A-OK is the right description. They don't have massaman curry on the menu.

Great place for lunch! My work associates and I come once a week. The staff are amazing and pretty much know what we want to order when we walk in the door. Budget friendly place the offers a lot of quality food at an affordable price. My only knock on the place is how inconsistent the kitchen is with their spice levels. They ask you how spicy you want your dish from 1-10. I always order a 10, but the spice level is never the same. Some times it is a true 10 and other times it feels more like a 3 and anywhere in between.

I came in expecting great Thai food and I left quite satisfied. I sat alone at the bar was served and attended to quickly and courteously. They were busy but there wasn't anyone slacking off everyone keeping busy and still chatting with me. I just moved here from Denver, CO and I really appreciated the top notch friendly service. It was a different type of Thai in my humble opinion fresh, light and makes the tongue sing. less fishy tasting than other places I have been in the past. I had the fried egg rolls (lovely but best eaten while hot and must try the homemade sauce) Tom Yum Soup (I love the black mushrooms but the broth itself had a strong flavor and the chicken could be cut smaller for manageable bites.) Tofu Pad Thai (thought I'd give this a try for the first time here, its a great basic dish, light, easy to enjoy, the green onions were bulky and had to be moved to the side but left a lovely bright taste in their wake, the tofu was just okay, but I like mine pretty crispy) had a blue moon to remind me of home and headed out. The portions are huge so you are really enjoying two meals for the price of one. I look forward to coming again and trying something new and just as lovely. Warmly, Mama D

Having heard about how good the food was at Thai Taste, my hopes were high for a great experience. While the food was better than average the service was beyond subpar. I came in on a Saturday night (4/6/13) knowing that it would probably be busy. That being said, the hostess was rude and uncooperative. When I told her that I was interested in takeout she seemed put off that I didn't already know what I was interested in ordering. When I politely explained to her that it was my first time at Thai Taste she flung the menu at me and was standoffish. As mentioned, I knew that it would be a wait because it was a Saturday night but I saw my order sitting ready for at least 10 minutes at the bar. As someone who has been a server before I know how difficult a busy restaurant can be but that being said I really, REALLY regret even leaving a tip (as said, former server so I always give at least 20% even on takeout). I understand that this is one of the nicer restaurant options in Carbondale but there really was no need to treat a customer like that.

This is Carbondale, not Chicago, so one has to keep a perspective. There are certainly better Thai restaurants but probably not in Southern Illinois. The food was uniformly tasty. Fresh spring rolls, beef salad, seafood red curry were all good, My daughter ordered the pork fried rice; usually I expect fried rice to be a throwaway dish but it was quite good. However, I agree with another reviewer's comment about the hotness scale, 10 is spicy, but not Thai hot. The service was friendly. We ordered one of the local wines and when it turned out to be far too sweet, the server gave us another wine at no charge. Be warned, the servings are larger than I'm accustomed to, we ended up ordering far more food than we could eat.

BEST RESTAURANT IN CARBONDALE!!! The service is great and the food is FANTASTIC! Full of flavor and you can customize how spicy you'd like it (I normally stick around a 5). It's small and fills up quickly, so don't go with a large group. However it's well worth the crowd.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. I base my opinion on a Thai restaurant by their pad thai. Thai Tastse's pad thai is tasteless and dry. Not to mention they skimp on the meat. Other meals have always been too spicy even at the lowest level. I am NOT a fan of this Thai restaurant. Ive eating authentic Thai food across the nation and this is the only one that I will not return to because they always are a miss. try Thai D in Marion, IL

I love Thai Taste! I love the layout of the restaurant, the food is tasty and the Thai tea is delicious. I'm eating an order of pad woon sen (my usual at TT) from a neighborhood Thai restaurant in Chicago and don't enjoy it nearly as much as the pad woon sen from Thai Taste. Those of you who have said there is no one Asian who works there are obviously not too familiar with the place. I'll leave it at that. Yay TTC!

  • River O.

The best restaurant in Carbondale. The spring rolls are the best I've had anywhere. The Pad Woon Sen is amazing. The only bad thing I've had here is egg drop soup because it uses copious amounts of black pepper. Definitely the restaurant I miss most!!

I went here for lunch this past Friday. I was at first skeptical that you had to choose the spice level for their pad thai, because I have never had to do that before. I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the spice- I got a level 2, though I think next time I will get higher. I also liked that their egg/spring rolls were a little spicy as well. I will def. go back here again.

I travel a lot for work, and love Thai food, which has resulted in me eating Thai in many major US cities, and I can honestly say Thai Taste is the best I've ever had. A large menu with great variety, with great sauces on all their dishes, always perfectly seasoned, and spiciness adjusted to how you like it. Their dessert with the sticky rice and mango ice cream is also awesome! I come through town once or twice a year for alumni events, and I always make a point to stop at Thai Taste. And it never disappoints!

They rate the spicy factor of their food on a 1-10 scale, so I'm going to take a page from their book and rate the key points on the same scale, 10 being the highest folks. (doh!) Appetizers: 5 We had the shrimp eggrolls and the chicken satay. Shrimp eggrolls were good. Close to shrimp tempura because the whole shrimp was in there intact, but not as thick of a breading as your normal shrimp tempura. Hated the chicken satay. The chicken itself had a coated breading to it, tasting similar to a chicken nugget. Iccccck. I felt bad for dinner mates because the other two had nevertried it, and I raved at what a great appetizer it was. Thai Taste didn't fit the bill with theirs (or my) expectations. Chicken satay doesn't have a breading, but instead the chicken breast is grilled nicely on a skewer. The accompanying sauce was decent. I heard the spicy wings were ga-reat. Gonna have to try those the next time we're back at SIU! Entrees: 10 I loved my shrimp pad thai. I had the spicy level at a 5, which I thought was mediocre, but it was definitely upped up an ante. Still really good though. The noodles done al dente, the shrimp plump and plenty and the dish in itself seasoned quite well. Tasted dinner mate's basil thai rice which was spicy and kicking! Great flavor! Other dinner mate had the squid with mixed veggies and the Crazy noodles. Both spicy, and well seasoned. I'd recommend both, as the veggies were very fresh in the squid, and the noodles perfectly in the Crazy noodle dish. Service: 8 Now while our server was really nice and attentive, I had to deduct some points to the fact that their turnaround time made for a longer wait. I stood inside and saw a few tables that were left unbus-ed and cleared for a good 5-10 minutes. This turnaround would help usher more tables and get your more service efficiently. HIRE MORE PEOPLE or train better. It's just that easy. Overall: 7.5

Thai Taste is most likely the thing I miss most about Carbondale! I lived in Carbondale for four years during college, and ate at Thai Taste constantly. In addition, every time I return to Carbondale, I make sure to visit it. The entrees are great (my favorite is the prig kratum pad thai), as are the appetizers (the fried shrimp dish which I cannot recall the name of is my absolute favorite). The environment is nice, and the wait staff is excellent! The only negative thing I can even think of is that sometimes it gets a little busy, and there is a bit of a wait.

Delicious spring rolls have not been able to find a spring roll that competes with them.

  • K J.

The Pineapple Fried Rice is amazing! And you are not going to find a tastier order of chicken wings anywhere in Carbondale, I promise. It's a little pricey for broke college students at night, but their lunch prices are completely reasonable. If you do go for dinner, the portions are big enough that two people can comfortably split an order. Since it's so small, sometimes it can be hard to get a table when it's busy, and it gets pretty crowded. I usually call in to-go orders if I'm getting dinner, and they're ready pretty quickly. Don't forget to grab a couple delicious mints on your way out!

Good food if your not familiar with Thai cuisine. Definitely not authentic, skip it and drive to Marion to Thai D for more authentic and amazing food.

This was a terrible experience for lunch. First we were told we could not get fried rice as a lunch item, the spring rolls were obviously out fo a box and the Pangeeng Beef was just this side of dog food. When asked how hot on a scale of 1 to 10, I joked 6 1/2. The waitress promptly scolded me saying "just pick six or seven". Would I have known anyway? Avoid this place at all costs.

    Good Thai Food.

  • Lauren L.

This is not a real Thai place. I'm from Chicago which is full of neighborhood Thai places, all of which are better than this. The flavor is not authentic. I got a very normal dish: pad Thai and my boyfriend got Pad see ew. Neither were good. We got them a level 5 spicy. I appreciate heat but it didn't work well in either dish. My boyfriend's dish literally tasted like gritty charcoal. We also had an eggroll appetizer which was good but overpriced for a small amount of food. I don't know if the good reviews are a result of not having true authentic Thai food, but this isn't a good place and I wouldn't recommend it. There isn't a single person who works there that is actually Thai or even Asian. It was a disappointment and really not that cheap.

One of the best thai restaurants I've ever been to, and definitely one of the top 10 in Carbondale. They offer great Takeout service too. Try the Pad Thai, it's delicious.

I always get so excited when I'm in town and get to eat here. The Pad Thai is amazing, and I know from my friends that they have many vegetarian and vegan friendly entrees. I recommend the Fresh Spring Roll. It's the best I've ever had, and I think the plum sauce has a lot to do with it. Yumm!

Good curry dishes, quick service. I went for dinner fairly early in the evening, so I don't know how the service is during "rush". My server was really cute too :)

  • Laura B.

Probably the best place to eat in Cdale. Although that may not mean much, they have really good food. I am usually not the type of person that orders the same dish all the time, but I LOVE the pineapple fried rice at a 10 spice level! YUM. The only bad thing is that they are usually understaffed and will often have slow service. They have great lunch specials, so check that out, too.

  • Talia M.

I like it a lot. Yes, it is the only thai place in Carbondale. But honestly, Springfield, IL has several thai restaurants and they aren't as good as Thai Taste. Take that for what it is worth.

Ordered take-out on a weekday and service was quick and easy! I had their Panang Beef curry, which was super creamy, delicious, and filling. Didn't care much for the mini egg rolls (too greasy for my taste), but I will definitely be back. FYI - When you order to-go on the lunch special, you don't get soup with your order.

Visiting from STL, i would say its one of the better restaurants in Carbondale. Its clean and the ambiance is nice. Service has always been good and food is prepared better than other Carbondale restaurants I have been to. I eat a lot of thai food and have noticed that thai taste makes some of their foods differently. I had the panang curry and it came out as more of a soup based dish, but was fine BC the consistency of the dish was still rich, flavorful, and creamy. I recommend it The tom yum soup is a clear broth rather than the typical red/orange broth that I am used to which was not sweet or as tangy. The sweet and sour chicken and the pad see u was also great and I recommend it. I also love getting a Thai iced tea there as well which is black tea and condensed milk. I was NOT a fan of the tom pork salad. There was too much vinegar and was the dressing made a soup at the bottom of the salad bowl. I will be ordering the pad thai next time.

  • Daroncia S.

Love the ambience. One of my favorite places when I lived in cdale. The pad thai is really good. The rice soup spice level of 6 will clear any sinus issues, on a cold winter day. The shrimo are plump and juicy, thai wingz are ok, tasty just oversized. Spring rolls sre crisp. Highly recommended.

Overall a very good restaurant. I highly recommend the Pad Kee Mao (Spicy Crazy Noodle) and the wings. The spice level is hit or miss so I usually aim for the middle of what I can handle.

Excellent service, decent food, decent ambience, decent prices. Not sure it's worth a repeat visit -- maybe for the green curry, or if I'm with a large group (the space is good for groups). The details: FOOD: I wasn't expecting top-caliber Thai in this part of the country; and while this prediction held true, in addition there were some serious and avoidable shortcomings. The Pad Ped (?) curry was so salty we couldn't eat it, even with rice. Asking the lovely server to perhaps cut it with more veg improved it some, but it was still megasalty and now swimming in sauce. The touch of Liquid Smoke didn't do anything for the sauce either. HOWEVER, the veg was all beautifully al dente, and the green curry was less salty and pretty tasty. The chicken satay appetizer is bizarre and should be skipped at all costs: more like a leathery corndog than chicken, with a weird breaded coating and strange, tough, spongelike texture. AMBIENCE: May I suggest bamboo screens instead of the corrugated plastic sheets enclosing the entry foyer? Candles on the tables would transform the general dimness into a cozy romantic atmosphere. Surprisingly loud: hard to hear my husband sitting right next to me. A couple sitting across from each other at a booth had the right idea: they had given up and were each looking at their respective electronic devices. SERVICE: Professional, friendly, and extremely helpful (particularly appreciated during the Pad Ped desalinization mentioned above). Tipping over 20% was definitely justified! PRICES: One appetizer + two entrees = leftovers + $35 (incl. tip).

First impression, a sign on the hostess podium that says we will be very pleased to help you as soon as you are off your cell phone. That kinda sets the tone for the whole customer service experience. Food good. Fans need cleaning " the oscillating fans" I dig reduce, reuse and recycle. But those church pews could use more padding.

Tried this place while on a work trip at lunch time. Not bad. For 8.95 you get a lunch special that includes you meal, sweet tea, egg drop soup, or egg roll. Portions are not bad. I had the chicken and broccoli/white rice level 5 spicy with 2 eggs rolls (mpre.like spring rolls). I gave it 4 stars because of the area (slim pickens). Super friendly staff and quick service.

Every time I try a new Thai restaurant I always seem to try their version of Pad Thai. The Pad Thai at Thai Taste is not a bad iteration of the dish. It is actually quite tasty and it tastes done right, not that I am an expert on Thai cuisine in the slightest. The food here comes hot and fresh from the kitchen and the prices are affordable just like Thai D in Marion. If I had to throw these two Thai spots in the ring though, Thai D would come out with a slight edge for me because the taste is just better in my opinion. That's not to say that Thai Taste is a bad restaurant and if you live in Carbondale it is no doubt a viable option for Thai food. I just believe that Thai D is better.

Such a great restaurant! I typically go for lunch during the week, and it's always a great time. They're quick to seat you, and food is always speedy and very fresh. Went today for lunch and got the Pad Woonsen. It was my first time trying this dish, but it was great! Went for a spice level 5, which they list as "very spicy". For me, it was perfect. I could still enjoy the taste of everything, but my sinuses were definitely cleared at the end of the meal. My favorite thing there are the fried spring rolls, however. So. Good. Order extra, because you'll want them. Also, they have a limited lunch menu. I feel like there's a good selection for lunch, but I could see how some find it limited. The price for lunch is great though - mine was under $9 and came with iced tea, soup, the entree, and a spring roll. Great deal!

My new fav Asian restaurant in Carbondale. I LOVE the egg drop soup. Reminds me of childhood when the Chinese family next door would babysit me :) the wings are so good. I hate their weird business hours tho. Hard to catch them open :/

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area to order food from. The food gets five stars but the uneven service gets 1 star only. The food is excellent and can be made to your specification of spicy from 1-10. I usually hover around the 3-5 mark. My husband, who loves spicy food, can eat a 6, but it definitely clears your sinuses and makes your eyes water! Overall, this is an excellent place to order food for carry out.

  • Justin Z.

The food here is always delicious, especially the Chicken Pad Thai. The spring rolls are great too! The service has always been top notch, and I drink a lot of tea so I usually put an extra strain on the wait staff. Thai Taste is a great local place, especially for this region.

I love this place. .great veggie spring roll. .amazing wings. I always sir l sit at the bar and the service is great. Lauren. I think her name is. Is always happy and friendly. They are usually busy as hell but I always get great service. ..

This was a very good restaurant. I had the pineapple fried rice and it was perfectly spiced and portioned. Its not a 5* because the waitress didn't ask or bring us the teas that came w the meals... :(

People say this is the best restaurant in Carbondale. Well, that is true, but only because it's the ONLY Thai restaurant in Carbondale!! I had my hopes up for this place because so many people recommended, but I was let down. When we walked it, I only saw one Thai person working in the restaurant. That should have been one clue. The restaurant is small and has a strange decor to it. A sky blue paint color. This place could have been a coffee shop before. It has a separate bar area for drinking and single parties. I didn't like the service very much. The girls took a while to check in on us after our order was taken. They disappeared for a while until we had to flag one down. The level of spiciness goes from 1-10. Five was way too spicy for me. Don't order it too high because the spiciness will build up and eventually a 5 will move up to a 8 or 9 after many bites. We ordered the tom yum chicken soup, chicken satay, pad see ewe, and yellow curry. First off, the portions are really big! That's nice for the starving college student! Leftovers! The tom yum soup had a lot of chicken and mushrooms in it, but it was more spicy than sour. I don't think they blended the two together very well. I tasted a lot of spice and pepper. The portion is good enough for four people. The chicken satay was SUPER dry! Like really dry! It was overcooked and it just got tiring to eat. The pieces were big, almost too big to be an appetizer. The best part was the small cucumber salad that came on the side. The pad see ewe was the best dish we had. Well cooked, nicely seasoned. It had a lot more meat than noodles, which I don't personally like, but you'll love it if you are a meat eater. The yellow curry was good, but too spicy for us. I wish there were more potatoes. There was too much liquid as well. More like a soup than a curry. We took it home and eat it later on and for some reason, it tasted a lot better at home. Go figure. ------------ I would say that if you want decent thai food, go to Thai-D in Marion. Having decent Asian food in this area is a luxury so I would still come back to Thai Taste, but maybe to try other dishes.

  • Rebecca C.

Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Carbondale! I usually just stick with the pad thai since it is consistently amazing. I got the broccoli delight once and it was just a disappointment. I have tried a few soups and they are been good too. Service can be slow sometimes and the hotness rating scale is inconsistent (and really not that spicy at all). But I would still eat that pad thai all day, every day.

I dont normally write reviews, but after working at restaurants for 5 years, this was the worsr service and treatment. We arrived at 5. Ordered at 525. Party of 9, but 3 children under 10 who only got a total of 2 salads and noodles. After observing 2 or 3 tables get their food AND leave before we got our food, we inquired to our server how long it would be because the children were hungry. Having been told it would still be another 10 minutes, we requested their salads and noodles. At 610 I went to find the manager, who turned out to be our server. She appeared aggravated that I was complaining about the wait, as I observed 2 additional tables get their food. She said she did not appreciate my frustration and that we were a party of 9 in a full house and that was just how it was (no sincere apology was given). Our food finally arrived at 615 and was not as good as it used to be; mediocre at best. They did not offer to take off an appetizer or any cost of the bill or attempt to correct the excessively long wait time. Needless to say, after having been a patron for over 3 years, i will never go back or recommend the restaurant. What a disappointment.

Hands down the best restaurant in the area. I had the best and most enjoyable dinner I have ever had at this place last week. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff are friendly, and the food was absolutely amazing. I am the pickiest eater on the planet, and I have nothing bad to say about this place. The meal was absolutely fantastic. Amazing. Can't wait to go back!

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Carbondale. I have had a few other dishes there, but I religiously get the "Pad Thai." Very good place. I definitely recommend it!

  • Sabina W.

From an Asian perspective, especially one that grew up fearing spicyness in a country and family that highly adores spicy food... Thai Taste's boast of spicyness is not really special. BUT the food served is actually quite tasty and the atmosphere was great. Good place for a family outing but not for large groups. Thai Taste tends to be a bit busy, so be sure to go in early for seats or you would have to split up your group!

Thai Taste is one of the best restaurants in Carbondale. Food is delicious and the service is some of the best in town. The chicken wings are some of the best I've ever had. Surprising from a Thai restaurant, but seriously they are delicious. Lunch service is also a great value! My favorite dishes are Pad Kratium Prig Thai and Pad See-Ewe. Both are super delicious. You won't be disappointed.

Delicious food and great place to have dinner with a small group of friends. Plenty of drink choices as well. Gets crowded, so make reservations or just order out. Not the most authentic, but pretty great for Southern IL.

  • Mark G.

One of the best and most unique restaurants around! Go for lunch and get the Pad Woonsen or Pad Pak special. Best bets for dinner include Pad Thai or Pad Kratium Prig Thai. Appetizers or starters like hot and sour soup or the Thai hot wings cannot be beat. We've been Thai Taste regulars for 5 years now and always enjoy the food and service -- never a bad experience with either! Skip the Chinese buffet restaurants and imitation Asian restaurants in Marion and get to Thai Taste.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
