Came here for lunch with a friend from the area and was very satisfied. Got a soup/sandwich combo, the Uptown Turkey and the Baked Potato soup. The sandwich was excellent. The bread was better than your average whole grain, the avocado was mashed up nicely so there were huge, overwhelming slices, and the bacon was thick and seemed to have been freshly cooked. The soup was great, very hearty, with the perfect amount of bacon and potato chunks. My meal also came with a bag of chips and a pickle. I left the meal feeling full, and very satisfied. My only complaint is that I asked for no tomatoes on my sandwich and they forgot to take them off, and that the sandwich (because of the avocado and the wet turkey) had some difficulty staying together. My meal cost $9.71, and it was well worth it. Would absolutely recommend and come back again.

We found this place by chance while looking for another restaurant that turned out to be closed since it was a Sunday visit. We took it as a good sign that there was a long line inside and plentiful seating because of the cold/rainy day that it was. We stepped in and the menu was brief but got to the key goods. They had the key breakfast staples (pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc) and then also some "healthier" options like breakfast wraps, oatmeal, and scramblers. I ordered the Anaheim breakfast panini which had eggs, bacon, avocado, and a tomato/onion mixture with cheddar cheese on sourdough bread. It was pretty good, although it was a little "soft" on the outside where they put some butter on the flattop but just didn't grill it long enough. That didn't stop me though, it tasted wonderful and was a perfect breakfast to keep me going that day. My man had the pancake breakfast with eggs and bacon and, because I always have to try his food too, tasted wonderful. The pancakes were huge, fluffy, and were cooked very well. The eggs and bacon were just as you'd expect, which isn't a bad thing. We sat and chatted for a while since it was a rainy day out, which we felt comfortable doing as it seemed like the spot to just hang, other people around us were studying, meeting, or just enjoying the day like we were!

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Fast, fresh, DELISH! It reminds me so much of Panera. Almost identical menu and set up. I ordered the pesto chicken grilled sandwich the southwest chicken grilled sandwich and a slice of lemon pound cake. I always say you can truly judge an eatery based on their cake. I liked all three items I ordered. The sandwiches were fresh and the ingredients were fresh as well. My only complaint was that the chicken felt a little processed , but hey its deli right? Most deli meats are processed. At any rate, the pesto chicken was spectacular. So was the southwest but I enjoyed the pesto a little better. The pound cake was AMAZING. Dense, delicious, buttery, and lemony. Exactly the way a pound cake should taste. No store bought taste at all. overall good experience.

The Anaheim panini was tasty but very small in size. The sourdough bread was good but a bit hard (maybe because it was too early when we ordered) The order of side potatoes was tasty and the cinnamon creamy cake was delicious. But if you are very hungry and is looking for something to fill you up this might not be the place.

I tried the new Southwest salad-Romaine, slaw mix, quinoa and black beans, cucumbers, corn and tomato salsa, pickled jalapenos and tortilla strips with avocado ranch dressing -I added chicken to mine and it was quite delicious. I also got some cookies, a toffee and a chocolate chip. The cookies were pretty tasty. I really liked the toffee cookie. I've been missing out on these cookies as I usually get the cakes or rugelach. This place usually gets it right.

Food was great and arrived promptly. A little high in price for the style in my opinion but the portions were decent.

I got serviced as soon as I walked in and was greeted with a smile! The breakfast panini was absolutely amazing! You can tell they used quality ingredients the bacon was juicy and tasteful! The coffee could have been better but I guess that was my only complaint!

This kitchen never gets my order mods right. And these aren't modifications I create from the depths of my most creative capabilities; these are options on their online ordering screen. Cheese Sauce or Pesto Cream? Pesto cream, please. Do they give me pesto cream? No, of course not. This same mistake happened twice. Once during lunch rush and once during dinner lull. I didn't say cream pasta was the straw that broke the camel's back. And management owned up and took care of the situation with a gift certificate. The panini sandwiches are sorely lacking in the cheese department. This not only creates a flavor miss, but also a poorly constructed sandwich. The veggies in my Californian Grill just fell out. I often order the chopped salad. Sometimes it's fantastic and full of everything it's supposed to be full of. Other times it's just sad pile of iceberg with a few chopped salad component afterthoughts. Corner Bakery's inconsistencies and mistakes always disappointme --that is, until I take a bite of their maple pecan bar or whoopie pie. Yum! Nothing inconsistent or flawed about those. :)

The counter lady was very sweet and help me decide on the beat tuna salad I have ever had. The ciabbatta was so fresh and tasty and their truffle hot chocolate. .so smooth and delicious! ! Globe was on my way to another place but so glad I stoped here.

Kids love it! Foods are fresh and the service is great. I ordered a pasta and didn't like the topping. They replaced it without saying anything.

I have to write a quick review/note to seriously praise one of the employees working at this Corner Bakery Cafe on 3/30/15 around 2 PM. My mom came into town for a visit, and being from a small town Chicago is a bit overwhelming for her. We stopped by this Corner Bakery Cafe for a quick bite before heading to the Art Institute, and the guy working here (oh how I wish I had gotten his name!) went absolutely out of his way to be friendly, helpful, and courteous to us. He recognized my mom was a tourist (with her loud Southern accent, anyone within a one-block radius can tell) and instead of being irritated he made an extra effort to brighten her day. Whoever you are, THANK YOU! You really gave my mom a great impression of the city and Chicagoans and made our entire afternoon so much more pleasant.

Nicely situated on the corner by the Palmer House and defintely a nice breakfast option. Ordered two DC Chicken Salad sandwiches and two large lemonades. After a hot-hot day watching the triathletes and skipping breakfast, this combo never tasted so good, but I think it's because we were mad hungry, hot and wanted to rest. Sandwiches were ok. The bread was different. Lemonades were wam in the "chilled" case, but I got some ice to go with the ginormous cups. Nice option close to our hotel and when we were in desperate need for some food.

Food is just ok and overpriced for the quality. Ordered a salad and was missing about three of the main ingredients.

The ladies that work here are awesome. They greeted me with positive energy and was nice to me. The food was good, however, there is always room for improvement.

This is my favorite Corner Bakery downtown, consistently good food and service. I ate here close to two years while working in the area and the staff treated me like family, I was in here all the time, almost all recognized me and some even knew my name, I didn't even have to give my name when I ordered. Always good and fresh food. They did their best to get people served when they were slammed. Mighty Leaf tea, steel cut oatmeal with brown sugar, power thin breakfast panini (apple sausage), soups, California panini, coffee, all great. Money well spent here, am a loyal fan.

Ordered a breakfast sandwich, two others order sandwiches five minutes after I do, they get theirs I have to complain to the very rude manager after 10-12 mins of waiting. Rude, unfriendly service and stupid slow!

Ordered one of the fruitier salads for lunch, and the portion was quite large, such that I actually had trouble finishing it. It came with a lot of fruits and greens, although I found the taste to be a bit saturating--too much added sugar for my taste. Very quick if you need to grab and go though.

I previously given three stars because the restaurant uses plastic paper plates and utensils with no recycling. I'm updating to 4 because I've been informed that it's a temporary thing :)

  • Fernando B.

Now this is a chain restaurant, so it gets the average four star, nothing really disappointed me, however, nothing impressed me. Everything was simply average and how it was "supposed to be." I had a turkey panini, and my lady had the chicken panini. Good sandwiches. I wish I knew the names of the sandwiches, but I obviously forgot. Umm.. I had freshly squeezed lemonade and she had a smoothie. Both just GOOD. Employees were nice enough. Sorry guys. No carpe diem here.

Annoyed. Ordered a DC Chicken Salad sandwich to go. Grabbed my bag and left. When I got back to my office, the sandwich looked like someone had picked up the box and shaken it. Sandwich was NOT put together well! And to top it off, they forgot my chips!

Restaurant is clean with someone constantly restocking coffee bar supplies and napkins. Great place for breakfast. Food is awesome and cheap. Servers deliver to the table and will get anything you need even though this is an order at the counter place.

My husband and I were visiting Chicago and noticed one of these on every corner. We referred to it as the "Panera of Chicago". Needed a quick breakfast on our last day in the city and stopped in. Inexpensive, good size helpings and a nice selection of breakfast items on the menu beyond just the usual pastries. It was a Sunday morning at a little after 8am, and we couldn't find a table for the two of us; had to sit at a high top counter rail. Coffee was just-so, they seriously could make it better considering that's one of the main things people would stop here for. Bagel was rubbery and not good, but I guess that's not a strength either. Overall, a cheap breakfast with a good selection, but certainly nothing special. Don't go out of your way.

So I noticed quite a few of these places throughout Chicago, and as I was staying at the Palmer House, I thought it would make for a good place to get a plate of basic breakfast on a Saturday AM. The set up is simple: order, pay and take your buzzer to your seat, and your food will be delivered. Prices are reasonable, so this is a pretty good set up. Drinks are fountain / serve yourself, which really makes this place feel like "fast food" for breakfast... I'm not sure how I feel about that overall, yet. However, my food arrived and the eggs were piping hot, but the bacon and potatoes were ice cold. The staff were very understanding and replaced my plate with a new hot hot hot one very quickly, but this really coloured my experience. Additionally, ketchup and hot sauce (or other condiments) can be requested to the server who delivers your meal, but my server never came back with the requested items. A bit of a miss here. Clearly these locations are successful, and if I were in a pinch, I might come again, but I'll be on the lookout for other breakfast options in the area next time.

Food was tasty..staff was friendly. Mac and cheese was awesome! Exceeded expecations for a chain cafe in the heart of downtown Chicago.

Great place to stop and grab a sandwich or a salad if you in the area, especially for a conference at the Palmer House. However, this place is no Panera, which has set the bar VERY HIGH and the Corner Bakery just cannot compete. The bakery selection is average, but the sandwich selection is very good and reminds me of an Einstein Brothers.

Wow! What friendly, outgoing staff! I was greeted by a busier while standing in line, the cashier had a huge smile on her face and the person who brought out my food brought out a new fork as soon as she heard mine clatter on the floor. Someone else checked on me a few minutes later and when I finished my meal they grabbed my plate quickly. My order of Mac & Cheese with bacon and tomatoes was tasty, just a little watery for my tastes. The mini bundt cake had a nice crust on the bottom. And my Oreo frappe was more coffee and not as much sweet. Overall this was an excellent first meal experience for my first time in Chicago.

I decided today to begin a quest for the best breakfast sandwich in the loop. They vary so widely! This review is for Corner Bakery's bacon and egg breakfast panini- I ordered one to go for lunch today (bonus points- I love it when restaurants serve breakfast all day!) and this sandwich rates: 7.5 out of 10! When I unwrapped the tin foil-encased sandwich at my office, I was crestfallen- I picked up the sandwich and immediately noticed the decidedly un-crunchy bread, kind of like it had spent a few seconds in the panini griller, just enough to make a few lines, but not really to toast the bread. Other than that, it was delicious! 2+eggs, cheese and obviously high quality applewood bacon- no crappy bacon here. It wasn't terribly hot by the time it got to my office, but that's ok. At $4.74, it's a good way to start this quest. Next!

Slow and greasy! No, that is no way going to morph into some type of hooker reference, it's just my description of my breakfast sandwich experience at Corner Bakery Cafe. Now before the haters start hating (because they always do), I admit I did get a bacon, egg and cheese panini which I will stipulate generally contains a lot of grease but there was so much grease on this, I half expected Rizzo and the Pink Ladies to burst from the kitchen singing poorly written songs! The bread was literally dripping with grease and in this case, grease was most definitely NOT the word I wanted to hear.* And it took forever for me to get the food. By the time I got it, I felt like a 34 year old high school senior...sort of like Stockard Channing in "Grease". The cinnamon danish was large but it was kind of hard. No double entendres there, keep it moving folks. It was just a stale danish. I'm adding an additional star because it actually is located on a corner, and I appreciate things that are aptly named. ____________________________________________ *Like Frankie Valli says, Grease is the word youtu.be/v1V7EwR5w2A

Excellent for a chain. Breakfast offerings are good, atmosphere is nice and energizing in the morning. Coffee is very good. Oatmeal is just a touch sweet for me, but I'm not an added sugar person. Pastries are decent, but I've lived in France, so that's all I can usually say.

5 stars for a chain restaurant?! Yep, i just did that! But my experience here was basically as good as it can be. My last day in Chicago and i wanted to grab some grub before leaving for the airport. This place is right next to the Palmer House, where i was staying. I walk in and was immediately greeted. I was explained that even though it was 12:30pm, they serve breakfast all day long. I decided to get the french toast and coffee. While i waited for the food, the staff made sure i was comfortable. The food arrived within 10 minutes and the server was very warm and friendly. Something that's hard to find in a place where you prepay for food. The french toast came with a side of eggs and sausage and were so freaking good! It was a quick meal and a visit but one that was satisfying and that's what made it great. I'll be sure to go back for those french toast next time i'm in Chicago.

I wish I could give them 0 stars. Their salad ingredients are old and frozen, there is nothing fresh about it.

I tried this place today. I ordered a bowl of chili and iced tea. I wanted it on take out The order taker proceeds to put dine in on the receipt. After 10 Minutes it dawn on them that I had not receive my lunch. I told them again I wanted this on take out. I am then sent to wait in another area of the restaurant. I explained to a employee that I told the order taker that I wanted the lunch to take off. She must have misunderstood. So the employee tried to solve the problem however a bitchy cook did not want to do my order because it said dine in. and she was doing take out orders. She as long as she could to get order and then proceeded to argue with the other employee over my order. This is the first and will probably the last time I will bother eating @ this place. I do not appreciate drama and Bullshit being made over my order. If I want drama I will watch Law and Order in T.V Corner Bakery You SUCK!

Good service here at this location. The food an coffee are consistent with other chain type placed but the employees at this specific location are above and beyond what I am used to coming across at midlevel places downtown. Two thumbs up for the employees and managers here

Typically I don't write reviews for chain restaurants but I decided to do so for a couple of reasons: First, since I moved from OC Ca to Stockbridge Ga, I have developed a new appreciation for some food places I considered to be average before (like Corner bakery). I miss Corner bakery, and indeed, it is grades above Panera. The second reason I write this is to comment on the great service. My croissant tasted stale, so when I asked someone (probably the manager) whether it was last day's she said no and convinced me to give me another one (initially I said no that's not a big deal but she said she didn't want me to be unhappy). She warmed it up and it tasted much better and fluffier than the first one. If you go there for breakfast I highly recommend their oatmeal, especially the swiss chilled oatmeal. They all come with these delicious raisin crisps. Yummm!

Great spot for a quick breakfast... The hubby and I stopped by on a weekday right before 11am. We decided to grab a quick breakfast before a day of shopping. We both very much enjoyed the eggs with chicken sausage -- it was quite tasty. If you plan to dine in, don't forget to get your ketchup and your jam --situated by the coffee section :) We might very well make this a breakfast ritual when we visit downtown earlier in the day...

I am staying at the Palmer House on business and have discovered this is an excellent place for my morning coffee fix. They'll let me fill my big travel mug for $1.64 tax included, compared to god knows what inside the hotel, and let me sit and use the wireless while i wake up. I haven't tried the food but there are lots of regulars who seem happy with their orders for "oatmeal with everything but sugar" and "side bacon, side hardboiled egg" which are ordered at a counter then brought out by a friendly server. Only negative is they don't open till 6:30 am.

3.5 stars Much better than Panera! I wish they had these in Jersey. The wait was a little longer than I had expected, but they offer so much more. I ordered the Avocado & Spinach Power Panini Thin (avocado and spinach, freshly scrambled eggs, Parmesan and cheddar cheeses on thinly sliced whole grain harvest toast). Light, filling, and tasty.

This convenient corner bakery offers a delightful selection of soups, salads and sandwiches. The dark interior provides cool relief on a hot summer day and cozy warmth in the winter. I tried the chopped chef's salad: a tasty blend of chicken, bacon, blue cheese and green onion. One small complaint: just a tad too much vinaigrette. Other than that... Delish! The bakery offers free wifi, coffee and breakfast. The service is fast and efficient. A healthy alternative to greasy fast food in the bustling downtown.

I was in Chicago for a week and went to Corner Bakery twice out of convenience as it was right next to my hotel. The only gripe I had was the wait time, but I've come to expect that from a cafe that was bustling with customers both times I went. The setting was nice and comfy and outdoor seating was perfectly fine, especially since the weather was so beautiful :) I got a power panini for breakfast the first time and found it to be absolutely perfect for me. I don't like to eat too much in the morning so this small sized (and cheap at $3!) sandwich really hit the spot. The salsa it came with was also really yummy! The second time I got a half panini half salad combo. Decently priced but I think I liked the power panini more :P Overall, it's a nice spot to go to though I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. There are plenty more places to enjoy good eats in the windy city! :)

Staying at the Palmer House, I didn't feel the need to pay the prices they wanted for breakfast, so I found this place which is almost literally next door. Ate here twice for breakfast. The prices are good, and the food itself is good. However, both days by the time we got our food, both my wife and I had some food that had gone luke-warm or even cold. They also ran out of coffee and took forever to refill it. The staff were friendly and helpful, though. If I'm at Palmer House again, I'd go back here for breakfast for sure, though.

  • Jamison E.

I love this place. I stay at the Palmer House for a couple of days every other month and eat here every morning. I am obsessed with their oatmeal with cranberry, banana and honey with the biscotti/toast thing. I have a craving for it even now as I write this. I have never eaten lunch or dinner here so I don't know about those food items....yet. The staff is nice. There is usually a big breakfast crowd and the drink order station does get backed up so keep that in mind if you are in a hurry or running late for work!

Corner Bakery always gets the job done for me. I'm in Chicago pretty often and it's become my go-to place for a good lunch at a reasonable price. The sandwiches are great, but I think they really shine when it comes to the salads. For my last five visits or so I've been hooked on the chopped salad. One of the few salads that actually fills me up. There's plenty of bacon in every bite with nice big chunks of avocado. And when, if ever, has crumbled blue cheese been a bad idea. You could easily eat half of it and feel satisfied, but it's so good why even bother. Staff is always great. Very patient at the register and are very courteous when readying a table or addressing any questions you have. Wish we had one in Milwaukee!

  • M W.

Mac and cheese is pretty decent for a chain . I appreciated that hot sauce was readily available for an extra kick. The portion was more than generous, and even my hefty appetite wasn't a match. It's a shame they don't make smaller portions. And it even came with bread! I split a maple pecan bar with my mother, and it was quite delicious.

Free Wi-Fi WHOO HOO!!! Next to the Palmer House Hilton I would go to the Corner bakery for breakfast or lunch (the trio of salads) and work. The Soups are good, the salads are good and the bread is VERY good. The free Wi-Fi is a big plus in my book!

As a rule when I go downtown I don't actually like to go to chain restaurants, but sometimes when I'm in a rush, Corner Bakery is a must. That rhymed (!!!!!!!). I really like corner bakery; their sandwiches are more than decent- although, like I said, I tend to prefer a local restaurant over one that has about 50 alone in downtown Chicago. I usually go with the half sandwich, half salad combo. I love the grilled vegetable panini and the balsamic vinaigrette is pretty darn good. If I'm feeling a little rebellious (towards my diet), I might also enjoy one of their plentiful bakery items. Overall, a great ***chain restaurant that if it wasn't a franchise, I would like even more. PS IT IS SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN PANERA

Very clean & comfortable, friendly prompt service. There are quite a few of these conveniently located all over the city. We ate here for breakfast several times over a 2 week period & were never disappointed good coffee, very quick service, not a four star restaurant in the classic definition, but the food is good. Try the oven baked French toast!!!

absolutely disgusting. now, when i come to a chain restaurant i expect that the food is probably frozen and premade BUT after ordering my salad with NO chicken and it arriving to me with a few cold lumps of slimy chicken at the bottom of the salad on two separate occasions i can only assume this: all the salads are premade with the chicken thrown in there and when they receive an order for a salad with no chicken they just attempt to pick it out before serving it. what if i was a vegetarian? obviously there are no standards or care for health regulations here and I wouldnt be surprised if they give people food poisoning regularly.

My wife and I needed breakfast and wanted to get out of the cold so we tried this spot. I had grilled egg and bacon panini and she had scrambled eggs and bacon. Both were excellent as was the hot chocolate. The vanilla latte very average and as my wife opened it to let it cool down, she spilled it. Two members of staff came and before they even cleaned it up they asked if she was ok. That made us both feel really good about the people working here. The staff is probably the nicest I've ever had and the food was great too. If you're looking for breakfast, this is the place to go.

Good for 2 of 3 days. The chocolate muffins are very good and the sesame bagels are good toasted. The last day everything was out and what we did get was old and stale. OK to grab a quick bagel, etc before you jet out for the day.

Stopped here for a late breakfast with my husband before heading over to The Art Institute last Wednesday. I usually go to the 444 N. Michigan location, but the Monroe St location was just as good. My husband had a ham & swiss sandwich, I had the swiss almond berry oatmeal. Tasty, tasty, tasty! Oh, did I mention tasty? I love that they have breakfast all day, not just in the mornings. Staff were friendly and service was speedy, especially considering how busy it was inside the cafe. Will be back for sure.

This place is the pits. I've eaten here a million times as I work on this block and it's really convenient. I can say the staff here is great, professional, pleasant, and helpful. The food however is pure crap. No exaggeration, every salad I've ever ordered here had spoiled greens in it. I'm not talking about a little wilted arugula, I'm talking dark green slime that once was a fresh vegetable. I understand that happens now and then but every goddamn time?! They were lucky to have preyed upon me on days I was too busy to go elsewhere or torrential downpours. NEVERMORE. I'll eat dry wall before I step foot in one of these again. if you are in need of good salad, check out macy's 7th floor 2 blocks north of this dump.

Either the manager / store owner has their act together or they hit the lottery on employees. I've eaten a number of Corner Bakery locations and this one is tops. Usually consistent and good, however the employees at this location make it awesome. Everyone is polite, smiling, and attentive! I stayed at the Palmer House Hilton for a week and chose to eat at this spot 5 times, simply because the quality and consistency. Huge shout out to the employees at this location.

I walked in for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon and right from the door the staff was rude. I opened the door and got yelled at like an idiot or i doing something wrong. He said "this is the waiter's door, you go through the other one", even though there was no sign or feeling it was a service door or anything other than the front door to the establishment. He was very rude and exasperated and left me feeling very offput for going into any restaurant. I go in and immediately tell the manager what happened and then she got an attitude with me and didnt offer to make me feel better about the situation at all. When my crappy meatball sandwich came, the same rude server brought my food out and THREW the plate in front of me and called me a "m-f'er" in Spanish. I speak Spanish fluently. I'm never coming back to this bootleg Panera again. I will say the register lady was nice. Food was meh. Service and professionalism was a zero.

Came here for the 1st time for Lunch... Out of all the places in the city not sure why we came to Corner Bakery... Well because it was there and we were hungry. The staff was pretty nice, the food ehhh! I have defiantly had better. I ordered the half Club Panini and a cup of Chicken Noodle soup. The soup was good. The panini... not so much! One slice of turkey and one slice of bacon and 2 slices of cheese... All I tasted was cheese. It was like a grilled cheese sandwich. Next time I think I'll just pass Corner Bakery.

Average place to get breakfast. My wife and I really enjoyed the raspberry bar and the banana muffin was among the best I ever hard. I had a power panini thin bacon which was tasty, but I think the cheese was too sharp and overpowered the sandwich. Coffee and latte were good. Would definitely come back.

I came to this particular Corner Bakery after a pleasant excursion to the Art Institute. Not only was the place dirty, but the food and service was lacking. My boyfriend ordered the chicken salad sandwich, which barely contained any ingredients and soggy bread. I ordered the panini combo (the panini itself was alright...other than that I got cheddar broccoli soup which was "eh" and they gave me like three potato chips to go with it, what the heck). Chicago is already darn expensive as it is, and I was kind of irritated I paid over $11 for such an unsatisfactory meal. Go here only if you're extremely desperate for something while out and about in the Loop, but honestly, try finding somewhere a little more unique (and cleaner...and with faster service) if you can.

I love this place! I ate there every day while I was staying in downtown Chicago. I really like their prices, the place is pleasant and convenient and the outdoor seating area is great. The food is healthy and delicious, which helps balance their wonderful, decadent desserts, haha! What I really like is the fact that they provide calorie counts! Thank you so much, Corner Bakery, for doing this. As a person who places a high priority on maintaining a healthy weight, I truly appreciate this. Oh, and free Wi-Fi, to boot!

I've been going here on and off for two year because it's right across the street from my office. When I first started patronizing this establishment, the food was pretty consistently decent, prompting me to grab lunch or a coffee here a few times a week. About six months in, Corner Bakery changed on me, taking advantage of the goodwill and mutual respect we had built together. Now, I go back once every three months, or however long it takes for the last mediocre experience to fade from memory. Recent (in the past year) experiences that come to mind: - Today's hot chai was apparently not made to its regular strength, as it tastes more like steamed milk with a dash of cinnamon - Second most recent chai was half full. If I wanted a small, I would have ordered one. - Stale croissant at 9am (you have "bakery" in your name. A complaint about this actually netted me $10 in gift certificates, which took me several months to use. When you're hesitant to eat FREE food because it's probably going to suck, that's a bad sign). - Missing items, such as the tortilla chips from the chicken tortilla soup or tomatoes on a BLT. These items are in the name, so there shouldn't be any confusion about their inclusion. - being sold a "roll" (a 1 by 3 inch strip of ciabatta bread) for $1.69 If the food wasn't so expensive, I wouldn't mind as much, but it is insanity for me to continue to go here and pay so much for such mediocre food. Maybe this review will serve as a reminder for me to stop punishing myself. After all, a perfectly good Au Bon Pain is right around the corner.

I highly recommend the Sweet Spinach Salad from this location. They give you extra cheese and dressing without asking, and are very generous with the fruit. I've gotten this same salad at other Corner Bakery's and they do not come close to this location. Whenever I'm in the area, I stop in and get one to go!

This was my first visit to a Corner Bakery. Very positive experience. I like the decor--very Chicago Loop class. The coffee was delicious. There were four varieties. Although the cost of coffee is over $2 with tax, you get free refills, all you want. So it's actually pretty cheap if you're a big coffee drinker. The bussing staff was vigilant and very friendly, obviously a guy with ambition in the industry and that made the place a little bit more edgy, and appreciatedly so.

WAY better breakfast sandwiches than lunch sandwiches. Lunch from there is "meh" at best. But they know how to make a delish brekkie sammy and muffins. The OJ is addicting. Their chopped salad is good, too. Tons of fresh stuff. That's about all.

I'm a Corner Bakery fan. Favorite is their Mini Banana Bundt Cake. I stopped by this location tonight and had their Turkey Monterrey Sandwich with the Lemon Chicken Orzo soup. Very, very good and highly recommended. Service at this location was great and look forward to stopping in again in the near future.

It takes a lot of sloppiness for me to review a chain. Especially one that's dependably mediocre. But having ordered the exact same breakfast (bagel, sliced and toasted) and lunch (salad trio) here, and at another Corner Bakery down the street, the difference is obvious: Prelude: I say "hi" to the cashier. But I should have heeded the lasers that shot back out from her eyes. Clearly it was a warning to run away. But like a fool, I stayed and ordered lunch. Salad Trio Sloppy. There's that word again. One hopes it never applies to salad. Hey! What do you get for dumping a "fruit medley", "greek salad" and "edamame mix" into a large, flimsy plastic container? You get raw onions on top of cantalope, drenched in dressing, while feta seeps out the sides. Edamame bobbing with strawberries in their collective juices. Greens stuck together by someone's heavy-handed glop of dressing. Fruity, greek, asian- breaking down the barriers with all kinds of mingling fluids. I could go on, but it was, in short, very gross. This could have been avoided (and WAS avoided) at the OTHER corner bakery by simply putting everything into their own bowls. You know, as advertised? Bagel Here: not fluffy. Not warm. Not even sliced, and forget about toasting. All could be overlooked, but the bagel was stale. For a multigrain bagel to be yesterday's bagel at 8:30 am, I wonder just how low the turnover rate must be. In short, no redeeming qualities at all.

They have Mighty Leaf tea. How can I complain? I met a friend for an early morning breakfast. I was tired, groggy and barely awake. The the sight of pumpkin muffins, chocolate muffins and croissants made my eyes open WIDE. The staff is very nice, and they open at 6:30am during the week. This is a good place to start your morning before heading to the office or a pick me up while holiday shopping on State Street. Nutritional information for those who are watching what they eat... but I warn you, it's not pretty!!

Not one of the better Corner Bakeries. I do like the downstairs seating on a cold winter day when it's not crowded, but with the Palmer House crowd and tourists coming in from Michigan Ave., it's unpredictable whether you'll find a seat or be surrounded by loud, jabbering families and tourists. Having only one drink station upstairs means you have to abandon your food and possessions downstairs if you want a refill (the upstairs seating is hopeless), and an ill-conceived renovation put the drink station in the narrow corridor where take-out customers wait. The quality of the sandwiches is inconsistent. It's possible to have a good lunch here, but the odds are not in your favor.

This is becoming my quick lunch option when I am in the Loop. Fast, friendly, and always clean. Nice combo options for panini and soup.

The baked goods and coffee are good. I am assuming the baked goods are made at some central baking facility and delivered in the early morning to each location. On several consecutive morning visits I have noticed that the staff isn't the friendliest and they seemed burdened when taking your order. I get that it can get busy, but busy is what keeps one employed, no?

Food is decent, but overpriced. Scrambled eggs with 2 sausage links and a waffle that looks like a mini funnel cake for 8 dollars. If you dine in, watch out for their silverware that they give you. My fork had a bad smell. Restaurant has wifi, but at slow 1 Mbps , you can read an article page or 2. Overall they have a basement, so there's room for more people downstairs. Total came to $10.80. Coffee was good.

Cobb Salad ....Fresh and Tasty... My Mom had the Turkey Frisco and side Caesar Salad. She said it was tasty as well. This CB was nothing to brag on but on a hot day in the Loop my salad hit the spot!!

I've worked in the area for 2 yrs and I've never been. So I stopped in yesterday and the girl at the register was very patient with my indecisiveness. So many choices!!!!! I wanted a hot sandwich , so she narrowed my choices down and I got a grilled ham and cheese panini. DEEEELISH! They serve it with a Honey Dijon mustard I'm assuming? Don't quote me but it was the icing on the cake. I left happy. The staff was very attentive. I'll be back.

Very busy but enough seating w more downstairs. Be sure to ask for a token for the restrooms if you need it or you can't get in. Helpful and frienly staff.

This outlet, one of many in the Loop, is wedged into the northeast corner of the Palmer House Hilton right up against the "L" tracks. They have lunch items like sandwiches and salads, but the dessert items like the brownies are very good for a chain.

Slow service even when they weren't overly busy. Got my wife chai tea wrong and gave me the wrong size bowl of fruit. To top it off there was a chunk of tuna salad in the bottom of my bowl. Disgusting.

I hate bakeries like this, where all their yummy good are on display and they all look SO good but then you get one, put it in your mouth and it's like eating soft cardboard. Very disappointed in my cinnamon creme cake slice, it wasn't very moist (as I assume the word creme in the name would mean) or cinnamony. Just bland bland bland. Hubsters small cinnamon almond pastry thing was much better and *warm* which mine was not. (A warm pastry would have come in handy too on this particular 23 degree day) Hubster said coffee was good. Between that and the copius amounts of space in this place, it gets 2 stars.

What irritated me about Chicago - which in my mind would be very like New York but better and not so dreary and mean - was the lack of healthy food options that were reasonably priced. I really missed having corner markets and delis within walking distance of every place I went. NYC has that one figured out - you can get a turkey sandwich, a bagel and some fruit and it's reasonably priced. In Chicago I found this very difficult. My options were limited, fruit was hard to come by and good food, that was simple and healthy, was damn expensive. Wtf mid west? Get it together. So, this was our best option on the way to the museum one day and it's what we ate. I hate chains. I hate bad deli meat. Both of which Corner Bakery is. It is what it is. And that's what I ate. And I wish I'd been able to yelp something in the area that was superior, but I didn't.

I have recently fallen in love with Corner Bakery. I have been there many, many times, but it was not until recently that I was smacked in the face with a new found respect. So why only three stars, you ask? Well, settle down, silly! Give me a second to explain. My new respect came in the form of Swiss oatmeal and corn chowder. A little while back, I went in there almost as soon as I got to work because I was starving. "What's this Swiss oatmeal I see?" I asked myself. "Perhaps I shall give it a try. If it is bad, I shant get it again!" It probably didn't happen exactly like that, but it was close. So I got it. Can anyone say "yummers?!" It was delicious. I have gotten it almost every morning since then. I love it. On top of that, they recently added the corn chowder, which I actually really like. Good job guys. My favorite soup of theirs is the chicken tortilla, but I can only get that on select days. Blast! While I love the aforementioned treats, I think their sandwiches and salads aren't that great for the price, and that is why I only gave three stars. P.S. Did ya like how I got "shant" in there? I thought so.

The food at Corner Bakery has never impressed me. The lunch hour waiting time is a bit longer than I'd like. The prices are higher than I want to pay. The quantity of food is average. They almost always have a good variety, enough to satisfy anyone. They have sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastas. They also offer breakfast foods.

I do like the food items, customer service, hm, I'd have to say so-so, they're not very attentive, however the place does get packed around lunch time when I ever go in. Love the homemade chips! Prices., well, the location speaks for itself. =]

Really similar to Panera's...but better! Wait time for food wasn't too long and food was really good. Butternut bisque...OH so good! All different types of sandwiches, soups, desserts. This is a must try!

This CB drives me nuts!!!! The closest CB to my employment is on Jackson and Wabash, but I stop at this CB when I am doing errands aka shopping along State street and depening on the route I take back the job, I stop at this CB when I need lunch. Well I've been here more than a handful of times during my employment and I swear each time, drives me nuts. I've had it! Service is awful! It takes them forever. I went into today, in a rush, I'm thinking the last time I was in a rush and came here I ordered a hot sandwich and it took them forever, so I figured, "I'll order a cold sandwich today that way they don't have to wait for the panini grill and I'll be in and out."... umm, WRONG. For as long as I waited, you'd think they were plucking the chicken still. I don't get it. The annoying part is, I'm standing there and I can see my sandwich ready to go, yet, the CB worker waited till about 4-5 orders where up and then she started handing them out. I was about ready to go back and just grab the darn sandwich What annoys me more is the CB I go to more often, Jackson & Michigan is WAY more busy and their service is great. So I don't get it. And this CB make sandwiches sloppy. Every sandwich I have gotten from here was made sloppy. So I'm done with this CB. It's annoying.

The people tried to kill me! I stopped by there for breakfast as i was staying in the palmer house hilton next door, ordered some eggs and other breakfast stuff and was looking forward to enjoy my deliciously looking potatoes and eggs for breakfast. Little did i know, in the midst of the oh so scrumptious looking potatoes was a blade! Yes, a freaking blade.. good thing i felt that thing with my fork, otherwise i would be the new owner of Corner Bakery on that corner.. and most likely the whole franchise.. They did try to make it up to me with free food and some coupons and that was fine.... but i would of hated having to pull that blade out of my throat.. so watch what you eat there.. never know whats' in the food..:)

Food=5 Speed=2 Accuracy=4.5 Other then the occasional blunder of using the wrong bread on my ultra picky sandwich I have never had a problem here. I eat two meals a day here. I get oatmeal in the morning and the tomato moz sandwich for lunch. What I startyed to do this week is to order everything in the morning and take it to work so I avoid the lunch rush. Even at 9:30am they are pretty slow at take out orders, but they are always busy so I just make sure to leave myself some extra time.

Nice staff. The steel cut oatmeal was awesome. The breakfast sandwich was just ok and the chicken sandwich was super overpriced. I'd rather go to a non-chain restaurant.

Slow service - a lot of employees were just standing around. When our food finally arrived, only one of our orders was put on the table, even though the other was on the server's tray. I had to chase her down to get it! The food was not hot and tasted like it came out of a can or was freezer burned. No trash cans either at the entrance/exit.
