Came here based on the recommendation of a friend and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Environment is fair and the booth we sat at was clean and comfortable. I ordered the philly pita and friend ordered the schwarma. I loved the philly pita. Extremely flavorful but not super salty either. Meat was thinly sliced but still juicy and tender. Pita came out hot and soft/fluffy. The schwarma was flavorful too and the Tahiti sauce wasnt overbearing. Chicken was tender and flavorful as well. The side rice was a little dry but it contains seasoning and fruit pieces that make it pop which made it delicious. Fries were seasoned well and came out hot and crispy. Overall quality is great. Service was good. She refilled our waters and tea regularly even after we had gotten our checks. She was very polite and checked us out at the front counter. I will be going back

I go and get the same thing every time. It's fabulous so I haven't ventured out. I get the Chicken Shawarma sandwich with the fries. Sandwiches and fries are super affordable. I paid about $10 with the tip. I usually get my order to go but have stayed and ate inside a few times as well. The atmosphere is pretty plain Jane but the service is always good, my food comes quickly, drink refills are quick and come without asking. I was there today at the change of shifts and still had great service. I have also had the Baklava. I love home made Baklava. So tasty. I think it's a bit pricey for the size but I know it's a lot of work so maybe it's priced as it should be. I leave it for a rare treat. I have recommended it to friends and actually started going on a friend's recommendation.

When considering Carbondale venues, it's great to see such a fine gem nestled in the city. The staff is welcoming and polite, exuding the very character of the owner and the warm nature of the cuisine. From shawarma to gyros to falafel, all dishes illustrate a respect for the Mediterranean culture allowing one to revel in such delicate tastes. Nothing is better than enjoying their steak shawarma whilst taking in the sun on a typical Carbondale day. Definitely the ideal place to add a little flare during a student or professors monotonous week.

I dropped in here not long ago after being on that side of town and starving. From the outside, I did not have high hopes. It's in a strip mall, the restaurant looks kinda industrial and shoddily put together, and there are plain tables inside with nothing but folding chairs. I ordered a gyro with seasoned fries and extra tzatziki sauce and pitas. It only took a few minutes to get my food. And it was great. The fries had a good seasoning on them, so they didn't taste like your typical frozen French fry. The gyro was wonderful - a very generous portion. The meat was seasoned nicely, the pita was soft, the veggies were fresh, and the tzatziki was tangy and cool. It was overall a very nice gyro. Moral of the story, don't let the outside fool you. The food is wonderful.

Fantastic food, great service, my only complaint was that the atmosphere was a little bare for a place with such delicious food. The sheer lack of decorations made me feel a little exposed, like I was in a takeout place (which they do offer btw! ). The Hummus kalaya was to die for, and the baklava fresh and warm! I will definitely be coming back soon!

We drove like bats outta hell from across town to get there before eight when they close, and I checked my phone and we still had time but they had shut down the grill early. The girl at the counter was in no way willing to let us order food and even argued that we were too late, which we were not. There was not a soul in there. I know if the owner or manager had been there they would have been happy for some sales. I have spoken to the manager and he is very nice. But this gal at the cashier was just in a hurry to go home and did not care about us. I am so sorry we were treated like that cause it makes me less inclined to come back.

Stopped in while on town for business, I've often found that mediterranean chicken kebabs are usually a solid choice when you are in an unfamiliar town. This one was "fairly good" but in my opinion could have been much better with a little more attention to detail. I ordered the chicken kebabs, which came with rice and a cabbage "slaw". I also ordered a side of tabouleh. The kebabs were spicy and a bit on the dry side, with a little to much char on them. I understand they're grilled over an open flame, but these were a tad overdone, with too much carbon flavor. The most interesting-tasting part was the rice pilaf, which was delicious, with sliced almonds and golden raisins. The cabbage slaw was shredded red cabbage with balsamic vinaigrette, it was tasty. The tabouleh was good but tasted like it had been in the fridge for a while. It was $13.99 for the kebabs and another $3.99 for the Tabouleh, so it was on the pricey side to be underwhelmed. I could go either way, maybe if there was no other Mediterranean place in Carbondale and I was in the mood for it I might go back and try something else.

I came here as a co-worker had told me it was a crime against humanity that I'd been living in Carbondale for years yet never eaten here. I had a gyro which was delicious though I'm not sure if it was all that it was praised to be. I do like how you can get rice instead of fries with your meal.

I love the food here and I have to say that Pita Alley has the best hummus in the region. I love the hummus with veggies. Their food is exceptional and the service is quick and efficient. From gyro with saffron rice to the delicious pita bread, this is a great place to get your Greek on!

I had falafel sandwich with side of rice and dolmas. The falafels themselves were very dry and overcooked. There seemed to be no tahini sauce on it at all, which made for a dry, tough to chew sandwich with not a lot of flavor. I won't give it a second chance. The rice was good, nicely spiced and with raisins. Dolmas were incredibly salty and mushy. Terrible. I will likely go back for the rice and give some of the other dishes a shot (lentil soup, hummus).

The food is fantastic! Super vegetarian friendly. I highly suggest the Lentil soup or anything with their hummus The dishes are highly colorful and taste just superb. Also when ordering opt out of their fries and get the rice side completely worth it! Staff is great, and the restaurant is a great atmosphere and very inviting.

We came for a snack and tried out their vegetarian sampler plate. Some of the falafel was burnt on the outside, but the flavor on the inside was great. Also way to much olive oil in the hummus. But I think I would go back again, the flavors were really great. Just a few technical issues.

Great alternative to El Greco if you are looking for a gyro. They do not skimp out on the gyro meat. Also, their pitas are quite large compared to their competition. As for the taste, it is just like any other gyro. In addition to the gyro, I highly recommend the hummus. Very smooth, yet rich. Refills on pitas for the hummus are mere pennies, and well worth it. Again, they don't skimp on the amount of hummus you get, and I usually have to take some home. Also, this place says they have authentic Lebanese food, and looking at their overall menu, I can state that this is the case. While I haven't eaten the Lebanese food, I would highly recommend trying it based on the quality their other food. I highly recommend Pita Alley next time you are in Carbondale.

At first I thought that this was going to be another standard pita restaurant like pita pit. But I was largely mistaken. It is Mediterranean to the core and super delicious. The portion sizes are awesome for the price as well. Also, as a vegetarian I was really appreciative that they had something for me to eat in each section of the menu. I will definitely be returning and eating here.

Had the baba ganoush, steak kebab, and shish kebab. Very tasty food. Reason it's 4 stars is because a couple of cubes of steak I got were a bit bloody still. They took it back and gave me a whole new plate though.

As a Greek person from Chicago, it's nice to see a Mediterranean food place that doesn't suck open in Carbondale. It's hard to find (a few doors down from Radio Shack but no sign) but delicious, well-priced food. I just had the gyros sandwich but it was very good -- far better than El Greeco's offering (though smaller). The menu offers a good selection of typical dishes so I'm excited to try the rest of the stuff. Nice interior, bright, good furniture. Dine-in and carryout...both seem fairly fast. Woohoo

The fare here is Mediterranean, for southern Illinois. Don't expect anything too exotic. However, what they do offer is done right. This is one of the few places where falafel is on the menu. The falafel is done perfectly every time, no dry or grainy texture whatsoever. Lot's of vegetarian selections on the menu as well!

I'm very glad to see a Middle Eastern restaurant in Carbondale. What I've had to eat has been tasty (shawarma, baba ganoush), but I felt the portions were on the small side. I also was sad that the shawarma is not cooked on a spit. The meat is sliced beef, kind of on the chunky side. The baba ganoush was very good, but only came with one pita. You do get a pretty large portion of that, so it should come with more than one pita. I again have to stress that I'm VERY glad to see a Middle Eastern restaurant in Carbondale. And I have to add that I was very spoiled, living near Kedzie Ave. in Chicago. Mere blocks from some of the best Middle Eastern food.

Impeccable quality food, takes a bit longer than a regular gyro shack, but totally worth it. You can taste that the food is made from scratch. We've had gyros, shawarma, hummus, falafels, baba g. and an awesome dolmades. I judge mexican and greek places by how much care they put in the basics, such as rice. Yum! Unlike the previous reviewer, I have had the most wonderful service with gracious people while the owner always stops by to greet us. I am waiting for halal chicken charcoal cooked which is the closest I can find to a Peruvian chicken place. Definitely a plus in Carbondale!
