Chicken Bacolod lacks taste, needs to be marinated longer. Pancit palabok is soggy and anemic looking, kare kare is bland and also lacks taste. Batchoy and lumpia cut into 12 chiclet size bits were the only palatable items there. Service was erratic and unorganized. Very disappointing and unsatisfying experience. They can do a lot better.

they call the chicken their special but really there's nothing special about a dry and flavorless chicken, far from what a real chicken inasal should be.the chicken taste like its just been thawed from the freezer and then fried.they even have a BBQ stick on it,but its not even placed on the grill.....

Let me first start by saying that yes, I am Filipino and I do review restaurants frequently. With that said, I have to say that this particular visit was disappointing. Upon arrival, the waitress came up to me right away asking my order. Told her I needed a few more minutes. I then waited about 20 minutes for (not the waitress who was either on her computer or watching television the entire time) but for the cook who saw me just sitting there. I ordered the special (chicken (leg & thigh) with beef soup). Soup was brought out right away. Looked like a "doctored up" ramen soup with pieces of beef (which I think was liver), a slice of hard boiled egg, scallions, and ramen noodles topped with crumbled pork rind skin. Tasted blan. Chicken came out 10 minutes after. I expected fried chicken, but it's actually roasted chicken served with garlic rice. Chicken tasted no different than any rotisserie chicken bought in a grocery store. Some parts of the chicken were tough. Overall, not impressed

They totally improved their service, first time i came here, service was so poor, food took 45 to an hour wait considering adequate staff, didnt even refill our water, now food was served 15 to 30 minutes, food was good, i definitely come back

I am a novice to Filipino food and didn't know what to expect but came away very impressed. I ordered Kare-Kare and the house speciality combo which came with grilled chicken and soup. Kare-Kare was very flavorful. The meat was tender and the peanut sauce was really good. The grilled chicken was very flavorful and moist and it came with a good sweet/sour relish. The soup was good as well and had a really tasty broth. Overall, great experience and am looking forward to going back.

Overall, disappointed :-( Ambience and feel: tacky. Chairs are old, and don't match. Mardigras theme? I don't get it. The place needs ventilation. Prepare to smell like fried chicken when you leave this place. Service: good. Friendly staff Food: menu has a short list. For this reason, i expect at least all the dishes to be made from scratch and from fresh ingredients. I was already put off when they were bringing out juice from the can. Appetizer- mini egg roll. Tasteless. I have a hunch its bought and cooked frozen. The tempura vegetable was decent but nothing to be excited about. We ordered palabok. The sauce was ok but the noodles was mushy. For the main entree, I ordered bangus belly had the chicken inasal thigh and drumstick. My fish was not completely deboned. The flavor was unremarkable. The mango salsa did not do much for the dish. The chicken lacked the inasal flavor. Size was smaller than what I expected. . Price point: we paid 40 dollars without the tip. A bit steep for the type of restaurant and food quality. Feel bad to write my first review especially for a filipino restaurant. The bright side is customer service was good. They should heed this review for what its worth. Suggestion: change the decor. Don't bring out the drink from cans. Work on the recipe for the dishes especially the chicken if they want to compete with other chicken joints. Re-evaluate their price point.

Needs improvement...chicken inasal was dry andthe atsara that came with it was ok, i've tasted better. The adobo rice is what it is, adobo with garlic rice on the side. Ambience is typical for a Filipino resto but the food really needs to improve. The batchoy lacked flavor, i'm biased because i've tasted the best, Ted's Lapaz Batchoy.

So good food...worth every penny! Superb halo halo. Thankfully they now have the choice of the combination for chicken bacolod and batchoy. I'm definitely coming back for more :)

I've only been here once, however, my whole FILIPINO family loved this place, including my mom- who was born and raised in BACOLOD! yes, my mom told me to write them a good review because she really liked the food. obviously, this is the real deal! that being said, i don't know if non-filipino people would like it here. if you are not filipino i would stick to the grilled chicken, lumpia, pancit bihon, calderetta and crispy pata. these dishes are awesome, but nothing to weird, like deep fried pork intestines or a eating a baby chicken inside the egg. we had great service, now this might be because my mom said in tagalog that she was from bacolod. however, service was good and our food came out fast. there were maybe four other tables, but they seemed to be handling a 3/4 restaurant fine. for dessert we had the halo halo and a separate order of leche flan. there was no talking when the halo halo came out. it was soooo good packed to the gills with ube and other sticky sweet island goodness. i have no idea why there is a mardi gras theme in the restaurant, however, the food is what is important! ignore the negative reviews. come here and eat some artery clogging, truly authentic filipino food.

authentically awesome central islands Filipino Cuisine. Love the combo chicken inasal and bachoy..... the halo-halo is to die for !!! lots of ingredients to tickle the palate ... excellent customer service....

I gave them an extra star because they had great customer service when I went with a group of four. The food is authentic from the central island areas of the Philippines. They gave good portions at a good price. The Halo-halo was tasty too. I want to go back and try the Kinilaw and Crispy-Pata. They should start using organic meats.

Heard about this place through word of mouth and went to try it last Sun for lunch. I've been waiting for a Chicken Inasal for a very long time and here it is. The place is clean and tidy and off a good size if ever you wanted a party. For the food I would grade it 3 Star for now because they just had an opening. The taste is ok, presentation is good, menu is confusing because there are some items are only serve as a lunch special and wasn't specified in the menu. The biggest complain I have is that the food was serve cold. I do understand that they are still adjusting so that's why I gave it a 3 Star. They have to make sure the food is always served hot, especially the garlic rice. I will be back a month from now and hopefully everything is perfect. God Bless and more power to the owner.

Had the pleasure of eating at Bacolod Chicken Haus last Sunday. The first thing it reminded me when we walked in was the feel of eateries back home in the Philippines that serve home cooked meals. The decor of maskaras ( not Mardi gras!) depicts a popular Bacolod festival. The service was excellent with friendly and courteous serving staff. Now saving my best comment for last, the food. It was excellent! I ordered the inasal and batchoy combo. The batchoy was served steaming hot, just the way I like it! The size of the chicken was perfect and not overwhelming. My dad ordered the tangigue steak and he loved it so much we had to order some to go. My daughter who is 8 loved the kare-kare. And then of course there is dessert. The turon with chocolate filling and caramel sauce was delicious! We will definitely go back and bring more friends to dine here.

We waited for about 45 minutes for our order to arrive. The garlic rice is cold and does not taste garlicky at all. The portion is small for the price. The grilled pork is nothing special. Their chicken is not juicy. It looks like it's been cooked for awhile before it was served. Our halo-halo only has one small scoop of ice cream and not sweet to be a dessert. We told the manager to get an extra sugar or ice cream. We waited and waited and waited and it did not came. What waste of time and money! I'm not coming back :-(

I enjoyed my experience but some food that we had could be better. The chicken was seasoned very well and was really good especially when paired with the atchara (pickled green papaya). The crispy pata was great and has a generous portion of the meat. Its also nice that its off the bone. The tocino taste great and the best so far. The tocino is homemade. It could be expensive if you buy it to cooke later at home. The molo is not good and is missing the authentic molo taste. The batchoy is descent and could use a little more salt for my taste. The pancit bihon and palabok where just ok, both could use some fish sauce and some calamansi. The bangus belly was great with the mangi salsa. I wish they would offer the salsa as a seperate side too.The turon was good and crispy but didnt care for the caramel sauce. The halo halo is not as flavorful as it can be. The mais con yelo is good. I would go back for some of the items but not anytime soon. Also because the location is hard to go to.

I came here for lunch with a large group today so I got to try a large portion of the menu. The highlights were kaldereta, beef sinigang, mini krispy pata, and halo halo. I would highly recommend trying those out. Everything else I thought were so-so. Overall, I think Isla Pilipina is better than Bacolod, especially the kare kare at Isla Philipina.

This is one of the best Filipino restaurants I've found in Chicago. We got Julie as our waitress. She was so friendly. This restaurant's specialty is grilled chicken and seafood. It's so great to be able to find authentic food with recipes from the Philippines. On Sunday, it can get pretty busy after church so it's a good idea to plan ahead. I would love to go on a Tuesday, but they are closed. Bacolod also has a pretty mixed crowd. Seating is never a problem because they have lots of space. I'm so impressed that I'm going to rent the space for my next birthday party.

I really don't know what to do with this review, so I'll just tell it like it is... We did the boodle boodle dining in a group of 11 - which means it was a huge table, set with banana leaves and they put a huge feast on the table - you eat with your hands. Food High points: Rice was great - it's just rice, but it's good rice Grilled pork - super tasty Shrimp - not deveined and hard to peel because of it, but they were sweet and not overcooked which for me is a no go. The non-deveining part is a little ooky. I know, I'm white. Chicken - it was actually dry, but very tasty, so I consider it a high point Lumpia Shanghai - still not as good as Unimart, but good nonetheless Halo - Halo - ok, I hate halo halo but my husband loved it and I can't judge so I'm giving it points Food Low Points: I thought the adobo pork was WAY too fatty Did not like the mussels - wasn't sure what was on them, but I didn't care for them. Everyone else did, so maybe that was me Other points: we never could get napkins, or very few. It also took a long time to get our wine served and the same with anything else we asked for (water, etc). We didn't have utensils, assume that might have been a problem. Also, I felt like we were sort of a "bother" for them - considering the bill, I would have expected better service. Plus, it wasn't like they didn't know 11 people were coming. I'd go back, and my husband definitely would. I'm just not sure it's that amazing. I agree with the rater who said 3.5 stars.

ill give five stars mainly because I love the authenticity of the food. the food really brings you back home. bacolod chicken inasal is very popular back in the south so im very familiar with the taste of their inasal. the food is good overall i ordered the inasal combo and it comes with batchoy a beef noodle soup with liver amd pork rinds and boiled eggs. it was pretty good. needed some seasoning though. the sisig is right up there. but i have had good one's but still it was good and the portion size is good. and for dessert halo halo is the go to. a bigger bowl is necessary. will be back soon. good thing is that they are open at mondays hard yo find a filipino restaurant that is open at mondays.

Went to this place this past Sunday 4/20/13 early afternoon and of course it's packed. Very impressive the place is full of hungry pinoys, missing the flavors from home. Looking forward for chicken inato, with garlic rice, and special batchoy, and its all a joke. Chicken inato breast is so small, no flavor at all, its a Cornish hen, and the garlic rice is steamed rice garnished with garlic on top, drizzled with butter, lovely. We ordered batchoy & egg roll and they did bring it over till I asked for it, not even water, very poor service. The server asked us who brought our food and told him the gentlemen in red shirt, ( oh that's my boss)! Even the egg roll is all egg wrap, with tiny bit of meat inside. I will give this new restaurant at least a year, and will see what happened. The burned out customer will never be back, come in there and check it out for yourself, and post your review.

went in to order take out, it was packed on a Saturday night, chicken was great, rice was also delicious. got to go there to eat and get the food served on the table, looked like fun for a party. nice people, good food, not real expensive. 90% of patrons were filipino, and friendly.

Been here so many times , the chicken is outstanding! The option of adding the batchoy is good since it serves as a appetizer. But the lumpia shanghai along with the sauce as a appetizer are a great option as well . This place has the best pancit palabok you can find anywhere hands down . For dessert you must try the turon which is a banana egg roll infused with chocolate perfection or the halo - halo which is a ice cream dessert with mixed fruit and ube flavored ice cream a taste of the Philippines here in Chicago

A solid 4 stars for Bacolod Chicken Haus. Service: It was full when we came in today during lunch. Nevertheless, the service wasn't lacking. Our waitress was attentive but didn't hover. Our glasses were never empty. She took our plates and bowls as soon as we were done. We didn't have to wait a long time for the food to come or for our table to be cleared. Food: I wasn't impressed with the chicken inasal. It was bland. It looked appetizing but I was sorely disappointed. Even with the atchara or the special sauce, it didn't taste good. :( The batchoy and pancit molo, on the other hand, were awesome! The pancit molo (similar to dumpling soup) had a lot of dumplings, so happy about that! My husband loved it as well. For $7, there were more than enough for 2 people. The batchoy was very good as well. Batchoy is a noodle soup made with liver, crushed pork rinds, chicken stock, beef, & noodles. It was garlicky, which I liked. It reminded me of home and that, I think, is the highest compliment I can give them.

BEST TURON EVER! Not only was there some chocolate goodness fried in with the banana, but the outside was also topped with caramel sauce. Um...hello? Amazing. (Turon is basically a deep fried banana wrapped in an eggroll/lumpia wrapper.) My parents took it upon themselves to order for the family, so they didn't choose to order any chicken. (This is not surprising if you know my parents.) However, my niece ordered a piece of chicken and really enjoyed it (namely, the skin). The kare-kare and inihaw na baboy were delicous...definitely the favorite items of the meal. The lumpia was also good, especially if you live in the area and are looking for a quick lumpia fix! Service was great, too! I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see that our waitress was SUPER respectful of my parents (the typical treat your elders with respect treatment, ya know?). The restaurant is spacious, clean, airy and bright (which is something that some other Filipino restaurants definitely lack). It was pretty crowded on a Saturday night, so that was nice to see! I am definitely planning on making a return trip! I'm already admittedly dreaming of that turon. Yum!

The food was definitely awesome!! I read the bad reviews about this place and most of them are issues about the service. I'm gonna have to say, they got their s**t together. Although there are still kinks that needed to be ironed out, the service was decent. I wouldn't consider it as best service in the city but they payed attention. Now for the food, my family is actually from Bacolod and I lived there for about 2 years. So i know what good Chicken Inasal is and their Chicken Inasal here is on point!! We also ordered Crispy Pata... That was delicious too!! Because of Melanie V's review saying "BEST TURON EVER", we decided to order the Turon too, and yes, she was not lying. It was good!! I'm definitely going back to this place.

Nice airy space, big windows with lots of light, Iloilo and Bacolod festival decor, nice silverware and tiled tables, a big and clean mens' CR (restroom) - what a surprise. Since I'm OCD about cleanliness, these attributes all deserve 4 stars. The food was also served authentically on banana leaves and wooden plates. The place was crowded at lunch time in the middle of the week. My asawa had the paa (a rather small chicken leg and thigh) inasal special with the mini batchoy (she's from Iloilo so she has credible taste buds) and I had the pecho with garlic rice (a big chicken breast serving). The food, ambiance and decor were all fine, I believe they should increase the size of their servings to increase the value of the meal.

Came here with a filipino buddy of mines. Located on Lincoln street so parking pretty much sucks. But I parked on the residential side streets behind this place. I dont know if that was permit parking or not but it was a sunday afternoon and YOLO. As soon as I walked in there was a homey vibe, nothing fancy in here. Having very little experience in this type of food, I got what my buddy got. It was the house special with soup. The batchoy soup was not bad but not for me. It had a whole lotta things going on. Next came the chicken with garlic rice. The chicken was crisp and moist. That along with the garlic rice worked well with eachother. Finally I had to do it. I tried Balut. For years I have heard many people talk about eating chick embryos. I googled pics and it seemed horrifying to me. But it was something I had to try, atleast once. Given instructions by my pal on the "right way to eat balut". I cracked the heavy shell open, poured some vinegar and salt on top, and slurpped that chick baby fluid. I am not going to the lie, the more i unpeeled the egg the less I wanted to eat it. But it actually is not that bad. Its like a tougher hard boiled egg. Just the appearance of it is only imtimidatiing. Overall seems like a authentic place for flilipino food!

stay away!!!!the tv was on surround sound when we walked in and stayed on with some heavy drama program and was too loud! the food was at best a 2 out of ten.. and the service was bad. the waitress was also too busy watching tv!! bad experience over all...

I've been here plenty of times with my family and they never disappoint. This is what I consider as authentic Filipino food! The food is great, and the owners are friendly. I usually stick with the same order, but I should try the rest of their menu. Their drinks are pretty good too-- that's something I usually don't mind exploring Looking forward to visit this place in the near future c:

If I could, I would give this place a solid 3.5. This is a decent sized place that looks very clean and inviting. My friend and I went to dinner here and came with our appetites in hand. I am not sure were ready for us. We arrived and were seated immediately. A very open restaurant with plenty of seating. We ordered the lumpia shanghai, inihaw na Baboy (grilled marinated pork), Pork Belly Sisig, Caldereta (beef stew), and garlic fried rice. The lumpia was good and high suggest anyone to order that. The Inihaw na Baboy was a probably by favorite thing. It was served on a wooden board on a banana leaf with garlic fried rice and some julienned pickled dicon radishes. The pork belly sisig was alright but it needed a little spice and with a little more crisp on it. Sizzling sisig is a Filipino street food and would love for them to master that because it was almost there for me, almost. The Caldereta was a bit bland and the meat was still a bit on the tough side for me. Seeing that caldereta is a stew the meat should be fork tender. It lacked that sweet and developed flavor that I am used to. The Garlic fried rice was the perfect pairing to all my dishes. The service was OK but nothing out of the ordinary spectacular. I would have loved to see our waitress be more enthusiastic and make some suggestions. So for a casual night out and if you are nearby, I would give this place a shot.

I give it 4 stars for an authentic feel and choices of food. The chicken inasal is good. Not bad for a Filipino restaurant but it could be tastier. I love the atchara (pickled papaya) and garlic rice that came with the meal. The banana leaf on the plate made it more authentic. I had a small portion of the Batchoy but it's kinda bland. It's ok for me so you will have the freedom to add a little salt or soy sauce. You must order the halo halo. So good dessert. I will be back for sure to taste other food. 5 stars go to the service and the owner as he is ver friendly accommodating and approachable. I recommend this place.

Four stars for the food! If you keep your expectations low for service, you'll have a grand ol' time. I've been here twice, and the first time, the service wasn't terrible, but that was only because we were one of three tables in the entire restaurant. The second time around, our water wasn't refilled and we had to ask repeatedly for utensils. The FOOD, though! We tried the chicharon bulaklak (fried pork intestines) appetizer; I don't actually usually eat intestines dishes, but this had the perfect amount of crispiness! The mini crispy patas (fried pork knuckle) was also great, both texture and taste-wise; loved the crispiness of the pork skin combined with the fatty, juicy meat. The inasal dishes were also great. I also enjoyed the batchoy, although I liked it better when I asked for no liver because I got more chicken toppings. The halo halo dessert was also pretty good! I wish we had a bigger bowl to more easily mix all the ingredients, though. However, I actually wouldn't recommend the turon (deep-fried banana roll) because the caramel was too sweet but also a bit burnt.

Bacolod Chicken Haus' food was pretty good, but they are still working out the kinks with the service and their inventory. We had to constantly ask for plates, silverware, napkins, serving spoons, water, etc. When we asked for bagoong and ketchup, they delivered it to someone on the other end of the table instead of to the one who asked for it. We went on Easter Monday, and they were sold out of chicken legs, adobo and the coconut shells for the halo-halo. We had two orders of pancit palabok. One order was tasty, but the other did not have enough sauce. JP (owner?) kindly sent out more palabok sauce. They also sent out more milk for the halo-halo, since we could not see any. I am glad they do not use styrofoam for their to go containers, but they still need to offer a plastic bag when there are multiple take home boxes. Like the previous reviewer, we too will give them some time to get settled and hope the service improves. The food was nicely plated and all of our entrees were piping hot. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating, but could use a bit more experience and common sense.

If you like filipino food then this place will suit your taste. Its not a dive and its not a fancy place, its family casual. It was packed when we went there. We paid for street parking but we didnt know that there was free parking in the rear. Wtae ordered. Grilled squid - good palabok - very good tanigue steak - we could have skipped that, not so good lumpia shanghai - good but how can you go wrong with a fried lumpia kare kare - this was very good but the sauce was not creamy like your typical Kare Kare tanigue ceviche - ok leche flan - it doesnt melt in your mouth chicken breast - ok We were a party of 3 adults and 1 child and we spent $91 and a lot of leftovers.

Chicken too small and does not have flavor. I think they should marinate their chickens at least 24-48 hours. If you want good Filipino cuisine, go to Isla Filipina in Chicago or Hong Ning in Bloomingdale. I guarantee it'll remind you of home.

The worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. Ever. OK. Fine. I get it. Sometimes the restaurant gets busy. But it is no excuse when you see the ladies behind the counter chatting it up and ignoring all the tables. We finally order and it takes 45 minutes to an hour for us to get our food. The food is "Good" but seems expensive for this type of food and the portions are not large. The Inasal chicken is authentic Bacolod Chicken taste, the Crispy Pata was cooked perfectly. The Palabok was decent. However, be prepared to wait... and wait... and wait some more. And then you will wait again and wait and wait. It is as if they imported the food from the Philippines. Then we wait another 45 minutes to an hour for our order of "Halo-Halo" dessert to arrive. It never arrived. They forget our order and ultimately forgot about us. We were just sitting there with a bunch of plates in front of us for an hour. Nobody goes to check on us. I am there about to laugh on how bad the service is. There are a lot of workers there so I just do not get it at all. I finally got fed up and went up to the front to ask them to just give us the dessert to go and give us the bill. Another few minutes pass and still no signs of them making the dessert. I tell them to just cancel the order and ring me up. The ambiance was tacky and the chairs were so uncomfortable. If they expect me to wait for the food for 2 hours at least have something comfortable. I wouldn't go back here and don't recommend it either.

Considering I've only had breakfast here, I do like this place. It's clean, food is delicious -- and it's clean. Some things that I could do without? Probably the oil on top of my rice -- i like garlic mixed into the friend rice, not just poured on top. I also like restaurants to be open at the time the sign says it will be so I don't have to wait 15 mins outside while the owners vacuum, set up the tables, etc. Aside from that, it's one of the cleaner Filipino restaurants I've been to -- and their tocino and krispy pata are delicious!
