Best Chinese food I have had in the Northern idaho area. The vegetables and noodles were very fresh. Everything I ordered was very good.(I had one of the combination plates and my wife had the cashew chicken). Both were outstanding. This is a very small mom and pop establishment. It seems like they do a lot of their business as take out. There are a few tables, but the dine in emphasis is clearly on the food quality and not the ambiance. I'm OK with that. Blending ambiance and food quality is ideal, but if I had to choose only one, I'll take food quality every time. I usually don't like to write a review based on only one experience, but the food was so damn good, I was motivated to share right away. I will be going back on a regular basis. They do not take credit cards. Cash or local check only.

We've driven by for years and never tried them. Shame on us! I started reading Yelp and decided to give them a try. We ordered a family combo meal for two and had enough for four! It was delicious! We drove over from Post Falls and got it to go. When we got home the food was still piping hot. Our meal had chow mein, rice, almond chicken, and kung pao beef. We enjoyed all of it and look forward to our leftovers tomorrow. :)

Whoever thinks this is authentic can't possibly have come any closer to real Chinese food than the frozen aisle of the grocery store. This is horrid, deep fried nastiness with revolting sauce that tastes of packaging and corn syrup. I'd go back - if well enough paid, dared and cajolled. G-freaking-ross.

What a find!!! As someone who usually likes to elaborate and write detailed reviews, I'm keeping my review simple and brief for Paupau's, I guess primarily because after trying out what was offered in CDA and repeatedly getting disappointed, I didn't think I'll ever find a place that comes as close to something like in LA & SF Chinatown... Chicken Chow Mien, Kung Pao Chicken, Szechuan Beef and the BBQ Pork Fried Rice...Absolutely delish!! Plain and simple, The best I've had in Northern Idaho... (Thank you Christine and Elizabeth for introducing us to this place!) P.S.: Don't forget to try the egg flower soup!

True Chinese food! Pau Pau's doesn't need to win you over with fancy tables and uptight service. They will woo you with their home style Chinese cuisine that is straight off the streets of Asia! Authentic and fresh, you cannot find anywhere else in town! Pro- Authentic Fresh ingredients Affordable Large Menu Owner June is hilarious and generous Con- Not the most visually appealing location or seating area. Very hole in the wall style. Owners speak Chinese, decent but broken English (can be hard to clarify orders) ***note: owners can seem standoffish, this is a cultural difference. They mean no disrespect and are VERY VERY friendly when you get to know them :-)

The BEST chinese food in the cda/Spokane area. Everything was so deliciously fresh. It came out hot and fast. The two people there ( I assume the husband/wife owners) were so friendly. I'm amazed that we were the only patrons-granted it was 7pm on a Monday. This will be our go-to dinner choice before pizza or sandwiches from now on.

Not a fan of the atmosphere. The food was just okay but maybe I didn't order the right thing. I might try this place again but I'll definitely get my order to go. Prices were good and the employees were nice.

I really, really wanted to like the food and have it be our 'go to' place for Chinese food since we are new to the area. We trusted all the great yelp reviews but found the food extremely disappointing. The restaurant was very clean and the owners very pleasant. The food was prepared quickly for our take out order. These were all very positive things and we were anxious to get home and dive in to our order of sweet and sour pork, almond chicken, and fried pork chow Mein. The sweet and sour pork was fried pork balls - no peppers or pineapple or sauce. The sauce was in a separate small container (perhaps to prevent the fried pork balls from getting soggy?) The almond chicken was fried, sliced pieces of chicken - no almonds, or veggies - nothing but fried chicken pieces. There was a separate container with an almost clear to milky white sauce devoid of any flavor whatsoever. The chow Mein was recognizable as chow Mein but did not have much meat or veggies - mostly noodles. It was not greasy as some chow meins can be, which is a positive. I hate to give a bad review but thought about it for awhile and thought it might help the restaurant to get honest feedback and help others new to the area to avoid a disappointing and expensive meal. ( each dish was about $10). Sorry Paupau's Kitchen! : (

I've lived about a mile from this restaurant for 20 years and have never tried it before! After reading the reviews, I decided to order some take out for dinner. I ordered the Mongolian beef and it was great! A little spice and lots of onion/green onion. Besides the carpets, the place looked very clean and my order was ready in about 5min. I ate a portion for dinner and will probably have enough food for at least two more meals. I will definitely be back and am excited to try a new dish.

I would spend more time writing my review but I'm too busy shoveling this rice into my face. So here is my review: O M G best Chinese in years. They have won "Best take-out of North Idaho" 2 years in a row, I see why..

Absolutely one the best mom & pop home cooked Chinese restaurant in our area. Unlike some pretentious Asian places that sprout between Hayden and CDA, I am glad that there's a place like Paupau's where the taste and flavor of each individual meal are memorable and an experience on its own. Have you been to that fancy so called "Japanese-Asian-fusion" restaurant in CDA? Uhm yeah, Paupau's food has variety and flavor distinction...millions of miles away from the monotone high priced gunk that those people serve. Authentic Chinese food doesn't mask everything using all the same sauce in every single meal...and they are not all sweet. What Paupau lacked in ambiance, the dimmed light and the cushy couch-like seats like the high priced "Asian" restaurant in CDA they definitely compensated with the quality and amazing taste of food. Cheers!

Pau Pau's is by far the best and most authentic Chinese food in the Spokane CDA area! The best whether you eat in or take out!! Large portions, great price...delicious food! The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because there is no ambiance in their little place.

This place was just awful. I ordered Moo soo beef and it was a pile of cabbage with a couple of specks of beef scattered in the bottom of the plate. The "pancakes" were old and dry, cracking when I tried to fold them. I ended up eating my moo shoo cabbage with a spoon. My Friends had soup and kung pao shrimp that looked just awful, with the majority of the kung pao a pile of uncooked peppers and onions. The meat in the soup was grey and the broth was clear.. Service was terrible. We sat down and waited for our server, and after about 10 minutes I walked up to the counter to grab a few menus where I was told to "sit down." After our dishes came, I asked for a cup of tea and received the most scornful look I believe I have ever received in a restaurant! My Friend ordered soup "A big, huge bowl, please" and after it came, he asked the server if that was the "large" bowl. She snapped at him "NO! YOU ORDER CORRECTLY NEXT TIME!" LOL! Cash only, bad service and terrible food. Nope, I won't be going back here. It speaks volumes that this place get's such high reviews. Clearly CDA is challenged where decent Chinese food is concerned. Until something better opens up here, I'll just stay home and make my own, Thank You.

Went here for dinner while staying at a nearby hotel because it was highly rated on several food review sites. We had the family style #4: Egg Flower Soup - tasteless, BBQ pork - good but mustard terrible, chicken chow mein - good (no crunchy noodles provided), almond chicken - bland gravy, pork fried rice - very good. We got Kung Pao chicken as our choice of side entrée. It was marked * for hot & spicy - it was neither. It was the blandest thing we got. I wish we'd have gone to Panda Express instead.

good but not great. still one of the better options in the area for chinese. was warned by a friend at work the owner may come off as rude due to language barrier issues but i thought she was very friendly and even gave me the lunch price for my dinner combo. really liked that they put the sauces for the almond chicken and sweet and sour chicken in a cup so they wouldnt get soggy. everything was really good except the chow mein. was not digging that. would definitely recommend.

Service here was fast and friendly. It's a mom and pop place, and the mom always remembers me and asks about the family. The food is just amazing, the best tasting Chinese by far in all of spokane and cda. I always get the Paupau special noodles, but the other dishes are good too. My friends usually hear about this place from me... A hidden gem

Couldn't ask for a friendlier family that runs this Kitchen. Love the food, love the family, and especially the company! Their water is excellent. Highly recommend this to anyone that likes this kind of cuisine.

Love this place! It's family owned and is a great place for take out! Very small inside so I always get it to go. Portion size is generous.

Great little place, family loved the food. Very busy for take out. Make sure you bring cash. My kids couldn't get enough of the sweet and sour chicken. Food was very fresh. Found this little place on yelp while staying at triple play. Will come again if in the area.

Absolutely the worst Chinese food I've had since moving to Idaho. Still searching for the best.

Very good "home" style food from Hong Kong. Some of it has been modified to fit American palates, but not by much. Some people will think that it is poor since they are used to the plum sauce and chop Sui none sense. The only more authentic food that. I have eaten appertaining from the Far East were in Las Vegas and the Vancouver B C airport where I was the only English speaker in the place.

Fresh, piping hot and authentic chinese food. The portions are large; one entree and a side is more than enough for two people. The owners were very friendly and fast. I just discovered this restaurant and I will definitely be coming back again.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
