Whatever opening issues this place may have had are not apparent to me. Great parking, a nice way to start Seat yourself, don't mind if I do. Metro cocktail was just what I like down to the sugar on the rim Rotisserie chicken came with.a sweet/hot bbq sauce on the side I indulged in The foot long hot dog is even longer I think. Delicious. Mac and cheese as a side and I huge portion. Taking cheese cake home for dessert. Jenny was our server, awesome job.

I'm a little upset at this place since I'm always here , as a senior advisor for Yelp.com I can only be honest and truthful to my ability about a restaurant business and its culture of chefs that think they know everything about the menu of that business I think the chef here can cook, but I think for example the Steak dinner I had here, well it really wasn't a dinner if you just get a steak, the stark here didn't come with potatoes or asparagus or any other sides with it, just by itself, this place doesn't specialize in just steaks like Ruth Chris's steakhouse, and even they add some sides to there steak for $26 a plate , I think by giving me a good steak with little side of grille onions that look like it came from a small corner restaurant Ice had much bigger grilled onions from small taco stands than here. I think the chef cooks good he just bees ms to be a little open to offer customers more to there meal and make a REAL MEAL , not a joke of a steak wanna be dinner. I'm very upset At this place since ice had the best experience when it comes to food which i do very well, and the bar tenders here are always great with the best service I still get compared to others. Frank Thomas , open your menu book and do t be afraid to offer more for your customers so they will want to come back and not curse you guys for screwing them over on a $26 steak meal that had nothing to it . Remember this , when I was a district operations training manager for Home Depot for 20 years , ice always told my associates this, "the customers don't need you, they can find 30 other home improvement places that could take care of them and get them what they want, YOU need them!!! And when you see a customer walking out to there car without any bags or no merchandise in there arms, you chase them down and ask them what was it that made them walk out without buying anything or was it the service and then you take a piece of paper in front of that customers and write down and take notes of what he was upset about and remember that for the rest of your life " remember the customer is always right even if they are wrong, period!!! So if it's a certain type of merchandise take that customers info and you go to a store that will sell it and buy it and take it to that customers house and say your sorry for not having that product and ask him /her to give you another opportunity for there business and you will gain there confidence for the rest of there lives. Business today will never be like what I did for a customer like what I just mentioned, people just don't care anymore and therefor new and old businesses will soon shut down. So give what you think customers should get when it comes to a REAL MEAL!!! M That's all!!! You will always be successful forward in life Insisted of always worrying about closing down a new restaurant which does happen, make Chris accountable for your losses Ryan Gutierrez Other than that, I love everyone here !!!

It's a decent place to have drinks, watch sports and to have a bite. Being a bit of a lightweight, I prefer fruitier (sugary) cocktails. I was less than impressed with the lighter options here, but there was at least one hard cider so I was able to get something -which is required if you belly up to the bar. We stopped in on a Sunday and we ordered a few appetizers to go along with our beverages. I was a little disappointed in the food items too. So much so that we decided against packing them up to take home. I loved the decor and number of televisions. It's a great place to watch any type of sporting event especially with a group of friends. While it is not a place I would view as a new hangout, I think it is a great option in this area. If/when I do return, I would definitely order something different on the menu.

Was here for a 15 guest party out in the patio on a Saturday evening. Place was practically empty! Not good. Whoever owns this place, I mean, come one! You are in a great place!! The place is beautiful! Great location! Nothing in Berwyn like it! I've live in Berwyn for 15 years and I would have loved a place like this in my day!! Great hangout place! But noooo! But I have to say a few things. The one reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because your home brew (Hall of Fame) is okay. Not great. But okay. And it was the only beer that I liked that you had! Even some of your home brews you were out, which I can understand to some extend, but if you have been open for a few months, you should be pretty well stocked. I was disappointed I couldn't try most or all of them. Out of your whole beer list. Which was a pretty big list. You had nothing in stock. I probably choose like 6 beers before I settled on 1 of your home brew. I couldn't believe it! We ordered a round of patron shot, needless you didn't have patron either. The appetizers weren't bad. Waiters were super friendly and attentive to our large party. That's the reason you get another stars. You can't beat a friendly staff. Didn't try the food. So no remark on that end. Overall, If you don't mind the lack of brew at a microbrewery. by all means. Enjoy the food. And let me know how it is.

I've been meaning to check this place out since it opened, especially since it's so close to where I use to live as a child. I must say, stunning rebuild! They put in a lot of work to rehab this place. I love that they kept the original safe (formally a bank), and turned it into a party room/gaming section. Pretty cool. Place was kind of dead for a Sunday afternoon. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks. Our bartender was friendly and attentive. The drinks were nothing special, and he must of not been feeling generous that day, because I immediately had to ask for a stronger drink. Overall, the place is great, and very spacious. Job well done on the rehab of the place! I didn't get a chance to try anything on the menu, but I'll be back a second time.

PROS: They have over 30 beers on tap including the 2 house beers. BIG HURT BREWS... Honeygirl (honey wheat beer) and HOF ( a pilsner). Both beers were good if you like light beers. Wings were fire grilled, not fried..I liked them. Smothered fries were also good. Frank was there and he greeting fans and taking pictures, that deserves an extra star. CONS: 1. not great to watch a game.. there are many tvs but they are far away from most tables and booths or they are in weird angels. 2. Their menu is small 3. They charged $3 for parking. Wanted to give it 3.5 stars.. but feel pressured since I was the first reviewer.

This was such a great spot to bring a large crowd of people. We celebrated my dad's 56th birthday here, and loved it. Great food, great service and great beer selection. The manager even bought us a round of appetizers. We will be back for sure.

Review #250 - 1/4 of the way to the big 1,000! This review--much like any one of Frank Thomas's 521 career homers--is long, but oh-so-definitely worth it. Intrepid Yelpers, read on! First thing's first: has anyone seen the movie "The Slammin Salmon"? It's from the same talented troupe of guys who brought you the comedies "Beerfest" and "Super Troopers". Anywho, the (highly enjoyable) movie is about a former heavyweight athlete who opens up a restaurant and makes appearances from time to time to mingle with guests/fans. Sound familiar? It should, because that premise is EXACTLY what Big Hurt's Brewhouse is. The parallels drawn between TSS and BHB are so many, it's uncanny. [end tangent] Well folks, much like the Hall of Famer's storied career, experiences here are either a 'no-doubter' home run......or a strikeout. I'm happy to report that my dinner trip here was wonderful, but a follow-up visit by my mother for lunch was a disappointment, so your experience may vary substantially. From what I've seen, many negative experiences stem from a lousy lunch outing, and most positive experiences happen at peak hours on weekend evenings. Here's my take on #35's namesake restaurant: We started off with a chicken flatbread which was, well, flat--in both geometry and flavor. Fortunately our server brought us a cup of in-house buffalo sauce, which was perfectly peppery and very tasty. Sometimes hot sauce can make a big difference. I opted for the soup + sandwich combo, which was an excellent choice. The beer cheese soup was *amazingballs*, and the 1/2 prime rib sandwich was delicious and filling, not to mention a great value. Good fries, too. My dad gave his burger two thumbs up, and my mom gave her bacon mac'n'cheese two thumbs way up. I loved the 'Honeygirl' beer, which was in the style of a belgian wheat ale. The two end booths have built-in tappers stocked with their own homebrews, which is an extremely slick feature. You bet your ass I'm reserving one of those next time. The only real misstep of the meal was dessert, for which we ordered the red velvet cupcake. It was decidedly dry and I stopped after one bite. Our server was good--not great, but good. The floor manager came around a few times to check on patrons, which is always appreciated (you better believe we notice things like this!) The ambiance......ohhhh the ambiance. SO cool. Housed in the old American State Bank building, the restaurant has a huge vaulted ceiling and painted dome with incredible artistry. The venue has awesome historical significance, and instead of electing to bulldoze and start fresh (like many do), Frank left the façade untouched--a smart move. Quite honestly, even if the food doesn't 'wow' you, it's worth your time/money to come here to see the interior and enjoy a beer. ......Did I mention we got to meet and talk to the Big Guy himself? Because we freaking did (see attached photo). Note that the smiles are 100% genuine: Frank is smiling because we just dropped $100+ at his restaurant, and we're smiling because we got to meet a baseball superstar. Hell yeah buddy! Personally, I loved BHB, would return, and would highly recommend......for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night, when the odds of seeing Frank are greatest. _____________ Here's the TL;DR version-- 4.5/5, rounding up because I'm the biggest White Sox fan you'll likely ever meet; I've seen Frank play many games with the palehose, I was present when they unveiled a bronze statue of him at Sox park, and both my old man and I were in attendance when they retired his number on-field in a very emotional ceremony. He's forever a Southside legend, and his Berwyn restaurant pays great homage to the man. Great food overall, solid beer, and spectacular atmo. So it gives me great pleasure to say the following: You can put this one on the booooooaarrdd, YYYES!

Mixed reviews of this place made me desperate to try out Big Hurt Brewhouse. Plus, I'd heard of many run ins with the Big Hurt himself there, so I wanted to try my luck at meeting him! Seemed kind of ominous how empty it was on a Thursday night, but the staff was friendly, and able to seat us quickly. Table and chair was a little awkwardly wobbly, but other than that, the set up looked very nice, with large red booths in the back, short and tall tables, plus a bar. The site is so cool with its high, elaborate ceiling, and converted vault room, and Frank Thomas memorabilia. It was visually pleasing. I ordered the Honey Girl Big Hurt Brew, which was good. Wheaty, mild, a little bit sweet. You can order any of there draft beers in 12, 16 or 20oz pours too! For food, we were starving so we ordered the bbq chicken smothered sweet potato fries. Seemed delicious in concept, came out warm, not super hot (the cheese had already gone cold on it). It was a large portion good for sharing but not great in taste. The BBQ chicken was a little too sweet. The flavors weren't a great mix. For food, I wanted to try something different and got a Salmon BLT with fries. My date got the pulled pork mac and cheese. Again, the salmon BLT with avocado just wasn't a stellar mix of flavors, IMO. The portion was large though, and the bacon was crispy, which wins points back for me! Fries were ample and flavorful, and also held up for when I had leftovers. My date proclaimed his mac just OK. It looked a little dry when it came out, and the pulled pork wasn't amazing, he told me. Overall, it was an OK experience, but nothing to write home about.

This was my first time here and it was a nice experience. I brought my family out and our server was Melissa who was very delightful. The food was really good and the service was quick. I will definitely come back and recommend this place to everyone!

This is our first visit, wasn't sure what to expect, it's really a treat! We were graciously greeted by our server, we were able to sit outside by the warm fire on a cool summer evening, and the Francisco, manager Francisco made sure to visit with us numerous times to check on our experience. Loved, loved, loved The Metro. It's Grey Goose Cherry Noir Vodka, Cointreau, Black Currant, Lime, Cranberry Juice served in a chilled sugar rimmed glass. Tasted just perfect! We had wings, the mac n cheese, and creamed corn. Serving sizes were just right due to the quality of the food. All were tasty, especially the creamed corn, yum, yum!!! Did I mention that I really liked the creamed corn?!? Looking forward to our next visit, want to try other menu items, and specialty drinks. I'm talking about you Southside Island Punch!!!

I really want to like this place like REALLY!!! It is right down the street from my house and there is nothing else in Berwyn so note to management get it together and you are sitting on a goldmine!!!! My boyfriend and I went the first week it was open and had one of the worst dining experience ever. A million staff members running around but not really doing anything. They ended up comping our bill bc it was so bad (wrong food, missing food, overlooked food etc). It was their first week so we thought we would wait a while and try it again (next time do a soft opening with friends and family and fix the problems before opening your doors) Fast forward a couple months and very little has changed. We went around 530 on a Friday night and the place was virtually empty (should have been our first clue to leave). It was a beautiful day so we sat outside and they had a guy singing. He was great but packed up to leave at 6. I figured there would be someone else coming to play music but nope that was it for the night. I got some kind of margarita....the first drink was great but the second round came out completely different. For apps we got the chicken fingers and spinach artichoke dip which were both almost inedible. I got the pulled pork for my entree and it was pretty sundried....like the made it days ago and just microwaved it to order. Needless to say we will not be back unless they make drastic changes!

At the restaurant now. My kids have settled I'm with the free popcorn and my husband with a beer. The meatball lollipops were tasty. However I have not seen one bus boy, there are several dirty tables. Two families have come and gone when they realized there weren't clean tables. They also don't have milk. What kinda of place with a kids menu doesn't have milk. I will not be coming back.

As mentioned upon 'check-in' the place itself is spectacular. The beer selection is better than good, including their Hoppy beer for ye hopheads. The menu looks run of the mill, all we had were the wings and sweet potato fries, which (according to the ladies) also were more than adequate. Giant beautiful TVs, the bank vault game room, the vaulted original cathedral ceiling and the memorabilia...there's a lot to like here. As a Sox fan though, I really just love what one of our favorite south side heroes has done with this place! 4-STARS if you are a Sox fan or just love cool old building renovations.

I thought abt my review and I think I over rated this place. After thinking abt it over the weekend, this place has absolutely no right to call themselves a brew house. Why? They don't brew their own beer, they have only 2 of their own beers to offer and they have the same exact beer on tap that u can find at any hole-in-the-wall pub in Chicago. They only have 10 taps, if that. Their liquor selection is bigger than their beer selection. To me, this is a big fail. This place should be called "Big Hurt grille and bar." Why? Because even their food selection is what they offer most of.

Food and service was spot on, with the exception of a rude table of smokers (Friday, August 28, 2015) who kept leaving to smoke and giving the waitress a hard time. Again, the loud rude table of trash within ear shot could have ruined the experience but the food and service redeemed itself. ..Melissa an awesome server!

Ok ... as I read over some of the other reviews, I'm wondering whether I went to the same place. Did get to compliment the staff to the manager while we were there and perhaps the staff wasn't as well trained when some of the other reviewers dined. Anyway, wife and I went in with the only expectation being we were going to have a good time. Our server was outstanding, helping us to choose between competing options, very friendly, personable and attentive (Renatta B we will definitely be back and ask for you) The artichoke dip was new to the menu and good, not great; the smoked wings on the other hand, GREAT. As were the barbecue Chicken salad and Cuban Sandwich. We've had the authentic version in South Beach so were a little skeptical about what BHB could do ... they nailed it. Beer selection is passable...but with so many place now having extensive selections of good micro brews, disappointed there weren't more local selections (they did have Revolution Anti0 Hero and Lagunitas ... and of course his own brew, but it's a brewhouse. Lots of televisions, the space is very nice, used to be a bank, would like to see how packed it gets on game days. Will definitely be back.

We finally made it here on Friday night after a long day traveling. We were some of the last of our friends (mostly big Sox fans) to try the Brewhouse, and many of the previous comments of our friends were negative or neutral. Thus, we were just expecting an Ok experience, and if we were lucky, a Frank sighting (weren't lucky on that front). The dining room is large and lovely. The ceiling is stunning, and I am glad they preserved it. The most impressive thing, though, was the friendliness of the servers. Everyone was smiling, friendly, and eager to make our visit pleasant. I was very surprised about this, as I had read previous reviews on yelp that said the service was not good. Thus, I decided to ask the manager (who checked on us three times!) what this was about and why or experience was so much better than the other yelp reviews. He stated that they had made some changes and were working hard to support and properly train the staff. Impressive. Most of the staff members were very young for a restaurant like this, but they were all happy and motivated. Great job to the management staff. The food was good. We loved the asian wings, cuban sandwich, and bbq chicken salad (amazing!). The only thing I did not like was the spinach and artichoke dip, which the server raved about. Maybe I got a bad serving, but it was way below average (comparing to bar settings in Chicago). The beer options on tap were impressive. I was very happy with my Revolution Anti-Hero, as this is my favorite beer. I think they are trying to push their house beer, which I am not a fan of, as they did not provide a beer list until we requested it. The server highlighted the house beers first and there were ads for them on the table. They should improve these beers.......but at least, we can order from the diverse draft options they offer from other breweries. Interestingly, the restaurant seemed to attract a variety of people: old and young, all races, Sox fans...... Anyone could feel comfortable here, and that is nice. We will return, and I hope the experience is equally as pleasant. And that I get to see Frank Thomas!!!!

Super expensive for the area , also food was okay / I ordered the ribs, they were dry and the fries with BBQ beans / beans were sloppy all over the plate . Drinks / I had Johny walker with coke $12 I don't mind paying but small glasses with a lot of ice / it was not worth the $12.00

Love it here! Staff is very friendly. The food is good, drinks are good, and you never know when the Big Hurt himself might be there! Last time I went, he came in and shook hands and posed for pictures with every customer before sitting down to eat with his family. He sat at a regular table just like anyone else, not off in some side room away from the crowd. The building used to be a bank, as evidenced by the vault that is still there. Inside they have live gaming and a couple tables. TVs all over so you can watch your favorite games. When you first walk in, there's a replica of his statue that is on display at the ballpark. There's also a display case with BHB merchandise, and another with Frank Thomas and hall of fame merchandise, all available for purchase. Inside the dining area they have free popcorn! I can't say enough about the staff and how friendly they are. Never had to wait for food or drinks. They make friendly conversation and make sure you're having a good time. I plan to come back here every chance I get and would recommend them to anyone!

Big Hurt Brewhouse was by far the worst experience I could have ever imagined. Me and my friend sat down by the bar, after a few minutes we were approached by the bartender that asked us if we knew what we're drinking. My friend ordered a vodka soda and I had asked for a Black Label on the rocks. After having three johnnies walkers, I glanced at the check before ordering another round. The amount blew my mind! 170.00 Dollars! I was convinced there had been a mistake. I waited for the bartender to come over and fix my bill. She comes by and tells me she has been pouring me Blue Label, rather then Black Label what I have originally asked for. I was charged $50 for each "drink". Drink consisted of ice to the top in a small glass. I asked to talk to the manager. The manager comes over and I explained to him what has happened: The bartender wants to charge me for drinks I have not ordered. His immediate response was, "So your not going to pay for your bill"? He was very aggressive and threatened to call the police if I did not pay for the incorrect bill. I highly suggest anyone that has been considering visiting Big Hurt Brewhouse to select an alternative location!!!!!!!

Very sharp looking establishment!! Used to be a bank and they managed to keep the old vault room which is pretty awesome!! This is a great place to go for great food and great service....you will NOT be disappointed. The staff and manager are both friendly and attentive!! By far the BEST bar/grill joint in the area!!

This place is great! Turning the bank into a bar was an awesome idea! Stopped by with a few friends to watch the games and now has become the spot in the neighborhood, not only for the games, but for good food and drinks. I thought the people were friendly, the inside nice and clean, and what they with vault was pretty cool also. Manager was courteous and attentive and seemed to have the place very well ran. Can't wait to try out the patio when it opens up. It's a must visit if you're in the area

This has to be the worst brew pub I have ever been in. I waited 10 minutes at the front desk to get a seat at the bar. The restaurant wasn't even that crowded. I was given a menu and told to seat myself. Apparently the hostess was busy helping two other people make cotton candy. Why does it take three people to work a cotton candy machine? Anyway, I was pleased with the beer selection, but disappointed that the brewhouse doesn't actually brew their own beer. They do have two house beers on tap but they are not brewed in house, if that makes any sense. They also have three sizes of beer, but no prices on their menu. My beer was served right away, and I was given a receipt to cash out. My server did ask when he brought my beer if I knew what I wanted to order, and I did not. I asked for a minute to look at the menu. 15 minutes later, he had walked past me 4 times without ever once asking me if I wanted to place my order. When he finally did return, I told him I had decided I wanted to leave. I gave him $10 to pay my $6.54 tab. He gave me $3 in change. I asked what happened to the rest of my change, and he told me that he doesn't have small coins. He said he could ask his manager for the change if I wanted. I told him I insisted. Normally I am a big tipper. I know that servers make crap and they live off of their tips. But this was unacceptable service. I left him 46 cents as a tip. To the management: Your hostess is there to seat guests. Period. I was tempted to walk away while waiting to be seated. If I'm allowed to seat myself, then you should have a sign that says I can seat myself. Prices on your beer menu would be awesome. If the hostess had told me that I wouldn't get good customer service at the bar I would have asked for a table. I like beer. And I live in the neighborhood. You lost a potential customer today. I will not be back and I will discourage others from going there.

I went to Big Hurt Brewhouse for my first time this past weekend and I will definitely be going back! Our waitress was very attentive and made great suggestions from the menu. The manager was on the floor checking in on tables and our food and drinks came out in a timely fashion. If you live around the area, I would highly recommend checking this place out. I know I will be going back!

Overall.... It's ok. Decent beer selection. Food prices way too over priced. $9 for 6 wings? Really? Cmon frank! Went on a Friday night, service was terrible. Hate to call her out but Renata was just really bad. Asked for something and Everytime came 20minutes later, Everytime I asked for a beer. Asked for bill same thing. I probably won't be back here for the food or service, just the beer.... at the bar. Nice atmosphere though.

Go to The Big Hurt Brewhouse for a drinks only to catch a game. The food is not that great! I gave them a second try after the opening day and it was not worth visiting when you are hungry. Its not tasty at al! They need a better menu.

My boyfriend and I have dined twice at Big Hurt Brewhouse and have had pleasant experiences during both visits. We were more than satisfied with our food on both occasions. Their burgers and sandwiches were very generous and tasty, and you could tell their french fries were fresh and hand cut. My boyfriend absolutely loved the barbecue pulled pork! Compliments to the chef! For dessert during our first visit, we had the brownie a la mode, and that was pretty standard. You can't go wrong with chocolate and ice cream! Tonight, we thoroughly enjoyed the red velvet cupcake, which was a huge stuffed cupcake and loaded with cream cheese frosting. We absolutely loved it. I didn't even have a second to take a picture of it because someone was very eager to dive in! I guess you'll have to experience it for yourself! The service was great during both visits; all staff members with whom we interacted were friendly and polite, and our servers attended to our needs and checked up on us periodically - just the right amount of times. Drinks were served quickly and food was served in a timely manner. The building itself is very clean, well-kept, and modern. It makes for a unique atmosphere as it is built in what used to be a bank, and they kept the vault area which has a few tables and houses some slot machines. The bar area was clean and inviting to the eye, as were the red and black decor and booths. They have tons of flat screens; for the sports enthusiasts, no matter where you sit you will have a good view. Be sure to take a look up above, too - the domed ceiling is not to be missed. It's a great spot for small or larger groups; the noise level is pretty average so you can comfortably carry on a conversation without any trouble hearing each other or the staff members/servers. Although some yelpers have shared their negative experiences, all I can say is that with any new business - especially a restaurant - management is probably working out some of the small kinks that other reviewers are complaining about. Any good restaurant needs to take their time to see what's working, what's not, and how to proceed from there. For us, everything was perfect, but for those who left feeling a little unsatisfied or disappointed, I'm sure with time the experience will only get better. Parking is now free. :)

Beautiful space. Our service was good, very friendly and attentive. The food was good - nothing spectacular, but certainly good. If they expand the menu that would make it even better. Would like to see some more variety in the appetizers. They do offer a veggie burger which is nice to see in a bar food venue. One note - you can just have one person order fries for their side and everyone can share them. The sides of fries are enormous. The've done a great job renovating the lovely ceiling from the old bank building, and the space is very open and bright. It would be a fantastic place to catch a game or just hang out. They also have a nice side room that I assume you can reserve in advance. We went on a Sunday evening, because kids eat free on Sundays. Yay! The grilled cheese on the kids' menu was really good - this might be the first time the kiddos have finished their whole sandwich. I do have to note, the wait staff do NOT wear the tight little red dresses as seen on the website. It's not a Hooters! LOL Not sure if that will be a disappointment or a relief to any of you... ;)

Came here with my gf this sunday afternoon after service and we r glad we did. We heard big hurts brewery was open and decided to try out the food and a little of the beer for the first time. Had a little doubt after reading a lot of negative reviews. But overall we had a pleasant experience. First of all the outside of building is beautiful, as we came into the lobby we were greeted by our hostess and a replica Frank Thomas statue just like at the cell. And to our surprise as we were walked in to our table we were also greeted by the hall of famer himself Frank Thomas. He was just hanging out at the bar watching the football games and greeting people and thanking them for coming in to his restaurant. That was soo cool!! It took a few minutes before someone came to take our order but it wasn't that long. My gf ordered the smoked half chicken and we made sure we told them to cook it well thru out especially after we saw the picture someone posted here of the chicken that was still bloody! I ordered the full slab baby back ribs so we can share and what ever was left over was to take home. Overall the food was delicious and well cooked, we didn't have any complaints. I suggest to give big hurt brewery a try. They should get better with time, they've only been about 3 weeks. And as a plus you might get a chance to meet and greet Big Frank!! FYI the staff told us frank thomas poses for pictures only and doesn't give out autographs at his restaurant.

After months of remodeling and renovating, the Brewhouse finally opened today. I have been following the progress of the business on Twitter and Instagram and the place looks really nice. Frank Thomas himself is even in the building today. Great addition to the Berwyn area!

So my visit was Dec 19, 2014 and I'm really hoping that they've worked out all the links since then. First I'd like to say that I live in Oak Park and passed this building so many times wishing someone would bring it back to its glory. So needless to say I was excited when I saw that someone finally had. Four of us met up with another couple. When we arrived the other couple was there and had already ordered drinks and food. When our server came around we ordered drinks and I was shocked when I saw my martini. It was the smallest martini glass I've ever seen and to make it worse it wasn't even filled to the top of this baby glass! I'm not a big drinker and I usually don't care about glass sizes to much but this glass was ridiclous. And it wasn't just my drink, my friends glass although a different drink and different glass it was also small and not full. The guys we were with had beer and they said it had a funny taste. We ordered another round hoping that this round would be different but they were the same. I asked the couple we met there about the food and they said it was just ok. We would have tried the food anyway but it was at least 90 degrees in there. I swear this is no exaggeration, my face was flushed and pink as if I just worked out. We asked a server to turn the heat down and he said it is hot in here and that he would ask. So he comes back and says the manager said that it's so hot because they had windows open somewhere else in the building and so the heat was kicking in to compensate and there was nothing they could do. It was way too hot to stay so we left. I hope this was because it was newly opened and they've worked out the issues.

Great place to grab good food and catch a game in the Berwyn area! Not to mention you might get to meet Big Frank Thomas himself. They have a great selection of beers to choose from, from domestics, to crafts, as well as Frank's own brew selection. Go with the 20oz poor for the best value (and if you're thirsty). I usually stay away from ordering large pours bc they usually come out watered-down. Haven't had that problem at the BHB. They also have an excellent food menu with a variety of menu items. There are plenty of TVs so you won't miss any action of whatever game is being played. Most recently I've been watching the Hawks and Bulls playoff runs and haven't been dissapointed. If you're curious, Big Hurt is definitely worth checking out!

People make the difference. Everyone at Big Hurt Brewhouse was an absolute pleasure. They worked promptly and everyone had a smile on their face. This is huge considering this is their 3rd day open for business. I enjoyed the food, the loaded fries were a lot different than what I expected. In a good way! Oh and it doesn't hurt that Big Hurt (Frank Thomas) was in himself today! As far as beer, several good beers on the list. Including some stuff by Revolution and Deschutes.

Awesome place! You can choose to be seated at a table or seat yourself at the bar. Food and drinks have never disappointed here! Patty Melt is a flavor explosion in your mouth. And the specialty cocktails are always tasty and refreshing. Just what you need after a long day at work or a relaxing afternoon on the weekend. Have come multiple times with friends and family, all who have come have had nothing but good things to say about it. TV's on every wall make it a great place to watch a game and the patio is a great place to relax after the game next to the fire pit. They sometimes even have live music on the patio. There really is something for everyone here. The waitstaff is friendly and accommodating. I never feel like I'm being neglected. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! If you don't try it, you really are missing out!

Orderd a margarita, not sure what i got, server took it away and apologized but bashed on the bartender saying she sucked. Everyone in my table got their food except for me ,waited about 7 mins to get my meal and when I cut open into the chicken it was bleeding . I understand the restaurant is new, but thats no excuse for the food quality. The place is very understaffed for their first week of opening , not a very good first impression. This restaurant is just like his baseball career... Shitty

Everything was Great! Went on a Saturday around 6 pm and it was beautiful out so we chose to sit on the patio. We were seated right away. Frank was there on the patio enjoying the music being played by Kyle Young. We ordered drinks and received them in less then five minutes. Our server was Gus and he was great! My friends ordered the spinach artichoke dip both said it was ok. Then they ordered the Sweet Asian wings, beer cheese soup, and a half slab of ribs. They said everything was really good! When we were leaving Frank started talking to us and we took a picture. It was an excellent night!

My boyfriend and I decided to try this place out because I'm a foodie and we're both big Sox fans. The building is beautiful! I can't wait to enjoy the outdoor patio when the weather is warmer. It's a large patio away from the street so you can enjoy your dinner and conversation without feeling like you're sitting in traffic. The interior is clean and spacious and the ceiling is maintained from when the building was, I believe an old bank. The bar is long and open - definitely a good place for a drink after work. We arrived around 6pm on a Friday night and there was no wait. We wanted a booth and were sat at a booth with the taps on the table. My boyfriend isn't a drinker so we didn't partake but I can definitely see how that would be a great happy hour spot. Our server was Renatta (sp?) and she was wonderful! Bubbly and friendly - also very knowledgeable. We didn't feel hovered on but she definitely made sure we were taken care of. She gave us the low down on the house beers and I decided on the house beer (I'm trying to find the info on their website but the beverage section 'can not be found'... work on that Big Hurt Brewhouse!) I really enjoyed it and at $6.50 for 20oz (And 5.4% alcohol) I was happy with the price. We ordered our meal and it came in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered the fish and chips, on Renatta's suggestion, and my boyfriend got a burger. Best. Burger. Ever. OMG. We talk about it almost daily. We're going back in a few weeks just for the burger. My fish was wonderful - and there was plenty of it! The fries were standard, nothing exciting - but nothing bad. We also got calamari and macaroni and cheese. I suggest to stay away from both. The calamari was chewy and the breading was falling off. I don't know if we just got a bad order or if it's always like that but we'll skip it next time. The macaroni and cheese tasted microwaved and lacked any specialty or flavor. Actually, Kraft Mac n Cheese would be better served here. I was expecting something creamy and possibly topped with a crunchy breadcrumb or cheesy topping but neither were to be found. All in all this was a successful trip and we'll definitely be visiting again. And ask for Renatta... she's awesome!

When I walked in the first thing I noticed was a fishy smell. Like a fish bowl. My husband didn't notice it at first so I ignored it. I wanted coffee but coffee machine was broken. Such a nice new place I don't know why they have a broken coffee machine. It was lunch time too. Maybe they should return cotton candy machine & buy a coffee maker. We ordered chili fries for an appetizer . The chili was old and burned we were so hungry we totally ate it all because sour cream & jalapeños coved it up the burned taste. Then every time the kitchen open we would get a whiff of nasty fish! We had all different kinds of flies harassing us while we ate. There was something surely rotten in that kitchen. yuck! It was an Saturday for crying out loud! They should bring their A game. Not to mention the waitresses were dress a bit sloppy. Cleavage out of control with the tightest camel toe yoga pants! We were in a high booth so boobs were not directly in my husbands face like people sitting in low tables. I'm sure the men won't mind but a little awkward for couples. If We wanted boob action we would go to Hooters. Anyways some cute uniforms for these girls will really add to the beautiful decor and keep the place tasteful. I would never go for lunch again! But might give it another chance for beer tasting and drinks... Only because I love Frank Thomas and the place is beautiful.

After reading all the reviews I was expecting this place to be subpar. I went this past Friday with a group of four and was immediately sat, greeted by our server, and told she would be back to put our drink order in. She was promptly back within a few minutes and we received our drinks in no time. We decided to put in our food as well knowing that it could take up to an hour. Our food came within less than 30 minutes and was delicious. I was happy with the serving size and was even able to take some home. The beer selection on tap is extensive and is well within price ranges that you would expect at any Chicago restaurant with the same options. So if you had a bad experience here I think it's worth going back and giving them another shot!

Came here twice (once last Saturday and also yesterday). The service isn't the greatest but the food is delicious and they have a great selection of beer. The first time we were there, Frank Thomas showed up and we got a picture with him. We will definitely be back!

If Frank Thomas played ball the way he runs this restaurant, he would never have made out of the minor leagues. Went last night with some friends who had a BOGO for appetizers and the place was pretty empty -- maybe 10-12 occupied tabled. Took forever to get our drink order, and when the food came we had to ask for silverware. And then, once the silverware came we had to ask for napkins. The staff was all busy chatting with one another and paying zero attention to the few patrons who were actually there. I wouldn't waste my time again. We left disappointed, went to Piasons and had a much better experience.

Visited for the first time last Sunday with friends for dinner and drinks. Our server was very nice, but too chatty. Service was seriously slow. There were no more than six tables occupied and it took over 20 minutes to get a beer. Every time we ordered one. The server would spend between 5 and 10 minutes at a table each time he checked in - sharing personal stories and witty commentary. Witty is good, but not when you can't keep up with six tables. Half of the food was really good (pulled pork mac & cheese - very yummy), but two burgers came out rare when we had ordered them well done. It took so long to get the attention of the server to have the burgers re-done that we didn't even bother. We stopped to speak with the manager on the way out to let him know about our disappointment - after all - this place is historical and such a cool idea, we really want it to succeed, but unfortunately, the manager was defensive and rude. He wasn't interested in hearing about our experience and he certainly isn't interested in hearing suggestions that would improve the restaurant. He said we were insulting his best server. Well, good luck then Big Hurt.

It's not every day that you get to have a juicy burger AND eat it next to 'The Big Hurt!' I was really impressed with their food and overall the service was great. BIG space with a BIG menu. I had the Double Prime Burger and it's by far my favorite burger ever!

Been here 4 times. I was super excited about the opening, but sadly after too many chances I'll never be back. Here are the highlights: - servers are SLOW. They take forever to acknowledge even your existence and once they do they disappear. -you'll notice that everyone sitting around you also looks annoyed waiting on food. - on average our wait time for our food (a party of 2) lasted over an hour! - food sucks. Seriously sucks. For the prices they charge it's a slap in the face. - fries with that? Try 5 or 6 fries. Every single time. Most recently I asked when ordering for a FEW extra fries since I know they skimp on them. I got my few extra fries and an $8 charge for it on my bill. -last visit a waitress spilled an ENTIRE tray of drinks on me. She walked away. Didn't even apologize. Then some other chick comes by a few minutes later with a few paper towels. Are you kidding me? - this place sucks. Rant over.

The atmosphere at the big hurt brew house is fantastic! All new, lined with red and white sox memorabilia. As we walked in Frank Thomas was sitting at the bar and said hello. He even agreed to a picture! Service was great, however, the food was just average. We started with the loaded fries; fries, pulled pork and giardiner. Pulled pork was great, however, the giardiner was tasteless. My sister had the burger for dinner, which was dry. My pulled pork was good and my husband seemed to enjoy his Cuban sandwich but again, just average. The two house beers, hob and honey girl, were delicious! Overall atmosphere was good but the food is subpar. Any white sox fan would enjoy going here, however, if you plan on coming for the food it's better to stay at home

Came here on Friday night 01/16/15 for the first time. My gf and I usually get together once a month to catch up with our busy lives and since she lives in the burbs and I live in the city, we usually agree to meet at a locale that's a 1/2 way point for the both of us. She picked this place. And it was early in the evening but due to the games going on, this place was packed. We found a table close to the bar and though it was dirty, grabbed a seat. The bus boy came and wiped our table down and we asked for drink menus, said he'd track down our server. Minutes went by and still no server or menu....our server finally arrives and mentions that he's tracking down a drink menu as they are scarce. Eventually we get a drink menu, and settle for the Signature Martini and the Tempo martini....both were outstanding. Our server, Kenny was very attentive and surely was not wrong when he said choosing the signature house martini would not disappoint. We didn't get to try the food as we were just there for drinks, but the drinks did not disappoint. The establishment is very big and spacious, the décor and ceiling is phenomenal. I will definitely be back. The manager and staff were very much attentive.

I really wanted to like this place. I live in Berwyn, and the idea of getting a top-notch brewhouse nearby appealed to me. Even more so considering I'm a life lifelong White Sox and Frank Thomas aka "The Big Hurt" fan. No other player from my childhood means more to me than Frank Thomas. Add to that the fact that the restaurant and bar are situated in a fully restored and beautiful piece of architecture, and I went in with high hopes! Sadly, almost immediately, my expectations were quashed. It took our server nearly fifteen minutes to stop by our low top table and take our drink orders. We were handed menus by the hostess on our way in, but they didn't include a beer list. We asked our server for a beer list and he said they don't have one. How can you not have a beer list at a place with BREWHOUSE in the name? He said they'd recently ordered new ones because the old ones were messed up. Okay. I guess I can understand that. To his credit, our server did have a working knowledge of the three "BHB" specialty brews as well as the other drafts on tap. We ordered our beer, an appetizer, and our main entrees. Then the waiting began. Ten minutes later we got our drinks. This was on a weeknight with a half-full dining room. Another ten minutes later we received our appetizer. Except it wasn't what we ordered. Okay--mistakes happen, right? We asked for the right appetizer and they did get it out to us pretty quickly, maybe five minutes later. Then our main entrees arrived. I ordered the two-patty BHB burger, my wife the mushroom risotto. Neither were that great. My burger came with the standard burger trimmings: lettuce, tomato, and a pickle spear. No onions, but that's fine, i don't eat onions anyway. The lettuce was wilted, and the tomato looked like it had been cut days ago and had pretty much turned to mush. Not what I expect from a $15.00 burger. The meat itself was at the proper doneness and was reasonably good in terms of flavor. The bun felt stale and wasn't properly roasted to stop it from soaking up the meat juice. Basically the meat was fine, but everything else screamed "cheap, low quality burger masquerading as a signature burger." I was NOT impressed. I've had better burgers at Five Guys. Really I have. The risotto wasn't great either. The rice wasn't cooked properly, resulting in a chewy, unpleasant experience. Risotto is a tough dish, and I can't imagine how a bar and grill plans to pull it off night after night without high quality cooks, which they obviously don't have if they're willing to send out produce on a burger that's past its prime. No attention to detail here. None whatsoever. The french fries were good. Really good actually. But it's not hard to serve good fries. My overall perspective on the place is as follows: Service: trying hard but slow Food: Average to poor Atmosphere: Good, if you don't mind the massive interior space / echoes Overall: Not a place I'd go back to We actually decided to cap it off at one drink each and ditched BHB to go finish our night at Fat Duck in Forest Park where we each had several more drinks. So BHB lost us as future customers and lost out on what could have been a much larger tab as well. Assuming that the management of BHB reads these reviews: Get some control over your kitchen. Expect better than what they're turning out. Get a freakin' beer list! Come on, you're a BREWHOUSE for crying out loud!

My wife and I were excited that this place had just opened. I have been eagerly anticipating its opening since work began. In Berwyn, the restaurant is housed in an old bank building. It has the genesis for being an awesome space. The old vault was left in and the high ceiling is beautiful. The bar area was appealing and there are nice red and black booths. The tables aren't too crowded and the noise level was fine. There is something missing though. It could have been really spectacular and it was okay. It is not a brewery but there are three Big Hurt beers on tap. I had the Hoppy Girl and it was fine. Nice hops but a little bland. Very drinkable though. We also tried the honey weiss called Honeygirl. It was sweet but there was a stale aftertaste. I probably wouldn't order that again. For food we split a kale and beet salad that was okay. It was lacking a little bright flavor. It had goat cheese and walnuts but it was missing tomatoes or some freshness. I had the fish tacos made with cobia. Again, just okay. It was missing the brightness of a good beach taco. Overall it was okay. The service was unremarkable and slow too. I really wanted to be wow ed and I hope they can fine tune the menu and service to make this place stand out. One final note, I am a diehard Indians fan but I have much respect for Frank Thomas. The fact that he was in the restaurant, talking to everyone and taking pictures was by far the coolest thing of the night. I hope the restaurant improves to live up to his great reputation as a community icon.

I went for the first time yesterday-I have to say I would give 5 stars for the decor and atmosphere. Our waitress is very nice and sweet. The only negative would be that she gave us our check without asking if we wanted anything else (ie dessert). Now the food-it was okay. We had the meatball lollipops and they were very good. I had the double prime burger with swiss/mushrooms. I have to say, although it was good in flavor, it was a tad bit salty. The side order of mac and cheese was horrible. The box mac & cheese is tastier. The only thing I would give 4 stars to is the sweet potato fries. I took home a red velvet cupcake that was huge but unfortunately it was deceiving because in the center of it was a huge wad of creme that truly destroyed it. O well-I was expecting a better food experience. I bet its a great place to watch games and have a few drinks though!

I'm so excited that I finally got to go!! Was a little confused with the drinks! Oh yay that's because there nothing to look at menu wise. The girl was nice that served us but didn't really have info for us. As to what she would recommend or what people like here she seem to be clueless.when they brought me my meal it literally had hair on it I had to send the back. Yeah not good!! I would like to try it again however not soon!

I've been waiting for this place to open so I could check it out. I asked my husband to go with me tonight and we were both really disappointed. He thought all the food we tried was awful (yeah, me too--pretty greasy and tasteless overall) and for me, since I'm not a sports fan, I hated trying to eat while surrounded by 10 TVs and the ear-splitting blare of the game they had on. You cannot look up in the dining area without a TV in your line of sight. I also couldn't hear my husband unless I was sitting RIGHT next to him in our booth. I was interested to see how they'd use the interior of the old bank that was once in this building, but I don't think the decor works with the setting. The beautiful gilded dome from the bank's ceiling looks really odd over the dining room and the old bank vault looked like it had video games or slot machines in it. Just didn't mesh with the look of the place at all. Our server was nice and attentive, and commented that she was sorry we didn't like our food, but then kind of shrugged and wandered off. They will give free samples of their house beers, so that's nice. They also have Revolution Brewery beers, so that's a plus, too. Overall, we wouldn't go back.

It's very beautiful inside I enjoyed the history behind the place. Unfortunately the young lady at the bar lacked barside manners and service. We were constantly rushed, and Brenda couldn't make a mix drink. The big hurt needs help. They are more than staffed but the quality of service seems to be an issue. Besides staying to watch sunday football, drinking my terrible pour of dogfish (half was foam) and eating my poor excuse for jerk chicken, all and all I say the staff needs to be ready for crowds bigger than five, Very disappointing.

well what can i say I'm disappointed. We arrived and it was near empty and we ordered right away an appetizer and our meal. Our appetizer was forgotten never came until I asked the waitress, she said they had a new chef, I don't understand how that excuses her forgetting that we ordered it. The food was ok, steak was nothing special. Service for not being busy was crap I'd hate to see this place full. I'm never going back If service is like this normally I don't think they will last much longer.

We went here last week. We tried the meatball Lollipops, very tasty. I asked what other drinks they had and got a verbal presentation, so I tried something called a Sipper. It was like drinking a SweetTart, you definitely could only sip this drink. Entrees were good, I ordered sweet potatoe fries and got Mac & cheese instead? Don't get me wrong, the mac & cheese, may have been better than my original order, but servers had to come back to our table to ask about one of my companions orders, so she could have asked, if she didn't understand my order. We will probably be back, but I will definitely be more clear on what I am ordering and what I receive.

Service took forever and food took even longer and to top it off they got our drinks and food wrong. When we did get the food my friends chicken was rare (still bleeding to be exact) food wasn't bad but service absolutely sucked. Worst beer selection for a brew house I've ever seen. Don't see this place being open too long.

Being a White Sox Fan, a Frank Thomas Fan (even wore his shoes back in the day), and a beer fan, my wife and I went there for lunch and brought along our 4 month old. Place is nice and I love how the keep the vault and domed ceiling. The beer was pretty good, I opted for the Pilsner and my wife, the wheat. The wheat was kind of flat if I had to be honest, but still had nice color and flavor, the Pilsner was perfect. For the main course, a Bison burger for myself and my wife went with the Chicken Tender Wrap. The waiter suggested that I order the burger medium if I wanted it well done because Bison tends to get dry. Acting on his advise that's what I did and if was fantastic, hot and juicy. The Chicken wrap looked good but according to my wife didn't really have much of a taste. For sides we both went with the fries. They were good..okay...acceptable, but I was expecting more. Perhaps a little truffle oil, or sweet potato fries. I mean, they were cooked to perfection, but lacked something. I know they just opened up and menus will evolve and change. So if you guys are reading this......Truffle Fries and Sweet Potato Fries Please. Desert, we split a Red Velvet Cupcake.... YES! Get One!! I will keep going back for the beers and to try the different menu items. Did I mention that Frank Thomas was there as well? Cause he was, walking around, talking with people, very nice. And service was great. See ya next time Frank.

While we didn't see The Big Hurt there, we did put a "big hurt" into our appetites. I had the burger and my wife had the patty melt. Both were very good. I added a couple of Big Hurt pilsners and the night was complete. We will definitely come back.

Bottom line is the food is good, but by the time you put up with the TERRIBLE service it won't even matter. My table visited the resturant AFTER the Bulls game in the hopes it wouldn't be as crowded, and it wasn't crazy inside but it still took over 20 minutes for our table to get greeted by a server. It also took 20 minutes to bring out 3 beers and 2 simple mixes drinks. Don't they know that a table is going to spend more money if the drinks keep flowing? I should have known there was going to be a problem when the bartender asked if Jack Daniels was a whiskey. To top it off, we were told by our server that the kitchen closed at midnight. Wrong information! We ordered food at 11:30 and after 15 minutes the server came back and told us the kitchen was closed. It took 15 minutes to discover that? The management tried and offered to buy the table a round of drinks. Nice gesture, but it wasn't going to fill the hungry bellies of my friends.

Went to get our tire fixed at just tires. The service guy suggested Big Hurts Brewhouse. We arrive the friendly host asked where we wanted to sit very nice and friendly. We arrive and our waitress provides us with a menu. We get the double patty burger with Texas toast. It was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! I only had half because I was so full. I ordered the honey girl beer and it was delicious. To top it off we met Frank Thomas!!!!! Will return again!! Great service, great food, great atmosphere.

The first time we tried this place, the manager had to take my husband's burger off the bill b/c it should have never left the kitchen. Someone should be over-looking what the kitchen puts out but it seemed no one there cared. The last(and final) time we went was a complete joke. We went for a fundraiser that had about 400 people shoved into the place. On the way in, we walked through a barely plowed parking lot that had slush a half a foot high. I've lived here my whole life. Im used to snow. But when I paid $75 per ticket, the least they could do was PLOW THE PARKING LOT. It hadnt snowed for 2 days. Not to mention, we had to park a block away, and risk getting a ticket b/c out of towners arent allowed to park on the streets of Berwyn ANYWHERE. Once we made it in, the place was packed, which was expected. We waited about 10 mins by the bar to get a drink. Since there were only 3 bartenders serving the whole place (the bar and servers that were also putting in orders), we gave up and went to get some food in the back vault. After waiting in line there, we get to the food and half the plates are empty. There were 2 plates of mini meatballs, 2 plates chicken wings, mini burgers that were basically a bun, and flatbread. Keep in mind, there are about 400 people here, and they had plates the size of the ones you would get if you ordered at a single table. They did keep bringing out more food but they should've had catering trays to accommodate all the people. It was quite humorous watching all the people walking away with buffet piled plates bc the food they served was of no substance. I dont blame them after paying $75 per person. After we finished our meatball and piece of flatbread, we had to wave an employee down to take the plates bc there was nowhere to put them. Once the guy took our plates, we asked if we could order a drink from him. After ordering a beer, we waited by the bar for it. After 10 mins of waiting, i saw the manager standing next to us behind the bar, and asked about our drink. He asked who we ordered from, then said he'll be right with us. Thanks for your help. USELESS MANAGEMENT. 5 mins later the guy came back, we reminded him we've been waiting, he went behind the bar, poured the beer, and brought back a mug HALF FULL. But the icing on the cake was when we noticed the bartender pulling the bottle opener OUT OF HER SOCK to open bottles. (the manager was right next to us, so obviously it must be common practice there). The service is horrible, the food is subpar, and the management thinks he's too good to help out when the fellow employees are going down in smoke. Furthermore, I would never recommend throwing a party here cause they have NO CLUE how to accommodate. We will never go to this joke of a place...and next time Berwyn wants to throw a party...PAISANS is the place to go.

We ate their with a group of 10 on a Friday night. Host and servers were very friendly. we were a little disappointed of the lack of white sox items from his playing years. Server brought our drinks quickly and frequently. Food was ok we all ordered a little of everything from chicken sandwich to salmon to ribs. Prices are reasonable. The vault is pretty interesting, they have tables and slot machines inside there. Will eat there again.

Amazing food, the fish and chips were the best I've ever had! The creamed corn was a surprise to see on the menu but extremely delicious. The beer was cold and refreshing and we got to see the Big Hurt!

Joined Yelp finally so I can write a review about how bad this place is (really not a negative person and love the many Yelp suggestions I've read - I'll post some positive ones I promise). I really wanted to like it. Big Sox fan, my kids grew up watching Frank Thomas at Sox Park. Deserves the Hall for sure but not this. Arrived early for a 7:00 Sat Reservation. Was seated right away! Waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged. I asked for a beer menu. Turns out this is a mysterious beast here and only 1 exists in all of the land. Waitress has no idea what beers they offer (at a Brewhouse) and says they have all the "regular" beer. Anyway, I spot Anti-Hero and order, the others in my party of 5 order cocktails or beer. Beer comes out flat and wine glasses have crusty dirt on them. All is forgivable at this point. We order food and wait 45 minutes.....nothing. We ask the manager who comps our food bill 25% (nice but would rather have my food on time) and tells us everything will arrive shortly. Another 15 minutes and still nothing. Now the restaurant wasn't that crowded. Maybe 2/3 full. I have a show to attend so we walk. I pay the bar tab and tipped the waitress (she tried hard but was poorly trained). The aggravating thing was the manager didn't really care at all. He just stood there and watched while table after table was ignored and food came out of the kitchen slowly. He also didn't care that we walked. Would never go back!!

Three strikes and you're out. Awesome atmosphere and a ton of potential. However, very small portions and horrible service means we'll not be back. It's clear the staff have no desire to provide decent service. There were more staff than people in the place, and we had to wait over 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive (they were on the bar for 5 of those minutes while the staff chatted with one another). No silverware on the table when we got there and had to ask for it after our appetizers finally arrived. The chicken tenders were very small. We left and went to have the rest of our meal elsewhere. Ugh!

Wow Nice place ,but the service was sooo BAD.I do not understand how the management is so blind to how bad the service is.We asked our Server six times what the soup was?It took her a hour to find out.And another 20 min to bring me a Miller lite in tap.WTF IS GOING ON HERE?i can not see this place staying open very Long . Just because the owner is a in the HOF DOSE NOT MEAN U CAN LIVE OFF YOUR NAME ALONE.WAKE UP FRANK THOMAS.YOU HAVE A REALLY NICE PLACE BUT YOUR STAFF SUCKS.

The food was pretty good I had the bison burger. But they might need to update the menu it's kinda plain and ordinary for such a nice place. I've been there a few times but never had good service and was questioning ever returning. I decided to give them another shot. The server Gus knew the menu and was very friendly. He made me and my friend a few recommendations which I appreciate because of my past experiences. Definitely coming back. Only when Gus works though. If not I'll go to Guadalajara's across the street. They have micheladas

Stopped in for dinner tonight so we could check out the new restaurant. I've wanted to see inside that old bank building for years! The place looks great and is very roomy with a reasonable noise level. Lots of TVs to see the games but they are all kind of far from the booths where we sat. The other downside of the booths is that the cold was coming right through the windows and we felt it right on our backs. The old vault is a video gaming room which is pretty cool. The beer selection is good, but not exhaustive. The signature beers were available and I had the Pilsner, which was very good. I usually don't drink a lot of golden beers, but this was worth he order--$6 for a pint. The wait staff is still learning their jobs, but they were very friendly and helpful, if not a little disorganized. There were a lot of workers standing around, but maybe they will be busy as the night goes on and there are more customers. I guess they need to figure out what the meal rushes will look like. I had the Cuban sandwich and the wife had a burger. Both were very good. My fries were over done, but I like a little burnt potato. On my wife's burger, the kitchen got the order wrong...twice. It was still very good tasting beef. They have a very complete menu ranging from a nice collection of appetizers to a $45 strip steak (kind of steep for the area). Lots to choose from in any case. Good portions, too. On the plus side, my wife mentioned to the manager that they got the burger wrong and he immediately took our check and comped the burger. We told him it wasn't necessary, but he said that hey have to learn to get it right the first time. I really appreciate that kind of customer service. Bottom line is that we had a good beer and good food and love that this place in here in Berwyn. We will definitely go back and try another item on the menu.

My fiancé and I were so excited to finally go to the Big Hurt but were disappointed with the service. The food was fairly decent; we ordered the pot roast fries and meatball lollipops. The meatballs were not warm when they got to the table & we had to ask for water 3 times before getting refills. We also asked to see a drink menu but our waitress informed us that there were only a few on hand, and she did not return with one. Overall I'm glad that we went to experience the fun new restaurant in Berwyn but was disappointed with the cuisine and service.

Big disappointment. Took out of town family, service was one of the worst we've ever had. The food was nothing to write home about, one of our plates contained baked beans and they were uncooked. I would not recommend it nor would I ever go back.

Sorry Frank, but everything about this place sucks. The two Big Hurt Beers available, described as either 'similar to Blue Moon' or 'similar to 'Coors Light', are both worse that the macro beers they are trying to emulate. Except these were $6 drafts. The ambience is non-existant. Outside of the entrance, there is almost no memorabilia, just blank walls and tvs. We were there on a Sunday during a Hawks game, yet they were playing some clubby techno music. Service is slow and dumb. Getting a refilled beer in an empty restaurant would take 10-15 minutes. The busboy was paralyzed trying to determine where to put coasters, which plates to take (hint: the empty ones), who needed more water (hint: if everyone has a glass, no one), so everytime he arrived, we had to give him orders to so he would stop staring at us. The food sucks. Horrible calamari, a burger that doesn't come with any condiments and only 6 or 7 fries on the side. The food took about 45 minutes to arrive, despite being there at 1:00 pm on a Sunday w/only a handful of other patrons. Plus, its pricey. Hopefully Frank can take more active ownership and turn it around, but more likely this will be another example of how athletes should never in invest in restaurants.

Despite all the poor reviews, we tried it anyway and the reviews are true. This was BAD!! We had four of us sitting in the "vault" and the service started out well but quickly deteriorated. Beers started taking 10-15 minutes to be delivered. The food--4 sandwiches---took 37 minutes to get to us. And when it did, it was cold. Not sure how service could be so bad with only 7 tables in the place. When we complained to the server, we got an "oh, sorry" and then disappeared. We waited to see if a manager would stop by but he was busy, we watched him be busy for over an hour flirting with the young hostess up front. Never walked the floor once in the 3 hours we were there to talk to a customer. The server finally came back with our $140 check--- 8 beers, 4 sandwiches and 2 appetizers ---there are better deals nearby. We will not be back or suggest it to anyone else. We have one question, When it closes down, do you think they will auction off the replica Frank Thomas statue??

I so wanted to like this place. It was almost empty, so the service was good, friendly, waiter. ok decor, Good beer (but only ONE beer/drink list, he had to get it from each table to give to the next-- COME ON!! ) Food is very important and it was NOT good-- meat was old on both orders, ribs dry, mashed potatoes were fake (instant)-- poorly spiced and NO salt and pepper on the table. If they want to stick around, they had better get a GOOD cook and fresh food, even if it means cutting down the menu. NEVER EVER serve OLD food!!

Yes, Frank did come in last Sat nite when the 10 of us went there. He was friendly, patient and accomodating, unlike his food. Yeesh, C'mon Frank, I could have gotten a better burger at Appelbys. "Fresh Cut" fries? yea at the factory. and 9 out of the 10 of us got the burgers and they all tasted like they were frozen, all well done and dry and been sitting around for a couple hours. They've been open long enough to get it right, but didnt and are only living off his name. I cant see that place being around through next year.

NEVER GO TO Big Hurt Brewery In Berwyn!!! absolutely worst place ever! I was so looking forward to this place really doing well here. Went in because a friend heard a rumor they were open already. Didn't even bother checking yep until after I had my first bad experience. First, the hostesses told us it'd be 15-20 min, ok, but waited almost 30 because they had a group of guys they were flirting with that were seated first! The lobby area is awkward and hostess has to carry around a very awkward old school yellow notebook instead of investing in a nice restaurant system. The moment we were seated our waitress asked what we wanted to drink, um we just sat down? So she gives us almost 10 minutes before asking what we would like to drink. I asked for their HOF beer, and they were completely out! Really you're a brewery distributing your own beer and you don't even have enough to sell your customers? Food was below average, burgers had no flavor, chicken wings were small and sauce tasted store bought only good thing to say is the wood smoked flavor was good but that cannot be the only flavor you rely on. Restaurant decor was off, awesome flat screens nice booths, but cheap commercial loud carpet, they were shoving family's of 3 on Teenie tiny tables (that were even too small for my hubby and I), dj stunk and for a brewery, there was a poor selection of beer and Frank Thompsons signature beer was sold out really? Really? Manager didn't care to hear about their incorrectly cooked food orders, lipstick on hubbies cup (I had none on and unless hubby is hiding something...???), I actually mentioned the horrible yelp reviews to the manager (which were all true....my problem was that I didn't read them until my first problem I had) his response was yes our staff wasn't properly trained and we're sort staffed, but never once apologized!! Yes he comp'd our dinner but he wasn't even sincere, he didn't even say anything he rudely left and disappeared. Before disappearing I told him I was done eating (only ate 2 bites) I'm not eating anymore and to wrap it, he took my food and never returned! When I asked our waitress about my food I was planning on paying for since the manager never once mentioned he was going to discount or comp our food, he comes back saying "oh I thought you said you were done with your food?" I said "yes I was but I also said to please wrap my food I want it all to go" he walked rushing off after I finally said "you know what I want it off our bill".... The waitress returned 5 minutes later saying "the manager comp'd your entire bill. Definitely can't even pay me to eat there ever again! We ended up picking up beer and fast food since it was already so late at night. Horrible horrible place! BE WARNED! 0 STARS If I could

A great place with awesome staff and a great menu. We have been there for both lunch and dinner and absolutely love it! We also are excited to see what specials they offer throughout the baseball season! And just for an added bonus, you just might see The Big Hurt, Frank Thomas, himself there! Can't wait to return!

The location is great, unfortunately inside the building it may seem a little dull, the music did not match the atmosphere set by theme of this place. The food was good but overpriced. I recommend the Mac & Cheese Fries.

Second time a charm! Friday night was my second time dining at the Big Hurt and I have to say my first time it was a few weeks after they opened and like most new places they needed to work the kinks out with the servers although the food was good my first visit it is so so so much better and the management has the staff on the ball so I think they deserve a big hand and I want to recommend that anyone who was here before and had a bad experience definitely give it another try! I'm glad I did and me and my friends will be back!! Glad the patio is open I can see its going to be a lot of fun this summer. Also I tried the Big Hurt beer and if you like beer give it a try you won't be disappointed. PS. try the double patty melt it is awesome and one of the best I ever had. The menu is priced reasonably but needs a bigger selection of salad dressings. On a final note my friends enjoyed the place and we're happy with Their food choices too!!! I think the 5 stars are well deserved. Hopefully next time I will get to meet Frank Thomas.

This place is doomed. Usually when I go to a place I don't like I can see why it might just be my taste that don't agree. That is not the case with this place. The service is downright awful from the minute you walk in. The hostess was unfriendly and offered no help, the directions on where we could sit were cloudy and the bartenders had no idea how to work the cash registers or the beers they had on tap (I had to point to a tapper after the bartender insisted they didn't carry that kind of beer). Everyone working at the place seemed lost. Now, I only had to point to a more know brand of beer after I couldn't finish my "house special" bottle I ordered as my first drink. I'm a beer guy in the sense that many of my traveling is to renowned breweries around the country. That stated, I know home brewers with brewing kits from Target who have produced better tasting beers. The bottle of the house beer I had was flat. Simply terrible. I can't speak on the food, I was only in for a friday happy hour. I don't see how this place will stay open.

I went to BHB tonight for the first time and I gotta say that even though my main course didn't blow me away I still had a wonderful dining experience. My waiter, Rafael, was knowledgable about the food and he even knew the tapped beers that weren't on the menu. Good kid, def took good care of us. As far as the food goes I really enjoyed my appetizer, the loaded BHB fries, loved the idea of pulled poke on fries and they totally pulled it off. I was however let down by my main course which was the St.Louis ribs. They were dry and the sauce was missing some tanginess. I was also told that the bison burger was a bit of a let down, lots of meat but no flavor. Thankfully desert was a delicious cheese cake with caramel that ended dinner on a better note. Of course as a brewhouse they of course had a great selection of beers. Every single one on the craft list is on point. Sadly for me the house beers were nothing special, a bit bland for my taste. My opinion is to stick to the tap. Even though I gave it three stars I'm being nice, it's more like 2 1/2, it got bumped up to three because the Big Hurt himself was there tonight. I greatly respect owners that promote their place, and plus it's Frank Thomas the man is a Sox legend. So the question is would I got back? For appetizers and beer yes.

I have been wanting to stop in since the Brewhouse opened. I sat at one of the high top tables near the bar and felt that the transformation from bank to pub was done very well. The open vault door leading to the gaming and the beautiful domed ceiling, and the large ornate windows added charm to the simply stated baseball theme. The menu is trendy and slightly overpriced for a sandwich and fries. I had ribs, mac and cheese and loaded baked potatoes. The ribs were good but the loaded baked potatoes were the best I've ever had. My waitress was pleasant, it didn't take long for my order to come out and the presentation was well done. I enjoyed my experience and felt slightly guilty being there. What was a nice Cubs fan like me doing in a place like this.

My husband and I went to have dinner there for the fist time. We went in with an open mind after reading some reviews from yelp. It was about 5:45 pm when we got in. Cons: First thing, they don't have a drink menu, which was strange to me. I believe it was understaffed because it took over 15 minutes to get another round of drinks. Their fish tacos sucked big time. They overcharged us!!!! Pros: good burgers! Clean bathrooms. We would only go back for drinks and appetizers.

I've been back a few times since my first visit in November and the service has not improved. It's still a cool place to go to and watch a Sox game and the beer cheese soup is great! But the service makes me not want to return. Stop hiring your waitstaff based off of looks.

What a totally unique and inviting setting for a sports bar. The inside of the long ago bank building is truly spectacular, and it is hard not to keep looking up, but there are plenty of large screen TV's at the dining level for viewing as well. The setting is cavernous and cozy all at the same time. The food was tasty and the service was attentive, including a visit from the bartender to see if a martini ordered by one of us was to the guest's liking - it was. Nice touch! The double hamburgers were cooked exactly as ordered and made with obviously quality beef. My Italian flatbread was delicious and well spiced. First time there - and will not be the last! JB

Came in on Friday 11/14 night with a friend. We were seated at a narrow table for two in between booth seating and table seating for 6. Kind of an awkward seating arrangement for those stuck in the middle. We ordered the Chipotle wings which were very spicy but tasty. Our server didn't really know the menu as he recommended them to be the least spicy (my friend can't handle spicy food) and service was slow and non apologetic when I got the wrong entree. I'm very sorry to say the overall experience was disappointing. Food and beer wasn't anything special. When we finally did get our entrees it was room temp. :/

I decided to check this place out not because of who the founder / investor is but because it is new and has had some decent publicity. Not a baseball fan and even if I were it would certainly not be for the White Sox - sorry, just a North-sider true and blue. Easy drive from the west loop got us there in 15 minutes flat. I am learning that Berwyn is pretty convenient to everything. The place looks impressive from the outside, with plenty of parking in the lot. It was free, So I am not sure who paid $3 in the other review .... There is a huge lobby area, which is sort of a waste of space but I can only speculate they are anticipating big crowds on the weekends so I guess it will full-fill its purpose.. The place has like 200 foot ceilings but has an odd feel to it when you get past the lobby. There are massive LOUD, and I mean LOUD flat screens on every wall , I counted 9...so yes, it is a sports bar ( I think ) for this reason alone. The whole space has this cheap looking commercial carpeting - really?? there was no budget in this million dollar makeover to put in wood floors, or concrete,? something less dated than carpet??? The place sorta feels like an off-track betting parlour, I don't know...and whats with the video gambling machines or whatever they are in the vault? Wouldn't it be cool to have a select beer tasting room instead of these cheesy machines? .Aside from that the dome ceiling and walls are quite nice. The tiny table and really, really uncomfortable goofy looking chairs were annoying enough for me to ask to be moved. By the way the staff is perfect, at least when I was there. Very attentive, friendly, and well informed of the menu so a round of applause to Maria who went out of her way for me :-) Not a beer drinker so I came for the food. Nice american inspired menu. meatball lollipops were very nice, with a very rich and robust marinara. thoughtful presentation. Burger: I was happy! prepared exactly the way I wanted it: rare, with extra cheese. I went for the bbq fries with pulled pork - meh, good, but not smokey... But I can live with that as this is NOT a BBQ house. Free refills on the pop- I like. 3 people stopped by to ask if everything was okay - I like! There seems to be something missing - BEER! ALE! STOUT! for god 's sake bring it in! is the name says '' brewhouse'' so, bring in brews! , it costs nothing to store the stuff in a place this size. It was so weird, one page of common beers and a few household name imports and the beer page is buried in the middle of this really stupid binder that does not stay open unless you like tear it or mash it.... Like I said, I am not a drinker, but I wont be taking my fine ale friends here as there is nothing to get excited about for them. I did not see anything from Revolution Brewing as a previous review pointed out, so not sure where that was presented. I think this would have been a better plan as a REAL brewhouse, rather than a sports bar. verdict: good food, but it just feels awkward in there. Nothing cool, or ''brewhouse feeling'' to it, ya know? Bring in more brews, lose a few of the TV's, and make it a brewhouse, or your place will not survive. And get a new interior designer. 3 stars is quite generous, and I must be drunk.... If it were not for the good service, I would have handed out only 2.

I have been here twice and both times I left my head scratching to why the reviews are so low! The food is great! Beer is solid! Plenty of tv's which makes a perfect sports bar atmosphere. Also, I have read negative reviews about the waitstaff and again, I have experienced the opposite. In both occasions, the servers were very friendly, engaging, and quick! I am going to continue to drive in from downtown to visit this little gem in Berwyn.

We only tried the apps and the beer, so this review is pretty limited. We tried the Asian wings and the smothered nachos. I expected more from the wings, I felt they didn't have enough flavor considering they described as being (either smoked or grilled, I don't remember which). The nachos come covered with pulled pork and giardinera peppers. These I liked and would order again. I liked the Big Hurt Honey Girl beer. The place is very loud, but it's a sports bar and it was Sunday night football with the Bears playing, so it's what I expected. The service was excellent, our server (don't remember her name) came by every few minutes asking if everything was alright. Impressive since it was a crowded night. I plan on going again and trying the burgers which looked excellent at another table. I'll update my review then.

Big hurts delivered a hall of fame experience. Service was very friendly, big hurt took a great picture with my husband and newborn. Started the meal with Mac n cheese fries, very good. Mushroom risotto was delicious. Rest of table had burgers which were juicy and delicious. Beer selection was great, make sure to ask for samples before you select your pint. Had the brownie ala mode for dessert which was a good nightcap. Overall, great experience, good food at reasonable prices. Big hurt did sign so make sure you bring your item and pen, he was great to meet and very generous with his time. Big hurts definitely exceeded my expectations, Hall of Fame experience

Atmosphere nice, glad they kept original bank ceiling. Expansive restaurant w plenty of TV's to watch your favorite game however space so big, acoustics bounce off the walls (might be better when there are more people in the building), wasn't sure which game had the sound up. Food - just OK, pricey, $9 for a basic hamburger (huge bun). Daughter had chicken sandwich ($11), she thought it was decent; $3 for a soda (ridiculous!) Appetizer - BBQ mac & cheese lacked flavor - thankfully the BBQ sauce provided something. If you have leftovers - reheat in oven. No liquor menu available that day - server told us items were being added/removed as she pointed to the bar - but there a lot of beers on tap.... Service - slow & it wasn't busy. Our server seemed more concerned about her appearance than anything else. The wait staff was very helpful, he would have made a better server - something to think about. The draw - Frank Thomas. On a Sat. afternoon, surprised there were a lot of open seats. Parking free although there was a sign (knocked over) $3 to park - do not pay to park & eat in this establishment. For the town of Berwyn, Frank & investors, I hope food/service picks up & they work out the kinks however if it continues the way it was on Sat., I can't see the place being around for years to come which would be unfortunate.

First time here.. Plus plenty of free parking and no wait . That where it ended. Our server took our beer order, then returned telling us the house brew was unavailable, for two days. Imagine the specialty beer, not in Stock. We then ordered food which at 35 minutes did not arrive. When we asked how the chicken sandwich was prepared the server didn't know. Asked what type of bread, she responded, white bread. That could leave the impression, wonder bread. hint... Inform servers of food preparations. But were offered food for other tables several times. Apparently the servers lost track of the orders. When we got up to leave the manager inquired about our experience, which was nice of him. He apologized. He provided his card, for what purpose I don't know. Sorry, but can't compare to a, Hooter for service and server hospitality. The interior is boring, four walls, tables and televisions.. This is a first for me, I have written this place off.

I have been here multiple times with friends and family. We have enjoyed ourselves every time. The place is gorgeous. The service is attentive and friendly. The beer selection is great! And the food is fantastic. We have tried most of the items on the menu.. really like the pulled pork, salmon, smoked chicken, and risotto. The deserts are amazing! Very surprising to find such delicious well made food in a sports bar. It's fun to see Frank Thomas in person. We will definitely be back!

I've been here a few times for drinks only, first time I was upset that they didn't have a drink menu so I had to just randomly pick something. 3 of us ordered the same drink and they all tasted completely different, only one was good. Second time, I saw frank and took a picture that was lovely! Had one drink, finally was good. Even the flirty obnoxious girl wasn't so bothersome. Third time, I made it in time for dinner. I had the calamari, great service except for another over the top flirty/slutty girl who wasn't even our server but kept coming over to flirt with the boys. Gross. Anyhow, Calamari was not good, not well done and made me sick! I'm still throwing up from it. First drink was okay, second, not good. I suggest an upgrade on a girl or two, guys are very professional. Also, better food!! And drinks to be well prepared, loved the place I just can't go back if I'm going to get food poisoning every time. Don't have calamari!! And "hide yo boyfriends /husbands" 2 money hungry chicks will annoy you all night.

The ribs are the worst I have ever had!! Dry and extremely salty. They should take them off the menu. Hardly any meat on the bones either, why bother. Place looks great and our waiter was nice and apologetic for the poor quality of their ribs. I may give it another try and order something completely different.

I wish there was a separate ratings for food and service. I'll start with the positive... I love what the they did with the old bank! Its hard to make a bank look like a cool place to dine in, but they've accomplished this. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and let me tell you I have a high expectations for these. My taste buds were pleasantly surprised! The ham was the right thickness, the bread had the perfect consistency and crunch, the pickles were present but not overbearing. The rest of our party were happy with their meals. Frank came to our table and thanked us for coming, how refreshing! He is a charming man. Service Rating: 1 - The staff seemed liked they had never been in the restaurant business before. Our server did not have the drink menu for us and made up some lame excuse about why they didn't have one. It seemed common sense was lacking in the brain. We snagged some ourselves. Moving at almost the speed of molasses we painfully waited for our drinks and food. Some mix up happened with the computer and only half our table received food. 15minutes later the rest came. The manager and our server seemed less than sincere when apologizing although they did discount the bill as if this would magically make the screw-ups be forgotten. If I could make a suggestion: You need to hire more experienced staff and those who recognize the value of customer service and repeat business. With a restaurant of this size, the staff and service must be firing on all cylinders at all times. I will give them one more chance only because of the food and the sincerity of FT.

This place was all hype, and didn't deliver.. beers are $5! That's for a Modelo, or a stella. These are not even craft beers. Beer selection was terrible. This place has no business calling itself a brew house.. I'm sure it will get packed for Sox games.. they are better places around the area to enjoy great food, and have a cold beer..

Went in for dinner today with my friend. The manager was really nice and got us drinks while we waited for our server. They were updating their beer menu price wise so they didn't have one available, (managers should wing it and at least have a word print out or something for them to hand out) but judging from previous reviews we were expecting them not to have one yet. Our server was really nice as well. The host was kind of rude. I asked if my friend was working and she said she had never heard his name before so he must not work there. He does but okay cool. This is one of those places that is going to take time to get into the swing of things, it should only get better with time. The food was great. We had civiche, a turkey burger, primavera pasta, and cheesecake. We were huuuuuungraaaay so don't judge lol!

My brother and I went in about two weeks after it opened. I have no explanation for the crappy reviews I've read, but we had a great meal. We both ordered the bison burger, which was delicious. We ended up getting two orders of fries which we couldn't help but inhale. The place itself is huge. I read the reviews about the service before heading in, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It ended up being great. Zero issues with the host or our waitress.

I don't get all the negative reviews for this place. Must all be Cub fans. My dad, bro and I went in there yesterday. First thing, the building is beautiful. Secondly, I read someone saying that none of the tv's are close to the dining area. To this person, I ask if they have had their eyes checked recently? Those tv's are huge. I could easily see the game from the farthest tv away from my table. Thirdly, the Hall of Fame beer is good. Fourth, our server Renata was awesome. Joking around, giving us tips, taking pictures and is also easy on the eyes. And last, the food was great. I had the Doube cut pork chop. It was perfect. My brother had the mushroom risotto and it tasted great. My dad had the shredded prime rib sandwich and it melted in your mouth. This place hit on all the five marks, so it gets five stars. I wish I lived a little closer so I could go more often, but best believe I will be there many times in the future. The Big Hurt put another one on the board with this place.

Three of us went for lunch on Friday. All of us ordered the Salmon BLT. OK, so it sounds kind of weird but it turned out to be delicious! A quality, grilled piece of salmon filet, with Applewood smoked bacon and avocado. We rarely all order the same thing and when we have one of us usually complains. This time we all agreed it was great. I had regular fries but my companions paid a little extra to get the sweet potato fries, which they loved. Reported nicely spiced and not overloaded with salt. The history of the building was preserved, with nice architectural designs of things like the old vaults. The atrium type dome is amazing, providing an open and spacious feeling. The server was wonderful. One of our party likes tart beer. She gave him a couple of tastings, so he could choose one. Many of the early reviews here could have been better. Perhaps they had "new opening" pains. Food is of course, a matter of personal taste. (One of my companions thought maybe they were posted by Cub's fans!) This place had great atmosphere, food and service. We enjoy pizza and Mexican food but Berwyn already has plenty of both. It's nice to have an establishment like you'd find in Chicago, to lend some diversity to the restaurant/bar scene here.

Ate here twice with family. We ordered lots of entrees to share for the table. Pulled pork and salmon salad were perfect. Burgers were delicious. We actually were surprised that the mushroom risotto was as good or better than anything that we have had at fine Italian restaurants. Hats off to the Chefs. The staff worked our table as a team so there were multiple people stopping by to check on us and refresh drinks etc throughout the meal. Was thinking they should have some kind of gourmet hot dog on the menu but I heard from a friend that it was already established as a Franks Friday Special! Nice crowd. I agree that parking should be free but other than that it was a five star experience.

I was excited to try the Big Hurt...on the night my brother and I tried it Frank Thomas was there that was super cool! He was very friendly even took pictures with us. The restaurant has a night club feel open and airly nice. The waitress was rude and lacking common waitress skills didn't offer a drink menu cuz there isn't one, didn't recommend drinks or menu specials... Food menu is limited..would have been nice to have salt and pepper on the table been offered a glass of water with our meal I asked for tea..she served it and didn't even offer up any sweetner cnecking in with us seemed like an after thought, oh and when she brought my brothers beer spilled it on his hat and didn't applogize .... The meal was so-so sadly won't be going back..this place will tank soon if big changes aren't made soon.

This was my second and last time trying this place. The first time, the service was awful, except for the wait staff. This time, I was served a drink with a shard of GLASS in my drink which I almost swallowed!! I showed the waitress the glass I pulled out of my mouth!! The restaurant gave us 10% off our bill. Really that is what you thought would be right???

Came here with a group of friends about two weeks ago, the girls in the front needed to act more professional, don't use sticky and notepad to take down our names. Please use buzzers. We asked for specific beer, they were all out, when asked for a specific appetizer, they were all out of that, for dinner I wanted the ribs and chicken, where also out of that. What type of restaurant runs out of food. When we asked for a second beer, it never came. I ended up getting a burger, it was ok. My husband got the ceviche appetizer since they were out of a lot of things. Our waitress kept blaming other people for the service we were getting.

The bartender was cute but could not make a martini to save her life. The 'manager' was too busy hitting on his waitress staff to notice the customers. 1 star for the name.

So far so good. Classy place with out the over dressed stuffy feel like downtown. You have to try the honey girl beer its really good. The big hurt mvp beer starts off ok with an over kill of raspberry under tones. I didnt care for it. The food is excellent ranging from 5 bucks to a 45 dollar steak.

Great location, parking is exceptional. The place is enormous. Love the dome vaulted ceiling. Friendly staff and good bartenders, reliable, curious, knowledgable, and on time. The spicy buffalo wings and bison burger were cooked to perfection, very delicious and with a taste not like other restaurants in area. The place is great and would recommend to everyone however the menu is a bit on the high side for some items. Needs more TVs near bar area, meaning, if you're going to have a sports bar, you're going to need more than three at least the bar. The booths with the self serving tap are great but if you're a person that needs leg room, this booth is not for you.

With utmost respect to my favorite ball player of all time, Frank Edward Thomas, Jr., this place (for now, given it's only been open 1 week) is mediocre at best. Service was amazing, Elias was our server, ask for him if you love good-quality, timely service. Beer was great, just as good as the aluminum can tall-boys I've enjoyed for years. Ambiance was very nice, considering that it's the American State Bank building (built in 1925) remodeled. So, I don't know why others are complaining about that. It's not a brand new, state-of-the-art establishment, cut them some slack! The only reason there are two stars missing from this review, is because of the food. I ordered the slab of ribs and my mother had the "smoked chicken". I'm not going to go into great detail as to why, but let's just say, you know a good quality meal when you get one, and this was FAR from it. I'm not sure if it's the quality of the of the food itself, or the executive chef, (I'm going to assume the latter), but something needs to be done about that menu/kitchen/chef/food/etc... Like cancer, harder to detect in its earlier stages but way easier to reverse, easier to catch in later, near-death stages, but way harder to reverse, the success or, life, of a business functions the same way. The Big Hurt may have finished his career with 500+ Home Runs, but this business venture will be a big Strike Out unless that food issue is addressed immediately. #GoSox

Frank. I'm worried about survival of Big Hurt Brewhouse. I've been to BHB 7 times. Service declined each time. Our visit last Sunday 6:00 pm led me to post this. BHB was a quarter full. 1) Prior visit it took 10 to 15 minutes to get our 2 beers in the dining room when BHB was almost empty, so this time we ordered drinks when waitress seated us. I ordered a 20 ounce Big Red. About 10 minutes later no drinks but waitress stops by, takes our food order. We watch, she eventually goes back to bar, talks to bartender, leaves bartender. About 20 minutes after placing drink order we get our 2 drinks. I ask her if there had been a problem with our drink order and she says bartender had not noticed our order. Frank, I was watching the female bartender all this time, and she spent the majority of the 20 minutes standing at the bar chatting with a couple. I mean 5 or 6 minutes at a time in one spot chatting. No wonder she did not see our order! Our waitress tells me Big Red doesn't come in 20 ounce, only 16 ounce, and sets a 16 ouncer on the table for me. I told her that was strange, because I drank two 20 ounce Big Reds the week before. Frank, the beer menu gives no sizes and no prices. Every time I have gone in the staff has to explain the sizes & prices, if asked. Sizes & price should be on the menus. I later ordered a 2nd beer and this time our waitress talked to the bartender, who told her they had recently changed sizes on some beers, but was kind enough to override the computer and pour me a 20 ouncer. Why so much trouble for the extra 4 ounces? Maybe because the 16 ounce was $6.50 and the 20 ounce was $7.50 on my bill? So 25% more beer for just one dollar more. Frank, were you trying to squeeze more money out of me by selling me smaller sizes? Big problem there. Prices and sizes on menu fixes that. 2) Waitress service was spotty. But I saw our waitress waiting tables all over the restaurant, which is not efficient. Tough to check on tables when running from one end to another. Frank, our waitress should have known we did not have our drinks within 5 minutes when the place was not that busy, no less 20 minutes, 3) Our food comes. I had ordered my salad with dressing on the side. (Waitress even wrote that down.) My salad had dressing mixed into it. Bus person immediately offered to take it back and would have it fixed in just a minute, and he got it back to me in about two minutes. Good for him! 4) The bill comes. Salad with salmon, price on the menu: $15.00; on the bill, $16.00! Chopped salad price on the menu: $12.00, price on the bill: $13.00! Politely pointed this out to the waitress. She went to manager. Waitress came back, explained they had changed some prices, and the manager took $2 off the bill. Frank, bill prices should NEVER be different than bill prices. Customer feels like you are ripping them off. Berwyn is a beautiful, middle class village. If they feel taken advantage of THEY WILL NOT BE BACK. 5) The BIGGEST problem in all of this, without doubt, is management. I consulted to restaurants in my early years, so my observations should count. We were there over 2 hours. I saw the manager (tall, thin athletic guy, buzz cut, looking sharp) walk through the dining room twice that entire time. He never smiled. He never stopped at any tables to see how things were. A good manager would have seen we had no drinks after 10, then 20 minutes. A good manager would have seen the bartender chatting instead of pouring and minding the bar or helping the wait staff if needed. A good manager would have given a hand to the waitresses if that had been the issue. Most of the time I saw the manager standing at the podium in the front atrium, or just standing at the end of the bar by the front entrance where I have seen you stand before. (Frank, bad design issue. You have a hostess standing at the podium away from all the customers, guarding the atrium, instead of assisting the staff.) A good manager would have come to the table to explain the overcharge on the bill. That is not a waitress's job. Finally, a good manager would have seen 3 waitresses standing at the podium yacking as we walked out of BHB. Where was the manager? Customers should NEVER see staff standing around in groups yacking when there are CRITICAL service issues that need fixed. I gave our waitress a 20% tip because I didn't blame her. She was pleasant and seemed concerned. We were pleasant to your staff throughout. I have been in BHB when a good, cheerful manager was working the room, checking the customers. Your waiters and waitresses and especially bus staff seem to be pleasant and thoughtful. Your food and beer are excellent and the prices? have been reasonable. Frank, please fix these easily fixed issues. You may even want to hire a "mystery diner" to report problems directly to you (read the Yelp reviews and you will see the pattern.) Good luck, Frank. I hope you can make it. I will update after next visit.

It's possible that things may get better; it's only been open a few weeks. Actually, one couple in our party had already been on its second day open, and said that the menu had been expanded since then. But, food-wise, it is definitely NOT a destination. We had a wide variety to choose from, true, but nothing was great. In some cases, not even good. Fish tacos were bad - a piece of fish so small that it was completely lost in a double layer of soft taco. Ribs were okay, not crazy about the sauce, nor the rub. The loaded fries (with pulled pork) was a HUGE portion, which no one at our table of 7 wanted to eat. The pork had a weird unpleasant taste. Sliced sirloin sandwich was also so bad that the person ordering ate only a quarter of it, purely out of hunger. Beer choices were pretty good, but service on that was poor. We ordered large (16 oz.) beers, but the waiter returned with small (7 oz.) ones. When questioned, the answer was "we only have one bartender." Not sure what that has to do with the size of the glass! Kids were given 16 oz. glasses for their cokes, BTW. Speaking of glass size, smallest martini I've ever had! Service generally was very confused; we had many people stopping by our table to see if we wanted anything, but the waiter who was assigned our table seemed overwhelmed. He was nice enough, just didn't know what he was doing. Because we had a large party, we questioned whether the tip was included in our bill; he, and another person, were not able to answer that question. When we were leaving and spoke to the manager about the issues, mostly as a helpful critique, he said, "We opened WAY too early! All hires were local and inexperienced and we weren't given the opportunity for proper training or procedures to be put in place." So . . . go if you want, the building is beautifully restored, but be prepared for problems, at least at this point.

Ok...I feel terrible about this review. First, the good. Good for Frank (or whomever actually owns this) for picking Berwyn. The building is an old bank that architecturally is very cool, They did a nice job preserving the roof/ceiling. Nicely done. Secondly, many thanks to Frank for years of memories. Here we go. I was super excited to see this coming to Berwyn (which happens to have some great places). The building really needed something like this to move in. I went with my wife for lunch hoping to have a new Beer-Lunch spot. We walked into the very large bright foyer. Seemed nice. A little sparse for now, but I imagine at dinner and/or Sox games it will be packed. The main room is split between a bar seating and booth seating. No problem. Besides the ceiling that was preserved (very well done), the decor was average at best. Simply painted walls, grays, not really much to talk about. The bar itself was rather ordinary. I am sure they spent a ton on building, but they forgot the interior decor. Ordered a Honeygirl and a BHB HOF. The honeygirl is a wheat beer with a terrible aftertaste. My motto is there is no bad beer, just better beers. Well, I was proven wrong. The HOF is truly terrible. It smells stale and skunky and tastes "off". My wife is just shaking her head because I bought a 12 pack a few years ago and took a long time to plow through, and I went back to it hoping they changed it. Nope. On the plus side is they have a lot of other beers. I didn't count, but another reviewer said 30. We ordered chip, salsa, guacamole app. How do you screw this up? My lord. The chips were so greasy they left grease on the plate. The guacamole tasted watery. The salse was chopped tomatoes with cilantro. Not terrible, but just tasteless. For our lunch, I order wings with spicy buffalo at 6 for $9. The menu claimed they are smoked. Could have fooled me. Not a hint of smoke. The wings were sub-par. At least they were hot enough to numb my mouth from everything else. We also ordered the flatbread. How could you go wrong. The crust was limp, cool, and chewy. The chicken chunks looked like (and unfortuntely) tasted like canned chicken, and the melted cheese seemed like it was under a heat lamp far too long. The water mentioned the beer cheese soup was made with beer (no shit) so my wife ordered it. It was quite thick ( like you'd expect), and then she tasted it. She grinned at me and offered to me. I thought it must be good with her sly grin. Hell no, she made me taste it because I would never believe her that something could be that salty. Like pucker salty. How? How can that be? Surely my turkey chili would save my day. It was presented with chili in the bowl with the sides (cheese, onions, sour cream) all on the side to dress it up how you like. Compared to the other items, this was a hit. Or I think it was, my mouth was over powered with salt and heat from the soup and wings. On the plus side....the waiter was polite. They have Revolution Eugene Porter. You can't imagine my disappointment with this whole experience. It has all the makings of being a really special place. Kudos to Frank for building in a rather unexpected neighborhood that could really use some investment. It could be a real draw into the area. It just fell short on every level. The food was truly terrible, the decor could have been so much more executed, and HOF beer is just gross. I love you #35, but only nostalgia would ever bring me back here.

Wife and i went there for lunch today. Big hurt Brewhouse, Big disappointment. First, its not a brewhouse. Not a drop of beer is brewed on site, and instead all the house beers are shipped in from contract breweries. Most people wont care, however, so moving on... The decor is... odd. Cheap paint (which is already peeling in places), odd choices in lighting and lighting placement, mismatched tables/chairs, leave the place feeling more like something you would find in a strip-mall outside of Vegas than a new restaurant in a Chicago suburb. The service. Well, our server was trying. They didn't have a beer menu, and the server couldn't tell me what was on tap, but she proceeded to go write herself a beer list and come back to me with it. Good for her, its a level of effort i appropriated, but shouldn't have been necessary if they had just printed list in the first place. Your supposed to be a brewhouse, after all. I ordered a commercial brew, and she ordered a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary was spicy, just like she likes, but it was so heavy on the Worcestershire it was like drinking a steak sauce. She sent it back and got back a more bland one, still heavy on the Worcestershire. Our conclusion is their bar is unfamiliar with Bloody Mary, or just has a very unique palate. Unfortunately, that's the only positive side to the service. The servers didn't seem to know what to do with themselves, and often just stood on the far side of the dining room staring down the isles. The person who appeared to be the manager was unkempt, greasy looking, and kind of creepy. He spent most of his time talking to the servers as far away form any customers as possible. His only interaction with us was when he took a plate away. He failed to express any interest in our meal or how we were enjoying our experience. We also noticed his clothes didn't seem to fit him. On that note, the uniforms for the servers were an embarrassment. If your going to make your servers wear a short pleated dress, make it a quality piece of clothing that actually fits them properly. My wife and i felt bad for every one of them as we watched them have to repeatedly tug them hem down as it rode up in the back. We both tried the beer cheese soup, and found it to be incredibly salty. The croutons, onions, and bacon that came with them were obviously not made in house, and i suspect were purchased pre-prepared in bulk. We both ordered burgers, she a 6oz prime and me a 12oz double prime. What came out were over-charred burgers, well done. The meat on the patties was densely packed and flavorless, like what you get from a restaurant supply company. The fries were mediocre, inconsistently seasoned, and half of them were overdone. We paid $50 for this meal. and could have had the same food at higher quality for less money right down the road at 5 Guys or BW3. We wont be back, and i will be shocked it doesn't go out of business in a year.

My husband and children went to this restaurant last weekend to try it for the very first time. The location near our house was great and parking was not a problem. Its beautiful inside and the staff was friendly. They were also able to supply a children's menu which is a big plus for someone who has kids dining with them. Our server, Tiffany, was superb. Not only was she super nice but she gave us the best service. She was so friendly to our kids and always had a smile on her face!!

Ate at Big Hurt's restaurant on a Sunday night. It was an uneven experience. It is a converted bank and it is a big, loud room. Many wide screen TV's. I had the St. Louis ribs. I prefer baby back ribs but I thought I'd try something new. I wouldn't order them again. They were salty and not as tender as most baby back rib entrees. The cream corn side was excellent. My wife had the beef sandwich and it was huge! She said it was pretty good. My daughter had the chicken breast sandwich and said the chicken was a bit dry. My martini was salty which leads me to believe they gave me a dirty martini - which I did not order. But I soldiered on and drank it! Service was a bit slow, but nothing to complain about. I'll give it another shot in about 3 months to see if they improve.

We visited this place on a Saturday night. Definitely make reservations for a weekend dinner. After arriving 15 min late we only waited about five minutes for our table. It was packed, lots of walk-ins that had to wait. After we were seated we were greeted right away. We got to sit at a booth that had beer tappers that we would be able to pour ourselves except the software was down. We wanted to sample the different beers that they had before we chose, so our server gave us a free sample. The honeygirl was delicious and I also ordered the don julio margarita which was also delicious. Our appetizers came out so fast. We had the mac and cheese fries (to die for) and the chipotle wings. All had great flavor. I ordered the slab of ribs which were perfect. I HATE when restaurants boil the ribs, so the server informed me the ribs were smoked for hours, my hubby ordered the bison burger which was also tasty and our sister in law ordered the chopped chicken salad. The food was delicious, the drinks were tasty and the service was amazing. We will definitely be coming back I just hope the software is working next time. The only complaint I do have is the parking situation. The lot gets full quick so we had to park down the block on a residential street. Some of those streets also require permits, so definitely be aware.

My experience was horrible. I visit with my friends on a Wednesday night so it was slow. As we enter the lobby was empty but it still took the three host two to three minutes to acknowledge that we were there. Then the server ask us for our drink order, I ask for a beer menu or a drink menu and he said that they didn't have one what kind brew house doesn't have a beer menu and didn't know what beers they had. He promoted their house brew and I try it just find out that it tasted just like a light beer if I had know that I would had had bud light. The server mess up my soup order instead of a beer cheese soup he brought me a chilly. After I got my cheese soup i personally thought it was salty. I order a Cuban which I think it need more flavor because it was blend. After we finish our dinner the server offer desert we ask to see a menu and guess what he brings us a beer menu with the desert on the back. I got really upset why lie. He then brought the check he charge us for bowls instead of cups of soup. I'm personally a server and this service was horrible they better train this people better. I'm probably never going back

Meatball Lollipops were absolutely delicious!! Prime Burger was good and so was the grilled chicken sandwich. Have a cocktail menu and 30 tap beers. Service was a little slow, bartender had to cover tables in addition to bar tending. I'll be back.

I had issues with this place before I even got there. It took 7 phone calls to get through to a live person without being disconnected to schedule reservations. I dismissed this as technical issues or thought maybe they were just really busy (even though a hostess should always be available for phone reservations). We had a small group of 7 people and were seating in the "Vault" section of the bar. This seemed pretty cool until we realized that there was no sound playing on the tv and no music. We felt a little secluded from the rest of the bar. The floor plan was odd and we felt they could have utilized the space a lot better. Our server was nice but very talkative. The wait staff attempted to bring us the wrong table's food and drink orders 5 different times. It started to become a running joke with our group. Before that I overheard another guest complaining to his friend that his order was wrong. Our server kept the drinks coming and checked in on us several times which was nice. What I didn't feel was appropriate were some of the comments he made when the wait staff brought the wrong food: "Yeah a lot of these servers are getting fired they don't know what they're doing" or something along those lines. He also made it a point to tell us that he has the highest sales amongst the staff.... When we asked to have the volume turned on our tv, he said the manager hadn't figured out how to work it but he would ask. When they got it to work, it was so loud we couldn't even hear ourselves talk. My friend asked if they could turn it down. He said to her, "Oh now it's too loud? You guys are picky." Im not entirely sure if he was joking, but it we couldn't tell, he probably wasn't. Two of us ordered the BBQ chicken chopped salad. There was nothing BBQ about it. The dressing I'm sure was Cesar and not the homemade ranch they bragged about. It was very bland and had no taste. Being as hungry as we were at that point we just ate it. My boyfriend had the pulled pork and said it was nothing special. When we finally received our bill it came out to $52/person. In my opinion, the whole experience and food wasn't worth it. To top it off, the manager kept stopping by and trying to crack jokes but it was just awkward and very forced. Our server even told us that the manager asked if we were still eating or drinking and if not then he could kick us out of that section. He jokingly said he didn't care if we hung out for a while. But if that were the case, then why would he even tell us that? I'd like to give this place the benefit of the doubt and hope that it will improve. Even then, I don't think I will ever go back.

Went as a party of four and had great service, and enjoyed the food and beer. Would definitely go back again.

Went to Big Hurt with team from work as a reward and was greatly disappointed. The issue/challenge is that prices reflect high end bar while the decore/vibe is more sports bar. Food was below average and my sandwich was cold. Out of two beers requested and waitress did not really know menu. This business should shape up or face a real tough road ahead.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Service was AWFUL. We had reservations for 10 people at 7:30 pm on Monday, December 29, 2014. We were seated at 7:40. At 7:50, someone from our table went to look for a server, because we were all dying of thirst. At 8 pm, 20 minutes after being seated & still not having a server come over, my aunt called the restaurant & spoke to the hostess & said a server hadn't come over yet. Hostess said, "I just sat you guys." My aunt said, "Yeah, TWENTY MINUTES AGO!" Food was awful. I ordered an appetizer, "meatball lollipops," which were little meatballs with lollipop sticks in them, supposed to have cheese melted on them. They were cold & they were TURKEY (I'm not a fan of ground turkey). Didn't mention that on the menu, & certainly not worth $9. My husband had a Cuban sandwich, it wasn't pressed down, like it should be, & was just Ok. French fries were good, but how difficult is it to make french fries?! The people who had the pulled pork said it was good. Burgers didn't look like anything special. Everyone who had beer said it wasn't very good either. The manager never even came by to apologize or check on us. VERY disappointing. Certainly will not be going back.

I didn't know who The Big Hurt was when I got there, but I sure learned fast. Let me tell you the story. Friends were meeting there, and called to invite us to join them at the new brewhouse in Berwyn. We drove out from the city, and were more than delighted with the free parking. When we walked into the space, we were amazed at how beautiful the space is. It was not to be outdone by the beer - it was terrific. I'm a Pilsner fan, and The Big Hurt Brewhouse did not disappoint. Time to eat. We all ordered something different and shared. There was pulled pork (great slaw) and smoked chicken, both delicious, and my favorite was the risotto - it was perfect. As we were finishing our meal, Frank Thomas came by the table to talk with us. I was quickly told by my fellow diners who Frank Thomas was. What a super nice guy! I've been to other "celebrity restaurants" and the celebrity is never there. It was totally refreshing to not only meet The Big Hurt, but to feel absolutely welcome in his restaurant. We will be back.

I went to the Big Hurt Brewhouse this past Saturday Dec. 27th at around 7pm. I'm a huge White Sox fan and I grew up a huge Frank fan so I decided to check out this place for my 31st bday. So I went with wife and child of 7yrs old with the intention of enjoying the Bulls game while eating a burger. We were amazed on how the an old bank in which I can only remember as abandoned become a restaurant. Well the waitstaff was very attentive and helping when it came to ordering the house beers. I did try all 3 of Frank's beers and I do agree with the waiter that the IPA was the best. I think the honey girl is just way to light for me and the Hall of Famer was just oK. And as for the food well there good great and awful and that is why I gave it only 4 stars. The appetizers were good...we had BBQ Chipotle wings and stuffed Mac n Cheese fries which were both good. I had the double burger and my daughter had the mini burgers and they were both great...not to greasy and full of flavor. And now my wife is not a burger girl so she 1st ordered their shrimp pasta which we figured it should be good seeing as the menu contains several high end items on their menu. Well unfortunately it was flavorless and the shrimp tasted like it was just thawed out And served with a batch of pre-made pasta. I did call the waiter over and informed him to charge me for the pasta but order me a different one that taste better. So he recommended the chicken pasta. My wife did not like that as well...she felt it now had to much seasoning and cheese on it...I did disagree with her about that I kind of liked that pasta but I really don't eat too much pasta unlike her. So other than my wife only eating appetizers and me paying for to pasta dishes for her the place was amazing. I loved the scene, atmosphere and what I ate I really enjoyed and so did my daughter. I did talk to the manager at the exit and he was very apologetic and seemed like a really down to earth guy since we talked more about Frank, the White Sox and plans for the restaurant in the future. like I said I really enjoyed myself there and I will deff come back soon. I will just encourage my wife to ordering a burger or something else besides pasta well at least until it gets better. Go Sox and can't wait to go back!
