 out of 10: no frills but Very clean. Large & Nicely tiled.

My man & I ordered in using GrubHub for a midday taco fix. We got 3 chix, 3 pastor, 3 chorizo. Plus a side order for $1.50 of salsa. The tacos were alright, overbearingly covered in their onion/cilantro mix. The tortillas hot, fresh. Though I felt the steak and the chicken tacos needed some seasoning to highlight the meat. The chorizo got away with it because the seasoning is built in. The side of salsa, please skip it. It is a ridiculously hot, soupy sauce. Unless that is your thing. NO chips included by the way....so have your own at home.

UPDATE: I called to order the chicken soup, since it's not bad. NOT great, but decent. Last time they forgot my tortillas. Now it is supposed to come with 5 of them. You can make tacos out of the chicken, etc. THe lady forgets them, i call, she agrees to give me a free steak taco on my next order. TODAY Was that order. DID I GET IT? OF COURSE NOT, I got the bitter owner who just likes to argue and even admits to NOT HAVING TO KEEP "HER WORD", since he didn't agree to it. THEN HE says, ok, you can have a free CHICKEN taco. I DON"T WANT a CHICKEN TACO. HONOR YOUR WORD. NO MATTER HOW GOOD UR FOOD USED TO BE, THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE NO IDEA OF 'KEEPING YOUR WORD' I WILL NOT RETURN. I HATE WHEN BUSINESSES HAVE B.S OWNERS. HE RUINED IT FOR ME. what a jerk OLDER: I should have learned my lesson the first time. Their chicken soup could be sooo good one day and then another like they warmed up leftovers from 2 days ago. Like actually the chicken tasted older. I wish i could say...Make it like u did the first time, geez! Today i called in to order a late lunch. It was 2:56, AND i knew Lunch ended at 3pm. I order my lunch special and the lady replies in broken English that lunch is over at 3pm. I tell her it is 2:56, and she tells me that it is 3:05. So not only do they have "not so great food", but They cannot even honor their own policies and were so petty on that lunch ended that I had to share this. THE FOOD HERE IS GETTING LESS AND LESS TASTY. THEY ARE SLACKING, or buying cheaper ingredients, OR hired a different cook. I have no idea, but Now I am avoiding them for awhile. So disappointing.

Mexican Food and Old Style....Hell yes!!!!! I was a bit leery when I saw the menu was loaded with fish entrees. As most of you know, I hate fish. My mind was put at ease when I saw that La Cazuela offers meat options as well. Everything my Wife and I ordered was delicious. Here's the breakdown. *Supreme Nacho's: Loaded to the nines with Guacamole, marinated beef, cheese and veggies. It was a meal in itself. *Carne Asada Burrito: Beautifully marinated steak and fresh ingredients. This football sized Burrito was fabulous. *Chorizo Taco: I'm quite aware how bad Chorizo is for a lipitor popping, old fart like me. But I can't help myself. I love it. This taco was bursting with flavor. Here's the delicious bottom line on La Cazuela. Everything I tasted was fresh, delicious and beautifully prepared. We both I ate like kings for $20.00. As my lovely Wife always says, "It beats a sharp stick in the eye"

Okay. Remember how I said the service was awkward? Here's what I mean. Was here last Saturday, which used to be a good day to go. Waitress was friendly, don't get me wrong, but so much was off: 1. It was freezing in there (always is) so I ordered hot tea. The water she used was lukewarm and was from the coffee pot that had probably been turned off for at least 20 minutes. 2. We both ordered waters in addition to our tea / Coke. Only my husband got his. 3. We ordered a tamale, and she asked us if we wanted green or red sauce. We decided on green. Tamale came....no sauce. And she never brought it. 4. There were no utensils. And when we asked for them, you almost got the sense that we were asking for something extra. And this kind of thing is pretty common there. We used to really like going on Saturdays, because the Saturday server had the best track record. She must have been off that day, or maybe she no longer works there. See what I mean? The service is very spacey. Maybe they're not used to people dining in? I don't know. Still love their tacos, though, and will likely go again when we're in the neighborhood in a few weeks.

My wife, who is Mexican, and I have picked this place as our go-to taco place. She is usually a lot pickier than I with this cuisine of food and rightfully so. There isn't anything special about the place but the steak tacos mexican style are glorious! The reason I give 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is as follows: The workers do not offer any type of friendly behavior, you MUST phone ahead and add 5 or 10 minutes to the estimated time. When you call and order a pickup, do not expect a thank you or any type of salutation. A hang up sound will be all you hear. They also require a $10 purchase to use credit card, which I find very annoying and usually just add a few Jarritos to the order. Overall, we still use this place due to the lack of great quality nearby as we have tried and failed with many other options.

Terrible service. I waited an hour for three tacos. The server never came by to refill my drink. The food and service earned one star. They get a second star for tuning all tv's to the Cubs game.

Best Fried Tacos on the North Side or possibly the entire City. I love the fried tacos here .They come with many different fillings but the best is the ground beef. I am from the South East Side originally so I grew up with Mexican Inn (which closed down recently). La Cazuela is as good as Mexican Inn if not better. They are better because they are huge and two will fill you up. The prices are not the cheapest, but the portions are pretty good. If you want good authentic fried Mexican Tacos, try La Cazuela.

I don't know about the other dishes, but the first item I tried was La Mariscada - an amalgam of seafood over rice. THIS IS AMAZING! The octopus in it is, by far, the best I have ever had. I could just eat that. It's tenderized to perfection in a fashion that is extremely rare. The red salsa is very spicy and fish broth is used. It is interesting and delicious. If you can't stand the heat, however, don't even attempt it. As for the owner whom people are criticizing on here, he is very stern, cantankerous, and cheap. However, once you eat the food, which is also quite easy on your wallet, he is easy to overlook. I'm an awful critic of most Mexican joints here in Chicago being from Phoenix, but this is my exception! Try La Mariscada!

We used to order delivery from there when it was on GrubHub. Yep, we paid the exorbitant delivery fee for this place because the food was that good. However, since they have changed to another on-line delivery service, we have tried to place several orders, and the order place can never reach the restaurant to place the order. Needless to say, we're done with them...and we probably placed 40-50 orders with them over the last year.

Though normally when I'd say 3.5 I would have it down to a 3, La Cazuela had more than enough to make me want to go here repeatedly. So, in the end that works out for me. I was just keeping it simple today so I went with a veggie taco and two chicken tacos. These tacos are no joke as they pack a ton into them. The veggie taco is mostly rice in it, while the chicken had a whole ton in there. Now, my eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach, but I "had" to force down a chicken tamale along with getting a side of guac. The tamale was really good and the gauc was so good that I ended up stuffing myself for the rest of the day. c'est la vie. It's rare that I stop in rogers park, it's normally a drive through for me depending on where I'm going. I'm thinking that I'm gonna need to change that now.

Oh my delicious! This taqueria is putting up quite the fight for favorite taqueria on Clark, (other favorite, Restaurante Cuetzala Gro, near the Walgreens/Dominics a bit more north on Clark). The best part about walking into this clean, modern little restaurant is the wonderful, wonderfffullll smell of grilled seafood that wafts over you when you open the door. Not overpowering, not over fishy, just the right kind of mouthwatering fresh seafood smell. The bf ordered 4 tacos - shrimp, fish, asada and al pastor I ordered 1 shrimp taco and 1 asada tostada. The shrimp tacos were awesome, piled super high, awesome flavor and fantastic with a spritz of lemon. Tried a bite of the bf's fish and al pastor tacos, both delicious, the fish not too strong a flavor but very good, and the al pastor awesome, slightly sweet and oh so good. I thought the asada was super tasty too, I loved my tostada, the bf thought the asada was a little tough however. I did not agree. I think he was just more interested in his seafood tacos and quite full by the time he tried his asada taco. Good salsa on the table and friendly service. I am interested in starving myself all day and coming here for a nice dinner to try something more substantial like shrimp enchiladas, the bf wants to try the red snapper. We will definitely be back, cannot believe we waited so long to try this place.

Seafood at a no-frills Mexican place in Rogers Park? Sure! The caldo 7 mares (7 seas soup) is INCREDIBLE. For $13.99, you get a mammoth bowl on soup filled with seafood. I had clams, mussels, shrimp, crab (claws and crab stick), octopus, TWO kinds of fish, cabbage. potato, and this spicy seafood broth. I pretty much ate the entire thing save for a crab claw and the warm corn tortillas. The soup of my dreams! La Cazuela also does a great taco al pastor. Chips were crisp and salsas (two of them!) were spicy. Mmm. Most of the time, I was face deep into my soup. The rest of the time, I had my head buried deep into the menu to scope out what I would be ordering the next time. Shrimp, crab, and octopus cocktail? Grilled shrimp with garlic sauce? Red snapper with garlic and wine? Fish tacos? I just don't know! I love the food here. Parking is a breeze on this stretch of Clark and it was relatively empty on a Friday evening (during Lent too - people are really missing out). It is BYOB and you can swipe plastic over $10. I cannot wait to go back.

The wife and I live only a few blocks east of the unofficial Clark Street Mexican district (a few blocks north of the unofficial Swedish/LGBT district of Clark Street), but have never tried any of the taquerias. I saw this one in TIme Out, decided to skip on Taco Bell for lunch and it was great! Quickly, the inside is much nicer than the average Mexican place, closer to a restaurant. The decor is fun, although they have a gigante flatscreen on one wall, so be aware if that's a plus or minus for you. More importantly, the "patio" is f---ing amazing. There is a 15' x15' area you could describe as a backyard patio (suburban grill, unused high chair, hoses) with about seating for 7-1 and a round outdoor fireplace. The remainder of the patio is AN ENGLISH GARDEN. I mean, the gardening is not Botanical Garden standards, but this is way beyond patio. We ate on a nice, intimate, metal table along a pebble-strewn path. There are tall hedges, flowering plants, shady trees, a rose bush. I am not greatly exaggerating to say I would get married here. Anyway, check out the photos, pretty nice. As for the food, I would say it was damn good overall. I'm not a Chicago Mexican-food scenester (if you are, go to Big Star = yum), but I was impressed. I liked the pre-entree chips, which were crunchy but not crumble-flakey, and not ground-corn gritty. They came with refried beans and two salsas which were really good. The tacos were good, though I would want more seasoning. The quesadilla and enchiladas were cheesy, spicy and great. I also had delicious shrimp empanadas. Tasty, not-too-crunchy, not-too soft breading and good mix of shrimp, vegs and spice inside. The only thing I could have written off was the guac. It was too bland for me, but I DO go salt and cilantro crazy when I make my own. For drinks, we had tasty but pretty sweet margaritas, which were "upgraded" off-menu to be more fun. We had too many of them and drove up my bill, but otherwise, I'd say this was a $100 experience for $30-40: Same inexpensive tasty taco/burrito fare you'd see at most taquerias, but with the ability to order delicious entrees including beans and rice you'd pay way more for at a restaurant, all while watching a bumblebee collect pollen from the flowers one foot away from you. (note: bees were not a problem). Oh, and the waitress was very friendly and helpful!

Good food, great patio out back; awesome service - a lovely spot for a nice summer day. Inside ambiance is nothing to brag about, but you go for the food - will totally go back here next summer.

Overall: Good food, tasty tacos (made it to the TimeOut Chicago taco lists!), and nice staff. The Deets: Easy parking, and lovely inside filled with bright colors. The menu is what you'd expect at a Mexican restaurant, but the standouts are the tacos that are $2/taco for all meats and $2.50/fish taco. And they make their own freshly made tortilla chips brought to your table - like so piping hot you gotta be careful putting it into your mouth! The "al pastor" taco is simply lovely. Not greasy and has a wonderful spice to it! Love it. Also, the "chorizo" (sausage) taco is to die for. So nicely charred and just all around a great chorizo taco. I'd gladly come back here for the tacos.

I am Mexican and this food is very authentic. Especially, the crispy tacos. These type of tacos are very hard to find in most restaurants, usually just a store bought hard shell fried, but not here. They are authentic meaning a corn tortilla fried with ground beef--just like my mom makes. Delicious! Thank you La Cazuela. The only other place I know that makes this is Camino Real in Hammond, IN.

It passed the rice and beans test with the wife. The al pastor was extremely fresh and full of nice pineapple and onion chunks. We are sure to return. Great, friendly staff and clean bright environment. They even sell used golf clubs.

This is my only Mexican place. My husband and I never go anywhere else. He loves the chorizo burritos and tacos, while I tend to get the chicken. Everything is fresh and delicious. We love the green salsa. They have a nice seating area and a pretty outdoor garden where you can eat when the weather cooperates. We usually get it for pick-up though, and it's always fast and friendly.

Even though it's a bit of a hike from my neighborhood, I'll drive to La Cazuela again and again when I can. The tacos and the choices therein were fantastic! Tasty, filling and price was affordable after a major loss at the track. Staff very friendly and oh my, the bathroom was great! Believe me, a nice bathroom does me every time! Oh...and PS...i didn't even go to the track. Haven't been in years...i don't have a problem.

Not bad but the vegetarian options are really skimpy. Their fresh juices are awesome and they have a cute patio.

It's not fancy, just a store front, and there's no guarantee you can order in English, but pointing works great, and the food is delicious. Fresh chips and two very different and tasty salsas with just the right kick will show up when you sit down. This is especially the place for fish, prepared in many different ways. My favorite is one of the simplest, Torta de Pescado, a fish sandwich that is almost criminally inexpensive. The delicious fresh made guacamole is also a steal. Highly recommended.

Great lunch specials. Clean, well-lit, nicely-decorated. Fast, friendly, generous service. Delicious chips with two salsas and bean dip. Looks a little nicer than some of the many other mexican places on the block. Hearty lunch for two plus drinks...$12. Can't beat it. Will return.

A friend and I each got a taco dinner (3 tacos of choice, rice, and beans), and between the two of us we tried the fish, shrimp, chorizo, carne asada, and chicken tacos. Each taco came packed with filling, and chipotle sauce and salsa verde were included on the side. The tacos were delicious, as were the rice and beans. The menu online is out of date; the tacos run $2-2.50 each.

C and I discovered that La Cazuela has a garden/patio. Very serene. A perfect hideaway. We had tacos. Fish and al pastor. Excellent. I really loved the refriend beans. Theirs are the kind that are velvety smooth. We keep coming back.

Love this place! We love the salsas and refried beans that are brought out with chips prior to the meal. I had fish tacos today which were amazing. We have also tried enchiladas, tacos, burritos, and the shrimp empanadas. All excellent! Have always had fantastic food and service...the outside patio is wonderful in the summer!

  • Stephanie W.

I used to love this place. I'd overlook the fact they never had the heat on, because the shrimp tacos were pretty good. Then, they served us shrimp tacos with canned shrimp, cooked on the grill. One of the worst meals I'd ever had in my entire life.

    (1)
  • Karen P.

I used to live right around the corner from this place, ordered regularly, and as other reviewers have said the tacos were completely addictive, well seasoned, filling, esp the shrimp and fish, though friends have said the grilled steak tacos were also great. I don't eat red meat, but I trust her taste. Unfortunately my last trip there (after I moved further west and hadn't been for a month or so) was awful: I ordered chicken tacos and got dry overcooked meat, half the amount usually provided, and poorly seasoned. It was such a bad experience it's debatable if I'll go back. If I do I'll be sure to tell them not to do the same thing to ne again.

We call this place, "Rat Garden." Anyway, I go here for the outdoors. You can drink, smoke, eat, and watch the rats run through the bushes. It's funny when yuppies jump up from there chairs and then try to laugh it off and finish their food without being totally disgusted. I LOVE this place. The ceviche sucks, but the fish tacos are pretty decent. The shrimp empanada is gooood! The salsa is different, spicy, and I enjoy it, although my sister does not. The owner is cool as hell and there is free parking in the bank parking lot next door. What more can you ask for?

We live around the corner and love being able to walk over with some beer/wine in tow for an authentic and unbelievably affordable Mexican dinner! The tacos are well seasoned and packed. I love that they are topped with cilantro and onion rather than just lettuce and tomato. Their salsas are fresh and the red is better than I've had anywhere else in Chicago. I love that they set out chips, two salsas AND refried beans when you sit. The tamale was a little dry, but at $1.50 each they are a deal. I took a star away for the loud TVs and slightly musty smell on our last visit. It would be nice if at dinner time they turned down the TVs a bit and maybe put on some background music. Lovely patio for dining as well. Im glad to have it in my neighborhood.

Thought the tacos here were among the best. Had the shrimp, carne asada and the al pastor (which was by far the best al pastor tacos I've had in Chicago). The shrimp tasted fresh and clean, and were seasoned well. Carne asada was dressed with tomatoes and lettuce, but none of the others were, which confused us since we didn't expect to see lettuce and tomato at all. Not a bad thing, just strange. Also had a milanesa torta, which was good and had ample melty cheese, but it paled in comparison to the tacos, truthfully. We also tried the shrimp empanada, which some people had said was really good, but I found it to be a little meh. Would save your calories for the chips and duo of salsas they provide at the table. Service was efficient and friendly. Prices are reasonable/low. Easy street parking. In all, La Cazuela is easily our new favorite local Mexican place.

Came here on a Thursday night with friend to grab some well earned shrimp cocktails. Forty minutes later we get chips, another 10 mins I get my drink and and while waiting another twenty minutes for my friends margarita, we both ravenously almost chipped our teeth. Beware they have rocks in the beans! Finally, Two hours later we get two shrimp tacos...now I understand That there was only one waitress but all I wanted was a gahdam shrimp cocktail. so upsetting that i got a yelp account.

La Cazuela is one of my favorite restaurant for a number of reasons; number one being the food is terrific! I most always find myself ordering the Fish Tacos which are light, very flavorful and perfectly seasoned, authentic Mexican cuisine. From their guacamole to the fresh squeezed juices, it is obvious that only the freshest ingredients are used in this kitchen. For breakfast, I'm a sucker for the Eggs ala Mexicana, scrambled with fresh tomato and jalapeno peppers. Fresh tortillas are served so you can make your own little wraps. The other reviewer is right, the coffee is terrible. There is a Dunkin Donuts near buy and they let you bring it in. Their Enchilada's Verde are also amazing, as well as the chips and salsas you are served after settling in. A green and a red sauce are served and both are really hot. In the summer they have the most amazing little back patio and garden. A perfect little hidden gem! They even let you bring your beer, if you don't want a cold Jaritos or juice. Over the winter (or any time of the year) you can enjoy a huge bowl of piping hot soup with chicken, shrimp or seafood. The soup is served with diced onion, lime, and cilantro on the side for you to add to taste yourself. Although the prices have nearly doubled in the 4 1/2 yrs I've been frequenting the place it La Cazuela is still very affordable. Typically, Silvia is the waitress. She and her husband own the place (I think so anyway, my Spanish and her English are both pretty poor). She is very pleasant and efficient. The décor is simple but tasteful. It's not over done like a lot of Mexican Restaurants with choch-skis everywhere. The juke box plays randomly when no one is playing it, but we often play music even though we don't know what in the heck we have selected. It's all Latino music. With a zillion and 1 Mexican restaurants in Rogers Park, this is the BEST!

tried this place twice - both times very tasty. friendly service that can be a bit slow - but not too bad. very cute back garden/patio area - unfortunately, the tables out there are so small, that the patio won't work if you are more than two people. oh well. we'll be back again and again.

My boyfriend and I can't stay away from this place! We had all the good intentions to try new places, but La Cazuela is just SO good! Andy loves the Chorrizo Chimichanga. Considering it's a greasy sausage filled burrito that is then deep fried, it's surprisingly less greasy than at other places! I personally am a huge fan of the tacos and/or tortas El Pastor. It's always moist, fresh and full of flavor. I am also a huge fan of the Carne Asada Enchiladas with red sauce. Speaking of the red salsa, unlike most places this is a creamy based red salsa, not just tomato based. It's packs a good amount of heat, but is rich with layers of flavor as well. When mixed with the beans, drizzled on a taco, or used as the enchilada sauce the heat is tamed down, but the flavor is not lost. In the summer the beer garden is a must do! It's like sitting on someone's back porch with bird feeders and flowers everywhere. Very peaceful and relaxed. They're a BYOB restaurant, but they do sell beer, Modello and only Modello.

This is my husband and I's favorite Mexican restaurant on Clark and has been for years. It's fairly priced. They have great lunch specials and it's also a good delivery place. We prefer to eat in though because their horchata is amazing. They also have a nice quite patio in back to eat at in the summer.

Not a fan of this place anymore. The last two times I've been here to pick up, the food was ice cold when I got home. I live 5 minutes' drive away and the burritos were just flat out cold and sloppy. The flavor was relatively bland as well so I will return to my quest for the best burrito on Clark St. Also, they changed the ceviche, which used to be really tasty and had bigger pieces of fresh fish. Now, the fish is finely chopped, doesn't taste as fresh, more expensive and less flavor. La Cazuela, you fell off!

Of all the Mexican and Latino restaurants on Clark St in Rogers Park , La Cazuela is my favorite. They serve the basics, but they execute. The tortas are on fresh, crisp, toasted bread. The tacos are cooked fresh. By the way, they have some of the best fish (grilled tilapia) tacos I have ever had, and this includes the street vendors in Acapulco and Mazatlan. The interior is bright, and of course if the music is off, the telenovellas are on the TV. Great horchata, and CocCola Mexicana in the glass bottle. Best part? Diner for one is usually under 12$, with drink (Coke, as it is BYOB).

The tacos are my favorite, especially the shrimp and fish tacos, they're outstanding. I also really enjoyed the enchiladas with chicken and mole, although one time when I ordered it there was no cheese...hmm. Try sitting in the outdoor garden, it's beautiful!

I kept passing by this place for awhile, then one day, I decided to eat lunch there. Not the worst food I've had, but not a whole lot to write home about either, although the re-fried beans were very good. The staff is not big on substitutions; I wanted a banana smoothie instead of the usual soda offerings for the lunch special I ordered. We went back and forth a bit, then they told me the bananas they had -- a few were right next to the cash register -- were green and they didn't want to use them. So why were the bananas out there? Bring cash instead of a debit or credit card if ordering lunch specials. Most of the specials are under ten dollars, and the cashier won't take a card unless the order is ten dollars or over. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see a sign stating that. I ended up having to order something extra which irritated me. I don't tend to keep going to places that demand people order a certain dollar amount before they will accept cards.

La Cazuela is our favorite 'hole in the wall' Mexican in Rogers Park. It gets 5 stars, not because it's the best restaurant, but because its the best restaurant in it's category....good, cheap, authentic mexican. There are a TON of mexican places on/around Clark in Rogers Park and this is the best we've had. Very authentic food done well. The service is friendly, the decor is typical for this type of restaurant, though there is a very nice, and hidden, patio seating area out back that's open during the warm season. La Cazuela is BYOB, so bring your margaritas or cerveza!

I had been going to this place since 2000. Some days the food was better than others, and I think the owner goes through a lot of cooks. But when it was good, it was great, especially the fish tacos and shrimp tostadas. However, a few months I went there with my husband, and they served him canned shrimp in the shrimp tacos. It tasted like cat food, and was the worse meal I've ever had in my entire life. That was the end of my love for La Cazeula, and I have no plans of going back.

I'm so lucky with restaurants. And it's not just me, the friends I take to these places think they're amazing. I've been getting La Cazuelas fish tacos and shrimp empanadas for a while and they are outstanding. I was scared to venture to far away from these as I didn't want to be disappointed. But yesterday I got the shirmp burrito, guacamole. And my friend got the chicken burrito. I LOVED IT. And he loved his. Easily the gold standard of taco restaurants on North Clark. They are also BYOB which can make it dirt cheap AND they have a beautiful patio out back.

Best Mexican food I have had by far! Staff was super friendly and the food was delicious! I highly recommend the fried plantains and the chicken enchiladas. The back patio is so adorable! Make sure to bring some Pacifico along! La Cazuela will definitely be my regular choice for Mexican cuisine.

Join me as I date my way through Chicago, won't you? First up on the roster: La Cazuela with Very Cute Boy (Henceforth referred to as VCB). This was the perfect venue for the casual first date with VCB; being BYOB, we picked up beer and headed in at about 7:30pm. At first glance, it seems as though this is your standard small authentic Mexican joint, but oh no! VCB proceeds to the back counter, mumbles something to the nice lady working there and with a knowing smile she motions us past and to a inconspicuous side door. Out we go, and viola! A beautiful garden spreads before us with a smattering of wrought iron tables and chairs. We choose, sit, and begin the first date banter. Scanning the menu, it seems there is a fair amount of variety, though in the end I went with my old standby, chicken tacos. Though I didn't go the adventurous route, I can tell you that these tacos were delicious- the meat was cooked perfectly and the seasonings were spot on. I can't quite remember what VCB ordered (he has gorgeous crazy blue eyes, excuse my inattention and preoccupation) but I do know that he enjoyed it so much that he took his leftovers home, and he isn't the doggy bag type. Great food, lovely atmosphere, and it led to a second date. Happy? Well, yeah!

It's cheap, it's good and it's across the street from me, so it's a great option when I'm too tired to make dinner. Service can be a little bit slow but I believe they only have the one waitress and cook (and apparently a brisk take away business). In particular I recommend the skirt steak burrito.

I really used to love this place, but then they changed the lunch menu (tacos)...... I would come in 2X a week and now won't be going back anymore. Sad to say, but they have lost a loyal customer. The food is good tho.

Forget the comments about the poor wait staff. You need to get into manana mode. This is not your typical anglo tex/mex/chain experience. The food is authentic Mexican, as is the atmosphere. The store is immaculate and the decorating (fish motif) is worth a visit. Obviously somoene cares and wants to set this place apart from the several dozen other Mexican restaturants on Clark in good old East Rogers Park. The lunch special Salmon is the best deal in town for $6.99 including awesome refried beans, rice and a little salad. The chips are good with interesting, not too spicey, dips. The Chili Relleno for $5.99 is good and defintiely different than most. Perhaps you coudl say it could be cooked a little more, but maybe not. I have not tried the seafood dinners, but seeing others indulging, they look awesome. If you are a seafood lover, this may be your new restaturant of choice. Parking is easy (pay to park has the advantage of always having parking in Rogers Park where many won't spend the quarters). If you live in Rogers Park, support this restaurant! Too often Rogers Parkers leave the hood to dine. We will never an abundance fo great restaurants if we don't support our local restaurants.

The chips are fresh, the salsa is spicy, and the service is friendly. Great taqueria! I had the chorizo taco dinner and had more food than I could eat. I hardly touched the beans and rice because I gorged myself on chips and guacamole, but the little bit that I did eat was quite good. The best part of the meal was, by far, the chorizo tacos. Very flavorful and yummy! If you don't take advantage of the BYOB, you should ask for a Mexican Coke. I don't know if I'll ever drink American Coke again.

Just randomly stopped in for a quick lunch while on a walk. I've seen this place for a long while, but mistakenly dismissed it is one of many subpar Mexican restaurants on this strip of Clark St. I was super wrong. Great flavors, great prices. Had a few different seafood tacos and was pleasantly surprised. And they deliver! I grabbed a menu and will be calling them in the near future.

Been going to La Cazuela for years. Awesome Al pastor, great chorizo (not too greasy), and a funny yet inviting seafood decor. Their pulpo (octopus) is good, and their fish tacos are also nice - above average seafood for what is essentially a taco shop. Mario, the owner, isn't Mexican (he's Ecuadorian), but has obviously learned the tricks of the trade. He is especially generous if you decide to have him cater for you. Tons of food for very cheap, a great way to feed a group. The service in the restaurant is rarely good but not fast, although speaking in Spanish can definitely earn you some cred as far as the waitresses go. Awesome patio in the back, great for summer time, and it's BYOB......definitely don't be shy, bring a 12 pack and enjoy some tacos out back, it feels like you're just hanging out in someone's back yard! Cheap, delicious, super fresh everything....

I love fish tacos and the wife loves Mexican food so I thought I could look like I am doing something nice for her (Mexican night!) and try another fish taco place in Chi-town! Walking in, the place smells great...just like you are in Mexico. I don't know what makes some places smell like dirty, moldy water and some bring you back to the amazing vacations you had in Puerto Vallarta...but this place brought me back. The food was good, not great but good enough that we will probably return. I would have to disagree with other reviewers about the fish tacos being the best in Chicago. I still have not found a GREAT baja-style fish taco. By the way, these are not baja-style fish tacos if you care. I noticed everyone complains about the service...not the best, but not that bad. It was similar to what you would experience in a typical Mexican restaurant in Mexico.

I wholeheartedly adore La Caz. It's the best Mexican food I've had in Chicago. I usually stick with the quesadillas, but the rice and refried beans are what set La Caz apart. The service is friendly, and the place is immaculately clean. I also appreciate their BYOB policy and their cute patio. Highly recommended.

I placed an order for delivery. The driver called me to ask directions when he was a few blocks away from my home. After that he apparently changed his mind about delivering the order and went straight back to the restaurant. I found out only by calling the restaurant after waiting an hour and a half for my food.

Food looks delicious but I've only stopped in twice for coffee, which is closer to gas-station coffee than anything you'll get at a coffee-shop. They very obligingly pack you up a to-go cup, even though, technically, it's a restaurant, not a cafe. Oh, it's a Mexican place, but nicer than bottom end hole in the wall TORTAS TACOS BURRITOS AY YAY YAY Mexican, where the floor is uneven, not all the tables match, and you wonder just how they passed that recent inspection. (You see the license up on the wall by the counter and contemplate the date, and learn your first lesson in local politics.) One of the few places in East Rogers Park reviewed by Time Out magazine. They proudly display it - laminated. In fact, lamination is the key-word, because the decor is nice and new and clean. Time-Out says seafood cocktails are the specialty, and in summer you can dine in the patio ("when is open and is no cold" - this at the end of MAY! gotta lova the Midwest, huh?), under the sun, sipping a corona, just like if you were smack in the middle of the mother country itself on vay-kay. Or some shit like that. I don't know, no Anglos besides me in attendance.

Another great dinner (deal) at La Cazuela!! Shrimp burrito had so much shrimp! Just awesome; tasted great! Love their refried beans and rice And, fantastic guacamole and chips. Friendly service, slow at times but I understand because so many people were there and only one server. The food came to us quickly and was outstanding. Yum! ¡Muy Fantástico! We sat out back in the beautiful & lush landscaped patio. BYOB

We sat in the patio for dinner. Most of the tables where dirty with plates and dried salsa which looked like it had been sitting there for an hour. We waited for about 10 min. for a waiter but no luck. I finally had to get up and walk to the kitchen and inquire about a waitress. The waiter brought out chips and salsa but no ice water. The ice water came out at the same time as the drink order. Our food order came out about 20 min late,r a little long for a simple taco plate. We will not be returning to this place.

I came to La Cazuela since the accept IMS barter dollars. The Guac was awesome and you got the right amount for the price. The fajitas were very good and overall it was a good experience. Took awhile for the food to come and the area is kinda iffy. Not a repeat customer, since there are sooo many other Mexican family owned places to try and this one did not stick out.

Food was good. The service is friendly and accommodating, though slow...This is a place you go to sit a while and talk while you eat, which is a good idea since it's a BYOB and they even politely chill your beer. The patio is very nice, lots of plants/flowers.

The best part about La Cazuela (which Google tells me translates roughly as "The Casserole") is the magnificent outdoor patio. It's also BYOB so if you're a cheap date and want to have a quasi-romantic meal under the stars and drink your own cheap booze, then La Cazuela is your place. HOWEVER (and bear in mind I've only eaten there once) the chips I had were nothing special, the guacamole was bland and the tacos were dry. I guess the shrimp tacos were ok. I would try La Cazuela again, probably bring some beer and request to sit on the patio, so I guess it's not a total dud. They do have an extensive menu that includes a lot of seafood. I think I'll order something a little more off the beaten path next time. Until then, La Cazuela, you are decidedly average.

yep, four stars. i've been to this restaurant quite a few times, and each time i'm full and happy in under 20 minutes and for less than $10. so, for a person that's not the biggest fan of mexican food in the states, i find myself eating quite a bit of it here. perhaps in search of that authentic flavor, beats me. but i like it here a lot. you probably won't recognize the food here if you're used to cheese covered anything and sour cream topped everything. if that's what you want, please proceed to the nearest taco bell (hey, this ain't hate, i love me some taco hell from time to time myself. can you say fire sauce?). i love the shrimp and fish tacos here, done right with two corn tortillas, meat, some pico and cilantro, with lime on da side. no white stuff. get here for the lunch specials under 8 bucks (2 tacos, beans and rice for $4.99. yeah, for real). i've also tried the tortas, and guacamole. everything so far is good. not a fancy place, but looks family owned, clean and the staff is kind. i'm not a big soda pop drinker, but i like that they sell the mexican import of coca cola, you know the one sans the high fructose corn syrup. OH! i can't forget the homemade chips and salsas you get with the meal. a mild green chili/cilantro salsa and a fiery red chili sauce. this stuff is good. i spread it all over the tacos, rice, anything. this place makes me glad i live up north sometimes.

Great fish, good sides, BYOB, nice garden, good service. They take entertainment coupons ALL days even holidays. Unfortunately our family of 4 ALL got sick. Ranged from mild to debilitating. Considering it was all of us, it must have been something we all ate, perhaps the rice. It's too bad since everyone liked the place and we planned to go back.

Delicious. Never eaten in, but have carried out several times. My husband loves the chicken soup, the tacos are simple and delicious, guac is awesome, and the burritos are huge. Got enchilladas once and they were so-so because I think the red sauce and melted cheese didn't carry-out well, but other than that one time, everything else has been excellent. Highly recommended.

Oh, I love this place! Their beans and rice are out of this world. The fish dishes are always fresh and everything is made to order. Love the fish tacos, and if I ask for something not on the menu, it is not a problem. The chorizo is a favorite as well. Sitting out back in the patio is a little oasis for those of us without backyards.

Last spring, one day after work I randomly picked a Mexican restaurant to buy a burrito. The burrito was so good that I actually went back the very next day to buy another one. Little did I know that that random Mexican restaurant was La Cazuela. Two weeks ago, I read about the great fish tacos at La Cazuela, not knowing it was the same place from last spring. Well the night I went, I accidentally went into the Mexican restaurant right next door to La Cazuela. But by the time I realized my mistake, my debit card had already been charged and they were making my fish tacos. The fish tacos were horrible with a small scattering of fish bits in the tacos. Don't make the same mistake I did. Last week, I decided to get it right and walk into the correct restaurant. The two fish tacos I ordered for carry-out were great!! They were overloaded with perfectly-seasoned fish and cooked just right. Also, I don't understand the horrible service reviews. Between the dining room and the patio, the place is considerably big. And I only saw one server working the place, so a short wait was to be expected for great food.

I'm so glad we tried this place! We went on a Friday night, brought a couple beers and had a really good experience. The chips and salsa were great - the green salsa was my favorite. It was good on the chips and later on my fish. The pink/peach colored salsa had some heat but not nearly as much flavor. I ordered the red snapper w/ garlic and wine sauce, my husband ordered 4 tacos (two fish, two chicken). I was a bit surprised when my meal was served and I had a whole fish on my plate ("whole fish" was noted on the menu but not on the entree I ordered) and I was disappointed because I ordered it grilled and it was fried. But, all and all it was very tasty though. The tacos were really good too - the chicken in particular had some good flavor. And it was cheap eats for sure! The BYOB option is great and kept our meal to around $20. I was a bit surprised that we were the only two people in the restaurant when we arrived at 730p on a Friday, but the dining room had picked up quite a bit by the time we'd left. And they seemed to do a lot of take out business. I was expecting slower service based on other reviews but our waitress was good and the food came out in about the amount of time expected; although not what I'd consider slow.

Not sure what the raving about here... Had 3 different tacos, and while they LOOKED like they were going to be good and plenty filling for the price...didn't really have much flavor. Not sure if they make the corn tortillas in house but they didn't seem like they were too fresh. Carne asada was blanding, after eating one I just ate the meat off the 2nd to make sure and yeah... pretty much no spices at all. The orangish salsa was pretty good but the salsa verde was again, bland, Dominicks salsa verde has more flavor and that is pretty sad. Looked nice inside and nice patio though. If you want big portions go here, if you actually have taste buds...not so much. I am used to tacos out in California for awhile now and coming back to Chicago...wow what a let down. I will have to keep venturing though and I know la pasadita and several others are good.

Went to La Cazuela for the first time tonight. I had the enchiladas which were excellent. Would definitely recommend, but make sure you're not in a hurry because the service is a bit slow. BYOB.

We happened upon this place by accident. It's really beautifully decorated. This place reminds me of Mexico. The food here is so good and the closest I've found in Chicago to actual Mexican seafood. The ceviche is perfect. Nice and lime-y served on a tostada. The fish here is really nicely seasoned - that is to say simply seasoned. It stands on it's own. I think a lot of people who associate Mexican food with typical taqueria fare would be surprised at how simple and understated true Mexican food can be. The service here is very friendly. I think they have live music on Friday nights too. It's BYOB so make sure you bring a six pack of Pacifico or 2.

I think (apart for the food) that the best thing about Cazuela is the decor and patio. It stands out to me, and doesnt make you feel like you are sitting in a dining hall or some random "i could be anywhere" taqueria. Its never super busy, but Ive gone here with a group of about 10 and they were accommodating to the group and to the kids with us. Im a spice wuss, so I always need a taste tester for the salsas they put on the table! I usually end up burning the crap put of my mouth anyhow because the green one is so good! I was a little wary of guac and (homemeade!) chips being $7, but the guac is SO GOOD and you get about two cups of it. I love the enchiladas and posole, and the horchata ROCKS! Although I am upset that I have to choose between the BYOB and horchata. A plus for me is that they have posole every day, not just weekends, and that it isnt spicy! Service (dine in and delivery) is meh, but then again this isnt Alinea. For what it is, its my favorite! Stopped going to other mexican places after discovering Cazuela!

So I went back to this place for a 3rd time once again another bad experience here. I ordered the fish taco dinner with chips and guacamole on the side. When I got there (I phoned in my order) they had charged me 6 bucks for the guac I told them I wasn't aware the guac was that much the girl said it's a small container of guac I asked her to take if off my ticket she told me she couldn't do that and that I would have to pay for it. I told her I wasn't going to pay for something I didn't want she told me too bad it's already been made. I told her well I am not going to pay for it she said to me it wasn't her problem and that she would get the manager. She got the manager he asked me if I knew the price I said no he said well you need to ask the prices before you order. He then asked me if I had a menu at home I said no. I guess since I have never paid that much for guac I wasn't expecting it to be that pricey or as much as my taco dinner. He told me the reason why they charge what they do is because it's made fresh as if there is any other way to make guac. So he agreed to take it off my check. The girl swiped my signed card for the taco dinner and told me she needed to see my ID and I showed it to her but informed her that it's the law you do not need to show your ID we went back and forth she told me that wasn't the law at all and then the manager chymed in I explained to them to refer to Visa's website because it is the law after going back and forth with him on the matter he then told me he didn't care about the law he only cared about what happened in his rest. Nevermind the fact that there were 6 cops in the rest at the time. I did tell him it was wonderful thing he didn't not care about the law that's just great. He told me he was only asking for my ID to protect me as if he cares about me the individual. It's sad when such establishments are ran by such ignorant individuals. I explained to him he still would have no solid proof my ID is really me. Protect the customer by not charging them 6 bucks for gauc I can get it cheaper in the store. In conclusion although the tacos are pretty good the service sucks they will talk to you any kind of way they feel. They couldn't even spell the word customer service if their life depended on it furthermore they do not know the law because it is a fact the law you do not have to show your ID when using your credit card. They are just plain rude and I would not recommend this place to anyone. I feel if your spending your money you should be respected especially in this economy when eating out is an option. There is no way a manager should be arguing with you over your rights. Any other place would have said oh l let me just take that off your bill no questions asked not argue you down that's really not gonna make me buy anything from you. Oh and I forgot to mention the most important part. My order was wrong go figure how hard is it to get 2 shrimp tacos and 1 fish and I repeated this to them 3 times and when I arrived the order was wrong. Oh well never again.

Worst delivery experience ever. The restaurant appeared on Grubhub as delivering to my address. They took my order, credit card information and address. They called back twice to verify the location and how to get to my address and I gave them directions. An hour and a half later nothing. I called and a woman who mumbled on the phone claimed that her boss said my address was too far. I asked for her boss, Mario and he told me the same thing. He also lied and claimed that they told me the address was too far and made up nonsense about how I hung up the phone on them? Bottom line, don't trust Mario with anything from customer service to running a restaurant to delivery. If you would even think about someone like this catering for you, think again. No social skills and I can only assume the food is of low quality with this kind of attention to detail.

I love the food, the prices, the service and most of all the location. I live just around the corner and this is the best place in RP within walking distance on Clark. In the summer the back garden is a must. You feel a bit like you are in someone's back yard or a small park. A nice break to feel like you have gotten away for a moment. The waitresses are very friendly and helpful. Always have a smile and patient with me while I am deciding what to have to eat. The food is very good and has some great veggie options, especially if you eat fish. I did have the veggie tacos, so some vegan options, no cheese is included. If you do like fish, their is ceviche, shrimp and lots of fish options. I had the shrimp empanada, also very delicious! Everything is very fresh and home made tasting. Give La Cazuela a try, you migh miss it as you drive past on Clark but is a great hidden treasure.

la cazuela is my favorite mexican take-out in chicago. however, the service is pretty much crap, so i mostly stick to carry-out. i love that their tacos are just like the ones you can get on an evening stroll outside la catedral in any mexican city. order anything al pastor or with carne asada and you'll be very, very happy. their veggie tacos with avocado might make you climax (cilantro and onions... so good!). also, the salsa and chips are pretty damn tasty. go on a summer afternoon and sit in their backyard. if you bring your own bottle of wine, the slow service won't even matter.

I was very happy to discover La Cazuela after moving to Rogers Park form Logan Square because Cuernavaca was now officially across town for me. I went to La Cazuela to attent a Rogers Park Business "chamber" event hosted by them and loved their food! They specialize in sea food - they always have good deals on breaded shrimp - but their Arrachera (the red meat by which I judge all Mexican restaurants) is pretty freaking good. When I have a craving for Mexican food this is the place I go and I am SO GLAD it's close to me! I also don't get the typical tummy aches or indigestion some of he taquerias in the city will give you. So this place is up there with Cuernavaca and Los Nopales. Service is typical Mexican *wink*: relaxed so a little slow for american standards :) I do wish this place got more business, it's always semi-empty and I think many people don't know of this little treasure. they lso have REAL veggie and fruit juices for morning commuters.

La Cazuela is a standout amongst blocks crowded with taquerias. A small storefront restaurant serving food that even Rick Bayless would find inviting..Ceveche tostada is a wonderful fresh seafood dish redolent with lime and topped with sliced avocado - large enough for 3 for $5. The tacos ($1.50) come loaded with pork, beef, chicken, fish or shrimp. Two are enough for most appetites. Order a dinner with three ($7.50 with rice and refried beans) and you are assured of taking some home. Fruit or vegetable drinks and smoothies are available. The staff is exceedingly friendly. Step into the backyard and you will be delighted by a beautiful secluded garden where you can eat, weather permitting. 5 stars on a 2 star budget. This little restaurant is Zagat rated and no wonder. Read on and see other rave reviews on Yelp.

I have been going to La Cazuela for about two years and always had a 4 star experience. Tonight I went there for carry out and received one incorrect order and a chorizo burrito with completely raw chorizo. I will probably give it one more chance but it will be alone as my wife will not go there anymore after biting into raw chorizo.

I can't believe everyone likes this place so much. I thought the food was very average (the meat on my taco was over-salted to a point I couldn't eat it) and overpriced. The service was slow and awful. The waitress barely spoke any English and couldn't answer any of the questions about the menu. When my combo taco order came without a salad that it was supposed to come with (which was clearly stated on the menu), the waitress told me that they don't add salad to this dish anymore. When I asked her to confirm with the manager, the manager looked very annoyed at my request and refused to give me the salad that was supposed to come with dish in the first place! Very disappointed!

husband and i are eating our way up clark street, devon north. this was our 6th outing. the chips were above average. fresh. the green salsa was also above average. the red salsa was interesting, creamy. yogurt in there? i had a large orchada. lovely. very cinnamony. we ate inside because the weather, unfortunately, was sketchy. but i checked out the back patio and it's adorable. small but cozy with flowers and hanging lights overhead. i'd go back just for the patio! the inside, though, was fine. the tv was tuned into tbs which occasionally fought with the juke box and there were a few flies, but the decor was typical and comfortable. we started with shrimp empenadas. we each got one, but they were so big we probably could've shared just one. when i cut into the empanada some juice shot out, which was kind-of nasty, but ultimately the empanada was fine. it tasted as if the shrimp were cooked in the creamy red sauce. spicy. could've used some sort of sauce to cool it down, but i'm a big baby when it comes to spice. for dinner i had a fish taco, a picadillo taco and a pastor taco. the fish taco was fine. lightly seasoned. almost too lightly seasoned. fresh tasting. not too fishy. really generous and meaty. good, but nothing to write home about. the pastor taco, again, was fine. a little more flavor. but still didn't blow my mind. the picadillo was actually quite tasty. really finely ground and cooked with carrots. it was sweet and salty. my favorite of the three. husband had the shrimp empenadas, which he went bananas over. i tried a bite and wasn't terribly impressed, but husband adored them. he said he'd get them again. served with nicely salty beans and okay rice...soft, mild. so, ultimately, the food was fine but didn't blow my mind. the patio, however, did and i will go back just to kick it under the stars.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
