The food here is top notch and being able to sample wine in the gift shop before dinner is wonderful idea. However, the wine is very bitter and it was tough to find anything that didn't remind me of cough medicine. I admit to being a novice when it comes to wine but several friends who are much more into wine have tried this place and their impression was much the same.

We tried Daly Creek Winery and Bistro for the first time last week. We will be going there again! The service was excellent...our meals ( garden Alfredo and the grilled chicken sandwich) were great and the warm bread with dipping oil/spices was honestly the best bread we've had anywhere....and the wine....also excellent. Outdoor seating was a bonus on a lovely spring evening!

On my way through town and stopped in for first time today and enjoyed the service and the lunch special, Ramen noodles! At first I was taken aback, but this Ramen was made with strips of NY steak and portobella mushroom in a delicate perfectly seasoned broth and a perfectly poached egg. Excellent. Will definitely be back with my wife to sample the wines. Outdoor seating looks nice, weather permitting. Might be a good Sunday Funday destination.

I would not have expected to find such a spectacular place in a tiny Iowa town! The food here is excellent, the service great, and the wine is a must! We enjoyed a wine tasting after ordering our food and waiting for it. I enjoyed many of the wines they have and ended up getting a glass of a reisling - it was hard to choose! We did not have to wait too long for our food. Since everyone in my party got pasta, we also got the bread service with it - wow, amazing bread!! We all enjoyed our pasta dishes. We also got the lobster crisp appetizer (loved it). For dessert.. the featured cheesecake! We chose a Reese's peanut butter cup cheesecake - soooo good! All 5 of us enjoyed the visit and plan to come back when we are at Pictured Rocks Park again. And I have to say, I am looking forward to it!

Delicious. Simple. Highly recommend. I had a chicken panini sandwich, and salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing.

This is a gem hidden in a small town in Iowa a half block or so off Main Street. We started by tasting wine, then moved to the patio for dinner. Although 2 or 3 reds were extremely dry, the Penitentiary Red was just right for us. We ordered a bottle with dinner. Because we were in Iowa, we chose beef and pork dishes which were served with steamed locally grown asparagus. We were not disappointed. Each dish was served with elegant presentation. We started with the baked Brie in pastry with raspberry sauce. It was served piping hot with crisp bread rounds. Silky smooth and delicious. The hanger steak was a perfectly cooked medium rare and very tasty served with polenta with mushroom sauce and peas in cream. Wonderful! The pork tenderloin was tender flavorful and served with garlic mashed potatoes. Delicious bread with crisp crust was tender, warm inside and served with olive oil, grated cheese and two pepper spice mixes. Fabulous! We ended the meal with lemon cheesecake and strong coffee. The cake was very lemony, yet sweet, just the perfect refreshing finish to the meal. Service was top notch. The staff was a well versed on the food, specials, wine pairings and locally sourced ingredients. Can't wait to return.

I just love this place!! The lobster crisp is a wonderful appetizer! Many times I just go to have a wonderful glass of Virgo Moon and the warm bread with olive oil dip. When the weather is nice out, it is a perfect place to eat outside and feel like you are at a special place.

We discovered Daly Creek back in March and have been regular visitors since. Love the varieties of wine available as every one we take there finds one that they enjoy. The food and service are top notch and it is just a cozy little fun place to get away and have dinner. Actuallly headed there tonight and looking forward to it.

We came during pumpkin fest. Traveling from Des Moines to Dubuque to Milwaukee. The best service the best food. The chef was willing to make our food special. We had the lobster crisp. I would highly recommend. The bruschetta was fresh. A great sharing dish. For the main dish we had the Mediterranean pasta. The best. One of the girls put shrimp on. They were really a nice size. Highly recommend the fresh bread with oil. To end we had a lemon cheese cake. It was homemade fresh lemon zest outstanding!! One of the best meals on our girl weekend! Thanks to the staff all I can say is wow!! 4 girls from Wisconsin

I discovered the Daly Creek Winery & Bistro just looking for a place between Cedar Rapids and Dubuque to eat. Quite a serendipitous find. We started dinner with the baked brie appetizer, had the Winemaker's Reserve Cabernet wine, and ate the Tuscan meatloaf, coconut tilapia, pork medallions (special), and Iowa Angus steak for dinner. We then shared the Dark Tower for dessert. All of the food was excellent, and we'd recommend any of those dishes above. The service was excellent, with suggestions and attention as often as we needed. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, and managed the small dining room easily. The facilities were cozy and warm. They have a nice-looking outdoor eating area (obviously not open in late December). My wife peeked in the kitchen when walking to the restroom and noticed that it was very clean and orderly, which is always nice to know. The gift shop has just a small assortment of wine- or Anamosa-related merchandise, but was pretty neat. They also offer wine tastings in the gift shop; I wish we had done that before eating so we'd know which wine to order with dinner... and whether we'd want to buy any others to take home. Off the back, one can see a room with wine storage and some tables; we were told they host private parties in there. The wine itself was quite good; I'm not a connoisseur, but the Cabernet was good, bold but not strong, and had a slightly sweet taste. Unfortunately we didn't taste any others, but they had six or so available for purchase in the gift shop and at least that many behind the counter available for tasting. This is definitely a place we'd enjoy going back to, and we will likely plan a trip there when in the Dubuque area again.

Had not been back to Iowa in many years and was completely caught off guard by this establishment. My last night in town, i wanted to have a great meal with my family and my sister highly recommended Daly's. After a terrific wine tasting we were seated at our table. The first thing you notice is the warm and caring attitude exhibited by the waitresses combined with exceptional knowledge of not only the menu, but the intricacies with which the chef prepares his food. The waitress truly made us feel special. We started with crab stuffed mushrooms which were exceptional. The French onion soup was deep and seasoned well. Main course was the hangar steak prepared perfectly rare and paired wonderfully with the Cabernet Sauvignon. For desert we had the chocolate raspberry cheesecake which exceeded expectations in terms of complexity and taste. I have eaten at many high end restaurants across the US and would rank Daly's Bistro with any of them. A true gem.

We were visiting family in Monticello and looking for a nicer restaurant (a.k.a. with a chef) for a night out. Daly Creek did a very nice job of earning our business. We made reservations for 5 (I took my two children, too) and enjoyed a tasting while our table was prepared. The staff was friendly and attentive and the patio was secluded with Boccelli playing in the background. My only suggestion on atmosphere is to replace the aging patio sets! The inside dining room was charming, complete with white linens and candles. The food was a pleasant surprise, although we needed to salt a few items. The hit of the evening was their freshly baked bread and dipping oil. I'd highly recommend Daly Creek to anyone who is passing through town.
