As diners go, this wasn't bad. It has a 50s ambiance to it, complete with the decor on the wall and the shiny booth seats. Whether you like the food or not is going to depend on how much you enjoy your standard "greasy spoon" fare. This place specializes in "loose meat sandwiches", a concept I'd formerly only heard of when Roseanne opened one in her t.v. sitcom, which I'm told was inspired by this very same chain. I had a "Big Bopper Shoe", which was some Texas Toast, covered in chili, cheese, onions, and loose meat. As chili goes, it was not my favorite chili, as it was very heavy on the kidney beans. The loose meat had a good flavor overall though. My kids got grilled cheese kids' meals, which they were entertained by due to the fact that it is served in a cardboard-paper replica of an old 50s car. They also got shakes... Wow. The shakes. THESE are the reason to come back. Real ice cream shakes, served in a classic glass, along with the silver container they were blended in, which actually makes for two shakes. Our waitress was very nice, pointing out how large the shakes are, and she actually split our shakes for us in advance, turning two shakes into four shakes, so that four of us could each enjoy one on our own without ordering one each. The service was good. They seemed to only have one girl waiting tables, so it wasn't necessarily quick service, but really it didn't seem to be a problem... then again there were only four tables occupied, and it was 3 o'clock on a Saturday, so I'd have to assume that they would staff the place with more help during peak hours. Diner food is hard to rate highly unless they have some kind of meal that can blow me away, but it was still tasty, the restaurant was clean, the help was good, and the shakes were awesome! They also serve breakfast. Haven't tried that though...

One of my favorite simple diner style restaurants in the Midwest. It has a 50s ambiance and their classic, patented "maid-rite" sandwich is a greasy spoon favorite. There is no dancing around its grease and messiness but if you want some comfort food and an age-old take on a sloppy joe, this is your place. The Red Velvet shake is to die for, and if you're really hungry, get a Mega Rite with fries.

Yuck! Greasy, raw, salty, overpriced...not for people with taste...Kind of sad because Maid Rite used to be great! I grew up in the Moline area and always loved them. The Bettendorf Maid Rite sucks. Both their breakfast and the actual "maid rite" sandwiches are "made wrong", they are SUPER greasy and I can't stress that enough and their breakfast literally made me want to throw up. It was just nasty! Will never go back there...ever...

We ate here last night. What a disappointment! I ordered the roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy, and Wisconsin cheese soup. It came with a salad that you could not substitute so my husband just ate it while I had the cheese soup. Hubby had a maid rite and fries. My son got the kids burger, fries, and a root beer float. The soup was clumpy, but it tasted good (and I was hungry) so I didn't complain. When we got our food, however, I had to complain. The roast beef was COLD and they just poured hot gravy over it. The mashed potatoes were clumpy, and the texture was disgusting! My son's burger was like a hockey puck. I wouldn't eat it, so I wasn't going to make him eat it. I sent it back and just ate hubby's extra maid rite since they were buy one get one free. I just ordered another order of fries after that. The drinks were good though. I had a chocolate malt with my dinner along with my son having his root beer float. I felt bad for the waitress because she was so nice, and it wasn't her fault. She didn't charge us for the drinks, the nasty roast beef, or my fries. That is the reason why I give this place 2 stars. If it wasn't for that, it would have been a 1 star for sure! Warning: If you want to eat at Maid Rite, don't go to this one!

The food here is pretty good. Typical diner fare. Really good shakes! However, the service is not great at all and definitely knocked it down a star.
