What happened to this place? I used to come here all the time back in the day.......then recently went back this past Wednesday! First off they have a little "YELP" sticker on the door......which made me remember to review, when I got done. Came here with my brother for lunch since we were in the area. -The Parking lot......SUCKS! How do you fit any cars in that joke of a lot?? Terrible! -What happend to the "COMBO" listings where you get your sandwhich, fries and a drink?? Um, GONE!!! -Everything is "extra".....Extra for Fries, Extra for Drinks......WTF! -My brothers chicken Philly sandwich alone was $7.95 or so, so i knew this wasn't gonna be good! -I got the Italian beef/cheese.......ah, cheese is extra!! bastards!! -Food was good....fries were "ok"......had to hunt down a ketchup bottle all over the place.....and i could tell it was cheap ketchup!!! -can you say PRICEY!!!! italian beef, chicken philly, 2 fries and 2 cokes....and mozzerella sticks.....$27!!!! WHAT???? are you nuts?? I could have spent that money and went to a nice sit down place! -I do see the are open on weekends till 3 or 4am?? hence why i believe they took down their combo specials and can charge all these wrigleyville drunk young punks up the ass for late night food! Won't be coming back! Not the same as back in the day!!

Things I don't like about Clark Street Dog: - No mozzarella - Frozen gyros (not fresh off the spit) - Overpriced compared to similar establishments - Cash only Things I like about Clark Street Dog: - Good (but not best) Chicago-style food - Centipede game, a la Pizza Hut circa 1987 - Parking, albeit limited

Italian Beef with Sausage = The oft forgotten dish served by Clark Street Dog. It was spicy and soaked in au jus. It burned going in...and burned going out. It was a delicious piece of cuisine from a wonderful little dive.

If you're looking for greasy food, this is THE place. Well, maybe not THE place, but it's A place...that will serve you an entire day's worth of calories in one sitting. It's really nothing special, and tends to be a bit dirty, but it's open late, for all you night owls looking for something to soak up the booze, this place will definitely do the trick. Try the cheese fries...yum! (But only if you like the fluorescent cheese thang...I do!) The hot dogs are OK, polishes are OK (super-greasy), and the hamburgers are OK. Nothing truly special or outstanding though. There are a few tables outside for nice days, and there's an Atari video game in there (maybe Centipede?)...if you're so inclined. And really, for "crap" food, it's expensive. might as well go to a McDonald's and buy three double cheeseburgers and a large Coke for $4 plus change...you'd get similar a caloric experience for half the price...

Good local hot dogs, burgers, and more. Period. Whenever I come home from Japan, Thailand, Guam, or wherever the Navy sends me I make it a point to stop here for food once or twice on my brief periods in Chicago. There is nearly always available parking and they are open late.

Unlike a majority of the reviewers here, I've ate here during the light of day! (Not in a drunken stupor at 3 AM. Glad those days are over!) - The Phillies are good and meaty. - The hot dogs are filling and I love pickles. - There's parking here. - They have Centipede (Centipede is a vertically-oriented shoot 'em up arcade game produced by Atari in 1980. The game was designed by Ed Logg along with Dona Bailey, one of the only female game programmers in the industry at this time. [1] It was also the first arcade coin-operated game to have a significant female player base.[2] The player defends against swarms of insects, completing a round after eliminating the centipede that winds down the playing field.)

I will go out of my way to eat here. There is nothing that I love more than a Chicago dog or an authentic Italian Beef. Clark Street Dogs has it all. It's cheap, easy and most importantly....delicious. There are hundreds of joints like it across this fine city but if your in the neighborhood do yourself a favor and make a stop in.

Perfect drunk ass food! People who come here are locals and if you wanna get to feel the lakeview/boystown experience, especially after dark--this is the place to go. I love the food, the combo, the sandwiches ALL!!! TRY IT!

I was in town for a night with a friend. We emerged from the Cubs game, followed by Wrigley town in a less then sober state and wanting food. Then out of the distance there shined a beautiful bright yellow sign. No words were needed, we went in. I know from looking at pictures later that we ordered polish sausage, chili cheese fries and a cheese steak. Somehow beer also made its way to the table from the neighboring bar. i do not remember if the food was actually good, but at the time there was nothing better.

You have to appreciate Clark Dog for what it is. When you walk into a joint with a flashing sign and a sketchy bar attached to it, you don't expect much. This place is the BEST after a night of drinking. Or for those times when you are craving grease so bad you just want to inject it into your veins! The workers probably don't speak much more english than words on the menu, but they are friendly and usually prompt. Next time you're stumbling down Clark at 2am, stop here- its faster than getting home to find you have no junk and ordering something and falling asleep before it arrives. I recommend the Fried Chicken Sammich and french fries too.

You know the Petco across the street from the Clark Dog--the one next to Walgreens? Well, one time at the Clark Dog there was an older couple sitting near us eating hot dogs and cheesy fries. They had clearly just been to that Petco because they had a tiny box with air holes sitting on their table. We could hear chirping and scrabbling against the cardboard throughout the entire meal. Who would bring a bird into a hot dog stand? And why?!? So whether you love this place or hate it, something that anyone who's been here will have in common is a really, really weird story. For drunk food, this is one of my favorite places. But for sober food, I think this place is barely worth 2 stars because when you are sober you're fully cognizant of what you're doing and realize that it's gross fried food in a borderline hygienic locale. This could just be a girl thing though because sober or drunk, my guy thinks it's worth 5.

Like many others, I have never stepped foot into this establishment during the light of day. So with that I will say that Clark Dog is a drunken midnight paradise for all things cheese fries, philly steak sandwiches, hotdogs and hamburgers. It gets busy around 2-4am if I can recall correctly and they only take cash. Soo save a few dollars from your night out and you'll thank yourself when you stop here.

  • Michael G.

I had the Philly Steak sandwich last night along with the cheese fries--they were excellent! The meat on the sandwich was perfectly seasoned and cooked and the onions, mushrooms and red and yellow peppers added a very appetizing dynamic. The bread was also fresh and lightly toasted, which only added to the overall taste. Living close by, this is a sandwich I can see myself coming back multiple times to get. At under $8, it's also a great deal for the area.

I went to Clark Street Dog late on a Saturday night. I have to be honest, I wasn't too keen on the idea, but that's where my friends wanted to go. I started with the cheese fries, which were perfectly delicious. Then my friend ordered the Chicago dog, those things are so hard to resist. So I ordered one too and I'm so glad I did. YUMMY!

  • Donovan H.

Went back because someone at this establishment commented on my review (thought that was pretty cool btw). He recommeded I try their burger...sober...it was really good! I am upping my rating a star and will continue sampling this place. Who knows, with a bar attached I may become a regular...

    (4)
  • Pat S.

Apparently I am one of the few who visits this venue during the daytime. That's the best time to go: it's not full of drunken revelers, but instead just regular working peeps who are there to eat an Italian beef before getting back to the shift. There's also a nice Greek lady ringing up the orders straight out of the "No Coke, Pepsi" SNL thing. I'll echo the commenter who said he prefers this place to Wiener's Circle. The food is better: better fries, better cheese fries, better hot dogs and really good Italian beef. I could eat lunch here every day, that is if coronary health somehow became unnecessary for the continuance of life.

  • Heather K.

Solid dogs, all day every day. While I definitely appreciate the late night hours, I think I spend more time at Clark St. Dog during socially-defined mealtimes. Which leads me to believe that anyone who claims they got sick from the food might actually just be blaming the hotdogs for the fact they spent the entire evening (prior to consuming said hotdog) boozing it up. I'm not judging, I'm just saying it's a possibility. The hotdogs are always perfectly boiled, and if you love cheese fries you definitely need to try them here. Some of my friends really like the cheesesteak sandwiches too, though I've never tried them myself. Cheap eats and surprisingly not as greasy as you'd imagine. Way better than Weiner Circle. Great location too - all streets point to the Clark Street Dog! Hip hip hooray!

    (4)
  • Matt G.

I am in shock by all of the positive reviews here. I am going to stand up for my Chicago roots here...I got a hotdog, fries and pop (which costed upwards of $7) and I always get a hotdog with everything because it wouldn't be a Chicago dog without the fixins. Little did I realize that I was not going to get celery salt on the dog! Let's not forget that Chicago dogs come on poppy-seed buns, not regular buns Clark Street Dog. The fries were McDonalds quality if even that gross. All-in-all, a lot of disappointment for this one, I expected better.

    (2)
  • Mike P.

Your classic Gyro/Beef/Burger/Dog spot. The Philly Cheese steak, while not authentic Philly, was good. My wife liked her double cheese burger and the fries and cheese sticks were good too. In case you care, the best Greek fast food joint is Mickey's Gyros in Oak Park. Go there and get the Big Mickey, then come back to Clark Street Dog and you'll know what I mean

    (3)
  • Hal C.

You know what, their food is good- but I'll never go back here again. Last time I was there, and it will be the last time, they shorted me 10 bucks, and then when I let them know they did this they called me a liar once as they were giving me change. Then again as I was eating food with my friends. Really didn't appreciate that too much. By doing this without any sort of compromise, they lost the business of me and everyone who was there, one person besides myself who was a frequent visitor. Smart move guys, hope you enjoy the 10 bucks over the larger amounts of money you would have made off of our future visits.

  • Jennifer K.

Sooo good. Excellent dogs and cheese fries. And the counter guys are friendly. I deduct one star for the unreasonably grumpy bartender in the back. He has yelled at me on more than one occasion. Yeah, mister, I am drunk. I'm gonna eat this hot dog and have some more beer, and I don't want any lip about it! Dig?

    (4)
  • DeShaun S.

This bar is awesome big ups to the Natalie the best bartender ever

  • Dee W.

Always great for a late night snack while you're on your way home from the bars or even from work - always hits the spot. It's decently affordable - I get hot dogs here always and am always very satisfied with that. It's quick, affordable and the polish dog with EVERYTHING on it is my quick fix.

    (3)
  • Happiness L.

I have passed this place for a few years and decided to stop in. Just ok. Got the hot dog which is pictured on a poppy seed bun...extra special and the right way to do it, only no poppy seeds on the bun that was served. Tasted just fine...no complaints except I wish I had seeds on the bun. Nothing extra special about the flavor though as well. The guys at the counter were nice courteous and quick.

  • Becky K.

I have been here on a couple of occassions and I am not that impressed. First off, you can only pay in cash. There is an ATM that is located inside but it would just be easier if they took credit cards. I have had the Gyro, onion rings, and fried chicken sandwhich. Prices aren't too bad but everything is ala carte. The gyro was super greasy, not how a gyro should be. There wasn't a line but it took quite a long ftime for my food to be ready. Both times I felt super ill afterwards. This would be a good place to go after you have had a bunch of drinks and want to eat greasy food. But sober, not so much.

  • Joel A.

This place is stumbling distance from the Boystown bars and open late. The hot dogs were fine. A good place to get a bite before stumbling to the next bar.

HOT DOG HEAVEN. This place is great, found it by chance when i was walking down Clark st. hungry as hell and there ii stood lit up like a Christmas tree. I sat down at the bar had a tasty IPA and an amazing corn dog. The bar had $2 dollar beers and the Bartender was super nice. She convinced a few patrons to drink their first car bomb as the whole bar cheered. This is a great Chicago hot dog joint.

  • Ben H.

I went to this little hot-dog shop style restaurant after a cubs game. Imagine having a couple beers, watching a game & then walking a mile or so to get something to eat - what better than a couple of sloppy, fully loaded hot dogs. That said, there are a couple of negatives: Only cash - there is no greater pain in the butt then going to eat without cash.....& needing cash. Also, no beer served - which isn't the end of the world, but a cold beer & a hot dog make a good combo. The service was OK & the food was served quickly.

  • Justin H.

Philly Cheese steak is super good as with the cheese fries. Close to all the bars and a decently clean place. Gotta love the bar and arcade games in the same building . Yay for fun and food and beer!

  • Liz W.

A long island, cran-vodka, and 2 heinekens=$18...what??? $18?? that's it?? Wait i can take my drinks to the fast food place next to it?? Is this really true?? Yes it is. Tried the burger, polish, and cheese fries and they were all good, but the cheese fries really stood out. I will definately be back for some pre-party food and drinks.

  • Jenn L.

Solid place to get hot dogs. They're fast and efficient. And the people watching is fabulous during the day. Don't get me wrong, I love Hot Dougs. But with their difficult hours, and the mobs of people getting in the way of me and Dougs' unnaturally colored but addictive neon green relish, going to the hot dog mecca is sometimes more trouble than it's worth. Clark St Dogs, is a close and convenient second when all I want is a damn Chicago style hot dog.

    (3)
  • Chris M.

Great Chicago dogs. Even better after a night of hard drinking on Clark Street or anywhere in Wrigleyville / Lakeview area. Gottta go late at night, when the freaks come out, and the Dogs are even more fulfilling.

  • Lauren P.

ahhh, clark street dog. what would i do without you? clark dog is my go-to for late night food runs, or when i'm feeling especially unhealthy. they have a bigger menu than you'd expect; even though there's lots of choices, i almost always get a cheddar-burger and cheese fries. i like that their meat is grilled to order and they let you pick exactly what you want on your burger. i saw one guy get habineros on his - beware, i don't know where clark dog gets their peppers, but they seem to be hotter than usual. i've also tried the gyro (they're huge - i can never fold it,) the italian beef, fried mushrooms, poppers, hot dogs (plain, cheese or chicago style,) and everything is good. seriously, you can't go wrong. the staff is always super, super nice and overly tolerant to all the drunk people that stroll in after 2AM. FYI - cash only! bank of america and chase ATMs across the street and around the corner, respectively.

    (5)
  • Frank S.

I've had the hot dogs and Italian beef here and I am certainly a fan, good food, good price. Ill be back!

    (4)
  • Jessica C.

If you're looking for a great Chicago style hot dog or some late night eats, this is your place. It's a lot less of a grease pit (see: Weiners Circle).

    (4)
  • Greg M.

I really like Clark Street Dog. I've been coming out to Chicago once every few months for the past couple of years now and this is my go to place for late night bar food or if I get a craving for an Italian combo at 1am. It is conveniently located not too far from the Belmont red line stop and has its own parking lot for those that drive. Btw please don't drink and drive, it's not hot. The food is greasy which makes it oh that much better and the service is fast. The place is a bit greasy in itself but I think that makes the food that much mo better tasting. I can't wait for their Italian combos to grace their lovely appearance in my tummy come Feb when I make the move out to Chicago!

  • Kim K.

AMAZING!!! if you love a hot dog with fix'ns this is the place, especially after having a few drinks. They are so GOOD!!! I recommend this place, even writing about it I want one now. I wish SF could replicate this hot dog joint. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVEEEDD it!!

    (5)
  • A Q.

I had a Chicago dog with everything - mediocre at best.

    (2)
  • Diana S.

I've never had a meal here while sober. This is always the after thought at the end of a long night out. The chili cheese fries are awesome! The gyro sandwich is not. It's a huge pile of meat, but the yogurt sauce has no flavor and the it needs tomatoes. The hot dogs are good, but how hard is that. It's cheap grub and it hits the spot and probably helps soak up the alcohol that would have caused liver damage. So in a way, it's healthy!

    (3)
  • Timothy W.

I got one chili cheese dog with relish and onions - I ate it in about 50 seconds and it was very good. The bun was fresh and moist and the staff was friendly enough. The only things I did not care for were the hood rats behind me in line who annoyed me, even through my ear phones, and the place wasn't all that clean but whatever. I will come back next time I want a hot dog.

  • Leang E.

Alot of these joints usually look like a hole in the wall, dirty crap places, but this place is actually pretty clean. They were even mopping the floor while we sat in to eat in here. They also have tables as opposed to standing along the window and eating in a crowded area. It could be that we grabbed something to eat at an off peak time. I ordered a brat because I like them best of all my options of meat in a bun. Anyways, I didn't realize it came in the steel tub of already cooked meats that is left in the water and oil that it was probably cooked in. Either the excessive oil or the plain make-up of the brat made me sick. The meat seemed to be missing the distinct brat flavor that I like so much. I have to say it made me regret not ordering a couple of hot dogs that looked much better. I was later told that I probably could have asked them to grill it, but I don't think it would be that much better. After biting into the brat and looking at it - it just seemed odd to me, as if I were eating some imitation meat. Plus the broth or water that my brat came in made my bun pretty soggy and kept making the contents spill out and my hands pretty dirty. The bathroom is relatively clean and helped out with the mess I created. I mean I was starving and everything's supposed to taste good by then, but it didn't. If I do end up coming back here again, I will try to stick with something safer.

The Wiener Circle can eat it! Clark Dog is a million times better. Here's the test: get the cheese fries at both and then call me. The shweener circle's cheese is like 3 day old cheese whiz that has been reheated for your enjoyment. The other test is to get a Chicago dog at both places. No contest. The one funny story I have about Clark Dog is one time I ordered a chili cheese dog and the guy made a chili dog and asked what I wanted on it so I said cheese. Then he made me a cheese dog and asked what I wanted on it so i said chili. I realized I wasn't going to get anywhere so I bought both dogs. Mmm language barriers...

    (4)
  • Mike I.

Good Chicago grease doesn't get any better than this. Plus it has a full bar so you can down your double chili dog and cheese fries with a pitcher of beer. Not the prettiest looking place, but you are there for the dogs. Open late too. Note: This place has gotten a little pricey for a grease joint. Went there last night. Got 3 polishes and 1 order of fries (no drinks)...$18. Also, they've steadily increased the prices of their food over the last year. I remember a hot dog was $1.99. Going rate now... $2.59. Boo.

    (5)
  • Rick V.

THE best Philly cheese steak in the city, no ifs ands or buts about it.

    (3)
  • Matthew A.

As far as hot dog stands go, this one is up there with the best. Classic boiled hot dogs with everything, and the fries are good too. Fast service for lunch on weekdays if you need to get in and out. A good amount of tables at which to sit. And if you are still thirsty, the bar next door has a doorway inside, for easy access!

    (4)
  • Ren H.

This is an awesome place to get a hot dog after the game.. their cheese fries are super good too! Its pretty centrally located so you can't miss it when you're hungry and looking for food!

    (4)
  • Katherine B.

I haven't eaten here but we did have drinks at the bar...great price just 4 dollars a drink, however the drinks were mild. The bartender was hilarious and made the atmosphere that much more entertaining. I was on a "liquid diet" that night but the hot dog side was packed, at 1am, and smelled outstanding.

  • molly c.

this place is a gut buster to the maxxxx. i have had dogs, beefs and burgers here, and one ill fated tango with a gyro. it's open late, they have beer! the little bar is unreal... check it out...spring, summer, winter or fall...quick and grease-tastic.

  • Jessica M.

I used to enjoy going here 'cause I thought the food was tasty. About the fourth time I ate here I got major stomach cramps afterwards. Needless to say, this one's permanently banned from my lists of acceptable places to eat.

  • daniel h.

I had 2 chili cheese dogs and a medium root beer, not much cheese and not much chili. $9.88. What a rip off. Im glad i did'nt order fries. I think it cost them about $1.98 or less for wholesale. BEWARE! I was still hungry.....ten bucks!...... more if i would have made the mistake of tipping. SUBWAY has nothing to worry about.

A nasty hole in the wall dive place in my opinion. But damn, that's a good hot dog!

    (4)
  • Isosceles T.

This place rocks. It's the perfect little dive bar where you can grab a beer, chat, or watch the game. My boyfriend and I always stop here for a drink (and maybe some fries or chicken fingers) on our way home.

    (5)
  • Melissa K.

I'm a big fan of this place when I'm drunk. I'm a fan of it when I'm sober and in the mood for a hot dog, it's just a lot more fun when you're there drunk. My only advice is that when ordering a hot dog with cheese and cheese fries while drunk, that will lead to cheese on some article of your clothing. Depending on how drunk you are, it could end up on the people you're with. But again it's excellent drunk food.

    (4)
  • Bella D.

Lov this place for a fast food - polish w/ the works! I love coming here in the summer! Check this place out!

    (4)
  • John B.

The Clark Street Dog isn't just drunk food, it's good food. Granted, no one will curse you out, like at the Wiener Circle. And what they call a Philly Cheese Steak, while tasty, is not a Philly Cheese Steak. But one look at the sign, the "decor," and the staff tells you that this is Chicago tradition. The dog and Polish are top notch, and the faux cheese steak is terrific. The clientele during the day is a completely different animal than at night -- a lot of blue collar guys on their lunch break and kids and grown ups who have been coming here all their life. Put me in that latter category.

nice dudes making all sorts of drunk food for your drunk ass all sorts of hours of the night.

    (4)
  • Brad C.

If your drunk or sober and have a craving for a dog late at night this is the spot, they are open till 4:00 am. The cheese fries are very tasty. Since it is open late be ready for a few homeless people coming up to you. They also have a good amount of parking.

    (4)
  • Shannon S.

Not a bad spot if you are in the mood for some greasy food. Great way to cure a hang over or make that late night craving go away. This place is open until 4 am. Located right at the intersecion of Clark and Halsted.

i was at the dog this past sunday just to get a beer and i still say change is good . its a whole new ball game . and its nice to have a bartender that is friendly as heather. she a unc fan but WHO CARES i like what they did to the bar.the old bartender was grumpy as if he did not wanna be there. and the food still rocks. i will be back GO CUBS.

  • amy k.

i love cheese. particularly when drunk. what could be better than this combo? cheese fries and a cheesy dog with pickle and sauerkraut. there is nothing better than that. until the next morning. and then it seems like an awful idea all around. but so does alcohol and i'm not going to stop partaking in that tradition either. so thank you clark street dog for being on my way home from many many things and providing me with the cheese i need to make it the few more blocks.

  • Michael P.

This place is making me sad. I don't know what the owner is doing, but it ain't right. This place felt the way it should, and now it doesn't. The wall behind the bar and the big chalkboard have been replaced by white tile and a big mirror that is too high to be of any use to anyone but Joakim Noah. The bar and counter behind the bar look like something from a second-rate boardroom. I was in yesterday and the promo shot is some kind of cheesecake dessert shot. WTF? You're a dive bar. Quit trying not to be. It was a great bar for picklebacks and basic drinks and cheap drafts and bar food and great convo with the bartenders (both of whom are great). There is really no point putting up fancy mirrors when you have all your meters in plain view. This was a great neighborhood dive bar. Its greatness is declining rapidly. If I want a cheesecake shot (and I never will), I know where to go, and it ain't Clark St. Bar. CSB clings to 3 stars because of the fantastic bartenders and the availability of Not Your Father's Root Beer on tap, but it is a tenuous grip.

  • vivian h.

Oh yes, it is a hole in the wall, but I can't tell you how many times Clark Dawg came to my rescue, whether it was to cure an ill-advised night with my friend "Al Cohol" or when I had the hankering for a good hearty burger. I used to live right next door, which was bad - think my cholesterol level probably shot up by double digits. I love the cheese/chili fries, the double cheeseburger, the chili dog. Man, do I miss it.....

  • Jose E.

All my friends know that I love this place, it's close to my home. The cheese fries are amazing and get the Italian Combo. Here is my hidden gem, the owner is more than happy to play any soccer match (unless the Cubs/Bears/Hawks/Bulls are on fire/playing), so add this one to your Soccer Bars List. The bartenders are always nice and friendly, they will know your by name and introduce you to all the regulars thus making you feel like you are at home. As for the regulars, they are a nice bunch, great to struck a conversation, friendly to no end. The cooks are amazing, they are talkative and always put attention on my orders. I'm seriously gonna miss this place when I move.

    (5)
  • Max M.

I really enjoyed my food here. I got a Double Cheeseburger with bacon and an egg on top and it was delicious. It took a while to come out but it was worth the wait. The staff here were a bit rude, and I had to repeat my order once which isn't a huge deal. The cleanliness of the place could be much better. Sit in the bar area if you can. It is way cleaner over there. Highly recommend coming late at night if you have time to wait for your order.

  • Robert F.

This place doesn't deserve your money. They are jerks. Want a Refill on an extra large soda? 1.00$ charge and a nasty look. minimum $10 card charge. No specials. Attitude problems. I thought I was at a hot dog place not the RIP. Try chipmunks on diversey Ave., much better place that appreciates your business. These guys should be run out of business. Suckers eat here! No lines here, just mean people here.

I have only been here a couple of times, and they have totally lost my business! Each time that we have been here, the food is decent, but the service is horrendous! There is not a smile, a thank you, nothing....if looks could kill, I would be dead...seriously! Just a terrible experience! I thought after the first time, ok, maybe they were having a bad day, but in going back, we got the same "here's your food...screw you" service. Not appreciated, and even though my partner (a Chicago native) has been here numerous times...we will not be returning.....

I love the Clark Street Dog! Every facet of the place is done right. Their Polish sausage is done just right, and I enjoy all of the sausages and beef sandwiches. There isn't hardly a time I go when I don't stop by the bar to try their rotating Ale Syndicate selection or a frosty mug of Not Your Father's Root Beer. Seriously, check out the bar and grab yourself a sausage or dog and fries while you watch the game or chat with the regulars.

Clark dogs is the best. It's open until 3am every night. It has a menu that surpasses any other late-night dog place. They serve everything from Tamales to Gyros and have the best cheese fries and chili cheese fries ever. The bar may look divey, but it is full service with cocktails and specialty drinks. One of the best drinks is the Chocolate Almond martini. The best bartender is Laura (sunshine) who works every Tuesday, she is the best at mixing your party a delicious shot. I will always return to this place for late night chili-cheese fries and a $3.50 Goose Island

I got the Clark street hot dog with everything on it. It was pretty good, not phenomenal but good. The bun though was a bit dry, like the buns you buy at the store. I would recommend not getting the fries though, they're mediocre and maybe they're good when you're hungry, because they give you a lot of fries, but they're plain McDonald's sized fries that have barely any salt and are overcooked and dry. They don't take cards here unless your order is over $10. There is a chase bank right next door though.

There are few times in life I get to have a drink without any disturbances. Even less often do I get to have a drink and learn valuable life lessons. Amanda is the perfect combination of bartender and minor diety. I will remember this day for the rest of my life. In all seriousness, the bartender was friendly, helpful, and gave great service.

What a great neighborhood spot, this place never disappoints with late night menu and the greatest employees. Laura is always so welcoming and she really makes her patrons feel at home. They have the Not Your Father's Rootbeer 10% on draft for $5! And definitely the best $5 burger you can find around. They always serve food til 3am and their menu is super diverse. Will always be back to this spot.

On a day running errands, we chose Clark Street Dog as our place for lunch. It was discussed that I should try a true Chicago hot dog, so I had the Clark Street Dog. It had a good flavor; however, it was just really messy. I ended up eating it with a fork which seemed ridiculous. My recommendation would be for a sturdier bun, something similar to what was used for Hubby's sandwich. That might not make it a true Chicago hot dog, but it would make more sense than the cheap white hot dog bun they used. Hubby really enjoyed his sandwich. He had either the Italian Beef or Italian Sausage (I forgot to write it down at the time, sorry) and when I got a bite, I thought the flavor was wonderful. The peppers definitely added the right touch to the sandwich. If we had to go back, that would be my pick.

I ordered a hot dog fries and drink. the cashiers told me it was $8.39. I paid and told her it was the most expensive hot dog I ever ate.I asked for a receipt just to make sure that they rang up the order on the register and did not pocket the money so that they would not have to show it on there books . i did not take a close look at the receipt but when i got home i noticed the receipt was for $8.09 , so she overcharged me 30 cents. The food was ok but I thought the price was outrageous.man over the years i have good experiences and bad experiences in restaurants but mostly bad experiences in these gyros type places. well you can only screw and disappoint me one time. there are many other places to eat.

The workers here are some of the rudest people I have encountered. If you hate your job that much, quit and hire someone that doesn't roll their eyes every 5 minutes. Last time I'll be here.

As a person who doesn't eat meat I was not in a hurry to try this place out. But my husband loves a late night veggie dog so we stopped by. It looks cheesy from the outside but once we entered I was actually impressed. A cozy dark bar area with music playing and cheap drink specials almost lured me in. But we went for the food counter instead. The guys turned out our fries and dog quick. The fries were hot and crispy. The dog was fully loaded and satisfying. I will definitely be back to try out the bar another night.

I've lived here for 10 years and hadn't tried it. With the impending closure of Hot Doug's I'm on a search for a new dog place. This is not it. It is, just ok. The hotdogs are not anything exciting or worth writing home to. It's just a regular "Chicago Style Dog" without the celery salt... The fries were good, but if you're taking it to go, hopefully you don't have too far to go. They don't travel well.

Unfortunately customer service has lacked so much our last few visits that I had to update my review. I still struggle to understand places that do not offer free refills. We order a drink, spending $2 for a small fountain drink, and they rolled their eyes when we asked for a refill. It was an older woman behind the counter. When we asked for another refill (I'm pregnant and was extremely thirsty), the woman said it would cost a dollar. We didn't have a dollar and so she refused until my husband talked her into it. I just find establishments that are so stingy on something that we know costs very low to operate, a bit much. It left a very bad taste in our mouths so not sure we will be returning. We also found a hard piece of plastic in my Greek white cucumber sauce that freaked me out a little. Thankfully I noticed it before I put it anywhere near my mouth.

The Restaurant Best Greek salad I have ever had!!! Fresh crisp romain lettuce, 2 big pieces of feta, lots of olives, cucumbers and onions and lots of super tasty dressing make it one of the best salads I have ever had. I have to admit I was surprised it was so good but just as surprised it was huge big enough for 2 and maybe even 4 if you just want a small side. The Gyros was also excellent they load the pita full of meat and slather on tzatziki sauce, onions and tomato. It's a big sandwich I was full after eating half but could not stop eating until it was gone it was so good. This place gets pegged as a place to go for late night food or quick bite to eat ,but the food is fresh with big portions and worth a visit anytime. The Bar We have nicknamed this bar "the pole bar" as it has a giant pole that runs thru the middle of the place supporting a huge billboard you can see above the place. The pole has a counter built around it to set your drinks on and you can see the massive bolts on the floor holding it all up, something awesome about the whole thing. It's a small bar but always ends up being fun. We ended up here for "one beer" wink wink on St Patrick's day, we sat at a window seat and watched the chaos and of drunks wondering around. You know those bars that don't seem special but always end up being a great time when ever you go, this is one of them.

This was always my favorite hot dog place when I was living in Chicago. Though, in full disclosure, it is the first place I ever had a Chicago hot dog, so there is an extra nostalgia factor for me. Anyway, it's a great place for a late night bite. The hot dog (with everything!) is basically what you'd expect. Hot dog on a bun and topped with tomato, onion, a pickle spear, peppers, mustard, and I believe celery salt. The cheese fries are good. I like that they use a smooth nacho cheese, so it doesn't get gunky as it cools. Service is always friendly.

One of the things I appreciate is when someone proves me wrong... Thank you Clark Street Dog for showing me an absolutely fantastic experience... About 2 weeks ago, I went back into Clark Street Dog after the owner reached out to me, and told me aboutt how I needed to try out the chicken version of the philly cheesesteak. I took him up on it, and I found myself spending a Sunday afternoon hanging out in the bar area of the restaurant enjoying an amazing sandwich. The food was perfect. Healthy grilled chicken pieces, on a nice italian bun, with grilled vegetables and big side of french fries. I was pleasantly surprised, and I ended up stuffed by the time I was ready to leave. The best part of my dinning experience was spending time with the owner Angelo. The store has been family owned and operated for decades, and Angelo really takes his customers experiences seriously. His dedication to the restaurant really resonated with me, as I used to work in food service. When the owner cares, so does everyone else, and ultimately the customers are satisfied. Clark Street Dog is no exception to that. I will be back to Clark Street Dog down the line. The food was fantastic and my experience was memorable. I'm happy to be writing this updated review, and I wanted to set the record straight on this spot.

One of the BEST philly cheese steak sandwiches I've ever had. That's mainly why I go, and they're open pretty late (3 or 4 am). Last time we went, the guys working even let us order, even though they were cleaning & closing up.

    (4)
  • Steve M.

Classic Chicago grease joint that you REALLY want to go to when you're a bit sauced. Chicago dogs are pretty standard, and the cheese fries feature that ooey gooey yellow pump cheese that's just so good. (Varies in texture from, say a Weiner's Circle pump cheese.. I'd say... it's more runny? That sounds so gross...) Friendly and fast line cooks behind the counter.

    (3)
  • Angie M.

4 stars simply for the fact that they are open incredibly late. Corn dog + cheese fries at 3am = happiness. Sure its a little dirty inside, but the staff is always friendly (ish), my food is greasy and delicious and I'm a happy camper after indulging in a dog. Interesting side note: I was shopping in the area recently and drove right by Clark Street Dog at dinnertime. I decided to stop in to see if the food could stand up to sober taste buds. Turns out, the corn dogs and cheese fries (and maybe mozzarella sticks) are just as good at 6pm as they are in the wee hours of the morning after a landslide of vodka cocktails.

The day I moved to Chicago, I was taken here by my friend who's been living in the city for a while. She made an amazing choice! I love this place. Usually I'm not a huge fan of cheesey sauce on fries, but when the fries are fried to a crispy perfection, it's all good. Those, coupled with an extraordinary turkey burger made with ordinary ingredients (and a 312..mmm), made for an amazing "Welcome to the Neighborhood!" meal. I love that there's a distinction between "family" and "bar" seating, and that you can grab your meal and head to the bar area. Also, this is a great place to grab a cold beer on the weekends (day or night). I will consider Clark Dog a staple in my time living here!

  • Alek Z.

Pretty decent hot dog place. Went here with some friends over Thanksgiving. The dude behind the counter was pretty funny, and the dogs were loaded down, as is the Chicago way. Prices weren't bad either. I guess it's nothing to write home about, but still pretty dece.

Ok, I'm going to be honest with you. I'd rather go here late night than the Wiener Circle any day of the week. I don't need a show. I don't need people yelling back at forth, or at me. I just need a hot dog and fries to soak up some alcohol before I go to sleep. These guys get it done with no fuss. The best post-drinking grub you can get.

  • Drew T.

This place is a total dive, but it's got charm. Good dogs and fries. Go there for a birthday; mr. bartender will get drunker than you and your friends. I'll be back.

  • Andrew M.

My best friend used to rave about Clark Dog and truthfully I never saw the big deal. Yeah, it's open until like 4 am, and yeah you can Italian beef, gyros, hot dogs or whatever you want there. But the food is just so-so and it's a pretty disgusting place. If you're standards are as low as your funds, then I say for it. Otherwise, go to Taco and Burrito Palace or Weiner Circle (see my other reviews).

food nothing to write home about. my problem was the prep, even though they wore gloves they touched everything with the gloves kinda defeating the whole purpose of the gloves. my wife asked the food preparer to put on clean gloves and as he turned to do it he mumbled to his co-worker "the f'n beach wants me to change gloves", after the lady at the counter copped an attitude when they were reluctant to make the sandwich new instead of the one he had started with the dirty gloves, at that point I asked for my money back and we left.

Drunk food review: The good: Very impressive food. Great tasting philly cheese sandwich and fries. Hot and fresh. The service was friendly (from what i remember). Didn't have to wait too long. Way more laid back than the wiener's circle. The bad: Prices seemed "high", but that's almost a stretch. It was pretty good. The wait between ordering and getting food took a minute, but it was hot when it came. Overall: A good rival to the wiener's circle down the street. Both great options for drunk food. Not sure about lunch/dinner, but i guess it all depends on what you are looking for. Overall, great food regardless. Atmosphere: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Food: 8/10

This would not have been my pick. However, I figured with three and a half stars on Yelp this place might be better than others for a late night bite with our group. I was the sober one so I am not sure if that affected my review. I don't expect much from these types of places, but I don't think we should have to clean up tables in order to have a place to eat. The Philly Cheeseteak was a miss. It was too greasy and salty with burnt veggies on top. I kept tasting char instead of onions and peppers. The french fries were piping hot and probably the best thing I ate. It was a good thing the group did not seem to mind that I was having far more than my share! While it is a late night option, I think I'd rather go to our friend's house and order a pizza next time.

"Attitude" is the only word that comes to mind when I think of this place. When you first walk in, there is no particular area you can stand to order. When you finally get someone's attention, they seem annoyed that you want something from them. Once your plate is angrily assembled, it's carelessly tossed to the angry woman behind the register. When she is done stacking the napkins, checking inventory, looking around with disgust at people and whatever she feels like doing, she'll finally look at the person standing in front of her, say: what do you want? When you tell her you want to pay, she sniffs at you. Don't even think about trying to hand her a card, whether or not your order is over $10, just give her cash, but she will more or less throw your change back at you. With service like that I would normally say something, but I was just so utterly shocked by the way I was treated, for no good reason, that I just stayed quiet. Other than the service, the dogs and fries are fine, the beef is good. But in Chicago, you can get the same quality food, with much better service at 15 other places in spitting distance. I would not recommend

I decided to give this place another try. The owner had kindly offered to make it right ... but at the time I didn't know when I would be back around there. I'm not writing this because I was given anything for free. I'm writing it because I felt the place deserved another shot since the owner showed that he cared. I am glad I went back. I had some of the best onion rings EVER -- very pleasantly surprised! I'll be sure to stop in again when I'm in that area.

Came here late at night after the bars bc it was the closest hot dog spot. Not much of a wait to order, but you better know what you want as soon as you step in front of the register. The wait for the food was a little longer than I thought it would take, but it didn't really bother me. I had the chili dog (FYI when the man asks if you want toppings he's just talking about onions) and fried Mac and cheese nuggets. Both were delicious! A friend had ordered the Chicago dog and the pickled pepper was pretty darn spicy and I can do pretty spicy. Overall it satisfied our late night munchies!

I don't care what you say, I love the Clark Street Dog. So cheap, so delicious, and a perfect late night stop. The guys working there are always really friendly and I still crave their Italian beef. CSD is what it is. If you want a perfect Chicago style hot dog, go to Wiener's Circle or whatever. If you want the world's greatest Philly Cheesesteak, go to Philadelphia. If you want really good late night food and a lot for your money just down the street from the Boystown bars, Clark Street Dog is IT.

I specifically told the cook: "no onions" as I have an allergy. I drove down the road, opened the bag at a red light & found both hot dogs with onions on them. $9.74 thrown away as I could not eat them & only had the fries to eat. The fries were crispy, yet little flavor.

THE BEST HOT DOG PLACE IN THE CITY. By far. Granted I may be bias, as my best friend lives across the street, but the cheese fries, mac and cheese wedges, hot dogs, chicken tenders, gyros, etc. = all absolutely fantastic! You have to spend $10 if you want to use a card (which I can easily do) but otherwise bring cash. If you love cheese, they have the best cheese fries!

Chicago is my hometown. Every time I cone back to the City, the very first place I go to after the airport, is Clark Street Dogs. The first item I order is the terrific Italian Beef with hot peppers, fries and a coke. I am then in Heaven! Clark's has the best Italian Beef in the world, by far!

First time here. Went in to get some food and realized this bar was next door. The bartender is great! They have Root Beer Beer on draft and it's fantastic! The food was great too, exactly what you'd expect from a small hot dog place. Definitely check it out if you're in the neighborhood!

    (5)
  • Abigail C.

I really wanted a hot dog so I thought I would try this place out. The prices weren't expensive but after eating my hot dog and fries I felt like I overpaid. You can get a MUCH better hot dog for cheaper at a number of different places. The hot dog wasn't bad just nothing special or even worth the price really. The only nice part was she didn't make me spend $10 to use my credit card, they have a $10 minimum. Probably won't go back because that I can get a tastier hot dog for cheaper elsewhere.

Clark Street Dog is located on the corner of Clark and Halstead, having a very noticeable presence on a heavily trafficked street corner I decided to try out the Clark Street Dog when I was in the area. Upon receiving my hot dog I noticed a dry, hard, bun without the typical poppy seeds found on the buns of most Chicago-style hot dogs. The hot dog itself seemed overcooked and someone went a little crazy with the application of mustard. The pickle was nicely sliced, but the relish seemed sour and gave a bad aftertaste, the celery salt seemed to have been applied a bit more excessively than necessary and finally the sport peppers were unusually hot. The onions seemed fine and were well chopped and quite frankly were the only positive about the hot dog. If you happen to be in Lakeview and are looking for a Chicago Style Hot dog, just keep on walking.

It was clear we weren't gonna make it to Portillo's, but Sarah needed to experience a hot beef and a Chicago dog at some point. Place was packed, what with 800 thousand Pride-paraders but we were in and out nice and quick... those guys were hustling!

I wanted everyone to know what a Class Act Clark Street Dog truly is.. I just had a message from Angelo V, Clark Street Dog's owner thanking me for my business and saying he was happy that I found my way there.. Well.. for the record my gyros was truly one of the best I have ever had.. and yes.. at age 51 I have had my fair share! And.. I will definitely be returning to this awesome place located at the Corner of Clark and Barry in the near future. If you have'nt been to Clark Street Dog I would suggest checking them out.. And to Angelo..Thank You for such a great message! You made my day..:)

Clark St. is not the best Chicago dog but it's not the worst. The hotdog is a little skinny, like when they are a little thicker. Wow that sounds bad! But after a night of having a few beers and you want a dog, it's better than Wiener circle. It's a nice place to go have a dog or a burger if its late or you had a few and just want some food. Plenty of worse options out there.

    (3)
  • Jojo U.

right off the bat i have to say that i don't do hot dogs. in any form. but i think i had the most amazing bacon cheeseburger in my life from Clark Street Dog (and this is coming from someone who is OCD picky about how my burgers are made). Very awesome. Staff was a little overwhelmed (we were a group of 15). Definitely would go there again.

In our house we lovingly refer to this bar as "The Truck Stop" because it feels a lot like a truck stop inside. They have the double whammy of cheap AND great beers. If you get hungry Clark Street dog is a short walk around a partition.

This review is for the Bar portion of Clark Street Dog. I wandered into this joint and noticed that their special was "$20 vodka sampler" I ordered it... it was 10 shots of different flavored vodka's. I drank them all... that's about all I remember.

The typical pricey, greasy drunk food. But at 4 am, I am willing to pay that much and I am not going to worry about ingesting food that is terrible for me. The staff was really nice and let us order even though they were about to close up for the night. It was a little difficult to order since they were out of a lot of ingredients (it was about 10 minutes before closing). I ordered the chili cheese dog... give me a break.. I had several drinks in my system at the time. And I also stole a couple cheese fries. We were not allowed to dine in the restaurant, so we ate on top of my friends car.

I don't know where to begin with Clark st bar. Not only is it one if the few non douche bars in Wrigleyville, but they have a hot dog joint next door. It's like one stop shopping. But for drunks. It also has a decent jukebox worth dancing to if you're with a cute boy. Oh, and you have to get a pickleback shot. That shit is delicious!

Don't get the burger... if you're sober or drunk--just don't. I made the mistake of getting a cheeseburger here when I was stone cold sober, for dinner. While I was able to add things like mushrooms for free, it certainly did not make up for the fact that the burger was grey. Did I eat the whole thing? Sure. I hate letting food go to waste. Would I go back in time and spent a little more for a burger to go at DMK? YES. The end :( Bad Susan

Unfortunately I have to give this place 1 star. It was negative 6 degrees outside, and I asked the gentleman working there if I could stand inside for a few minutes while waiting for the bus in order to not freeze or get sick. He laughed and said no. I understand he is not obligated to do so, but in my experience most people will throw you a bone in this type of situation, I know I would. His lack of empathy and rude demeanor convinced me this is not a place to take my business.

I normally have a discerning palate when it comes to food. I hate the term foodie because it has an aura of douchy-ness associated with it, but I'm a food lover and a bad meal is a huge disappointment to me. Clark Street Dog was a disappointment to me. I used to live around the corner on barry no more than a stones throw away and would pass by this place basically any time I came home from the L or a night out. As with any late night food, if you're awake that late at night there is usually a reason (mom if you're reading this I was studying) and you're not hungry exactly but food sounds AMAZING. Being around the corner from Clark Steet Dog, I was always tempted to just grab a hot dog on my way home from the bar. Well after 5-10 times, I finally decided, you know what, this place is just not good. The hot dog is somehow not very tasty (which eludes me because I assumed everyone got their dogs from the same supplier). I usually asked for a char dog (I know this is frowned upon but they have a grill so why not just humor me). It was rarely grilled at all and all the toppings seemed to be lack luster. I really wanted to like this place, I really tried but it left me disappointed every time.

  • Yvette I.

This place has awesome fast food. What is different about the place is there is a small bar next to it, that you can walk into without leaving the hot dog place. It's clean, the employees are friendly, and you get quick service. So grab a dog and a beer. I believe clark street dogs takes cash in the food area and only will take credit cards if it's $10.00 or more for the total of the food order. However don't worry, They have a ATM right there too. They are open till 4am.

This place handed me an amazing italian beef/sausage combo. I don't know how this hole produced such a tasty concoction that rivaled if not BEAT portillo's, but it did. And I am shocked. Sure, everything else blew. Including and I'm sure not limited to the chili-cheese fries, chicago dog, pork skewer special, gyro, and cheeseburgers. But dat combo....feel me on dat combo. If ever someone were struggling with an addiction or any of life's problems, I'll take them to this POS and have them taste that sandwich. And then they will know anything in life is possible. Thank CSD for changing my perception of reality.

Gyro was good. Nothing special though. Just good old Chicago hot dog stand food. Would eat there again.

We used to go here after our Tuesday night trivia. Katie was always a nice bartender. Recently, we didn't have an attentive bartender and it looked like she was in her work out clothes.

Gross hot dogs, terrible service. A nice bartender in the adjoining bar earned them 2 stars instead of 1

I've never been impressed with the food or service. It gets crowded, people cut in line. The only positive I've seen is the Ms. Pac-man/Galaga arcade game - which is my favorite game ever. I only go here when my husband insists on stopping by. You can find way better dogs and hamburgers. As far as it being a late night after drinking stop - well I've had Waffle House food that was better.

In one visit Clark Street Dog went from best Philly Steak in Chicago to totally unacceptable. In fairness I had never been there at a busy hour before, but their signature sandwich was hard crumbs of dried meat today. I might go back, but I would never order the Philly Cheese Steak again. Awful!

How could anyone not like this place! It has everything!!! Great beer on tap, delicious food and friendly service. Katie is the bartender with the skills on Tuesday night. Try a root beer beer and some cheese fries, you won't regret your choices and your wallet will thank you. YOU'RE WELCOME CHICAGO!!

People are so picky. Also, to say this food is expensive is utterly insane, and anyone who says that should not be trusted. Good dog, passable fries, and a good burger, even. Looking forward to trying a gyro from here.

When you don't want to stop drinking but need some food! I usually hit this place up after touring my local taps. You drink and you get hungry! That's why there is this place. You don't have to stop drinking but you get your cheap hot fix on! Perfect.

If you can tolerate being panhandled right there at your table as you are eating, this joint is damn entertaining around 1-2am. Forget about True Lies playing on the TVs--people-watching is the real show. You will see some hilarious and mortifying shit here. Just try to remain a spectator and not a participant...that is all that I will say about that. $2 Bud Light drafts and $3 Goose Island 312. That is a hell of a great deal which seems to be overlooked. People come here AFTER drinking, I guess. But if you want "one or two more" with your late-night drunk food, this is a great place to come. Years ago my then-girlfriend lived in the apartment building across Halsted, and swore by their cheese fries (which many others seem to as well). I remember the joint being serviceable for late-night grub, and they're still cranking it out, solid as a rock. As John B. noted, the Philly steak sandwich is not authentic, but it is goddamn good. I liked that it was not smothered in cheese and had a good balance of ingredients (key to all sandwiches). Also, the roll was way better than typical hot-dog-stand quality. They have a few parking spots outside, but dear heavens, I hope that none of these people are driving home.

Had my very first (and 2nd) Chicago dog here! Substituted something I can't eat--peppers, for something I LOVE--lotsa ketchup. OMFG... Soooo yummy! I'd never previously liked mustard, pickles, relish, raw onions... None of that! And no hot dog itself has ever been so damn hot & tasty! Almost bought another on the spot! (Settled for a less filling, tamale instead, which was awful--and tiny. And rolled in paper(?) Came back a day or 2 later for my next Clark dog (since the chili didn't appeal to me--I sampled it), & a corn dog. This precocious 4yr old in line with her dad interogated me while I squirted extra red stuff on my dog, saying "WHAT ARE YOU DOING??" and "WHY ARE YOU PUTTING ALL THAT?" This dog wasn't as hot on the inside, and the corn dog was mediocre.

I was all excited to be finally visiting the bar next to Clark St. Dog, and it was St. Patty's Day and who wasn't in the mood for a good dive bar? Needless to say, with cramped seating and little space, it's not exactly ideal for bringing a group of friends. I ordered a pitcher of green beer as is the custom. When the bartender returned with a pitcher of regular beer, I asked about the mix-up and the bartender assured me they didn't have any more left. For a pitcher of Miller Lite I paid $15, way too much for a dive like this. Throw in the lame tunes being forced on the jukebox, and it made for a disappointing evening (until we made it to Burton Place).

Another restaurant I can't believe doesn't have a 5-star Yelp rating! This place is a great place for: Italian beef sandwiches Pizza puffs Fries (not cheese fries though) Hot dogs (of course) Double cheeseburgers This is NOT a place for: Fancy pants diners Picky bitches If you like hot dog type food that is made with love, stop on in, I promise you won't be sorry.

OK so its 12:30 in the morning and the Chinese place we wanted was closed so we headed down Clark, and ended up at Clark Street Dog we have eaten here just about every trip now, and the food is always yummy we get a Italian Beef Combo, and a RC Cola, only thing that could make it better is if the RC was in a glass bottle, now you don't even have to ask for it wet they just dunk the bun, my partner asked is there a way to get the bun to not fall apart, I said yes ask for it dry, like he said that's not a option he will use the fork after it falls apart so are belly's are full and we walked around for a bit and laughed at the Trannies at Dunkin Donuts

I was really craving a hot dog today, so my husband and I thought we'd try Clark Street Dog. Once I got inside, I saw that someone had ordered the most delicious looking sandwich with tiny pieces of steak, yellow bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and swiss cheese. I needed to have it. The Philly Sandwich was just as good as it looked! Also accompanied by some onion rings and a Dr. Pepper. Such an amazing meal!

Ok is someone paying these people to write these reviews. $6.58 for a hot dog fries and a drink? Must be the nieghborhood. Not to mention the hot dog was soggy because they plopped on two wet old nasty tomatoes and an old pickle on top of it I had nothing else to eat for lunch so I had to take the soggy bread and condiments off and just eat the rest of the hot dog. I don't know what type of drinks they are serving but the stickers on the machine said Sierra Mist and believe me the lemon lime soda at Aldi tasted better then this junk. This place is overpriced and the food is not that good. It's not as if he's spending all his proceeds on the workers either because only one of them spoke English. Yes, I'm Hispanic so get over it and don't play the race card. Seriously, how can you go wrong with cheese fries. Leave some reviews of real food. I hope someone opens up a better spot to compete with this travesty. So far this is the only place within walking distance to get a hot dog. You people need to get out more if you gave this place five stars. This puts Chicago to shame.

This bar is a great place for a neighborhood vibe. The bartenders are attentive and sociable. We have had particularly good service from Amanda time and time again. Anytime you're looking for an affordable drink and a relaxed environment, this is the spot!

Best way to describe this place is Moderately priced drunk food. I saw a guy that had to be carried out by his friends because he couldn't walk. Not the best place in town, but it gets the job done. Can't go wrong with the gyro or any of the hot dogs. Would only go back when I am intoxicated.

  • Holly J.

This review is based solely on the bar portion of the restaurant. I can't speak highly enough. Infact, when anyone visits from out of town I almost always drag them here. You see, I'm a real fan of a diverse and eccentric crowd. On any given evening you can find each and every age group, gender, class and creed. This makes for exciting conversation and an unbeatable time. They often have a great bartendress behind the bar who is casual and chatty, offering up their drink specials and suggesting a pickle back shot. I loathe the flavor of pickle juice so I never partake but this lends a true neighborhood feel. It's a small space, nothing fancy and no frills. You can order from their menu all of the typical Chicago style fare. Each time I have it's been quite decent. In general, this could be slated a dive bar...I mean, it's attached to a hot dog joint...but I still get a gleam in my eye when I'm strolling past. A gleam that often leads me inside for a drink or two. This is a great place to add to your neighborhood bar crawl, it's also a great place to start your evening. And, if you're windblown and rainsoaked it's a great place to hunker down and stay awhile. Clark Street Dog...your bar is top notch!

My roommate and I go here after the bar a lot, so we wanted to see what it tasted like sober. Honestly, one of my favorite Chicago dogs in the city. The restaurant is gross, the cooks are unfriendly, but when it is 2 a.m., I really don't care. Enjoy after a few adult beverages or order take out would be my suggestion.

I love me some chili and cheese! Put that on some fries and you have made me very happy. The Clark Street Dog is a nice little stop to fill some of your hot dog, burger, and french fry cravings. My friends and I have stopped by a couple of times. Chili cheese fries are delicious and their hot dogs are good. Sat outside and enjoyed the atmosphere. I'm not crazy about the place, but they make a good hot dog and that's really all they're going for.

after my most recent visit to this place (about 30 minutes ago), i was reminded of how much i love it and appreciate it. as we were leaving i said, "that's why i gave it 5 stars." but then i realized that in my previous review i didn't! they sooo deserve it. even while super busy with its share of obnoxious drunk people, the staff was completely on top of things. polite, very fast, everything correct, and oh so good. i was particularly impressed because at least 3 staff members were helping us and we only had to give them our order once. i don't know how they keep everything running so smoothly. my girlfriend requested extra dip for her italian beef. the staff member fulfilled the request while simultaneously fielding at least 5 more questions & demands from other customers. one more thing-- they have a parking lot. word. and THAT'S why i give them 5 stars.

As a Chicago native, I am entitled to love three things indefinitely: Baseball, Snow and Gyros Sandwiches. And Clark Street Dog is my corner store for a quick gyros and fries, which by the way, are the most perfect fries I've ever had. Yeah, yeah, they're previously frozen, I don't care. Those french fries remind me of how McDonalds had 'em when I was a kid (trust a former fat kid's instincts on this one). And that gyros. Oh my.. the fresh onions, tomatoes and tzatziki sauce plopped on top of a heaping mound of lamb and all on top a hot pita? Wow, umm.. excuse me while I go clean up the drool off my face.

ive gone to this place twice now, first time was for chicken strips and fries. It took them 20 mins to cook them cause they were so busy and unorganized, the fries were good but i noticed they pulled out a tysons chicken bag that you get at jewel, i paid $9.00 for something i could of done at home. BUT it was close and i was hungry. Second time i went in i ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and fries, they literally dipped the bread in melted butter slapped it on the grill for maybe 1 min put a peace of kraft american single cheese in the center and handed it to me still soggy with butter, disgusting! i like my grilled cheese cooked but they were so busy they were just trying to get everyone in and out. i dont know why everyone likes this place.

  • Jia M.

Pretty good food at reasonable prices. I got the fried chicken sandwich with extra cheese(3.79+.55) and the double cheeseburger (4.99), and a Nantucket nectar. Total came out to be 12.12 I have no complaints about the service. I was in and out within ten minutes. Both sandwiches were tasty and pretty good, despite them looking ordinary. I do appreciate seeing the food prepared in front of me. So if you're drunk from the bar next door or in the neighborhood and have a craving for burgers or hot dogs, consider Clark Dog.

If you've been to Philly enough to know that it's just called a "steak" then do yourself a favor and don't eat here. Least authentic Philly I've ever had. Just watching the guy make it, I could tell it was going to be horrible, and oh, was it ever.

Just got back from the bar portion of this location. One of the "regulars" picked a fight with my friend and left. We thought it was over, that he was just having a bad day and overreacting. But, he decided to come bad, and called my friend a "mental retard." He starting hurling racial slurs at myself and one of my friends. I spoke up for myself and my friend told him to get out if he didn't want to be there. Then the bartender decided to have a go at me, saying she can handle her bar. Please. If you could handle your bar, you wouldn't have let it escalate to that level because they were exchanging words for about 10 minutes. It was also a slow night in a REALLY small space, so she could definitely hear what was going on. Just letting a guy be an asshole and letting an incident happen is NOT "handling it." I live pretty close to this place and wouldn't mind being a regular here, either... if it wasn't for the horrible unprofessional attitude. Definitely come here if you feel like being treated like shit. Oh wait, you might get an fake apology that's really just covering someone's ass but not much else. If you don't feel like dealing with this crap, feel free to go to any of the hundreds of bars within a mile of this one.

I don't know a whole lot about Chicago Style hot dogs but I was under the impression they were supposed to be beef - the sausages at this place tasted like any other hot dog I'd ever had. Tasty enough but nothing especially stand out about them. They would probably get 2 stars if it weren't for the fact you can take your hot dog next door to the adjoining dive bar and wash it down with a beer.

Oh snap first to review! I'm a huge fan of this place. A nice place to wind down after work. It's sometimes quiet so I might take a new graphic novel or book and read or write while drinking while talking to heather or molly. The beer/liquor selection has been growing the past few months. The service is great and I've been coming here for over 5 years now. It's still great to come through. Bring friends! Come hungry! Leave wasted! I HAVE TO COME GET MY SCARF. THANKS HEATHER!

Gotta know what to order. They have a great cheesesteak and great fries. Burgers are OK, Hot Dogs are only good if you get the works with peppers and mustard and all the "fixins". Also, they have that little bar to the side so I can get a beer with my cheesesteak. Nothing better. Now I just want one of those red shirts they wear...

  • Christyn S.

I can't believe this place charges $2.99 for a hot dog(not on a poppyseed bun) with no fries included. Then I purchased the fries-and they were not worth the $1.89. This place is not worth the "cheap dinner" plans you might have....head over to Al's or Weiner Circle.

    (2)
  • Chris G.

If you live in Lakeview, you will eat here. It's inevitable. The hot dog is dressed perfectly, and the gyro is greasy and tasty, and will make you feel guilty for the rest of the day (well, night probably). Don't get the Italian beef, it's not the best. The brat is pretty good, possibly a Usinger although I'm not certain. Please don't get the double-dog because that's just wrong. But most of all, don't get offended or grossed out. You know what this place is, you came here intentionally; embrace it.

I used to really enjoy getting late night cheeseburgers here after I got off work. The staff always recognized me (and my bosses, who ordered Burgers, no burgers - vegetarians). I say *used to* because one night I strayed from my usual and ordered a gyro. I do not recommend doing this. Why? Because gyro tastes really terrible coming back up for the next 15 hours. I haven't been able to even think of eating a gyro since then, which is really sad because man do I love gyros. This was the second time I have ever had food poisoning in my life - so I know that is what happened, and the time-frame convinced me that it was this sad gyro that made me so sick. None of the other food ever made me ill, but man, this was bad enough to make me never return. Maybe one day I'll be able to eat gyros again, and that will be a great day.

  • Justin W.

Gas station flavor and quality at higher prices. Pretty lackluster effort on the dogs especially, the hamburgers are no better. I actually think the staff is nice, food comes out quick. Not much to say other than just plain below average.

  • Adam L.

The Clark Street Dog is everything that a late night eatery should be: greasy, disgusting, and delicious. It's cash only, but totally worth a trip to the nearest ATM. My friend, who loves Chicago dogs, insists on coming here every time he's in town.

    (5)
  • Jill S.

I've only been here sober once.. but I liked it all the same. I generally stick to the hotdogs... and they are tasty, eat in or take home, so thats a plus. Also, the fries are solid and they give you more than enough. Do not recommend the fried chicken dinners, nor the hamburgers really. But, the philly cheese steaks are delicious too. GREAT late night food, and have a bar area if you want to go during the day to grab a snack and watch the game.

I literally live across the street, and I have been here between 10-15 times. It is a very easy place for me to end up at the end of the night and a good place to run into people I haven't seen in years. Best item: Philly Cheese Steak, maybe the best one I have had in Chicago is here, I love how this tastes, either drunk or sober. Disliked: Italian Beef... the bread was way too soggy and I asked for a few peppers, but I don't know if the guy wasn't listening but loaded them on, I think my mouth burned for a good two days after that. Good while drunk, not when sober: Cheese fries, wow, so amazing late at night and they give you a lot. Prices: You would expect a dive like this to have dirt cheap prices, but it always seems a simple meal ends up costing $11, I guess it is no big deal when you buy it at the time, but when you wake up the next morning hung over, wondering where much of your money went, my guess is a good portion went to the Clark Dog. The restaurant has a feeling that there could be health violations, but I still love it, it has character, and I will continue coming back. So if I could give it 3.75 stars I would, but for a four stars I feel you have to be good when both drunk and sober!

  • Lesley G.

If you want a grease joint, this place does the trick. I had a philly cheese steak here the other day that was quite delightful. Lots of meat, could have had more cheese but it was an okay amount, good amounts of onion and peppers. And the fries were made fresh for my order, so that was awesome. And cheap. Not bad.

This is the kind of Chicago dive that's obviously been here a while, and subsequently the people working here don't even remotely bother to act like they give a shit about you when you're ordering, paying or eating. In fact, I wanted to smile and tell the old lady "working" the cash register to cheer up... but something in her eyes said I'd NEVER get my Diet Coke if I did. Average food (the usual hot dogs/burgers/gyros/etc.), prices slightly inflated for being some sort of greasy "institution." One bonus: a wee parking lot.

LOooooooove this place. The bartender was so nice, and it was a great little spot to grab a beer. I wish we would've grabbed some food as well, but there's always next time! :) the 2.00 beers are small, and it's bud light, but oh well!

Nice spot for a quick bite to eat. The food isn't anything special but they're really quick. If you're craving a quick Chicago dog, italian beef sandwich or some french fries, and you're in the area, this may be a good spot.

Maybe it was thirteen hours of drinking, but I thought this place was amazing...based simply on the pizza puff. It is one of the best things I have ever eaten. Seriously. It was one of the few moments of clarity I had during the late hours of Saturday. The sausage I had was OK, but nothing compared to that pizza puff.

My child has been a patient at Children's Memorial on and off for the past three years and when my son is admitted, the question becomes: What do we eat?!? Being a native of Chicago, I love a good hotdog joint sand I am on a never ending quest to find the best joint and the dogs they serve up. I take pride in educating my kids, especially my son, on what a good dog consists of and what make a good dog stand. With that being said, I yelped to see what was close to Children's and I decided with some hesitation I would try Clark Street. Boy was that a big mistake. - I ordered a polish: can you say wimpy? The bun was cold and not steamed and the supposed star, the brat, was nothing compared to Jim's down by Maxwell St. It was a "girly man" of a link as Hanz and Franz of SNL fame would say. -My son wanted a corn dog and what can I say, I can't say much because as my son said, it's just a corn dog. I can't really knock it, seeing it was from Sam's club or some other distributor that every stand uses. At least it was cooked. -Pizza puff. Again, there are probably a few pizza puff distributors that dog stands get them from, but this puff was soggy and luke warm in the middle. A good puff is hot and crispy on the outside and hot and gooey on the inside. -Cheese Fries. Yuck! The fries were undercooked and were limp as a 90 year old man without viagra! Sorry for that illustration. Enough said. I feel sorry for my son for my nearsightedness for bringing this bunch of goo to him in the hospital as he is battling cancer. This place stinks. I would suggest the Flub a Dub Chubs, even though this may not be your classic hotdog stand or even The Chicago Dog House on Fullerton with it's spiral drilled fries. Stay away from Clark St Dog, unless you grab a beer/drink at the adjacent bar and get wasted to the point you can't differentiate what's good and bad. Ta lah!

I stopped in here before a wedding and during a rainstorm. I wanted to grab a bite to eat so that I would not bury the buffet at my friend's wedding. Came in and ordered a double hot dog which cost $3.79, add some pop on top and it's about $5. The bogus thing is that the dog did not come with any fries and it looked like a Greek run joint as they did not take debit card and just had an ATM on the side. I got my food in quick order and slid over to the bar side of Clark Street Dog and watched some of a ballgame on a decent TV. It was a fully stocked bar connected to Clark Street dog and there was Scrabble Junior, Othello, Connect Four and another board game behind the bar, but I am not sure if the games were for public use.

This place has become my second home. Dank food, good drink, and good people. It's hard to beat this place due to ambiance alone. There's nothing specific to review as it's your typical late night drunk food but I've ordered polish sausage, hot dogs, burgers, and cheese fries from this place and they all hit the spot nicely at 3 am.

I swear Chicago food is just crazy and loaded and Chicagoans love to eat and drink. My cousin suggested this place during my visit to Chicago and specifically told me to get the Chicago dog. So I did....... For the price that I paid...I got a whole shitload of food. First of all, the hot dog was huge and it was loaded with a pickle, tomatoes, cheese, onion, and some kind of spice that added zest to the dog. And to complement it, I had a side of Chili cheese fries which were awesome! The place is located in a busy area of Chicago, close to Wrigley Field which was having a Cub's game the day I came here. But the good thing about Clark Street dog is there is a parking lot reserved for customers only, so that came in handy since the area was swamped with people. The thing was so good that I ended up buying another one..to go. No wonder i gained 6 pounds and had to go down one hole on my belt after my trip to Chi-town. Too bad we don't have anything like this here in overly health conscious California.

  • Matthew S.

As authentic as it gets. This isn't Hot Doug's. This isn't a tourist destination. This is where someone who knows the city will take you to get a no-nonsense dog, tamale, beef, you name it. Tell the guy behind the counter to dunk the beef, and he'll dunk the beef in the hot au jus grease that's been simmering for hours. He'll dunk the whole fucking thing. That's a health code violation in California. Go here for steamed dogs. Go to Wiener's Circle down the way for grilled.

Great Bar. Unpretentious. Not a Sports Bar. Neighborhood. Nothing Fancy. Clean. Classic Chicago bar. No mixologists here, "crafting" anything. It's a bar. The staff is extremely friendly. Comfortable modest space. Fake wood paneling reminds you of mid-70"s basement drinking. Have a dog. Have a pickleback. Stop whining.

  • Torry S.

Food is nice, lots of space to eat, including the sports bar adjacent to the restaurant portion. Service is ok, the manager guy is nice. Their hot dogs taste really good and their burgers are good too. Looks like their claim to fame is philly cheese steak but I'm not a cheesesteak kind of guy so I can't comment on that. I could imagine fumbling onto this place after a drunken night partying and it being awesome. SO there you go.

Overheard at the counter, by the customers before me...definitely 100% sure: "could i add some onions please?" "no. $0.50 extra." "what? $0.50 for extra onions?" The food is just okay for me.... nothing special here...

  • Ben E.

I don't really mind the service, but this place simply doesn't make genuine Chicago-style hot dogs. Yeah, I suppose they use Vienna Beef products, but they definitely do not use hot dogs with natural casings, as any real Chicago-style stand would insist upon. Moreover, the hot dog buns are somewhat flimsy, and definitely not the traditional poppy seed buns. Finally, Clark Street Dog uses frozen fries. Freshly hand-cut fries are by far my preference, and it's always a disappointment to see a place that goes with frozen...such a lack of flavor and texture... I'm just not a fan of this place as far as its hot dogs go.

Greasy. Fast. Delicious. Cheap. Having lived next to Clark Dog for over two years, I've had many chances to sample the menu. In my experience, you can usually tell how good a hotdog place is going to be by how awesome their cheese fries are. Clark Dog, you didn't let me down. Maybe it was because 85% of the time I frequented Clark Dog I was hammered beyond all recognition, but those cheese fries always had me coming back for more. The fries are golden and not over-fried. They are of medium thickness, depfinitely not a McDonald's size, definitely not steak fry worthy. The cheese is the standout to this dish though...a good cheese can be hard to find. It's thick without being goopy, mild and piping hot. They offer it smothered all over the fries in a good size basket, or (for the diet conscious, really?) you can get it in a small plastic cup on the side. Somehow I don't find that as appealing. :) Overall, 3 stars for the fries, 4 stars for the cheese. Together, a good solid 4.

These guys make a pretty decent chilli dog and cheese burger, but the real attraction is the people watching. At Clark St. Dog, it can be an experience. The drunken one liners, the hot dogs, the buns, the polish sausage envy, the sloppy good natured inebriates, the bubbly big bosomed Trixie's and their horny toad Chad's, the middle-aged Al Bundy's who think they still got it (both on the field and in the bedroom), the crazy's, the freaks, the scum of Wrigleyville and the panty wastes of Lincoln Park. "Welcome to Clark Dog, folks. Can I take your order?"

Definitely one of my favorite spots for late-night food. Try to Italian Beef Sandwich!

Okay, you're cash only, not a problem. What? You're mumbling. Don't glare at me because I asked what MumblePants. Where's the mozz? My italian sausage prefers to be wrapped in mozz. Napkins are a privilege. This is greasey and tasty in my mouth, you win there. MumblePants wished me a good day. I think.

I love Clark St. Dogs, but specifically for one thing: the breakfast menu, specifically the Hangover Cure Sandwich. It is a double cheeseburger with delicious hash browns and topped with a fried egg and it is marvelous. Unfortunately I haven't been as impressed with their other food items. The Philly, which they claim is the best, is really mediocre, especially with Philly's Best offering a better one up the street, and I find their regular burgers to be too dry. Why 4 stars then? Because the Hangover cure is just that good. Plus it's nice that any time day or night the same lady is at the counter. I think she lives there.

I thought for a while that I was going to bankrupt supporting my bf's Chicago dog habit. Once he discovered this gem, he was craving it every day. I'm not a wiener kinda gal, but I must confess that the dipped Italian sausage knocks my socks off. And literally, with the evil pepper and onions, I can only eat 1/2 in one sitting or my sensitive tummy is churning. So I don't mind dragging an out of towner here for the ambiance and the Chicago dog experience, but I had to nip this dog addiction of my bf's in the bud. We made a pact that as long as I keep all of his/Clark St.'s numerous dog toppings on hand, he would make them at home. I couldn't find the giardiniera at Jewel. Stanley's had some and it's good, although it's a little more mild than fire-breathing Clark's. Totally worth it. As for the bar, I usually get a cheap Old Style bottle with my snashage. Once, I went in a smoked a clove at the rail. The bartender claimed that he smokes 3.5 packs a day, but cannot stand those noxious cloves and asked me to put it out. I obliged and he was so happy that I didn't argue with him that he bought me and my 2 friends a shot a Cuervo.

Can't stomach their hot dogs and italian beefs even as drunk food.
