Great food consistently, great service, and nice ambiance. The Food: Korean Tacos (4/5) Creole Pasta (4/5) Kid's mini corn dogs and fries (4/5) The Korean tacos was a special for the night and they were surprisingly good. Des Moines and its surrounding areas seriously lack the presence of Korean food, so when my Hubby saw a Korean inspired dish here, he wanted to try it. It's not authentic, but it was better than most other American places here that attempt Korean-inspired dishes. A must try if you see it on their specials. There was a lot on the plate and by filling. The Creole Pasta was delicious and plentiful. A great creamy sauce over pasta and sausage and shrimp. Will def get again. The kids meal was good. Our son liked it and that's all that matters! We found this place just driving around and yelping. We were pleasantly surprised and have been her twice now. Will definitely go back again soon.

Stopped here for lunch while in town for work. Service was fantastic and this is a cute place to dine alfresco - aside from the traffic noise. I was impressed that they had Deschutes on tap! The food was fine but I'm not confident I made the right choice. The steamed vegetables had absolutely no seasoning. None. Just plain watery veggies. The Cajun pasta was better with a nice creamy sauce. It is actually spicy the way Cajun should be. I'd recommend for a lunch - just stay away from the veggies.

Once upon a time this was a Fast food joint. Thank heavens someone changed this spot to a nice restaurant. I would like to come back and enjoy the west facing patio and fireplace in the summer. We just wanted a light bite. The grill offers a variety of salads, sandwiches and full entrees. The big hit with me is the creamy Parmesan dressing that I miss when I moved from the area. So I just had a salad and extra rolls to sop up that lovely garlicky creamy cheesy goodness and it will just have to tie me over til I visit family again. The wine and drink list was nice and prices very reasonable. Service was spot on. If you're a local I hope you are dinning here, if you're not - shame on you.

Question...Where can you go to get a wonderful meal on a monday night in Des Moines? Answer....I don't know since so many restaurants are closed mondays. So after taking two stabs at two different closed fine dining spots on 86th near Hickman, we found Urban Grill was open and were able to get a table right away although it was very busy when we arrived. I ordered the walleye on the list of specials with a salad and baked potato--but they had no baked taters. Subbed sweet potato fries instead. Ordered a mojito which was way too sweet so asked to have some lime juice added. The server returned with my drink having poured some out it out, added lime juice and some club soda, so it tasted much better, although if it had much alcohol in it at that point, it wasn't detectable. The walleye was bland and lacked inspiration. The sweet potato fries were not crunchy--these fries are somewhat broader than most, & were kind of mushy. There wasn't much difference in texture between the fish and the sweet tater fries and the dish lacked any acid to balance it. I ferociously squeezed the quarter of lemon over the fish but it wasn't enough to give it spark, and hey, why am I finishing an uninspired dish the chef sent out? We experienced decent wait service.

Really nothing super special here, I had a meal that was pretty mediocre...... Service was good ample parking and patio seating. The inside is fairly low lit seemed crammed.

We were looking for a quick (not fast food) lunch. We found it here. Really good Service, generous portions and decently priced. Husband had bowl of clam chowder with a beef sandwich. Both were very good and has half a sandwich to take home. I had a burger with pepper jack cheese, no bun along with a salad and house dressing. Everything Really tasty except for the hot house type tomato slices. By the way, there is some traffic noise since it IS just off the street. Nothing excessive tho.

My family of four went to the Urban Grill last night because we were looking for a good local non-chain restaurant. We picked Urban Grill based on yelp reviews. They have a bar area and dining room areas. We sat in the dining room as we were with our kids. It took a while before our waiter got to our table so I was starting to worry about service. We started with the small size of chicken nachos and they were awesome! My spirits lifted!! My husband ordered the chicken Alfredo pasta and really enjoyed it. I got the seafood chicken and while that sounded strange I truly loved my meal. The kids had Mac 'n cheese and a burger and no one complained. So glad to find a local place to enjoy a great meal. I gave it a 4 only because our waiter was a little slow although he was friendly.

Great for a business lunch. Never had dinner here, but have come here for drinks at night AFTER dinner. Pretty solid. GREAT service. For me, that's as good as the food. Solid joint.

I've only been here once, and that was this past Thursday at 2pm, so it was not very busy at that time. Service was fine. I had the Triple Threat Burger...beef, sausage, and bacon ground together to make the patty. The beef and sausage combo was excellent...and the idea of the bacon sounded great, but the flavor was unnoticeable when ground into the patty. The burger comes with 4 choices of toppings: American (cheese, lettuce, onion), Southwest (chipotle sauce), Italian (some sort of sauce that i can't recall), and Dutch (smoked gouda and caramelized onions). I had the Dutch...and it was outstanding. Great flavors and the sweetness of the nicely-done caramelized onions was a perfect touch.

A friend suggested this spot and the reviews were very encouraging - I was not disappointed! It was a busy Friday, but we were greeted and seated in a very reasonable amount of time. The menu had many options. I selected a marvelous fish dish with a great sauce. The side was asparagus that was grilled perfectly. Ice tea was the beverage of choice and the waitress was quick to refill the glass. This was a pleasurable dining experience at reasonable prices and portions that were exactly right for mid-day!

Flew in yesterday from California and was looking for a great place for a date night with the lady. This place suited that need. The wait staff was very attentive and did a great job. The food though... Man was it great. Perfect portion sizes, incredible quality, and presentation. The lady had the bacon wrapped filet and I went with the backyard chicken. Both were fantastic. Highly recomend to anyone in the area or just passing through.

The table was available when they told us. No extra time. Food taste was reasonable for Iowa. If you are hungry and you are not for anything sophisticated, good place to eat.

Nice house Parmesan salad dressing, nice wine and cocktail selection, nice top shelf, and a huge menu. We got the Italian stuffed beef tenderloin with fresh veggies, and the seared ahi tuna. Both were excellent. It was $60 for two with two drinks. Service was right on. I'll definitely be back, it's a really nice place with great food!

The crab rangoon dip was out of this world. So good, it's a definite must-try! I also had the chicken alfredo. The smaller portion was more than enough. Loved the taste! The chicken was a little lacking in flavor, but the pasta sauce made up for that. My husband had the fish tacos, and was a big fan of the shell. The wait staff is super nice, and the atmosphere is great for a date night!

We dined here on a whim on our drive home from Adventureland. Dressed in pool attire, I was quite nervous as we parked in the parking lot and saw people kinda dressed up coming out of this restaurant! We walked in, and the atmosphere was very very nice. Definitely not the restaurant after the pool type thing, but we were welcomed regardless of our attire, so obviously it didn't matter what we wore!! Phew! We were sat down in a nice little booth and our waitress promptly brought us waters. Our waitress, I must say, was very very professional! We first ordered some drinks and then browsed their extensive menu. We started off with their inside out crab rangoons. These crab rangoons are nothing like you have eaten at any chinese restaurant! It comes with chip like fried one ton wrappers, the crab/cream cheese filling, and the sweet and sour sauce on the side! So, it's kinda like chips and dip! The cream cheese filling, unlike any of the crab rangoons I've had before, and I must say, I have had many many a crab rangoon, tasted as if they used real crab! Their sweet and sour sauce was very light and delicious. Their chips, crispy and tasty! For our meals, my husband had a salad and I chose the seared ahi. His salad looked very fresh and I heard no complaints from him. The seared ahi looked and tasted as if it was just caught, although we know it wasn't :) Very fresh tasting and had great texture. In all, I really enjoyed this restaurant for their food and service! I would come here again if I were to be in the neighborhood again.

Had a really good visit to the Urban Grill. Came in about 7:30pm and was quickly seated. Had a couple of beers and a salad to start. Service was very solid throughout the meal. I followed up with the Urban Pasta. I was a crazy large amount of pasta and it was very tasty. It had the right amount of seasoning and salt, which I find often is lacking in pasta dishes. Prices were reasonable given the food. While I will not be in des moines often, this is a place I would return to.

I was trying to find a restaurant to have lunch with a friend who does not eat any fish and seafood. My friend told me she likes the food here so she and I decided to go for lunch on a Monday. I chose blackened catfish and she had steak salad. My catfish came with Cajun salad and sweet potato fries. Initially it looked great; however, when I took a bite of catfish it was very fish and had funny taste. I immediately spitted out and ate a piece of sweet potato fries which tasted good. I kept the sweet potato fries and had the fish taken back. The server brought me the menu and I ordered spinach salad. The spinach salad was okay. My friend's steak salad looked better. I should probably have ordered chicken or beef, not fish. I am not a catfish fan but I have had some great tasting blacken catfish in other restaurants. We ordered bread pudding for dessert. The light sauce on the outside had good flavor but the rest of was just solid rock of bread. We only had a few bites.

The Urban Grill - Urbandale, IA This is a cozy (or crowded) retaurant open for lunch and dinner. We've eaten here several times and have sampled a number of the entrees and specials. It's usually a good, solid place without pretensions or weird culinary experiments. Goat cheese and edamame fans will find it stodgy, but normal people will probably enjoy good service and good food well prepared. My last visit, however, was a little strange. I ordered an Old Fashioned before dinner and got a drink in the proper glass. I could taste the bitters and the maraschino cherries, but not a hint of liquor. The appetizer was fiery shrimp, and all four in the party agreed that it was a good choice, plenty to go around, and plenty of flavor in the tender, juicy shrimp. My entree order was for Seafood Chicken - chicken breast topped with crabmeat and shrimp and a rich Hollandaise sauce. What I received was chicken breast on toast with no detectable seafood and a sauce that was rich, all right, but was certainly not Hollandaise. It was delicious, but I'm still puzzled by it. A check of the menu online showed nothing resembling the entree. I'll submit a picture of it; maybe someone else can figure out what it was. By the way, the other three in our party all raved about their dishes. Three stars from me; four stars from each of them.

Stopped in for lunch while in the area. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. However, I was not pleased with my experience when we left. Lunch menu had lots of choices, prices were a little high but mostly reasonable. Cocktail and wine prices were too expensive. Two people in our group were sharing a dish, the server failed to mention it would be a $3 charge to share. For that price they could've got a side salad or bowl of soup! Food was decent, but not for the final ticket price.

So family came into town and we decided to eat here. This will be our 2nd visit. Overall the food tasted great. The portions seemed a lot smaller than my previous visit. Who knows why???? My only real complaint that the waitress took our drink order and forgot a couple items on it. Then she took our food order which was fine. She never stopped by once to ask how our food was or to refill our drinks. Yes, seven people ate a whole meal without a single drink refill. Once she returned to our table and noticed that every single piece of food was gone and it was time to remove our plates she then asked if we needed refills and dessert. We just grabbed the check and left. IMO she should be spending less time at the tanning bed and more time at the table.

Over the past year I have been here twice for lunch and have now been here for dinner. I agree with the other reviews that this restaurant has a nice atmosphere. Each time I have been here, we have had good service no matter the size of our group (from 2-5) and have never left without taking food home. I highly recommend the Inside Out Crab Rangoon for an appetizer. It actually tastes like crab rather than just cream cheese and they don't give you any broken wonton chips, only whole ones here! The Bruschetta is good too but if trying to decide between the two, go for the crab rangoon! For my lunch visits, I have had the Urban Fish Tacos and the Seafood Chicken. I remember both being good. Dinners come with a choice of side (they have a large selection) and a salad or soup and rolls. I had the Pecan and Coconut Encrusted Tilapia with Clam Chowder and Asparagus. The Tilapia was ok but not great by my standards. The Clam Chowder was also ok but not great. But the Asparagus was perfect! My boyfriend opted for the Smoked Chicken Jalapeno (pasta), and Chicken Tortilla Soup. He enjoyed all of his dinner and although not a big bread person, he said the garlic bread was very good. If you are looking for a nice place to eat where you won't spend an arm and a leg, give this place a try!

One of my Urbandale favorites. This will be my second time here and I'm ordering fish again. Last time it was the Mahi Mahi and needless to say it was fantastic so I'm here again and this time it's the roughy. The house dressing creamy Parmesan is highly recommended. Parking is their only drawback. Service was a little slow which I don't remember being an issue last time.

We tried the urban grill for the first time last night. The Cobb salad lacked flavor but the dressing - creamy Parmesan garlic - was delicious. Another in our party had the french dip and he liked it. I had the cheeseburger and it was cooked perfectly for me (medium well) and it was served on an onion type bun. Both the french dip and burger were served with shoestring type fries that we liked. Our service however was lacking. The restaurant was not that busy and our server seemed pre occupied and wasn't very attentive to our needs. After we asked for the check we had to take it to the bar area to be paid. Three stars for this restaurant and we would try it again as there are many interesting foods to try on the menu.

We were in town for business and decided this place looked like a nice place to eat. The atmosphere was nice. The waitress took an extremely long time to come get our order and the place wasn't that busy on a Tuesday night. The food took 30 minutes to get to is and by then I thought it was average. The waitress was on other side chatting away while we waited for our bill. My colleague ordered a dessert for the road and she brought someone's doggie bag. Then she had to be reminded to bring it out. Took over an hour and a half to have a dinner.

I went to the Urban Grill for the first time last night. I really likes the setting the restaurant provided. It's a great place to take dates or 5-6 friends for casual drinks. I ordered chicken Alfredo and it was delicious. The menu was a little pricey, but I'm just out of college so I can't afford too much right now. I had great service as well!

We just arrived home from dining here, and I must say I'm pleasantly full! It was my first time at the restaurant tonight, and I will definitely be back, especially for the spinach and artichoke dip! We were seated in a booth near the entrance by a very pleasant young lady, and the server was just finishing preparing the table for us. The atmosphere is very cozy and warm. Our server, Kassie, ended up being one of the most efficient and unobtrusive servers I've ever had. She made the experience very nice for two work-weary hungry guys who didn't want to be fussed over. She had refills for our drinks automatically as soon as the levels went past half in our glasses. Totally on the ball. That alone is worth gold! The spinach and artichoke dip... WOW! I want more right now! Will definitely be ordering more of that on our next visit to this spot! The tortilla chips were very light and crispy. But the burgers... Man oh man! Half pound burgers with the best shoestring and sweet potato fries! I had the spicy Cajun burger and my partner had the black pepper and bleu cheese burger. I wanted more of that Cajun bacon! We were very happy with both! I will definitely be back to try more on the menu. The inside out crab rangoon dip looks like something I want to try next time. The table next to us had it and really enjoyed it. All in all, we very satisfied and will be back as soon as possible.

Went the for the first time yesterday for lunch it was very good. Best sweet potato fries I've ever had (& I've had a lot!). I ordered the bruschetta type chicken sandwich it was delicious. I don't know what kind of sauce they gave me on the side w/ my meal but I put some on my sandwich and dipped my fries in it as well. I asked our server for a little more of the sauce and she brought me out the Basil Aioli sauce that goes w/ the Chicken Tuscany sandwich for some reason. At the beginning prior to ordering I asked which she recommended between the Chicken Tuscany and the sandwich I ended up getting and she recommended the one I went with. I also asked what Basil Aioli sauce was like before asking her recommendation. Maybe she got confused since I asked about the sauce before or something I don't know. I tried it but didn't care for it and wasn't going to trouble her since she was not very attentive throughout our visit in the first place. I'd go back though, good food. We also tried the key lime pie. Yum!

I ate here for a business meeting at the recommendation of two friends. First off, the ambience here is quite impressive. It is small and quite cozy, and the decorating is really great! (During winter, that entry way fire place is a great touch. So WARM! Our party had: The Spinach salad, with walnuts, fresh cut strawberries and vinaigrette ; Cobb Salad ; Blackened Salmon. My salad was great and our beverages were re-filled promptly. Our waitress used discretion noticing our laptop and our discussion. I highly respect that!! Now, the only negative. I called before and spoke to someone whom I won't name to ask if they had Wi-Fi and the person said they did. When I arrived, I asked a server for the password and she quickly replied, "We don't have Wi-Fi." in quite a rude tone. When I told her someone had told me it was available, she replied again, "We don't have Wi-Fi" and sounded more agitated. Other than that, I will certainly be back. I am sure this just came down to one misinformed employee, and a rude employee that will likely only last a little while anyway.

The all-american hamburger was great and the sweet potato fries were hot and delicious. The spinach salad had a sweet vinaigrette dressing surrounded by fresh strawberries. The $3 grilled salmon on top of the salad was plain but good.

I've been here several times and was disappointed each time. There are no healthy options on the menu unless you want a salad - which is okay - but variety would be nice. The prices are high for what you get. The atmosphere is nice and very clean. The service is a little slow but good nonetheless. Also this place is not family friendly for little ones.

Hidden away, you might pass by it a hundred times, but its worth searching it out. The breakfast portions are huge and the pancakes and hash browns are the best I have eaten in Des Moines.

Urban Grill is absolutely fantastic, hands down. Every time I dine there, I don't even look at the menu. For me, the carbonara is a must-have. It's creamy with crunchy bacon and fresh chicken and mushrooms with plenty of shredded Parmesan cheese on top. The atmosphere is also great with a bar area and an intimate dining area. The service is always great too, and they are very prompt with our food. Definitely try it out if you are in the area!
