A group of us decided to stop here for a late dinner a few days ago while hanging out in Urbandale, mainly because none of us have eaten here before and were interested to see how good their Chinese food is. They were closing in less than 30 minutes and they were happily able to accommodate us when we showed up late. This is a very big restaurant based on it's vast capability for seating, eating in an empty restaurant felt weird, but it was nice knowing the chef is cooking for us and only us. The server there is an older lady and I believe she may be the manager/owner based on what others have been saying and I would think the same. She is very friendly and has a very positive attitude. The interior decor is very nice, they are definitely attempting to bring the Chinese interior design to the customers eating experience. For dinner we ordered family style, we each ordered a dish to share with the whole table. We ordered the Bird's Nest, Mandarin Pork, Sizzling Beef, Triple Delight, and the Shrimp in Lobster sauce. All of the dishes tasted fantastic with the exception of the Bird's Nest. The Bird's Nest was pretty bland, not too much flavor. I was nervous when I read other reviewers stating their dishes are bland, but 1/5 is not bad. I recommend trying their more authentic Chinese dishes to get the full experience of their food quality. I'm not sure how their Americanized Chinese dishes taste, but I suggest stepping out and trying something new!

Service was friendly and efficient. Unfortunately, that's where the praise ends. Lunch is seemingly a good deal--$6 gets you an entree, rice, soup, egg roll, and crab rangoon. The hot and sour soup was neither-just bland broth with the usual ingredients. The empress chicken was cooked well and had a generous supply of vegetables, but again, the sauce was very bland. No spice at all and I felt like it was "just there". I subbed steamed rice for fried and wish I hadn't. It was clumpy. Chinese Tea was very dark and came in a handle with a teacup--not very authentic, IMO. The place features an inviting decor and it was very disheartening to see the other reviewers were right. The older lady, who I assumed is an owner was very nice and kept my water filled. She seemed happy that I came in and made some conversation. I wish I could say the food would bring me back, but I wouldn't feel right about misleading this site's viewers.

Been here since I was 2 weeks old. Awesome service and their food is great! Definitely recommend it especially for a family

Wish I'd read the reviews BEFORE eating here. Bland does not effectively describe the tasteless General Tso's chicken. Hunan special fried rice was a little better...but not much

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
