I haven't been to Bellweather for several months and was pleasantly surprised. They have added to the menu, but kept some old favorites. There is much more variety now. They also upgraded their beer menu, with a widse range of choices on tap. Our service was good, and the new comfy chairs are a definition te improvement over the old booths. Still a little pricey, but a nice place to stop in on short notice.

Nice ambiance and good food that was priced beyond its value. I had the Bellwether Jalapeno burger (thick, spicy and juicy), really good. My wife had mussels (she liked) and my buddy and his wife shared the pork chop (he liked) ceviche (nothing special), and a Bellwether Jalapeno burger. Overall, it was a nice experience, but the service is slow (20-25 min wait for a beer).

We stumbled upon this place and the chiliquillias were delish. Great atmosphere. Very reasonable pricing. Offer special mimosa and bloody pricing on Saturday and Sunday brunch.

Leo-if you expect bread before your meals and you don't approve of house music then you may want to try Olive Garden. Other then that food was great! Owner and wait staff were very attentive. With any new opening of a restaurant it will have its flaws but they were minute that we barely noticed. The "techno" music is way better than elevator music anytime. I'm glad they opened up and Pj Clark's closed down.

Bellwether Group (Columbus @ Illinois) Meeting House and Eatery-Nick the owner, Gabby, the bartender. Formerly PJ Clark's. Same owner as the Vinyl on Hubbard. Becomes a lounge at night with music on weekends. Owner wants a neighborhood place that also appeals to hotel guests. He's still tweaking the menu after 10 weeks. Open till 3 am. Long hall entrance style chicly decorated. Romantic upstairs section. I had the French Onion Bread which is a take off on soupe à l'oignon. It needs work. The menu looks like it's all over the place. I wish them luck.

Excellent bar and great food with great service and very fair prices. Great vibe and decor and with good music. Classy yet not too formal Great food too with great presentation. Loved the asparagus tempura yet great wings too. We will definitely b back!!!!

This plush, upscale newcomer is a stylish addition to the Streeterville neighborhood. A ton of work went into remodeling the old P J Clarke space and it shows. It occupies a prime corner down the block from AMC River East theaters. How many times did you need a place to chill before a movie or to come for a bite to eat afterwards? This might be the place. The bar is a long and comfortable place to drink, eat and argue about movies. They make a decent martini, although they serve them in the wrong glass and they don't have stuffed olives (yet). A designer cocktail menu is promised. The night I visited it was all about appetizers. Really fabulous were a shrimp ceviche and fries with aoli sauce. Also top of the line were shrimp cocktail, a plate of marinated olives, foie gras on toast, and humus with marinated red peppers. There were no losers. Really, after a succession of small plates like that, dinner is almost beside the point. There were some rough edges to the service, especially at the bar, but for the most part the servers seemed friendly and eager to serve. This place still has a ways to go before it becomes a dependable, reliable neighborhood staple, but in my opinion it could just happen.

I'd regularly gone to eat at PJ Clark's when catching a movie at River East and this was the first time I'd had a chance to check this place out. My first impression was definitely a bit mixed. We arrived and got seated right away (it was an early Thursday evening and not too busy). After looking over the cocktail menu, my friend and I each ordered a cocktail and then looked over the food menu. The waitress came back with my friend's cocktail but not mine. I asked about it, and realizing her mistake, went to get that addressed after taking our order for food. Waitress comes back with my cocktail but this time it is the wrong one. Finally on the third attempt, I get the right cocktail and it was good (Manhattan for the record). So soon after we get our cocktails, our salad arrives (we were splitting it). It was good and the dressing they used on the side salad was quite flavorful. however, barely a couple minutes after getting the salad, they brought out our meal. I'm all for fast service, but would be nice to wait til we finish one course before bringing the other. I had the Penne, which was really good, and my friend had the sliders which were decent, but nothing too exciting. Then we had the next bit of "too fast" service. My friend offered me her third slider, and so I picked that up and, while we were both eating a slider, they came and took the plate it was on without asking. My plate had already been cleared, and so we actually had no plate available to set the sliders down on should we want to. So overall the food and drinks we had were good but the service left a lot to be desired. I'd suspected the place had opened very recently and they were working the kinks out but apparently it's been open since late last year. Not a good sign. Overall it seems an adequate replacement for PJ Clark's as a place to meet up and grab a bite before a movie, but it's nothing to really seek out for sure.

The food was fine, but the service sucked. We arrived before 6p but had to wait for our waiter for longer than appropriate. When he arrived, it was 6:02p and he wouldn't "give us" the half off appetizer happy hour that ended at 6p. He then overcharged us for the appetizer we inevitably ordered--too which the hostess said would be complicated to correct with the manager. 2 salads + 2 glasses of wine + hummus = a $70 date night. Bummer.

Two stars but I will say the bartender service was impeccable. I ordered the asparagus, which Is normally thin, and light tempura. This was deeply deeply battered and fried. Plate came out a deep fried soggy mess dripping in mayonnaise sauce. Even the bartender said "whoa... That's not right". I was hungry and had a few minutes to eat so dealt with it. Ends weren't cut off the asparagus, so I ended up cutting off 1/3 of the stalk and peeling off all the breading and mayo. I asked for bread and butter- holy crap. That's when I finally figured it out, this place is the same kitchen that services room service for the hotel. I got four thin stale slices of frozen and microwaved bread, and a frozen tin of butter. You could taste the refrigerator/freezer burn. Anyway, I like this place and am hoping for the best b/c this neighborhood could use a fun spot. They need a better kitchen situation, I'm curious if the service the hotel too... Oh my friend got fish tacos to go, they were good! Not incredible but I'll definitely get those next time!

Horrible service. I live in the neighborhood and have been here several times. I haven't yelped before giving them a pass for being new and working out some kinks. Unfortunately the kinks never get worked out. Ridiculously understaffed always, even when they are not busy. So slow that I've actually walked out and gone elsewhere. The waitstaff actually seems to be hoping to be sent home early instead of giving service to the customers who are waiting and waiting and waiting. Staff gives major attitude! If you question them on the game playing on the giant TVs, or why they come and just steal a chair from your table without asking, or to flag them down to try to get service--ATTITUDE! They have no identity--are they a sports bar with the giant TVs, or a lounge with the DJ spinning dated music, or a mediocre restaurant that has no specialty? Each time I go I somehow hope that this replacement for PJ Clarkes will improve and sadly I am underwhelmed every time. Nick--are you listening to these bad service reviews?

Thanks Jeff for giving me the run down of the place. Sorry about the water damage. Glad you guys are back up and running. Glad I have a place to go after work that's open late to grab a snack and a drink.

Like others that have reviewed the establishment, the decor is spot on. I too agree that the booths are an issue. They look great but without a buffer between them when the party behind moves, and in my case a very large individual I could feel it. It was more of an annoyance then anything else. The food is good just nothing jumps out as outstanding. I live in the neighborhood and will be back.

Bellwether is the epitome of "meh." Everything was fine, but nothing was great (or really even good). I will say that the atmosphere is relaxed and kind of cool (if confusing - mural of man in a top hat + TVs playing football + christmas tree + empty fish pools = ????). The mussels were delicious, but already getting cold when they arrived. Ditto for the french fries. The tuna in the tuna crudo was nice, but the accompanying greens were soaked in dressing. The pirogies were cold, greasy, and undercooked (I know they should be quite soft in the middle, but this was crossing the line). The lamb plate was probably one of the better dishes - beautifully plated, but the taste didn't quite match up. The beer list is limited and there is no spirits list or speciality cocktails, which is a shame because this is the kind of place that could be saved by a solid bar. The service was odd, too. Our waiter was helpful and nice, but we only saw him at the very beginning and very end of our meal - our food was brought by very awkward and confused busboys who dropped a lot of silverware. If the prices here were cheaper, I might feel like 3 stars were in order since nothing was really outright horrible (except perhaps the pirogies), but at this price in this area, I unfortunately can't see Bellwether staying long.

Bellwether is a stone's throw from my crib in River East. I welcomed this watering hole with open arms as decent, not incredibly touristy restaurants are few in my immediate vicinity. The interior is decorated impeccably. The owner either has quite the knack for style or a talented interior designer did a wonderful job. It's sleek, modern, with slightly feminine touches like the lights with floating crystals mixed with beautiful wood floors and tables. Now to my sad face, the food did not live up to the interior which I adore (Can you tell?). My sis and I started with the pierogi. They were potato with onion inside. Next came the kale and beet salad. It is a generous portion. The salad lacked something and was not quite as good as other kale beet salads Ive eaten. Next we had the short ribs. A bit dry. The kitchen cranked out each dish quickly and the server did a wonderful job. That being said, I am not giving up hope. I will return to gaze up at the gorgeous crystals floating above my head and the beautifully stone covered beam with a cocktail in my hand. What's a bellwether you ask? Bellwether: 1. a wether male sheep that leads the flock usually wearing a bell 2. a person or thing that assumes the leadership or forefront, as a profession or industry I do not know if Bellwether is the forefront in what went in my mouth. The aesthetic appeal grabs you in and then you quickly realize there is not substance. Kinda like a lot of men. Such as life.......

I see a lot of mixed reviews for this place, but I am a fan. It's kind of corporate designed gastropub with just enough tv's to keep the hotel crowd happy. The booths are really comfortable. We had great service and excellent food. I recommend the lamb and the root vegetable soup. The calamari was not that great. There are not that many good places to eat in Streeterville and Bellwether Meeting House & Eatery was actually a lot better than I expected. This establishment appears to be entirely ADA compliant, which is a nice change.

There were some high points at Bellwether and some low ones. I'll try to summarize as best I can. Highs: - Location. I had friends in town staying at the Embassy Suites connected to the restaurant and so location was ideal and very convenient. - It was easy to make a reservation just a few hours beforehand for a party of 8 which was nice. - The apps were all very good (we ordered the Pork Belly, Spinach Feta Spring Rolls, and the Asparagus Tempura). I now am always going to be on the lookout for fried asparagus! - I ordered the Lamb Burger and was very happy with my choice - good size, flavor and texture. Fries weren't half bad either. - Decor. I thought it was pleasantly decorated and appeased to the higher end crowd but had reasonable options and prices. Lows: - My friend ordered the Stuffed Chicken Breast and part of it was raw. Not even a little pink but legit raw. She had already eaten a portion of it that was cooked fine but that was not very encouraging or appetizing to any of us to see. Also, we had to make an effort to ask for us not to be charged for it when we were waitin for the bill, when it seemed that the waiter should have automatically apologized and informed us of that right when it was brought to his attention. - My sister ordered the Penne Alla Vodka, and her and I did a halfsies with her pasta and my burger. The pasta was alright, had a definite spiciness to it which was good but the sauce seemed to stick to the pasta and seemed like it was not freshly made but just reheated. - Our waiter. Oh our waiter. He was a nice slightly older gentleman however his service seemed off throughout. He took a few drink orders then disappeared and didn't ask the rest of the table what we'd like to drink. His handling of the undercooked chicken was not as responsive as I feel it should have been. Also trying to get our bills sorted out was an event. Now I totally understand that doing separate checks is a pain. I get it. However we asked him before we ordered if we could do that and he said we could. Then when we were waiting for the bill he went around and asked what we all had, which he should've notated when he took our order. So we tell him and wait but he continues to come back and re ask us. Then he returns with half the table's checks and they have the wrong orders on them. It took us a good 30 minutes from the time he asked us (again) what we ordered until we were able to leave. I almost don't know if he spoke a lot of English but there was just massive confusion all around with him. All in all I'd say eat here if you need to for convenience but there's many places in this city with better food and service. It served our purpose for the night but I wouldn't return if I had other options.

The food was good- the service was attentive ... BUT watch out for your BAR BILL ...they like to charge you for more drinks than you actually had- and then the management treats you like you are lying about it.

  • Ermelinda C.

Conveniently located near the AMC, nicely decorated and lovely ambiance, good - not great- food, and decent service. However, from the setup and all, I expected a little more... Bellwether is just an A-OK restaurant in my opinion!

  • Richard C.

Overpriced food and mediocre service by waitress who didn't listen. We swung by after catching a movie at the nearby AMC and were seated promptly. Decor was upscale and very well done. But that's about all the positives. We ordered three different dishes - one of them, steak tacos came with so many onions my friend's breath would have stunk for days. She had asked for a side of queso, but the waitress forgot - when we reminded her, the waitress brought out sour cream. We gave up after that. My other friend had the beef tenderloin sliders which he enjoyed. I ordered a chicken avocado wrap that, I guess, included "bacon" in the form of a few crumbs and an ailoli. This wrap that was stuffed with so much lettuce I could barely taste anything else in the sandwich. I suspect that the way they keep costs down is by shoving your food with as much cheap produce as possible to skimp on using more expensive proteins. Asked for the check, waitress was confused on how to split it up. Entirely underwhelmed by the experience. Won't be back as there are many other options in Chicago to try.

We had grandsons with us on a chilly Chicago weekend -- and this was a wonderful find. Next to the Embassy Suites hotel and the AMC theater, I predict a good future for this new restaurant. We ate here a couple of times -- once just desserts with the kids. Menu not extraordinary, but plenty of options available. Service was good, even on a night when the place was packed. Waitress one night was ill-prepared, but it worked out. The food is not gourmet, but certainly OK for the price level. This used to be one of the PJ Clarke spots in town. The old place was ordinary. This one is beautiful -- lots of money put into the renovation. Late-night service is a plus.

Decor was nice and service was good , the food was lousy . We had pork chops that were super dry and blah and scallops that tasted like they were rolled in salt

  • Amanda L.

Good selection, very reasonable prices for the meals. Lots of options. If you are not a drinker and you are looking for an easy dinner, this place is great. My food was out quite fast as well. For the drinkers, they make up the difference at the bar it seems. A well Bloody Mary, $10 someplace where my dinner cost $12? That seems a little out of whack, especially for mix from a bottle. Regardless my dinner was good and the ambiance was nice. A great change from going to a steak place when on the road. One last note. They have a menu for people with gluten sensitivities, great news! For those of us with other food issues or allergies like my milk allergy, no menu and no help. I was able to find safe food, but not an allergy friendly place.

Great late night bite place, I would give the pulled pork sliders a try.

Hip place with good drinks. We stopped in for a drink and dessert and ordered the chocolate cake. While the description sounded amazing the product was underwhelming- very bad, the cake didn't even have frosting?!?!!! WTF why have a dessert of sponge-ie bread? Pro tip: when people order cake they expect frosting.

  • Joshua C.

Honestly I was bummed out that PJ Clark's closed down. I had grown accustomed to the large portion home cooking and no frills table clothes. Bellwether is a different deal all together - giant open air concept and a semi-club style atmosphere. Late night alcohol license also helps if you're a night owl like I am. Besides the decor people make the difference of course and that's why they get 5 stars. Jason the manager couldn't be a nicer person, he makes everyone feel right at home and I expect this place to be a Streeterville landmark.

Great experience from pre-dinner cocktails to seated dinner. Attentive service. Fantastic appetizers and enjoyable entrees. Warm decor and diverse unpretentious crowd. Owner/manager very visible and concerned about guest experience. Highly recommend.

Food was good. Definitely not a kid friendly menu. They have a kid menu but in name only as it is the exact same food and portions an adult would eat. Overall pretty good if you are doing an afternoon get together with friends but nothing that really impressed me and definitely don't bring your kids.

I was a little hungry after a Yankees Cubs game and since I was staying at the Embassy suites in the same building, I decided to stop in. We ate here because it was raining and its located within the building of our hotel. We wanted hamburgers and got meatloaf on a bun and cooked twice fries. Our waiter was excellent and so was my beer. Would not go back.

Some of the worst food I've eaten in Chicago! We started off ordering pierogi (the waiter said they don't have them anymore), stuffed peppers (nothing special), marinated olives (just a bowl of olives with no spice whatsoever), & the whipped potatoes (not bad, but not great ). The worst part was the entrees--both kinds of gnocchi and the cheese tortellini, all overlooked, previously frozen disasters. And it certainly wasn't cheap!! What a waste. Disgusting.

I was excited to try the Bellwether because it is very close to my apartment and the menu looked good. A friend and I went on a Monday night and sat outside where we waited about 15 minutes for a server to come to the table - not a big deal they may have been busy inside or understaffed - but when our waiter finally approached us there was no greeting or apology he asked if "we knew what we wanted". My friend began ordered and asked for water which he rudely interrupted and said it's coming. We ordered two appetizers the buffalo spring rolls and french onion bread which were really good only we again had to wait for napkins, silverware and plates. Our salads came out shortly after which were ok nothing special but not bad and decent portion sizes. Our waiter never came back to check on us so we asked the busboy for a box and placed a dessert order with him; for dessert we got the cookie skillet, a very popular dessert items on most restaurant menus so we knew it would take about 15-20 mins for preparation. 20 minutes later our waiter returned with dessert menus asking if we'd like to look at them to which we explained we already ordered 20 minutes ago, he went back in and about 5 minutes later comes out and rudely explained that it would take 20 minutes to prepare. Finally we received our dessert and promptly asked for the bill. The food was good and I would like to go back but I was extremely disappointed in the service; I am a server and I understand what it's like to be busy or understaffed but there is no reason to not greet a table or be polite.

Stopped in for a quickie bite during the week before a early movie. I was pleasantly suprized they offer happy hour prices on hot appetizers during the week...It took the waiter a bit of time to come back to take my order (after his initial first stop by) and it wasn't busy..I found myself looking around for him. I ordered an appetizer only as I was jotting back to the film festival on limited time. Buffalo wings came out hot and actually pretty decent. Typical wings fare with the carrots and celery and ramikan of blue cheese. Nice portion for the money even full price I would say. I saw a few plates coming out for the sliders etc. that also looked OK. I'd certainly recommend happy hour here you can't beat it!

I call these kind of places "Xerox Restaurants". It tries to copy elements from successful restaurants for the sole purpose of making money - I.e., tricking you into thinking it's something that it's not. The problem with making a copy is that you lose the detail that made the original, well, original. It's location and it's "theme" suggests that it's basically a Robert Irvine wet dream. Focus grouped, corporate restaurant with nothing new to offer. And what they do offer is uninspired. The name: clearly trying to hop on the trend of naming your restaurant after a place from Sweeney Todd (Howell and Hood, Longman and Eagle, Trencherman, etc.) THERE'S A KOI POND! Wait, is it a koi pond? I don't know...it's empty. The enormous LED chandelier belongs at a place like the Langham. Giant mural of a guy in a top hat. Whimsy. Service - it's ok. Not particularly friendly, not particularly attentive. Newish place and still working out the kinks. Food - imagine profoundly mediocre versions of dishes from places like Publican, Perennial, etc. The beets in the beet salad were clearly not very fresh and were prepped much earlier in the day. There's a "chickpea puree" and flatbread. Dude. Just call it what it is. Hummus and pita. The steak was fine. Look, I wasn't going in here expecting to get my socks blown of. But at least a decent meal before going to a movie. I was at least hoping that their version would at least be close - turns out it's just a bad copy. I would only recommend this place to you if your out of town family insist on going to Navy Pier, they want a nicer atmosphere, there's no room at The Quay, and you don't really care about the food being decent. CAVEAT - I know this place is new and I went in during the 6 month gray area where they're still working out the kinks. I'll revise this review if I make it back and it's better.

Since this is a meeting house I felt obliged to meet some friends here. We ordered some drinks and some people ate. The burgers looks very nice. The atmosphere is kind of romantic with low lighting. Seats comfortable, loud music. More upscale than I am used to, probably catering to hotel guests.

It was al just okay. The server was okay, but didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert. My main course was good, but the vegetables were oily and under cooked and the chicken was salty.

While the food was good (not great, not terrible), the cocktails were great and the service was spotty. The decor is fun and the lighting is spacious. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. But it is next to the movie theater so it could happen.

We enjoyed a delicious brunch at this friendly and beautiful space this morning. In an area occupied by hotels and only a block from the bustle of Michigan Ave what a find was Bellwether. In fact, we are returning for dinner! A refreshing and well-planned menu suitable even for vegans, the presentation and grace of food and service blew us away. Go!'

    (5)
  • Dave C.

Tried Bellwether for the first time at lunch today. Not a good sign when there is no one else in there at lunch time. Used to love PJ Clarke's so was interested in seeing what they could do. In short, they need help quickly. Mac and cheese shareable was bland. French onion bread is like French onion soup that they serve with bread and you are supposed to scoop it up perhaps? Meh. Chicken salad has almost no chicken and way too many peanuts and tiny raisins that resemble mouse poop. Add more veggies!!! Cheese burger was boring and served on a bun straight from a food service company. Make it a signature burger on a fresh made bun and add more ingredients like they do at burger bistro down the street. Sadly, we will likely not return. Too many other options in this neighborhood with much more creative food choices. Too bad. This could have been a neighborhood favorite.

  • Nick F.

What can I say -- I came into this place with high hopes thinking it would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood...boy was I wrong. Where do I begin? Well, let's start with the management...they are pretentious, incompetent, and just plain rude. When I complained about a hair in my food the manager on duty refused to do anything and said that "those things happen" in a kitchen...obviously that's unacceptable by any person's standards. Now, onto to the bartenders...they may be worse the managers. I asked them for some simple cocktails for my friends and I, in return I received two drinks that did not follow the recipe, and one that was simply disgusting -- both fifteen minutes late. What are these drinks you ask? Two simple old fashioneds and one straight shaken martini. All in all, do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs!

Beautiful decor !!!! We came for new years eve and stayed till 4 am!!! Service was spot on, our waitress was very attentive. We had shrimp and scallope; it was excellent! We ordered kale salad - jackpot!!! What was a big surprise is a check! This place turned out to be a casual place without a big high price tag. you can actually come and have nice drink or dinner and enjoy your stay instead of stressing about your wallet! I would recommend it for any Chicago visitor like myself. I have to mention that is steps away from navy pier and mag mile what makes it been more desirable !!!"

I live in Michigan and was visiting Chicago. We went to Bellwether to relax and enjoy our company and we got so much more!!!!!! This is an upscale restaurant that couldn't be cozier. We were very comfortable there, with the wonderful staff and never had to wait for anything. The food is phanominal and I would love to be able to have this place in Michigan!! The beef sliders were amazing and the baklava cheesecake is unbelievable!!!!! I couldn't have asked for better place to enjoy my visit while in Chicago. The decor is beautiful and unique. The staff made us feel like we were royalty and the music was refreshing and unique as well. Usually you go to a place and hear the same ole stuff. But as Bellwether is not only decorated differently but has the best respectful staff, cleanliness, and amazing food and deserts!!!! I would definitely go back and honestly would be fine going nowhere else but here!! Thank you Bellwether for the great experience and know we WILL be back for some of that cheesecake=)

Decided to check out this newly opened restaurant with some friends tonight. Now given that it's only a few days old, but we had high expectations and it ended up being one bad experience. First, we were seated, given water and menus. Then the time passed, and passed. We were completely ignored -- a half empty restaurant with numerous waiters idling by, and we were simply ignored, despite signaling that we were ready to order. Not knowing who our assigned waiter or waitress was, we ended up picking one at random and asked him to take our order -- it turned out to be the wrong one. He took our order and then passed it to the correct waitress, who kindly decided to come by the table to bring the food when it was ready, where she had no idea who made which order, and never bothered to ask. We ordered appetizers (tuna crudo, beets salad). The tuna crudo was passable, the beets salad was atrociously plain. Our entrees were 1/2 Chicken, which was decent, the Ribeye 14oz -- decent but nothing to brag about and far from being worth $42, and the Scottish Salmon, which came undercooked. After pointing the fact that the salmon was still raw to the waitress, she promptly offered a replacement entree or to remove the entree altogether. We asked for a replacement entree. She came back minutes later returning the *same* plate. When we inquired about that, she said she was sorry, that she would tell it to the manager, and that the check would reflect an adjustment. No adjustment was ever made. At the point where we got our check, we just wanted to leave, and never bothered to ask again about it -- it was just awkward. During the entire experience, the restaurant's apparent manager idly stood by a few feet away, did not bother to approach us, and did nothing to check how his customers were doing. Neither the manager no the waitress asked us about the food, offered us the option to order additional wine or drinks, or tried to make the experience more enjoyable. You would think that a restaurant on its opening week would try to make a memorable experience for its patrons -- our was quite memorable, but in a negative way. Some other minor things ended up being bothersome. No bread was ever served with our meal. The dishes are curved, which is an awful, awful choice -- our silverware kept falling off the plates onto our laps -- why in the world would you choose such dishes? The music (Skrillex and electronic variety) did not fit the design of the place and created an odd atmosphere. Overall a bad experience from the basics to the complex. Will not be a patron here again.

Stopped in for drinks and found it to be average choice in general although better than most in the vicinity. The place was dead at 9:30 and decided to pass on the food.

Came here after the movies and it was too effing cold outside so we ducked inside for a drink at the bar. Cool ambience. Ordered a margarita that was little more than a tequila shot with Gatorade. The old fashioned smoked cocktail was a mixture of liquors from your parents bar with some nasty spices. Bartender was cute though.

Nice environment, but just mediocre burger. Thought to be a safe pick always, but so so in this case. Limited beer selection. No cocktails for the ladies. Service was meh at best.

Bring PJ Clarke's back! We ordered fries (micro-sized), tenderloin sliders (half-cold, weak presentation), and spinach-feta eggrolls (more like spinach eggrolls, couldn't find any feta in there) and a greek salad (with a total of four olives). It took them 30 minutes to bring these. And the place was about 50% full. The plus: we got a discount for the delay. Still extremely overpriced though. Never again.

If you're watching Hawks & Thursday night football on the big screens, when hawks game is over they end the football game on big screen. Well they watch from big screen to "a" Bar TV (37"?) that's poor! After you've had beers, diner and dessert there.

I went here for dinner with colleagues. Bellwether is located in the old P.J. Clarke's space. The renovation is really nice however I forgot about the high ceilings. The background music they were playing was a little loud so it made for louder than normal conversation. Cocktails/drinks were good. Not the best Manhattan I ever had but fine. Appetizers were a bit sparse but good. My colleagues had the Bellwether pasta, lamb sausage, pork chop, salmon, and I had the shrimp and scallops. They liked theirs however mine seemed to be devoid of flavor. They were cooked perfectly with a lovely presentation but they were otherwise meh. Fresh pepper couldn't perk them up. We had the PB&J mousse with a grape gelee that was a bit wrong (the gelee tasted purple) and the triple chocolate dessert which consisted of kind of a bait and switch: chocolate ice cream (which was very good), along with a chocolate mousse and chocolate cake. So the mousse is on the cake and counts as the "triple". Yeah... Would I go back again? On someone else's dime, maybe. On mine, no.

I live down the street, so I was really excited about trying this place and potentially having a new "go to" spot. Good- the atmosphere and music is nice. You can appreciate the remodeling that was done. Bad- the food and service. The menu is decent but they skimped on the ingredients. I ordered the lamb burger and the bun looks like a .99 cent bun from the grocery store. I also ordered the cookies and ice cream dessert and this was just disgusting. The cookies tasted old and the ice cream lacked flavor - hardly worth the $7.00 they charged! If you they are going to be in this area, then they need to step up their game.

This is a solid addition to the hood. Good beer list, awesome food (with lots of options if you have a diverse group), and typically not terribly crowded. As others have said, the service is pretty slow (but very friendly), and it is a bit pricey - but so is everything in Streeterville.

We (my husband & I) stopped by for a late dinner on Thursday evening after seeing a show at the IMAX. We actually hadn't realized it wasn't still PJ Clarke's until we walked up, but figured we'd try it out. I ordered the burger (asked for it medium but it came out more like well) w/ fries and my husband ordered a chicken sandwich. The burger was impressively good... Like so good I'm still thinking about. And that really says a lot considering it was a tad bit more cooked than I usually like. Plus the Aoli... Put a fork in me, I'm done. It was all so good I joined the clean plate club, gladly. The decor is nice and our server was very friendly. The wine is fairly eclectic, which I wasn't at all expecting, so I was pleasantly surprised. Next time we see a movie we will make sure to stop by again to try more of the menu. I want to try the pierogi & the pappardelle.... Yummm.

A friend and I decided to try this place instead of another local option for an after movie dinner. When we walked in we were surprised because the place looked much nicer than we expected. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and since it was not busy, we were asked for our preference of seating which was nice. I had the root vegetable soup and mac and cheese because I'm embracing the cool weather and the comfort food that comes along worth it. The soup was delicious, it looked like baby food but who cares when it's that yummy! The mac and cheese was also good but not the best. My friend had the fish tacos and seemed to enjoy her meal. The only weird thing was that the service seemed to hover, the server was very formal and stood near the table until we were ready to order which made us feel rushed. Overall it was like they were watching our every move, waiting for us to take our last bite so they could remove our plates immediately. My friend and I would have stayed longer, maybe had another glass of wine, but we felt rushed. The place was mainly empty so I can't understand the pressure to finish our meal. Hmmm, anyway, I would go back if it was convenient but it won't be a destination place for me.

Reviewing on getting drinks on a very late Sunday night: Ambiance: BEAUTIFUL! Decorated with the Winter theme, but the blue lighting, and dark cherry wood furniture, made this restaurant gorgeous. It's also huge. With booth, bar, table, and high top tables and I think a private room upstairs. A perfect place to grab a drink before or after heading to the movie theaters. Came in and was greeted by the host with a huge welcoming smile. I came in with my husband and cousin and he asked us if we were in for drinks or food, we said drinks, and he gave us the choice to sit anywhere. A great wine list, and I treated myself to a Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand and it was crisp, a little dry, and delicious, full of aromas. We sat for awhile, got great service all though we didn't order anymore, and had a great conversation with out feeling rushed. A lot of crowd seemed to be the after work crowd, getting off late and meeting with friends. Most people sat at the bar and all though I think it would be a great date place, it seemed like a place where everyone was drinking a little too much, and meeting with friends. I would definitely come back again just because of how elegant the restaurant is.

Came here for a YPNP Chicago Happy Hour and had a ton of fun! My one $6 beer on tap (I don't remember the name) was large and lasted me the entire evening. Ha! I am a lightweight. Our group had the upstairs area, which was nice. The venue is classy and the servers were relatively helpful for our large group. I don't know how everything else is food-wise, but I'd come back to check it out!

Came here for date night with my baby boo (haha these pet names are lame...hope you the reader enjoy it) before hitting up the movies. For starters I got the French Onion Soup and it was 2 thumbs down. I recommend you skip this. The entrees however were delicious! I got the Bleu Cheese Burger and it was oh so good. My date got the BLT Sandwich on Texas Toast with a fried egg and said it was 4 stars worthy. So there you have it folks. Bellwether...worth a try. French Onion Soup = 1 star Bleu Cheese Burger = 3.5 stars BLT Sandwich on Texas Toast = 4 stars

Inundated with hundreds of Coldwell Banker confectioners at noon, this place handled it with aplomb and quick service. Food was fantastic. 4 of us had Cobb salad, Bellwether BLT, pulled pork sandwich & kale salad w/salmon... all delicious! Friendly & professional staff, great ambiance. Full bar, too!

My timing is really off when I'm on vacations. Between nursing school and Chicago being an hour behind New York time, I was sleeping and waking up at weird times during the day. With that said, on my second night in Chicago, I took a "nap" at 7pm and woke up at midnight. I then realized I had nothing to eat since brunch. We were starving and were disappointed that everything closed around 9pm-2am. We also had to factor in walking and we didn't want to be rushed out of the restaurant. We stumbled across Bellwether because it was the only restaurant opened till 4am (which I take granted for in New York). The restaurant was beautiful and was on the other side of the river from our hotel. Food wise, it was okay. The calamaris were very chewy for whatever reason, the chipotle chicken spring rolls tasted like things you get at Costco, and the beef sliders were okay. I think the best was the truffle fries that came with the burger. However, I appreciate them being open at odd hours during the night for starving people like us. Service was great too!

I came here last night after seeing the fireworks at the navy pier. This place was one of the only restaurants open late. We ordered buffalo spring rolls and truffle fries to share. Both appetizers were good. I ordered a beet arugula salad with skirt steak, goat cheese and pistachios. It was very good, the steak was cooked medium rare. My friend ordered a chicken wrap and another friend ordered the bacon macaroni and cheese. Everyone liked the food and the service was ok. Overall, I would return.

Bellweather Meeting House has very good food. I had the lamb burger here, and it was perfectly cooked with a perfectly toasted bun. The seasoning they use was perfect for a lamb burger, too. The fries are also best of breed here. Service was very good, too. The only downside is they are a somewhat pricier establishment than similar types of places.

Service was fantastic-attentive, prompt, and knowledgeable. Food was great-slightly unique without being too "out there." Very good quality food. I had the pork belly po'boy-which does have pork belly on it, in addition to the ingredients listed. ;) Great, once I removed the pork belly. The French fries may be the best I've ever had.

I stopped in here for a quick nightcap before heading to my parents' place right around the corner. It was ok. I definitely felt like it was pricey for a well drink and a beer, but it's Streeterville so that's to be expected I guess. Place was pretty dead for a Sunday evening but our bartender was super nice!

Hoping for a fun, funky, upscale burger place, we were extremely disappointed. The hostess seated us with food menus, but no drink menu. The place was empty, but even so, our waiter didn't come by for over 10 minutes. We asked for a drink menu and he disappeared again and didn't return again for even longer so we put in our orders with another waitress. Our server came over and asked about the food but did so while walking by our table and didn't even stop to hear an answer. This was absolutely some of the worst service we've ever had. On top of it, the food was mediocre and the drinks were rather bad. The whole time we were there a manager kept walking around but never stopped at a single table to ask how things were going. None of it made sense. Absolutely do not recommend anyone goes there.

Drinks are tasty but Calamari is not. Way too chewy and overpriced. Wouldn't recommend coming back except for drinks.

Fantastic service, loved my drink but can't remember the name of it. It was the perfect balance of sweet with bourbon and garnished with blueberries. The plus to this place is its open late for food and drinks. I had the calamari, and although it could of been more crispy it was still delicious. Also, the ambiance is top notch with the coolest chandeliers. I'll def be back when I'm in the area.

I had high expectations for Bellwether after hearing a friend go on and on about the drinks and food. It doesn't happen often in Chicago, but I've got to say I was pretty disappointed. The craft cocktail my wife ordered was watery, and the black bean burger left us both feeling a little queasy.

What a great place with wonderful staff! I was staying at Embassy Suites and was very happy there was a non-chain restaurant on the first floor. It was so great I ate there two nights in a row! I would have the same thing for 3, 4, 5 etc. nights but I will just be here for 2, this time. George is awesome, paying special attention to my allergies, creating an amazing meal, two times in a row, best part, he remembered my special order on the second visit with no prompting! What fantastic customer attention. The burger is excellent! The steamed veggies were unusually awesome, The staff makes it worth the trip, and they really care! What a breath of fresh air, in the city. Typically my allergies garner chagrin, not here, they are fabulous! An excellent dinner with great service!

Well I can't say I don't miss my old PJ Clarkes which once was housed at this location. Something about that place had charm and character that this new place is lacking. The best way I can describe it is this place lacks soul. Or maybe it's got a bit of an identity crisis as it still figures out what it wants to be. So while parts of it still remind me of the old corner pub that it once was, today there are sparkling chandeliers twinkling overhead, white table cloths but coupled with a menu that still feels more bar-esque. We went before a show at the AMC theater next door. We sat at a high top in the front room which again felt more casual but a bit odd as I looked at the people around me at the linen draped tables. We started with the oysters which were quite good. And my martini? Perfection in a glass. For my entrée I just went with a burger and my friend had the fish tacos. Both came up quickly and were also pretty good. Service was friendly and functional and we were able to get in and out in time to make our movie. All in all a solid experience. I guess I just miss the charm of the old place!

This spot has stolen my heart (and appetite)! Bellwether is open late-night so after a concert at Pritzker Pavilion we were starved and headed over for an amazing and relaxed dinner. The spinach salad with steak is unreal..... I actually had a dream about it the next night and woke up drooling. The flat breads are scrumptious as well, we got the pesto chicken and were practically licking the plate. Bellwether is an absolute must, I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this after a movie at AMC River East. It is definitely a level up from the P.J. Clarke's hamburger joint there previously. There is a stunning crystal chandelier which catches your eye upon entering. It is almost worth the trip. Very much of a higher level from the previous place.White linen tablecloths. We had prompt courteous service on our visit.. For starters we had pulled pork over pretzel rolls which I thought was very creative as well as delicious. For entrees, she had a very tasty gnocchi dish and I went with the red snapper served on a bed of kale with pureed carrot. Very nicely done. The cappuccino was from Lavazza, on of my favorites. I don't remember what we had for dessert, but I do remember that we ate it all. We had an order of the pulled pork on pretzel rolls to go also.

Went here on a Monday night for a late, leisurely business/pleasure dinner with a large group of work colleagues. I loved the decor - very spacious, modern, clean, sophisticated, engaging with a little bit of fun. We were in the upper level, which was not overly noisy that we couldn't have good conversation. But it didn't seem overly noisy downstairs either. Our server George was absolutely GREAT. He was fun with banter as well as knowledgeable about the menu and patient and accommodating with our large group. I had a stuffed meatball on linguini with sauce. The meatball had a captivating grilled/smokey taste. It has haunted me ever since. In a good way. I keep ordering Italian food here and there to try and copy the experience, but all falls short. I intend to finagle a way to get back there. I WANT MY MEATBALL.

Amazing service and awesome food. After being treated horribly by Timothy O'Tools we had one of the best nights we have had. Great service from Colby who advised us on some of the best burgers we have ever had. Please try the jalapeño burger or the lamb burger which were both life changing. The truffle fries were a teaser to the unbelievable culinary experience that we received. We will come back every time we are in the area.

One star was an easy choice and likely the easiest I've had to rate by far. Look, I hate to even rate this place in fear that someone might read this post and go by accident...I would actually feel bad if they had to experience the same disappointment. I've said it before and I'll say it again...if you label yourself a restaurant with a full menu, then act like one and if you have to be really good at just one thing...the food!!! Especially if your located in the heart of Chicago! Here's the simple truth and a reality check for both the owner and head Chef...if it weren't for your location attached to the Embassy Suites, this place would have been gone a loooong time ago! So you ask why all the daggers??? It boils down to food! My order wasn't complicated by any stretch...a simple kale salad with a side of grilled salmon. Now I have to say, I'm in no way, shape or form a professionally trained food critic. What I am is your average restaurant goer with an average palette. That said, it wasn't hard to immediately see that the salmon I ordered looked more like a top shelf chew toy from Pet Smart! If I had to pick things that were similar in texture and taste...hockey puck, plywood, tree bark...you get the picture. Seriously, this is Chicago and done of the best culinary cuisine in North America...DONT waste your taste buds on this place!

Review from a true Chicago foodie: Delicious pork sliders and truffle fries + great sangria! We were a little nervous at first from looking at the reviews, but decided we didn't have much choice since we had tickets to a movie right next door. We got seated right away since the place wasn't packed and service was good (it was Friday night around 7:30). My food was incredible, I asked to get the truffle fries instead of the regular ones and my husband had their blue cheese burger. He said the burger was good, not the greatest, but good. But, what really made me appreciate this place was the price. Food and drinks for both of us was under $50 total. I'm not a huge fan of your typical high-end American bar, because usually food is not the greatest and prices are high, but I'd definitely recommend this place if you're in the area.

We were staying in the embassy suites which this restaurant is connected to the hotel. We went down to have some french onion soup and some drinks. We went in and there were a ton of people both eating and having drinks. We were sat very fast and our waiter was very nice and quick. I don't like heavy alcohol drinks so I asked the waiter what she recommended and she gave me good suggestions. When she came back with our drink she was very nice to even make the drink a little sweeter for me which was very thoughtful. Our drinks were delicious we got a cosmo and I had a pomegranate specialist drink. We ordered our french onion soup and which came out quick and hot. We enjoyed our soup and our drinks. I would definitely come back to this place when visiting Chicago.

Awesome place to eat very quality food. Ryan leads the charge with outstanding service and they are very accommodating. I have a knee injury and they went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. If your in Streeterville it's a must try.

We are visiting Chicago. Got off the hop-on-off bus around 5pm and stopped here for a quick bite. Fast service, delicious salmon steak on top of kale salad, bread and butter...delicious and enough portion for me. Centrally located. Waiter could smile a little...was too cold. Otherwise five *****. Enjoy.

I have not tried the food here, but have only been for drinks. The inside is very pretty. The bar area is spacious and bright. Our service was also good. I ordered the sangria, and found it rather weak and watered down. It was disappointing since the prices here are pretty high. I'll probably give them one more chance, and not order sangria again.

Went in for brunch on a Sunday. The decor was really cool, the service was slow even though it wasn't crowded and the menu was overpriced and not expansive. The mimosas were mostly orange juice and it took forever to get our check and our food came out cold though the Eggs Benedict I'm sure would be good if warm - our server basically could care less. Thankfully the manager was very friendly and helped us out with our issues.

Yes, I did enjoyed P.J. Clarkes, however, it's no longer there. Now it's Bellwether Meeting House & Eatery. Please note... this is an over due review.... The owners certainly did an amazing job of decorating the restaurant with the hanging of the crystals from the ceiling to the brightness of the room to the bar area. I will say, the only negative item are the "booths". The booths are a little uncomfortable. The booth seating will be a little hard to explain so here goes.... the bench is shared between and the guest behind you. When that person moves, you can really feel it. Same with the backing of the booth. The seating can be a little frustrating. I was greeted by the hostess and was sat promptly. The server was very prompt. He went over the menu and took the drink order. When he returned with my beverage, he took my order. I had ordered the cheeseburger (medium). Within the appropriate time, my meal was delivered. The burger was just right. I was surprised how juicy the burger was. No complaints here. The serve did check in without being bothersome. Based on my experience, I would return.

I had a great experience here last week. Was traveling on business and alone by that evening - just happened to walk by and decided to stop in. Sat at the bar and was very well taken care of by both bartenders. I only intended to have one drink, but the intriguing and unique cocktail menu was irresistible (also very reasonably priced compared to other establishments downtown). I ended up having dinner as well and the stuffed chicken on risotto was superb. Would definitely recommend this place and in fact I will make a point to return here on my next visit.

I am happy to report that the Bellwether fills the post-movie-noshing and imbibing void left behind by Fox & Obel (RIP). Located in striking distance of my preferred theater (AMC 21), I stopped in here around 1 pm after taking in the Saturday am viewing of Monuments Men. What can I say, all that wartime violence made me work up an appetite. I decided to perch up at the bar. The cocktail list is definitely on the terse side, but I knew that I wanted a Bloody Mary. The drink came out promptly, which gave me more than enough time to look at the menu. Having done a reconnaissance online, I already had some idea of the food offerings. I went with the pulled pork sandwich, which came with a side of fries. The portions are substantial, with even enough for leftovers. The service itself was attentive, and it seemed like the bartender warmed up to me as a customer as time went on--doubtless, my generous tip and the fact that the place was not packed helped on that score. From looking online, it seems like the happy hour (half-priced hot appetizers from 3-6 pm on weekdays) is a well-kept secret. I will definitely be back here and am hoping this establishment remains viable for the foreseeable future.

Huh, maybe it was the St Patrick's Day buzz that me smiling, but I liked Bellwether! They offered a limited menu, given the foot traffic that day, but I was able to order the ceviche with french fries and it was very tasty. I will say the staff is not very knowledgable. It took about 45 min to get the order. Well, the 2nd time. I asked if the tortilla chips were corn (I'm gf) and they brought them and then no one could confirm if they were corn or flour. I did ask before I ordered btw. In the end, I had to wait another 30 min for them to swap them out for fries... a safer bet. The ceviche was tastey enough though. Or was it the vodka that tasted so good? Oh well, I thought the place was cute and we had a good time there. I'm sure that's not helpful at all!

Remember PJ Clarkes next to AMC River East? Well, the AMC may now be filthy and ghetto and feature broken urinals and patrons that enjoy yapping throughout films but next door has improved. The place is attractive and the staff is attractive. Nice & open and summery. Classic but not stuffy. A nice place to discuss a movie AFTER you leave the crowded theatre.

Fair prices for little better than mediocre food. Staff in short supply and sadly in need of training. Most efficient and courteous were the busing staff. Step up to the competition.

UPDATE 06/0615 - Things are starting to settle down at Bellwether - our recent visit featured a plate of awesome Buffalo Chicken Spring Rolls and a perfectly cooked Blue Cheese Burger ($13). Still, portions are a smattering small for the price. The lighting has certainly improved and, yes, the menu's fonts have been redone and you no longer need a decoder ring to view the menu! Currently open for late night dining, and there's usually a good crowd. Service remains spot-on and we're making this place a regular on our neighborhood rotation. Big flavor, small portions - alas, the place left us longing for more ... more lights, more service...and, especially, more food. Two house drinks, a tiny (itsy-bitsy) app and two portion-challenged entrees set us back $84. The wife and I walked over from our Streeterville apartment at 6:30pm and were immediately seated by the lovely hostess who greeted us. For starters, the place is dark. Damn dark. Cave-in-the-mountains dark. There are some awesome lighting fixtures hanging from above, but there's very little light in the place, overall. And it gets worse when you try to read the wine list; hands down the worst font, color and text-type selection, ever. Fortunately, the waitress noticed we were struggling and she told us the owner was going to have the wine lists and menu reprinted for the upcoming holiday weekend. Our waitress took our drink orders for the bar, returned with ice waters and offered to take our appetizer orders. After debating over the Pierogi, we opted for the Pork Belly with Fried Oysters ($14) - our order came out in mere moments, long before our first round of drinks showed up. I'm still convinced we got someone else's order. Sadly, the pork bellies and fried oysters left us longing for more, literally; there were only three tiny pieces of pork belly, topped with three even tinier fried oysters - think popcorn kernels on top of caramel chews. Despite their microscopic size and inflated price, the flavor was pretty amazing. The corn meal-dredged oysters were perfectly(!) fried, and the sour kimchi was the balanced counter taste to the melt-in-your-mouth bacon-y goodness of the pork belly. Unfortunately, the tiny little nibbles disappeared in a lone bite, and the wife and I were left to carve the remaining third piece up like a toy tea party biscuit. Our bar drinks - a house martini ($10) and Central Coast Merlot ($12)- arrived shortly after we finished our appetizers, so we simply slid in to dinner; at $16, the Gnocchi with Brussel Sprouts, Golden Raisins, Parm and Prosciutto was the highlight of the evening - super tender gnocchi with perfectly roasted sprouts. And while it was a small'ish portion, it was huge on flavor. Unfortunately, the $19 Pappardelle featured one -yes, ONE- perfectly-seared, medium-sized sea scallop (conveniently sliced for sharing - seriously?!) on top of finely-shaved maitake mushrooms in a uber-rich foie gras mousse. Big, big flavor, but itty-bitty on size. Overall, we'll probably come back and try the Lamb Burger that went by our table, as well as the Scottish Salmon.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
