I have to also agree with a couple other reviewers, I have been coming here since it opened and I never really thought it as a great place but is really the only place around for asian food, and its always been okay at best and and perfect to say on a Sunday evening like tonight to quickly go pick it up ( and @ Nicole H . not every Chinese restart delivers ) but to get to the point, I will never go to this restaurant again , the mean, horrible Owner (the women) was literally screaming in Chinese at her employees I don't care if they did something wrong or what you NEVER YELL AT YOUR EMPLOYEES LIKE THAT IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS" NEVER you have no respect for the fellow man to berate someone like that in the public eye and you made myself and the other customers very uncomfortable Your a horrible women And i will be sure to tell everyone that I know that lives in Cary about this . YOUR a Horrible and Mean Person

Our favorite local Chinese place. Veggie Egg Foo Young and Crab Rangoon are must tries. Everything else is usually very good too.

China House is always consistent typical Chinese food. They are always very fast and the specials are pretty good. It just comes across as "drunk food". If you want run of the mill Chinese eat here BUT if you want gourmet Chinese try Plum Garden in McHenry or Gourmet House in Algonquin.

I used to like dining here a lot, never had any problems, my order was always tasty. However I have to drop my rating based on my experience tonight. I called in an order for pick up, intending to pay with credit. Usually credit card orders cost $10+ here which I have no problem paying. Tonight, though I was informed that I would now have to buy $15+ in food for my order in order to pay with a card. This makes me sad. They're getting too big for their britches. I mean c'mon your food is good, but it's just that. Good. Ok. Decent. Not worth spending $15 on for a dinner for 1. I hope you guys see the light before you put yourselves out of business with dumb crap like this.

I've eaten here twice and both times the food has been good. Well, it's been Chinese food. Americany Chinese food. However, the service has bordered on rude both times. Not overtly rude, but not friendly. Also, it does seem expensive, but we probably just ordered too much food.

I honestly don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. I grew up in Crystal Lake and moved to Fox River Grove about 2 years ago. While there are only a couple other nearby Chinese options, China House is our go-to every time. We have never been disappointed in the food or service. We typically order sweet and sour pork (good), mongolian beef (very good), egg rolls, crab rangoon and fried rice. We've also tried a few other things like General Tsao's Chicken, Chop Suey and hot & sour soup (all fantastic). Everything is consistently to our satisfaction and we enjoy eating the leftovers for a few days after. We have many family members and friends who live in the area as well who will vouch for China House and say it's great. This Chinese restaurant is just as good, if not better, as any I have had in McHenry County. To those of you saying the guy at the counter is rude...why? Because he tells you the price and then says have a good night? I don't expect to have a chummy conversation with the cashier at any take out place. Not like they are actually waiting on you like at a sit-down restaurant and have a reason to be pleasant. To those giving China House 1 star or 2 stars - you need to lower your standards. This is a typical Chinese takeout restaurant.... and I personally love it.

I've never had the experience here that the other diners have had. I like the Kung Pao chicken, it comes loaded with peanuts and mild - ask for extra spicy if you like spicy food. The Chicken Chop Suey comes in a delicate garlic sauce with fresh chinese green vegetables. The hot & sour soup is terrific. The potstickers are good. My +1 likes the fried rice - there are 6 different fried rices to choose from. The best thing about China House is that all of their vegetables in their dishes are really fresh. The second best thing is that they have over 50 menu items - not bad for a small shop in a small town. I don't think the staff is rude but I do think language barriers may have affected some of these other reviews. The lunch special consists of soup, white or fried rice and a main entree for $6.75. That is a bargain.

Over the past decade living in McHenry County, I have learned that it is not THE destination for a gourmet palate, and Asian food is no exception. That said, I've eaten a number of times at China House, and every time have been quite satisfied with what I've gotten. I usually stop by for their lunch specials which are a really good deal. For around five bucks, you get an entree and a side of either sticky or fried rice, plus of course the obligatory fortune cookie. The husband and wife who own the place are not overly talkative, but they seem like decent enough folks. The place is generally clean if sparsely decorated. Don't come here for the ambiance. Come here because you want Chinese food and don't want to drive down to Chicago to get GREAT Chinese food. My favorites are the General Tso's Chicken and the Moo Goo Gai Pan. They also have excellent Fried Won Ton, and the Pork Fried Rice does rate right up there with the best. Like I said, not great, but damned good!

I agree with nicole h. I went in an ordered the Schezwan Chicken from the over head display - noticed a menu and told the young fella at the register that I would like to change the order to the Tripple Garlic with Chicken. I apologized for changing the order with a smile and the kid did nothing - didn't even look up. None the less he rang it up as $22 and change too which I said hold on - that's pretty expensive. Turns out that he never took my Schezwan Chicken off the order... I laughed again and said "I was gonna say this better be some really good food for $22 and change"... Again no response - what does this kids barely know english but he's at the counter??? I was told I would have to wait 20 minutes - really??? I go anywhere else and it's 5-10 minutes. Anyhow I run over to KFC (which I am going to nail next) for food for the rest of the family. Eventaully I come back - 30 minutes later, pick up my food and head home. When I get home - what a lovely suprise I have in that I ended up with Garlic Chicken and Shrimp - and I am allergic to seafood. It's now 7PM so I called up the owner - some lady who should completely restrain herself from interfacing with customers ever again! I am firstly told that I ordered the wrong thing. When I told her that her un-friendly register boy screwed up my order twice - thusly establishing that he messed this up from the get go, she then started questioning me about the order again - as though she was getting me to make a mistake in my story. She finally said I could come in and exchange the meal for the right one but that - that meal I ordered (or thought I did) was $1 dollar more and I would have to make up the difference - REALLY - YOU SCREWED UP AND NOW I HAVE TO DRIVE BACK OUT AT 715PM TO GET THE RIGHT ORDER??? I wonder where these baffoons took lessons on how to run a business or customer service??? I said no - that my family was waiting for me to eat dinner and that I would sit down with them and be in tomorrow. She then tried to catch me by saying "I thought you no eat seafood cause of allergy"... Nice! I calmly explained that I had also waiting 30 minutes for KFC while waiting on them and that I was eating that... I then added that there was no need for me to come in anylonger. That I would never do business with them. I informed her that I am a local resident of nearly 30 years and that I will be certain to get the word out that this is perhaps the worst excuse for customer service and chinese take out I have ever experienced. If you want good Chinese go to PLUM GARDEN in MCHENRY

Love the food here, been eating here since we moved to the area 7 years ago.........favorite is the kung pao chicken and the crab rangoon! I do agree that the service is not very friendly when it's the wife working.....when it's the husband he's always friendly. Forget about it when they are working together - the wife is screaming at the husband in front of customers which is not appropriate. If you can get past that, I truly believe the food speaks for itself..........definitely the best chinese food in the Cary,Crystal Lake,Barrington area!

Don't go here. You will be disappointed beyond your wildest dreams. My husband and I moved to Cary recently. We live a stone's throw from China House. Not that it matters because of how close we live, but they don't deliver! What kind of Chinese place doesn't DELIVER?! So we got take out. To start our experience, the man who was working at the counter was incredibly rude. When we got our food home, both of us had never been so disappointed with Chinese food in our lives--and we're not even picky complainers! Everything we got (crab rangoon, egg rolls, Kung Pao chicken, veggie chop suey) was downright bad. We will never EVER go there again. We just wish there was good Chinese in Cary :(

I am not sure what everyone's issues are with this place. I have been ordering here for well over 7 years and i don't know about most people but i personally have never had an issue with the way my orders are taken or my interaction with the family that owns the place. I don't think they do anything different then any other Chinese take out place does, other than have the best General Tso's chicken.

The food is very good, probably the best in the area, however, if you've never been here, read this 1st. The woman owner is like everyone else said, a total bitch. i cannot stand her, shes so rude, screams at you, and just stares at you and rolls her eyes. Definitely recommend the food, but that woman has got to go, she makes the experience bad.

It's not terrible, I've just had way better Chinese food. It's fine if you don't have high expectations for your dinner.

we live in Cary since several years and this place is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. The food is great and priced well! They have also a large crowd of take-out customers.

This is one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" kind of places. Looks like an almost chain-like Chinese restaurant at a glance. Seating area in minimal as other reviewers have noted. Staff aren't the warmest people you'll come across either. But for a Chinese take out place that's kinda in the stix - the food is pretty decent. Liked their eggroll, loved their Mongolian Beef (yes, even with the jalapenos). The dinner order that I bought for lunch was big enough for two lunches, so well worth it. I'll be going back

Been coming here for a long time. The food is consistant. It is safe to say that 98% of the customers order carry out, no need for me to describe the ambiance. I've never had a problem with bad food. We know exactly what to expect when we order. Not super duper awesome, but it is fast and good. They will modify your order; Say you want it spicy or want to substitute one meat for another, they will usually do it.

So for me, this is purely a takeout place though they do have seating. The restaurant is family owned and as such is not buttoned down, so expect phone ordering to be a little complicated. That being said, China House and it's employees do care, which says a lot these days. The food is pretty solid, but has taken me a little while to warm to some of the preparations made versus those I grew up with in California. I have tried China House at least 5 times at this point, so I am comfortable recommending them and frequenting them at least on a monthly basis. The food is made fresh, the flavors are consistent and the portions are a good value. My favorites from their menu: (#42) Chicken Chow Mee Fun: Thin noodle, garlicky and great portioning (#45) Pork Friend Rice: Great flavors and good amount of pork to rice (#74) Beef & Broccoli: Good flavors, fresh broccoli and tasty beef (C-17) Curry Chicken: Creamy yellow curry, good flavors, fresh vegetables and some heat

The food here is OK, if that. I have ordered here a couple times, trying different items, but the food here has not impressed me.

We have gotten China House take-out for about 10 years now. The food is consistently good. We love the chicken fried rice and their egg rolls. They do have some tables, but I'm not sure why, because the dining area has about as much ambiance as the Secretary of State office in Woodstock. They don't have a bar or hot tea. So for that reason they have been our place when we want to bring food home. Good food if you are looking for a take out place.

Here's what you get when you don't check Yelp first. NO HOT TEA. First I stopped in FoxRiverGrove at a Chinese Place on NW Highway, CLOSED. Then I stopped here around 2. Lunch special till 3. NO help or service while you sit at your table not realizing you have to order at the counter. AT the counter you have to pay CASH, no CC and get this NO HOT TEA. I thought it was a joke, and asked if that was some new trend...(pretty sure it was HER last day, no response). So then I asked for hot water (feeling a little Jack Nicholson 5 Easy Pieces coming on), NO HOT WATER. I realize I should have left then, but I was hungry and it looked clean enough, but no customers either, my father's tell for walk away. The smell test was about a 4 out of ten, not bad but not particularly compelling either. Cold water was in a big jug...did they pay their water bill? If that was their way of selling overpriced drinks in a cooler, it didn't work on me. Hot and sour soup not bad for an extra $1, still a little vinegary, served hot in a largeish pcb container. Everything was plastic in there except for the foil cover on the leftovers. This included trying to eat the soup with one of the cheapest flattest plastic spoons I have ever had the misfortune to try and use, yes I sometimes picked it up and drank it or I would still be there. Decent pork egg foo yung once you scrape that mystery brown sauce off, greasy fried rice. $6.30 and you don't have to worry about tipping anybody for no service, plus she left 15 minutes ago anyway if she was ever really there. It sounds like I was lucky the owners weren't there from these non customer service reviews, although I do enjoy a shouting match where I get to switch to a different language too. The China House restaurant looked to me like they were in a stage somewhere in between their pipes being frozen and/or being shut down by any food service for no hot water. If you have any tendency toward depression, this is your spider web. There was no one visible behind the counter when I silently walked out, an empty restaurant with one chinese newspaper on a table near the "ordering" counter. You can do WAY better, drive south. ANYWHERE in Palatine or Schaumburg is better. Try the Asian Noodle House on Roselle in Schaumburg, cheaper, way better and once they get to know you treat you like family, plus Hot Tea. I maintain that Asian "restaurants" in the NW burbs that use jalapenos instead of Thai/Chinese chillies are NOT really Asian restaurants. Can you BE a Chinese restaurant if you don't serve hot tea? I'm thinking no.

Foods good, but they're a bit rude. Not even a thank you. Guy seemed like I was bothering him with my $30.00 order. For that reason, I give them a 3.

Pretty good food, it's fresh and quick. Rather cheap too. I'll be back every time I want Chinese.

I dont know what anyone is talking about I love this place. I have lived in Cary for 10 years and eat here like once a week. Cheapest Chinese food around lunch specials are $5 and is always extremely fast. I live 5 minutes away and if i call it in is always done when i get there. General Tso's is great much better than king wok or panda which are the only other Chinese in the area i believe besides buffet. The owner is always nice when I'm there i have no idea what people are talking about. try it for yourself its good. especially for takeout its quick.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
