Love this place. They have the best Mongolia Beef I have ever eaten. Their vegetables are always fresh and tasty. They are cooked just right a little crisp but cooked. Rice is never dry. Meet is tender. Yum yum yum

Outstanding. Can't believe I've lived 3 miles from this place n never heard of it to I looked at ELP. Fast, hot food. Awesome fried rice - not the usual bland stuff . We had pot stickers, egg rolls. Sesame ckn, Mongolian beef, and crab Rangoon all for about $30 including delivery fee. The best part is that their website actually works and has a super easy menu to order directly from online or through your phone. I called after I put my order in and one minute later they had it and went was processed. Highly recommend this place we will be back many times!

I couldn't post this without selecting at least 1 star....they don't deserve any!!!! When I ordered for delivery they didn't say how long it would take. It ended up taking 2 hours $!!! I called so many times and they couldn't get a hold of the driver, didn't call me back, etc. Then, we see that our order was wrong. I call again and they tell me it will take an hr to get steamed rice. Are you kidding me?!?!?!

Son loved it, orange chicken, but I thought the cashew chicken was pretty ho-hum. Agree with other comments on the crab rangoon kind of blah. I think it needed to fry longer, though. Delivery was fast and came really hot.

I wish I could review the food, but I can only review the service. I called to order delivery to my hotel room, and was placed on hold immediately. After waiting a few minutes, I gave my order to a man who seemed very confused. He asked me to hold for another 3 minutes, while I heard someone else in the background taking another order. The phone was then picked up by an extremely rude woman, who shouted at me. I explained to her that I had already placed an order with someone else, and she said that he didn't write it down. So I gave her my order again, and explained I wanted the Chicken with Garlic sauce Szechuan style, as denoted on their menu which they left in the lobby of my hotel. She screamed at me that this is the same as Szechuan chicken, which is a different item on the menu. I told her to cancel my order and let her know that I would be giving her a bad review for her extremely poor and rude service. Here's an idea: if you can't take an order over the phone, then sign up for online ordering. It's 2014.

Fast delivery and very good food. I ordered the curry chicken with onions. The food exceeded my expectations. The curry was spicy, the pea pods were crunchy, the onions aromatic. I ordered a large and had plenty to save for later. My cohorts ordered french fries, which we all agreed were too salty and soggy. Stick to the traditional Chinese fare for a delightful meal with plenty to share.

Good quality food at very low prices. The place is clean, and you can see right into the kitchen. The atmosphere is OK but the proprietors are usually buzzing around with deliveries, etc.

We had delivery from ChengsGarden Last night- I still think they have some of the best fried dumplings I've ever had! Had the orange chicken and it could have been a little spicier but still very good. Hot and Sour soup was Spicy and Really good. Crab rangoons also very good. And they deliver So Fast!!!

Super fast delivery! Ordered 5 meals, fries, and some extras got to my apartment in 25 minutes and it was snowing! The bean curd was so delightful, perfectly prepared and killer sauce, veggies great too! They even brought us a couple calendars no charge! I love this place! I'll keep the orders coming!

It took 45 minutes for delivery and the food was good but not great. The egg drop soup was not my favorite. I don't like the broth thickened at all. It reminds me of gross things. I like a more natural broth. The fantail shrimp were doughy and the actual shrimp itself was tiny but the flavor was good. The egg rolls would have been amazing if they were crispy. And the crab rangoon was good. Cashew chicken, General Tsao chicken, shrimp with broccoli and the chicken fried rice were all super yummy!

Eh, not for me. When I called to place my order I was a bit skeptical because they didn't take my name or phone number, just took my order, my cc info and my address and then abruptly hung up. However they arrived at my door with my order, phew! We ordered crab rangoons, Szechuan beef, general tso's chicken and combo lo mein. The chicken was quite spicy and was the best dish in the bunch, the other two were pretty bland. The crab rangoons were okay, the sauce it came with was a bit odd tasting..(but I do come from an Asian family who makes really amazing crab rangoons, so I guess I can't complain) Food was delivered very quickly though! May give this place one more shot and get more of the "typical Chinese fast food" dishes.

Nope. Not for me. First, let's keep in mind I'm not a huge Chinese food lover. That said, I have been to many. Being from LA, there a a zillion Chinese joints all over. Food was no where as good. Greasy, cold. Had the orange chicken which was served with white rice and sauce on the side. Where were the onions and bell peppers?! The chicken was a tiny piece of meat with a bunch of nasty thick greasy breading. Gross. Shared a Pu Pu Plate with hubby. Yukky. Meats were cold and over cooked. House fried rice was also cold and hard. Nope, never coming back here. There must be an actual Chinese restaurant SOMEWHERE in Des Moines that has actual good Chinese food! **I'm open to suggestions if anyone has ideas.** I have been searching for a good Chinese and a good indian restaurant, no luck as of yet, but I'm still hopeful!! Service. Also cold and effortless. I found the lady taking our order to be rude and not very helpful answering menu questions. Place was empty. Should have taken a clue, but seeing some of the other reviews, I thought I would give it a go. Not happy I did. Definitely not going back. Not worth it.

For what this place is (fast food Chinese), it is worth a visit (or a call). Miles above Panda Express, they make the food fresh in front of you and are happy to accommodate special requests. $7.65 for a dinner combination with fried rice and an egg roll...the portions are more than enough. The only thing I wish they did was have descriptions for more of their dishes available (what exactly is empire pork?) online or in the restaurant. All in all, this is a nice restaurant to grab some quick Chinese food.

Great prices! I'm very limited in what I can order from places, particularly Asian cuisine which typically has soy sauce or other sauces which are not gluten free. I have ordered fried rice here multiple times and asked for no soy sauce, which was honored each time I've ordered. We have ordered multiple dishes for carryout and it was ready very quickly with no problems. Portions are very nice, and the staff is pleasant. Very standard menu, but great for a quick, inexpensive dinner.

I've eaten here twice. The food is great, with large portions and reasonable prices. Their store is clean and well lit, and you can see straight into the kitchen if you're concerned about how the food is prepared. I used their online ordering to get delivery on a separate occasion, unfortunately if you plan on tipping with a card, you have to do so online, fortunately, delivery is quick. If you want your food spicy, you'll probably need to ask for hot sauce, or provide your own.

I've traveled a fair amount of the U.S. and my holy grail is good "Chinese" take out that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. I stopped in on a Saturday eve around 7pm. the restaurant was empty of patrons, but the phone was hoppin'. That gave me plenty of time to look over the menu. when the phone died down, the gal running the front counter asked for my order.. very friendly..no pressure. I ordered hot and sour soup for one, pot stickers (fried dumplings), and Sichuan chicken. togo within 10 minutes my order came up and I was on my way home. the dumplings and dipping sauce were delicious. the dumpling skins were a bit doughy and thick, but the flavor and consistency of the filling we're garlicky and finely ground enough to more than make up for that. loved these pot stickers! the hot and sour soup was a full pint and came with a bag of crispy noodles - a rarity these days unless you're at a buffet. the soup was incredibly savory, but tended toward 'hot'/ peppery and less towards sour. Unfortunately, this seems to be the new norm for hot and sour soup everywhere I go. The entree of Sichuan chicken was very plentiful, nice heat, great flavor, but by the time I made my way thru the pot stickers and soup, I only ate a small chunk of it. can't wait to finish it all off tomorrow! So, having eaten my fair share of 'American Chinese' food and now expecing mediocrity at every turn, Cheng's Garden was a breath of fresh air. Will I order from here again? Absolutely...but for pick up not delivery. The kitchen staff seemed very in control but the delivery end of things appeared chaotic. My ONLY reason for 4 stars was the lack of sour in the hot and sour soup. I'll be back.

The food is very flavorful. The orange chicken is really spicy. The crab Rangoons are not bad, six in a serving is good to share. A bit pricey. If you are eating in don't expect actual silverware, everything is plastic and in styrophome plates and containers. Overall good food!!

Got take out here and ordered the Mongolian beef combo, sesame chicken combo, and crab rangoons for lunch. It comes with chicken fried rice and an egg roll. The fried rice was okay, and the mongolian beef combo left much to be desired. There was barely any beef! It was mainly all vegetables with thin slices of beef here and there. Don't get me wrong, we love our vegetables and don't mind having them, but the star of the dish is the beef and sadly, there wasn't much! The sesame chicken, on the other hand, was delicious. Next time I come here I'll have to order the sesame chicken or try something else.

This is the worst Chinese dining experience of my life. Very rude staff. The worst chicken fried rice I've ever tasted. Expensive. No chicken in my chicken fried rice. Steer clear of this nasty mean spirited place.

Pretty delicious food, delivered to our door in ELEVEN MINUTES last night. During a blizzard. During the Super Bowl. The Triple Delight brown sauce is really tasty.

The short: As far as reasonably priced Chinese take-out goes, this is a solid choice. The long: We ordered a ton of food for delivery and it was here fast. I ordered the House Fried Rice; traditional recipe with chicken, shrimp, beef, and veggies. I normally don't get fried rice but because this was so good I may rethink my go-to choice. I sampled the Curry Chicken and Bean Curd Mixed Vegetables which my friends ordered and both were good. Sometimes tofu is not prepared properly and is entirely too mushy so I always hesitate ordering it. The bean curd here is deep fried cooked just how I like it; this would be my choice if I was in the mood for a meatless option. The curry chicken had some good spice and lots of delicious onions; definitely a contender. Can't wait to order from here again, but next time I'm going to give them the true test and order the General Tso's.

Got carry-out today for a hangover lunch with a couple friends. Cheng's Garden definitely did the job. I really liked this place because the food was extremely fresh. The chicken wasn't re-fried and dried out, it was clearly freshly fried and covered in some tasty sauce. The rangoons were hot, fresh, and crispy. The lo mein noodles were hot and really delicious and loaded with chicken. They definitely don't skimp here. 10/10 would order again without hesitation.

Fast delivery and good food. It reminds me of hyvee. They charge $2 delivery fee which is not bad. Large portion for the price. You will have leftovers. I wish they had a menu online but I took a pic for everyone:)

I love this place's food. I've ordered many times and generally they are prompt! Tonight I ordered food at 6:45 pm. I understand that nights can be busy, but by 8:15 I was wondering where my food was. I called, and the woman who answered told me she'd call me back. She did, and said they were really busy and my food would be another hour, and then hung up. I called back to cancel my order, because it was 8:30 at night and I was going to be getting ready for bed at 9:30. She ignored my request and said that the driver was on route. It takes 15 minutes at most to drive to my apartment - he showed up 30 minutes later, at 9 pm. I felt terrible, because the delivery man is always very kind and quick - but I had to tell him that I had cancelled my order. I know it wasn't his fault - I wish I could have tipped him while still canceling my food! So - moral of the story - you might have to wait a while for your food!

  • J S.

The food is good, however the service is crap. Language barrier when calling in order for delivery, had to repeat myself and spell street name several times, wasn't confident order was correct when I hung up. Delivery took over an hour and realized after driver left, he either over charged me (no receipt in bag) or did not give correct change - looked at menu, did the math, and I paid $16 for an order that cost $13. If I chose to eat there again, I will do carry out and order in person in restaurant.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
