I don't know why this place doesn't have more stars! I've been going to this place ever since I was little. Love their sushi! The Green Dragon is my favorite. Everything is made fresh and tastes amazing. The only downside to this place is that I get full soooooooooooo quickly because everything is awesome! They also have beer imported from Japan. Two thumbs up!!

Nice place, but not all that it could be. This restaurant features both Sush Bar and Teppanyaki option. My group opted for just sushi at our table. For the 7:00 dinner hour not very many folks seemed interested in the teppanyaki. Most tables in the dining room were full. Very clean. Simple beer and wine bar at the entrance in case you want a beverage while waiting. Tonight wasn't an issue. I started with a Tempura Shrimp appetizer. I was disappointed that it only came with 2 shrimp, but several pices of vegetables. If i had ordered the Tempura Vegetable appetizer would I have gotten more shrimp? Several sushi roll options. Entrees are not priced much more than other options plus you get a choice of miso soup or a salad. The menu didn't appear to be well marked to aide the patron in choosing what would be spicy. I gravitate toward the really spicy rolls when marked. There were no pictures on the menu to aide in knowing what you are ordering. Table card did show Sashimi options. Since I ordered an appetizer I decided to stick with a simple 18 piece spicy tuna maki combo. The others in my party ordered the fancy rolls. My plate didn't look any more impressive than grocery store sushi, nor did it taste any more fresh. The others who spent $3 - $4 more on their rolls had more impressive presentstions, and what they shared with me was very fresh tasting. Sakura does not overload their rolls with rice. And they do use generous portions of fish. Average roll prices on the entree menu were $14 - $19. Plenty of non sushi items available also. Service could have been more attentive. I was never offered a 2nd beverage or refill of water. No offer for dessert either. For my ticket they missed out on at least another $15 + tip. With all the other sushi options in the Boise area, Sakura just didn't impress me enough to say it's worth the 10 mile drive. I will not refuse a future return trip, but I will make other suggestions. I didn't take any pictures, but check out the other reviews to see what presentations look like.

*****five star cafe***** very delicious sushi with superb presentation. The decor is simple and bright, as a lovely cafe ought to be. Efficient service staff and focused chefs. Both dote on swift accuracy, which is more important than tap dancing to entertain a smile from me. I ordered the Angel roll and the rainbow roll while my guests had teraki chicken and the other had a triple combo rolls of sorts.

Absolutely disappointing. The building is very visually displeasing... There is NO energy or character, the service was very impersonal no one speaks English... And employees are spread across the dining area on computers or collected around the sushi bar. The sushi is extremely expensive and distasteful we paid $15 for one roll and it tasted bland and dry. The pot stickers tasted like they were from Costco and microwaved. Seriously a huge waste of money I would have rather ate at jack in the box... I'm gonna go throw up now.

I have NO idea how this place has bad reviews i am such a picky bitch when it comes to sushi .... this is my number one sushi place! everything tastes so flavorful and staff is usually very friend ... they also dont speak much english which only makes idaho republicans uncomfortable but i love it. We go in with two kids one 2 years old and somewhat psycho and they never make us feel uncomfortable or do we get those looks. We love it!

After living in Boise for a little over a year my wife and I have not eaten due to only 3.5 stars. We have had sushi and Hibachi in other places in town, but this is by far the best. We decided to sit at the grill and had excellent customer service and great food. We did not have Sushi this trip but we will the next time we visit. If you are looking for a fun date night or with a group, this is a great place.

Definitely would not return. Calamari batter is like onion ring batter. Not really sure what was on top of my sushi roll. It was like minced salmon out of a can. Dynamite roll seemed like it was prerolled hours earlier(maybe a day or two) and then deep fried. Just not a good experience. :-/

Why this isn't the highest rated sushi place in Boise is beyond me. Much less, this ridiculous 2.5 star rating. The sushi is delicious, with super fresh ingredients, the servers are great, and it is impeccably clean and there's no "sushi smell" (which is a really good way to know if the sushi is fresh/if the restaurant is kept clean). The waitresses all know us by this point and are extremely sweet and accommodating with our toddler son and even know that he likes no seaweed and extra tofu in his miso soup without us even asking. I think it's safe to say this is our favorite restaurant in Boise. I'm an LA native (a veritable mecca of good sushi), from a sushi loving family, and liberally and regularly partook of some of the highest quality stuff before moving here. Since moving here about 3 years ago, I went on the hunt for a good sushi place and I've been to Shige, Fujiyama, Sakana, Maru, Dharma and this place, and this place is my favorite. I've been here probably 2 dozen times, taken several rounds of friends and family, and everyone we brought has come back. The entire selection is great, the sushi rolls are always well formed and tasty, the sashimi selection is beautiful, they have lots of other options for people who are scared of sushi, the tempura is some of the best I've had (and my kid loves it)...you really can't go wrong. We've tried different things almost every time and haven't been anything other than happy so far. Let me break it down by lunch and then dinner. Lunch: the best thing about lunch is the price - it's stupid cheap. Especially the bento boxes, where you get soup, salad, california roll, melon and whatever entree you chose. It's like $6-7 and a completely satisfying portion. Yum and yum. This is when we come the most and are very friendly with the lunchtime waitstaff. If you love a good bargain and want good quality healthy stuff for the cost of an extra value meal, do yourself a favor and check them out at lunchtime. Dinner: markedly more expensive at dinner, but the portion sizes are appropriate for lumberjacks. It is nuts. Two people could easily share one entree, or satisfy one hungry competitive eater. I've not had the teppanyaki but I've watched it happen and it looked like it was done really well. One day, for sure. The only downside about dinner is there are no bento box specials, which means that it's basically a la carte prices for everything. Still worth it, but spendier. And it's worth mentioning, it's a completely comfortable atmosphere to come as you are. One of our favorite things to do during the spring/summer/fall is to ride bikes from our house (about a 20 minute bike ride), stop by the park and play with our son, and then head on over for a delicious affordable sushi lunch. No one ever blanched at us walking in with a toddler in tow and in sweaty workout clothes, but it is also still nice enough to go for your birthday dinner. It's a casual, comfortable and nice place to go.

Great food! Attentive service. Lacking atmosphere. Needs light music and dimmer lighting for dinner. The bright lights during dinner make it feel like a cafeteria. Reserve a private room (must be party of 5+) for a fun experience with friends and family.

We have eaten at Sakura about a half dozen times over the past few years. Generally, we have encountered good sushi, generous portions, average service, and a fair value. This evening (Valentine's Day) my wife and I decided to enjoy an early dinner at Sakura. When we arrived, the restaurant was half full, with most customers sitting at the grills in the back. We were promptly greeted and seated. As soon as we sat down, a server came over to take our drink order and then asked if we were ready to order our food. Seeing that we had not had an opportunity to open our menus, we requested a bit more time. About two minutes later, the waitress arrived and asked if we were ready to order "yet" (her word). We again stated we needed a few more minutes. Not more than three minutes later, the server returned and we ordered. We both ordered bento boxes, which came with miso soup and a salad. The soup and salad were standard Japanese restaurant fare. Before we had finished both appetizers, the main course arrived. Since the tables are quite small, we had to adjust our dishes to fit the plates on the table. Our California roles, assorted sushi, beef negiyaki, beef teriyaki, and shrimp tempura were well prepared and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the rushed pace of our dinner continued. Before we had a chance to taste every dish, the wait staff walked without saying anything. A second server refilled our glasses and our original server came by our table again-interrupting our conversation by silently staring at our plates while we ate for approx. 30 seconds. Getting the message that the staff was apparently anxious to "move them in, move them out" on a holiday evening, we quickly finished our meal. On our way out, we noted that the restaurant still had about five empty tables, despite having two small parties apparently waiting to sit down. In any case, it is unfortunate that the diner leaves with the impression that she is inconveniencing the establishment by ordering dinner. As an added "bonus" both my wife and I experienced digestive symptoms suggesting food poisoning after leaving Sakura. Needless to say, we will not return.

We had three of their rolls, and thoroughly enjoyed them, especially the "fiery." Great food, good service, fun to watch the sushi chefs work. Ambience (especially lighting - which were harsh fluorescents) could use improvement. But, We will be back. Total bill was $49 + tip for three rolls, two soups, and one non-alc beverage.

Low fish to rice ratio. Nothing special about this place and service is so-so. Will not return.

Good not great. Our favorite Japanese place is Kyoto, my favorite sushi place is Happy Fish. so I guess this falls behind those in my book.

Tomadachi to hiru gohan iku, shucho shimashita. Maguro to Unage suki desu. Alaska roll o tabemashita. Totemo oshikatta desu....It's always nice to drop by here for lunch, for a one day biz trip, right before visiting the big customer up the road. Yummy!!!

The sushi is awful. If you are going to use krab instead of real crab your menu and prices should reflect that! Don't bother going here. Yuck!

We were in Boise and it was Sunday night. Jesse was craving sushi. We looked on Yelp and most places were closed. Jesse's mom took us to Sakura. The place was empty. We must be late diners. Jesse and his mom ordered some sushi rolls and I ordered Unagi rice bowl. It was delicious. It was pretty basic rice bowl and it was pretty hard to messed up. I tried the sushi and it was pretty good. The price was a little steep but then again we were in Boise, kinda far from the ocean. So if you are looking for sushi place that's open on Sunday night around 7:30 pm, this place will save your sushi crave.

We were visiting family in Eagle and craving sushi so 8 of us went here. The staff acted put out when they had to push a few tables together, then they were the same when we all just asked for water. My son who is 5 was very tired and couldn't sit still and fell off his chair and started crying and they just looked at us like we were s*%)!. Then when we were given the check they came by in seconds to collect and rush us out. No checking in to see how things were just watching and unfriendly glances.

I'm kinda new to sushi but we went here a few weeks ago and found it to be very tasty! I've seen reviews saying the service was horrible. I didn't find that. I found the service to be fast and efficient. The prices are a little steep but I guess that's to be expected when you're talking about getting fresh fish into the Boise area. We will go back again for sure!

Food just OK. Seems like salmon and steak are bought in the frozen section at Costco. Salmon had been sitting under heat lamps and Steak was like chewing on leather. Staff not very helpful.

I felt like my presence was an inconvenience to the staff. Not only was the service terrible but it was the worst sushi I've ever had. I won't be going back.

I always enjoy this place. The fish is always good and seems pretty fresh. I have tried most of the sushi places in the valley, and this one is normally my first pick. Their sister shop Sakana is also just as good.

Out of town traveller and stopped by for some seafood Udon. The food was good but not that special. Definitely not bad like the one reviewer who seemed to sit at the bar. The prices are not cheap but also not over the top. There are sure a lot of options beyond what the name implies. The place actually has a small sushi bar (14 seats), four hibachi stations, open table seating, and three private floor seating rooms. The staff was friendly, attentive (not too much though), accommodating, and felt like a family group running it The patrons were all happy to be eating there which is always a good sign. The place is really bright and the atmosphere really is not anything special. I was there on a Sunday, 7:00 and it was not busy but quite and comfortable. I always measure a restaurant on if I would come back, and in this case I would give it a try again and try something different to eat. Maybe see how the raw fish is here.

Was quite surprised to find the place relatively empty during the lunch hour . . .if you're tired of fighting lunch time crowds, this looks like a good option. Two of us shared a huge boat full of a few rolls, shashimi and nigiri, soup, salad and I think it could have fed 3 or 4. We left stuffed and a few pieces remained on the boat. We did substitute the fake krab cali rolls, but if you like your Krab with a "K" stick with the original.

Anyone who knows sushi will not be happy with this place. The fish is what you would expect from a place so far from the coast. I used to work at HP which is just down the road. I got roped into eating at this establishment enough to know that they get fresh fish once per week. If you happen to miss that day then you'll know what I mean. The price for sushi is insane considering the quality. Better sushi can easily be found in Boise at a much lower price.. Update Jan 10, 2011: Woops: Posted this under the wrong business. Sorry Sakana. Thanks to the Yelper that pointed this out.

THE BEST SUSHI AROUND! Great lunch prices but dinner can get a little high. All staffers are asian and the love boat of sushi is a fabulous deal. All meals come with your choice of asian salad or miso soup, bigger entrees have both. TO DIE FOR!!! Groups larger than three can have there own small room with sunken benches where you remove your shoes for privacy and a really fun asian feel ( six small rooms) Call ahead for small rooms. They also have two hibachi tables that are also tons of fun for the whole family.

I'm not giving this place another cent, friends going there or not. I'll overlook that my last roll would fall apart upon picking it up, which I wouldn't even expect with a sushi guy at Albertsons, much less a legit sushi joint. Two general things to point out to management. If someone hates their job and doesn't want to work there, then get someone who would actually want to work there. Because it's quite obvious, and the bad vibes rub off directly to the customers in the form of poor service. And it's not like these are isolated incidents where it can be chalked up to having a bad day. The service hadn't affected me in my original review, but now it has. It's among the worst in the valley for sushi, or anything in general for that matter. The service at Superb Sushi was bad since I got literally no service, but that was for a one-time thing and haven't returned since. But Sakura has been chronically bad. I'm amazed they get away with it. My friends seem to be getting annoyed with it finally. Also, as the employees aren't Japanese, why put someone on the phones who not only speaks poor English but also has trouble understanding the Japanese-language food items being offered there? Good luck with trying to place a phone order. I'm already annoyed with the near-complete dearth of Japanese involvement with the Japanese restaurants here, primarily because I think we're being denied many a Japanese-style offering due to lack of cultural culinary knowledge from the people working at them. But this is another excuse to add to my reasoning. Having only a very rudimentary understanding of English is forgivable and happens all the time at Asian restaurants. But don't have them working the phones, and in my case have them figure out what the menu items actually say on the menu without it being like pulling teeth. You won't find this kind of discrepancy anywhere else around here save for Japanese restaurants.

Very good experience. Sushi is very delicious and some of the best in town. Owners are actually chinese but they make japanese suchi as good as the best of them. Sometimes I honestly wish I could eat sushi every single day. But it's too spendy. Only can eat here once in a while cuz it is expensive.

Went here while on a business trip. We ordered sushi to start with and finished with a main dish. Both were extremely good. The service was fast and the waitresses were all friendly. I recommend checking it out.

This place was good but not the best I've ever had. The sushi was very tasty but I questioned exactly how fresh it was due to the color of the tuna and salmon being not quite as red as it should be. Plus it wasn't super cold. I didn't get sick though so I guess it was fine. It's a clean place with a nice wait staff so I'd go back but I think I'll try a new place next time.
