While traveling through Anna for a couple days from Austin, TX, a friend and I discovered the Hungry Bear Cafe. It's important to note that with few exceptions Anna only has fast food to offer, and as such our expectations of finding a quality meal in this town were very low. Boy, were we wrong. We ate breakfast at the Hungry Bear twice, and both times it was awesome. The portions were generous and the food tasted like it was made with real ingredients. It's so easy to find restaurants serving the same heavily processed garbage everywhere in this country, and, sadly, when food tastes like food, it's a breath of fresh air. Jenni was our waitress on day two. She was warm and inviting. She was one of the best waitresses I've ever had, and my friend and I will remember her forever. Anna should do it's self a favor and rename it Jenni in this humble traveler's opinion. Eat here, you won't be sorry.

Okay, I have been eating here since it has opened. They have gone through about 4 menus and keep changing the stuff that's actually good. They can never seem to keep the same staff which means people who don't know the food. The server, which has NEVER been the case, was rude and simply shouldn't have been there. The horseshoe is still there....kind of. They have the orignal but the gaucho (chilli) and the sloppy(sloppy joe) are both gone and they can't seem to make them anymore. Too bad, I have given them about 7 visits hoping it would get back to the way it was because it was once truly great.

Well this is simple. I've been here 4 times and 3 times it was epic. Here's the thing, the one less than stellar visit was in the evening. Reading other reviews I'm thinking this is the place to be for breakfast and lunch and maybe stay away in the evening. By the way, Server Jenni really is as nice as previously mentioned. Order a horseshoe and you enjoy life.

I tried the Hungry Bear Cafe for breakfast this morning. The biscuits and gravy was good and the ham was good. My omlet was not cooked all the way inside, the egg whites were runny inside. When paying almost $8 for an omlet, i'd have expected it to be cooked all the way. The service was okay. There was no offer to take it off my bill after telling them it was not done. I went back tonight to give them another try. The service was the worst service out of any restaurant I have ever been to. I think the waitress forgot about us. It took her at least 20 minutes to take our order. My husband ordered the catfish special. The catfish at the chinese buffet is WAY better. They gave you 4 very small pieces of soft catfish that was very bland. His coleslaw had an orangeish color to it and was very bitter, definitely not edible. I ordered the Philly Horseshoe. I asked for no onions or peppers. Not only were there peppers on it, there was a long pepper stem on it. The meat had the taste and texture as though it came out of a can. After receiving our bill, we waited another 20 minutes and the server still did not come back to collect the check and run my card, so I ended up leaving the cash on the table. I will never go back. I do not recommend this place to anyone. I am a fair person and usually don't complain, but after trying this place 2 times, I thought I needed to let everyone know.

If you have not tried a meal here recently you are missing out! The food is great and service is friendly and fast. The food is reasonably priced and above local standards.

Finally a place to sit down and enjoy a great meal!! I had the Angry Horseshoe and added chili!! Soooo Good!! Ill be back for sure!
