This Zippy's has always been good for us and the food here is really consistent which I like,. Every now and then we have small issues but the staff is always right there to rectify them. Speaking of the staff, most of the time when we go to this location we are served by a young man named "Aaron". Aaron is a great server, we really like him. He's quick and friendly and on it with things like refills and checking up on us to see if we're doing ok when we come in. The restaurant is clean, a bit scuffed up here and there but the wall near our booth passes the white napkin wipe test, coming back without any dirt on it, in short it's starting to show its age but it still is very much intact. Due to the consistent cook styles, friendly service and condition of the location I believe that this Zippy's has earned my 5 star review.

We normally eat at Zippy's Waiau but with the terrible rail-induced traffic headache on Kam, we have shifted our culinary adventures into Waipio/Waikele. Like any local, we love Zippy's even when we don't love them, if you know what I mean. There's just something comforting about a Zippy's chili rice or loco moco. Honestly though, this Zippy's location is not as nice as the one in Waiau in pretty much all aspects. SERVICE: Not bad, not great, but adequate. The waitress was friendly and a little slow. The restaurant was not crowded on a Wed night so we figured it wouldn't take as long as it did to get our food and bill. Some waitresses at Waiau are SUPER FRIENDLY though and make us feel welcome. ATMOSPHERE: Older and uglier. The layout looks like a cafeteria from the 1980's. Definitely not relaxing and little privacy compared to other locations. It certainly needs a facelift. FOOD: Same as always. Good, a little pricey now, but I like to support local business and would rather pay more to eat at Zippy's than go to MCDs or Denny's. We'll be eating here more so I'll update my review as the sample size grows.

I just wanted to say that I really Love coming to Zippys. But service here at Zippys Waipio is horrible. There are some waitress that are on top of it but not today. My water was refilled nor my drink that is refillable. The hot chocolate wasn't stirred enough cause I had clumps of dried chocolate. My chili nachos didn't even have enough chili for me to eat it. So basically I only had chips with tomatoes and onions with a little cheese on top. But my salad was good and so was the bread that came with it. Service was very slow and to think that's what your job does. Refill the water, drinks, and get us some good food. Not this time... Sadly I think I'm gonna stay away from Zippy's Waipio for a bit. Even better do not go to the restaurant side. There are very slow service and the food is ok.

Always come here since its close by. Waiters are friendly. Foods just like any other zippys.

A much better location than the ghettoey Waipahu location on Farrington Hwy. We come here now cause of the messed up traffic they call "The Rail." We had a good waitress named Maribel, she was very easy on the eyes (beautiful) and gave good service. Waipio is a cleaner location and their restaurant furniture is in much better shape than the one in Waipahu.

Update 9/13 - zippys mgmt was in immediate contact with me and followed up. They ensured me this will be communicated to the store mgr and will be addressed. They also offered me w/a credit to our meals, which I appreciated. Hopefully things will be better when we return.

I use to come here on a daily basis but now I come call in my order and without fail they seem to screw up my order every time. I can't leave here with out checking. I guess the new staff are really smart! They can't ever get my order right and the problem I know isn't with the person taking my order because they seem to punch it in correctly but whoever is packing the food is one really gifted person! Seriously should have an iq off the charts at this point!

Friendly staff, always smiling, saying thank you,and saying goodbye as you leave. This made me feel welcome and appreciated. As a vegetarian, I felt like eating at Zippy's was not an option but recently I discovered that they have a vegetarian chili that can make veggie chili spaghetti, how lovely! They also have about 6-7 different types of salads that they allow special request to modify to your preference (taking the meat out). The night that I ate at Zippy's with my other half, he ordered CHILI MOCO and a clam chowder soup;I knew that I could order the same as him by having vegetarian chili. I asked our server if it's possible to switch my hamburger patty to the tofu patty; I was afraid she would say no but she said "that's no problem I can do that for you". I ate my meal and it was so good. Our waitress Kiera always refilled my coffee and asked in a timely manner if we were doing okay with our meal. This was the best experience I had eating at Zippy's and felt like it's worth sharing

Can't go to Hawaii without getting some Zippy's chili and chicken. I recommend this to any tourist that are in town. This is the perfect comfort food.

Zippy's Waipio was the place to go back when I was in high school. After every band concert or function, my family would drive up to Zippy's for dinner. Prices were reasonable even with the complete meal. Sadly in the years since high school, prices have gone up and we rarely come here. The food is okay, but I don't think it's worth the cost anymore. We came here this weekend as it was on my brother's "must eat while in Hawaii" list. My Italian chicken is no longer on the menu, and I opted against the complete meal as it would have put the cost of my hamburger steak at $12.00+. Yikes! The burger didn't taste homemade and was pretty tough. Gravy was okay. Service was pretty good. We had a trainee but thought she did just fine. Overall, it's okay...food isn't worth the cost sadly. I'm guessing we will only eat here when my brother is visiting from Arizona

Service is extremely SLOOOOOOWWWW. Even with a phone order expect to wait an additional 15-20 minutes even after arriving at the time frame they tell you. The only reason why I even bother coming here is because most places in Waipio closes at 9pm so if youre a busy body like me and get home late and don't have the time to cook, ordering take-out is a must. They really need to hire more cooks, I notice there's always at least 4 people in the front line but even with that much of them the wait is still long.

Tried the Ox Tail Soup. First time in awhile. Tasted pretty good with 9 pieces of meat. Swear they switched to a way smaller bowl and the ginger had a funny aftertaste. May be from a bottle and not freshly grated. Price is now Market Price instead of a fixed price on the menu. Noticed the won tun min on the table next to me was in the same size bowl. Hopefully, that was the small size and NOT the large. Guess I better go to Kenny's Restaurant to get their Ox tail before they close. Cheaper and tasty and bigger portion for less. Hoping Zippys gets their act together or no longer worth going there. Can get so much more for less at other restaurants or drive ins.

Service was HORRIBLE here! My husband and I decided to go to Zippy's for dinner after working a long day on August 20, 2015 . I've just worked 2 jobs and my husband just got home from a busy day at work. It was so busy for him that he skipped lunch. Since he didn't have anything to eat, he was feeling weak and dizzy and wanted to go to Zippy's. So we arrived at Zippy's Waipio at 10:55pm and waited to be seated. Employees were passing us but no one acknowledged us as if we were invincible. Finally after almost 10 minutes of waiting we were seated and given our menus. After that, we were left sitting there. No one came to us to offer drinks and no one came by to greet us and take our orders. It seemed we were being ignored. We waited and waited until 20 minutes went by and we decided to just leave at 11:25pm. I left there so upset and hungry. Don't get me wrong, we love Zippy's... That's why we went to the Waipahu location where we received excellent service. Waipio... You really need to work on this. Have your staff train at Waipahu... They know what they're doing!

Super duper slow service (restaurant side). No matter what t time of day I seem to go there, breakfast/lunch/dinner, I'm always waiting a very long time for the food. Normally I would find it tolerable if they would just acknowledge that they are sorry for the wait but they never do.

I love Zippys, and anyone who grew up here loves them. But what is going on, you got so expensive. I must be one cheap lady, but I still come back. I always get korean chicken (eat it right away) and the sundaes you got me good Zippys I would never leave you! I like this location people here are so friendly, especially my little Filipino hanai aunty who works in the restaurant side. Keep it up and go eat there if you haven't stop waiting!

    (3)
  • Erika W.

Extremely slow service for being fast food. I went with three other people and had the simplest order and had to wait longer than all of them. Parking lot and spots are too small. Garlic fries looked like they were dumped in extra grease. The only redeeming thing about zippy's is the bakery.

Zippy's is equivalent to "Denny's" in Hawaii but SOOOOOOOOO much better! They have a ton of locations and the restaurant is set up with two different eating areas, one for those who are in a rush (more like a fast food feel) and the other side is set up more like a sit down style (that menu is more extensive). Pretty much whatever you get here is good (packed with flavor) for such a great deal! I always order the saimin when sitting down and the korean fried chicken when on the other side. The saimin has a ton of toppings and its not just served with noodles and comes in a HUGE bowl that will definitely satisfy any tummy! The korean fried chicken is a reason to try this place alone! It has so much flavor and they give a good amount of meat. The zip pac is popular because it comes with a little bit of everything (spam, chicken, and one other meat I forget). If I can't make up my mind of what to eat, Zippy's never fails.

Waiter gave me a cup of my lilikoi juice and a separate cup for my ice, which meant more juice for me! not a bad touch

4.5 stars, defaulting to 4 because parking is a little bit tight for central Oahu--you expect it at Nimitz and Vineyard, but c'mon, this is Waipio... But still, *Loooove* this location for service and food consistency. Big portions, nice plating (yes, for Zippy's, you can still make it look nice). Rock star customer service every time we've been here, no matter how busy it is, and that's saying something. Katsu curry saimin is awesome deal for under $8...with choi sum, kamaboko, plenty Katsu, nice tamago, and choke saimin noodles in a huge bowl with a rich Japanese-flavor curry broth, it is always at least a 2 meal portion for me, and I share w/the baby! Hamburger curry is definitely different, with two scoops rice on the side. Served old school diner style, in the boat. Nice if you want to do your own ratios of curry to rice, instead of having the kitchen decide for you. Good flavor, but unusual. Kids meals always seem overpriced, until they come and the suckah is as big as the adult portion. Then I just wonder what size kid the kitchen thinks is out here, but ok. Dig in, babe! :) Clean bathroom with baby changer on wall in women's, three stalls. Better customer service than a lot of other locations, food temp brought out correctly, and kept clean. Refills consistent and we have never hit bottom before being brought out a refill. A little tough to get out of the parking lot if you're parked by the gas station that shares a boundary with this location, but a nicer Zippy's overall. Sometimes, Happiness is just as simple as a big a** Zip Min done right on a rainy day in Waipio.

We got seated at 1039am, didn't order till 1059am. I couldnt even get my belgian waffle because the wait help said that they ran out of batter. We continued to sit there without any drinks until 1110am. We did not receive our food till 1137. New comers were getting served their orders before us. Note: we ordered breakfast items which are usually fast to make because theyre fried. We never got refills on our water, our server did not come to check on us after serving our food. Then we didn't get our check till after my husband waived her down. Mind you, the restaurant was not full. I will usually give at least a 10% tip even if service was bad, but today was not a good day, as we waited for our food my two year old son kept complaining how hungry he was. That was enough to leave a dollar tip as a statement. AS A FOLLOW UP, I applaud the customer service department of Zippys Restaurants. It was unfortunate that I had experienced suh service, however the customer service department reached out to me the very next day by email through Yelp. The representative acknowledged my review and apologized on behalf of the company. She also said that the issue would be brought to the management of the the Waipio location. I think that Zippys is very sincere about developing their operations team. I am glad that there are companies as such that take the time to reach out and provide feedback to management.

just the same as every other zippys ive been to. i think its located in the oddest of locations, though. open 24 hours, so thats always a plus when youre hungry late at night and nothing else is open

Came here after church at 11 AM and waited at least an hour for our food. The waitress came by once while we were waiting to basically ask us how our water was. When the food finally came out it was cold and the waitress didn't even apologize for the ridiculous wait. I've been to zippys many times, but this is the worse service I have ever received.

I wanted to write a review specifically for the teri burger vs. the teriyaki beef sandwich. The teri burger is a hamburger with some teriyaki sauce drizzled on top of it to give the burger some teriyaki flavor. The hamburger itself is just normal hamburger. I was a little dissapointed by this. I was thinking the hamburger meat was going to be infused with awesome teriyaki flavor but this was not the case. My wife had teri beef sandwich which I also tried and there was much more teriyaki flavor there. So if your debating between the two I would recommend the teri beef sandwich over the burger. Overall I still gave my review 4 stars though because overall it is still by far on of my local favorites.

After such a terrible experience the last time we came here I was a little hesitant to come back. But service was excellent, Brandon no matter how busy he is was always polite and came to check on us throughout our meal. My favorite waitress candy was working. I think that because marissa candy and Brandon were all working that's why the overall atmosphere and experience was a helluva a lot better.

Been to this zippy's several times but this will definitely be my last. The manager's unwillingness to make the customer happy through a very small request is the kind of thing I will not tolerate. All I wanted was to substitute hash browns for my French Fries. Easy request. HBs are a regular menu item and they are both potatoes. The manager told me very stubbornly that there was no way they could do it. Not even with an up charge offered. Well if that's how petty you want to be over a freaking side to my meal then you don't deserve not will get my business any longer. I worked in the restaurant business for half my life, my Dad and grandfather also. If there's one thing I learned from those two owners it's this .... The customer ... Within reason .... Is always right and without letting them take advantage of you ... You always bend over backwards to make them happy. If you do you will be rewarded with more business then you know what to do with. In summation .... Mr. Or Mrs. Manager .... You just lost 2 customers tonight because of your stupidity and lack of reason. Also ... I will make sure I always steer people away from your establishment so they can spend their hard earned cash somewhere else.

Originally it would be one star but the friendly manager refunded the ONE item that was dissapointing. First I ordered a mushroom omelet with cheese and tomatoes with hash browns. When we got our items the hash browns were very unappealing and very little, and we were missing another item we ordered. My other half went back up and told them we were missing a item and also told them about the hash browns. He came back and told me the lady said "oh I'll give you the item for free" (for the item we already paid for now) really? How would it be free if I ALREADY PAID FOR IT?!? Btw now to the hash browns...apparently the lady said they ran out of hash browns. WTH!? You telling me THEY RAN OUT OF HASH BROWNS? So when I went up there I told them that the hash browns were very unappealing and very little THE FOUR WORKERS who were in front of me had to ask each if the hash browns looked like that! Really I've eaten at this zippys and many other ones and you guys don't know how the hash browns look like? Wtf. Then the lady who originally helped me her name is Ashley (if you ever get her) she was like "oh is that the hash browns?" I replied yes. But she asked me twice if I ordered hash browns I had to repeat my self twice! Telling her yes! Then with her sassy attitude she said thats how its suppose to be and went to answer the phone then went off to talk to a coworker in the bakery section. Like if your going to bud in don't be giving off bad attitude. One of the four workers that didn't know how hash browns looked like gave me ONE scoop of rice... In the end I got refunded the ONE ITEM. This zippys is so disappointing. Especially the worker name Ashley! P.S. Ashley I think you need to work on some customer skills and that attitude.

OMG! Zippy's is consistent. You can pretty much expect the fried chicken to be golden and crispy, zip min with a piece of shrimp and nori, famous chili with rice and mac salad etc. We had the roast pork special and hamburger steak with brown gravy, rice and mac salad. I'm more of a chicken and fish eater, but just got back from the west coast and we wanted to have our our local kine grinds. As usual, everything was what we expected. Local style delicious and service dependable!

I really don't like being a "Debbie downer" so I must say the counter staff tried their best to make light of a terrible situation. Customer after customer they had to apologize to for a loooong wait. I know it's not easy being the one to get the remarks and THE "looks." For their valiant effort I rated this Zippys one star. I came in to order 2 fried cornbreads, that's it. Nothing special, thinking that hmmm cornbreads they're pretty quick, right? Boy was I totally WRONG! For 2 grilled cornbreads, I placed my order at 5:18pm. At 5:28pm, I was called to the counter and was apologized to for the wait (no kidding) and was offered a few drink or pastry. At 5:35pm I stood up and started waiting now at the counter, already 17 minutes and still no cornbread. 5:38pm I FINALLY get my order. No Bueno, A'ole maika'i, #epicfail. C'mon "Zippys" 20 minute ticket times for 2 pieces of grilled corn bread? AND not to mention I'm not the only waiting forever for my food. Where's the management? Something needs to change. Guess we won't be seeing this "Zippys" for a while.

We came in famished and our waitress was very attentive! Out food was typical diner fare but was good!! I had the breaded mahi mahi. - small portion with broccoli and rice. I ate all of it but was VERY FULL afterwards. The breaking was a bit hard around the edges but the fish was lovely. I'll return for sure!

I'm here to review one thing, and one thing only... Oxtail soup. Yes, you heard me... the oxtail soup. How do you know when an oxtail soup is made particularly well? When every slurrrrp of the broth leaves your lips STICKY. Thats right.. sticky. The stickiness is the result of slow cooking the life out of the beef cartilage, making the broth high in gelatin content from the actual oxtail. That's how u know the meat isn't pre-cooked and thrown into a broth before served to you. And I love that shit (pardon my french...but not really cuz I mean it!) The broth is rich, beefy, and not overly salted filled with copious amounts of peanuts, veggies, and shiitake mushrooms. This is a very hearty soup. The meat itself is literally drip-off-the-bone tender. I can literally slurp the meat & remaining cartilage/ tendon right of the bone. Also, they do NOT and I mean do NOT skimp on the meat portion. Always at least 5 nice sized bone-in pieces along with the bottom-dwelling meat pieces that already fell off the bone during the cooking process. The rice is provided separate in order to leave room in your bowl for larger portions of meat. This meal is soooo worth the money. And this isn't one of those.."I went on a good day" type reviews either I have gone to this location several times and always had the same quality every time. I applaud the chefs back In the kitchen for their consistency. The only catch is that the take-out wait for the soup is about 15-20 mins if you don't call ahead...but its well worth the wait. Touche' Zippys Waipio, you have done me very proud.

I love Zippys. What can I say. So convenient and we usually call in our orders so it's so fast! We went around 7:00 PM so it was super crowded and busy but since we had called in our order, all we did was walk in and stand in the "phone order" line which was actually no line at all. Gave my name and she got my order which was already to go packed in a bag and everything. Perfect. Paid. Then left. So fast. I got spaghetti chicken plate, the Mac salad is definatly not my fav, but their spaghetti is! I'm not sure what exactly it is about Zippys spaghetti that I love but it's just soooooo good. And now that it comes with chicken, in the spaghetti chicken plate, even better! Zippys chicken is really Ono too!! Over all, like I said in the beginning, I love Zippys. Super convenient, and staff is always friendly. Foods consistent. Parking is usually good, but can get super busy, but there's usually always parking at the back. Price is reasonable. And they don't take forever! Just call in your order. Soooooo much faster.

I've never been rushed into ordering my food at any restaurant!!! We actually only came into get to dessert but decided to get something small before getting dessert. There is a fine line between being friendly and being pushing. And this lady did it horribly.. you should never rush soneone. Bottom line...

Over the years, we've noticed that the service has gotten progressively worse and worse. Our Saturday night dinner (outside) has now turned into a 20+ minute wait for the food. I know certain meals take a little longer to prepare and it is busy at times but it is just getting ridiculous. Something is wrong with the system and it needs a tweak. The longest I've waited so far has been 27 minutes for a mahimahi plate at 6pm on a Saturday night. At KTA on the Big Island, they always watch the lines and do whatever it takes to get customers thru fast. There is the infamous "cookie line", if the line gets longer than a certain point, a worker comes out and hands out a cookie to all the customers as an "apology" for the wait. My friend Alton Yamaki had a diner in Bellingham, WA. If he thought that the wait was a little long, he offered his customers discounts because he felt so bad. If its not possible to hire new kitchen aides or whatever it might take, a small token like that of KTA might help to soothe some rising blood pressures and tempers. I actually took a picture of all the people waiting, some checking their order numbers (like checking to see if they won the lottery) but I think it would not be appropriate to show their faces on Yelp without permission. I like this place, please do something so that I can keep on liking it. Edit: November 1, 2014 - We had our regular meal and waited for 23 minutes. Upon getting it, my wife's saimin had VERY little soup. I saw one other person bring his saimin back for the same reason, the counter girl apologized saying that they were preparing more soup. My wife didn't bother bringing it back, she just ate it. We also ordered one item take out for our daughter at home. It was totally wrong, supposed to be bean-less chili, all rice, no mac. Well, it was regular chili with rice and mac. After tonight, we might be done going here at prime time. Maybe better if we went earlier or later. Management, please help this location 'cause I dread the thought of having to drive someplace further away for our Saturday night dinner.

Our favorite Zippys even though we have one near our home. The service is always great here and some of them remember us through the years. I only wish they would turn down the air conditioning because I'm always freezing here. Can't complain about the food because everything tastes good. It's Zippys whats not to love!

Everyone always complains about how busy Zippy's is! Well, duh. Where else are you going to get the delicious Zip Pac with that AMAZING fried chicken?! Haha, just kidding. Anyway, my most recent visit was very good. My best friend took me out on a date (haha) because we needed "girl time". We were served by Abigail, who was very sweet and so quick with our orders. She was so cute. She listened very well to our order and everything came out rather quickly. She also refilled our drinks before we could even ask (which I love about this Zippy's because most of the servers have your drink refilled before you finish your current drink). Overall, since I live fairly close, I've been here many times. The servers are all so sweet and always have a smile on their face (from my experience). I even came here one time during a tsunami warning and all the servers were still serving people with a smile. Most servers would panic and be frustrated, but all the servers still gave their best service.

I pretty much created a yelp just to rate my favorite restaurant, zippys! This location is the best in the leeward area. Clean restaurant, awesome service, and great food! Don't be fooled by the bad reviews here, Waipio is the best! I always appreciate when the manager is out helping their workers get business done! I picked up some of their delicious bread pudding and my favorite.... Korean Chicken! No matter how busy, the food is definitely worth the wait! The reason I write this review, is because the last time I came to this zippys, I received the best service possible. Their bakery clerk Matthew (I had to ask because his name tag says Helms) is very knowledgable on all the products, you can ask him anything! He told me they make the bread pudding fresh, and after tasting it, i believe its the best i have eaten! The moment I stood in line to pick up my phone order, their manager Michele helped me right away and had a cashier ring me up. It took me three minutes to grab, pay , and go! The manager and the rest of the staff working wished me a great night and to come again.... And I definitely will come again!!! The awesome service can only come from great leaders, and it shows. Next stop, Zippys Waipio!

Love it here!! The servers at this location are much more friendly than the waipahu location. Zippy's menu can never let u down. They've got all food varieties to choose from. You can have Beef, Pork or Chicken and the occasional Seafood! But for today I've decided on a Lau Lau Combo with Kalua Pig!

Hamburger steak plate costs $8.20 and only has 1 hamburger patty. To add a second patty, it would be an additional $6. Really?!? You want me to pay over $14? No ways. Plus, they are always slooooooow and always seem to mess up our order. Do not come here...go to Mililani instead!!!

I remember eating at this restaurant and I use to love coming here with my family. But when I started coming here again in the last 4 years, it was horrible. Every time I go I have hopes it'll be better, but I'm always disappointed. I always receive cold and flavorless food. The service is pretty good, I've never had a problem with them, just the food. I wouldn't recommend this location of Zippy's to anyone.

Just gotta say that our server last night was fast friendly! I noticed at this zippys even though they're super busy the servers here are always upbeat and on top of things

The good thing about Zippy's is that they're everywhere, and they're open 24 hrs. (At least most of the branches that I knew). This particular one is closer to us so it's a plus. They offer local comfort food. So whenever you feel hungry or just crave for something comforting, just run to the nearest Zippy's and you'll surely be satisfied. You can't go wrong with their chili. The Napoleon's Bakery beside is also a must try.

This location is clean and spacious. The wait staff are family friendly. The food, though nothing fancy, is made well. Recently opted for breakfast, and since it has been a while since I've dined in a Zippy's, I got to see a revamped and thick laminated menu. The pancakes were crisp and large, bacon crispy and not greasy. When it comes to breakfast, the size of the portions won't blow you away like some other places but for simple fair, my palate was satisfied. Old favorites like Korean garlic chicken were spicy and evenly coated with sauce without too heavy a hand. French fries were crispy. Maybe it was the holidays but everything was well done. Even the pies were quite good and didn't leave me feeling like I needed to go to a bakery for dessert. 4 stars for the food and comfortable dining experience. This location gives the franchise a good name.

This place is always busy but this store is clean especially the bathroom. We come here very often and always forget to compliment them on being so consistent with their service. They always have plenty of servers that pass by to ask if everything is okay. I like this location because its close to home and always such a good atmosphere. Our favorite items are Spaghetti with Garlic Bread and the Korean Chicken. Next stop Zippys!

Great place to eat... It's the Denny's of Hawaii but with more island food menu.. The staff is friendly. Service is quick. The dining room side is pretty big and well kept. If your on the go they have the Togo side which is open late. Enjoy!!!!!

I went there about 3 times, all because we were very desperate for a quick dinner. I ordered a turkey plate it had very little taste to it. It was cold and the proportion wasn't worth the price. My sister ordered a cheeseburger plain and they messed up TWICE. All the time added up to an hour before they came out with a burger that wasn't even plain as requested the first two times. The talk with a manager was a total waste of time because they didn't do anything about it. Don't go to this zippys, totally not worth your time or money.

Although most of the food is pre-made, their is no excuse for the food to be served cold. Granted high school graduations was amongst the many activities during this Memorial Day weekend, training the waitresses should be looked into again. The kitchen were pumping out the orders but the waitresses were slow in picking up the food. Thus cold food. As a person in the food industry as well, giving it one star is being kind...

Can't say enough how wonderful it was to be here on my vacation back to my birthplace. I invited my family to enjoy all the ono food before I had to return home to the Mainland. In total, there were approx 25 family members enjoying their last dinner with me. The service we received was outstanding . I will be back soon. Thank you for making my dream come true.

Ordered a zip pac at 5:40pm and didn't get our food until after 6:00pm. This was the fast food side, not the restaurant. It was not busy. I got my food and the hoki was white- it didn't look cooked at all. It took a while for them to turn around and pay attention to me. But they got me a new one. Everything was good, except the chicken was veryyyyy salty. I should have ordered chili.

While in Oahu we decided to go to a place where locals hang out so we went far from Waikiki and found one of the many Zippy's Restaurant. This one was very clean and the servers very helpful with the questions we had. The food was very good for this type of restaurant and very affordable for a big family. .A local Gem

Boo. This Zippy's is such a monumental let down. Well...the sit down side is anyway. Thats why they get two stars, because the take out side is okay. So every time my wife and I come here, to the sit down side, our service has always been awful. Orders come out wrong, food comes out ice cold, food takes forever to get to us (and when it does it's usually cold AND wrong) and more recently the popular fail is hair and other objects in our food. Yes, more than once my wife and I have discovered hair in our food, all different kinds from long and stringy to short and curly, apparently this zippy's does not discriminate. Most recently, we went there with my mother in law and our son. When our food came out, my rice had an appetizing piece of napkin stuck to it and my wifes mac salad had a delicious nose hair, sticking right to the top! YUM. So of course, our server is no where to be found because she's incompitent and we have to flag down the hostess to let her know whats up. She tells us to wait. No apology? Okay, thats fine. Server comes and gets our food, no apology? HAAAAAAA. So they ignored the fact that my rice had napkin in it, which is...awful, and bring my wife out a new mac salad. Apologies or anything of the sort? OF COURSE NOT! DONT BE RIDICULOUS! What is this, some reality show where people sob and apologize? Naaaah. Anyway, after this last attempt at the sit down side, we shall be calling it quits, and reserving ourselves to the take out side, where the order, funny enough, is always right, always quick and most importantly always free of foreign objects!

I give this place a 4 star! They are always so friendly and always prepare the food the way I order it. I gave it a 4 star because of the prices. The price for the food has gone up every year! But I can always count on my usuals - chili, Korean chicken, zip PAC!

The Parking is a little weird when you get in. But besides that, the set up is okay. It's just like a regular Zippy's. The people and the customer service is great This is why I gave this place four stars: -There usually is always parking -Wait time is minimal -Customer service is better than the usual Zippys -Good (well kind of average) set up -Easy in and easy out

Zippy's is Zippy's...Maybe I just like all Zippy's. Purpose of this particular one was to get dessert. There was a little selection, considering it was quite late on a Saturday. And In my experience all the good stuff is usually better in the morning... But in any case. It's been a while since I had an ensamada so I was actually going to get one of those..and then I noticed the size...It shrunk in size. And I'm much more used to them being extremely large... I did try the strawberry/cream cheese napple...heated...absolutely delicious! I cannot wait to have another! #Yelp 365 Challenge - 085/365

This might be my favorite Zippy's location. Not just because of the location, there's more to it. The dine in staff members are courteous and recognize the regulars. The food is consistently scrumptious and the location is clean and tidy. You never feel rushed to get out of there and you'll be welcomed to return another time. Yay! I'm a fan.

We feel like Cheers here where everyone knows our name. We always get great service from the servers here and my family usually requests to be seated in his or her area. The menu has changed in style - lots of colorful photos and an attractive layout (apparently I have not been here for long time). Our food always comes out as we request (i.e. extra crispy French fries, extra hot ox tail broth, no salt added, certain sauces on the side, etc.). Our table had the kalbi bowl which was pretty yummy-had it with brown rice and the kalbi was Oh so yummy! The meat was soft not gamy or tough. The veggies included (kimchi, cucumbers, watercress) and were just the right amount too. The sauce for the grilled salmon was my least favorite - it just wasn't my thing. The Teri burger and Shrimp burger was cooked well and tasty. We opted for no dessert as the dinner portions were more than enough for us. Throughout our meal we were checked on for any drink refills and if we enjoyed our meal. There is a reason why we frequent this location over all the rest. Tonight was no exception and we will return :)

Love Zippys but bought a 9 piece chicken bucket. I'm hoping upper management looks at yelp to learn how each store is doing with customer satisfaction. We'll the chicken was so salty after 3 pieces shared with my family we could not eat any more and ordered pizza. For about $2.00 per chicken I felt ripped off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Total bill was about 20 bucks........ridiculous

"Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away? Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same You wanna be where everybody knows Your name. " I eat here about 3 or 4 times a week. Everyone knows me here and it feels homey. I love love love teri pork days. The husband and I usually order the chili nachos as an appetizer. And getting a meal is always cheaper than just getting a drink. The people here are super friendly and the bathroom is always spic and span. Bonus points for being open in the middle of the night when my husband needs a belgian waffle. This is my second home!

Okay, let me tell you that I am totally impressed with how Zippys looks into these social media sites and takes action. I got an email from the manager and please know that my prior experience was not about the personnel at the counter, but how awful my chicken katsu was. That being said, I wasn't interested in a free meal, refund, etc. - just upset with how my food had been cremated. After months of staying awat, we recently went back and I thought I'd give the katsu a shot again and if it was terrible, I'd let the manager know pronto. Let me just say Zippys, you guys redeemed yourselves! My katsu was like the old days - crisp, not oily, and very, very ono! Two days later, we went for dinner and I ordered it again in the restaurant - it was great again! So now I'm not surenif you guys just had a bad night the first time I was there or if cooking standards changed, but I can give you the ++++ again!

Not all Zippy's are created equal. Went with a friend to this awesome Waipio location after a special pre-screening of "The Town". After seeing a surprisingly good movie, a surprisingly good dinner was in order. Since it was already late and Jack in the Box has a pretty small selection of food with rice, Zippy's is the natural choice. We were seating very quickly by who seemed to be the only person working the graveyard shift. Jen(n), (one n? two n's? maybe 3 n's???) was such an awesome waitress! Another one to add to the long list of quality servers at this location. Of course we were thirsty as all hell since we are chang-a-lang and didn't buy drinks at the movie. Being the jerk off customers we strive not to be, we drained our drinks pretty quickly, BUT JEN(N) to the rescue! There were like 5 parties in the dining room with us, but she swooped right in and refilled them crazy fast. The food was consistent as always (even though I noticed the chili is a tad spicier recently, recipe change? three times now- in a row, the chili is a little spicier) and appetizing. As ludicrous as this sounds, I really like the Zippy's soups, Portuguese bean and seafood chowder. So after apologizing profusely to Jen(n) I found out she is friends with Malia, an awesome server who used to work at Waipio Zippy's but now works at Outback. I guess awesomeness breeds awesomeness. Keep up the good work!

Zippys is zippys. Their food is pretty much the same at every location. Well to me at least but I give this place 4 stars for customer service! I always receive the best customer service here. Whether it be take-out, dine in & even the bakery. Daniel at the bakery is such a sweetheart! Lol not a creep but just love his personality. Customer service here is on point.

Came here for lunch for daughter #1 last meal with the family. This was not my first choice but it is HER last day. Don't worry no one is going to be exiled, she will be going to Seoul for summer school. We were seated quickly, it's always busy Sunday mornings. We started with the chili cheese fries, husband had Kim Chee fried rice with teri beef & wonton, daughter #1 got won ton mein, daughter #2 got Korean fried chicken & I ordered the Tripe Stew. Fries were not fresh. Soggy & dried out on some parts. Kim Chee fried rice bland. Didn't even finish half of it. Won ton mein was good with lots of veggies and broth was tasty. Korean fried chicken was fried right and sauce not too sweet. Tripe stew was yum! Just wish there was more carrots in it. Overall, food was a disappointment. I will just stick to the chili items!

I love Zippy's it's fast and clean. The food is aways good. The service was excellent. We had a bowl of the famous chilli and rice and of course YOU NEED to add cheese and onions. A small won ton min... yes that goes with the chilli hahaha! A oxtail soup...ok dont get sticker shock from the price but i assure you its worth every penny...or DOLLAR!! LOL! That is my favorite =) Can you say yummmmmm

I guess you can say that this place or chain is an equivanent of Denny's or Norm's. Had their mahi burger which was pretty good. I also had a few servings of their famous chili moco! All I gotta say is that it's one heavy mix of flavors! But what was better was their orange bang shake! SOoooOo good!

Nice Zippy's. It's pretty big, I came here after climbing at the VRG. Like any other Zippy's, EXCEPT that they have really nice art work on the wall... you don't find THAT in Zippy's Kalihi. lol

Ah, ZIppy's how I love thee! Good food, quality people and clean facilities. I know that I didn't grow up with many of the foods on this menu, but I can get a feel for what it would have been like just by eating them now and listening to my wife's nostalgic tales. I've eaten here enough times since I moved to Hawaii that I've developed plenty of my own nostalgic memories. If I am ever forced to leave the island, I think that ZIppy's is one of the things that I'll miss the most.

Came for a late night snack with my friends. They ordered breakfast, and I really just wanted a shake, so I got the orange bang one since its pretty good. I ordered right after them and for some reason I didn't get my food til after 6 more people.... that was more than a 7 min wait. I guess they couldn't find the stuff to make it...? I dunno, but anyway, it was late so I didn't really have the energy to complain, and once I got my order I was happy enough. The only thing I wasn't really happy about was that I ordered a cheeseburger and took it home only to find that there was mold growing out of the bun =\ Too lazy to drive back, so I just tossed it. a $2 burger is not worth getting sick over.... well any moldy food isn't worth it unless you're dying of hunger I guess.

Hawaii food with an all-American fast food twist. Go for: 1) Fried chicken (it's delicious); 2) Famous chili (you can get a small cup to sample, very hearty and not too beefy); 3) Fried Mahi Mahi- delicious with the exclusive Zippy's tartar sauce. YUM 4) I heard the haupei is legit. There's a Naploean's bakery right in the store, so go to town. If you're bad at making decisions with respect to food (me!), get the Zip Pac (Chicken) or Surf Pac (Mahi + Chicken). The pacs come with a generous helping of rice with furikake sprinkled on top. it also comes with a slice of honey-glazed spam (who knew spam could taste this yummy!) and some sort of pork that looks like the Korean BBQ kalbi slices. It's really good, but a little tough.

I love Zippy's food no doubt but I dont like how the Waipio location takes way long to get orders out even when its not busy. Last time I went there, it was 11 PM with almost no other customers and I ended up waiting almost 20 minutes for my order to be picked up. Bad thing is it hasnt been the first time Ive waited longer than usual at this location.

    (2)
  • Alyssa M.

i dont see why calling in your order is any different then from just walking in and ordering. 1. they never answer their phone to place an order. 2. if they do answer like 15mins beforr u get there...u end of waiting for another 30mins anyways. their service is reallly slow and i hate going there but its on my way to Mililani.

    (3)
  • Cheryl K.

Still my go-to Zippy's. We go here once a week and they are usually pretty quick with good service. Whether it be my mini chicken chili plate, saimin, chili cheese fries, etc., I am always satisfied. One of the new things they have is you can order fresh malasadas! Made to order either sugar or cinnamon. I will always love you Zippy's.

  • Chad R.

Food was great, good company with friends, waiter (Kai) provided excellent service. Parking was limited.

    (4)
  • J R.

What can I say about this Zippy's? -Parking is a lot (for a Zippy's to have), though still it's hard to find parking when dining at certain times of the evening. It's okay, if you really want to eat there, street parking is always available. -You wait long for your order. Though this could be said about ALL Zippy's restaurants. They should adopt Jack in the Box's "we don't make it until you order it" and put it on their commercials. -Restaurant side has poor waitstaff. I refuse to eat in the restaurant side because at least twice, we've had poor service. -Dine-in side is okay. Sometimes there aren't enough tables because it gets crowded. When that happens, it's best to get your food to go. -I like that this restaurant is well lit. It's really bright after they renovated it. I also like their LCD monitor that displays the specials of the day. It's also clean. That's a plus! All in all, one of the "better" Zippy's locations that I've been to.

    (3)
  • Kristen C.

#140/365 Came here for a late lunch and it wasnt too crowded. Since its a chain restaurant, theres nothing really different compared to the other restaurants, as in atmosphere and food items. I was in the mood for some hot soup and noodles so I got the mini saimin with a side order of teri beef. Our server was a bit flustered and rushed while she quickly, and I mean very quickly, served us. Even when my bf saw my teri beef and asked for one himself, the server just slid it on the table and never even put the bed of cabbage. Overall, I liked that the noodles in the saimin was al dente, and not too soft. The broth was also very tasty and the whole thing just went well with the delicious teri beef. Service was okay, I can see how she got a bit busy but when it died down, around 2:30-45, she still acted like she was busy haha. Oh wells...zippys will always be zippys and makes for some good eats.

    (4)
  • Claire H.

I admit that I am here at least once or twice a week... it's right behind my office and it's the fastest way to get a meal on those busy days! The food is comforting and the staff is nice.

  • Max K.

I went in for a quick, late lunch and found that this location was empty. I walked in, ordered right away and got my food in just a few minutes. I must say that this was one of the best Zip Pacs I've had in a while. Or maybe it was because I was so hungry for eating lunch at 3:30pm. Anyways, in this electronic age of ours...I downloaded the "mobile coupon" from the zippys.com website and got the Zip Pac for only $6.75. The zippys.com website changes their coupon weekly and the coupon is good from Monday morning to Thursday evening. Hey, call me cheap but every dollar saved nowadays is a big help. I also found out that they only open 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday through Thursday they open at 5am and close at midnight.

    (1)
  • Tammy S.

This is probably one of the worst zippy's that I have been to. No wonder they decided to close this location at midnight, it is probably slow due to the terrible customer service! Especially from the bakery on weekends. I have a couple of people in my family who are diabetic so I ask them for slices of apple pie made with equal...the response I get (not directly at me but of course it is for me) said right in front if me to another employee "I have to cut this pie just for 2 slices!!" My cousin works at the Mililani location where she also works in the bakery and at times is a waitress told me they shouldn't complain because once they slice it they will give it to the restaurant side where they sell cakes and pies by the slice. I'm not going to lie, I did call the main office to complain only because I knew the owners at that time and it would only benefit them to know how their employees are treating customers. I'm usually not the type to complain to managers and supervisors because I normally lash out on the employee themselves...but this happened more than once and the owners are friends. Be careful how you treat customers because you never know...

I've eaten a LOT of tofu burgers from the different locations through the years, and it's always the ones my mom picks up from this location that make me sick. Every.single.time. I was going to post about it on their uh...newly downsized "forum", but it seems they've changed that to only talk about something new on the menu and lame promotions, but not issues.

I had some of the best onion rings EVER at this Zippy's location. They were crispy, salty (but not crazy salty), hot, and just DAMN good. The workers offered me ranch dressing to eat with them. Hmmmm, sure I'll try that; twist my arm.... No termites or flies found in my food at this Zippy's location! Also ordered a small saimin. I liked that it was of consistent quality compared to other Zippy's. I want to know what I'm getting. It was decent and hit the spot. Fed the kamaboko to the future inlaws' dog. He was highly satisfied with that and REALLY was trying to get the onion rings too. Excellent take out. Plenty of parking here. Very convenient location close to the freeway offramp.

  • Christine J.

Got there at 11:04 p.m. And the waitress said that they were closed and that we should go to their take out side. I can understand if it was a smaller business but this is ZIPPYS!! How can they be closed an hour before their normal hours. It wasn't even a legit reason. They just wanted to go home early

    (2)
  • Teresa G.

I took away 1 star because the price of their food has gone up and the price for a plate is expensive. However they have good food. Love their corn beef hash. If you are not in a rush and want to order one of the breakfast bento order it fresh instead of grabbing the one on the counter. You save 30 cents before tax. Might not sound like a lot but it adds up after awhile.

They know me by name, bring my iced tea even before I order. Staff has great sense of humor, always joking around. I love that there's soooo many choices to choose from. Large dessert selection, haupia cake and jello parfait is the two best desserts they have IMHO.

After walking around Waikele's Outlet we decided to go to the nearest Zippy's. Zippy's has always and will be one of the "go-to" eatery places to visit while in Hawaii. Zippy's never fails to disappoint. Service is quick, Staff very friendly. I found this location pretty easy to find thanks to my phone's gps. Sis got the spaghetti w/ garlic bread. I ended up getting the club sammich. I would have gotten their chili but i had that the day before (from takeout). Our entrees as usual were large and plentiful which we ended up sharing and were good. I almost wanted to get something from their Napoleon bakery but managed to refrain myself. Until next time!

  • Tara C.

How could I forget to review you, Zippy's? First off, I love the name- ZIPPY'S! Second, your huge menu hits the spot after a long night of clubbing or for just a casual lunch. I would need a frequent eater's card if I lived in Hawaii. Sure, it's not the best or most authentic plate lunch you can find, but the food is freshly made and available 24 hours so that wins major points. After a night out, I had the Chicken Katsu plate and a bowl of original chili, to go. At 3 AM, on a stomach containing only alcohol, it really tasted amazing. I went back on another day and tried their famous Zip Pac- Spam, fried fish, Korean beef, and chicken I think, over furikake rice. Yum! The food comes out fresh and piping hot, and the little ladies at the counter package it up so nicely. I'm sad that I didn't get a chance to try the saimin while I was there, but everything else was very tasty. FYI- for those hard-core fans of Zippy's chili or curry hamburger here on the mainland, they sell it in the freezer section at Mitsuwa! I saw it yesterday!

Ordered a mini chili hotdog plate for almost $6 and I could not believe that in this expensive plastic container there was "1/2 a hotdog and 3/4 cup of chili". Stood my fork in the chili and the chili was only at the bottom tip of the fork. I called management and wanted to verify if the serving was correct and she said yes. I then asked, "well how many hotdogs do you get with a regular plate and she said, "1". Wouldn't be so bad if the hotdog was the size of a Costco hotdog, but the hotdog is the size of a redondo hotdog which is only 5", so half of that is only 2-1/2". I told management that Zippy's should go back to paper plates, get rid of the expensive containers then they can at least serve a whole hotdog on the mini plate. With the economy the way it is, Zippy must not be hurting in order to spend their monies on expensive containers or....they have to serve less food in order to compensate for the containers. What a joke!
