I tried the Cajun chicken lunch size salad today. It was pretty good, but on the smaller size (I know I got the lunch size, but this was almost side salad size). They also don't do light ranch if you're into that. The group next to us ordered pizza that looked pretty amazing, but I can't speak for the taste. I'll have to try it out soon! It is loud, so be prepared.

What a nice place too stop for lunch. Very nice atmosphere nod great service. Only been too the one in Ames, I think the one in Ames has a better layout, and the Clive one has great service.

The atmosphere is a sports bar and the menu is appetizers, sandwiches, salads, and pizza. I tried the all meat supreme 9" pizza. It was great! All kinds of meat plenty of cheese and not too much sauce. The 9" was perfect for lunch. I would definitely try them again when I'm back in Des Moines

I went to UNI. I felt like this was the restaurant and pizza I loved in CF but the atmosphere is a little cleaner and newer and a little more "grown up." This is a fun date. It's loud and there's TVs and high tops and the bar is great. The pizzas are what you're here for, though. My classic favorite is a sausage pizza (which I don't order anywhere else), but I tell you what, I've tried the grinder pizza and the buffalo chicken pizza too and there are just too many good choices. Forego the sides, there's nothing special about any of those, but don't forget to order a pepsi with grenadine, and you are set.

College / Sports Bar feel. Food is good and nice selection of beers and cocktails however the staff is not engaged. It was a challenge to get service. probably would have had another 2 drinks or so if they would of waited on us. It's close to my house so I will give it another try.

I am a sucker for the OP. This one however did not please me. My favorite thing to get there is buffalo chicken pizza. They did not have that at this one. I got chicken strips instead and the breading literally fell off. The one in cedar falls is the best. The one in Waterloo is 2nd runner up. It's where my dad grew up so he takes us there a lot. But I'm only basing this off of one visit to the one in Des Moines.

Great food! Fun atmosphere! The restaurant does get loud during sporting events, but a great place to stop by for lunch or after work!

My first visit to the restaurant, and it was a great experience, from the food to service. Also had great appetizers. Very friendly people! If you have not tried this place, go and enjoy yourself, plus outdoor dinning.

This is more of an "upscale" sports bar and grille, since it's in the nice area of Clive/West Des Moines near the business park area. Has a good look on the inside with TVs and a lot if seating. For the food, pizza has just okay. The cheese was the best part, has a nice blend. Sauce was alright, and the crust I didn't like to much, kinda bland and tough to me. It was wing nite, for .59 cents bit a bad deal. Only issue was I had to get 13, wish I could get smaller portions. They do come on a plate of lettuce, yes big lettuce. I could do without that, wings don't need to be fancy. But u guess the area calls for it? But the sauces were just okay, had the super hot and hot. Sauce wasn't too spicy for me(I have a high tolerance), but overall flavor wasn't there for me. If you want a nice sports bar that isn't a hole in wall, this is the spot.

Don't go here if you want a pizza that's half and half. Tried to order three large specialty pizzas for a group and they wouldn't make one of them half and half. Went somewhere else and they had no problem with our order. Too many places out there that will make it the way you want. Too bad these guys wont.

Stopped in Monday evening for $.59 wings and $2.00 draws. Got a huge plate of very tasty wings and three draws and my bill was only $12.00. I can't say enough on how good this place is.

Ok so I heard the pizza was good, but that was clearly and understatement. It was phenomenal!!!!! When I got there the hostess was very nice and although I was sitting alone she allowed me to choose where I wanted to be seated. My waitress was kool and very knowledgeable about favorites on the menu. I actually asked for a strawberry lemonade which they didn't have. However the waitress did her best to accommodate it with a lemonade mixed with Grenadine. Hmmm and that was pretty good! The pizza that I chose was a Philly Cheesesteak Pizza. It included perfectly cooked cheesesteak, mozzarella, onions, green peppers and sour cream!!! It was delicious. I see why they are known as the best pizza place in town!! There were so many options of pizza to choose from; they even had a Taco pizza!!! If ever in town again I'm going to have to stop by and indulge in another specialty pizza!!

We stopped in here on a Thursday night and the place was PACKED. The parking lot was full with people parking all over the place so I parked in a lot across the street. People kept pouring in and the place was really really loud. We were told we had a 30-40 min wait and ended up waiting around 15 mins. Our waiter was pretty fast and seemed to be covering quite a few tables as he was always in a hurry. My husband ordered a beer and the mug was rather warm (the handle felt like it just came out of being washed). Not ideal. We ordered the Philly Cheese Steak Pizza. It took some time to come out but our waiter kept us informed. When it did come out, it looked great! Lots of cheese, just how I like it. It had good flavor but the only complaint I had is that the crust was hard. So hard I could not cut it with a fork. I ended up burning my mouth pretty good trying to eat it. That is the only thing I would change about the pizza. Overall, good place but be ready for a wait.

The Other Place is loud. I don't know it's only because we were there on a Friday during happy hour, but the music was so loud that we practically had to shout to each other. They could turn it down a notch. I had a Cajun chicken pepperjack something wrap that was really quite delicious, along with seasoned fries. It might have been conflicting seasoning for me between my wrap and the fries, but to me the fries were a little overseasoned. Our kid said they were the best French fries he'd ever tasted! So what do I know? The pizza at the OP is awesome, though, and I was more than happy to help my boyfriend eat his after I'd had a taste. I'm a thin crust gal but as far as hand tossed pizza goes, this crust takes the cake. It's perfection. The toppings are pretty great, too. Even though the place was packed because of happy hour, our server was still super attentive, enthusiastic, and very fast. A+ service - and I don't say that very often.

Pizza review : I've had Pizza all over this country and when I say Pizza is really good somewhere, most if not all people agree with me. The pizza here is one of the best in my opinion. The service is fast, even when the place is really busy. If I had a complaint about the other place, which I don't, it would be the noise. It's a big time sports bar that serves great Pizza, so if you are looking for a quiet, dark hideout.....look elsewhere. Otherwise, enjoy the games on all the tv's, the loud fans and great Pie.

Our family of 4 dined here for the first time tonight and it will most likely be our last. We arrived at a busy time and were seated sooner than was expected. We ordered right when we sat down, knowing that our 2 and 5 year old children would not wait long. Our drinks and appetizer arrived promptly and then our service just stopped. An HOUR later a manager arrived to say that our pizza order had been lost and that the pizza would be comped. Fine... still waiting. Ten more minutes later we hailed our server, asked for the bill and for the pizza to be boxed. The boxed pizza arrived along with a bill for the appetizer and drinks. In my opinion, after that long, the whole meal should have been comped. The experience left me more exhausted than making dinner myself. Which probably taints my review of the pizza, which tasted just "Meh" after all that hassle.

As a Waverly native, I was excited to see an OP here in Des Moines! They have totally awesome pizza that was a special treat when I was a kid. On this visit, BF & I opted to split too smaller pizzas, the BBQ Chicken, which has red onion and cilantro on it (YUM!) and the classic House Special. Honestly I would eat any pizza that came out of that kitchen. SO GOOD. Dining room was clean, service was friendly. Something I noticed that I thought was a very smart idea was there are LOTS of 6-top tables. If you have a bigger group, you should be able to find a place to sit. I just know a lot of places have mostly 4-top tables and that can mean long waits for seating if you have more than 4. Definitely a plus to see so many group tables! They don't have a beer list, so from what our server rattled off, the selection was decent. But I'd say if you're more of a craft beer person, you're choices are probably slim.

The OP just opened on University where the old Boston's was located. We stopped in for lunch on Saturday. Got there early (11 am) and am glad we did, because the place was pretty full by the time we left. I like the new decor. They took down the wall between the bar and dining area, and it makes it look a lot bigger and more open. Waitstaff was very friendly and we had great service. They are currently operating with a limited menu, but our server said the full menu will be available soon. All four of us got individual pizzas and were very happy with our food. I had the buffalo chicken pizza and it was great. My wife said her taco pizza was one of the best she's had. My parents also had good things to say about their food as well. Happy to see something good go into this location. We'll definitely be back!

I have eaten twice at the Clive location and got average service. This time, our party of five walked out even before being seated. I will never return. This is the very first time in my life I have written a poor review. My mantra is, "I am not picky." Six groups were seated after us. Some were larger, some smaller. I was never told the wait time or asked if we would break up our group. I wasn't concerned as there was only three groups listed ahead of us when I checked in. I expressed a concern after five groups after us were seated. The the next group of five after my question got immediate seating because one of their group was in a booster seat. A booster takes up the same amount of space as a chair. A manager explained that people were not leaving due to the basketball game. WRONG! Many groups left including a group of 10. After a 45 minute wait while watching the hostess stand there and play with her cup of ice and a sorry excuse from a manager, we left.

Nice layout. I liked it much better than the previous Boston Pizza. I had 9 inch special pizza and my husband had chef salad. My pizza tasted good; however, I did not like the crust. It was too thick and hard. I prefer soft and thin crust. Also, it supposed to have nine toppings but I saw mostly green peppers and few other ingredients. I removed the crust and just ate the toppings. My husband liked his chef salad. Service was excellent.

Nice place with plenty of room lots of tv's but the pizza was absolutely horrible I think chunky cheese pizza is better than this place. Server did a good job and didn't take long for food but DO NOT get the pizza

We waited a while to try this place because all new restaurants need time to work out the kinks. Our strategy didn't work this time. We had lunch there today and the pizza dough had absolutely no flavor and was under cooked. The service was slow even though the place was only about half full. Our order wasn't correct either. Hold the tomatoes isn't a difficult request, is it?!? This place was a huge disappointment after all the hype by their original Eastern Iowa groupies. However, I always challenge myself to find one good thing when writing a bad review so I will say this...the OP is clean and has tons of nice TV's. So if you are going out to have enough drinks during the game to not notice the poor quality of food and service then you might enjoy this place. And remember to take a cab home, please!

Been here many times without the family. But tonight it seems with 2 small kids, we had the plague. Sat at a bar top table to order drinks while we waited (we've done this before). 1st waitress saw the beeper and bolted without offering to take our drink order. Then the host came over and asked us to leave the bar area. We asked if they needed the table. No, they just didn't want us to sit there. When we said we actually would like to order drinks from the bar, they didn't quite know what to say. Never offered to take our drink order though. So ousted from a table and drinkless, we lost our appetite for pizza and left for a more "parents-who-drink-friendly" place. I will not return to such a discriminatory establishment.

Finally stopped for pizza. It was good, maybe a little more sauce needed. Tenderloin grilled kind of dry but good. Good beer special, had ice cold mug of Bud. Bartender was great, she was good looking, added bonus. We will be back.

The long awaited opening of the Other Place finally happened on Thursday, July 5th. I just had to stop in! Apparently, I wasn't alone - the parking lot was so full that people were parking across the street. Luckily, I found one corner spot in their lot and a lone stool to sit on at the bar. I wasn't hungry so I ordered a tall draw beer. Due to being so busy, they were not able to keep up on frosty mugs so the bartender offered me a glass of ice cubes to add to my beer to keep it cool. I decided to order the hand-cut mozzarella sticks and the batter was very light, flaky and crispy. I took a small Philly cheesesteak pizza home to share with the family and everyone agreed that it was one of the best pizzas around. Still basking in the happiness from my first visit, I was compelled to head back to the Other Place on Friday. On both of my visits, Anne was a very friendly, efficient and attentive bartender. I was significantly impressed with her co-workers on Friday night as they all worked together to keep the customers happy and drinking. I liked watching them rotate around the bar and assisting anyone who needed something rather than segmenting the bar into separate sections. That style of teamwork was lacking on my initial visit. My mom and I ordered the onion rings and lasagna. The onion rings had a delightful light and flaky quality that will keep me coming back for more. I was confused that they were served with ranch dressing. The side salad was fairly typical but a good portion and complement to the lasagna. The flavors in the glass bowl were quite savory but the ratio of sauce to noodles was unbalanced. It seemed very soupy and didn't hold together as a pasta dish. The biggest flaw of the meal was the garlic bread- both pieces were hard and one piece had a definite char to it. I am sure they would have corrected this issue had we mentioned it but we were pretty fill from everything else we consumed. On a personal nit-picky issue- they don't have Coke so I will probably stick to beer as I just don't like the taste of Pepsi products with alcohol. Overall, I am super excited to have the Other Place open and so close to my work - I wish them much success!

We went back last night to try the non-pizza items on the menu. Service was prompt, professional and very friendly. My husband ordered the chicken wings and a basket of fries. I ordered the grilled pork tenderloin sandwich and a side salad. The side salad was good--fresh vegetables and a decent sized portion. My husband's fries were very good, with a distinctive seasoning on them that we devoured. My husband said his wings were tough and the sauce was flavorless. I honestly think my sandwich was one of the worst I have had in years. The meat was so dry and so charred I had a very difficult time choking it down. I would have sent it back, but we were pressed for time. I actually think we enjoy the food better at Legends, which is NOT a compliment to Legends!!!
