Here right now sitting at the sushi bar. Great, great experience. Comped little amuse buche to start followed with tempura appetizer, a Dragon roll, crunchy shrimp roll, ice cream tempura and banana tempura for desert. Everything was wonderful! Andrew our Server was spot on, too. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back. Very affordable, too.

Solid food and the cook was really entertaining. Good prices as well The steak was the best, followed by the scallops. The chicken could have been more flavorful but I like heavy flavor and seasonings. If everyone seasoned things to my taste, they may go out of business (But the patrons would know what great food tastes like) It should probably get 5 stars since it's in Bourbonnais and was MUCH better than I was expecting from the area, not to mention the bad reviews in here which we read after sitting down. Whatever the kinks were from the early reviews, they've certainly worked them out. The service was very good, which was a sticking point in the earlier reviews. I had my sweet tea refilled 4 times without asking. And as an iced tea aficionado, their sweet tea rivaled what you would get from the good places in the south Very happy we went there today and i would go back in a heartbeat One thing I wish they'd add, is egg yolk sauce. There's nothing like it on scallops and shrimp

Only 2 stars because of the very long wait to get our food and also to get our bill. Our waitress was friendly and the food was delicious (tropical roll). However, I'm not cool with waiting about an hour for food when they weren't that busy and it was 8pm when we arrived.

Everything was excellent! Not officially open yet but everything exceeded our expectation. Had some tuna sashimi for appetizer and hibachi entrees were steak & scallop and veggie. So glad we don't have to drive north. Come check this place out!

Husband wanted to try this out tonight...I was pretty apprehensive. To my surprise, it was very very good. The decor was very chic-Japanese, we were seated quickly and our server was very attentive. I had the filet and my husband had the filet and shrimp. Both of us were impressed and will be back. Good job Bradley, Illinois....another restaurant worth going to!

It was ok.. For the money I'd go to Hamada .. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The hibachi chef was cheerful, and friendly. Now the bad, food was just ok.. I love grilled veggies... I was seated at a corner of the table. He was constantly feeding the other patrons. My veggies was all onions and 2 mushrooms yes just two .. I ordered the chicken and shrimp..it seemed I was always last to be served and because of this I got the dried out chicken and the barely left over shrimp.. Normally when I eat at an hibachi restaurant I can never finish my plate, not tonight .. It's like he kept forgetting I was sitting there... Doubt I will return.. I've had way better experience at Hamada.

Currently here now...very disappointed. We've been here since 7pm and at almost 10pm we still haven't received all of our food. Food was decent but the wait ruined it. Not to mention when sitting at the bar before we got our table there was over 30 dirty glasses including ones all over the sushi bar!! Gross!!!! The bartender was cleaning the dirty glasses to get drink orders filled! Outrageous never coming back. Can't handle a crowd and now that there are hardly any people here they still can't handle it. Ridiculous.

The bad reviews seem unfair. The food is very good the staff is friendly, and the beer and wine selection is also very good. Our group of 12 ordered a wide variety of sushi and entrées with zero complaints. ZERO. The interaction with the chefs made the night entertaining for our large group, other families and couples also seemed to be having a lot of fun. Prices are very reasonable

I have to say first that we are going to try to stop back by here on our way back to Texas, it was great! I would like to try the Seafood this time, Salmon and Shrimp most likely. While trying to find suitable clothing on a trip up north to visit family (it got colder than we expected - we're from Texas, but even so didn't expect the sudden chill factor we ran into, not to mention the horrible weather) the alluring scent of this restaurant lead us to it - inside a small mall, of all places. Although we are from a small town, we love Food, and love variety and trying new things. We have tried plenty of Chinese style foods at various places, but tend to veer towards comfort Southern Food, Tex-Mex, German, and Italian restaurants We had never been to a full Hibachi restaurant (there is a chef on the Hibachi at a Buffet place in our town but no where near the same), were hungry, and the aroma was driving hubby over the edge, so we took a chance. We went in and had Steak (for hubby), Chicken (for me) hibachi entree with the rice and veggies (adding noodles, gotta love em). Pretty basic and tame for most I'm sure, but we were dipping toes in the water here, ya'll. I'm not sure if it was late lunch special, or early bird, but we were first caught up in how nice everyone from the hostess to the waitress were to us. I was almost overwhelmed with how they seemed to go out of their way (from the hostess to, later, the chef) to make sure our little stop was an experience. Upon learning we had never had Japanese before they went out of their way to explain some things, and asked if we were traveling for a special occasion. I said it was to see family, but that it also a shared birthday celebration for myself and our Grandmother. That seemed to make them extremely happy! From that point on, it seemed a true celebration, and I received a Happy Birthday song, led by the chef, complete with a special birthday trick on the grill (as well as all the utensil twirling and clanging and plenty of humor) and Saki streamed into our mouths for an 8 count And even though we were at a table alone we had a full show it seems. Most of the other tables were almost, if not, filled. We enjoyed a true entertainment by the chef as we watched him prepare fresh ingredients for our meal, as well as more tricks, and then there it was.... that lovely scent that brought us here. After getting saki squirted into my mouth, raw cucumber tossed from the chef at us to catch in our mouths, I was thrilled to have such a wonderful explosion of flavor in my mouth at the first bite. The chef had explained (in broken English) what he was doing, and adding, at each section, but I;m afraid I couldn't keep up very well. It turned out wonderful though, delicious and cooked just right. I remember because I am nibbling on leftovers while I type. We had way more food than the two of us could eat at one setting (I warmed some up at the hotel where we are staying). And now, since I decided to do a rare review for me, my first here in fact - I will try to round it out: The Atmosphere of the restaurant was appropriate, and extremely neat and clean (especially for someplace where the chefs seem to often toss food at patrons!) The Front of House, Wait Staff were very helpful, and pleasant. They seemed to want to make sure we had a great first time here, and we never lacked of drink refills (Soda for hubby, Lemon Water for me) or anything else. The Chef was amusing, seemed competent, and to be enjoying himself. The food was fresh tasting, sauces were good, the steak was tender and the chicken moist. All in all, a rare find for a mall restaurant. At least in my humble opinion. I hope it remains that way, and I wish them good business in future. They made our day, for sure.

This place is shady and terrible. They just posted their own glowing review of their own business, with pictures that were not even representative of what the food looks like. There was more food in these pictures than several tables could eat, and some were even taken in the kitchen! Even if Yelp makes them take it down, I'm sure that they're going to keep trying to post good reviews of their own restaurant. I ate here, and the food was nothing like pictured. None of the fancy sauces, sushi was just thrown on the plate with hardly enough wasabi to count. I didn't even get a dish in which to put soy sauce. The taste was mediocre at best. The dressing on the salad was almost like sugar. That was, of course, once I got my food. Service was rude and terrible. Maybe because they were in the kitchen taking pictures of food that never got to the customers.

My boyfriend and I have been coming to Kansai since it opened and we've never been disappointed. We are hibachi addicts and love that there is an option in town. The owner/manager Mike is super nice and he always takes care of us. From the servers, chefs, and food, everything is great. The chefs are entertaining and friendly and they do a very good job cooking our food. I would highly recommend coming here for a great meal and dining experience!

Very entertaining and very delicious. The steak and scallop hibachi dinner was just fantastic. Great fried rice and the yum yum sauce is addicting. It was my first hibachi experience and it sure won't be my last. I'd highly recommend Kansai

I have experienced both the hibachi side and sushi side. While with a group of friends for a birthday meeting, my wife and I are the hibachi table side and also ordered a couple sushi rolls. That night was busy and we were in a party of 16 so I understood a longer response time. The sushi was prompt and delicious, but the hibachi left much to be desired. The beginning soup was that of any other teppan venue, but the salad was horrible. Dressings were either ranch or house ginger. The obvious choice was house ginger........wrong. This tasted like mayo, peanuts, honey mustard, and a hint of citrus. Disgusting. Not like that of any of the 8+ hibachi steakhouses we have been to. Friend rice was unflavored, and sticky. Veggies were very good. 2 itty bitty shrimp for app, and the filet was decent, cooked to medium, but unflavored. The show was what can be expected. The next visit was lunch time and at the sushi bar. We got two soups and 2 rolls each. Very filling, made expertly in front of us, and delicious. Drinks are priced right. But beware of the gross dressing and lack of seasoning.

The only reason I didn't go for five stars was my lack of hibachi experience. The previous negative reviews must have been made while this place was still working out the kinks of being new. My sister and I went during the lunch hour on a week day. There was no wait. I'll agree the hostesses were young and didn't seem too interested but not so with the servers and chef. I wanted hibachi so we sat at the grill. I asked my server if the chicken or shrimp is better. She said people like the chicken better. I knew she wasn't after my money because it was cheaper...I respect that. I don't like sushi but the presentation of my sister's was beautiful and she enjoyed it. I got the lunch hibachi with chicken. For $8.99 I got soup as well as rice, chicken and veges done on the grill in front of me. Our chef didn't do any type of show (there were only two of us and we didn't mind) but I did see one at another table that looked fun. Food was excellent and I highly recommend the Yum Yum sauce. Enjoy!

i gave this place 2 stars for the great sushi thats it(american dream sushi roll) we decided to get the regular dine in because the hibachi grill had a 2 hour wait! It was a friday, understandable. We were greeted well from the server and after that it went downhill. Ordered drinks had to wait 10 minutes for straws. Gentleman and a lady were sitting next to our table before us. Server comes out to bring food was about to give it to us had the wrong table it was the couple next to us which ended up being the womans food. As we got our sushi waitress tells me im not sure why they sent you another order of sushi. Umm NO i told her we didnt recieve it remember u almost gave us the wrong order!! Then tells my wife u didnt order soup but im going yo give you anyway trying to be nice because food was taking long. ummm no, her dinner was supposed to come with the soup. I ordered steak and lobster, lobster came extremly salty and steak was cold, ughh. The couple next to us which i felt very very bad for the lady had recieved her food but the gentlan didnt!! I felt his frustration. He finally is getting a salad from the waitress for god knows how long and she drops it on the floor !! Then tells the man sorry about the wait its still cooking. When the man tells the server CANCEL the order which at this point i do not blame him at all. I was expecting the manager to come out and say your wifes food is on the house , NO still charges her for her food . I couldnt believe it! Waitress puts the check i put money no thank you have a great day enjoy our evening NOTHING . The owner has potential with this place. But he definetly needs to re-evaluate the whole crew that works there, well at least for the dining side none of the servers seemed happy its as if they are forced to work or something, fix this place before it goes right before ur eyes

I have never written a Yelp review before, but today I experienced service so bad, I finally have to bite the bullet. This is by far and away the worst service I have ever had at any dining establishment. I just spent an entire evening watching my wife eat her dinner, but ultimately wound up leaving after not receiving any food whatsoever (except for some ballistic lettuce that was flung in my direction; I did not actually eat this however). I ordered the hibachi Salmon, very simple, nothing fancy and no special requests. My wife ordered an avocado salad and two maki rolls. 20 minutes after placing our oder, a man showed up and attempted to deliver us two steak entrees (not ours). I would later learn this was the manger. Anyhow, about 5-10 minutes after that, my wife received both her salad and sushi entree (all at once). My wife waited awhile for my order to arrive, but eventually gave up and started eating. I spent the next 40 minutes watching my wife both start and finish her entire meal. I did not see our waitress at all during this time. Once she had completely finished her meal, and we both finished our iced tea (never refilled), our waitress stopped by and literally, asked me what was missing. I replied, "Uh, my entire dinner...???". She disappeared for a few minutes then returned apparently to let me know that it would "only be a few more minutes". I pointed out to her that I was pretty sure a salad came with my entree and since I was now like an hour into this, I thought I at least deserved that. "Oh no problem". She showed back up a few minutes later with a salad. Finally, food. Except... she fumbled, and instead of actually giving me my salad, she lost her grip on the bowl and spilled it all over the chair across from me, the floor, and part of our table. We aren't complainers, or heartless, horrible, abusive diners, but at this point, it was clearly a failed evening. Our waitress, unprompted, offered to send the manager over to "cancel our entire check". A few minutes later, the manager (the guy who tried two deliver us the two wrong entrees in the first place) shows up. After a cursory apology, he immediately launched into excuses about how it takes "at least 35 minutes to make a Hibachi order" oblivious to the fact that I'd been there nearly twice that long. He then proceeded to tell me that Sushi is considered an appetizer there (come on) and used that as the excuse for why my wife finished her entire meal-- basically insinuating this whole thing was somehow our fault. He then tells me, "No problem, I'll just cancel both of your salmon hibachi orders". "What?" I said. We only ordered one! He looked at me with more confusion but said, "okay, I'll just cancel that then". He left, and I sat there for a few more minutes fidgeting with my iPhone trying to find a real restaurant nearby that serves seafood (Friday during Lent), hoping to avoid the dreaded Filet'O'Fish. But here is the best part... while I'm sitting there, the manager walks back over and hands me a bill for my wife's food and our ice teas, $17. Wow. Just wow. My wife paid the bill (I had already walked out in disgust at this point) , and apparently the other servers in the place were apologetic and seemed shocked that the guy had the audacity to still hand us a bill. Bottom lime, this place is a clown shoe operation. It is not cheap, and I have never left a restaurant so disappointed or angry in my life. Spare yourself the misery. Go ANYWHERE else in town.

Fun place for a large group of people....a little more exciting than other places like this. The veggies were really fresh, everyone liked their food.

We were excited to check out Kansai as it was yet another new restaurant in our area. Key word: WERE. Since our trip I've quickly posted to Facebook, warning others to avoid it and stick to the other new restaurant in town with similar offerings as it is far superior. Our first tip should have been that it was in our mall. It took over the old Ruby Tuesday's spot, and while we thought it was going to be a complete overhaul. Not the case, however, as it seemed that some of the staff were even reused from Ruby Tuesday's. It even seemed like they used the same Ruby Tuesday's uniforms and just had their Kansai branding placed on them. We were greeted with an hour wait for Hibachi. That was understandable as it was a Saturday night at 6pm. We opted for just the dining area to avoid the wait and were promptly seated. We ordered shortly thereafter, had salad/soup by 6:15, food around 6:45, and then we were done by 6:55 because the food just wasn't that great. The fried rice was bland white rice with some egg that seemed like it had been steamed. The clear soup tasted very much like a chicken broth with possibly ramen broth mixed in. We were presented with three options for salad dressing: french, ranch, and a house. When we asked if the house was a ginger style dressing the response was "yes" but when it arrived it tasted more like a mix of mayonnaise, peanuts, and honey mustard. My wife ordered filet medium-well but when it arrived it was cut very thin and looked more like a standard steak. After several pieces she complained of it tasting like styrofoam and being rubbery in texture and did not finish eating it. I ordered the salmon and was impressed by the portion that came to me. There were two separate salmon filets on my plate.. the first I ate was perfect: fully cooked, flaked off as salmon should, and the teriyaki on it was amazing. I wasn't so lucky with the second filet. Around halfway through it I felt like something was off. It was no longer flaking apart and I took a closer look: it was bright pink. Practically not cooked... but just half of it. Each meal came with two shrimp, with the tails left on, and I didn't dare try it even though I love shrimp. Veggies were overcooked.. mushy and bland. More attention could have been taken to preparing the mushrooms as it was mixed bits of stems and caps. It looked like an amateur prepared the meal at home. When the server asked if we needed boxes I brought both the "filet" (steak) and the salmon to her attention. She brought it to her manager and he came out to speak with us, although instead of addressing our concerns he defended their selection of food and their cooking. (It felt like Kitchen Nightmares at this point.) He stated that if I order salmon again I should ask for it "more well done" but ignored the fact that the first half was done perfectly. He also assured us that the filet was the finest available but "maybe the piece that ended up on my wife's plate wasn't the best." He never addressed the fact that I doubted it was filet at all. What he did do, after defending his food and telling us how to order next time, was offer a discount, which ended up being 20%. Nothing seemed to flow from the two TVs in the dining area playing whatever show was on a random Comcast channel at the time to the overall diner atmosphere. They had salt, pepper, two soy sauces, and an assortment of sugar on every table, in a metal condiment holder. Servers were in "diner mode" .. calling customers "hun" and overall not meshing with the feel of an Asian establishment. They didn't seem to always know what food/drinks the customers were ordering and seemed to struggle to answer simple questions like difference in noodles. One thing I can say for them is that I was impressed by the beer selection. They even had a craft section (which contained two beers) on the menu... but, again, it didn't flow. This isn't where I'd expect craft beer. There are other places in town for that. Bring a jacket if you plan on coming and be prepared to take it off, put it back on, and then take it back off. The temperature was constantly fluctuating in the dining area. For 2 meals, a soda, and a beer, it would have been over $50. The 20% discount brought it down to $41 and some change. My stomach was queasy after we left and we were both starving an hour later. Other observations: We sat near another couple who were holding menus as we walked in and looking around for their server well after we had ordered.. from what I overheard they had waited 15 minutes to be taken care of. Shortly thereafter a server was sent around to each of the tables just to ensure everyone had had their order taken. A family next to us kept sharing their food back and forth, curious if they received the right thing. "This tastes like pork. I ordered chicken. Does yours taste right? No, it tastes like shrimp." I CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH THAT YOU TRY SOMEWHERE ELSE.
