This is one of my favorite places to eat. We eat there several times a week. The food is excelent and consistant in quality. They are very helpful. My boyfriend and I have multiple food allergies and they accommodate us very well. My boyfriend has said that eating at Le's is like eating at grandma's house provided your grandmother was a small, bubbly vietnamese woman. The prices are great too. Le's is our second home.

One of the things, I miss about not living in Ames anymore is the hidden gems they have! Le's Vietnamese is one of those hidden gems! Tucked away in a "stripmall" off Lincoln Way via Colorado Junction (still following me) is one of my favorite restaurants in town! Family owned, beautifully prepared Vietnamese food! Great noodle soups, veggie dishes, tofu dishes, tea's, shake type items! Order in or take out, you wont leave hungry the portions are fantastic and the service is great! My wife once gave the heimlich maneuver to our friend here, and after she was saved we just went back to eating our meals cause they were so good! I love this place!

Just no. Recently changed hands and went downhill fast. Used to be the place to go for pho. Pho now tastes like it's made from cubes - may not even be that good. If you're looking for soup go to Chinese Home Cooking.

I wasn't impressed in the least. The area of town and little strip this place is in, they really should serve authentic and delicious Vietnamese food but instead all I tasted was bland, bland, bland, no seasoning, bland. The server was super sweet but the food just wasn't very good and they didn't even have bahn mi!!! Come on, a Vietnamese restaurant in a college town should serve some damn sandwiches!!!! The prices are mildly fair but the quality of the food is a solid zero. Customer service was a 10 and the space was clean. Sole positives.

Let me start off by saying Le's was once one of my favorite restaurants in Ames. They are under new ownership and BOY have things changed! I went here yesterday with my parents and husband and no one got exactly what we ordered because nothing came out as it was on the menu. Second, our appetizer came out AFTER our food (and I reminded her we ordered it...) and was cold. It took until we were leaving for them to apologize for this also. Go at your own risk!

I am so sad to say that something has definitely changed between last year (2014) and this year (2015). I have gone back about 5 or 6 times this year hoping that my recent experiences were not the norm. Unfortunately I have left each time feeling disappointed in the taste of the food. I now have to drive to Ankeny (Pho 85) to have some decent Pho. :( Such a bummer.

We revisited Le's again and was pleased to see that they have expanded their menu to include some new items. We stopped on a Friday night and I was pleased to see that it was busier than I had ever seen it previously. I had my standard for a visit to Le's kicking it off with the XI Mai dumplings and a very satisfying bowl of their Pho noodle soup. The owner was as eager to please as ever and was very sure to make sure we were satisfied for the $26 we spent for two.

Blech! What a disappointment. When I came across a Vietnamese Restaurant in Iowa on Yelp I was really pumped to try it out. We drove to Ames from Webster City (about 30-45 minutes) only to wish we would have stayed home. The service was great! I wish that their food matched up to this quality. We ordered two boba smoothies, fried chicken wings, spring rolls, and two shrimp and pork Phos. Let's start with the boba. They were multicolored and multi-shaped little CRUNCHY balls floating in the sweetest smoothie I have ever had. I am glad that there were only about 5 or 6 bobas per smoothie as they were inedible. The fried chicken wings were awesome and, looking back, I wished I would have just ordered a few of these. The spring rolls were nothing more than a pile of wilted lettuce with one shrimp sliced in half. The rice paper was super chewy and the peanut sauce was watery. Now for the really bad...The Pho tasted like it came out of a box. What Vietnamese place does not make their broth from scratch? There was absolutely no flavor. The noodles were also very bland and were so thick they made me wonder if they were really rice noodles. They did not provide basil or mint, so we were left to spice up our soup with lime and cilantro. I literally had to dump sriracha and chili flakes into the bowl to get any bit of flavor out of it. So much for Vietnamese food in Iowa...

I've gone here several times, each time hoping they would change my opinion about their food. I'm really sorry to say, I wish I could enjoy the dishes they serve here more...not a good representation of Viet food, but only one of two in Ames.

Not a good experience this time, we have been customers for many years but recently ownership changed and this was our second visit since the change. Our first experience was very good, but this time it was subpar, there were four in our party and no bodies meal contained all the ingredients that were listed on the menu, appetizer came at the end of the meal (egg rolls) and they were under cooked and cold. The service was slow and they asked us three times about how to prepare our meal and we had all ordered directly off the menu, didn't know what that was all about, over all taste of food wasn't as what we had become accustomed to at this restaurant.

They changed ownership mid-2014. The folks who run it now look suspiciously like the people who used to work the Chinese counter at Hy-Vee. That should be all you need to know to avoid it. Too bad, I'll miss the old Le's.

Great food and service! It's kind of hidden and easy to miss. Delicious spring rolls. $6.00 lunch includes soup and egg roll. Would definitely recommend this place!

I discovered this fantastic little place a little under a year ago - they now know me very well. I generally am wary of any sort of Asian cuisine because I've found it usually to be drenched in syrup and /or fried and taste the same. Not here. I rave about this place to everyone! The service is phenomenal. There seems to be just a handful of waitstaff (it is a tiny place) and they're all wonderfully friendly without being overbearing. The owner herself will pop out from the kitchen very often to check around and say hello to familiar faces - she is the sweetest and happiest thing, it makes my day to see her, she really makes you feel welcome. I also have gotten to the point where on my rush to work during lunch I'll stop by to get a large bowl of Hot & Sour Soup to go almost twice a week so they've nailed a routine down - it's to the point where they can process my order without interrupting the flow with other customers coming in or leaving and still make me feel like a friend and not a numbered customer. It's so convenient and I love supporting the local business vs. stopping at McDonalds where it takes longer and no personal touch. The food is amazing - and CHEAP! Unless I'm ravenous I almost always leave with a little to-go box. Great portion sizes! I'm straight addicted to their hot & sour soup and a LARGE bowl (which is its own meal for me) is only $3.75. I often get their Ginger Beef and they happily add snow peas on request - so it comes with gingered beef (such a strong, fresh flavor too) and sweet onions, snow peas, and a ball of white rice. Delicious! My boyfriend is warier of spicy foods so he stuck with the sesame chicken and oh my lanta I was impressed - the breading tasted so fresh and the chicken was just right. I wanted to steal his food! I've personally not gotten the Pho but I go with plenty of regulars who adore it. Yes it does come out "plain and watery and bland" BUT they will and usually do anyway bring you a tray of sauces and seasonings of varying degrees to add to it as you please. I think this is the smartest way they could do it! It's loaded with noodles, sprouts, veggies, and whatever else they list as in it (again, I've not eaten it). I don't like eggrolls. I love their eggrolls. Crunchy and light! No the decor is nothing special and sometimes I giggle at the music they play (pretty sure an instrumental of old disney favorites like the Lion King was playing once) but they keep it low. Besides, the food and people are worth it. Also, important to note in Ames, if there are Asians frequenting an Asian place - it's good. There are always Asians here so I guess the food is good enough to remind them of home! Good sign! I can go here with a friend or the boyfriend and a perfectly sized meal for two will cost us somewhere around $15-17. However this is without drinks, just water.

Once you find it (it's hidden) and get over the "decor," you will find great service and an extensive menu. For those not familiar with Vietnamese food, take some time to explore the menu and ask your server for recommendations. Don't just get the basic "western style Asian cuisine" (beef and broccoli). For example, if you want tripe pho and it's not on the menu, just ask if they have it. They likely do.... :)

Not a bad place. Plenty of Americanized Chinese food available on the menu if you're not ready for Vietnamese food.

Today, I was really surprised, all tables were taken. and many were waiting on the line! Le's Vietnamese has been popular, but not as much as this! After being set on the table, actually I figured out, maybe the owner and chefs are changed. Even though the restaurants still titled as "Vietnamese" and would provide you the same menu, the food is totally different. It went more into Chinese style, and the taste is so great! I'm not a chinese, but have visited China multiple times and loved food there, and the taste was indeed what I had tried in China. From this time, I strongly recommend trying some chinese options, such as spicy beef, rather than ordering some Vietnamese noodle. The chef has expertise on chinese foods, and that's why it was so crowded! It definitely became a great option of Asian food in Ames. Also, if you have specific food in mind, please ask them to cook even though it's not on the menu. Even you can use e-translator using a mobile phone, delivering the right menu in Chinese, which I did too. And they'll bring the great food authentic enough what you can have in China, the food paradise.

The food definitely did not meet my expectations. I had a house special - the house combination and the food was disappointing. It was a mixture of vegetables and meats that were drenched in sauce. Another dish we had was the beef vegetable which was really salty. The decor of the place left much to be desired. On a better note, the customer service was good and the staff was friendly.

My first time eating at Le's and I found the food very tasty. Their were many repeat customers which is always a good sign. Varied menu with all the typical favorites. Under new ownership.

Awesome food, great prices, great service. Loved this place...pho was so tasty, curry wraps were light and fresh and the bubble tea was good. Wasn't crazy about bubbles still firm texture but flavor was good. Will never visit Ames without stopping in again!

Great fast service! We both ordered the beef pho and it was delicious! The table next to us (a group of elderly folks) we very specific in their order. The server was very accommodating to their every request. Iced glasses are a nice touch for the international beers. Do it!

Even though the food isn't 5 stars, the service however is great. I always come back because they make me feel like family. If you really like good customer service, I recommend this place.

Pleasantly surprised to find this establishment... literally it's hidden inside the corner of an off the street office space strip... good food and actually authentic though they don't carry everything you'll usually find in a big city typical vietnamese restaurant. Strong word of advice: stay away from the bubble tea and drinks. Whatever they're not out of tastes god awful fake and full of artificial color.

As Le's Vietnamese is sequestered in a business park (the same one that holds Pammel Deli & Grocery) it makes it one of the hardest restaurants to find. Still, if you do end up at the door, it is a nice change of pace from what is largely a chinese food town. The place is not inviting for your average midwesterner. Its dingy pink walls and flickering fluorescents are the hallmarks of a street food stand or an asian subway restaurant (the train, not the sandwich place). If you like eating in places where you marvel at the decor or get klepto around the nice silverware, this is not the place for you. But if you care about getting something decent to eat, then step on in. Service was quick and polite, which is to say, terse. I don't think there were even 10 words that were exchanged between the waitress and myself. Sometimes I like to get chatty at restaurants, but some days it's nice to have the option to go from 0 to pho as fast as possible. First, the spring rolls. They're beautiful things with noodles, vegetables, pork, and a single shrimp barely visible behind the rice wrapper. For those that are concerned about healthy eating, these are perfect. They're virtually unseasoned (they provide condiments that bring extra flavor to the table) so you don't have to worry about sodium intake. Their spareness, which I normally abhor, is refreshingly good, as the flavors of the ingredients come through without being tortured. As for the pho, it was pretty good. Everything that should've been there was there, and it looked pleasant enough. I've had thinner, more tender slices of beef in my pho before, I've been given more cilantro before*, but I was pretty happy with it. The only thing that struck me as off was the broth. As far as noodle soups go I've always been a stickler for the broths. Good broths have a wonderful depth of flavor that have a nourishing effect on the body and the soul. It is counterintuitive to feel refreshed after drinking something piping hot, but that's what makes some broths so amazing. This broth was not euphoric, but it was still good. Overall I'm pretty happy. I still have to try more of the menu, but I'm pleased so far that I decided to seek it out. *Second time around they gave me plenty of cilantro and basil as well!

After weeks of eating fried foods, steaks and bbq on this business trip, we all had a major craving for Asian food. We did a search on the nearest Vietnamese restaurant and Le's popped up on our radar first. I'm Vietnamese and also live in SJ so I have high expectations for Vietnamese food. Asian food in Iowa? I think I'm asking for too much. Service was very good. I will admit that. We were immediately seated, given enough time to order our appetizers, got our Vietnamese coffee, and was given ample time to order our lunch stuff soon after. My lunch: Combination vermecelli: vermecilli with stir fried pork, egg rolls and shrimp. Vermicelli was cooked right. Pork was ok, though not in the traditional sense. There was no basil, mints, or any of the usual herbs. I think that this stuff may not be easily acquired in Iowa. Nuoc mam was americanized and over sweetened. Spring rolls: I couldn't finish my roll. The rice paper was kind of wet. A lot of the herbs were missing once again. Rolls contained pork, shrimp, vermicelli, and lettuce. No mints, basil, leek, or cilantro. Peanut sauce was bland. Vietnamese coffee: This tasted pretty similar to what you can find in SJ, so props there. I was sad they pre-made the coffee in the kitchen, so we couldn't see it in the making at our table. Overall menu: mostly americanized panda express type of food. Only close to authentic food is found in the last section of the menu. If you're coming here to find authentic Vietnamese food, I would say that you are looking for the impossible. Taste is catered more for the American pallete and definitely not for the Vietnamese. I am going back to San Jose. haha

Chinese food is not Vietnamese food. Highly disappointed after trying...their version of Vietnamese food. We had Saigon cafe, Le's egg rolls, Viet pancake (banh xeo), pho, and combination vermicelli. $30.00 dinner not well spent. Even the if its one of the only Asian places to eat...unless you are looking for the "basic american chinese food"....I do not recommend for "Authentic Viet or to squish that Pho craving". Saigon cafe (Viet drip coffee) had too much water. Le's egg rolls were decent. Viet pancake no flavor. Pho- don't bother....it was water flavor and..combination vermicelli was Chinese food on top of vermicelli. Disappointed. I'd take the time and drive up the road a bit to Ankeny or Des Moines for some Vietnamese food - or cook it at home.

Nice quiet restaurant. Great service. Appetizer eggrolls and rice wrapped eggrolls were really tasty! Pho is very good. They grow their own herbs and are a family run restaurant with personal touches. Will definitely there again!
