Terrible for Starbuck's business High coffee quality (think Blue Bottle but in Iowa) Excellent surroundings perfect for lounging with a good book Jealous much, competitors? Absorb the quiet atmosphere with a hint of Jazz in the background Virtually the best place to hang out Awesome pastries and snacks even for your furry friend Hurry to your local Java House only to relax Outstanding Ghirardelli White Chocolate Mocha Frappe, a sweet dreamy drink Underrated by some So-so service but I guess it depends on who serves you and their level of happy Enough said.

Love this place. Love the coffee; the atmosphere and the staff. We always come here and the downtown one whenever we visit from Los Angeles! Our fav - almond milk latte! Had it twice today it was soo good

I really like this coffeehouse. There's lots of seating and the drinks are delicious. I almost always order the Blueberries & Cream (no whip!) latte and it's just the right amount of bitter and sweet. Some of the coffee drinks I order most places are just so sweet it's almost like drinking dessert! Parking has never been a problem - the lot is pretty big. The only thing I've noticed every time I've been here is you almost feel guilty if you're trying to have a personal conversation with someone...it's that quiet! Not a "chatty" coffeehouse, definitely a "working" coffeehouse. Or maybe my social hour is off compared to the rest of the world's timeframe?

I like the coffee, it's amazing. The atmosphere is equally so. I think it even might rival or beat out Starbucks (and I'm a Starbucks fangirl :-3) it's super quiet, u can easily find a little hidden spot to call your own and overall perfect for working or just to relax and sip ur latte (breath a bit).

Excellent brewed coffee. I also love the Java Cooler but everyone has their favorite. I agree that they have a different vibe then the downtown location but it's not bad. I've always found the staff to be more than friendly.

They serve up a solid cup of brew here, but as stated elsewhere the atmosphere is just a little lacking as compared to the downtown location. Decent amount of seating and seems to be a good spot to study, though on busy days it can be tough to find a spot to sit. They do drip coffee right, barside and it seems they've got more drip options than other Java locations. Standard, slightly more expensive coffee options ranging from froofy to benign. Pastries are good, but always cost more than you feel they should. Good place to stop if you're in the area. Nothing fancy, but solid brew for your daily fix.

A really top quality coffee joint. Nice staff, fast service and good quality coffee and food. They have plenty space with a small side room, everything is nicely lit and plenty of plugs for laptops. They also have free singer-songwriter music on weekends. My only small hesitation was that it took a fair amount of time to get my food. But... I guess if you want everything made fresh, while you watch, it can take a little bit of time.

Java House is a local coffeehouse in Iowa City. I was there this afternoon to Han out with a friend. Nice place to study, read a book, or meet up with friends. Ordered the tiramisu. It's the best in town. The cacao powder, mascarpone, and the coffee-soaked ladyfingers were all at the right proportion that everything had its distinctive taste but at the same time all complement each other in the mouth. Don't miss out on that tiramisu next time you go!

I'm staring at my empty coffee cup, dreaming of the American Gothic I can no longer get regularly since moving to Chicago. *sigh* Good thing I make a point of stopping by almost every trip back. American Gothic, you will be mine.

It's good (hot) coffee (the iced is NOT), and I like the cappuccinos, but the lattes are mediocre at best and way overpriced. Also, the wi-fi is spotty and kicks you off a lot (my friend was just complaining about that today, and I thought maybe it was just me).

Same great Java House products as you expect elsewhere, but yet somehow, just not as good as the downtown location. And the atmosphere is really pretty sad, especially when compared to the downtown location. Really, I prefer the downtown location. But, if you need to pop in for a quick cuppa, then this place would do in a pinch. Honestly, if you want the real coffee-house experience, you know what I'm going to say: Downtown Location.

Good coffee, great atmosphere. Didn't have a chance to try any of the lattes or espresso drinks, but the American Gothic roast is pretty good, and brewed with the pour-over drip method, which I always appreciate. Will have to visit again next time I'm in Iowa City to maybe earn that 5th star.

Great coffee. Definitely the best, but brewing each cup as you order does make things slow. Free WiFi.

Exceptional coffee and environment, be ready to pay for it though

Great coffee and espresso. Relatively easy to find a table and great location next to Core Fitness. Staff is patient and friendly. Pastries are good, but can be slightly overpriced for what you're getting. Java Perks is great and you can quickly earn free coffee and espresso drinks if you're a regular!

Honestly, this place is one of the rare places I can find authentic coffee drinks in Iowa City and nearby areas. The bartenders always do a professional job. I love their tiramisu cake. Sometimes, I just stopped by to buy a tiramisu without any drink. The atmosphere inside looks nice and comfortable, but the furniture is kind of old and dusty. The cashiers sometimes are unwelcoming, acting as if they knew everything and always were right. And be cautious! Their coffees (except the Lattes and Mochas) are relatively too strong compared to other places, which make you head to the toilet right away. However, if you're a coffee connoisseur, just ignore my warning.

Had a coffee date here with 2 friends yesterday afternoon. We all drank their iced coffee. They offer nice places both inside and out to sip and chat. While the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting the coffee is average. They offer a wide range of coffee drinks and some pastries. My iced coffee was very average and plain. It was well made but lacked depth of flavor and interest in taste. A good place to study or catch up but not to have a coffee experience.

Good place to do homework. Not as crazy as the downtown location, which is good because I don't care for crowds.
