Exactly what I wanted, when I wanted it. This is the perfect place to get your low-cost Mexican food into the wee hours of the night. Open til 5am on the weekends

Best cheap and late night Mexican food around! Burritos are okay but the enchilada and other whole meals are great. Looking for a after bar grab- this is your place.

I come here on occasion when I want something other than Chipotle. Can't beat the prices and the burritos are huge. Also, they have really good cheese fries lol.

Not sure how this taste sober but when you're drunk it tastes pretty good. I just got the burrito with avocado, chicken, rice , sour cream. I like the wrap itself (thin and flaky). It's cheap, carry out, and opened late for the late night munchies.

I have no idea how this place has four stars. The staff is friendly despite the drunk mess of customers. That is the only good thing I can say. I got a vegetarian burrito which was supposed to have avocado slices. It had mainly onions and lettuce. No avocado. The burrito leaked a white substance when I took the first bite. I thought the guacamole would be at least edible. Not so much. If you want a burrito when other places aren't open... buy tortillas and stuffings from CVS and save yourself from the upset stomach.

5 words for you, and one of them is abbreviated... Chimichanga, Chimichanga, Chimichanga F'ing Brilliant!!! Nuff said.

Only a few tables to sit at so mostly a carry out place. Tacos are a bit expensive but steak tacos on corn tortillas with solamente onion & cilantro is the way to go

Best place to go at 2am! Get the avocado super taco it's probably the best thing you will ever taste ! Very affordable too!

A Mexican fast food joint, this place is authentic with speedy service. I was in the neighborhood looking for something quick to eat at around 10:30pm and everything (besides bars or sit down restaurants) was closed. I walked by this place and they were open. I figured I'd stop in and check them out. The good: They have all of your basic burritos, tamales, tacos, tortas, etc. A no frills place, my order was up in 5 minutes. I got two enchiladas with rice and beans. Their portions were average. Not too bad for averaging about $7-$8 per plate. Also, they have late hours - open til 2am most days of the week. The bad: The downside to this place is that it is so small, there is only space to seat around 10-12 people. There are exactly three tables and one small countertop. Also, they were blasting Family Guy from a small TV on their wall. Not everyone is into that. There were other people in the restaurant trying to have a conversation that were fighting to be heard over the TV. While the food was made quickly and tasted okay, I feel like they were stingy with the amount of sauce they put on the enchilada. Also, I did want something to drink, but their only choices were Jarritos and canned pop. I was hoping they'd have Horchata or Maltas available. Oh well. Not a bad place to stumble upon late in the evening. If you're looking for some quick, basic, inexpensive Mexican food after hours, this is your place. For me, there was nothing really stellar about it. I may go back again to give them another shot, but it didn't really stand out to me as anything great.

At 3:00am, there isn't much to choose from when it comes to food around the area. Fortunately, Janitzio Burrito is open till 5am on the weekends. It's not often that I'll say this but I recommend getting the burrito over the tacos. Even though I love tacos, the burritos are cooked well. They are thinner but longer than what you expect and the tortilla is crispy from being grilled. Unfortunately, I watched the cook microwave the meat before throwing it on the grill. Nuke food should really be kept at home or gas stations. Tacos are sold at $2.15 each which is a little more than most fast food Mexican joints but for the location and being open late, it's not bad but there are other places that are better.

Good tasting and fast Mexican food for a relatively cheap price. Not much else to day other than I'd recommend the chicken chimichanga and carne Asada burrito suiza.

Midnight on a Sunday and we needed food! Not really any other options but i got 2 chicken tacos and pat got a burrito which had a nice crisp to it due to the grill which was a nice change. Both were good. Staff was nice.

Janitzio is like that cool person at parties who takes care of people that get white girl wasted when they don't have to. I stumbled in here after a night of drinking one time and they held my hair for me. They changed me out of my pretty dress and didn't let me get puke on it. They put my jammies on and tucked me in for bed. They set a glass of water on my table and turned the lights off. They did everything that I needed and nothing more.

Best after bar Mexican food in lakeview. The woman who takes your order wears a knit hat regardless of temperature. She is quiet but nice. They have the best salsa around. i'd go with chicken quesadilla

Service is super fast! I always get steak tacos or tortas! It's the best and I like how it's family operated!

I am pretty confident that this unassuming Lakeview East burrito joint can go toe to toe with any of the pricier Mexican restaurants in the greater Chicago area. If the bout is based solely on the burrito, my money is on Janitzio. The large jumbo steak burrito is out of the world amazing. Have you every bought food with the intention of taking a couple of bites and saving some for later, only to inhale the entire thing in 3 minutes? That's always my experience when I order here. The ingredients are top quality and the flavors afforded by the pleasant mix of Mexican spices are exquisite - especially for a meal that'll run you $5 - $10. I was going to dock a star from the rating because it's not really a really swanky spot with modern decor or large televisions or the corkiness / neighborhood-centric appeal of the other surrounding restaurants. Key word: "Was". I can't in all honesty hold that against them. They don't promise you a 5 star dining experience. They do deliver an amazing and affordable authentic Mexican meal. The decor is aligned with the "$" price range, so it's not a place to dine-in with a date, but anybody will appreciate this feast after a night was drinking.

I had a great visit here. I tried the chicken tacos and avocado tacos. Both were great. I especially liked the avocado tacos. If I lived in the area, i'd be here frequently. Oh, as a bonus, the Orchata was great also. As a note for anyone planning on eating there, this is just a tiny place... 3 booths and a couple stools at a window counter.

If you're a fan of grabbing your burrito from a pool of grease, this place is up your alley. The steak burrito was soaked so much it was like eating a bowl of soup. Next time I will ask for a spoon. The rice and beans were super salty and just not edible. I won't make that mistake again. Some reviews mention snotty attitude and bad service. I encountered that and honestly, I didn't mind it. Actually I got a chuckle out of it. Caught me on a good day, I guess.

    (2)
  • Christine L.

Blandest rice I've ever eaten in my life. No amount of salsa mixed in made it taste better. They weren't shy on loading up on the tacos which I liked but even then they were still just okay. Not impressed at all.

This place isn't a looker from the outside, but do not be fooled, the food is ridiculously AMAZING, it should be a crime to have food this good and cheap. For $2 you can get one taco which comes with a lot of meat, a nice portion of cheese, lettuce and tasty tomatoes. Everything is cooked when you order, and right in front of you on the grill. All of the ingredients are freshly stored in covered bins for food safety. I'm sure I could come here any day of the week, time of night and always get the same experience. When I come here, I usually order the taco dinner ($5.95) and choose carne asada (steak) and I am never disappointed. The steak is pretty well diced up and never over-cooked. With the taco dinner, you get your choice of meat and tortilla. The tacos come with lettuce, fine diced tomatoes and some sort of fine grated white cheese. They come with sour cream as well. For your side you get rice and beans, with the beans topped with white cheese. I've never really ate refried beans until I visited Janitzio Burrito, but now I am starting to like them more and more, they are so good! The rice is excellent as well. Finally, the guacamole is OUT OF THIS WORLD. It's probably some of the best guac that I have ever had. It just has the perfect flavor. I'm not sure if it has a small blend of cheese in it or what, but it always hits the spot. Guac and chips is roughly $5 and some change, but you will not be disappointed! The guac is always freshly served in some sort of bowl made from their tortilla chips, and is a pretty good portion for the money, although the portion is probably good for only two people. A lot of the time the guac is freshly made right there. *****Other notes***** Credit cards ARE accepted, and there is no minimum purchase from my experience. There are no fountain drinks, only cans and bottles of coke products. The staff is super friendly, accommodating etc. The place is pretty small inside. There is a bench along the wall, which can probably seat 4 at most, and there are two booth style tables. Enjoy!

This place is lovely! I'd gone to Ceasar's across the street a month or so back and I was VERY annoyed at how much the food cost... they're lucky I didn't notice this little place. The tacos here are excellent! I'm newly vegetarian *5 years down bro* and whenever something tastes TOO good, I suspect it's been laced with meat... every bite I took I was checking for little pieces of ground beef. There wasn't any. All the tacos come with that delicious white shredded cheese, I'm not sure of the correct name for it, it's either Queso Fresco or Cojita at no additional charge *MOST places charge extra for it*. All of the tacos are $2.15. Our order took about 5-7 minutes to prepare and the tables were clean *no food residue or stickiness*. I enjoyed this place very much. I will definitely be eating here again...and often! I'm going to try every vegetarian item on the menu! Yippie!!!

I just left this establishment with a group of my friends and we just got assaulted by some crazy girl and her boyfriend. The girl threw a full coke can at my friend's head , spit in my other friend's face, yanked our hair, and was swinging at us. At one point her boyfriend was also swinging at my female friends. While all this was happening, the employees just stood there and did not even ask them to leave. We even begged them to call the cops and they told us we could call the cops ourselves. They do not care about the safety of their customers.

One tamales...two tamales. I am still on the search for good tamales. The quest continued with Janitzio. Small store with little customer service (I say hello when I walk in, you just look at me; wow). However, that was not why I was there; I am looking for tamales. I was a little disappointed that there was only one choice- chicken. Still I wanted to try. Under $3, I was ready for some hot tamales to take home and make my Sunday relaxing...until I saw the staff put my tamales in the microwave. Disappointing and a star was lost. What happened to boiling the tamales? When was this even made? Why is the tamales out of the saran wrap and in your bare hands? I wished for the best and took my nuked treat home. I got home and my two tamales were good. They had some spice to them, which made them yummy compared to others. However, my tamales were also on the dry side due to the lack of keeping them wrapped in saran wrap and in boiling/warm water until purchase. I would stop in for a tamale if I was in their hood, but never come out of my way for it. Any my search continues....

Janitzio has the freshest guacamole I've ever tasted. Generous amount of chips, double what's needed for the guacamole. Their tacos are good, but their tostadas are even better. I got my order to go, and it's rare to see food so well packed, even in individual wraps.

    (5)
  • Hayley H.

My flautas were super dry and the chicken was cubed, not shredded. But I must admit, it was 2AM. The rest, the beans and rice, were standard, nothing serious to write home about. Hit the spot, the drunk spot. The loverman got steak tacos and stated they were "decent late night food."

  • Jelena Z.

If you think this is a good burrito, you likely haven't tried the taquerias in Ukrainian Village or better yet, Pilsen. If you need something to collect and redistribute the alcohol in your system before hitting the hay, then yes, Janitzio will serve its purpose. Otherwise... beware of the steak - it''s bland and unappetizing to eye and stomach. You can do better! But like a frat boy in search of the elusive dimepiece before a bar's closing time, sometimes you can't find her.. and then there's Janitzio.

Great food, amazing price! I come here often for last minute dinners with my husband, and we just LOVE their food. And they are really hard working people, so make sure you TIP them so they will continue with their good work. Can't wait to stop by for dinner there this week again. =)

Ever since they started using a different cook (in training), the pita tacos suck and their meat has started tasting like highschool-grade White Castle meat (twice in the past week). They also freeze all of their green & red sauces, but will serve it to you when it's frozen.....who the hell would wanna put frozen hot sauce on their tacos??? Now I'd rather go to the 24-hour Subway across the street rather than have to eat stuff that tastes like high school meat.

No. Not even when I am hungry, cold, tired, tipsy, and in need of sustenance. No. I shake my fist at you, East Lakeview quick-serve restaurants, for closing at 3 pm every day. Stay open and feed me so I never make this mistake again. On more than one occasion, I have received bad attitude and terrible service (admittedly, from the younger workers; but, still. Stank nasty attitude, rolled eyes, muttered words. I should have never come back...but see above.). It's sort of overpriced for what you get. Yes, it's East Lakeview. It's also a taco. The food is serviceable but it's not all that great. It's never worth it the day after. TRUST me on this. You'll thank me for saving you. No. Never. Nyet. Nein. Nada. Non. No.

  • Lydia C.

We stop here all the time late at night. The staff is always really friendly and the food is always pretty good. When I have people with me they always rave over the place for days, so maybe I'm missing something or haven't ordered the right item yet. I've had the tacos, both chicken and beef, and the beef chimichanga. They're pretty good, and I'll continue to come here and try to find that perfect item on the menu because I trust my friends who swear by this place.

Great little spot for a quick, cheap dinner. Small burrito is perfect "chick size". I prefer places like this over more "fancy" Mexican restaurants . . . what is "fancy" Mexican food anyway?

    (3)
  • Robert S.

Not a bad little Mexican dive. The ground beef chimichanga has been free of gristle and tasty. It's an unpretentious place, but it's a tiny no-frills dive. Cheap, filling. During the summer, the window air conditioner barely keeps the place tolerably cool. I just wish soft drinks weren't sold by the can.

  • Andy A.

Cheap, fast, authentic, tastes awesome and is open past bar-close. Can you honestly ask for more?

Yummy town!! Carne asada burrito was soo yummy with tons of their red hot sauce!! Can't wait to have after a night out!

    (5)
  • Jeremy W.

Good for drunk food, dunno about for an actual meal. Very tasty, good salsas. Only criticism is that I wish they would cook their meat fresh, but it is cheap so what do you expect?

    (4)
  • Tony C.

Super solid. That's about all I have to say. Great tacos that are consistent. Love the rice and beans. Family owned and operated which is always a plus. I just wish it were a bit cleaner in the joint but oh well. I'll deal.

  • Arelys V.

Small place with great food. My friends and I love to stop by when we get our Mexican food craving. The staff is always friendly and the food is always delicious. Reasonable prices for great taste. Can't wait to go back!

  • Dave C.

I adore this place. The food is hands down delicious (& yes, I have been to Mexico & while Janitzio may not be exactly identical to what a small food stand there may serve, it's damn damn tasty), the atmosphere is lacking for a sit-down restaurant - though that's not at all what they're going for - & the people/service are/is top-notch. The prices are quite low - especially given the amount of food you receive - & the proprietors are quick to acknowledge & remember you. I fear for the day I move away from this neighborhood & lose my easy access to Janitzio.

    (5)
  • Tiffany T.

Cheap, delicious Mexican food, until 2am! What's better than that?

    (4)
  • Victoria V.

Yum and cheap. The beans..... oooh the beans. And the white cheese? Yes please. I love authentic mexican at an awesome price and this was definitely worth every penny. MMMMMMmmmmm! I shall be going back. Bean and cheese burrito with extra cheese and a side of beans and cheese.... YEAH. That's what i got. Don't be jealous of my boogie.

    (4)
  • Laura C.

Wow - this place really stuffs their tacos! I tried a couple carne asada tacos and the filling (cheese, sour cream, lettuce) was falling out of the tortilla. Quick, cheap, tasty, open late. What else is there to say?

    (4)
  • Anthony P.

They're open late and close to home, so I love them already just for that. I enjoyed the flautas I had most recently. The meal had good cheese and refried beans as well. Will be returning some night for sure.

  • Pat D.

This place is great anytime. I love the Chicken super taco, its like a taco but on a pita. Everything they make is fast and hits the spot.

    (5)
  • Huy H.

Food is pretty good and I come here often. I usually get the pork tacos and they are awesome and the price is good too ($2). The pork is tasty and they put in a lot more meat than the Taco House down the street. They have sodas in a can for $1 and Coke in a glass bottle for $2. The mini burritos are a good size and are about $4 and the regular sized burritos are $6. The food is a little greasy and it's not the cleanest place but that's exactly what I expect from cheap eats like this.

    (4)
  • Michael S.

I agree with the other reviewers: fast, friendly, delicious and inexpensive. And NOT the slightest bit greasy. I had a large skirt steak burrito. Huge portion; $5. A deal. I'll be back.

    (5)
  • John O.

The food is reasonably priced and the staff is friendly. It's a close walk, so therefore I go to the place, but the food is sufficiently tasty. They have some of the best salsa I have ever had in my life. I've pretty much been happy with everything I've ever gotten at this spot. The chimichanga and tortas are both excellent!

    (4)
  • Drew B.

This is worse than flash taco and that is saying something. The burrito was passable but the salsa tasted like chemicals. I feel that if you can't make good salsa then I can't think that you would make anything well. You get stars for being open late. That is all.

    (2)
  • Chenfei L.

Tacos: great tortillas, fresh ingredients. I inhale these things. These are some of the best tacos in Lakeview/Lincoln Park. Orchata: Creamy, sweet and refreshing. This place is friendly, cheap, and fast. Oh and it's open until 5AM, which gives me one more reason to stay up drinking until 4:30AM so I can wander three miles to find some good tacos.

    (4)
  • Camille R.

I was going to rate Janitzio a 3 star, but the fact that they are open until like 5am is so awesome that I upped it to a 4 star. My boyfriend and I stopped by here the other day after craving some Mexican food at 3am in the morning. I always wanted to try this place out since it was across from where I work and it always tempted me when I looked out the window! So anyway, I forgot whatever my boyfriend ordered except for the fact that everything was on it and it was a burrito. He said he loved it a lot! As for me, I ordered a chicken burrito with no beans and tomatoes. I wasn't all that impressed. I mean, it was yummy but the fact that it was leaking cream/sauce the whole time I was eating it was kind of unsettling. I had to put a paper towel on the table and it soaked the whole paper towel! After that, it didn't really sit well with my stomach. But my boyfriend never had any complaints so maybe it was just me. We will definitely stop by another time if we have those late night cravings though.

    (4)
  • Tiffany T.

As others have said, it would be knocked down a star or two if it wasn't open so late. On more than one occasion, they've served me later than their posted "open" hours so they have a special place in my heart. Their chicken sucks. Their beef is probably disgusting but it's tasty. Go with that. They make some killer tostadas.

    (4)
  • Monique M.

I love their tortas!! Great authenic mexican food restaurant. I drive from the south side of Chicago to get a torta. The customer service is not the greatest, but not the worst either. The prices are great!

    (4)
  • Aloysius T.

I went here for the first time tonight. Usually I go to T&B House/Palace or Buena Vista. And although those other places are four stars as well. I feel this one is the clear winner. I want to punch my Lakeview friend in the ovaries. Argh, passed by this place so many times. Granted, I was kinda buzzing while I ate it; that definitely is one of the finest mustards one can apply. But to be fair, when I go to those other establishments; I'm usually drunk off my gourd. I ordered to tacos, 4 bucks. Al Pastor (spicy pork) and carne asada. Both much larger and more filling that I anticipated. Both tasted...incredible, and the salsas were spot on. Not sure what else to say... Good food, good price, good service, good golly!

Sure it's a bit dingy, with tight spaces, icky flourescent lighting and grim-faced greeters. But the food makes up for it. Yummy flautas de pollo. Crispy with chicken (that's thankfully not dry) topped with gaucamole, sour cream, shredded lettuce, tomatoes and salsa. Piping hot, it's awesome with the cold condiments. And take a sip of horchata; it's not grainy! It's good that the place is just around the corner from my apartment. I always do a quick take out and gorge on the food back at my place. It's cheap, convenient and tastes pretty damn good. Sure, I've had better, but whenever I crave some good Mexican food, this is a good bet. And it's open LATE.

    (3)
  • Patricia P.

Following advice from Yelp, I decided to try this place to see what they got. It was disappointing, I ordered beef enchiladas, and I didn't liked it. Enchiladas were dry and the meat wasn't tasty. My boyfriend also ordered a vegetarian burrito, and he did not like it either. (there was no beans on it, so you can imagine). I must say, we were able to eat it, but most likely will not go back again.

Best bargain Mexican food in the area at 3pm or 3am. Love this place!

    (4)
  • Samantha L.

I dunno... the pork gorditas are amazing when drunk, and about average to good when sober. Four stars for being one of the better late night restaurants around my area.

    (4)
  • Amy J.

I love authentic mexican food from smaller take out places. Love it. I've been living in the wrong neighborhoods for too long - with only chain mexican restaurants... so these little spots are my new favorite for takeout. I got the cheese enchiladas, and they were REALLY good. And reasonable. $6.00 for a meal that included rice and beans. I thought everything was very good, reasonably priced, and fast. I waited five minutes tops. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other things. It was really good.

    (4)
  • Mike P.

Would not eat here sober but drunk? Not even a question, of course. The place if pretty much always open, it makes no sense. Definitely try it, you won't find better mexican food after 2 am, I promise.

    (4)
  • Robert P.

This is my go-to place for late night mexican. This is to be enjoyed drunk or sober. The best thing from this place is the gorditas, more specifically the pork gorditas. The green sauce is not too spicy and enjoyable. The horchata is hit or miss. I don't usually look at the prices for places like this but my total usually comes out to a bit more than expected but nothing too crazy. They also have a good selection of Jarritos drinks to choose from.

    (4)
  • Eric C.

I've lived next door for a while but never ventured in until one Monday for lunch when Crisp was closed, but I was pretty happy with the two taco dinner I gt, specially with how stuffed the tacos were and I dig the two salsas. I also got a large horchata which was good - BUT the large is freaking massive, I would have been better with just a medium or small :)

  • Molly L.

This is my new favorite place for a quick, easy and cheap dinner. The ground beef tacos are great, and they have really good beans and guacamole. I'd recommend Janitzio for anyone looking for a quick and delicious Mexican meal.

Authentic, delicious, and I could drink the salsa verde. Good prices too. Get your Mexican fix here if you are in the area.

We walked to this place during halftime of a Bears game for a quick take out lunch. It actually took forever to get the food, though that might be because this place had more of a late night feel to it. The avocado tacos were pretty good, though I'd prefer a corn tortilla to the flour ones they use. The torta was ok as well. This is pretty much your standard Mexican spot.

This is a pretty good value when you want something quick. I had been here a few times when I first moved in the area, but then I sort of avoided it. The food had been fine, but I'm not one to really crave a huge greasy burrito like most other people do (it's a bit much for me). They do have mini burritos though, which are a pretty good size. However, I went recently and thought I'd try the tacos for $1 a piece. They were great! They were overflowing with tons of meat (for a $1!) and surprisingly, had a very fresh taste. The 2 salsas they give you with it are very good too. I also saw that they had sopas on the menu, and I have a hard time finding those. Plus, the staff is very friendly, so I'll probably be sure to stop in again.

    (4)
  • Andrea B.

My go-to taco place! Good food, quick service. MUCH better than any of the other quick burrito places in the area. I've never been here during the drunk rush though.

Stop, I trust that Hiker Chicka had a small portion experience but not the usual. BUT, I swear this is the best place that is left to discover as far as Mexican food goes, and trust me it is what you want when you want it. The portions are huge, the price is right and the service is far above anything else. They take pride in what they do, they take the recipes from their grandmothers recipes and take great pride in explaining the menu. It is by far, and I've lived here for ten years.....the best BURRITO...the best Guacamole, don't be dismayed by prior reviews. You must and will go here. I don't find it greasy at all, I could mention other joints that grease it up far more that are far more frequented then should be. Go on, get your mexicana on at this joint, you will still have money left over for that last beer and leave full and satisfied. Don't pass it up, it would be simply crazy talk. Ryan S. has it right...it's cheap as hell and the food is unbelievable. I walk literary past five other places to get to this place for food, you should too.

Lets get one thing straight, when it comes to chorizo, I don't mess around. I don't even begin to play. If you can keep the flavor and have it not oozing in oil you're on to a GREAT start. This place is so freakin' inexpensive its ridiculous. The people behind the counter are the friendliest people ever. Your entire order is executed perfectly; nothing is ever forgotten or left out. Anyone in the neighborhood knows that the pickings aren't slim for mexican joints between fullerton/belmont/sheffield/lakeshore. This place is by far one of the best! They're open late and never have a wait. What's not to like?

Good ol' Janitizo's. Aside from the fact that it is open until 5AM (3AM most days) this place is a hidden gem. The only regret I have is I live too close to this joint. In the last couple weeks my friends and I have become frequent visitors of Janitizo's. We have often found ourselves sitting around the living room post 2AM thinking what are we going to eat? Easy! Janitizo's. Don't forget to get a side of avocado and a nice cold glass bottle of coke or if you fancy a jarritos (orange flavor). Try the skirt steak burrito and a side of their garlic salsa, yummy.

Small and dirty looking, but great food and service. Nice opening line, huh? :) I got the taco platter and everything was really fresh and tasty. Cheap too- only like $6 for 2 or 3 tacos and rice and beans. I just got it to go, but they have a few booths if you want to eat there. I can't really imagine anyone going here for a sit down meal sober, but drunk is another story. I'm glad I tried this place, even if it seemed a little sketchy at first.

I am not a fan of this place at all. The only time I will EVER eat here is if I am too drunk to taste the food. I used to get their cheese quesadillas, but I got tired of eating cardboard so I would just eat the rice and beans from my boyfriend's meal. That is until I found out they use chicken stock in their rice and beans, being a vegetarian that doesn't suite me. Also their veg tacos are disgusting, so I am not left with many options...except to not eat here.

No its not a 4 star restaurant, but Janitzio is just freakin awesome! I used to live around the corner and ate here almost 3 times a week. Their tacos are amazing, loaded with meat and cost only $1.65. They make everything fresh in front of you and will customize any order (want fresh onions and cilantro on your avocado taco, no problem). Did I just say AVOCADO TACO? Yes, yes I did and it is delicious. The guys who work their are great and put up with me barging in at 3am speaking Spanish and harassing their other customers. So if you were there late night once and some a--hole in a cowboy hat ruined your meal by being loud and obnoxious, too bad.

A very solid Mexican food place. Cheap, meaty burritos and great guacamole. Their meat is flavored right, not very greasy, and their beans are great too. I'm excited to move down closer soon so I can eat here more often!

I love this place. It is my after-drinking go to place, as well as my Sunday afternoon lunch/dinner place. Plus, the guys who work there are great. Very friendly, and they make everything just perfectly. Space is small, but it's not a problem. The only bad thing is the increasing number of drunk, douchebag, frat-boys who go there in the wee small hours. But you can't blame Janitzio for that. Super good. Super cheap. Super fast. Super awesome.

Great food and fast, friendly service at a great price! What more could you ask for. These guys know why they are working, know what the customer wants, and they deliver. I've only come in once to take a couple tacos to go at a busy dinner time. They were quick to acknowledge me (and everyone else that came in) and worked hard to get out a great product. Not the best atmosphere, but most people realize that and were taking their orders to go. I'll definitely be back.

I'm upgrading to 5 because I've been eating at Janitzio pretty frequently as of late. My #1 favorite taqueria a few blocks away is temporarily closed for remodeling, but I have been really happy with the food at Janitzio as a substitute. The burrito dinner is a steal for $6.25. Consistently delicious and very affordable. Good stuff!

OK, I'm a greasy Mexican food, eat at 2 am after drinking at the bars kinda guy, and I have been to many many places like this in Chicago. THIS PLACE HAS THE BEST BURRITO I'VE EVER EATEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, AND THAT INCLUDES RESTAURANTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY IN MEXICO. This place is super small but the food is unbelievable. If you get a half steak, half chorizo burrito, you will have died and gone to heaven, seriously. It's cheap as hell too, the burritos are like $5 and they're huge. I don't know what this other dude is talking about with the small portions, it's plenty of food. The nachos are great too.

The food was tasty, but this place is not for the carnivore. My entire entree had about 3 teaspoons of chicken, I kid you not. I got the 3 chicken Flautas with beans and rice ($6.25) to go. Flautas are small tortillas rolled and fried. It was kind of funny, he flash fried it in front of me and then stuck the thing in the freezer (huh?) to cool it down. But it still burnt a hole in the styreform container. The tiny flautas had about a teaspoon of chicken each and some other filler ingredients. If you are hungry, I recommed you get a burrito instead. Either way, if you are really craving Mexican, try Chipotle. I know, I know, even after what I wrote about Chipotle it's a better bet.

I'll admit I had low expectations and only walked in here because I was hungry and my original destination was closed. That said, I was very pleasantly surprised. I had the two taco dinner, with one chicken and one carnitas. Both were pretty tasty. Not only was the food good, the service friendly. The chicken was very possibly a mix of both white and dark meat, so if you only like white meat avoid that. It was well seasoned, as were the carnitas, and the tacos were pretty large and quite filling. I also liked that they stuck some random previously unadvertised tortilla chips on top--those were also very tasty. There was nothing special about the rice on the side. It you are looking for quick Mexican take out this is a really good option. It meets the big four criteria for a restaurant of this genre: Inexpensive, satisfying, friendly and quick. Although I was there in the early evening, I can see how this place would be superb late night. I will definitely return.

Good food, great price. I like everything from the chorizo and egg burrito to the tortas. This place might be on the small side and its decor might be cheesy but the food is good. I recommend pretty much all of their tacos with a refreshing Tamarindo flavored "Jarritos" soda. The service is good and I have to hand it to the Mexican restaurants in this area, they sure do put up with a lot of drunken frat boys who like to spew their vitriol and hate in the guise of "having a little fun" during their late night drunken escapades. Good thing I avoid all the late night frat boy hang-outs.

This place is surprisingly great. Very affordable, friendly employees, and you get your food very quickly. I usually get my food to-go because the place is small and pretty warm during the summer. Their food is really delicious though. My boyfriend and I love the burrito suizos and the super quesadillas. If you are craving mexican you should definitely give this place a shot.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
