This used to be THE place to be when I was younger. I used to order an m&m blizzard. However, this place has gone to hell. The staff there keeps the place dirty. There are practically no clean tables, and the floor is sticky. We have never returned since the employees had a terrible work ethic, and kept the kitchen area dirty. We have found other ice cream places that serve creamier ice cream with a much better sense of hygiene and customer service. However, despite the complaints, it is a popular spot during the summer to get a dipped ice cream cone since it is near Portage Park, and by a bus stop. I am giving it one star simply because it honestly is not a hygienic place, and because the employees are too busy being slow with orders, or are distracted. I know there are other places to get ice cream in the area that would taste better and that would be much cleaner. As for the savory food, I have always been too scared to try it there, so I have no idea.

So as we approach the counter no one was their so I said hellooo then look around I seen two girl standing in the drive thru looking at me like I was crazy. So the young lady came from the back somewhere took my order. So as we wait for the ice cream they young lady in the drive thru has her head phones and her cell phone in her hands.(so unprofessional) then one of the young ladies that was standing by the drive thru earlier decided that she better do some work and came in the lobby to empty the trash cans. I know this is a ice cream shop and mostly young people work here but where do you start learning how to be professional at a work place. It doesn't matter if it's an ice cream place or president of an bank you should always be professional.

Childhood favorite, brings back the best memories from baseball games in the summer. I still can't believe I could woof down a Peanut Buster Parfait in its entirety. Service great, packed with families and kids making new memories. The employees looked as if they were having a blast, laughing, joking. Not the cleanest facility but it matters not.

We go here all the time for our ice cream and blizzards. The staff messed up our order on our last visit. I told them what they messed up on and she looked and talked to me like I did something wrong. I'm not a fan of being charged for whip cream and nuts that they automatically put on and don't tell you about the extra charge (I noticed bc I looked at my receipt & compared prices).

DO NOT ORDER FOOD FROM THIS RESTAURANT. Yuck. Ordered a burger, tasted sour and freezer burnt - I spit it out after first bite. They don't wear gloves preparing their food! The Heinz ketchup packets were black. The manager of this establishment is unsympathetic to the negative feedback about the food she is serving and simply said to me "I'm sorry that's how you feel...." Trust me on this one- zero stars for this place. Unclean. Dept of Heath needed here. Badly. No joke.

Have to repeat at window . 4 girls bunch up in the small space . Chunky hispanic girl hands us ice cream . I get my ice cream see that it looked like the machine just threw it up. So, requested for a re-do! The chunky hispanic by the way was the same girl who took our order , rolled her eyes to the back of her head looked likee she was convulsing! Mean while, the caucasian girl is complainkng cursing because shet had to make a new cone with MF this B that. Mind you , customers are in the establishment. Like, really! Anyways, they just laughed as we pulled off . Horrible horrible horrible customer service. If you can' t get it right at a part time small job I feel sorry for you when you work full time and have a career! Forever YOGURT, is our new family icet cream spot .

This was an awesome experience. I was excited to locate the dairy queen. Icecream was really good. The meals were great. Its children friendly and the staff were decent. I find it comical that the food was more expensive than the icecream creations, but hey, everything tasted great.

Who doesn't love a blizzard (or some other DQ concoction) on a summer night?? The staff here tries to move as quickly as possible to keep the line moving and get you served. However, you can expect an insanely long drive-thru line of cars on a nice warm summer evening. I've waited close to an hour in that line of cars (from the time I first enter the line to the moment I'm pulling out with my ice cream). It's crazy! I think you're beter off going inside sometimes. Of course, then you come across the problem of having to find parking. Not easy... walk if you can.

This location is pretty good,I can't really complain because during the summer it was obviously very busy..I do hate the way their parking lot is set up..it is so dumb and incredibly easy to have an accident. They can get really busy,and the drive thru line might even go out as far as on Irving park which can be a pretty busy street. Other than that,the service is pretty good and I loooove their double fudge chocolate chip cookie dough blizzard :))

Extremely irritated. We usually just put up with the sucky service, since the next nearest DQ near us is in Park Ridge. However today was the straw that broke the camels back. Got charged $70 instead of $7 and all I got in return was an apology, a delay in refund, and melty ice cream. We won't be returning to this DQ.

Went here on a super hot, super busy night. The line for the drive-thru and the inside were ridiculously long, but hey, it was a good night for ice cream. The staff was super nice and friendly, even though they were out of a lot. The grill was supposed to close at 9:30 PM, but stayed open for anyone (like me) that desired a cheeseburger. Food and ice cream came out as soon as possible, and they apologized for the wait. All around good visit, even if it was busy! I've been to this Dairy Queen before, and I would have to say my only complaint is the tiny parking lot.

I love their food, really. This is the only Dairy Queen 'Brazier' (don't think they use the term any more, but it means they have regular food, not just ice cream) within reasonable driving distance. I don't use the drive-thru, cuz what I eat is WAAYYY too messy to eat in the car: chili cheeseburgers, yum. They looked at me a lil crazy the first time I ordered one, but quickly relented. It's a cheeseburger, plain, except with chili on it. Simple. Yes, the counter-chicks here are a little....dull? No big deal to me, it's not like they aren't everywhere else. As long as they aren't outwardly rude or spit in my food, I don't care. On the inside, I've never had a problem with the service, except maybe that they're a little slow, but not so bad. I will agree with Curt S. about the grill closing early.....I got here at 9:30 one night (I think they close at 11) and it was already operating in ice cream-only mode, in the middle of winter, it's not like they were busy. And I had taken the bus specifically to get my burger and fries. Very irritating, minus one star for that, but lesson learned.

The food comes up a little slow, and everyone behind the counter looks like their mother just died. Of course, past all that, the ice cream creations here are top notch. Never had a bad blizzard. I always get cravings for this place over the summer. Looking forward to that. My other minor complaints about this place, they don't play any music. I would take muzak over the silence. Also, the door leading into the drive-thru, brilliant. I'd like to do a study about how many kids get hit over the summer.

This Dairy Queen (forced here because of the demise of Toots) on Irving Park Road is simply D list. If you want to manuver through the most atrociously designed parking lot, then get inside to stand in line for 20 minutes for a dip cone, then be my guest. The three times I've been in there they've a) run out of vanilla (isn't that supposed to be your core product), b) had the most apathetic employees I've ever seen, and c) neglected to clean the place in ages. That's D list - and not delicious.

It's Diary Queen. I mean my standards aren't that high to begin with.....but the teenagers that work there (I swear none are even 21) are apathetic at best. They are usually slow, and often get the order wrong. That being said...I love their buffalo chicken strips (nice and spicy) and of course their ice cream treats are great. Just watch it since last time we ordered the chicken strips and two cheeseburgers and ended up with just the strips until we *inquired* about the burgers, and then ended up with two DOUBLE cheeseburgers. I'm glad we live within walking distance because in the summer the lines at the drive-thru are LONG as hell. And watch out if you use the drive-thru that you don't hit the people coming in and out of the restaurant. One of the worst parking lot/drive thru layouts ever!

Dairy Queen is like the soft serve emporium of Chicago. Shakes, cones, and of course the Blizzards. This place is so unhealthy it's sickening but I just can't get enough of the creamy, smooth, delicious soft serve. My newest addiction is the Banana Cream Pie Blizzard. They even put whip cream on top. I'm not sure there's actually any dairy in the whip cream. Hell, I'm not even sure there's any dairy in the entire restaurant. Faux dairy never tasted so sweet.

I usually love Dairy Queen. But everytime I want to grab a bite to eat there that is not icecream I always get denied because its an HOUR before they close and they "turned off the grills". Lazy, and pathetic. That doesn't mean Dairy Queen isn't a great place all around to get icecream... just don't expect to get some real food when you really want it. That's okay though, if you're craving burgers and whatnot - Mc. Donald's is right next door. :)

This is my Dairy Queen. I live within walking distance, and end up here more than I should. As far as Dairy Queens in general, I like them- I'm a peanut buster. Here's what's special about this DQ: 1. The high school kids who work here. They absolutely have no system in terms of taking orders, making ice cream treats, putting the $ in the cash register. Do not come here expecting a well oiled machine. Expect it to be crowded, and despite all the practice the kids get running the place, they'll still struggle to get your order together. I REALLY have to fight to control the grumpy old German man in me and remember that they're a bunch of kids with a crappy job- give 'em a break. 2. Extra fudge. Unlike at most DQs, when I order "extra hot fudge" on my order here I get zero attitude or hassle. The girl just drops the extra fudge charge onto my bill and there's no issue. It's incredible how often I've dealt with some prick DQ worker at other DQs who can't seem to handle pushing the extra fudge button on the cash register- never a problem here. 3. I once rode my bike here and when I came out to eat my ice cream, a praying fucking mantis was sitting on my bike seat! I stared at that thing for like 5 minutes- all the while it kept its two giant eyes on me. Finally it flew out into the middle of Irving Pk Rd & landed right on the line that divides east/west like it knew how to cross the street! That was cool.

I love this Dairy Queen. A major reason why my marriage may not work is because my fiance does not understand why this Dairy Queen is awesome. I want a Georgia Mud Fudge blizzard. They retired it, but will still make it for you if you ask. That's superior customer service.

I second what Mark S. said. The kids who work here just cannot get it together. About 90% of the time, my order is wrong, or they just cannot hear me through that ridiculously dilapidated microphone/speaker thing in the drive-through. I almost always come very close to running over some small children with my car when leaving, since the entry/exit to the building is RIGHT in front of where you leave the drive through, and the people who "hang around" at this DQ do NOT have an eye on their children. However, Mark S. was also right in saying that they will not give you a hard time about your order. Want 5 ingredients in your Blizzard? You bet. Want nothing but caramel, and lots of it, on your banana split? No problem. My biggest complaint? THEY DON'T TAKE CREDIT CARDS! It's 2007. Come ON now. I think it's safe to say that I would go there at LEAST twice as often as I already do if they accepted credit cards. Sometimes I want a quick ice cream treat, but I don't have cash. They need to get with the times, in more ways than one.

I've always loved Dairy Queen's ice cream creations, but an extra "bonus" was the BBQ Beef Sandwich which was served at the now-defunct Howard/Ridge location. (I'm not sure if they have it at Southport.) Junk food heaven! The meat and sauce soak beautifully into the soft white bun and who cares about the calories? If the Southport store has it I may raise the rating to 5 stars!

About 90% of the time, my order is wrong, or they just cannot hear me through that ridiculously dilapidated microphone/speaker thing in the drive-through. I almost always come very close to running over some small children with my car when leaving, since the entry/exit to the building is RIGHT in front of where you leave the drive through, and the people who "hang around" at this DQ do NOT have an eye on their children. However, Mark S. was also right in saying that they will not give you a hard time about your order. Want 5 ingredients in your Blizzard? You bet. Want nothing but caramel, and lots of it, on your banana split? No problem. My biggest complaint? THEY DON'T TAKE CREDIT CARDS! It's 2007. Come ON now. I think it's safe to say that I would go there at LEAST twice as often as I already do if they accepted credit cards. Sometimes I want a quick ice cream treat, but I don't have cash. They need to get with the times, in more ways than one.

this place really sux the service is terrible and super slow ,, it was good years ago when it was run buy americans the burgers were as good as the ice cream ,, now its run buy rude asian people with no personality that are desperate for ur money !!! the orders are always wrong ,, ice cream is ice cream how hard is tht to serve at a reasonable time not twenty minutes lol lol !!! no thnx never again !!

Recently went through the drive through to get a blizzard, dipped cone and a caramel shake. Pretty fast considering the line, and the workers that evening, were nice and efficient. Still a good place...just hit or miss on the workers I guess.

Oh, Dairy Queen - how all the fond memories of my childhood come up when I go here...they've definately grown up with the times - they still serve my Mr.Misty but the Blizzard has grown to all these different tastes such as Oreo and Heath Cheesecake and Strawberry Cheesecake!

Five stars for the summer ice cream memories. We always use the drive through right before closing and get us some hot fuge sundaes. Tasty! McDonalds is next door and cheaper, but I like DQ better.

I've always loved Dairy Queen's ice cream creations, but an extra "bonus" was the BBQ Beef Sandwich which was served at the now-defunct Howard/Ridge location. (I'm not sure if they have it at Southport.) Junk food heaven! The meat and sauce soak beautifully into the soft white bun and who cares about the calories? If the Southport store has it I may raise the rating to 5 stars!
