Excellent food and wonderful service. We stopped on our way to LA and it was be the best food we ate on the road. Thank you!
We had meat & 2....we got pulled pork & brisket! Was good, hubby wished he got a little more brisket though! Nice little joint! Going back towards the restroom, there was a little bakery....LOTS of goodies!!! We got today's special , buy 2 bars get 3rd free...so far soooo good! They also had cookies, cupcakes & scones. Good place to stop while traveling through...they have a nice downtown shops too!
I love this new BBQ restaurant in Newton! Atmosphere is nice--very clean, simple, open look. It is a great place for a casual lunch or dinner. My recommendation? Try the Brisket sandwich on ciabatta bread with sweet BBQ sauce and a locally-made root beer.

Had another couple of great experiences here after coming back home for vacation. This place still is one of the best americanized chinese restaurants in the midwest!
very good food there with only ten bucks at most. The waitress are nice and very helpful chinese girls. I like the salmon the best

La Cabana Mexican Restaurant

For consistently delicious Mexican food, fast and friendly service, and great value, don't miss one of the best restaurants we have in Newton! Recommend the Pollo con Crema with a Presidente Margarita (rocks, and one is all you need;) and some Xango for dessert! My family has enjoyed La Cabana ever since they opened their doors here in 1999, and we have friends from Des Moines and the Quad Cities who now make a point to dine here when they come to town.
Was in town for a night and decided to check this place out. Great food, fast service (even though the place was pretty busy). Only think I can say is if you are out of town you really have to look out for this place as it is tucked back in to a small shopping center. Would definitely go back!
Not bad not great

Giovanni’s Pizza Restaurant

Reviews:
Giovanni's is my favorite pizza place in Newton! It's a great place for a casual dinner during the week. Being newer to Newton, I've heard the great history of this place from friends and co-workers. While it might not be inviting on the outside (although improvements have been made) the inside has had some nice work done to improve the dining experience. The food is a little expensive, but it's not a chain restaurant and the food is worth it. There are usually great deals during the week nights and they even have some great lunch specials. I love their taco pizza - it reminds me of taco pizza from back home in Minnesota! The staff and management are always friendly and service is prompt.
Giovanni's is a great place to go for a casual night in (or take it to go as we often do). I see this restaurant as a Newton staple and hope that it never changes like past staples have (looking at you Taco John's and Maid Rite). The current owner has made some great interior improvements for your dining experience, don't let the exterior turn you away. It's had its ups and downs over the years, but more often than not, we have had a positive experience. Does the food cost more than Domino's or Pizza Hut? Heck yes, this isn't a chain restaurant. But they do offer some great dine in deals most nights of the week. Their lunch specials are fantastic! The quality and taste is far superior then the cheaper options in town. Our household would rather spend $$ on good food than $ on mediocre food. The management and staff have always been friendly and helpful.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES! Giovanni's family restaurant has been a Newton staple since 1978. Love the pizza , love the atmosphere , love the service!

Pizza Ranch

Reviews:
I am obsessed with pizza ranch. So so so good!! I know it's just a chain, and it isn't like they have local ingredients or artisan chefs or unique flavor combos, but pizza ranch is straight up awesome every single time, not to mention you get a TON of food for your money! I could eat a million cheesy ranch sticks. And not only is there pizza, there are mashed potatoes and waffle fries and fried chicken... I love the cowboy theme and how pizzas are named as such (prairie pizza just kills me), and the decor - it's so sweet and a little cheesy, which just adds to the charm. Don't even get me started on the cactus bread - I dream about that stuff and count down the days til I can eat it again! Coffee with cactus bread is the perfect ending to a meal here. It's not gourmet food or a fine dining experience by any stretch of the imagination, but it IS a totally fun and delicious and delightfully cheesy restaurant. I make a point of going every time I'm in Iowa!
Passing through and stopped here 10 minutes before closing with 3 kids. They went out of their way making us a fresh pie of our choice in addition to the food already out. The fried chicken was great, as were the sides! The staff was exceptionally friendly and the restaurant was so clean, we thought it was new!
My daughter reserved a private party room for her son's 1st Birthday party. Just 10 minutes before our arrival they seated a group of 18 right in the middle of the room we had reserved. We were the pushed into a small corner of the room and half of our group (some of whom traveled more than 3 hours to attend) were forced to be seated in the main dinning room and were not able to participate in most of the party. It was so cramped that the server could not get into the room to serve our food. Management made no apology or concessions, only excuses. Not a place I would ever plan a private party at again!

Great food and service. Everyone was so nice. The restaurant was very clean and the food fresh and delicious.
My fiancée took a bite of her chicken sandwich and it badly burned her mouth. It was obviously not cooled properly and served too quickly after frying. My burger was also extremely hot but she is in terrible pain from the injury to her mouth.
The food was served hot and fresh and the staff was very friendly. It is a little hard to get too, way down the hill, but once you get going the right one this is a great place to stop for a quick bite.

Really, who can't do wings? This place, that's who. My son, who can and does eat anything, was grossed out by his wings doing the breast stroke in a pool of grease on his plate. They lacked flavor to boot. My grilled salmon was adequate though the baked potato looked as though it had sat under a heat lamp for quite a while. We knew better than order the chocolate lava cake but did anyway. It was huge and came with plenty of ice cream, fudge sauce and whipped cream to disguise the fact that it wasn't a true lava cake. Local beer was good and cheap. Bar area was lively but our dining room was too brightly lit, underpopulated and depressing. Good thing we were just passing through; the same could be said for those greasy wings.
big portions, friendly servers, well seasoned food...comfortable atmosphere....solid place.

Average food for a steakhouse chain. Excellent service! Was busy when we got there. 30 minute estimated wait for a table of two, but the wait was enjoyable. Interesting decor. Steak was cooked perfectly to order, sweet potatoes are to die for!!!
Great steakhouse with a friendly staff and cool decor. It's the place you eat with your family when they are in town, as the menu offers plenty of choices. We had a party of thirteen, and everyone wanted variations on the menu items. The waitress was patient and the cooks delivered ALL the requests. Now that is awesome! The burgers were huge, the steaks tender, and the expected cinnamon butter was smooth and delicious. The only thing that wasn't great was the fries, if I could do it over, I would get another one of their 10+ side choice.
Amazing service here. Their bread and butter is similar to Texas Roadhouse. Great prices for amazing food. Worth the 3 hour trip for me!

Perkins Family Restaurants

I-80 Hwy 14
Newton, 50208
Reviews:
This is your typical Perkins. The food is ok, but it's nothing like your grandma's homemade breakfast. The service was a little slow, and some people had to wait almost 20 minutes to get their drinks. Luckily, it wasn't that bad for us.
The food was really good and super fast. Not the healthiest but it was affordable and tasted great. The service I got at this location was also really good. I have no complaints other than the restroom was a little on the dirty side, but other than that if you are in the area and want some yummy affordable food then this is the spot.
This is fairly typical diner food served by exceptionally brilliant waitstaff with a true care and appreciation for the art of waiting on tables. It is rare that the kindness and love for one's occupation can shine so clearly through a platter of pancakes and sausage. We stopped here on a road trip and didn't want to leave. If you love America, eat at Perkins!
