the red headed step child of Lockdown and Fatso's (Phil's) Last Stand - located in the former Hot Doug's location. The burgers are super fat and greasy and the fries i feel like i gained 20 pounds after eating. The great selection of uncommon soda bottles. Only thing I wished it had was a different menu from Fatso since it's somewhat a car ride away or just name it Fatso #2 which doesn't sound very good. Regardless, Support this place as it's a neighborhood joint! Great greasy and fatty food that'll give you a heart attack and you'll thank me. Also i wish hours on weekend were extended - only downfall.

If you're looking for a great, reasonably priced burger and top notch Chicago-style char dog, Frank Meats Patty is your place! I really love Fatso's, so I was very much looking forward to my meal here. We arrived around 7:30 on a Tuesday to an empty restaurant which I was a bit bummed to see; that being said, I know this location is just a bit off the beaten path, so I hope their business picks up soon, because I'm a huge fan (or maybe they just receive more traffic earlier in the day/on the weekends). I ordered a single Fatso with cheese as well as a char dog--my boyfriend went with the Super Ooey Gooey. We were both so satisfied with our meals; the burgers were cooked perfectly and had the right balance of toppings. The burgers at Fatso's Last Stand are consistently juicy, full of flavor, and require lots of cleanup post meal, and Frank Meats Patty is no different (YUM!). The char dog was also delish; can't go wrong with a Chicago style dog! The prices here are definitely reasonable; we left feeling full but not stuffed; all in we spent about $22 for 1 single Fatso with cheese, 1 super ooey gooey, 1 char dog, and 2 Filbert's sodas (they have a lot of unique flavors like black cherry, fruit punch, grape, etc.).

When a place that you used to frequent (i.e. hot doug's) is now empty and open 7 days a week, it makes you wonder. Can it live up to the previous owner re-imagined to offer hamburgers and hotdogs. They have a simple menu, burgers, hotdogs, fries, and deep fried pickles. The hotdog tasted like the grocery store bought variation. The burger was definitely frozen. It was cooked, but well, it left a lot to the imagination and not in the best sense. Oh yeah, cash is king here. I can see a million wrongs and only one right thing happening here. The staff is friendly. Walking out after eating here, and still feeling hungry from the lack there of, the one thing came to mind. How long will this place continue to thrive financially because with their limited lackluster offerings, I can't imagine it staying open much longer. Stay away, you and I can make a better burger and hotdog at the in-law's next gathering. In response to David J: I can get better quality elsewhere. The hotdog did not fill the bun. I was not expecting a superdawg type hotdog, but it's something I certainly could have made at home with grocery store bought items. The burger tasted like a frozen patty. Nothing stood out from my experience that I could not have been able to re-create at home. I never intended to come off so negatively, I apologize. Moving forward, I did not find the food here to suit my family or my cravings. I'm sure you use a quality product but the delivery of end product simply wasn't there for me to want to provide future business.

Ca$h money only! Service is great here, the main guy working is very nice and helpful to all his customers. Coke Freestyle machine makes drinking non-alcoholic beverages. If you don't drink pop, don't let the name turn you off. They have a ton of fizzy and flavored waters to pick from, as well. I had the Mac & Cheese with Salami and I think adding the salami is what really made it delicious. Without the meat bits, I fear it wouldn't have been overly special. The portion for $8.50 is huge! It made three meals for me and I felt like a beast ordering it. Viable option when I'm craving some beastly mac & cheese or a char dog!

Don't think about it...JUST GET YOUR GRUB ON HERE! Absolutely superb customer service, food and plenty of parking. CASH only but don't fret, there's an ATM onsite. The owner of this place, Bob is a super cool, friendly, funny man who goes out of his way to make you feel as if you are family and grant any of your foodie desires. He will strike up a good conversation if you are looking for one. The shrimp is a must do! Big n' juicy shrimp encased in panko breadcrumbs accompanied by their fabulous homemade cocktail sauce. Order them plain or on their uniquely tasty po' boy. Do their ooey gooey yummy Mac n' cheese. Get it with diced salami or hot dog. DO EVERYTHING HERE! Happy Frank Meats Patty made it out this way. Anticipated their opening as soon as I found out it was the sister restaurant of Phil's Last Stand AKA Fatso's. You do it and you do it well! Keep it up. Thank you for keeping a foodie like me happy!

Rosa J. works hard, but she definitely eats harder. It was a minus-Fahrenheit-weather-kind-of-the-day, but it wouldn't stop Rosa J.'s request on searching for great burgers. I'm not well-acquainted with the old tenant at the exactly the same location (Hot Doug's), so I came here with no preconception and just simply hoped for a good burger coming out from this corner joint. I was greeted by a nice young man and took my order. I had the Double Fatso with cheese burger and fried pickles. I've heard that this place is a sister restaurant with the Fatso's Last Stand on Chicago Ave. in the West Town neighborhood. Is there any confirmation on this piece of information? By the way, there's a yelp check-in offer: one (1) free fountain drink, a $1.89 value. Thus, take an advantage if you're a check-in freak like myself (Yes, just recently earned the "Yelp Maximus" badge...thank you very much, my friend). The burger was delicious. My sensory system was able to detect the nice, grilled smell coming straight from the burger itself (I LOVE that smell). The gooey cheese "mingled" harmoniously with the grilled onions and other toppings. I typically ask my onions to be grilled, versus raw, because I think grilled onions somehow "neutralize" melted cheese, in my opinion. Not to mention that the juice coming from the grilled onions and cheese creates a good dipping sauce for fries, or in my case, fried pickles. On the other hand, I've not had fried pickles for a long time and almost forgot how "oily" they were. I needed the oil tonight though because I'm often relying on my beloved CTA trains and busses. I don't personally own any "penguin oil" in my body (don't expect to find such thing from a 95 lb. Asian girl), but oiliness from those yummy fried pickles would probably do the trick. I wish this place is open a little bit "later" at nights. It's kind of early to close at 2000 hour, so I selfishly deducted one (1) star! Speaking of CTA busses, there's no "northbound" CTA 52 (California/Kedzie) bus stop across from Frank Meats Patty. I believe the nearest one is on California/Belmont. Then you will be expecting to walk a short couple of blocks north. Nevertheless, there's a southbound bus stop at California/Roscoe, which is located on the same side as FMP, immediately crossing Roscoe.

So... How to review this place? Looking out the window while sitting at the counter top everything felt familiarish., but different. Layout is the same as when Hot Doug's occupied the space. There was a bittersweet excitement waiting for my food. No gourmet hot dogs. Just burgers, fries, char dogs, and fried shrimp... not that there is anything wrong with those choices. Obviously, I am not going to compare it to Lockdown (updated my review to better reflect the place as they do not still play Nickelback). Not quite Phil's (Or Fatso's now) Last Stand either. FMP is it's own entity, but does closely resemble Fatso's Last Stand. There is a bit of nostalgia coming here. I still remember Hot Doug's and I think this place will always make me think fondly of Doug Sohn first. Anyways, this is what I ordered... Duck burger: Good stuff. Whatever the onions were cooked in was a bit strong and provided a bit too much tang for the burger and overpowered the foie gras a bit. I'd probably get the Ooey Gooey or Fatso burger more often than the specialty, but still good. Duck fat fries: Maybe the oil wasn't up to hot enough temp or wasn't cooked long enough, but the fries were a little soggy. Normally I love this because the extra oil tends to cause more salt to stick, but I ordered Vern's cheddar on the side and I was having trouble penetrating (that's what she said) the cheddar with the fries. Overall, it's good food with friendly staff.

Its opening day for Frank Meats Patty (FMP) and I made it. On my way I had many questions along with excitement. How would it compare with Hot Dougs? ( unfairly so). Would there be a 3-hour wait to get in? (since it is opening day).Would the food match the hype? (Most rarely do). Lets dig in! As I was walking up to FMP there was no line to be seen. Hmm, surely inside it would be slammed. Nope! Just a couple tables taken. Hmm! So I placed my order: A Double Fatso Burger with bacon ( he suggested bacon over a fried egg), a Char dog and some fresh cut fries. That burger was INCREDIBLE ( Did you see that pic, thats a beautiful thing)! I was expecting a decent burger but nothing special, nothing that would rival Kumas, Lockdown (My fave) or Au Cheval. Guess I was wrong, they are in the discussion ( badass). So tasty, juicy, cheesy all the way down to the last bite. That last bite is important, pretty much any burger is good the first bite or two but near the end many end up blech! Not FMP! This is a badass burger to the end! Well done. Oh still not much of a crowd, maybe that neighborhood feel is real! The Char Dog was nothing special to me. A charred hot dog with the typical Chicago style toppings. Not that it was bad but nothing great. I tasted like they overdid the celery salt on the dog. Easy with that stuff fellas, as I thought it took away from the actual charred flavor of the dog. The fries were fresh cut with a healthy dosing of celery salt. But I liked them as it seemed to work better than the dog. Wowza still no crowd, in fact, fairly empty! Shocked! The layout is pretty much the same with some different colors and lots of Chicago memorabilia. Customer Service was quite good, my order was taken promptly with no hassle and my food came hot and fast. If I have a significant complaint its that its freezing by the window. I often like to sit by the window and gaze out and daydream of what my life could of been as opposed to what Im going to write in my review of a hot dog joint. But this was quite uncomfortable as I had to put my jacket on and eventually move away to a table...Take care of those windows guys! Overall this is a very different animal than Hot Doug's and should not be compared. The burger is Badass, the dog needs some work. But I would say the food lives up to the hype as does the service. You guys made me a fan! Maybe a few little quirks to work out but looks like they eventually will have a strong following. Ill be back to try that Buffalo Burger or Foi Grois! Keep doing what your doing! 4.2 stars!

I am very glad that Frank Meats Patty has taken over this space- their burger is the same as Fatso's Last Stand in Ukrainian Village..the place is pretty much the same- The burger was tasty, the french fries were fresh cut and a good amount for 2 bucks. I was mostly impressed with the friendly staff- the gal who took my order, asked for my name-but their was no shout out, she brought the food to my table, and asked if she could get me anything else..on the way out the guy in charge (possible owner) thanked me by name for stopping in. I noticed a Groupon today, so hopefully that will increase their business-I also like that they stay open till 8 each night and are open on Sundays. Next time- a char dog for me.

I have fond memories of the fun times I spent at the previous establishment. But times do change and I'm happy to say that I really like this new occupant. Frank Meats Patty is related to another place we visit--Fatso's Last Stand--FMP is newer, brighter and has more seating. We stopped here for a late lunch. All I had on my mind was a burger...a big juicy burger. FMP provided a good one in the Ooey Gooey. Now if what you are craving is a juicy, sloppy, several napkin swiping kind of burger, the Ooey Gooey is it. It's a Merkts cheese stuffed hamburger patty, griddled and topped with grilled onions. It's a huge burger and it's divine. Throw out your diets, come on a cheat day, run a 5k first because this is an awesome calorie splurge. I opted for a side of cheese fries and although the fries were good, the cheese sauce on the side looked really gross--it wasn't smooth or creamy, just this gloppy mess. but the fries were tasty and definitely my son's favorite as well. Another great thing about this place--the Coca Cola Freestyle Machine! Can't always get grape soda anywhere and my son loved getting grape sprite. The menu is mostly char dogs and burgers. But there's also fried shrimp, fried pickle chips and FLS's famous Mac N Cheese. Friendly service, clean digs. Cash only, although there is an ATM on site in case you forget your green.

Liked this place a lot. They have some of the best Chicago style char dogs that I have had. The hot dog had just the right taste and good char flavor that w/ all the trimmings & condiments, it was perfectly delicious. One bite and I knew that this was the place worth going to again. Can't say that about too many places. The service was good and the menu is reasonably priced. I liked their craft soda-pop selection. Definitely go here. Check it out.

Good food had the burger with cheese. Reminds me of Muskies. But it was good. Place is the old hot dougs!! But food is good no complaints. Fries were fresh cut and the cheese was very rich

The problem with Yelp is that individuals like Matt W. (see below - 2/18/15) are able to freely post and ruin reviews of amazing joints that will soon become Chicago staples. No offense, but you, Sir, have terrible taste. First off, Frank Meats Patty is not "ripping off" Hot Doug's in the slightest. They are paying homage to a retired Chicago institution by doing a few similar off-menu offerings on weekends. Since they took over the Doug's location, they are simply paying their respects to the former regime; deservedly so. Think of it as analogous to when baseball teams wear patches of retired numbers on their jerseys. Secondly, it isn't rude or cheesy to display a "NO KETCHUP" sign. We live in Chicago. It's a simple rule that goes back ages in this town. You don't like it, move away. Also, why on earth would anyone steam hot dogs when they can char them? It's inefficient to do both (given a smaller end fast food kitchen) and knocks their signature char dog popularized at Phil's/Fatso's. Not to mention how much better a char dog tastes over a bland steam dog... Again, this is Chicago. It appears Matt W. should move to the dirty cesspool of New York City... Frank Meats Patty is drunk, comfort food heaven, just like its' big brother Phil's in Ukrainian Village (still not calling it Fatso's... RIP Phil). Same menu, different neighborhood, larger, more family friendly establishment. Bob and his delightful staff rotate at both, so you are assured to be greeted with tons of smiles and efficient service, just like Hot Doug's used to do. It pained me to read some of the previous reviews. Also, Sylvana C., who gave one star simply because there is no chicken or salad... This is a greasy comfort food joint - why in the hell would they need to offer those? You should have done your due diligence and eaten elsewhere! Although good luck with that in this neighborhood... LONG LIVE FRANK MEATS PATTY!

This is the perfect example of a place where Yelpers need to take reviews with a grain of salt. Some dumb reviews and even dumber Yelpers. Geez. It's not Hot Doug's anymore people. It's the same people behind Fatso's Last Stand. Only link with Hot Doug's is the place. They took the lease. Fatso's has always been cash only. Not trying to copy Hot Doug's. It's better for business. And actually, word is they are thinking about taking credit cards. So deal with it. Hot dogs are great, don't let people steer you the wrong way. Yeah, they are known for burgers, but the hot dogs aren't bad in one way. Love them. I got the Super Ooey Gooey Burger. This was after the owner, Bob (who is awesome!), even suggested I just get the double. I still wanted to try it. It's very good, but I can see what he meant that the double is as good. Next time, I will get that. But I'm glad I got the Super Ooey Gooey. The fact that he was honest and not even trying to upsell means a lot to me. Fries were great, they take care of you when you eat there. Get one order for two people, you'll have plenty. This place is great for all the right reasons. Great service, great food, great vibe; what more can you ask for? Have fun, chat with Bob, and enjoy the food. I can't wait to come back and support them. They deserve it and I hope they stick around. Big big fan.

So it's Fatsos last stand except more expensive. The reason why I'm leaving a negative review is interesting. I like Fatsos Last Stand. always recommended it to everyone. Today my BF n I wanted to try a new restaurant. so we decided to go to old Hot dougs and support this...what we thought....new business. We go there and as we are ordering we realize they are the same owners at Fatsos. So it's the same food!! Except more expensive and nothing comes w fries. 1. We were upset bc we were sort mislead by the name thinking it was something different. 2. It actually tasted cheaper than usual, even though it cost so much more. 3. if you make it a new name and more expensive...how hard is it to make a different menu? Maybe add different things to it? We were so disappointed. Had it been called Fatsos I would have said "awesome there is a Fatsos near us now" But the whole experience just changed everything n put a bad taste in our mouths. (This coming from a foodie who never leaves 1 star reviews) my BF and I aren't big dwellers but for a good hour after we just talked about how we wished we hadn't gone at all

My GF and I had a hankering for hot dogs and were waxing nostalgia about Hot Doug's closing as we drove up California. Lo and behold we see Frank meets Patty and our hot dog craving got the best of us. Friends.. We were not disappointed. The interior is almost the same as Hot Doug's but with a cooler black and blue Chicago flag motif. It had the same amount of seats too. We met Bob the owner, who I also discovered is affiliated with Lockdown, another great burger joint. He was very welcoming and inviting as soon as we stepped in. We talked about his trademark Fatso burgers which are supposed to be a riff off of the famed Inn n' Out one. We ordered the dogs n fries to go and he was kind enough to give us a single cheeseburger since we talked about it, which was awesome of him. While it wasn't quite like an Inn n' Out burger, it was good nonetheless. I think they can still more tweaking to it in order to make it similar to that but if not, they can go their own way. The fries were fresh cut and delicious and the hot dog was above average by Chicagoan standards. Overall the food and service was superb. This is the kind of owner you want behind the counter taking care of people much like Doug. If he keeps up this kind of service and quality of food, this place could become a most welcome replacement!

If you've been to Fatso's Last Stand, you know the menu here: burgers, dogs, fries, and sodas, all cash, no credit card. The only difference is the secret menu is out in the open and the interior's much nicer and spacious than their Ukranian Village digs. A nice tip of the hat to the previous tenant is the inclusion of duck fat fries on Friday/Saturday and wild game burgers featured each month. If you're in Avondale and don't want to wait for a table at Parachute or you're not in the mood for fried chicken from HBFC, this is a good spot to smash out some grub.

After being the first customer in line and my live TV debut on WCIU's "You & Me This Morning" I finally made it back to try a Char Dog. Since I got a free meal my first visit, I technically couldn't leave a review. It was also an honor to get to turn on the "OPEN" sign officially opening day, at such a recognized storefront. The Foie Gras Duck Burger was killer opening morning. I love the fact that quality and loving care goes into every meal. I tend to avoid hot dogs, unless they're char dogs. A custom made dog, a great sharp cheddar smear on the perfectly steamed poppy seed bun, is tops on my check list. Chicago Style toppings are perfectly executed and I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a hot dog so much. Many menu items I still wish to explore and I need to get creative with more visits to the city. Bob and his crew go out of their way to make you feel welcome and you'll certainly leave satisfied... he'll remake if you aren't happy.

Horrible old fries that have been sitting around too long. I don't care if it's not the lunch rush, when I order fries I want fresh fries. The dog was very "meh." Don't bother, the food is not worth it. The food was just gross. I like fries and hot dogs. I was even craving a good Chicago dog. So sorry I came here. The decor is cute, for this they get a star, but I won't come back.

Awesomeness in my belly - now I thought there would be a long line but so glad I was able to get in and out! I watched from my office window checking on it every hour! Today was their grand opening and it was filled with my co workers. The guy was nice taking my order and very pleasant. Menu on the wall easy to follow. They even have a Belly account so make sure that you check in with your Belly app! Get points! Ah, just like Hot Dougs...CASH ONLY...I repeat...CASH ONLY!!! I ordered the single fatso burger with bacon and it was to die for. I'll definitely be back!!!! Oh find out if those magnet along the wall are able to be taken down and kept!

Fatso's is great and this is essentially the same food from soup to nuts. (I'm glad, because I live within walking distance of Fatso's and the drive to FMP is weekends-only.) The only noticeable difference with the Avondale location of FMP is that it's much more family friendly in the winter, i.e. there is space inside to have your family of four sit and enjoy the meal when it's freakin' cold outside. When it's warm, Fatso's outdoor picnic tables and kids area beats this, but when I needed to eat in with my wife and one-year-old, FMP fits the bill. As others say here, the "secret" menu is no longer secret, so if you want a Super Ooey Gooey stuffed burger, you only have to look at the signage to know the deal. Prices looked the same. The staff is very friendly and they are very appreciative of the strength of good customer service. Also--you still generally want to avoid the hot dogs here. In order of preference: Fatso's, Super Ooey Gooey, Ooey Gooey, the fries, the polish, the shrimp, the hot dogs. (You should really think of Fatso's/FMP as a burger/fries joint that serves hots and polish because we live in Chicago.) If you absolutely have to eat a dog because you are standing in the most recent Hot Doug's location and need to stroll down memory lane, have at it, but the dogs at Devil Dawgs, Flub-a-Dub-Chubs, Superdawg, etc. all crush this dog. Also, part deux: FMP is only open until 8 PM. This is a borderline travesty, but I'm guessing the neighbors over here have something to do with this. Fatso's lets me have my cravings and show up for lunch, dinner or late nights...beautiful. I don't think this will hurt business up here, but if you were thinking of strolling through here for a late-night crush after you leave the club and are driving home...think again.

I went here on a Wednesday afternoon around 12. it wasn't busy so I was able to just walk in and order. I met Bob who was taking the orders and I simply said order whatever you suggests. I got a single patty burger a char dog and fries. Being that I'm from California, the burger came close to an In n out burger. It was grilled and you can taste it. The house made sauce worked pretty well with the burger. Next time I will be getting the double cheese. The hot dog was you basic Chicago dog with everything on it. It was chard perfectly. Pretty good dog. The fries were crispy and wasn't soggy. Pretty good!!! The service was awesome and Bob in the front was friendly. I would come back to try other things on the menu.

This is the old Hot Dougs location but isn't nearly as crowded as it was when it was Hot Dougs. Still they have solid Chicago dogs here. The dogs are char grilled not steamed and the ends are split so when they cook the ends of the dogs open up and look like stars or tassels. They are pretty tasty but I missed the relish and a few more sports peppers. The pickle chips are good- they came out hot and crispy. The Fatso sauce is pretty lame. Not spicy or very flavorful. Just looks like pink mayo. I'd skip it next time.

Moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and FMP has quickly turned into a go-to for me - almost as much for the service as for the food. Yes, the char-dogs are stellar and the fries are flipping perfect, but the guy behind the counter is channeling his "Inner Doug" by being just immensely friendly and helpful. He even gave me a bowl of water for my dog while I waited for my order outside! Pro-tip: do NOT overlook the shrimp po boy.

Get the cheese sauce. Pretty awesome stuff. They're cash only just a heads up - and don't even try ordering ketchup on your dog. Wasn't a big fan of the fries hence the 4 star.

Love this place. I've only been a few times since the opening, but if you want a really dang good hot dog, burger, fries or (oh dear lord, yes) fried pickles - get on it. Fatso's Last Stand is amazing but this place is right down the street from me, so it's perfect! Also - stop comparing this place to Hot Doug's. I have a Hot Doug's tattoo (shut up) and even I know that. Another Yelper nailed it so I won't rant. Cash only, but they have an ATM, so that's a huge plus for anyone who is in a bind (and something that Hot Doug's never had). And again... fried pickles.

Thought the burgers were too small and greasy for what I paid for. Service was great.

  • George G.

Fries were very small. Made it overly messy to eat with cheese. Had to use one of their cheap, bendable forks with me fries! It was like the bottom of a potato chip bag where all the broken pieces have settled. Very disappointed The owner was also yelling at a girl that he felt wasn't doing her job properly. It made me very uncomfortable. Glad there was no line. Will not be returning.

Great classic Chicago dog. I personally like charred better than boiled anyway. Really clean place and fresh toppings. They have one of those awesome coke machines where you can make crazy drinks too. Check this place out!

Frank Meats Patty has some big shoes to fill in the former location of Hot Doug's but I'm trying to be fair in this review. The Menu Right away, I saw a credibility problem. The owner was in the news saying that they didn't want to be the "new" Hot Doug's, but wanted to establish themselves as their own new unique thing. But I see on the menu that they are stealing Hot Doug's ideas of Duck Fat Fries every Friday and Saturday, and a dish featuring Foie gras, both of which helped make Doug famous. I ordered 1 Fatso Burger with Cheese, and 1 Hot Dog. No drink, no fries. That alone rang up to be over $10. For a single cheese burger and hot dog? Sorry, but that was way too much. The Cheese Burger The burger didn't look like much but it tasted very good. However, it's not a gourmet burger and for the price I feel better off going down the street to Burger King and getting a double whopper with cheese. I might go back for another one day. The Hot Dog Right away I knew there was going to be a problem with the dogs. For starters, they have a rude sign explaining that Chicagoans find it insulting to put catchup on a hot dog. I see no point in displaying this sign as it only serves to insult those who like catchup on their hot dogs or make those of us who know it roll our eyes at the cheesy prop. Also, they only have Char-Dogs, no Steam-Dogs, and a sign explaining that they ONLY serve them charred, never steamed. I'm not sure why they are discriminating against those who prefer steamed dogs because Hot Doug's had both kinds and their steamed dogs tasted better. The Hot Dog looked excellent with everything I would expect a Chicago style hot dog to come with. Unfortunately, it didn't taste very good. The bun was soggy and the flavor/quality of the toppings weren't good. The hot dog meat itself was very good but everything on it wasn't. The Décor Maybe it will get better over time, but I don't like the Chicago Flag decor. Are they just catering to tourists? Or maybe cops? Most people I know in the City despise Chicago for all its corruption and crime. Chicago is a laughing stock in most areas outside of Cook County. I'm not sure I would want to flaunt it in my restaurant. Verdict I'll give in another try this summer and see if it got better. I wouldn't mind trying that Shrimp next.

Love this place! Affordable, fast, and delicious. I've tried numerous things on their menu including burgers, polish, hot dogs, fries, mac & cheese. All were delicious! Except for the mac & cheese- which was kind of average tasting. Regardless, I keep coming back and would highly recommend nearly everything on the menu. Good for a quick and greasy bite! Wish they'd stay open later- would be some awesome drunk food ;)

Update: I have returned to Frank Meats Patty because I love Chicago business and their food is equally great the second time around. I had the mac n cheese, which has a light dusting of crispy bread crumbs, sauce with a little kick, and the perfect shape of noodles. I also had pickle chips which were cooked perfectly, not overly breaded, and came with a yummy dipping sauce. The only reason I'm knocking off a star is because the bag that the pickle chips were in was literally dripping grease and it got all over everything. Maybe letting them sit before transferring them immediately from the fryer? Not sure but either way, still a great local joint. Will definitely return in the future.

I've been here twice now and I'm pretty unimpressed. The staff is really nice, food comes out quickly, and the place looks really nice inside. However, the burgers are nothing special, very small. I thought that was supposed to be their specialty. The hot dog was decent, they made it the Chicago way. I really disliked the polish. It was too chewy and the flavor just wasn't good. There are so many places in Chicago to get better food of this type. The one thing I love is the fries! And the cheese for the cheese fries is delicious. It's real cheddar. I'll try some other things on the menu before I write this place off completely, only because it's so close to home.

Excellent hot dogs and fries! The owner is also really very nice! Prices are very reasonable! We think its one of the best hot dog plces in Chicago!

Decent burger, a little on the greasy side but good. Small size of fries for the prices i think, most places i can share a $4 side of fries but this one was small. Pickle chips were good with the fatso sauce. I'll probably hit them up again but not in a big hurry to return.

Great Chicago eatery! The food is excellent and the service is on par with the previous tenants, Hot Doug's. This isn't a sausage emporium, but an excellent representation of classic Chicago street food, with a few twists. Go for the char dog or the double fatso with cheese or both. You won't be disappointed. Also, the fries rock so bring your appetite, you'll want to finish every last one. Well done guys. All the best!

Burger was ok.. shrimp was good but got such a little amount for the price.. the French fries were tiny tidbits very disappointing for the amount of money for two people.. staff was nice though

The staff is friendly and the decor of the restaurant is nice. I had the ooey gooey burger, it was well seasoned, but was a little small given the price ($7). Also the burger did not come with fries. The drink machine was a little complicated to use as well. Overall I thought the restaurant was good and I would go back if I were in the area.

I'm really delighted with the operation that took over the Hot Doug's space. It's sure not Hot Doug. The legacy of taking over that space cuts both ways. The former patrons of Hot Doug, no doubt, are still grieving their loss, and so they'll be inclined to view with some negativity whatever else is offered in that location. The hot dog/burger operation that has opened there would get far more respect at any other location. It is affected by the big-shoes-to-fill syndrome. I've had the double hamburger twice and it's the kind of burger you remember later with a smile. The meat could not be any fresher - it's like you're ten feet from the grinder. The presentation and taste are incredible, wrapped in white paper sleeves and exposing a view of thick genuine, handmade patties. I tried the fried shrimp today. They rank among the very best I've had in Chicago. You have to feel and taste the breading to believe it. The shrimp themselves were perfect. The sauces, hot and mild, were fresh, tasty, and had just the right amount of horseradish. The char dog is classic, iconic, in a word, perfect. They have a full line of Chicago-themed beverages, including Green River in glass bottles. I will try anything once, and so I did the banana pop. It was actually good. The table service and ambiance are friendly and efficient. The owner is the friendly sort of guy who tries hard to please every customer and to make a friend of each. Highest rating.

Two words for you. Fried Shrimp! Crispy and flavorful. I love the spicy cocktail sauce that is made in house. I had a bite of my friend's Fatso Burger and it was great. Fresh lettuce, tomato, Fatso Sauce and she chose raw onions to top the juicy patty. Fantastic! Fresh cut fried rounded out our meal. Salty and crispy. Just how I like my fries. Bonus: I brought my 2 year old daughter and she had a kid's Mac and Cheese which she enjoyed. While we were waiting for our food, she played with the magnets on the wall which were perfectly placed at her level.

Decided to try this place since it is on my way home from work and I was definitely not disappointed! The hubby and I both had the double burgers with cheddar and they were great! (Although they did forget to add the bacon I asked for) I am not a big fan cheese fries, but I am in love with the cheese they have here! Also tried the mac and cheese and it was amazing! Will keep coming back as long as they don't mess with what they have!!!

Double Fatso with cheese. Perfect burger. Two thin patties. Great bun ratio and great toppings. Excellent burger. Fried shrimp is some of the best in the city. The mac and cheese with bits of salami is out of this world. Love this place. Bob is always there and great to deal with.

Decided to check out this place on opening weekend. No wait! Although as we were leaving, the place started to fill up. Their menu consists of mostly burgers and dogs with a few specialty items. I ordered the shrimp po boy and my husband ordered their oooey gooey with fries. The shrimp po boy was super tasty. Definitely will be craving that again. My husband enjoyed the ooey gooey. Cheese fries were similar to that of Wiener Circle - which my hubby is a big fan of. Glad to have Frank Meats Patty in the neighborhood. Hope they'll add more yummy specialty items to their menu!

This place is great. I had the burger of the month (duck sausage burger) and it was amazing. The fries are have a nice crisp to them. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

Never been to hot dougs the line was always ridiculous. Ive already gone to the place a handful of times. And perfect every single time!! I highly recommend their burgers. Hot cheese right in the middle who can complai!

Had a delicious Double Fatso w/ cheese... Really good. The Shrimp Po boy was good according to one in my party. I am a fry fanatic so I was a little disappointed that the duck fat fries taste the same as the regular fries. The cut is different but the taste was the same. I dogged them nonetheless. A suggestion, offer a tray or larger serving baskets. I didn't like losing my fries. Overall, a good neighborhood spot.

Yo, they make their own freakin veggie dawg outta sweet potato, mushrooms and all sortsa stuff breaded and deep friend (bit of egg in there so it's not vegan FYI). Why they're not playing this up I do not know. Like whoa. Friendly, friendly service. Pickle freakin muthafucken chips like a boss.

The chardog is decent. Fried shrimp with spicy cocktail sauce is where its at, cheese sauce is tasty and thick, a little oily. Very friendly, I like it better than hot Doug's.

Truly fantastic food - from the burgers to the char dogs to the shrimp - everything is great. Why waste your time with mediocre fast food when you can come here instead?

I love this place. I've been eating at Fatsos last stand since it opened and can't say enough good things about the staff and the food, especially the burgers droooool. As soon as I heard about them opening franks I was very excited and after I tried the fio is he duck burger and bison burger I can honestly say it's without the best burgers in Chicago!!

    (5)
  • Scott B.

This place was disappointing. I ordered the shrimp po'boy which was just OK. The fries were the best part of the meal. All 3 of my friends ordered different burgers, all of which looked very small relative to the price paid. Also, one of my friends ordered the duck burger which had foie gras on it, which looked old. He agreed. Also, when we went, half of the items on their "coke freestyle" machine were out. Overall it was a bad experience for the price paid. Would have preferred going to portillo's. I would not go back and considering there are not any 'destinations' in the area, I can't imagine myself or most anyone who does not live or work in the area frequenting this place.

Hot Doug's No More. Long Live the King. Frank Meats Patty is Here !!! Son and I stopped in here Saturday afternoon to try the new restaurant. Long aficionados of the old haunt, we were more than curious and yet anxious. THIS is NOW our new go-to for QUALITY Fast Food !!! No block-long lines to enter like the old days- simply walked in with prompt service.. That alone makes it feel like a Secret, Hidden Treasure. Concerned that too many good reviews will lead to over-crowded two hour meals. Then again, we want the business to thrive, so here's my review. Hours are 7 days a week 1030 till 8 pm so more accessible than just lunch. Decor has been lightened and feels more open and clean. Music is eclectic ranging from Pop, 60s to even Alternative and Classical. Nice...Smooth. Part-Owner Bob warmly greeted us and helped guide us thru Menu encouraging us to experience new items. Pleased that the Duck-Fat Home-cut French Fries are offered Fridays and Saturdays. We both ordered the Super Ooey Gooey Beef Burgers stuffed with cheese, bacon and sport peppers, then cooked to Medium to Medium Rare. Ask if you want more thoroughly cooked to a well-done. Incredibly flavorful with grilled onions and a homemade tomato/mayo based sauce. To top-off the meal we ordered 1/2 lb fried shrimp. OMG Jumbo 20/25 Count Size of FRESH shrimp with Panko coating, then lightly cooked. Crunchy exterior with meaty, moist and delicate firm fleshy texture. Not buried in the doughnut-like tempura batter so many places employ. Then offered with a sweet but zesty cocktail sauce AND slightly more spiced one. What taste pleasures for so humble a venue. Next time looking forward to trying the Bison/Buffalo Burger and the Foie Gras Burger with Sweet/Sour Black Cherry Burgundy Sauce. Char Cheddar Polish also intrigues and the Shrimp Po'Boy looked tempting with the ShoeString Fries on the sandwich. Thanks for making our day. Looking Forward to sharing the joy with others.

I was scared that whatever replaced Hot Doug's would be a disaster, but Frank Meats Patty is awesome. They did a nice job of keeping the concept similar. Delicious food with great service. I had the Ooey Gooey burger, which was excellent. Similar to a Juicy Lucy with their own sauce and grilled onions. The wife had the double Fatso with cheese and loved it. I stole a bite and agreed that it was great. Similar to an In N' Out burger. Fries were also very good and complimented with a side of Vern's Cheddar. It was our first Vern's experience and it might trump all other cheddar's. We really had a great experience. Bob at the counter could not have been nicer to us and even had us try the shrimp, which was very tasty. There are a lot of places with similar menus that don't match up with this place. Hope you like it.

Very disappointed! Their burger was less than mediocre and fried pickles tasted like fish.

I feel like I am unfairly judging them based on the building they serve out of. I walked in and told myself "This is not Hot Doug's! This is not Hot Doug's! This is not Hot Dogs!" Oh they have duck fat fries. "This is not Hot Doug's" I ordered the cheese burger with grilled onions, duck fat fries, and Chicago style chardog . It reminded me of a burger king whopper...accept not as good. The cheese and grilled onions just seemed bland. I don't know maybe because of the bun. It was a sloppy burger and when I finished I had sauce all over my fingers. Normally that'd be a good thing but it was sucky sad sauce. All I could think about was how much I would have preferred a whopper. The duck fat fries were small and greasy nothing like HD's duck fat fries. (This is not Hot Doug's!) The 2 stars are for the Chicago style chardog that was classic and tasty as it was supposed to be. So between frank and patty I'll just go with frank the next time I'm there.

Stopped by on Friday at lunch time and there was no wait. The menu is straight forward and the guy taking orders was really friendly. I ordered a single fasto with cheese, a char dog and an order of duck fat fries. You have to know about the fries because they are not advertised.Burger was ok, hot dog had a nice snap, but the fries were awful. A big bag of limp fries swimming in grease. Fries are the first thing a customer goes for and these did not help the experience. If I am in the areas again probably would get a burger and get fries from somewhere else.

I just went for the first time yesterday night and it was delicious! I went in late, I didn't even know it would be open but was happy to see it was because I just wanted a hot dog. Went in with my sister and we both got hot dogs. They are char-dogs and taste amazing. Then the manager I believe or owner Bob was there, and he had us try the burger, we've never had one there before and I know that next time I stop by I'll definitely be getting the fatso burger! Delicious and hope that they have continued success, I do love a great neighborhood spot to get some good hot dogs and burgers!

I must say the double Fatso burger was awesome very tasty and not greasy at all and so were the fries. I will for sure be back to try their stuffed burger called gooey if I got it correct. The owner was super friendly shook my handing thanking me and asking how was the food. Awesome place highly recommended

Frank Meats Patty continues the Chicago tradition of Hot Doug's with amazing food and more importantly, great service. They brought over all the best stuff from Fatso's Last Stand and added a few creative recipes as well. Don't miss the fried shrimp! The clean, friendly atmosphere makes this a great experience overall and should be on everybody's list to check out.

My husband and I had lunch here over the weekend AND its our new favorite spot!!!!! My husband tried the most unique burger he has ever had..the Duck Burger...he hasn't stopped talking about the flavors and how juicy is was. He can't wait to go back! I had the double fatso and fries and it was great!!!! Hot juicy and big! I am also a sucker for Mac and Cheese and I could eat theirs all day long - creamy and delicious!!! The place is fun and it was hopping! IT was an overall great experience! I am going to tell all my friends and we can't wait to go back!! Welcome to the neighborhood!!!!

Delicious food and even better customer service. The hospitality from the owner alone will make you want to come back. The double fatso burger with cheese is tasty and filling, and you can't go wrong with a Mac & Cheese with a char dog. Definitely will be back!

Driving around on my lunch break & was in the area. I knew this was the home of Hot Dougs (now closed!) which I never tried, because I would never stand in a line for a half hour for a hot dog!! I walked in and was greeted by the gentelman at the counter, who was very informative and friendly. I went with the Double Fatso with cheese, and an order of fries. I will say the hamburger was very good, the fries were good too! The only negative was it's CASH ONLY, which isn't a big deal as long as you have your ATM card. I for sure will be back, but next time I will dine in, as my commute back to work took longer so my burger got a bit soggy from the travel but was still good! looking forward to my return!

Three words: char cheddar dogs. Wow! This place has a simple menu, and it does it well. Fatso burgers, hot dogs, fries, polish sausage, plus a few other sides, like veggie dogs, shrimp, and mac and cheese. And it does them all well. It has a tough bill to fill moving into the former Hot Doug's, but they don't try to out do the old place, they do what they do, and they do it well. Go...Enjoy...And try the char cheddar dog

Came in on a Sunday afternoon at 215pm. It wasn't busy. The staff is so friendly! I ordered the quarter pound fried jumbo shrimp and it came after a few minutes of waiting. Prompt. The owner came by to ask how they were. I thought they were yummy. Crispy breading, cooked well. He order me 5 more on the house. So kind! I will come back to try other items on the menu. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Living in the area, I have grown accustomed to hot dougs and the deliciousness they offered so when I heard they were closing and frank meats patty was moving in I was skeptical. I visited this fine establishment on the grand opening and boy was I pleasantly surprised! My main concern was whether they would try too hard to be hot dougs and not just let frank meats patty be it's own awesome food hub. Frank meats patty definitely establishes it's own identity and I feel the only part that is hot dougish is the fact that the space used to be hot dougs. The food is amazing and well priced, double ooey gooey for the price of whatever McDonald's is slinging? Um, why even have fast food ever again? The customer service is absolutely amazing. It can be busy as all get out and you will still be checked on frequently and asked if everything is to your liking, and if for some reason it is not, they will fix it on the spot! The menu has tons of options so if I was so inclined to gain hundreds of pounds, I could possibly eat here every day and not be bored of my options. Whenever I visit it is usually a good crowd of people so I am glad that this place is doing well. I hope it continues and they keep on with introducing new things as time moves on. Bring lots of cash, try everything you can and enjoy yourself! Hot dougs will be missed but do not count out frank meats patty as your new go to spot for whatever your tummies desire.

Have you heard the story about how Frank Meats Patty? Neither have I, but damn am I glad they got together! My brother and I went and decided to get a few different things and share them. Upon entering the restaurant, the employees were super friendly and I the place was spotless. We ordered the Super Ooey Gooey burger, the shrimp po boy, cheddar fries, and a small mac and cheese. Technically, we got the SOGB without the sport peppers so they used a regular Ooey Gooey and added bacon. I have had burgers from all over Chicago, clear across the country to Los Angeles and even in Australia and this was probably one of the best burgers I have EVER had. They don't lie when they say it's ooey gooey. Make sure you have napkins on hand. But it is juciy and flavorful. Grilled onions, bacon, fatso sauce and stuffed with cheddar, the same cheddar they give you to dip their perfectly cooked fries in. Apparently on Friday and Saturday they do duck fat fries which means, I definitely need to come back on a Friday or Saturday. The po boy was tasty as well. It was stuffed with large shrimp and lots of them. The macaroni and cheese wasn't your generic mac out of a box. Perfect flavor with just the right amount of breadcrumbs on top. By the way, if you like salami or hot dogs in your mac, you can add those too! They have all sorts of dogs and sausages, and a couple other burgers plus deep fried pickels but one can only eat so much food. We already had to take home some of what we ordered. My biggest complaint was that I got so full, I couldn't eat more. Between awesome staff and delicious food, Frank Meats Patty is a relationship that is meant to last!

Love this place! Walked in to a nice clean and open place. I love all the changes that were made!! Bob, the owner, was at the register. He was so warm and welcoming!!!! Very talkative character!!! He asked our names and didn't forget them by the end of our visit either. My friend and I each ordered a hot dog, fries to share, yummy fatso sauce to dip our fries in, and I had a yummy ginger ale in a bottle they sell in the little fridge up front. Everything was great!!! The fatso sauce they make is really delicious!!! I can't wait to go back and try the shrimp and burger!!! Great place, great food and great vibe.

GREAT burgers! The fatso burger reminds me of the A&W Papa Burgers. Make sure to add bacon. Need to go with a double next because I'm finishing the singles in 3 minutes. They are that good! Highly recommend.

Glutony goodness, much needed in the area when your not in the mood to hit the sports bars. Bring the kiddos, skip their fries since you'll have more than enough to share. The dbl w/cheese left me wanting more cheese & a bun to hold the belly bomb. I was like a ravenous animal on that perfectly cooked carne. & the Mexicano hermano knows how to do it. Cutey up front was friendly standing next to the reused cookie size tip jar. She said no card, to which i replied, didn't say so on yelp so this & a 3 buck fee dropped a star. They'll do well to add some guac to make it really rock, tu boca gringo!

You know, it's hard to fill some BIG shoes. After Hot Doug's, nothing will compare. I just walked one hour and 10,000 steps in the park. Was driving back home and saw this "frank meets patty" place. Yes! I decided to kill my workout with grease. Hot dog Chicago style and fires great! But this place is empty. Very. It's a good dog, feels like I'm at Hot Doug's with new paint job. HOT DOG IS VERY GOOD THOUGH! I have to give 3 stars just because I feel like a ghost here. CASH ONLY, similar music. Just feels weird to give it 5 stars. Maybe I'll Change my mind later. I wish them luck. I miss Doug. I remind you, it's a really good dog! And fries! Keep saying to myself. Just doesn't have anything that stands out as far as food item, ambiance, or decor. I'll come back. Tho AL's beef close by too. Let me mull over my thoughts.

Meh. This place was a disappointment. I know they have lettuce, tomato and onions. Would it be such a huge request to use those ingredients to make a salad? How about some chicken? The name gives the impression that the place might have a variety of meats. I was just hoping for some healthier options while my child was eating a hot dog.

The burger I ordered was way under cooked . I assumed there menu would consist of fresh patties not frozen looking burgers. I was hoping even some unique tasting burgers not plain everyday burgers. The fries were tasty and so were the fried pickles. Probably will not be rushing back. Also smelt like cigarettes by soda fountain..

This place has the ambience of Hot Doug's while maintaining its own attitude. I went for the first time this afternoon. First, the fries were great. Flavorful, a little crispy but not burned. It seems like a lot of places that do real fries tend to be a bit soggy. I didn't experience that here. Side note, I got a side of cheddar with the fries and I'm pretty sure it was actually cheddar! It definitely didn't seem like one of those machine cheeses that are electric yellow and become plastic as they cool. I also ordered the super ooey gooey. Basically, they take two burgers and wrap them around cheese and peppers. It was as good as it sounds, and it was as ooey gooey as it sounds. I brought mine home, and had to hold the take out tray underneath so as to avoid making a mess. The burger was great. Next time I'll probably opt for the regular ones. I'd like to try the dogs and polish on my next trip. Oh, and the owner/manager stands at the front counter a la Doug and greets people he knows. Super cool.
