It was about 1:30 in the morning on a friday night when my girlfriend and i got our taco craving so naturally we went to Zaca taco but they were closed, Paco's tacos closed, Los Comales had some bad reviews so further down Pulaski we went we came across El Solazo so we decided to stop in and order some late night treats, since it had a nice sized crowd in there we decided to phone our order in for pick up 4 tacos with all the trimmings and an order of guacamole the girl on the phone was super polite and said about 10 minutes so we sat in our car and waited, after about 8 minutes we went in to pick up our food and it was already bagged and waiting for us the price was about 12 bucks so my first thought was this cant be good for such a low price. When we got home and tore into our goodies to our surprise everything was fantastic the tacos were still hot and man were they huge, the guac was made to order which we both preffer, and the chips were still warm I still love the sopa de pollo from Zaca but i think its safe to say that we have a new place for tacos, burritos, & tortas. Way to go El Solazo keep up the good work!

The tacos Al Pastor and Pollo adobado are awesome! Also the staff is friendly, Lourdes rocks!

I was recommended this restaurant when I asked for great Mexican food and somewhere closer to the south side as two other friends and I were there for the day. The food here was excellent! We ordered El Solazo special for two because we heard it was a little big but even then it was much more than we could have eaten. The portions are definitely generous, a great ratio of meats to vegetables and everything was grilled beautifully. The only criticism I have is the salsa, which was a little on the watery side, even then it still had great flavor. Environment was nice and home like, a tad small but the outside patio gave everything a nice summer feeling.

I believe this place to be the best Mexican restaurant that Chicago has. My sisters and I always come down south to get our Solazo fix. Our recent visit we had gotten the Solazo which consists of pork chop, skirt steak, chicken, shrimp, beef ribs, grilled veggies, sabolitas (sp?), and a side of rice and beans. It says it serves two but definitely filled my two sisters and I up! Quality of the food is just impeccable and I can never complain. They have different options for hot sauces which is also a ++++++ for me! The service is always GREAT and they always accommodate your wants and needs. I'm pretty sure it's the owner that's always there and he is just a gem also. I would definitely recommend this place to my fellow southsiders as it is a drive for my northsiders but def worth it.

The food isn't the same as it was years ago but it's still a good place to check out if your on the south side of Chicago. I would of gave it 4 stars but this pat experience the steak was dry usually anything steak here is really good along with the sauce and carrots. Food is well portioned and price isn't high just the wait for dine in is a while.

I love coming here. The food is decent but the view is great as many have mentioned. The staff is friendly and the price is reasonable. So if you're ever in the southside and you are craving Mexican, this place should be your stop.

El Solazo has really good tacos de asada and burritos too. the staff is really nice and they do the food pretty fast! one thing that I will recommend is to go after 6 or 7pm, even know it will be more busy but for some reason the food taste better lol.

Holy frijole! This place served some of the best Mexican food I've ever had, and I'm an Arizonan, growing up on and eating Mexican food several times a week! The lengua tacos were delish and hubby's enchiladas were equally good! He even said the special cheese was totally worth the nominal extra charge! Be sure to have the guacamole! Made fresh and there was no chance for polite sharing after one taste! ... and where do you get flan presented like this?! What a treat to find on the way to the airport to fly back home to AZ. If you have time for a bite before a flight, drive your speedy rental car over to this very special diner for a taste of 'El Paraiso'! Yuuuum!

Great food, hours, and service! Not great location, parking, or...if you can't quite read Spanish. We walked in around 1am on a Saturday night (Sunday morning?). Stone sober, but hungry. We wanted take-out, which was easy to order, but difficult to wait for. There's no waiting area, so you just stand near the door inevitably in someone's way. The entire menu is in Spanish - I can generally speak it, so I was fine - but I could imagine this being difficult if you had no grasp of the language. I ended up ordering a mushroom quesadilla, gordita (how could I not, with that name??), rice and beans, and pico. The pico came with chips, which I didn't expect but was very happy to receive. It was incredible! Fresh and well seasoned and salty. The rice and beans were great, though a small portion. Both the quesadilla and gordita were fantastic. I loved the big strips of portobello mushrooms! I also drank horchata, which was a great sweet treat. What struck me most was the decor and presentation INSIDE of this restaurant. The food was served on wood slabs and carefully presented - even at 1am. Though an odd location, this place knows where it's at!

The food tastes pretty good. It actually tastes better than most Mexican restaurant. The wait is sometimes just ridiculous. It seems like they need to find a better system to sit there customers. I believe it is a BYOB. But they do not really say they are. If you ask they will say yes but when you bring out your bottle of wine they look at you like you have two heads. The prices are a bit above average. Their salsas are very good. They have like 5 parking spaces in the back and not much street parking . So if you're going for lunch you will probably get crappy service and not find parking but if you go after 6 or 7 p.m. You'll probably be fine. It is nice that they have outside seating in warm weather.

Horchata was good and so were the steak tacos. Also very good mild salsa and house tortilla chips. Girls are hot at this location lol!!!

Visiting from so cal. This place was recommended by hotel staff. I knew it would be good when we pulled up because of the cop cars outside. Come on, cops always know where to eat, right? Ordered a burritos and it was great. Food came quickly. Staff refilled our drinks regularly. The place was a little small but they turned tables quickly. I spoke to one of the cops eating there and he made a funny comment. He called this place the "Mexican Hooters" due to the young good looking waitresses...LOL

My favorite place for chilaquiles!! Everything in their menu is delicious! Their cooks are not consistent though, sometimes they give you aguacate on your burrito, sometimes they dont. On the pechuga asada sometimes they give you cactus/nopales sometimes they dont. The cooks need to learn the menu. But ultimately the food is always delicious!

small kitchen equals, lots of love. the food here is delicious. anytime you see Mexican people eat at a Mexican restaurant , you know it's good. service is wonderful too. this is definitely a bookmark place to stop in for a quick bite, or have a sit down, to enjoy a parillada for two. yummy!

Tried to eat breakfast since solazo opens at 9am but at 9:15 the doors were locked, we knocked on the window as we clearly saw employees setting up and when we asked if they were open yet the girl inside just shook her head no and kept on walking. A "we'll be open in a few min" would've been courteous I would've waited but nothing. I won't beg you to take my Money.

Stuck up waitresses, shitty coffee, and mediocre food. Parking is also a hassle, it's more of a Latino version of hooters. The waitresses drool even over the ugliest of guys. It's a disaster, I understand they have to make a living but not in such a degrading matter. Regardless like I said the food sucks, it's bland and over priced.

I honestly think the food here tastes better in the evening, after 7pm. I don't know why, maybe the night cooks are in culinary school during the day or something but I've noticed the difference in the flavor and presentation of the food. I ordered tacos de lengua once for dinner because I got out of work late, and they were amazing, finely chopped and well seasoned. But when I ordered them again during a day visit, it was just a slab of lengua with cebolla and cilantro (kind of gross). Same thing with the tacos de carne asada: I ordered them for lunch once and I had to do a double take because they tasted/looked just like the carne asada tacos from Los Comales (no bueno), and during my next visit at around 11pm (they're the only local taco place open at that time) the carne asada tacos were perfect. Definitely go in the evening. Decor wise: I've dined in a few times and it's a very nice, small, clean local restaurant with exposed brick walls and flat screen tvs in every corner. It is constantly packed (and a local police favorite) but the staff is quick and have a work rhythm going on that keeps this small busy restaurant a stress-free dining experience. Why three stars? Well despite El Solazo being labeled as good for kids, I wouldn't recommend bringing children here. In terms of family friendly: Its pick up the food, take it home and eat it with your family type of family friendly. The restaurant is really small, the people sitting at the table next to mine during a visit dropped the F word in every sentence. Not the restaurant's fault, it's these people's mamas but they weren't loud, there is just not enough space between tables here, so your taking a chance if you bring kids. Also the majority of the time they play music videos on the flat screens, and music videos these days are not for kids. Before I realized the food was better at night here, I came to eat lunch with my 6yr old after school at around 3:30pm and all of these sleazy music videos were on the screens (video ex: Robin Thicke's "GIve it 2 U" video came on) talk about trauma!. If they're not playing music videos, local sports are on, so its almost bar like, just without a bar.. it's a sober bar with no drama and good tacos, yea that sums this place up lol.

I have no complaints about this place. I've been here a couple of times and it's never a disappointment. The only thing I don't like about coming here is the parking. It's too little to hold any cars and the street is always packed, but the food and service always makes up for it. The agua de horchata is delicious! I feel like everywhere I go they are never good, but this one is a must have. The salsa they give with the chips is my favorite!!! I really really like to be sat down with some good chips and salsa. I normally get tacos and my boyfriend gets gorditas with a side of rice and beans for both us to share and it's fire. Looking for a place to go after ten when everything else is closed? This is the place to go. I don't go for lunch but I'm sure you will not regret it. Prices are very economic too. Get your family and go to Solazo.

You guys have horrible customer service. I just walked in and walked straight out. I waited to be seated. Other people were seated before us. Then your waitress has the nerve to offer us a table the size of a nightstand.

Sooooo. You know the old saying that when they're police officers everywhere, you should most definitely stop what you're doing and eat. Well, this place definitely proved this stereotype true! This place was filled with police officers and neighborhood patrons alike. After being in there just 15 Mins., I fully understood the "hype" around this little Gem. It was amazing! For our 1st stop of our fourth year edition of supper Club Chicago, this awesome byob served more than what meets the eye. Rather you wanted an awesome cicenia taco or a good sope, nothing failed to make the cut. we also shared a sizzling seafood and meat mix. It was soooo good. A platter for 3 sufficiently served all 7 of us, as an amazing appetizer. All and all this place was great. Just remember to bring cash because they only separate the bill two ways. )it was my Only complaint ). Oh yeah and of course it was BYOB, which makes everything that much better!

I have come back to give an updated review. Since this time El Solazo has come to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Midway area. The dinner plates are still my all time favorite. The enchiladas are amazing whether you choose chicken or cheese, rojo or verde. The rice and beans are average. The nopales which come with most of the dinner plates are absolutely amazing. Since my last update their steak used for tacos has vastly improved and is well seasoned. Their pollo adobado is one of my favorites. I also recommend the pechuga de pollo, the carne asada plate, or the pollo a la mexicana! If you want authentic Mexican food in the midway area this is the place to be. It should be noted that this place can get pretty packed on the weekends and is well known for their late night hours. I need to also add that their service has finally improved. When they first opened they hired girls who were cute and that's about it. They didn't give basic customer service but now you walk in the door and right away you are asked if you are picking up or eating in. They come back to your table now even after you are served your food. I'm glad they realized that customer service was also a big part of their business and for this I do commend them!

I recommend the fajitas solazo. It comes with chicken steak and shrimp along with bells pepper, onion and tomatoes. Rice and beans also included. I have to say everything that I've tasted so far has been delicious. I've read some previous comments and seen pictures of chicken left out. I frequently go there and have not seen anything like that. I'm thinking that it is a problem of the past and they have since improved. Waitresses are attentive and always around when needed. Very friendly and efficient!

I would never have noticed this place since it's small and along busy Pulaski, and so thank you, Yelp. I went with friends on a Sunday for lunch. It was full with a wait, but not terrible. Like others have said, there's really not a good place to wait. However, we got there about 12:30 and by 2:00 there wasn't a wait. The food was good with a ton of options. I was worried my vegetarian friends wouldn't have enough choices, but they were satisfied with what was available and both found options they liked. I really enjoyed the tacos and the cactus. Yes, the menu is mostly in Spanish, but it's a Spanish restaurant. I read Spanish poorly, but they have descriptions in English for each choice. Even if they didn't, there are some pictures, and I have a Spanish translator app on my phone. Prices are really decent, too no matter your budget. It's a really cute place - clean, nicely decorated. I definitely will be back and probably at an off-peak time to avoid standing directly behind someone as they're eating.

So aggravated!! Do not even waste your time here, all servers are just retarded... We came here from California on 08/14/2014 at 3:50 pm they don't even give a wait time they were gossip each other, cookers all distracted and stressful, used to be a better customer service before but Manager/Owner wasn't there... Waiting for a table of 4 and guess what!? Other server ignore us that we are there first... People come and they were sat before us... I Do Not RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!! You want to enjoy with your Family go somewhere better. Thank You for treat us like that. I Bless your business.

I'm so surprised this place doesn't have a higher star rating. I really enjoyed the Gordita with ground beef and the salsa and chips are really delicious! I would definitely come back to try more things, service was friendly and attentive unlike what others have experienced. They were really busy for a Tuesday after lunch rush but stayed on top of everything. Thank you for an awesome experience, keep up the great work!

A Just OK, So I was recently here for dinner and I have been here a few times and for some reason, I can't quite figure out why, this is not the first place that comes to mind when going to eat in this hood. Who am I kidding, I know exactly why. Their food is just ok, the service is nice but I have never had any food that is more than just ok. The place is kinda cool, and they have outside seating (in summer), piecewise I would say that they are on the dot. Ahh and I believe they are open late. El Solazo just OK

This place has officially become my favorite nearby mexican joint. Used to be Zaca tacos but all of sudden their meat is lacking and fatty as f. The guac is great and love the steak tortas! I haven't ventured farther from that on the menu because it I know it's always so good. I can't imagine anything from here being disappointing though.

This place has the best carne en su jugo soup that I have ever had. It gets busy at lunch and the waitresses are very attentive. Casual place with authentic food. Sweet! Don't sit by the bathroom!

*****************UPDATE************************ A little update. Now I see why there is a 3.5 average. The one day I came it was a slice of heaven, the next time the tacos sucked ass. Me and my significant other ordered one of each tacos. Yes, one of each taco, and they were all not very good. They were not horrible but they were not good either, which means they sucked. There was a big problem with dry meat being the theme or some were bland. The burrito was still amazing though. My brother had the same issue when he returned the tacos went down hill. I am adjusting my score for the lack of conisistancy. 3.5 star average Yelp star score!!?? Are you f*#$ing serious!! I went here Saturday for lunch and this place had such good Mexican food it moved up to one of the top places on my list. I ordered a steak burrito and it was so damn good and only $5, this included avacado slices and sour cream in the burrito plus the steak was so damn succulant, juicy and delicious. I also had their Carne deshebrada (shredded beef) taco which was a slice of heaven because the meat was so tasty. I also had this other shredded meat taco that they do not seem to have listed on their online menu so I do not remember the same but it was like a slice of heaven! My brother said the Pollo adobado taco was really good, that I will have to try next time. The salsas and hot sauces are amazing. The hot sauces that come in those squirt out thingys were made super fresh, in fact, the sauces were still hot because they were just made. They also make those sauces with fresh peppers (you can so taste it) and also a meat stock was used in at least one of the sauces (can't remember which one). The green sauce has the freshest pepper taste and it blew me away! The service was excellent until it came time to get the bill, we had to wait an eternity to get the damn bill. I would zing this place a half star for the long wait for the bill but since Yelp has not incorporated the much needed half star, I will just give 5 stars because 4 stars does no justice for the amazing food and mostly great service.

It's been about a year since I came to Solazo. Was there 8/2/14 Wow! The prices went up drastically and the service downhill. The portions are smaller. HALF basket of chips, NO freshly cut limes, NO carrots, cauliflower, peppers on table like before. I ordered 3 gorditas and it was more like a tostada, it was very crunchy and not sealed like a gordita is supposed to be, everything was falling off. It wasn't very busy around 12PM. The waitress came to our table to take our order, another came to bring our order and that's the last time I seen a waitress come to our table, no one came back to see if we needed anything else. I would always recommend this restaurant to coworkers/family/friends and as of yesterday I won't be doing so.

if you know me, you know this is the ONLY Mexican restaurant i will EVER go to, since the day they opened! I used to live 5 minutes away & had it 2-3x a week, however since moving back north 4 years ago, its down to min. once a week. (I swear I've tried convincing the owner to open one around my way for the longest! Lol) but i don't mind the drive at all! the food = AMAZING! never ceases to amaze me, from the chips and salsa to the DELICIOUS carne en sugo to their pork tacos.. nothing short of AMAZING. Everything on their menu is delicious, point blank.. all seasoned, cooked, & garnished to perfection. Seriously.. I can go on but if you know good food, you know that this is it! =)

I think it's funny how all the reviews about the waitresses being all over men are from women. Oh women how you love to hate on each other. Last time I checked waitressing consisted on the majority of your money coming from tips. If tomorrow your jobs pay structure was changed to something similar you bet your ass you'd be doing the same. On top of that who works there and how they look has absolutely nothing to do with the food. As far as that goes the food itself is always consistent. Of course it's gone up in price I can't think of any Mexican restaurant in the vicinity who still has the same prices they did 5 years ago. The only downfall I can think this place has is the parking and its size. But that's not something you can help. Good food, good service, open late.

  • Eduardo A.

I drive here from Aurora all the time. In fact, I'll be going back tonight. This place is just too good and I couldn't come up with enough good things to say about it. I'm surprised it doesn't have more reviews or a whole 5 stars. Every time I come I get tortas el solazo de asada or carnitas. Sometimes I even order two and one to go. I think I was lost in life until I found this restaurant. And that's only the best part, the chips and salsa, the atmosphere and the attractive waitresses are the cherry on top! Can't wait to get my fix tonight!

  • Saul U.

Over priced food and small quantity & food very salty. I don't see why this place gets to much hype. Also when I ordered over the phone was given a price and when I got there was charged higher. I could of left the place but I had ordered for family. Don't recommend.

Meh. It is like a Mexican hooters, hooters is okay though, the waitresses are all over the men that go in there. It is obvious and sad. Burritos and enchiladas are good. Fajitas are good, we ( four people ) got food poising from eating the fajitas. Took me a while to get over it and go back. They said, oh I am sorry and walked away like nothing. It is always packed, but I go for pick-up. Tortas had gotten smaller. It is like your only eating bread. The put less meat in there tacos than before, but I still go. Like I said, only for burritos. They're my to go place for tacos. Great hours!

  • Jesus S.

This place is overwhelmingly filled with a young crowd looking enjoy themselves on rich food and SEXY Waitress to top that off :) Its almost like a Mexican hooters with less cleavage that's how I like to put it. Prices have gone up and portions have went down but who the hell cares, the place is still good.If your looking for late night bite Solazo is the place to go

Stopped by this place a couple of nights ago with friends. It was pretty packed at 2 in the morning so we order a few tacos to go. I was surprised at how quickly we got our food considering how busy the place was. Overall the food was OK. The meat did not taste very seasoned and the tortillas tasted a bit dry. Not the worst tacos I've had but I've definitely had better. I'm going to write it off as a rush job due to the crowd and the staff wanting to get us in and out. Hopefully the food will be better during a dine-in experience.

Great food! Meat is seasoned perfectly, and cooked to perfection. The steak tacos always come out so moist and juicy. I've never had a bad experience here. The wait is not usually too bad, I only wish there was more room to wait in the colder months.

Any place that is open late and sells potato flautas is A-OKAY in my book. So happy their food is delicious. Do you know how difficult it is for me to find a mexican restaurant that sells faultas other than chicken or beef, I've been on the hunt for good potato flautas for the longest and my quest is finally over!

I tried Solazo for the first time on 4/24 and it was very busy! It was Thursday around 8:30pm and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table! The food was really great! We ordered a parillas with both seafood and meat, although it was a bit oily I would go back and have it again! My taste buds were dancing in joy because it was delicious and the service was got was good, too! So yay! I'm a fan!

My husband and I used to frequent El Solazo a lot last summer and liked it a lot. We were addicted to their Al Pastor everything...tacos, burritos, etc. For a while there it was bad we had to restrain ourselves from going there so often. I am sure you are wondering so why the one star? Well bear with me and I will get to it. So, what did the trick last summer was towards the end something changed and the Al Pastor taste/flavor started to decline. So, we thought we probably over did it and spaced out our visits. Recently, we ordered the Carne Asada tacos and torta and it was very good! However, we also ordered Al Pastor tacos and at first we thought they didn't give us the correct tacos because they didn't taste like Al Pastor- AT ALL. So, the next time we ordered the Al Pastor tacos and well whatever they gave us previously was in fact their "Al Pastor." It was quite tragic- it resembled more like old carnitas with sauce. This is why I give it the one star. I think its bad when the meat you order doesn't even faintly resemble what it is supposed to be. Good Al Pastor is not always easy to come by. Not sure what is going on over there- if they got rid of the cook who made the good Al Pastor?

  • Abigail T.

I went around 2 AM last Sat because it was the only place opened at that time. The food was ok. I ordered tacos al pastor, cheese, and a tostada. The al pastor tacos didn't taste like al pastor I usually get from other Mexican restaurants. The cheese taco and ceviche tostada were good. Don't order coffee, because it doesn't taste like coffee. It's terrible. Their service is awful. Waitress took our order, brought our food and never came back. The place wasn't busy at all. I will only recommend this place if you can't find a place opened after midnight.

This place! Very amazing food. I used to go since it open because I attended the high school behind it. Great food as I said. The only problem is that the waitresses were very rude especially to woman customers. They usually flirt and smile at the men. I went like 2 weeks ago and it seems like theirs new waitresses. Perhaps the owners or managers found out about it. This place is always busy! No matter if it's in the am or pm. ESPECIALLY on weekends. So you might have to wait unless it's to go then if suggest call and order. Also one of the best restaurants to be open late. They close like at 3am I believe on weekends.

I love this place, the food is great. I had the carne asada dinner which comes with beans, nopales, rice, 4 grill onions and. Your choice of tortillas.(14.99) they give you a decent amount of carne asada which taste amazing very tender great flavor. My only concern is that they are Increasing the prices way to high and minimizing the portions too much. Service is amazing very attentive

had the pleasure of dining in this great restaurant. The food was delicious. I had a steak a la tampiquena and my colleagues had various plates (shrimp, tacos, etc). Everything was delicious. I wish the place was a little bigger since the wait time can be pretty long. The service by our server was spot on. Lourdes was extremely pleasant and courteous. I'll definitely recommend this place and look forward to visiting again soon. alex

Ehh the food was average, I've been here on two different occasions and the food has just been ok. The service is mediocre, waitresses are not very proffesional. Perk, oppened late.

Yuck yuck yuck! Worst Mexican food I've ever had!! Their tacos tastes like nothing but grease and the salsa had mold growing inside!! The only good thing they have is that they offer patio seating during the summer and their limes seem to be fresh.

The service was horrible, waited 15 min just for menus. The waitress tossed paper plates on the table. Cochinita pibil was doused in grease... Will NOT return.

They refused to fulfill a simple special order like a shrimp burrito even though I was willing to pay the extra cost in order to get what I wanted. It struck me as odd given that their menu looked to have various dishes that incorporated shrimp. When I asked the young lady why they couldn't fulfill my request the answer was muddled and unclear because her head was slightly tilted downward. I asked why again and she said, "We just won't be able to." You'd have thought I asked them to reinvent the wheel. I was there a total of 2-3 minutes and walked out. I've asked for the same specialty order in nearby restaurants and they've always said yes, but that it'd be extra which is fine. The problem was that none of them were open at nearly 3am that morning. Oh well, I now know to never visit their establishment again and I'll gladly take my business and money elsewhere.

I went in to order a Cary-out order of 4 tacos and it took the close to 40 minutes for them to hand me my food . Good food but horrible service

The food here is excellent from the chips n salsa to the steak fajitas. The service was a little slow but otherwise a great experience.

The food was good, we had everything from tacos, enchiladas, sopes, tres leches cake, flan and more. But... IMO the restaurant was very crowded, (quick service), very loud, and not very clean. Our table was actually right outside the bathroom, which really grossed me out. If I was ever to return, it would be for takeout only.

I went there on a Saturday just before closing. Tried a burrito, since I heard of it from friends. It was good until my girlfriend and I got food poisoning. Took us a few days to recover. Not sure if ordering the food before closing "coincidently" got us sick. But we'll never come back. Eat at your own risk.

Omg! The tacos are so fresh, cooked to perfection and so tasty los de carne asada, alpastor y tripitas! Yummy in my tummy. My nephew loves the TRIO fajitas (seafood, chicken and steak) as he says "oh yeah baby, so good" LOL The service is fast and although the place is small, as you entered you are always greeted with a smile advise you of the time wait for seating. The prices are a-OK.

I recently catered from "El Solazo" for my aunt's surprise birthday party and let me say food was amazing. I ordered/catered for 50 ppl and everyone had a second serving some even a third. The chicken and steak fajitas were cooked to perfection, very big and juicy pieces. The black refried beans were also great. Their rice, salsa, and the salad tasted very fresh. I placed the order just a few days before the party and accomodated me very well. Great service much more affordable than your "other" Mexican restaurants. I highly recommend this place.

I used to come here all the time but stopped in the last 3 months. The food just doesn't taste the same anymore. I'm not sure if they switched cooks or are buying crappier meat? It's a shame because it used to be the best taco place in the area. Now the tacos al pastor are way too salty and the meat cuts are too big..the tortillas too thick. Not what it onces was.

Great tacos, great service! This is a perfect choice, if your out and about and feel like having a late night bite. Very convenient hours, they are open until 3am on the weekends, until midnight on weekdays.

I eat here at least 3 times a month. I usually have a shredded beef tostada and a cesina taco. The shredded beef is outstanding and seems to have stewed forever. The marinated steak is a always tender. The service is great and I make it a point to visit once a week if I can.

I love this place! I don't live in the area, so I usually only drop by when I head to Costco. Tacos are only $1.69. Cheese, avocado, and sour cream are an additional 10 cents each. My favorite are the cesina (marinated steak) and the lengua (tongue). Their chicharron is decent, I prefer the ones from Paco's Tacos. The picadillo is pretty boring. Gorditas de papas are a nice surprise. It's hard to find tacos/enchiladas/burritos/gorditas.. anything stuffed with potatoes outside of Latino street fests! The chips are good and the salsa taste fresh. There's a big container of pickled jalapeno, cauliflower, garlic, and carrots on every table. The special man friend was all over it, so I will assume that it's delicious.

Generous 3 Stars.... I went last Saturday and they did not have corn tortillas!!! Are you kidding me!!! There is like 20 supermarkets on the same block!!! They could not go and buy a few packets. I thought this was ridiculous I will never go again. The food is average to good way too many things on the menu. Stay way from stews Pozole or Menudo nowhere near fresh. It tasted like they save it in the freezer and reheat it when needed. Sopes and Tacos are good. Tortas beware they are heavy on the salt. Mine was way to salty. If I have an option it will not be El Solazo....

I'm a fan of their chicken tacos, I really don't care to much for the steak tacos. I usaully go very often and the staff is very nice. Nice and clean. Also their poloze is very good!

Where do I even start with this place, great mexican food and horchata. If you are an horchata fan, you would love their rice water. I usually go with the gorditas or tortas, they are amazing. The place is not over-pricey, and with the small space it usually get packed quickily. That is the downside, I hate waiting so I see them needing to expand soon. As for the service, there are some servers who are awesome and others who could use some help. But that is how it is everywhere you go. But believe this food is great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or after having a couple to many drinks!

Ok I came to eat at this place because I just recently moved to the area and I tell you the service here is not good at all. Me and my buddy ordered two carne asada dinners when we got our order we never got the tortillas with it. We waited almost 10 minutes to see if the waitress would bring them and she did not I had to ask another waitress to bring our tortillas. Also it is very unprofessional for the waitresses to be taking orders and be on their cell phones at the same time I have never seen that anywhere else. I will never go back to this establishment !

I'm being very nice with the three stars.... Pro:This place has some of the most amazing Mexican food I have had in Chicago. The prices are great and the open hours are great on the weekends as well. However, the place is small so if you want to sit, you will be waiting a long time. Con: The service is lacking. I have never been this upset about service. Usually if it's bad I chop it up to the people having a bad day, however I have had bad service every single time I have gone. I never complain about service becuase I've done this kind of work before, but their service is ridiculous! I have stood there for 20 minutes before anyone said anything to me and they were standing in front me. One of them kept giving me dirty looks but I didn't do or say anything to her, my boyfriend noticed it and so did my other friends I was with. One of them sat a guy and his friend becuase he was flirting with her. I was there before they were, and there was two of us as well. Another girl sat two people at a table for 6 when there was a family of 5 right next to me. This has happened to me every single time I have gone there, and most people that I know have stop going there for the same reasons. Asking for take-out is a hassle as well. I went there to get take-out and I stood there for 15 mintutes before one of them asked who was ordering take out and then proceeded to talk to her friend after I told her I did. I know they want young attractive girls working there, but lack of system is enough for me not to go back. I dont know if it's thier work ethic or maybe they're just shy, but it's not worth it!

Thing to try here is the Fajitas, what makes it stand out is the convenient layout & clean colorful enviroment. I must note though, the food was good when it first opened but now they're slacking off a bit.

I wouldn't even give them 1 star! Today, i had lunch and found ants in my fountain drink then my friend was having her enchiladas and found hair! And I'm not talking about long human hair...this is soooooo disgusting! Not tolerable AT ALL!!!

Try the pollo adobado! Very good alternative to beef or pork. I have just found out this place is also open super late. They close shop at 2am. Perfect place for a late night torta after a night out.

Folks, I'd give this place ten stars. Here's why... You've been to a millions Mexican restaurants, but this place is different. The langostinos are the best in the city. Spicier, fresher, and waayyy bigger than those other two Nayarit chains. And they're just made better. Not thrown together and slammed on a plate. They're superb. I dream about these suckers. Try the guacamole... It's spicy and perfectly seasoned. The Pozole is excellent, as is the menudo. And the parrillada.... Wow... Should be in its own food group. Get the El Solazo version of this and you'll love it. Has seafood and a huge pile of the most succulent, perfectly seasoned chicken, steak, pork chops, chorizo, and costillas. All that with a load of onions and other vegs with the an amazing marinade. Every time I've had this, I've loved it and I've never been disappointed. Even right after you sit down, the homemade salsa and chips will take care of you until your food arrives. The place is clean and bathrooms are fine. I've never waited more than a few minutes for a server or a table (unless the place is packed, which it is sometimes, and then the wait is long... But the place is packed for a reason). I've never eaten outside because I'm usually there after midnight, diving head first into my langostinos. But I'd like to check that out. Every girl on the floor is kind and polite. Even the cashiers. I met the owner, and this guy really cares about the food he's making. He tries new dishes often, and his standards are excellent. If you've been here and had anything wrong with your food, tell him and I'm sure he'd fix it. He cares. We take a long ride to get to El Solazo from the burbs, but I wouldn't go anywhere else for these amazing dishes. Skip the chains and street-meat taco stands and try this place! You won't be disappointed.

This is one of my favorite taco places in Chicago. My other fav is Zaca Tacos. El Solazo has great vegi burritos and some dang good pork tacos. The place is a bit small so it can be crowded. They do have an outside area that is open in the summer. Staff is very attentive and checks in regularly to see if you need anything. Only big downfall is no liquor license and parking can be a pain. Street parking is best.

Only had the nachos from this place and they were pretty good. The pork and steak(yes pork and steak on nachos, yours truly is quite the carnivore) were lean, cooked perfectly, and tasty. The chips were fresh and they used shredded cheese, a plus for me. The green salsa was quite good too and not overly spicy. What really impressed me was how fresh and delicious the guacamole was, and they were very generous with it. From my experience, whenever you ask for guacamole on nachos they tend to be shady with it. Based on nachos alone, this place gets a thumbs up from me.

This place has great traditional Mexican fast food. The new outdoor seating is very welcome since it's a rarity on the south side. As a northsider, I've been spoiled with al fresco seating. The food is not always exceptional, but definitely good-enough to keep you coming back.

This place has decent tacos and solid overall food but to be more specific the Tacos De Lengua ( a personal fav) and the Tacos de Tripitas (beef tripe) are the only tacos I eat here because everything else Taco wise is ok. The real stars though are the burritos, which are well stuffed with lettuce, tomatoes, beans, avocado, and the meat of your choice which in my case is Lengua!!! ( yeah I am obsessed lol) but they are delicious! The Tortas are really good as well, filled with the meat to the top and everything is carefully placed not like in some lesser tier taquerias that are reckless with bean distribution along with the meat but in El Solazo it's pretty well done. OK but here is another little tidbit which well get all the males excited: This joint turns into a quasi Hooters and Tilt a Kilt (minus any touchy touchy and please don't do that) where the waitresses dress in either sexy Halloween costumes or as naughty Christmas girls all of this of course is depending on the time of season and it is sadly for one week or so but still pretty cool and it adds a lot of life to a pretty small place, so if you are eating there during a "dress up" be respectful because if not there are always cops eating here so play nice. Overall this is a pretty good place although I would not be a reviewer without sharing some slight issues with this place (yeah I can be a little douche). 1. The Carne Asada is really average here. 2. There is a soda machine but no free refills? WTF? 3. On weekends be forewarned it can get really cramped. 4. Cops do get special treatment here and while that is not really a negative (hey it is what it is) but last time I was there they took up the entire back row of seats in the restaurant which stuffed up the joint. That's it in terms negativity but nevertheless check this place out for some good eats and the occasional erotic delights lol the filtering system on yelp is biased man

This place is my new favorite neighborhood taco place. Love the tacos de asada, but dont take them to go, the grease makes the tortillas soggy. If you go for dinner, definitely try to Carne an su jugo it is to die for!! It is also great for a hangover...Thanks Solazo for putting Los Comales to shame with your larger selection, tastier food, and lower prices :)

By far the best tacos in the city. I like their tacos I do have to say that I haven't try anything else, but when it comes to tacos their the best. I like that they are open late and 24 hrs. During the weekend.

I have driven past El Solazo everyday for while since its on my way to work but never stopped and eaten there. But after my first time a month ago I stop by once a week at least and now invite coworkers too who like the place. Good food, service and atmosphere.

Ordered take out from here today... chilaquiles were good. I tasted the gorditas and they were Ok, not great. Service was fast. In this neighborhood, I have to say Zacatacos is where to go for Mexican.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
