One of my favorite pizza joints. It's been around a LONG time and has stood the test of time and passing fads. It's thin crust pizza with a sweetish sauce. My fav is the hamburger and mushroom. Roast beef sandwich is solid, too. Salad bar is small, but quality.

This place is less than desirable. We were looking for pizza and figured we would try this place out. Every other place was packed except for this. Case and point. They didn't ruin the pizza, which was okay but they ruined the pizza experience. You order your food then sit down and they call your number. I don't know if they were trying to bring the fast food pizza concept into a college town or really a piss poor copy of Gino's East in Chicago with the decor and serve McDonald's quality pie. There was writing on the wall with visitors names and the table and chairs were that of folding tables that your parents had in their basement. If we were to come back, it would only be to try a beef sandwich to go.

While yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and there are other items on the menu at Italian Village, this is predominantly a local pizza place. Dating back to 1960 and better known as "IV's" by locals, pizza has been their specialty and is distinctly different than other pizza joints in the vicinity. Located within walking distance of the Southern Illinois University campus, Italian Village is a favorite of students and families alike. We all know there are as many different variations of pizza as there opinions, with that said, this place is worth trying. Not my favorite local pizza maker, (Quatro's is #1 on my list) but better than any pizza chain you'll find. Ingredients are fresh, sauce is slightly on the sweet side, and you won't leave hungry. Atmosphere is very casual and to be quite honest, the facility is in dire need of a renovation, but if that is the furthest thing from your mind, add IV's to your rotation of pizza delivery!

SALTY SALTY SALTY It is a college town dumpy bar that over salts everything to get the customers to buy more beer. It is filthy, sticky crusty tables, strangely located restrooms and the whole place is DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY! IT IS NOT A FAMILY RESTAURANT! There is NO service you order at the bar and the cashier clearly would rather be anywhere else. The food is NOT cheap and the salty portions are small. We left not even finishing our food. Its too bad because it looks like it once was a very cool and nice family place.

I have not been to IVs in a while because the last time I was here I was completely turned off by the taste of the pizza. The sauce was, for some reason, very sweet tasting to me. I'm not sure why but it honestly felt like sugar was thrown in to the sauce, which probably came out of a can. I just think that this pizza is gross but if sweet tasting pies are your kind of thing then IVs is your place. I'll tell you right now though, you're much better off going to Quatro's.

Last night was my first visit to Carbondale's Italian Village, aka IV's. When you come in, don't wait to be seated (oops). Walk up to the counter to place your order and then your number will be called over a loudspeaker. There was a sign on the register asking that patrons pay with cash because credit cards charge fees..blah blah..but cards are accepted but pay cash... confusing!!! I used my card, muahaha. I ordered the veggie pizza which came with broccoli, tomato, mushroom, green pepper and onion. The small size was $11. The veggies were delish. The crust was thin and crisp around the edges but a bit soggy in the middle. This was evident in the middle piece since they cut the pizza into squares. This place boasts that it's been around since 1960 and it shows! Their "leaning tower of pizza" is odd...filled with busty mannequins...like I said, odd. The salad bar is shaped like a boat and the booths are an ancient dark green. The real defining factor is the graffiti on the walls, and chairs and even the ceiling! For some reason, they let people wreck the place? Come on, are they trying to be a dive bar? Oh well - do as the locals do. Don't forget the free soft serve ice cream cone for dessert.

dingy, dark, old, dated....but it all works for this little pizzeria. A staple among the vast pizza shops in the tiny town of Carbondale. Good for take-out, or a quick bite to eat. I would pass on the salad bar, and grap the spaghetti or any pizzas.

2 stars because it's convenient and the pizza is decent. The seafood ravioli I got last visit was lukewarm and my girlfriend's lasagna tasted like pizza. Gross. Use different sauces please. The salads we had were ok. All-in-all this is one of thise places people have gone to for a long time. It's likely though, that as time passes they will go out of business because they obviously don't read reviews and change anything. Oh and that first five-star review? Obviously written by the owners. Nice try though.

We go here for the pizza and salad bar. -DO NOT- order the pasta. We tried the pasta once almost 2 years ago, and it was so gross that we didn't go back for a year. So, thin crust pizza, salad bar, and free ice cream cones for dessert. Also, sign your name on something before you leave.

I wasn't real impressed with this place. The pasta is pretty average, and they take forever to make it. The atmosphere is kinda cool with all the antiques around. One thing I found pretty good was the baked spaghetti, so give that a try. Prices are eh... ok I guess, but give it a try.

I thought this place was kitschy and cool. Love the decor. It's like a multi level/ multi layered cave. Just watch your step and you'll be fine. Where I come from this place would be considered hip. The walls are covered with graffiti (you can grab a pen and add your own). It's a little confusing but you go to the counter, order, pay and then they call your number. Not a wide beer selection but a 60 oz pitcher is only $7. Looks like they have a neat outdoor section, a bar, a salad bar and a game room. For fifty cents you can get a soft serve cone fro dessert. We tried the pepperoni and also the taco pizza. The taco pizza rocked my world; I couldn't stop eating it. Who would have thought that lettuce and jalapenos on a pizza would work, but it did. The pepperoni was just okay. They use thin crust and cut square slices so although it was unexpected, it still had decent flavor. I think this place is fun and cool. Not gourmet but full of ambiance.

Supposedly this place use to be good. But that is no longer the case. Food is cheaply made with poor ingredients and over salted. Carbondale seriously needs to give up on local Italian. They all do it poorly

I did not the like the food-at all. My daughter didn't either and she's a starving college student. who survives mostly on snack foods. Go figure. In fact, we didn't even eat it. I wrapped it up, carried it around for hours and traveled back to Chicago with it because I'm a cheapskate and don't like to waste anything. I'll find something to do with it I suppose. Fettucine alfredo with chicken: the sauce was very heavy and it just didn't taste good. Lasagna: Way way off- I don't know. We just weren't happy with our food. The best of luck to them anyway.

Very good pizza. They have frozen ones to go. Owners are really nice and will help with anything you need. Salad bar isn't shabby either.

Food poisoning: A friend and me went to dinner here last night for the first time. We wanted to try something new...well something new was right. I've been up since 2:30am vomiting my brains out and with horrible cramps. I keep throwing up the salad I had from the salad bar. Sooo if you want some good ol fashioned food poisoning, this is a good place...otherwise, stay FAR away.

Carbondale institution and always fun to go to but really the pizza is only sub par and the salad bar isn't worth the price.

Great little place, but $25. For a large pizza and 2 drinks? Too expensive and no free ice cream!

The pizza here is not very good. It honestly reminds me of frozen Tombstone Pizza. The other items, sandwiches and pasta are pretty good, and I'm a sucker for a salad bar. Overall this place is pretty mediocre but its a Carbondale landmark. If you go don't forget to bring a sharpie and sign the wall...

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
