I came here for the Yelp Summerfest event and it was amazing! The venue was great. The building is large and has 4 floors with an outdoor area. There's also a bar on the first floor with a dance floor. I don't know what other events they hold here but I'm sure they are all very fun and good. There are lots of rooms and the hallways are long and wide. The bathrooms could use a little touch up but most of the stalls work.

I have volunteered here for many years for both St. Paddy's Day and the summer music fest. Great bar and music.

Really great find in a strange location. The Yelp Summerfest was awesome! (still looking for Danielle - hi, it's Scott)

Love, love, love this place. Great service and servers. True Irishmen and women are always in attendance. Great live music on the weekends. The Irish Fest is great every year! There are beautiful banquet rooms to rent upstairs. The Fifth Province Bar is Beautiful. Overall this is a great place to sit down and have a pint and listen to traditional Irish Music.

This hidden gem on the northside is a terrific place to get back to your roots or get some culturing! The interior is quite spacious and the bar on the first floor is incredibly cozy with warm wooden decor and an inviting fireplace to sip one of their Irish draft selections next to. During the summer they host a great, intimate festival on the grounds open to the public. The calendar on the website features all of their current events from Irish Dancers' performances to dinners (some activities are members only).

This is a GREAT hidden treasure, Hidden on a residential street. I go EVERY YEAR for the Irish Fest. It's SUPERCOOL (air conditioned) when it's REAL hot & muggy outside. The Fifth Province Lounge is a treat too. Another large area for shopping & A few indoors, When the fest occurs. A nice stage theatre too.

Always a terrific time! I went on the Saturday of the recent Irish Festival for the North side of Chicago. I took my 9 month old Bridget. The biggest annoyance with the fest is having to find street parking but expected since the festival uses the main lot! So this time I was able to pull by the entrance and leave Bridget and the stroller with my best friend. Then I found parking. No problem. Then found them easily later. Festival was terrific - weather was great. Spent time outside then later went inside. Changed Bridget using nice changing table in women's restroom - great! A couple of doors had ramps - which they use for kegs but great for strollers too. I have been to IAHC for concerts in the auditorium which is seldom used! I have seen bands in the main rooms inside - always a great time. The bar is great - terrific people. I have had family parties in the private rooms - usually with catering from La Villa. Always a great time!

great place to go on friday or saturday nights, its within a short stumble from my house and i appreciate the fact that genuine irish people hang out here (not the be confused with the infinite number of 'chicago irish' who confuse drinking with culture). An interesting and unique place

Great venue for a party/reception. Our work had a party there and it was amazingly fun. Everyone got Irish, I mean "drunk," and (shut up, I'm Irish so I can say that...it's different when we call ourselves drunk...because we are, and we know it) my pal stole a bag of Cheetos and I ate a lot and pooped my pants the next day...and the day after that. I swear there's Olestra in there. I SWEAR.

I have been to the Irish American Heritage Center for a few events and I'm a fan. Where else can you have a couple pints, watch some theater, dance to some oldies, and enjoy a friendly, spirited conversation with wonderful people? All this is available under one roof at the IAHC.

This spot is a great spot for the Irish American Heritage Fest! The building is lovely and has some great rooms, bar area, decor, etc. The bathrooms are a bit outdated (though, considering the age of the building, they're in pretty good shape). Friendly staff and a great outdoor area make this a good spot! I hear they do private events as well and have a local watering hole open regularly. Worth a visit!

This place is awesome!! The staff are great to work with and are eager to please. I have planned a few weddings there in the short time that they have opened as a venue and they truly strive for perfection. As everyone knows - s%#& happens sometimes and especially things that are not in our control (like when volunteer workman forget to leave the keys to a crane.) I am sure they compensated the bride for that. They really do aim to please and are very accommodating. Yes the elevator does pose a small wait to get up there - but it is well worth it. The ballroom is awesome and large enough for up to 300 and can definitely be a wow factor for any event. This event space is in the city - right off the expressway and has two large FREE parking lots! The building is a functioning center with many things going on but is totally transformable for any kind of event. I love this space!!

So my previous experiences with Irish-Fest were limited to either St. Patrick's Day at any random bar in the Chicago area, or a certain festival on the south side over Memorial Day weekend, where it was nothing more than a bunch of drunken yahoo's acting like a bunch of drunken yahoos. When my girlfriend insisted that this place was different, and was a truly great Irish Fest, I was skeptical. Fortunately I was proven wrong. This place is a real find, and it makes me happy to know I can celebrate my Irish heritage without a bunch of drunks acting like overgrown children. This place is located right off the Kennedy Expressway and Lawrence Avenue, in the Mayfair neighborhood. It used to be a community college of some sort back in the day, now it's a full-blown dedication to Irish culture and heritage, and a great one at that. The music was awesome (we saw The Tossers on Friday and Red Rebel County on Saturday) and the sound was great. There was a wide range of acts throughout the grounds, and there were even some dancing troupes, which I really enjoyed. Food was OK. If you've been to Ireland, you know that the phrase "Irish Cuisine" is an oxymoron. Corned beef is also non-existent on the island, at least the few times I've been. They did serve corned beef sandwiches, bangers, and the always-Irish pizza rolls. Of course they had Guinness on tap along with some other Irish beers (Smithwicks, Harp, etc) and the usual American swill. Overall I'd give this place 4 stars. The Irish Fest was terrific and made me realize how awesome many Chicago Irish people are. Prices were definitely steep... $15 to walk in Saturday, $20 on Sunday, and $6-7 for a 12 ounce beer, but parking was free and the music was outstanding. I'm definitely coming back next year.

My husband and I could not be happier with our choice to have our wedding at the Irish American Heritage Center. Natalie was our event coordinator throughout our planning with the IAHC. She made the whole planning process easy-going and hassle free for us. Natalie let us come in multiple times to see the space before we even booked. She would let us know when there was a wedding that day so we could come in and see the layouts and how it would look all decorated. She was very flexible with everything and was very reassuring every time I had questions or concerns. For a Chicago venue, the IAHC is priced very reasonably. They require you to use their bar packages but you can choose all other vendors/caterers of your choice. I had my ceremony and cocktail hour in the Fifth Province Room and my reception in the Erin Room. The space was just perfect for my wedding and all of my guests were awed by the uniqueness of the venue. There was a convenient bridal room that I took full advantage of when I needed to get my dress bustled or just to take a breather away from the crowd. Overall, I was a very happy bride and wouldn't change a thing about my wedding at the IAHC!

Irish American Heritage Fest: Review based solely on the prices... Paid $15 just to walk in? Then each beer was $6-$7? Seriously ridiculous shit/ I was wondering why nobody was really there..good bands but that's just too much dough unless you have The Black Keys onstage and topless bartenders!! Get dat did

IRISH FEST 2014 Let's see I walked in and immediately had lucky charms put the arm on me for $40 admission for my wife and I. That $40 admission gave me the ability to sweat my balls off and see some mentally challenged adults perform "Grease" and a woman doing a Q&A about Irish dogs. The extra $3 for the kids are allowed my child to play with a human dressed up as a dog and was corporately sponsered. Aside from the grounds and facility being very beautiful and clean Irish Fest 2014 was not magially delicious. There was nothing to do but buy merchandise, beer or food. I remember in years past irish Fest was always a good time, well Jesus Mary and Joseph what happened it was horrible.

I love living in a city with a long history of immigrants and the neighbourhoods they built over the last 100+ years. This place was packed all age groups plenty of activities for the kids, great irish music, bagpipes, live entertainment in the theatre. Of course the bar was packed 10 deep! Unfortunately the food was terrible and in my humble opinion not representative of true Irish culture. We ended up going some place else to eat.

Free parking in the former schoolyard lot and lots of space for activities. Their big events are exciting for the whole family. I saw Gerry Adams there once! Music in the 5th Province Bar on some weekend nights. We order the Guiness and curry fries. Log on to their website and sign up to get the schedule of plays, musicians and classes. Even genealogy help.

It's The Irish American Heritage Center..It's pretty self explanatory so don't go there looking for Corona and Chicken Wings. It's name alone may lead one to someone to jokingly ask how many bars were in the building...Not jokingly, the answer would be three. I have been here a few times...Sometimes for music once for a dart tournament...Good beer, good times all around.

Went here during the iBAM fest and it was great. An interesting James Joyce exhibit. The regular history exhibit was also very detailed. I felt the tickets for the food was a bit steep. I look foreward to going next year.

Came here for Yelp Summerfest and liked the building/grounds a lot. This building is big, but it's layout is great for a summer shindig with warm wood tones, big bar, and large lawn space. One suggestion: Perhaps add more seating outside so attendees can enjoy the great Chicago summer weather!

I'm writing this review based on having my wedding there. This place is still ok for fests, etc. This review is mainly for brides out there looking to have their weddings here. While the Erin room is gorgeous for a wedding reception, the way the place is run is less than par. We booked the IAHC for our wedding 2 years prior to our wedding date. In that time the event staff that we were working with turned over three times! On the third time we met with Shelby. What was frustrating was that everything that we agreed to with the two previous event staff was MIA and we had to go over everything for a third time. Also, some of the things that were pre-negotiated were null and void even with a signed contract - such BS! Also, Shelby asked who our caterer is. We told her and she said "I'm not famililar with that one." It annoyed the heck out of me because I said that we got that vendor from your preferred list. Don't you think you'd get to learn who the vendors are on your preferred list instead of looking at the customer like we have eight heads??? Within three weeks prior to our wedding, I contacted Shelby for a face to face meeting to go over everything. During that meeting I met Natalie. Now this is person #4 that we have met during this process. It was confusing working with these two because I was told that Natalie would be the person who I work with for my wedding. Any questions I have can go to her. However, Shelby often responded to my questions. I wanted to make sure that whatever answers Shelby was giving to me was shared with Natalie so that nothing fell through the cracks. The day of the wedding, my "day of" person checked out the space about 90 min prior to our ceremony. Our ceremony was held in the Fifth Province across from the bar side. The riser, which is in green carpeting, was filthy. My day of person asked to have it vacuumed. Then she went up stairs and saw how filthy the floor was in the Erin room where our reception was to be held. She had to request that both the riser and the floor be swept and cleaned. If she hadn't seen that or said anything, it would have been a filthy mess. The brides room - ick! It's bascially a bathroom with two stalls and a sink. The sink had dead bugs all over it and a towel hanging with some questionable white gunk on it. Really? This is how you present this to brides the day of? So gross! Brides, this is a huge day in your life. If you have a wedding coordinator, then you might do ok having your wedding here. Otherwise, if you are on your own like I was, then consider going somewhere else to have your wedding. You will get very limited help from the event staff here. They can't even make sure the rooms you rented are clean. Just awful! They did meet our request to open the bar an hour earlier than normal and set-up a podium for our ceremony. If they are open about things they do and what you need to do as bride upfront, it might lesson your expectations of the term "event staff".

With the masses of wannabe Irish bars in the city, it's refreshing to find this hidden gem that will give true Irish culture to all who enter. I walked in and fell in love with this place, the atmosphere, the live music, the food, the beer, I can't wait til I go back. Maybe one day I'll venture to celebrate St. Patrick's here.

Love this place. How could you not. After all it is an entire building devoted to all things Irish. We typically start our St. Patrick's day here. They offer Irish dancers and raffle prizes (don't laugh, Hubby won $400 one year) and plenty of beer (not green, thank God!). And they offer Irish food. But this place is great year round. They have classes all year long. Check their schedule and you are bound to find a class that interests you. But best of all, they have a PUB! Yep, a great Irish pub located inside the building. It's a comfortable space with nice people in front of the bar and behind. Plus low tables and comfy chairs around the room for chilling with your friends. And they offer live music on certain days. You can check their schedule and make sure that someone is playing when you plan to attend.

I come here at least twice a year... 1. St. Patty's Day party... It's full of families, drunks, and drunk families. You can pretty much do anything and NOT get kicked out (except fight, that'll get ya kicked out for sure). Can you fall over a table and spill everyone else's beer at said table and not get kicked out? Yes, you can do that as my brother learned first hand. 2. The huge Irish Fest in July. This is fantastic! Irish boys, Irish music, Irish pours on the booze... Yeah, you'll find that all here. p.s., do yourself a favor, come here when the Mickey Finn's play, they are AWESOME!

My sisters, son and I went to the fest, and had a great time.Got there aaround 5.00 after the rain(good timing),and got a table just outside the main tent. Saw the Larkin Moran Bros. and they were amazing. And of course the Tossers closed the evening and were even better than last year...at least Tony Duggins didn't forget the lyrics to some of the songs this year. The drinks were reasonable at 5 tickets a drink, plus we brought flasks to add a little nip to the weak drinks. Also,I have to mention the Pipe and Drums of the Emerald Society who sounded great. All in all just a great evening.

I held a gathering for the friends of my parents in the McGinty room following the burial of my father. Planning this event was my first experience with the IAHC as I live out of state. Following the first couple misfires with attempting to establish phone contact, we communicated via e-mail and things went beautifully! My primary point of contact was Natalie. She was delightful to work with: efficient, friendly, attentive to details and very accommodating with the last-minute changes I dropped on her. Thank you, Natalie!! The preferred vendor list on the website guided me to all I needed to pull the food, flowers and aesthetic touches together. We opted for a cash bar and our assigned bartender also did a great job. Nobody was left thirsty ;-) Planning a memorial gathering is not an [inherently] pleasant, festive event. I am glad my mother chose the Irish Heritage Center as the venue. It proved to be the ideal gathering place. After our event in the McGinty room was complete, some of the guests headed down to the Fifth Provence for a 'parting glass'. After all, we were celebrating an Irishman. "Goodnight and joy be with you all"

Its an old school turned Irish center. I went two years in a row to the Bagpipe fundraiser. Both times it went great. A nice family event with Guinness, everyone's happy! It does feel like a school but that's why its great for family events.

I attended the Irish American Heritage Festival here and it was one of the best times I'd had in ages. The building itself is old school...no...literally...it looks like a school. Only, ya know, with a bar. As you do. Everyone was friendly, the beer was plentiful (many thanks to our kindly bartenders that weekend...they earned their keep), the bathrooms well stocked, and the stands full of good eats and interesting treats. Can't wait to see if this place keeps it up for the Yelp Summerfest. Fingers crossed.

What's better than drinking Guiness at a bar? Drinking it at an authentic Irish bar. The Irish American Heritage Center (IAHC) has a bar!!! I've never been to Ireland. But I imagine that a bar in Ireland would be just like this. I believe the folks in charge of IAHC went out of their way to make it as authentic as possible. They did a good job stacking the bar with a variety of alcoholic beverages. You'll also find a pretty cute gift shop. Anything green and Irish, you'll find here. It's been a long time I've had this much fun. If you're looking for something to do over the weekend, then definitely consider IAHC. It's not a night club - but it's still a ton of fun for those of you who like to find good company, get a good groove, and enjoy good drinks.

Even though we had a bit of trouble navigating around here due to the expressway, it was worth it. Saw a play here last night - "Dancing at Lughnasa"., performed by the Seanachai Theater Company (reviewed separately). As an aside, this is a great play about 5 Irishwomen set in the fictional town of Ballybeg in 1936, and definitely worth seeing if you're into Irish history or just want to experience some really fine live theater. The building itself is cool, old, big, and full of history. Tons of stuff going on and plenty to do and see. A truly unique venue to see a play, take a class, or attend an event. Alas, the bar was closed on my visit, but I'll be sure and check it out on my next visit.

Great place to go for St. Patrick's day celebration. Does get busy and makes it hard to maneuver especially if you have children with you. There was great music and dancers and the staff was courteous, considering how bus they were. Would definitely go back, but maybe leave the kiddos at home next time.

These facilities are great for any event. The rooms have high ceilings, wood accents, window treatments, facilities have easy equipment rental, and the rates cannot be beat whatsoever. plenty of parking onsite, clean rooms, and the staff is very friendly and accomodating. many rooms are available for different size parties, with great bar packages. I will only be using them for my future events.

Wait, where did this place come from? Packed into a nondescript residential area in a forgotten corner of northwest Chicago is this grand structure dedicated to all things green and four-leafed. And inside, beyond the museum and art gallery and library and gift shop and rental space, is a wonderful little Irish pub. Supposedly there are three... my little group was at the one to the left of the main entrance. We were there to see the Dooley Brothers play their Eire ballads and folksy oldies and maybe have a Guinness or two, and hey that's what we did! And because this place is awesome, throughout the night we mingled with people dressed up in medieval garb coming out of a Renaissance Fair and had strange conversations filled with expressions I didn't know with a legitimate old man from Ireland. I think I found my bar of choice the next time I'm in... uh... Irving Park? Albany Park? Forest Glen? Where exactly?

I haven't been here in years, and remembered thinking that this place was a boatload of fun the first time I was there for a Celtic celebration of some kind. The old school building has been converted to multi-use and includes a pretty amazing Irish pub on the first floor which every time I have visited has a spirited band playing Irish patriotic songs and some American rock and roll classics. This place is family friendly so if you want a place where you can bring the kids, have a beer, and listen to some Irish music this is the place. We saw people with kids everywhere. The children were enjoying the scene and while people were drinking and having a great time, the kids were too. My friend said it reminded him of an American transplant of the village pub idea in Ireland. Everyone is welcome, and you can have fun, but also be careful about dropping the F-bomb since there are some 4 year old kids dancing in front. The space is used for rental (weddings, parties, other Ethnic group celebrations) so we saw ballroom dancing in the ballroom, some Bulgarian folk dancing group in another room, and an African-American celebration in another. It was cool to see the "Irish" offering space to other people and groups. Very cool. While the beers on tap were typical Irish beers and cider, there were a lot of people drinking Miller and Miller light. So, no need to be fancy. Beers were $5 for imports. The band was lots of fun. They even tossed in a BoDeans song!

Love this place! It has a great little pub and the food was good. I had the fish and chips the fish were big and my husband had the corn beef was very tasty. They had a meeting going on and we got to hear some great music. This is a nice place to come back again too. The place in it self is a great reason to come back to as well.

What a gem this place is! I had the opportunity to host a Drivers Survival Seminar here just last night, and I was really blown away by how cool this place was. A converted school, the center is now home to a tons of community events, irish dance classes, a library, a really cool bar that had live music playing, and a slew of random people just hanging out and enjoying themselves. Hanging out here for the night made me feel like I was back in high school, except without all the really attractive dressed up chicks. The nature of place was extremely outgoing and fun and I really don't have another comparison for it in the City of Chicago. Maybe I'm just weird, but I would love to come back here again and just hang out for the night. Maybe read a book, check out one of the events or just have a drink. I would highly suggest checking out this place if you are looking for something different to do in the city. All around good times.

I enjoy the Irish bar they have inside here - the Fifth Province - they have live Irish music on Friday nights, and no cover (though I always have a Guinness or two...). People even get up to dance jigs and other traditional dances. A fun, relaxed neighborhood place to drink a beer by the fireplace with a friend or two, and listen to interesting music.

We just escaped from the St Patrick's Day Celebration here. We're elderly visiting Chicago for the weekend from out of town and thought that this would be a great place to listen to some traditional Irish music away from the bar scene. There wasn't any place to sit in the 5th Province. Elderly = bad legs for standing several hours. There were a few scattered tables filled with families whose children were playing games on phones! No was listening to the music. When the Shannon Rovers started playing, the room became so packed, it was scary unsafe. There tables selling alcohol tickets were blocking the hallways adding to the congestion. We did enjoy a meal by Harrington's in Room 109, which did have a stage but once again, just little kids running around on it. It would have been nicer for Tim O'Shea & Philip Crickard to play in a place where the audience was actually listening to them. The craft & baked items were nice & my husband did enjoy a few $7 (less than 10 ounce pour) of draft Guinness out of a plastic cup. But we wouldn't recommend the St Patrick's Day Celebration at the Irish American Heritage Center.

My wife and I made the wise choice of choosing the IAHC for our Wedding. Originally, it was booked for the "classroom" on the first floor. However, about 5 days before Sept. 5th (our wedding date), Leslie called to inform us that no one had booked the East Hall (which is connected to their pub). Since no one had booked it, they offered to upgrade us for free. Of course, we obliged. Having never seen the East Hall prior to setting up for the wedding, we were in awe. The hall is connected to their pub, which is a gorgeous wooden bar with a fireplace and nice big windows. The hall itself was lined with the same huge windows, a stage in the center and a nice wooden floor and trim. Having been okay with the "classroom", the East Hall was a dream come true. Sheila a Leslie were friendly and genuinely cared about my wife, myself and our guests. They were extremely friendly and helpful. Sheila and the other bartender (I regretfully cannot remember her name) went the extra mile to help our caterers serve champagne and drinks. The security guard even helped us put together the arch. All in all, the IAHC went above and beyond our expectations. Without the IAHC and the wonderful people who help, our day would not have been nearly as special and memorable. Thank you again IAHC and staff. I cannot recommend you enough for events!!!

This was quite the interesting place. It appears to be an old school converted into a recreational/community center including a bar! Completely unexpected, but pleasantly welcomed. I was here for the Yelp Summerfest and had a good time. There was plenty of room to move around. I didn't venture up to the other floors, but I was definitely intrigued enough to want to check it out again on another occassion. I believe they rent their space for private parties... another thing I'll be checking out. The staff was very nice... bonus!

Christmas Bazarr and Santa!!! :) I have to say, that this is one of my favorite places to go. The Christmas Bazarr was great, HOWEVER the Santa was skinny and did not make an attempt to be friendly. The kids seemed reluctant to go near him, and he didn't help things by being silent. I would not go back to see this Santa, but do recommend this place for all other events

Are you 1/16 Irish? You can research your ancestors here at the Heritage center to reconfirm the best part of your lineage. Or maybe you want to learn Gaelic. This is your place. I have been going here years. I have attended the following events: -COUNTLESS St. Patrick's Day's -Dozens of christenings and baby/bridal showers -Watching my many cousin/neices step dance They have several private rooms. And the bar, The Fifth Province is the best Guinness pour outside Ireland.

Even though I am not even close to being Irish I have had many a fun nights here. Wither its for the Irish American Heritage Festival or for the Yelp Summer Fest its such a great space to have a large event. You have to give props to a place that has a bar on almost every floor. Speaking of their bars they have a good selection of Irish beers and cider's as well as your typical run of the mill American beer. The bar tenders are always nice and I always have had good food here served at the various events I have attended. I am sure I'll be visiting again.

My daughter takes Irish Stepdancing here through Trinity Irish Dance. It's a lovely building and you can research your Irish heritage here, and there is a small Irish restaurant pub that looks promising. Office staff really helpful and tours are offered too! WOuld be an awesome venue for a party or wedding.

I love this place. It's absolutely stunning. The events are wonderful, loud and exciting. Although it can be fun, living a block away from the IAHC can be....noisy, to say the least. Especially St. Patrick's Day weekend. Overall, their food is delicious, their auditorium and library are amazing! This is a MUST go even if you aren't Irish, cause I'm not!

Bar/Fifth Province area now open Wednesday through Sunday. "New" menu (additions). If you want to get some great food, a pint, and have a random conversation with strangers, this is the spot. Also tons of activities all year 'round, every day of the week. You don't have to be Irish to enjoy yourself here.

This place is gorgeous! went here first time for a Yelp event a couple years ago, been to a few events since then, it's not only huge but it's a very well kept building, seems as if it were once a school maybe? either way my friends and I always joke about throwing a Lolapoluza type 3 day fest here some day, until then if anyone wants to invite me to the next Party, invite away....
