This was our second visit to this location and this time we started the visit at the restaurant for brunch. For 22/person I thought it was a good deal. My daughter and niece were in heaven! They give the dolls a seat at the table and bring them their own plate and cup. The meal started with a sweet cinnamon bun followed by a plate of fruit/cheese & veggies. Our entrees were next and we all ordered something different. I had a ham and cheese sandwich with fries, the others had pizza, a burger, chicken teriyaki sandwich and salad. For dessert they give a moose and cupcake. After the meal we headed into the store. My daughter went straight to get her dolls ears pierced. For $14 they pierce the ears and give you 6 earring sets. My daughter enjoys looking around at all of the different outfits and accessories. I always look for the sale items and was able to get an entire outfit for 14 and a pet dog for 10. The look on my daughters face is priceless every time we come to american girl place.

Here with a niece. Yes, I bought my niece an American Girl doll. I know she enjoys the books plus in the past- they sadly don't carry these now- I bought her doll a karate gi with all the color belts, a microscope-included science lab and realize it is as educational as you, the holder of the sacred wallet, can invest to make it. So a pink-haired doll of the year in tutu for a triple digit price tag may or may not be her cup of tea. This girl has a bigger wish list. I am marveling at a doll boat, yes, a doll boat. Think The Mayflower but only slightly smaller and likely better made than the original, that I could very likely fit on, for a little bit more than the cost of my mortgage payment. As I stand here with the Grandmother, watching kids bust out impressive tantrums beside large glass cases- we marvel at the irony of how most of the dolls are set in eras of well, survival and very necessary restraint- Colonial Settlement, Revolutionary War, Post-Civil War Reconstruction, The Great Depression, World War Two... you can max out a credit card or two easily, sell both kidneys to pay for... a substantial doll boat made in China. I appreciate the educational history, I appreciate the relief of child-appropriate entertainment but in visiting, the irony is a rather overwhelming step back.

My daughters friend celebrated her b'day with few of her friends.lunch was a grand affair with the dolls in their high chair and tables beautifully decorated. I had a the veggie sandwich which one of the very best, i could smell the good butter on the toast. The cake looked great but didnt taste as good.Overall a fun time for everyone although i caved in and bought another doll for my princess!

This place is HUGE. Customer service is great. There are associates everywhere ready to help you find what you need (and what you don't need) for your American Girl Dolls. 3 floors of everything you could possibly imagine for your doll.

My daughter used to have these and loved them. We were walking down Michigan Avenue and I said, "There's the American Girl store". Her hands went up and she screamed out an excited, "WHERE?" So, we were headed into the Water Tower anyway to visit the Lego Store and there it was. It was so pretty in pink. Each doll of the year was displayed in glass cases and every other doll was there. We kept exploring and there was more and more and more. They had a doll salon, a bakery, an ear piercing and hearing aid section for the dolls, a café to eat at with your doll, and then downstairs they had a baby section. I was blown away. We still get the catalog at home and seeing all the things in person was so exciting. You just have to visit this store to experience it if you have any history with American Girl dolls. It's adorable.

We celebrated my daughter's 10 th birthday this week. It was her first trip to Chicago and the American Girl Place. She got her first bitty baby when she was 3 and purchased her most recent American Girl after saving up a year ago. The cafe is a must with the beautiful ambiance for little girls. The staff at the cafe were wonderful providing high chairs for the dolls, hair ties for the girls and lovely Christmas decorations for the season. The cafe reminded me of stepping into a little girls dollhouse. I would recommend lunch or tea since it is more affordable. Take some time to go through the book/library area. We enjoyed sitting and reading for about 30 minutes.. Have some fun and get the dolls ears pierced or hair done! After five hours of girl fun, we give the AG Place 5 stars!

Have you ever been to Disney World? You'll notice, at Disney, despite the thousands of people walking around the park, eating, drinking, touching things, shopping that nothing ever seems out of place. There is no garbage on the ground. No fingerprints on the glass. Every shelf and items on shelves are perfectly arranged and aligned. This is the Disney World of doll stores. I took my birthday girl to Chicago specifically to visit American Girl Place. I think we spent about 4 hours in the store - which surprisingly did not seem like 4 hours. The staff was incredibly helpful in directing us (our first visit) and as I mentioned, everything was pristine within the store. They made my daughter feel very special as it was her birthday. She enjoyed every minute, and I loved seeing her smile as we explored the store. Be sure to reserve at least two hours if you are planning your visit and your little girl is already a big AG fan. There is plenty to do - look at all the dolls and accessories, books and photo gallery on the first floor (bitty babies also on the first floor) and then pop up to level 2 for more shopping fun - the cafe, doll hospital and salon are also located on the 2nd level. Right next door to AG place on the 2nd level of water tower place is the Lego store, so if you have the boys in tow, they can hang out there while the girls enjoy AGP.

I loved this store! I took my daughter here on our recent trip to Chicago and she was in heaven. I believe this is their flagship store. We visited the location in NYC a few months back, the NYC location seemed a lot bigger, but the Chicago location totally kicked NYC's behind in customer service. It's located in the Water Tower Place which is also a very nice place to shop. They've got a bakery and a doll salon but unfortunately when we went, the bakery was closed. There were a couple of items that we had in mind that we wanted to purchase but were told they were out of stock, but they did offer special order with free shipping. They only validate for the garage located at 111 E. Chestnut St. which is not the garage for Water Tower Mall. It's only for a few bucks off, we only got a $4 discount, but with the outrageous price of parking in Chicago, $4 helps.

OMG.... Is this place for real. It is a whole freakin' doll underworld. WOWZA. We went here as a group because the visiting guests had to buy doll things. This place is two stories. It has a beauty salon where the girl and her doll can get matching hair-dos. They are extremely overpriced. And it is way more than just a doll, this doll can have the same hair and eye color and then matching outfits can be purchased. I am just in awe at how popular this phenomenon is! I did not see many employees. Weird. Busy place.

I have to say, I had never been in one of these stores before, and it is extensive. I had no idea how serious about dolls this place is. I mean, they have a hair salon for these dolls! Shoes that would rival Mahnolo Blahniks! Tons of different outfits for every activity and every season! Hair accessory kits! Ear piercings! Holy shit! (Sorry, I have never cursed in my reviews, but I am at a loss for words here!) I came here with my young niece and her parents. This was a special trip to get her very first AG doll. This place is a big deal, folks. They take the doll business very seriously (I know, I already said that). They have a cafe where the little girls can sit with their dolls in their own special seat and dine together. I really had no idea. We were there for more than 2 hours. My niece finally chose the doll named McKenna, which is the AG Doll of the Year. Two reasons I didn't give AG all 5 stars: 1) There was one really rude employee. I hate to bring this up, since every other employee we encountered was very pleasant, but she was such a bitch we were discussing her even 5 hours after we left the store. 2) The dolls are beautiful, that can't be denied. But I don't think they should cost $100+ dollars. That's a tad exorbitant. And so are some of the "services" - the hair styling, the spa experience (yes they actually offer that for the dolls as well, if you can believe it), the ear piercing. But I highly doubt my 3-star review is going to have any affect and certainly won't diminish the hordes of young admirers. My niece was absolutely crazy about this place.

My daughter screamed uncontrollably when I surprised her to a visit at the cafe. We made the reservations over the phone and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We booked a birthday dinner for my daughter ($34) where she received a very pretty cake, a tiara for her and her doll and of course the staff singing Happy Birthday. There were two dinner seatings to choose from 530 or 730. When we walked into the restaurant we were amazed. It really looks like a dream - gorgeous pink, white and black decorations. It feels just right for a young girl to experience a fine dining atmosphere! Sophisticated for a little girl. The servers were amazing. The napkin ring holders served as a pony tail holder that we could take home with us, and they put some table topic conversation starters on the table which my son and daughter both loved. (Of course, you could purchase the game and any of the other goodies right outside the store when your meal was over). The dolls sit in little chairs right at the table, and they have dolls that you can borrow if you don't have one! So cute! There is even a place to put your doll in the bathroom so she can go with you! Aweee..... Now, here's where it gets rough - the food is gross. You start off with hot Cinnamon buns (yeah, we have a winner), then a plate of crudites (carrots, celery and some horrible dip). The main course you can order a salad (choose the salad), pizza, fish, or a chicken dinner. I opted for chicken. It looked like it had Italian dressing poured all over it. Will I go back! Yes, but not to eat! My kids didn't even like the pizza (veggie, cheese or pep). But, I would go back for tea time or a less expensive meal. Nothing can beat the ambiance, decor and staff. Just don't go on an empty stomach like we did!

I ate there yesterday for GOTR ( Girls On The Run) dinner and I ate their chicken tenders and I threw up later that night and I couldn't go to the race on 6/1/13.
