Matt M. took us over to the Salty Dog watch the "NFL Championship Game". Nice neighborhood bar. Great food, great service, plenty of TV's to watch the game. I agree, the Char-Buff wings were great. definitely will order them again next time. I also had the steak Philly and enjoyed it as well. I know everyone's opinion of a Philly widely varies, but it was large, had good flavor, and plenty of toppings. Better than the average bar. They also had a nice beer selection. I gave this a 5 star rating, that is comparing this neighborhood bar to other bars. It is a bar and they serve "bar food", good bar food.

Best wings in Council Bluffs/Omaha. Period. Get them char-buffed. You can thank me later. I haven't had much else on the menu, those who have dined with me have had positive comments about the burgers. The set-up for a sports bar is done right, plenty of TVs. Full bar with a few craft beers on-tap. Service tends to be slow. Friendly enough... haven't had an order placed wrong... just slow. It is really my only "knock" on the place.

We decided to try out the Salty Dog on a Saturday evening, knowing the prime rib was the special for the night. We arrived later than planned, about 7:30PM, and the place was packed. We grabbed the last empty table in the place. The music was loud enough that it made holding a conversation nearly impossible, but then again it was 7:30 and it is a bar! Service was outstanding for as crowded as they were. My drink was never empty the entire time we were there. I ordered the prime rib and our server recommended the buffalo chicken soup as my side instead of the salad. I really wanted to save my appetite for my steak, but went ahead and ordered it with full intention of taking it home for lunch the next day. Made a big mistake...I tasted it. OMG it was so delicious. I kept trying to put my spoon down, but kept picking it back up and taking another bite...until it was gone! YUM! I ordered my prime rib med-rare, but it came out medium. It was a large cut of meat, not overly fatty. It wasn't the best piece of prime rib I've had, but some of that could be attributed to the fact it was over cooked for me. It also could have used a little more seasoning. The steak is served with a baked potato and grilled Texas toast. I got the smaller cut of prime rib, and still had more food than I could finish. The Salty Dog is a nice place to go for a meal or a just a drink. It's definitely steps above bar food, and the employees are very welcoming and offer excellent service. Next time you're in CB I'd recommend giving this place a try. I will definitely be back.! Try.The.Soup.

Typical shitty over salted and fried Bar food! Nothing to see here. Don't understand why they have such a high rating. Must be the locals.

Great place after visiting the zoo, great wings and taco salad, which is actually in a taco bowl! A little bit long waiting for our food to be prepared though

Ok - never write reviews - always live in cities with too many pointless repetitive reviews but Omaha seems the exception. exploring my new city and gave Salty a try. It's true - char wings are amazing, the service is spectacular-special thanks to Shaye - will be back many times - I think this might be a "craving" relationship - it's that good

  • Jacob K.

The wings were fantastic, the service was a little slow, and the beer was good. That is a brief summary of my experience here. I would like to emphasize that the wings were world alteringly good. You should definitely try this restaurant if you are in the area

Probably the worst service I have had in awhile. Plenty of wait staff, just incompetent. Great wings but it was so difficult to order drinks or even get our tab. If I come back here it will most likely be via takeout.

I went to this bar thinking it was like all the other bars I had been to and I've been to lot of bars. I was wrong. It was clean it smelled like an aunt was in the kitchen cooking up something good! TV's everywhere!!! Now to my favorite part...the staff. I cannot say enough good things about the staff. If our regular server was busy one of the other two would come by and check on us. I never once had an empty drink. Our main guy...wish I could remember his name...he has dark hair and a beard was AWESOME!!! I repeatedly let them all know I appreciated the great service. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I'm going to make sure I go back there just because of the great food and service!

Great experience! We were only passing through and found the Salty Dog on Yelp. Travis, our waiter, was very friendly and helpful when it came to the best foods to order! I recommend the chicken wings. Some of the best wings I've had in a long time! And if you're looking for cheap and yummy tacos, go here on Mondays for $1 tacos and $3 Mexican beers ! Keep it up Salty Dog staff!

  • James D.

The charbuff wings are absolutely amazing here probably my favorite in this area. I think $12 is a little steep for 10 wings but I pay it because they are finger licking good!

  • Matt M.

Went here for the first time last night and we were pleasantly surprised. Started with the fried pickles - not great but no terrible either. Ordered a burger and the char-buff wings. The burger and onion rings were very good and the wings were outstanding. The staff was great also. We will be back soon.

I love this place. The servers & bartenders are always super nice. The wings here are awesome. They have good daily specials like chicken-fried chicken or Reuben sandwiches made with house-smoked corned beef. Plus, you can watch any game on over a dozen big screens.

Can't say anything about the late night scene, but for a meal or a drink when you are near the casinos, this place can't be beat. It has an unassuming strip mall exterior, but inside you can really feel the warmth. Definitely NOT a dive bar. Everything I've tried on the menu has been fantastic and freshly prepared; you can't go wrong with whatever you pick. They make most of the items from scratch. The buffalo chicken soup is my hands-down favorite - highly recommended. Friendly owners and staff round out the package. Definitely stop in if you are in the area and don't feel like the usual chain fare.

Definitely try the wings!! Can't go wrong. The atmosphere is great for a local pub. The service received from Shaye sealed the 5 stars. OUTSTANDING SERVICE

Some friends of mine told me about this place and the wings. I've tried them and been hooked since. Every time I'm in CB/Omaha I eat here. The wings are not the only thing good the people and watching games here is great. Don't forget about the prime rib too.

I was in Omaha for a weekend long Bachelor party and was not sure what was in store. We were looking for somewhere to go before the Concert at the Stir on Friday and we decided to go to the Salty Dog because they were offering a shuttle service. I was not sure what to expect when we got to the strip mall which it is in but when we got inside I did not expect what I saw. The place is spacious with lots of seating and a wonderful bar. The televisions were outstanding and my first thought was I would love to come here for a sporting event. We sat down and ordered a round of drinks from the bartender, who was very nice and not to mention pretty easy on the eyes. We decided to order up some grub and were we in for a pleasant surprise. The food was outstanding and I can not say enough about the CharBuff Wings. We had so much fun at The Salty Dog we ended up there on 3 different occasions that weekend. It is a great place to grab something to eat and if you are looking for a place to have some late night fun I would definitely check them out. This place is a home run!!!

Youcan start with the pick 2,its 6 wings and your choice of a few other appitisers, and wow is it good, and finish with the Shaved prime rib philly sandwhich, I garentee you will be. Well satisfied, they have a full menu and the staff is polite and friendly, you won't be disappointed with anything if you give this place a try

  • Jenna M.

My fellow Yelpers got my back again! Food was good (tried the wings as suggested and they are as good as everyone says)! Super good value too! The burgers were big and reasonable. The service was decent considering it was busy. We were they at night and it got kind if crazy, but it's a bar so it's kind of expected.

Went on a Sunday they were very busy. I noticed that each day they have a deal... $3 cheeseburgers etc Sunday was all day happy hour on drinks. I ordered the bbq bacon cheeseburger. About a 4 star. Very good but not the best. Shrimp scampi... very good and unexpected item for a bar. Seasoned really well. Nooooooww.... the chargrilled wings were beyonnnnnnnnnddddddddddd delicious! Omg. The best wings that I've tasted in my life... and I am a huge wing fan. Ranch and blue cheese dressing/sauce are homemade and excellent. The waiter said everything is homemade here. Service was great. They messed up on a couple minor things but fixed them. The guy who served and was also the bartender... was extremely nice. I was a little leary about bringing my kids... but it was not a bad environment.... just a mom and pops buffalo wild wings kinda place.

I have been hearing about Salty Dog's wings for months so I finally broke down and went there with a few friends this past Friday. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in to see a really nice bar, nice TV's all around, and to see it so clean. We walked in and sat at a table and the super nice red-haired bar tender/sever came over and told us the happy hour drink specials so one of my friends and I got a pitcher of Angry Orchard for $9, not bad at all. I ordered char-buff wings with half spicy buffalo and half buffaque, (buffalo and bbq mixed). The wings are $1 a piece so we were hoping they'd be awesome. It says that the Char-Buff wings takes around 20 minutes to come out, but we were completely fine with that. Our food came out in about 20 minutes, as originally stated. The wings were pretty good. I didn't get that char-buff flavor a whole lot that I thought I was going to get. And some of the wings didn't look like it had hardly any char-buff on them at all, so the wings were a tad disappointing. The Spicy Buffalo wings were a tad dry on the outside and it hardly had any sauce on them, but the buffaque wings were pretty good. All in all, the wings were good, but a little disappointing. I will probably give them another chance as I really do want to like the wings here.

Awesome place. Great food and service. Visiting from Colorado and a great place to get a burger, salad, or whatever. I had the prime rib and it was phenomenal.

  • Windy R.

We had the char buffed spicy Buffalo Wild Wings, boneless spicy bbq bites, and mozzarella sticks. Well first of all the motzarella sticks were AWESOME! Very tasty and good cheese to bread ratio. The wing bites were ok but the sause was nothing awesome. Not terrible just not knock you sock off. The charbuffed wings were nicely seasoned and had fairy good texture but slightly greasy. Definitely some of the better wings I have had around town but not the best. As far as atmosphere, we found it super chilly and the fans spinning under lights made for a weird strobe light effect that messed with our eyes. The service was ok. Very courteous and friendly but not particularly attentive. Overall we enjoyed it but much prefer Victory Grill for both food and atmosphere.

Pulling into the parking lot I was a little thrown off (wasn't expecting it to be in a strip mall) but walking in the waitress had menus down right away and she was never polite. The wings are really good as well but the prime rib philly was amazing the meat was fantastic and the bread was soft. The only thing I can say was I wish my wings had more sauce on them but that's probably more my fault for not asking ;). Really did like this place.

  • Shelby B.

After repeatedly hearing how good the wings are here, I finally had a chance to try them out. I must say they are very good. I don't know if they are my favorite in town, but they come in probably at #2, and they alone are worth a return trip. Without Yelp (and Matt M's) recommendations I don't think I would have ever found this place or thought about going in. It sits past some truck stops in a somewhat industrial area of Council Bluffs in an unassuming small strip mall. This is a basic looking bar, with quite a few TVs to watch your favorite game. The staff was very friendly and had no problem taking care of a group of 8 of us. A slight snafu with the separate checks at the end, but it was quickly remedied. Overall this place seemed like a good place to grab a drink and watch the game or meet up with some friends for a bite to eat. Friendly atmosphere and they want you to feel welcome.

The first time I came here I was very impressed with the wings. I heard they were the best in the CB area. They were big, much bigger wings than other restaurants. The number of sauces or flavors is minimal and disappointing. That isa big failure for this place. You can only order wings in batches of 12. I liked them the first time, the second time I went there they were only OK. Not sure I would go back for the wings. I might go back to gawk at one of the barmaids... I am still a BWW fan after going here.

Awesome food for decent money. Lot of screens with sport events. I would definitely recommend this place. Cons: Staff could check on you more often.

A few of us met at the Salty Dog today trying to find the best wings in town. Their Charbuff Wings were very good, with a nice crisp skin but tender meat underneath. Had it with their Blue Cheese sauce with a side of their Ghost sauce. The later had more flavor than I expected while maintaining its immense heat. plenty of screens around with the KU vs UT basketball game, and the Marquette vs Georgetown games on. Beer selection was a normal sports bar variety, but nothing to cheer about and I ended up with a SA Cold Snap. Many of us received the wrong bills at the end, but given it was a large group I can almost forgive that, but mine had two orders of wings and an ice tea. Good wings kept this at four stars despite this though, I'll be back again..

The Salty Dog Bar & Grill at first looks like a dive bar from the outside, located inside a strip mall with the windows completly covered with advertising. Let's be honest, it's all about the food that counts, right? I had The Italian Job and made it a double with fries and a drink. Other than the sandwich came out originally as a single, the server quickly corrected the issue, and the sandwich was hot and tasted delicious. I mean really, how can a double cheeseburger with mozzarella sticks on it be bad? My wife and kids enjoyed it here as well, and they even let my kids pick a free toy each from a box, which made their day. My kids still talk about wanting to go back to The Salty Dog Bar & Grill. We had an amazing meal here, and can't wait to go back.

Finally got to check out Salty Dog last week with a couple of friends -- rough week at work so a dozen wings and a pitcher of Apple Orchard was in order. Right off the bat, I loved the divey feel of this place. Your basic chairs and tables, some games, a few round booths and a bar. It's definitely nice and clean, but it has that great, local watering hole feel. Service was top notch -- our waitress was friendly, asked US if we wanted to split checks (and was happy to do so) and got our drink order right away. Ordered up a dozen wings (char-buff, of course) and because it wasn't terribly busy our waitress said we could do 6 wings in one flavor, six in another. I wanted to try both the Buffaque and the traditional Buffalo, and was thrilled that I got to split the basket. Wings came out a bit later and they were HUGE. Super crispy and very flavorful. I was surprised to find out that I much preferred the Buffaque, but I think the reason I did was simply because Salty Dog doesn't do their Buffalo wings like most places where the Buffalo sauce is dripping off the wings. It was much subtler, but I have to admit that I did want them to be a bit saucier. I was also hoping that the wings had a bit more char on them. They definitely had some grill marks and one or two had even blackness on both sides, but I was hoping that they all would be really charred -- which, for me, is a strong personal preference. Not faulting Salty Dog for less char than I prefer, but perhaps when I go back I'll ask them to put some extra char on them and double-dip the Buffalo wings. Homemade bleu cheese dressing was really good. Much more on the creamy side than on the bitter with delicious chunks of bleu cheese at the bottom -- YUM. Definitely some GREAT wings even if there were a few things I'd want different. When you go to a place and you get a strong sense of the pride they have for their food, their true desire to make good food, it really says a lot. I feel like that's what you get at Salty Dog. $1 a piece seems a bit pricey at first, but then you see these monstrous things and you realize you're in for a treat. Definitely going back when I need a fix of char-buff wings, but I'll order them extra crispy and extra charred!

Had the mother trucker burger and it was cooked just right! yummy!! They were pretty busy for going in at 2:00 but service was still prompt. They have very clean bathrooms and you wouldn't expect the decor at all! Definitely will eat there again!

  • Russ L.

Some of the best wings I've eaten. Great service and they're proud of their food. Great place to relax and watch a game. Bill and Travis are the best. They kept my glass full and the wings coming. Ask for them when you sit down and enjoy the experience!

    (5)
  • Alex H.

Four stars because of the food. Food was exceptional. Dozen spicy buffalo char buff. Get extra sauce, the char buff process turns regular sauce into a peculiar dry seasoning. If those bitches were wet, I'd be there so often they'd have to charge me rent. I'm a big guy, and was full AF after a dozen wings and a shared side of fries. Service and atmosphere; Oh boy, if you didn't know you were in Iowa, you'll figure it out after walking in the irresplendent entry way.

  • Katie H.

This place has the best wings I have ever had. Their charbuff wings are superb. I've had their regular wings as well, but the charbuff are truly special, forcing you to weigh-in on public decency versus outright licking your hands after touching these babies. As a bonus, house-made ranch and blue cheese dressings take these wings over the top. The wings are a little pricey at 12 for $12, but on Wednesdays, I think they are $.70. I tend to pay a little more, though, because the wings we had on a Wednesday night were not as good as usual, probably because of demand. Other good stuff: appetizers, side salads, and the burgers. I think there is a $3 burger night, but I'm not sure which night. Great place to enjoy some fantastic wings and beer.

Excellent wings, decent beer selection, nachos were great as were the jalapeño poppers!

  • Reed N.

I went here solely based on Yelp reviews. As usual... the people did not let me down! The place is known for wings. They are not cheap... $10 a dozen. But everything is made from scratch. The sauce, the dressings... not the chicken. lol And broiling or grilling after saucing wings works. Go for it. Do the spicy Buffalo. If you are a masochist go for the Ghost Pepper sauce. Good luck! Fried cheese curds are a rare treat for me. I ordered them as well and the serving was delicious and generous. Service was fine and sports on TV's were everywhere. This is a cool little place, and I will be back when the wing urge hits me!

Always a good time. Best bar food you will ever have. It's a fun place to watch a game love the pre-game $1 beers until the first score. Good for lunch, dinner, party, play, darts, meet up. It has it ALL!

Good food, service that's what you want from a higher rated yelp find. That's what I got also. It's a bar but the food is really good and fast. Try the trucker burger if your really hungry.

Five stars if only for the great wings. It seems that the owner takes great pride in his bar and it shows. They consistently have fun promotions and it shows. Keep up the great work.

This place is my first stop after traveling into the area. I kick off my trip with their delicious Char-Buff wings and some Guinness of the tap! Everything I've tried on the menu has been good, you can't go wrong with whatever you pick. The bartenders are all great and you can catch just about any sporting event while you eat and enjoy a nice cold drink!!! Definitely worth a stop in if you are in the area and don't feel like the usual chow or if you want a nice change in scenery!

The grilled hot wings were life changing. Order them even if you hate wings. Wow! Also got a side salad which was pretty good too. Staff was nice. Pool tables and lots of TVs. Great place!

Great wings! I've only tried the char-grilled but they were excellent - I will definitely be back for more! Casual, low-key, and pretty dark inside, but really good bar food.

A casual sports-themed bar and grill just a couple stone throws away from Horseshoe Casino, the Salty Dog offers a refreshing take on pub grub. To be honest, I would have never come here if it wasn't for a Yelper meet-up to chomp on some wings. Thanks to Giggy B. for setting it up and Matt M. for suggesting the location. Anyway, I have to say they were some of the best wings I've had in the area. My wings were hefty in size, plenty meaty and covered in "Buffaque" sauce -- basically your typical hot wing sauce mixed with a little sweet barbecue. Not only that, but they charbroil the wings after (I'm assuming) frying them, which adds a nice crispness to the taste. The menu covers all the basics, fries to burgers to BLTs to chicken strips. While most pub grub is more-or-less a glorified kids menu, the Salty Dog manages to take things to a more, well, adult level. Overall, it seems they lean towards made-to-order fresh rather than "let's throw some frozen junk from the Sysco truck in the fryer." I appreciate that. Mike S. said the bloody mary's were slammin' as well.

  • Nate D.

So my review is based of one visit and one menu item, but they did both well. Stopped in on a Sunday night after a long day of driving and needed something to fill me up. The wings sure sounded good, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. Ordered the charbuff wings with bleu cheese, and 20 mins later, they showed up right on schedule. These were some seriously big and meaty wings! They had a very mild flavor, not much sauce, some decent crisp, and the grilling added a great texture and taste. The bleu cheese was also excellent, if a bit on the thin side, but it had plenty of big crumbles in it, so that kinda made up for it. Overall, I'd say they were very good wings. If I had it to do over, I'd ask for them extra crispy/grilled and double sauced, but that's just a personal preference thing. The service was also great and very friendly and attentive. Next time I come through town,I definitely plan to stop in and enjoy the wings even more now that I know how to order!

OK, so let's start with a disclaimer (again). Giving it 4-stars, not for the food, but for the overall experience. Popped in for a "let's go somewhere new and Yelper Matt M. likes it" kind of an evening when I just didn't have it in me to cook. A definite bar-more-than-grill type of atmosphere, where families bring their children and guys get hammered with their mates while popping out periodically for a smoke type of establishment. Not loud, just definitely bar-like. For $12/basket, char-buff wings are exactly what other folks have said - crispy, meaty, tasty, and piping hot fresh. Burgers were so-so. Fried mushrooms also standard fare. $3 iceberg lettuce salad is exactly what it claims to be. I appreciate the have crinkle fries since I think shoestrings are a waste of good potato. Service was attentive - curious, since there seems to be no "you work this zone waitstaff" - but obviously works well for them since we weren't kept waiting long, EVER. Bloody Mary ($5) was good and made better with the addition of a pickle. And the reason for the extra star...ghost pepper dill pickle. Cut in half, a delicious addition to a Bloody Mary or a pre-snack to the wing extravaganza. Just warm enough to persuade you to drink more beer, but not so much that you feel you've burned your face off.

You have to try the buffalo chicken soup. We were part of an 7 person group and had great service. No one had a bad meal and several raved about their meals. I had the Kelly Klein and would definitely order it again. I tried the wings and while they weren't anything I'd leave my wife for, they were unique and very good. The portions were also more than enough to feed one person.

I had heard rave reviews about this place, especially their wings, and after seeing all the great yelp reviews I was excited. We went on a Friday night the beer was pretty cheap. 9 dollars per pitcher, the staff was great and the atmosphere was your typical sports bar. I decided on wings before I got there and for $1 per wing my expectations were high. I did the 12 wing basket of charred wings half bufaque and half spicy buffalo. The wings were large but 3 of the 12 were broken dr sticks that had no meat in them. Still the portion size was great. The sauce was almost non existent and there was basically no char on them. They were just average. Not great but not bad by any means. Certainly disappointing given the fact they are more expensive than any other wing places I've ever visited. 3 stars sums it up because the staff, service, and atmosphere was great and theBeer was cheep. I would probably return again but definitely not for the wings.

We were looking for a place to stop and watch some football while visiting in the area. The Salty Dog is located off the highway in a strip mall. This gives it easy access and free parking which is nice. The windows of the bar are painted garish neon colors with announcements and specials. Upon entering, you see a few booths on the left side, a couple pool tables on the right, and a bunch of tables on the floor. The place kind of reminded me of a VFW hall/bar. The food was standard bar/pub fare, we went for the wings and burgers. The char buff wings were the best thing we ordered, and they were overcooked and dry. Not a dry rub kind of dry, a dry chewy meat kind of dry. The burger and fries aren't even worth a mention. Given the solid Yelp reviews, perhaps my expectations were too high for this place. Guys, it can be so much better than this! Locals seem to love it here though...

So I set up this little thing call WINGOLOCALYPSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (BREATHE)!!!!!!!!!! Which for me was a chance to find the best wings in the local area and drag some poor souls with me to fart blood for a week. Episode 1 was recommended by Matt M., who lobbed this unknown grenade into my lap. I'd actually seen the place before but in passing as I don't go out of my way to go to bars unless I'm needed to herd up drunks. Right! So I pull up, enjoying the drizzle the early afternoon offered me and the place seemed unassuming. Once inside, I realized the sunglasses needed to come off sooner because this place is dark. They have so much window paint on the windows that sunlight could not penetrate the large room that this place is. So I blindly wandered around and found a little spot to call mine. I marked it with my spore and held it off by flashing my war feathers at people, as D'Brickashaw, the Food-loving T-Rex, stole all the sugar packets. Soon the rest of my party showed up and menus were eyed. I glanced at the menu but I was here for wings. Yea sure...the place itself was nice and spacious and the staff seemed cool and blah blah blah, hotwings are God, must obey. First and foremost: this review will be about the wings, as the place was nice and the staff didn't drool as they talked. They were all really nice folks that I'd like to give puppies and kittens to. The establishment and it's droogs get a pass. Now...the wings. They have them with ghost peppers. They have #&$€!&÷£ Ghost pepper hotwings. Do you understand me!?!? (He yells loudly, while staring at his cat) GHOST PEPPER HOTWINGS. That alone is The Moist Maker for me. But...the big step to being bold enough to bring the heat, is can you bring it without the sacrifice of flavor? Some places can't. Some places have their uber hots that taste overly tangy or aren't hot at all. Or they give them a dry dust and it's powder in my mouth and I paid too much darn money for second rate lepers!! They say it's a 20 minute wait for the order because the menu says "good things take time" or something. So we wait as Mike S. arrives to put their Bloody Mary to the test. Read his review. Matt ended up having them make some sort of monster burger amalgamation that defies science and probably needed to be killed with fire or stomach acid, since he would inhale it shortly after getting it. Will S and I went for wings. Read his review...this is me time. About 20 minutes later...they arrived. First, size:(but size doesn't matter, Giggy...shut up, knave) They were plump, meaty wings. Probably some of the biggest looking things I'd ever want to put in my mouth...what?? Nevermind. Get your mind out the gutter. But seriously, these were nice sized and looked pretty sharp. Pass on first looks. The bouquet was good too. Some tingle from the heat but it still smelt like a good thing was gonna happen to me. Now the taste. Yea...they hit the balance. I got them with the Char-buff outside, for texture and flavor and the sweet spot was nailed. It had the heat and the flavor that hotwings are born to have. Coupled with the homemade Bleu cheese (amazing with good sized curds) and bollocks...the bar has been set. A juicy, flavor rich, hawt, hotwing. Bliss. So yes...these have set a high bar for the search for the best hotwing. Man...did it ever. It was nirvana. So can I recommend this place for the other bar pub food they have...I dunno...sure. They got fried pickles. Can I recommend it for my fellow Wingaholics?? Hell yea. Put them in your facehole. Eat up, Minions!!!!

Food was great. I had the chargrilled wings w fried pickles. Service was so so. Great if you're a regular. Sat down at the bar and in a minute or two later a regular couple (knew them by name) sat down beside me. They had a picture of beer and 2 glasses before i was even asked if I needed anything - like a menu or a drink! I was sitting right next to them! Finally ordered and got food but shockingly I had to ask for a refill - I'm sitting at the bar! I'd say go for the food if you're not in a hurry -unless they know you by name...

The first thing that stands out when you walk up is the artwork they have on the glass which is pretty cool. The service is good and has excellent staff. They are helpful and charismatic. The drink selection has a wide range and good prices. What makes this place 5 star worthy tlhowever is the phenomenal food. There are a lot of options to choose from that appeals to most people. I absolutely love the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger. I know it sounds a bit iffy but it also has something about it that lures you in to try it. Once you do I doubt you will regret it. It's my favorite burger of all time.

I had never been here and would not have stopped here if not for Yelp. I really don't have a need to come to Council bluffs and since my illegal Red Light Cam issue, I tend to stray away. I had a hard time getting here as even Google does not know were it is. They had it in what is actually an empty field. It is actually very easy to get to. Get off at the 24th St exit, sharp left and then it is about a 1/2 mile North on the right. the fully painted front windows advertising the upcoming parties (currently an '80s theme night, "Great Scott, Marty! and the 5th year Anniversary) I did not know anybody as I walked in and asked for the Yelpers and was quickly shown the table and asked if I needed a drink. Boy did I. I immediately made the choice to have a Bloody Mary at Yelpy meatup events. They were getting wings. Upon my query if the 'Mary's were filled with flair he stated it was like that at their other location, but not there. I ordered my 'Mary spicy and salted. Man it was good. Not a heavy pour and a few olives were perfect. While not the most fancy drink it was just right. Everybody's food looked great! The wings were actually quite large and I noticed the grill marks on them and thought that was a great touch and uniquity. I then saw a sandwich that included chicken strips and pizza rolls! Kudos to the kitchen for rolling with the people's choice of foodstuff. I will give the curds a shot next time. I enjoyed meeting new friends and am hooked on Yelp, the only social media that focus' on what I love to do.

Love the food and always cooked well to order. price is on point for quality of food. Place is dark and don't feel the windows need the pain stick advertising(makes the place look dumpy from the outside and dark inside) and heard this similar problem from others as well. That is the only reason I didn't give it five stars. P.S. char-buff wings are on point and don't forget to try the Holy Mother Trucker!

Stopped for lunch. We are road tripping with our 3 kids so need quick, nothing fancy, NOT fast food and independently owned. The Salty dog fit the bill.... The windows are all painted and it looked really like a dive bar but interior was very clean and totally fine for us. It took 23 minutes to get our lunch entrees, but the cheese curd app came out quickly... The kids were not psyched on their corn dogs (little mini dogs) and pizza rolls were a bit spicy... We would return.... Our server Jessica did a fine job and overall a good lunch. My husband said the wings were really good and meaty!

Every now and then when I lay my pretty head down to sleep, grilled hot wings dance around in my head. Damn you Salty Dog for haunting my dreams. It's an eight hour drive for me to get to you. Must...have...grilled...wings...NOW! The Salty Dog Bar & Grill, is located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Council Bluffs is located right outside of Omaha, Nebraska. If you find yourself in either cities or playing at the Horseshoe Casino, then you need to stop in for some mouthwatering char-grilled wings! You don't know what you're missing until you have your wings finished off on the grill. The wings alone are worth 5 stars in my book. The Salty Dog is located in a strip mall and if you pass by you may notice it as a local bar, well because that's what it is, but this bar has food worth stopping in for. Wisconsin Cheese Curds. Fried Pickles. CharBuff wings. Peanut Butter Bacon Burger. Prime Rib Philly. Tilapia Fish n Chips. Even Gizzards, if you're into that. One night we were there, they ran out of Corona, which was a bit odd for a bar, but I wasn't bothered because I was drinking a wheat off tap. My friend on the other hand, was in shock. It was as if you just told an oversized child that his puppy just died. Before going in, check out their daily specials online. As of now, Wednesday is "Wingsday", which means 60 cent wings from 3 pm to close. If you happen to go in on another day/night, who cares what the special is and do yourself a favor: Order the grilled wings!

Most amazing char wings I've had in a long time! Juicy, large, and mostly wing spicy experience that must be repeated soon! Love the ghost pepper! Great taste with an addictive hotness! I like that the jalapeno poppers give me a cool down! Love it to the fullest!

After perusing the photos for Salty Dog Bar and Grill, I HAD to give it a try. We went during a NFL game so it was really busy, even though I thought we would be there after the dinner rush. The parking lot is an OK size, but I feel like it would fill up quickly on game days. I was lucky to snag a spot after someone left--I had already circled around once. We ordered the crowd favorite charred wings- which were excellent. The 20 min (or in our case 30 min) wait was well worth it- they had a substantial amount of meat on the bone, they werent dry, the skin was crispy, and the flavoring was beyond awesome. We also did a order of fish and chips with onion rings (the fish was meh) and I got the standard cheeseburger, which I thought was the above average bar burger. It was really smoky in there (from the food not cigs) very loud, and overall a very excitable crowd for the games. Def a fun place to check out if your favorite team is playing, but dont expect a quiet meal or date.

9A small dive bar located in a mini strip mall. Great place for lunch and some fat boy food as I like to call it. I went with the char buff wings and fried pickle spears with a side of blue cheese and buffalo sauce to dip (excellent buffalo) washed it down with a freshly squeezed ipa beer and a shot of John Powers whiskey. Jordan behind the bar was great and my new buddy Brett sitting near by bought me a shot. Good spot for a lunch break.

The wings held up to their reputation. We got the grilled hot wings with both ranch and blue cheese dressing. I loved the blue cheese. The wings were amazing. My 9 yo had the burger slider kids meal which he loved. Daughter also had a side of mashed potatoes which looked amazing and she raved about. This will be our new place for wings--for sure! And the service was terrific!!

I thought we'd pretty much have the place to ourselves, since it was really too late for lunch and too early for dinner when we arrived. Gosh was I wrong, it was packed. We ordered the shrimp scampi, charbuff wings and burgers all around. The scampi was delicious, flavorful with lots of garlic and cheese. Oh and it was served with dinner rolls which were perfect to dip into the garlic cheese sauce. The charbuff wings were charred to delicious perfection and were served with homemade dressing. We tried both ranch and blue cheese. Let me tell ya, homemade sauce makes a huge flavor difference -both were fresh and very tasty! Our burgers were also good, but I will admit I loved the appetizers more than the burger. I was pleased to be able to order real cheddar cheese on my burger. The kid's meals consisted of two slider size burgers and they loved them, although they weren't fans of the smiley fries. Server guy was awesome and genuinely friendly. I really enjoyed my meal and will definitely go back again and again!

Matt M. took us over to the Salty Dog watch the "NFL Championship Game".

My fellow Yelpers got my back again! Food was good (tried the wings as suggested and they are as good as everyone says)! Super good value too! The burgers were big and reasonable.

Look for shay ! There is no missing this insanely beautiful vibrant redhead of a woman. She knows how to pour drinks and talk shit. Absolutely the best service I've come across I'm months.

Looked like a quasi "biker bar" when we pulled up; found it to be very clean, friendly with knowledgeable staff, good to great food. We will stop again as we travel from Lincoln, NE to IA.

Some of the best wings I've eaten. Great service and they're proud of their food. Great place to relax and watch a game. Bill and Travis are the best. They kept my glass full and the wings coming. Ask for them when you sit down and enjoy the experience!
