This is a good little spot for lunch during the work week. It's buffet food so you know it's not going to be fine dining. On the buffet is items such as salsa, veggies, salads including egg salad, fruit, cheese, pasta salad, fried shrimp, mashed potatoes, potatoes, teriyaki chicken, rice, turkey stuffing, pastas, They do have a salad bar plus a decent selection of healthy items like roasted cauliflower which is delicious and then not so healthy items like mac and cheese which was not very great. They have soups and a grill with sandwiches like burgers (haven't tried any of these).

I really gave this place a chance but its not worth it and there are better places to spend your culinary dollars. First of all the breakfast they have eggs in a steamer and they are always cold. I understand sometimes places make mistakes, so I brought this to the owners attention that the eggs were cold thinking that this issue would be corrected on my next visit but I was mistaken, the next visit or the next 3 visits, same cold eggs. To me this means the owner doesn't care about his food. Overall the food at lunch is lukewarm and over salty and dry. Ording at the grill will get you a hot meal but other then the grill, nothing to see here, move along, buffet bad, kinda like Old Country Buffet bad.

I literally only eat here when I'm feeling anti-social, and by the looks of the back room (a dozen or so tables occupied only by people dining alone with books or cell phones) I'm not the only one who feels that way. It's a good buffet. Lots of health-conscious options; plenty of comfort food choices. You can get a massive and pretty tasty salad for about $5. Super fast lunch option if you're in a hurry.

Food by the pound. Breakfast and lunch. Variety of hot foods ranging from meatloaf, salmon, lo mein, rice, mashed potatoes, green beans, sausage, teriyaki chicken, grilled chicken, shrimp tempura, ribs, vegetables. They do have a nice salad bar, but a lot of their salad bar items are drenched in oil, cheese, or something mayonnaise-based. If you're looking strictly for a salad bar with more options, trek over to Mac Kellys. They also have 2 piping hot cauldrons of soup ready to pour into foam to-go containers. Lastly they have a grill area where they serve burgers, gyros, fries and possibly other menu items. This review is for lunch food by the pound only. Not the greatest, or healthiest but is consistently just ok. I visit on those few occasions where I can't decide what to eat for lunch.

This buffet is in my building so it's pure convenience when I don't have much time and I need to get a breather from Jimmy Johns (which is very rare). All the food is fresh and they have a large variety that fulfill anyone's taste. Usually I go here when I want to eat healthier and get all of the veggies. Everything is cooked well and actually seasoned. They are a little more expensive, but that is kind of in your control, as they price by weight. So when I feel like a fatty and load up, I pay for it. The buffet itself is clean, but I can not say the same for the dining area. Usually always messy, with crap all over the floors, tables not wiped down, it's kinda gross. Advice, get it to go and eat it back at your office or over at Daley if it's nice out.

    (3)
  • Sara P.

The food is very meh--underseasoned, limp, lukewarm and somewhat crusty from being under heat lamps. Surprisingly expensive if you are not careful about how much you take. It feels very much like a cafeteria. You can spend a comparable amount of money on much better food in the area.

  • Angelica C.

I love that it's a $6.39/lb buffet for those days where I can't decide what I really want to eat. It is clean and well labeled. However, the food isn't exactly to the temperature I like my hot foods at, so by the time I walk back to my office, I do need to reheat it a min or two. I personally liked their crusted chicken, ribs, lasagna, Idaho mashed potatoes, and chicken wings. Avoid the "beef" grayish colored meatloaf.

    (3)
  • LaTush N.

The bar food is disgusting. On numerous of occasions I found the food was either spoiled or undercooked. They have combos but don't offer a drink with it. The cooks are very rude and the prices are way to much. This place doesn't even deserve a star. Awful

Feeling indecisive with where to take your lunch? Delmonico can solve that. There are two buffet sections, hot and cold. On the hot side, entrees include teriyaki chicken, grilled chicken, fried chicken, sesame chicken, spring rolls, fried shrimp, fried frog legs, fried catfish, string beans, mushrooms, sweet potato, corn, fried rice, and stir fried noodles. On the other hand, the cold side includes appetizers, salad, sushi, fruits, and dessert. Doesn't this sound like one of those AYCE Chinese buffets? The difference is Delmonico charges $6.39 per pound. You can limit the cost by being conscious of how you pile your plate. In addition to the buffet sections, there is also a fast food stand for the guilty eaters. Their menu includes burgers, gyros, grilled cheese, and French fries. It's a very unhealthy yet economical choice as most of them seem to fall within $5. Our trio stuck with the buffet option and the total came out to $27. We were stuffed and pleased.

oh so good, i love buffets and everything here was good, i tried crab meat, popcorn shrimp, shrimp tempura, corn, noodles, italian sausage, it was all great and i was so full, and all only like $11! i need to be careful about coming here or else i going to get fat lol

  • Thomas H.

You get what you pay for. That's Delmonico It's a buffet with a variety of foods from chicken wings to fish to sushi and other american and chinese fair. It's not the greatest quality food, but it's quick and easy. It's also good value for the buck. I come here a few times a month. Not for everybody, but if you're wanting to be a baller on a budget for lunch in the loop, this is a good stop.

Well.... this place is was chosen by my coworkers for lunch. There's not too much to be said about it. It's bad food in a buffet by the lb. I was pretty hung over and thought this may help out.... not so much. A wide variety of food but none of it very good. It's hidden back between buildings like some sort of tuck away hidden place. Should remain hidden and not found. My coworkers would likely be sore at me for this but I can't say much about this place beyond skip it. Cross the street to the Chase building and go to their cafeteria.... if you want cafeteria food it's a better choice.

  • Brooke B.

Delmonico is a hidden gem downtown that is a great choice for those wandering about with a budget in mind, but no clue what they want for lunch. A fresh salad bar with fruits and veggies, different types of cold salads...many of which switch out daily, sits at one side. The other contains a hot bar, with everything from fresh green beans sauteed in garlic, to pad thai noodles to chicken wings and more. Again, items change daily, so you potentially could never get sick of this place. Not hitting the spot yet?? Well, there's also two fresh soup choices and a deli/sandwich counter where you can get burgers and sandwiches as well. For any appetite, big or small (a pound is right around $6.50) and those indecisive about lunch, this place is a sure spot. There's something for everyone!

This place is a little hard to find but it was my go to during my summer internship at the Daley Center. It was easy to run in and grab what ever I wanted quickly. The variety is excellent so one could eat super healthy (fruit, lean chicken, salad greens) or super bad (mashed potatoes, turkey, gravy). The pricing is by weight which helped me with portion control (and wallet control). It's a pretty good place for what it is.

    (4)
  • Aaron N.

Delmonico is an average at best buffet. I mean I was starving when I came here for lunch, so it did the job. Would I take a girl on a date here? No. Who am I kidding? I probably would, but you shouldn't. There was a good variety of food and it's definitely a good bang for your buck place. Overall it was an ok place. I will probably come back to this lunch spot if I'm looking for a change up from the standard places downtown, but will I be a Delmonico regular? Probably not.

    (3)
  • Martin B.

I really like this place, because you can choose from so many selections. What you see is what you get, so I'm puzzled by the negative reviews from some people. It also is a great place for people watching, as the clientele comes from City Hall, the County Building and the Daley Center, so it's full of judges and officials as well as the other office workers who come here. Someone else described it as a hidden gem, and I have to agree.

I can be wooed with a really good burger. Yea, alright, it takes more than that to woo me, but that is a great place to start. One of the custodial guys at my office building recommended this place when I asked where was there a good place to get a good burger for lunch in the area. On my first go, I just missed it because they closed at 2pm and I was taking a late lunch. But I went during regular lunch time today to catch em. When you walk in, you'll notice it's like Mac & Kelly's with the salad bar/buffet except better selections and a grill to order from. I ordered me up a deluxe cheeseburger which came with coleslaw, a pickle and fries. I got it with everything (passed on coleslaw) which is basically ketchup, mustard, lettuce, onions, and whole mess of mayo. I'm going to skip the mayo next time. Ok to what you really want to know. . . .that burger was mighty yummy. Best burger I've ever had? Of course not. Best short order burger I've ever had? I believe so. I straight murdered that burger it was so good. Done just right, still juicy. It was gone in a flash. The fries were soooooooooo good. Better than McDonald's. I wouldn't even lie about that. I have deemed this the Great On-the-go Burger of The Loop. Therefore, I must stay far away from it lest I become morbidly obese. Once every couple months won't hurt right?

  • Tara M.

I love this place. Finally, a takeout food place that has plenty of options for those of us who are gluten and grain-free. Not everything revolves around bread, pasta, or processed stuff likely to be made with gluten here (although those things are definitely present here too). I just came back with a container of Italian sausage, cole slaw made with just oil and vinegar (no mayo), and lightly sauteed mushrooms. And a small side of fruit for dessert. Always been happy with the quality of the food, too.

  • Bill M.

This buffet restaurant is tucked away in a mazelike ground floor area of an older office building near City Hall, but during the noon hour the place is packed with area office workers. The food is fine if nothing special, and there are a decent number of choices in this buffet. Frankly I will not come here again unless I arrive before or after the peak lunch hour, as I found the rush of getting food while surrounded by swarms of like-minded individuals to be a bit annoying.

    (3)
  • Ashley H.

Love it. This lunch spot is perfectly quick, cheap, and fairly healthy (depending on what you choose to get). When it comes to a midday meal I prefer eating light and healthy. I don't need a lot of flavor, or too many choices because I'll go back to work and fall asleep. Typically I am satisfied at Delmonico when I fill up my clam shell with mixed greens, a tad of mixed beans (black beans, pinto beans, pico de galo, cilantro and lime) a tad of guacamole, and 2-3 strips of grilled chicken (sometimes I substitute the chicken for 2-3 cubes of tofu). I also adore their steamed broccoli and the grilled veggies! Yum. I usually go back to work feeling energized and happy. :D My total is usually around $4-6! This is a steal downtown, considering that your other options are Corner Bakery, Au Bon Pain, Cosi, etc. which is not all that healthy.

I'm always on the lookout for a good salad buffet, so I'm a sucker for an inviting sign. I should have passed this one by. The offerings on the salad bar are pathetic (Jello, potato salad from a box, iceberg lettuce) and the hot buffet is no better. Watch out for extra charges if you "take mainly shrimp" on those items featuring shrimp. But why would you, the shrimp has no taste and in the case of fried shrimp, no shrimp just breading. If you want largely tasteless, flatulence-inducing, greasy fare delivered in a tacky setting and prepared with emphasis on heavy ingredients so as to extract the maximum $ in this pay-by-the-pound format ($5.95), you'll love Delmonico's. Otherwise give it a pass. Drink refills? - forget it. They do have made-to-order sandwiches, but why risk it? "Gourmet"? Give me a break!

  • Amanda D.

Gross, Gross, Gross. My co-workers and I call this place Del-Monster because it is so gross. Sushi...in a buffet? SICK. Worst of all i got sick like WOAH after eating here. Maybe it was the flu, Maybe it was the meat that had gone bad that they serve with a random red sauce and call spaghetti. Either way, i will never go there again.

    (1)
  • Carri A.

Omg are you kidding me?? The "salad bar and buffet" advertising is completely misleading considering that the only salad fixings they had were iceburg lettuce, cheese cubes and three salad dressing choices. NOT my idea of a salad bar. The other food they have is a random assortment of meatloaf, asian and seafood - all of which looked totally disgusting. As a vegetarian it was very difficult for me to find much of a selection to eat. I did get a small side of macaroni and cheese, which was cold and chalky. Both of my friends hated their meals as well. We're not only never coming back here, we've decided to not even speak of it again. Do yourself a favor and walk over to Mac Kelly's on Franklin and Lake - major high quality and healthy food.

Pros: It is in my office building. It is cheap. There is diverse food selection You pay by the pound. It is in my office building. Lines are short and efficient (credit the staff) Cons: Breakfast sandwich sausage is chewy like rubber. Most of the buffet food is very greasy. They do not have soft serve ice cream. Food sometimes is unevenly warm. All in all I probably eat here once a month since I hate waiting in insanely long lines at the rest of the restaurants near me for lunch. It's an average buffet and reminds me of a mini Old Country Buffet. A-OK.

    (3)
  • Suzanne P.

Meh. This place is just ok. Conveniently located in my office building, it's an easy go-to buffet to pick up a quick and cheap lunch. I've never really been exceedingly pleased with the food, but it's never been terrible. I love making salads at buffets and this place just doesn't have a whole ton of options in terms of fresh ingredients. It does, however, have really good bad Chinese food. And as a sushi lover, I kind of enjoy their attempt at a California roll, even though there is nothing really special (or even authentic) about it. The staff cracks me up because even at the height of the lunch hour you never have to wait more than 2 minutes in line. It's incredibly fast. If you're looking for a quality meal, then this is not the place to spend your lunch hour. But, if you need something easy and fast, give it a try!

They have an excellent sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich that I use to have when I worked in this building.

I don't have much to add to the previsou entries. My boss has worked downtown at the James R Thompson Center for YEARS and suggested that I try this place if I wanted a cheap fast lunch that was close to the office. It was raining, so I took his advice. It's not easy to find, first of all. If the Burnham Center were Earth, DelMonico would be in the molten magma core. Ok, that metaphor sucked, but it is tucked away inside the center of the building. You walk in and are faced with a choice; go right, and you have greasy comfort food, cafeteria style. Go left, you have a salad bar. Go straight, and you have a made to order sandwich counter. I chose the comfort food, because I spied one of my favorite dishes- Corned Beef & Cabbage. This one also had carrots. I was wary to tr it, because heat lamps are not food's friend, especially soggy vegetables and meat, but what can I say- I'm dangerous. Food: I got back to my desk and dug in. It needed salt and pepper, but once I got that taken care of, I was pretty pleased. The cabbage and carrots had a nice broth-y (word?) flavor, and the meat was pretty tender. Some pieces were so-so, but hey, it's not St. Patrick's Day, so I'll take what I can get. Price: I got a relatively large portion for $6.52 w/ tax. Not terrible, but more than I was expecting. I guess I loaded up on the cheaper veggies- something to be aware of next time. There will probably be a next time. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, but since it was closer to three than 4, so there you have it.

The pay by pound gets expensive and the food reminds me of dorm food. (Turkey with Stuffing is good but kinda greasy). But I like the sandwiches that you can get made at the Deli.

    (3)
  • Katty D.

I work in this building so it is a convenient place to grab a quick bite. For breakfast they have scrambled eggs, bacon and other things on the buffet line. However, my favorite thing to get after a long thursday night leading into Friday morning is a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. Fatty? yes. Incredible? Definitely. During lunch, they have a salad and a hot food bar. Depending on how hungry you are, you can spend 3 bucks or 11. I've seen people eat the equivalent to Thanksgiving meals here, I personally come here for a $3 salad.

    (3)
  • Ellie B.

Dear Delmonico, Thank you for providing me easy access to gooey scrambled eggs and greasy potatoes when my hangover is almost too much to bear. I really wish that you would have more of a breakfast selection. Where are the biscuits and gravy, WHERE? How my hangover craves that delectable treat. But alas, you won't help me out. Maybe someday I'll come visit you for lunch. But until then, we'll always have breakfast. Yours, EB P.S. Why do you have some of the lunch items out when I come in at 7:45am? That makes me kind of nervous about taking our relationship to the next step. By the time I get to you at lunch, how many people have taken their turn with you? HOW MANY? Maybe you aren't as fresh as I'd like to believe you are.

  • Diane P.

This is my go to place. It's right in my building and I can eat a big green salad with lots of crisp vegetables and get tasty hot sides (e.g. mushrooms, green beans). I can also get roasted chicken and other lean meats. Basically what I am saying is that I can eat healthy whenever I want and I can have a selection too. There are plenty of comfort foods too on the days I need them! I love this place.

    (5)
  • Alex F.

Delmonico boasts all of the benefits of a buffet and suffers from all of the drawbacks of a buffet. That's because it's a buffet. You know what buffets are like. That's what you should expect.

  • Kara M.

a buffet spot with a huge variety of food from typical Asian (teriyaki chicken, rice, lo mein, etc) to a salad bar and homestyle food like mashed potatoes and meatloaf. and they even have some sushi....a hodge podge of food if you will....tons of seating and no wait make this place a plus among some of the busier lunchtime spots that are in the area....the food isn't great but i mean it's not a 5 star sit down kind of place...it's decent and cheap with no fuss. i liked everything i had put into my little box, enough to go twice in a week...solid 3.5 but yelp doesn't have half stars so i'll give it a 3

  • James S.

If Garden Village were ever to shut down Delmonico would definitely be a good safety. Went to the sandwich bar which was basic turkey sandwich on wheat, could have made it at home, but then a cup of soup on the side. Oh yeah. Chicken gumbo was really good, lots of the goods, goods being chicken and vegetables. Also a side of cole slaw, not so good, don't recommend, but the best part came when I checked out, $5.39, hey-oh. I can't remember the last time I had a lunch that cheap especially for a sandwich and soup. I never recommend buffets for cost and health reasons but my buddy was all about it and ended up spending $10, so I guess sometimes you eat the buffet and sometimes the buffet eats you.

  • Andrew T.

Purely as a breakfast review, the food is fine, just not much variety. Fruits are ample, but otherwise, it's just fr. toast, eggs, eggs with peppers and tomatoes, sausage and potatoes. Unimpressed b/c I love variety but the price is good too. 3.99/lb. Okay for quick fixes, most people lined up in the back for made-to-order.

This is BY FAR my favorite lunch place in the loop! Buffet with hot and cold bars--fresh mango, sushi, chicken salad, all the way to comfort food mac & cheese, sesame chicken, etc. Couldn't live without it!

A great pay by the pound place in the city for hot food, cafeteria style. THe items change and can range anywhere from sushi to ribs. The salad bar is pretty good (but I prefer Mac Kelly's) but for hot food on a cold winter day - great spot to hit up

My co-worker and I went here based on what I had read on Yelp (thanks everyone!). As promised, this place is great. Definitely not fancy or gourmet, but a solid option if you're craving salad bar items. In addition, they have a hot bar buffet, which looked promising, but I didn't get anything from there. My co-worker had a turkey sandwich which she said was good.
