When visiting Belvidere, my family will typically eat breakfast here once or twice over the course of a week, and we've occasionally dined for lunch or dinner. It's typical family restaurant fare - the food is decent, reasonably priced, and the service is prompt. We will be back.

I'm from Northern California, and visit belvidere Illinois several times a year and always make The Steam Plant a must stop for Breakfast. Our waitress Cindy has been working here for 20 years, and is very sweet, efficient and charming. The food was fresh, flavorful and exactly as I ordered it. I love this place!

Stopped by for brunch with the family and had the Philly cheese steak, kids pasta and a chicken Colorado sandwich. First are soups arrived and tasted like they had been sitting on the burner all day. Vegetable soup only really had cabbage and three pieces of carrots. The cream of potato was clumpy and had a film in the soup. Both soups were bland and nasty. The Philly cheese steak meat was dry and barely had any cheese. The kids pasta looked as if was canned tomato sauce and dry noodles. The chicken Colorado was the best thing we had ordered but still mediocre at best. The interior is really old and needs updating which they try to cover up with tons of old Belvidere history pictures and old newspaper articles. The service was great by the servers that was the best thing about this restaurant. The bill came out to almost $30 with drinks and I don't plan on coming back as later that night I felt like I had food poisoning. The food I ate at steam plant restaurant had me sitting on the toilet all night saying "When the food you eat is dirty and butt feels kind of squirty.Diarrhea! Diarrhea!"

Good food, good value. The place does need a good cleaning. Also the areas to get around the tables are very tight for anyone. The service is okay. Not fantastic but it will do. Worth your time. I'd go again.
