It's a good place to go for lunch and or dinner. It's very family friendly. Great food. When I went there I had chicken strips, and I had that they were pretty decent. My mom and brother both had a burger and they said it wasn't the best they have had. The service was good but could be a little faster. The place was clean and was very nice to be in. It wasn't very loud either. The appetizers as appetizing as I hoped they would be. Overall great food, great service, and an amazing place.

After going to the West Des Moines location a number of times, we moved on to Urbandale as it is closer to home and a bit nicer. This is a complete bar, but it has become a good family stand-by for dinner. It is seat yourself, which can create a little craziness when it is busy. However, we've always had great service and been discovered right after arriving. I just feel bad sitting at a larger table when it is the only one available. It is the luck of the draw about this place. Most of the time it is busy, but not so busy you can't find a table as it's pretty big. My husband has tried a few burgers and always been happy, but mostly we go for the pizza. They have a huge deep dish pizza with a cheese they brown on top that is absolutely wonderful. It is not burnt as some other reviewers think. The large feeds three of us with leftovers. It's just a big pie, and as they say on the menu it takes a while to cook too. It is worth the wait. You are in a bar, so they do have drinks while you wait!

Great dinner tonight with family! Chicken Coup has great apps and we enjoyed cheese balls and onion rings! Our server was attentive and really great!

We keep going back to give it 'another shot'. Won't go to this location again even though it's more convienent. Urbandale needs to take a lesson from the "original" Coop in terms of service with a smile and putting the customer (who keeps the place in biz) first making them feel important no matter if the place is packed or dead without making excuses and making wrongs right. Tonight's experience was UNBELIEVEABLE. Upper UPPER management needs to step in and get a handle on who is representing this establishment when they are not on the premisis. This is ridiculous to say the least. So very sad to have to report this information. Hopefully they will 'clean house' get a new, positive, cheerful, 'go the extra mile' group' that will keep customers coming back rather than telling them that "it's okay if you don't come back. It happens in this business". Shaking my head...... wow.

I eagerly anticipated the opening of the Chicken Coop's Urbandale location. Yesterday, I stopped in for dinner with my mother and three of my friends. After seating ourselves, we didn't wait very long before being greeted and received our drinks fairly quickly. This however, was the only time we were treated with quality customer service. Our server, Mariann, started to take our orders and one of my companions suggested that she write down our orders but she said it would be fine. Initially, only three of us ordered. We each ordered a sandwich with side. We did not order modifications to how the items were stated on the menu. After a few minutes, another person at the table placed her order. Again, she did not order anything special. When the first three orders arrived, one of the sides was not correct. We advised the server of this and she said she would get the correct side. The correct side did not arrive until after we had each finished our sandwiches. My friend who placed her order after the rest of us received the incorrect side as well. Then, when the correct side arrived, it was so hot that she couldn't eat it for 5-10 minutes. As I observed the server walking around the dining room, she had her shirt untucked, looked very unhappy and did not promote a pleasant atmosphere. There was also a trainee working with her, Claire. Claire was friendly and attentive to us as far as removing items from the table and refilling our drinks. In advance of my visit, I did read the other reviews on Foursquare and Yelp that warned of the lackluster service. I didn't want to believe this would be the norm. However, after my visit yesterday and talking with a few other people who have recently dined there, I am afraid it may be. Everyone was pleased with the quality of the food. My only comments regarding the menu would be to clarify that the roasted corn has onions and peppers by possibly naming it Southwestern Corn or Mexican Corn. Also, a more diverse or more reasonably priced dessert menu would be appreciated.

Went here on a whim for lunch and it was a very pleasant surprise. Nice atmosphere with plenty of tv's and everyone in our group thought their food was excellent. I had one of the best buffalo chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Tried a couple of my bro-in-law's wings and they were great. A little hard to find because it's in a strip mall west of the interstate in nw urbandale but worth the trip.

Came back for lunch yesterday and had quite the opposite experience. The waitress was perfect, but the food wasn't. Had the same prime rib sandwich and it was awful. It was still kicking, and you couldn't even eat it on the bun there was so much connective tissue. They didn't even ask how I would like it prepared. I guess raw was the only way served. I had to saw it with a knife and eat the bun seperately. Fries were cold and limp. I only gave the 2nd star because of the waitress.

Was excited to try this place for lunch and must say not as good as I had hoped. I did go with a salad with crispy chicken on it, maybe that was my own mistake. The chicken was really over done and tasted dried out. The dressing was good though and I will agree that the the food came very quickly. Today was a holiday but it took the server 30 mins to come over to the table after we were seated. I will give this place a couple of more tries as maybe this is not a salad place. Still, the Coop is lucky that they do not have a ton of competition at this locale.

I really want to like this place. I've given it multiple opportunities. But I always seem to come away thinking I'd just had a belly filler experience. The staff is tuned out with no sense of urgency or hospitality. The food is inconsistent at best. The interior is loud and uninviting. There's just nothing to stand out here.

NASTY!! The waitress fingered my straw into my new flat coke. The potato skins were grease bombs so bad we said something. They didnt offer to remove the potato skins or discount. The wrap i had was tasteless and plain. Fries were nasty greasy. I didnt leave a tip even due to being grossed out by everything from the waitress' s mannerisms to the greasy gut bomb food. Needless to say, I will never return.

Solid neighborhood favorite! Good food, cold drinks! Right on the bike path along 128th and has bike parking! Wings are great! Chicken sandwich is a staple! Awesome fries! They have pizza and I hear it is good but we have not tried it yet!

Decent enough food. Lunch for six on 3/27/12. The food was tasty and the service was very good. Would like to try many of the other chicken-based dishes.

It truly pains me to only give this Chicken Coop three stars as I love the other location! My work is close to this location so we were all so excited to get a new lunch place nearby. We went the second week it was open which could be the explanation for the lower rating. The interior is great! I like the interior of this location better than the other one. It has a more open feel, a lot of flat screen TVs, more light, etc. The restroom hallway was not labeled and more than just I tried to go into the kitchen instead. There is not a party room at this location. The service was a little sluggish but not bad at lunch. The overall reason I can only give them three stars is that the wings were so varied. There were big ones, medium ones and small ones. The big ones did not seem completely done. No matter the size, I had a lot of problems getting the wings snapped apart. I LOVE the Jack Sauce and the Jalapeno Garlic sauce and loved them here too. The Jack Sauce just seemed more runny than it has been at the other location so that could be improved. I will be back but will not get the wings again quite yet. I want them to have a little more experience under their belts.

A great place to have lunch and dinner or just sit at the bar to drink. Big menu and food comes out fast. Even when they are busy.

Great little local Des Moines Chain. Great wings and Beer. Dessert menu was a bit lacking but I really came for wings, so no big issue there.

We all had good food. Social bar food. Wings are delicious. Got jack sauce. A little thick and sticky but good. Need to try some different sauces next next

The hamburgers taste like salisbury steak and their chicken wrap is very bland and plain. Service is slow....it's close to my work so I've been a few times, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to come here.

Ordered 20 wings/2 flavors for Super Bowl pickup. They packaged both Honey BBQ and Mild wings in the same box! Why? It kind of ruined the meal for me as it looked like nearly all of the winds were honey BBQ. To their credit, they had my food ready in 15-20 minutes. Also, they charge $2 extra for drummies, on an already kind of pricey meal.
