Performed above expectations. I hadn't been to a Five Guys establishment prior to this, but I'd be hard pressed to imagine people that were more enthusiastic than those running this particular joint. Burger was fresh made and delicious. Legit that all the toppings are included so you're able to step up your burger game without stepping more out of pocket. Value + Delicious = Awesome.

The first thing I like about this place: the free, in-the-shell peanuts. Not only does it attract peanut lovers like me, but it keeps all the families with whiny, peanut-allergy-having kids. away. (Just kidding, kiddos: If they were serving dust mites over a bed of pollen plants, I'd run for the desert hills myself.) Do too many cooks spoil the broth? Perhaps. The place is good for a fast food place: the burgers are cooked to order and the fact that their patties are never frozen is likely responsible for their good flavor and chew. The fries were "meh" on my crispy outside/fluffy inside scale. Service was very friendly both times that I've been. Prices are reasonable too, at least for the burgers. A smaller size of fries at half the price would improve the offerings. If there weren't a bevy of good burgers at non-chain, locally-owned burger palaces and joints in the city, the place would probably rate a four (maybe a five in the 'burbs or beyond). Final verdict: Three guys out of five. The other two can hang around and have a beer or two; just don't hover over the grill and fryer guys with your "helpful" suggestions; and don't even think about touching those tongs to press the meat down on the grill (and squeeze out the juices)). If you do, then as the burger Nazi might say, "No snoop(ing) for you!"

Satisfying, relatively fast, but not that cheap... everything is a la carte, no combos.

People who don't "get" what's so great about this place have just been missing out on great burgers their whole life! I'm from the DMV area where this place originated, so I've been a fan of Five Guys forever. Now I'd weigh 300 lbs if I ate here all the time, but I do appreciate having a great burger joint in my neighborhood. The last time I was here, James, the night manager was fantastic and hooked me up. I mean, I've always had great service with these folks, but he was particularly friendly and welcoming to all of the guests. Oh, and they also have that fancy coke fountain machine where you can mix and match a ton of combinations... pretty cool with that's your thing! LOL. Fun fact: DMV = DC, Maryland, Virginia ;-)

I thought it was fast, but then it was very slow....and although I was there at 9pm, it wasn't too busy. But the worst part is that my cheese wasn't melted....so what the heck took so long? I really like their cajun fries, they're pretty great, but no size larger then a small is needed, they're pretty generous with them.

Didn't have a good experience.they forgot to put the bacon and also the taste was very pretty ordinary. The management seemed least bothered.I have had better burgers which were grass fed beef, very delicious, had very awesome toppings and cost the same.

I am not sure what all the fuss is about here. The burger wasn't that great. I don't get the two patties. The BBQ lacked flavor. The bun was blah. The fries were just average (and way salty). The service was good but we were there for the food.

I first visited the Five Guys 2 years ago at their Orland Park location. This was when the hype was just starting to circulate. I wasn't that impressed and haven't thought of returning until today. So many people love Five Guys, so I thought that I may have missed something my first time around. I ordered a little cheeseburger and little fries which came out to $7.76. I decided to omit the drink since that would have brought the tab to over $10. I was really disappointed. It took a really long time to get my food even though there were only a few people eating. I was able to eat 3 trays of peanuts while I waited for my burger. Given the long wait, I just don't understand why the meat on my burger was cold. How does that even happen? The burger just wasn't good. I felt ripped off. The fries were warm but nothing great. I prefer fast food thin cut fries, however, so maybe I'm just biased. Overall, the highlight of my trip was the peanuts and that's sad. For $7, I would rather get 4 McDoubles and make an 8 patty Super Cheeseburger with large fries, and a drink at McDonalds. I'm giving it 2 stars because of the peanuts. Let me reiterate the burger wasn't bad; it was just bad for the price and for being cold.

I was underwhelmed by the burger here. Perhaps it's because I only got onions and mushrooms on it, but personally I think if a burger is good, you don't need a lot of extra stuff on it. And the well done thing? Not MCOT at all. I like my meat medium rare and seasoned well. This was neither and I was disappointed after hearing people hype it up so much. The 2 stars are for the fries (Cajun) and the soda fountain. I mean, how cool is the soda fountain? I wish I had one at my house.

This place is across the street from my work and after a long day (or weekend) I end my shift with a nice juicy little burger. As I've said in other reviews about Five Guys, I enjoy the fact that the menu is simple and that my burger is made to order. The toppings are also always fresh. You can order and pay online if you are really in a hurry or are tired of interacting with the human race (hey, it happens to the best of us). The little cup for fries? You're getting a whole bag man. Sidle up to any table here and strap on a feed bag. It's going to be a good day.

The food is always god and the workers are super friendly. Fries are so delicious!!!!! Sometimes it can be a bit of a wait for the food, but I'd say it's worth it.

  • Sam L.

The burgers here are a big step up from McDonald's and the like for a modest step up in price. Well worth it. The best part, though, are the cajun fries. I get mine with extra cajun on the belief that there's no such thing as too much cajun seasoning.

  • Janet E.

Hmm..I'm not quite sure what the hype is about for Five Guys. I thought the burgers were only okay, especially for the price. I personally think In-N-Out burgers or Epic burgers taste better. The only thing that I really enjoyed were the Cajun fries since they are different from other burger joints. Expect to pay almost $10 for a burger and fries (no drink). Of course I'd like this place to do well, but I think they should lower their prices for me to frequent this place more often.

  • Jules L.

Five Guys is my burger splurge joint because have you seen how giant their burgers are? I also love that they have so many ingredients that just come with your burger--mushrooms! jalepenos! and they're fresh and not canned!--so you can get it loaded. I'm not even going to talk about the cajun fries because you already know. This location loses a star because my burger had like a single jalepeno slice on it.

  • Estrella G.

These people know their business, the staff is fast, nice, the burgers are very good, the prices are fair, the Cajun fries are a pleasant thing to eat after just having boring plane fries from every restaurant. it is a very convenient and tasty place to visit, I would recommend to go and eat any time you are in a mood for burgers. The 4 stars is only because they are missing the wheat bread it will be a nice addition.

This place just opened, I'm harsh on restaurants- tend to only review the places around where I live (South Loop) and won't hold anything back. Feel free to read my other reviews. I work in the loop, live a block from this particular 5guys, have been here a dozen times since it opened and will continue going back. The service is what you'd expect (good), the atmosphere is lively (an unimportant quality for us), and most importantly the food is good and fresh. We cook a lot at home as well, and make an impossible to beat organic (chemical free, genetically unmodified, naturally grown, the way food was created beginning of time - 60 years ago) burger on wheat buns with organic toppings.. but when we're a little tired this is our go-to place. You really can't go wrong with this FiveGuys, best burger place in South Loop and certainly as-good or better than the other franchises available in Chicago. While you can (if you know what you're doing) make a better burger at home, and while not grassfed beef - they do claim to not use ammoniated beef at all, regardless if it's pink slime or not. Please correct me if I have this wrong. Keeping that in mind, I find this place acceptable for a burger made outside of our home. One of very few places I'd approve of to eat beef I didn't verify the source of myself. Just don't order the large fries though, they give you a very generous portion with the regular size- it goes well with the great value this place offers. A tip we got from one of the cashiers, thanks- you didn't lose any business helping us out. We go once a week on average.

Split a small order of fries for up to three people. Your stomach will thank you.

Eh. I think a lot of people over hype Five Guys. Staff is nice, but I think the food just is okay. Price- Pretty cheap. Quality- The burgers I feel are pretty compact and not that juicy or anything. Quantity- You get a good amount of fries. They fill your bag to the brim with them. Staff- Very nice. Very impressed with the staff. Atmosphere- What you'd expect from Five Guys. Probably only go back if other stuff is closed. I do like to say "Last night my girlfriend stuffed her mouth with 5 guys."

  • Eddie W.

Standard five guys, free peanuts, great and plentiful cajun/normal fries (no sweet potato fries here), great burgers and pretty good hot dogs. Drinks are self-served from a Coca-cola freestyle machine so you can have that raspberry sprite zero if your heart so desires. Their burgers aren't pretty to look at and should probably be eaten immediately, but what greasy fast food sin't like that? Pretty friendly crew too which is a plus.

    (5)
  • Laila C.

I don't really eat fast food burgers so I don't really get the hype around 5 guys. I enjoyed the free unlimited toppings. Also the fries are tasty.

  • Rob S.

I was a Five Guys virgin until yesterday. While it was not the burger orgasm I was expecting, it was damn good. Get lots of napkins; it was one of the juiciest burgers I'd ever had. Fries are great too. Everything was made to order. Don't think I'd want to go here if it's too busy-you might wait awhile-but if you're hungry and the line isn't too long, go ahead and get your burger freak on.

    (4)
  • Lee D.

This place is OK. Yes, the burger is $5, it's greasy and you get a mountain of fries. I felt it was a lot of hype and not a lot of substance. I guess the market is the college kid that wants a greasy burger for $5.00 - for that ok, they fit the bill.

  • Valerie C.

Amazing fries, staff making food was super friendly. I don't eat meat so I can't speak for the burgers but the rest of my party loved theirs, and the hot dog. Veggie sandwich is good as long as you don't forget to add extras.

Five guys is my favorite fast food burger place and the location in the south loop is my favorite branch. Definitely has the friendliest staff in Chicago

    (5)
  • Michael W.

Good, reasonably fast burger at a solid price. Normally I would prefer Cajun fries, but their normal fries have enough flavor for me. If I had reviewed Five Guys 2 years ago, they might have gotten 5 stars, but over the last 2 years I've experienced some other burger places in the same category that are simply better tasting.

    (4)
  • Andrea B.

Great burgers, and great fries. The cajun fries are a must. Also, they don't charge for extra toppings, which is definitely a plus in my book. I also love this place because you can see the employees cooking, which means it is probably a lot cleaner than other burger places in the area.

  • Gail G.

I made it to the South Loop location today, and I am inspired to post because 1) the fries can now be ordered in a smaller size [not unique to South Loop but anyway]; 2) the staff is SO nice and SO friendly. That's really it. I love a good burger, and the fries are great, but with so much competition around for burgers, I wanna recognize when service is exceptional. I felt like I was living a Hunter Hayes song, "I wanna make you feel wanted". They want you in their store and aren't afraid to show it!

  • Gregory C.

Love it. I'm the guy who always orders the double bacon cheese burger with ketchup and jalapenos. Love the soda machines here too. Awesome idea and investment.

Very great service. Everyone there is very friendly, quick and courteous. The food is good never had a bad five guys burger good flavor and lots of topping options. Can't beat the coke machine Cherry Vanilla Coke is my favorite l. Parking isn't easy though there is a empty lot next to them but don't think it's there's still parked there the three times I went I always take it to go.

If anybody could give Mickey D's a run for its' money on best fries of all time, it'd be Five Guys. Unfortunately I have to rate the burgers as well, and they're just ok, and really pricey. I'd rather go a few blocks north and grab some epic burger, but if you're craving awesome fries, free peanuts, and a decent burger, Check out five guys, I'm sure you'll leave happy.

I had the BEST experience at this Five Guys location. We had visited a couple other locations in the past, so my expectations going in weren't that high. This location totally redeemed Five Guys' reputation. The staff was very friendly and made sure my order was perfect. Excellent customer service!

Most Islamic-friendly fast-food place in the City. For example, you have a rushed day and you plan to Meet your friend here for lunch, but she shows up on Princess time , an hour late. Thankfully, there is a hallway in the back , so if you get stuck here and it's asr time, u can pray there in peace. Then order your food, while u experience GENUINE, and REAL Customer Service, thanking you for your patronage with free small fries to share with your friend. Food is hot and delicious right off the grill, never too greasy, but greasy enough. Special requests are handled with finesse. You are never treated like a second class citizen, or international exchange student, because you order a veggie burger or grilled cheese in a Burger Joint. You can occupy a table for hours and hours, study, and get your b'ness situated while you sip your weird concoctions of raspberry-infused Coca-Cola, and remember the way you were treated badly at the Falafel place around the way, and Alhamdulillah, you won't be going there any time soon, cuz this is the new place you like to hang with your sis.

There is such a craze for burgers these days and this particular Five Guys does not disappoint. Their burgers are probably the same from any other Five Guys, but what makes this place more special is that the service is really friendly and attentive. Customer service gets 5 stars. The place is also very clean. I'll definitely go back.

Meh....This was my first experience at a Five Guys, and honestly I think it's a little hyped up. The environment is pretty cool and I appreciate their free peanuts, and their creative approach to the Cajun Fries. However, I thought the cheese burger was a little too greasy. Honestly it's probably a PHENOMENAL option for a late night snack after a few drinks, but alas, I not so well prepared when I visited.

Don't know why it took me forever to eat at Five Guys, but when a buddy of mine took me a few months ago for my first time at this S. Loop location, I was SO impressed. The bacon cheeseburger was AMAZING. I didn't order any fries because I was going to share with the friend I came with. But when the guys dishing out the orders found out it was my first time and I didn't have any fries with my burger, they just gave me a regular order of fries (with the customary extra scoop of fries in the bag) for FREE. For a chain restaurant, that was a super nice touch. Thanks Five Guys! I'll be back.

Definitely one of the best Five Guys I've been to. It's consistently good, great staff, fries are cooked well and it's always very clean.

I have been to Five Guys all over the country (including the Chicago Clybourn one) and have never been disappointed. In fact, we love their burgers. However, we have been to this franchise on Wabash at least 4 times and the burgers her are far below anything we've had at other Five Guys. The first time we went to this one, we thought it was subpar just because they had been opened for less than a month and needed to work out the kinks. Subsequent visits showed no improvement though. Every time we ask for mayonaise, they put so much on there it's oozing out of the bun and you can scrape off at least half a teaspoon of it and still have more than enough. The meat is also pretty bland and tasteless. Worst of all though, they never seem hot enough. As another reviewer said, the cheese isn't even melted. As for the "abundant" order of fries you get Five Guys is famous for, this one doesn't give you nearly as much as the others. With the overflow in the bag, there's usually plenty for 3-4 people. Here, the portion we got barely fed the two of us .... the cup and maybe 7 fries in the bag. Never been to a Five Guys we didn't like, so this is a first.

  • Amy O.

Their food was not worth all the hype for me. I have friends who love their food. I tried their burger and fries. I was not impressed. The burger was huge and it was good but I don't think it's worth the trip or the price. Their fries are separately priced and I regretted getting them. I would rather have mc Donalds fries...then again who can beat mcdonals fries.. still their fries were probably one of the worst I had. :-/ Would I go back? Maybe if I'm really craving burger and it's nearby.

picked up burgers for my kids, surprised to see that they have only 2 kinds, hamburgers and veggie burgers. I like the help your self, free roasted peanuts which is kinda cool to munch on while your burger is being cooked.

  • Susan C.

I went here for lunch and this place is like a fast food joint for burgers, hotdogs and fries. I try their hotdogs with fries. I must say I didn't like the hotdog and fries I got but I ate it. I wouldn't go back to this place unless a friend wants to go who never try it and by then I would have yet need to try the burgers people rave about. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive to my needs but the wait time was a little longer than I expected since I only had an hour lunch.

  • Justin C.

Not real sure what some people are expecting when coming to this place? McDonald's fries are better? That's sad to the point of laughable! Chemical laden crap vs cut and cooked fresh. Sorry but no comparison. My experience at 5 guys was excellent as expected and this location is awesome. The employees make it even better. They were singing and smiling and enjoying their time at work. Keep up the good work and kudos to the workers! Great job

  • Daniel S.

I'll admit this place had some really good food, the cheeseburger and hot dog were both really good, the hot dog is sliced open, which is different, but what won me over was the cajun fries, they were so good, couldnt get enough of them, plus you get all the free peanuts you want in the store, the one downside tho is that I had some major gas afterwards and into the next day, idk if wanna go through that again, but i might endure it cuz theyre so good

I've never written a Yelp review before but felt compelled to after my experience at this Five Guys location. I have always enjoyed this franchise and want to note that this review is about the customer service vs. the food. The burgers are quick and fries are good. I just moved in to a new apartment and was excited to see a 5 guys across the street. I ordered online this evening and walked over about 10 mins later and arrived 5 minutes or so after my order was supposed to be ready. There were only 2 other people in the store (1 already eating) - I was not greeted by a single person upon entering (so okay whatever) and headed to the area marked "Pick Up" - There was an employee standing about 1 ft in front of me who did not even acknowledge my presence, so i stood and waited. The other person's name was called and they went and got their food. So now i'm the ONLY person waiting on an order and still no one has acknowledged me. Finally, I SEE my name on a ready to go order - so I said politely "sorry, you didn't call my name but I see my order over there just want you to know i'm here" I kid you not, the ENTIRE line of employees (about 4 or 5) started arguing with me, saying "Yes we did WE CALLED YOUR NAME!" and i was so taken a back, I go "I've been standing here and I don't think you did", and the female employee tells me "Yes we did, but YOU did not do this right. You are supposed to go to the "Order Here" section before "Pick Up" to tell us you are here. You did not do that, so we did not know... so you need to walk over there" Perhaps that was my mistake? But either way, if I'm the only person in the store a simple "how can we help you?" could've helped me understand I wasn't following their strict order process. I was fuming, but walked over there where another employee gave me my receipt and said "don't worry ma'am you'll get to eat your burger" while literally laughing at me. Even though no one acknowledged me when I walked in, I certainly received several "Have a nice day!" condescending shouts as I left. I realize that if the worst part of my day is when the employees at Five Guys make me feel like an idiot, then overall things are good haha, but i just had to write this. It was cathartic and as a manager I would be appalled if my staff treated a customer like that ever. Probably for the best that I will not be going back, those fries are delicious and their rudeness will save me some calories :) Either way SHAME ON YOU SUNDAY STAFF!!!

I wasn't expecting much because many people overhyped Five Guys. But I must confess, I really enjoyed their burgers and fries. I order single patty with lettuce, tomatoes and mustard, and they've always been delicious to me. I still don't understand the hype but their food is very good. Not to mention, the fry cup was always overflowing with fries :d I used to eat there often since my school was really close by. The staff was always friendly too.

I visited Five Guys for the first time here. It's very delicious! I like the taste of beef there!

    (5)
  • Vina O.

Very decent and good sized burgers. The fries are also delicious and I'm usually really picky about fries. You can basically get all the toppings you want for free (excluding bacon). I'm knocking off a couple stars because 1) parking in the area sucks, 2) the fries arrived EXTREMELY HOT, like burn the roof of your mouth hot, and 3) prices are a bit expensive for a fast food burger place... like ~$7 per burger.

Even during the lunch rush, the staff was super friendly. The cashier was just the sweetest. Love their burgers, and nothing beats their fries.

Let me start by saying I got food poisoning here yesterday (12/21), which is the main point of this review. While I typically enjoy Five Guys fast food, unbelievably unhealthy burgers, I can't eat at this location anymore. I came in when they opened at 11am and got a burger and fries. I tipped the loose coins from the change from my order in the inexplicable tip jar and got a very sarcastic "thank you" from the three girls goofing around behind the counter. I remember thanking, "why am I tipping you in the first place, this is a fast food restaurant and you're not waiters", and then thinking "great, now I have to get food from three people who think they are entitled to 20% for cooking food". It's an $8 fast food burger and you don't even bring it to my table or fill my drink... what are you doing for a tip again? Needless to say about three hours after eating the food I got incredibly sick and threw up for several hours. It was my only meal since 6pm the previous night and my only meal up until that point. After several hours of vomiting I felt better, so it clearly wasn't the flu. Considering some kind of police or legal action, but I imagine it's difficult to prove someone intentionally served bad food or undercooked food, or whatever set it off. I'd be very surprised it if wasn't on purpose, though. I will NEVER visit this or any other Five Guys again, and I'm done tipping people who flat out don't deserve tips.

Fantastic burger joint to grab a quick, yet tasty bite to eat before moving on to the next adventure!! The staff at this location was patient, funny and kind!! We enjoyed the peanuts offered as a snack while waiting for your order to be called. The free toppings for your burger were awesome!! I would recommend adding jalapeños!! Delicious!!

This is a solid 5 guys location. I always online order, and then pick-up. Never had any problems and the food is great, I get junior bacon hamburger all the way with jalapeno peppers. Not a fan of the cajun fries, but their regular ones are good.

    (4)
  • Cecil S.

People focus too much on the burgers from Five Guys that the hot dogs go under-appreciated. Next time you go, get the Cheese Dog, and try it with the jalapenos; you'll be pleasantly surprised (love how they slice the dog in half). Don't really care for the whole bag full of fries, I doubt that anyone actually eats all of them anyways. They are on the pricier side, but at least they make good food. I also realized that there are exactly five guys that work at this location between all the positions, and it may just be me, but there is kind of a lengthy wait time that they could improve on compared to other locations but you can always just order ahead (online.).

  • Fatema Y.

Walked-in 10 minutes before they closed, but the staff was full of energy and the service was great. We ordered hamburgers, cheeseburgers and a large fries. All toppings are free, and the burgers are a good size. They were pretty generous with the fries. They cut up the hot dogs from the middle, which looked interesting. I'll be getting that next time I'm there. Service was a bit slow, but they were busy as well, considering they were trying to live up to the "five guys" only behind the counter. I'd definitely go again.

FINALLY after years of living in the city I tried Five Guys. The hype did not disappoint. My burger was great - juicy, slightly greasy with the perfect ratio of bun to cheese to meat. The other yelpers are right, the fries are plentiful (don't let the small looking cup fool you, they pile them high in the bag). I got the bacon cheeseburger, but would probably go without bacon next time...it didn't add much to the experience. I love that you can order and pay online too! Plus the staff was upbeat and friendly. Definitely a place to stop for a quick bite or if you're craving a burger. The prices is similar to what you'd find at a diner.

Great fries and service. Cheese burger was tasty but too greasy. Definitely overpriced. $11 and change for a cheeseburger, small fries and a medium soda.

I'm from Arlington. The birthplace of Five Guys. Is it as good as the real deal? Pretty much. Sorry In-N-Outers, but Five Guys kicks your ass. It's bitter sweet that this place wasn't around while I was at Columbia. If it were, I'd be a fatso. The burgers at Five Guys are really flavorful and come doubled up in each burger so there is plenty of food. You choose your toppings right at the register. You know what you want, you know what you get. It really hits the spot. The fries are really spectacular and so are the shakes. Really, everything on the menu is awesome and peanuts are free. Kind of random, but they're there. The staff was many and they were really friendly. If it tells you anything, Five Guys was voted best burger in DC every year since 99 or something. Boomshakalaka!
