I came here since people said this is the best Chinese restaurant in Ankeny and I was feeling "lucky"... well, this place is certainly VERY lucky for having such a good rating on Yelp. I didn't find the pricing to be that great compare to other Chinese restaurants around here. The food was very average & bland, and I had the WORST hot and sour soup I have ever had in my life. The service was SLOW and they only take cash. I don't think I am coming back.

Cheap. Fast. Probably the best chinese in Ankeny, but that's not too high of a hurdle to jump. Terrific bang for your buck. Combo meals are like $6 or so, and come with rice, soup, egg roll, and crab rangoon, if I remember correctly. Many many choices. Fair warning on the combo crab rangoons - they are not as good as what you get when you order a la carte. That may also be true for the egg rolls, I dunno. Cash only - you've been warned.

Fast. Great menu. Food is quite good. Lo Mein was fantastic. I will frequent this place often.

The food is great but they only take cash. They need to run this business in the 21st century. You have to make it easy to do business.

Lucky Bamboo has been voted the best Chinese in Ankeny year after year for a reason. You can get just about any common Chinese dish in a combo with an Egg Roll, Crab Ragoon, Rice and Soup for under $6 even during dinner hours. The take-out is always fresh, and the little guy that brings you the soup and clears tables is always helpful and cheery. I absolutely love Lucky Bamboo.

This cash only establishment is a lunchtime game changer. They are doing what mad max did for action movies and what Kim Kardashian did for narcissism. The lunch specials are bottom-dollar cheap but somehow manage to fill me up with food that I think came from actual quality groceries. The sesame chicken doesn't have any of those gristly, chewy pieces that I prefer not to think about. The pho is surprisingly good. I've gone here two days in a row which I rarely do. Go eat here.

I went here recently. The girl that took my order was nice. She went through the menu quickly, but good thing they have the steps on the screen. The egg drop soup was delicious! I ordered steamed rice, but got fried rice instead. It's okay though, I didn't mind as much. The crab rangoon was a disappointment, not the best. The spring roll was tasty! I used the sauce from my Mongolian chicken as a dip. Although it made a great dip for my spring roll, the sweetness was overpowering. Maybe another scoop of fried or steamed rice would've made a difference to balance out the flavors. The chicken was tender though which was a plus. Overall, the special is a great deal for a meal for less then $8!

I haven't been here for a while and I just had to return because they renovated the restaurant and it looks beautiful! The decor is now modern, a very modern Asian eatery design. It is absolutely one of the most best interior looks I have seen for a fast-food Chinese food restaurant. Again, this is CASH-ONLY! I noticed they had Pho on the menu so I decided to try that. We both ordered the large combo Pho and it was great! Compared to Pho 85 in Ankeny, I would say it tastes about the same, so you aren't missing out on one or the other. The staff members are very friendly and there are plenty of seating options here. I am glad they renovated, it definitely sets them apart from other Chinese fast-food restaurants. There are still a good amount of people who just come to pick up food for take out, but with the new decor I bet there will be more people who will take some time to eat in, catch the game on the TV, and just relax.

I have been coming to Lucky Bamboo since I moved to Ankeny on recommendation of the locals and I must say I have tried most every other Chinese restaurant near here and this is by far THE BEST!!! They have a wide variety of choices on their menu and it always comes out super fresh and hot! The place is super clean and staff is super friendly!! I am addicted to their Mongolian beef, sesame chicken, potstickers, and now some of the best most flavorful pho I have ever had!!! The amount of depth of flavors the broth alone has tops everything I have had before! Again another rave review for Lucky Bamboo! The best place in Ankeny for authentic Chinese! And a great value! Even though they only take cash or check it's worth it!!

Fast friendly service and a good price. I had the rangoons, a little chewy but good taste, and the Mongolian beef extra spicy. Over all good taste, but not a fan of the little crunchy noodles that were under the beef. I would come back for seconds.

Fast and fresh, for these two things alone warrant five stars. The lo mein in any form is great. We love the sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, egg rolls, and crab rangoon. I have yet to have a bad dish at this place. My family and I frequent lucky bamboo 2 to 3 times a month.

Good Food, Good deal, and quick service. Lucky Bamboo is Cash only, but worth the effort to swing by an ATM on the way if you need to. My family eats here pretty often and it is one of my 3 year old daughters favorite places to eat. The Mongolian Beef is my favorite and it never lets me down. I recommend getting your favorite Chinese entree as "the special" which means you get soup, 1 egg roll, 1 crab Rangoon, noodles with your entree. It's a great deal! The fish aquarium under the counter is a cool thing for... you know.. the kids!

We were told that it was the best in Ankeny while out shopping and read that it had positive reviews on Yelp. While it might be the best in Ankeny, it's still bad. The soup had way too much corn starch in it. The chicken lo main was bland. The cashew chicken used inferior cuts of meat. The pot stickers were oily. Overall, just disappointing. There are other restaurants in Ankeny that are much better for a quick meal.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
