Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream gave me a scoop of azuki bean ice cream in a cup. In return, I gave Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream my money : )

The wonderful thing about Hawaii is that there is a lot of Asian-American fusion in cuisine. Some of the best fusion came out of the West Coast and Hawaii. There is no better example of this than in ice cream. Prior to moving to Hawaii, I had only been exposed to standard chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream. Sure, there were your "wild" ones like "Birthday Cake" or "Cotton Candy," but I really had no perspective until I stopped into Dave's Ice Cream. When you first walk in, you see a lot of familiar flavors. For those of us who like to stick to the things we know, they have the selection for that. But if you're feeling more adventurous, Dave's can introduce you to some pretty high quality, flavorful ice cream. As you look through all the flavors you find stuff like taro, green tea, azuki and kona coffee! Now for local folks, I'm sure this is no big deal. I think these flavors have been available for a long time. But for a mainlander like myself, I was MIND BLOWN. I had never heard of any of these flavors before. (What was azuki??) I love tea! And I love ice cream! Who was the genius who thought of blending the two together? It's incredible! Simply put, Dave's introduced me to a brand, new world of ice cream with Asian flavors. I am absolutely addicted to green tea ice cream now and I always order it here or anywhere else that serves it. (I've never found a place that makes their green tea ice cream as bold as Dave's yet, though.) I like this place a lot better than Baskin Robbins because of their selection and quality of ice cream. You absolutely have to stop by this summer and grab a scoop or two!

Quite expensive! Paid $3.99 for a super small single scoop of green tea ice cream and $5.99 for a small bag of Mochi popcorn. The green tea ice cream was okay but not enough for me to come back again!

This place is way over priced, plus the employees were not friendly. The bubble Tea was not real fruit. I would not go there mo more

Tasty shave ice! Although a bit steeper in price than Mountain Magic, if you're looking for a strawberry syrup that packs in flavor, this is your place! Even better, you can get it with Dave's vanilla ice cream!

  • Michael S.

THIS is the spot! Customer service from all the employees is top notch. All of them smile and give a good vibe. Ice cream is always a win, especially, from dave's ice cream.

Best Banana Split I've ever had! VERY expensive ($8) but it is probably worth it. SOOO good!

    (4)
  • P M.

They have one of the best shave ices on the island! Their ice is soft and fluffy, and their syrups are really yummy! To me, the syrup makes all the difference in a good shave ice, and I'd rank Dave's Waipio's syrup above the Waikele cart and Shimazu's.

I've been coming to this Dave's since I was a little boy relying on my parents to get me my fix. The place has some welcome change which included a super cute new paint job, a new menu board and the awesomest Jelly Belly station I've ever seen! (with that being said the only Jelly Belly station I've ever seen....) The Ice Cream is no nonsense and straight to the point, no ridiculous names or added fluff to try and add extra b.s. to the cost. The Ice Cream is just plain delicious and will always make a crappy day dissipate into pure comfort amidst your waffle cone, sprinkled joy! ....Guys take note.... If you piss off your significant other, or they been working hard and you notice they are in a really grouchy mood, pick up a mini-cone on the way to see them. It may not last as long as flowers, BUT the effects are just as good if not BETTER than the usual "I'm sorry" / "pick me up" shtick! WARNING! This place is CASH only!!!! If you need to get some $$'s there is a American Savings next door in Foodland as well as a Bankoh ATM at the Aloha Gas station across the parking lot. =0)

HALO HALO - because you can't grow up in a Waipahu zip code without learning how to enjoy the national Filipino dessert. Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream is my personal favorite local ice cream maker. I grew up on mini cones, nutty buddies, and bon bons as a young local boy, and have since 'graduated' to hand packed pints for special occasions. Dave's Ice Cream lives up to its label as a gourmet ice cream. Every bite and flavor leaves you with a full, satisfying feeling. Dave's selling point is producing unique local favorites, including ube (Okinawan sweet potato), macadamia nut, chocolate chip mochi, among others. Ice cream takes special form in Dave's ice cream cakes which are beautifully crafted. These ice cream cakes are ideal to serve parties of 8-12, and are best when custom ordered. If you're in a rush, you can always pick up pre-packed pints including: -- chocolate macadamia, -- coconut macadamia, -- green tea, -- hawaiian mud pie, -- lychee sherbert, and -- mango sherbert. Ever since the Ala Moana Sears location closed, the Aiea and Waipio Dave's Ice Cream locations have become the best source of their gourmet ice cream. It's well work the drive from town for these treats, especially if you're expecting a little more from your ice cream.

I've been coming to this Dave's ever since I could probably walk. The mini cone with sprinkles is still my all time favorite. Bringing back the hanabata days. The prices have gone up significantly with quality staying the same. Which is why I couldn't give this childhood store 5 stars. The store isn't maintained very well. Tables and floors are very dirty and sticky from what looks like a week of ice cream spills and what not. Overall, if you're in the area and looking for something sweet this would be my recommendation.

  • Greg C.

OK, sounds like I don't like Dave's with only 3-stars. If you know me, I'm not an ice cream hater, I just don't like whipping out all the cash in my wallet for the cold stuff. Hell, they're expensive! Yes, they did just redecorate the place with more 'ice cream parlor' colors, but the table moved SOOOO easy when you're digging your spoon into your hot fudge sundae, you need to keep one hand on the table edge and one on the cup of ice cream. Unless you have a third hand, you're going to have a hard time eating. Thus, buy it and leave. Great ice cream, high prices, cheap tables!

Dear Dave's Ice Cream, I know I have been unfaithful as of late (with froyo), but now that I have you back, I am very much back in love with you. Your frozen bonbons, ice cream sandwiches, and cookies and cream ice cream are a short list of your best qualities. I was wrong to indulge in that poser, froyo. You're the real deal. xoxo grant

For my 100th review, I wanted to choose something special. What's more special than ice cream?! This place is within walking distance from my house. There have been many a time where I've treated myself to an ice cream cone after my evening walkies. Don't judge me! If I'm feeling *really* healthy, I'll get some chocolate covered frozen grapes instead. It's invisible chocolate after you've exercised. Promise! *crosses fingers* Anywho, my usual is mint chocolate chip or cookie dough on a keiki sugar cone. On occasion I've been known to get kulolo, green tea, mac nut, or even rocky road on those really naughty nights. Mrawr! They make fresh fruit smoothies and also have bubble drinks with no bubbles. Which really baffles me. They only have popping boba, which is still good. If they had really mochi ball bubbles, I'd be here every day instead of every other. The last time I bought a humongous mangrove plant in a planter. Some kind of fundraising for the church. What can I say? I'm a sucker for fundraisers! (Please sell me your portuguese sausage, chili, and pizza tickets, thank you!) The peeps working there are always nice, friendly, and have on occasion gone out of their way to please their favorite customer (that's ME! I'll arm wrestle WHOEVER!!!) Gotta go. Time for evening walkies!

Cool place, but be sure you have cash! We had family in town from Texas and we had to take them out for a shave ice treat. The staff here is very friendly and my family loved watching them make it. Got two rainbow shave ice and shared between 4 adults and 1 child all for roughly $11. We will be back!

Yummy Yummy in my tummy! I totally stopped in just on a whim with all intention of trying the shave ice...Cause I'm a shave ice queen and I need to have it all! and then... I looked at all the colors and flavors of their ice cream offerings and there went the shave ice idea...Frozen bon bons...and clown cones....and all the yumminess that was in the cooler. Well, as I only had 5 bucks on me, sad but true, I knew I would have to make my choice count...So I did what anyone would do. TASTE TEST!!! I ended up stopping after one. Hahahaha. I chose a sugar cookie ice cream because it was laced with pretty colors. And it was like a frozen creamy cookie. Had it in a regular cone, not a sugar cone. I think the round flat bottom allows for more ice cream than a pointy bottom...I could be totally off but in my head, I'm getting more ice cream. As I had walked to the Foodland next door in my attempt to be healthy that idea also totally died as I walked home with groceries and ice cream in tow! P.S. It was heavenly btw. Cannot wait to go back for a different flavor! #Yelp 365 Challenge - 155/365

Great variety of goodies: ice cream, popcorn, jelly bellys, shave ice, and more). Pros: Variety Ice cream - lots of flavors. Tasty, but I like mine creamier. Nice signs Cons: Employees not very friendly. A smile and a thank you can go a long way. Cash only

We walk into Dave's Ice Cream Parlor in Waipio and are greeted by smiling faces. Without even a glance at the extensive menu up above or the lines of ice cream flavors on display, you turn to me and say... You, casually: So. What's good here? Me, raises an eyebrow, uncertain whether you're serious: Uh, like, EVERYTHING? You, incredulously: Really? Me: Well, yeah, basically! You: Ok, you're not helpful. Me: Well, fine. What are you in the mood for? They have ice cream cones, bon bons, ice cream cookie sandwiches... You, interrupting: Anything else? Me: Well, sure... There's the frozen chocolate dipped fruits - cherries, grapes, strawberries, bananas... You, interrupting again: Anything else? Me, pointing to the menu board and other places in the store, looking like a wild monkey: Bubble drinks? Shave ice? Popcorn? Jelly beans? You: I can read, you know. Me, teasing: You sure about that? You, laughing: Alright, alright. What do you recommend? Me: THE GREEN TEA ICE CREAM! Strong green tea taste and while sweet, not overly sweet. Hands down, favorite flavor! My other favorites are Ube and Coconut Macadamia Nut. Sooo mouth watering! You, pointing at the drool falling from the corner of my mouth: I can see that. Me, wiping my drool: Oops... So what are you thinking of getting? You: Well, that depends... What AREN'T you getting? For the indecisive, they make BON BONS in various flavors. My favorite is probably the Mint Chip, even though they make Green Tea bon bons. While I can be indecisive, the main reason I buy bon bons is because it's good to eat on the go! That's right, folks! Finally! An ice cream dessert you can safely eat while driving! PS - Cash only!

I've been going to Dave's here in Waipio ever since I can remember. They've had different owners over the years, but their ice cream was always THE BEST! Its been a while since I've visited Dave's, but when I stopped by for a treat the other day I noticed that they serve more than just ice cream: halo halo, acai bowls, popcorn, shakes, smoothies, boba tea, and even have a selection of jelly beans and novelty candies. For the old timers of Daves, they still got the usual flavors, the Bon bons, nutty buttys, sandwhich cookies, mini cones, and their famous cookies and cream ice cream pie. As far as pricing goes, it is kinda expensive, which is why I wish they accepted credit cards, but can't beat the quality and taste! Btw...wished they brought back the "Oscar the Grouch"...was a childhood favorite!

  • Leizl C.

Delicious Halo Halo! I haven't tried anything else on their menu, but the Halo Halo was yummy. I felt like the price was OK, spent $6.27 for it.

  • John T.

Their products are very good, with my favorites being their green tea ice cream and mud pie. However, the prices have gone through the roof. I am a lifelong resident of Waipio and have been going there since I can remember (at least for 15 years but probably a lot longer). I just went there yesterday because my family wanted a mud pie. I decided to get a mini cone. But my jaw dropped when I saw that their bon bons are 99 cents each! Back in the day, these were 25 cents each. I understand the concept of inflation but come on!

#24/365 Came here a few weeks ago with my friend and it has really changed. They have more menu items/creations and they also have a little candy bar on the left with the addition of various jelly beans that you can buy by the pound. One of the older ladies, who seems like the owner, it very nice and cheery. Me and my friend got the cake sundae with their white cake (also choice of chocolate), two scoops of ice cream, which we got green tea and coconut, and choice of topping which we chose mochi and its also topped with a sauce, which we chose hot fudge, and finally with your traditional whipped cream, cherry and nuts. They also have bubble drinks and shave ice, and in their cold case, ice cream pies/cakes, and other little frozen goodies. Overall a tasty place to grab some yummy ice cream.

  • Diana Y.

My friend hyped this place up so much and surprisingly, it lived up to the hype. The icecream here is YUMMY IN MY TUMMY! Coconut Macadamia- apparently their signature one, was super yummy. Green Tea- EVERYONE raves about this. It was definitely good, very subtle but good nonetheless. Hawaii Mud Pie- Yay for chocolate goodness. Oh screw it, just get all of them. I don't know how to describe it but all of them had it's own unique flavor, very dense and very creamy. Just get them all. Oh hell, get every single flavor, I'm sure they're all equally delicious.

I came here with my foodie friend cause she suggested we go dave's after eating a nice big lunch. There was a line, so we looked around at all the flavors first. We tried out three flavors and ended up picking Hawaiian Mud Pie. We bought it in a waffle bowl, but the Styrofoam cup was a bit too small so I regret to say that we got crumbs all over the counter. It was so crisp and crunchy though, so it went well with the mud pie topped off with marshmallow syrup (which I haven't had before). That was about ~$5 bucks if I remember correctly. While eating our delicious ice cream, we eyed the display case with all these ice cream goodies and we ended up getting a cotton candy clown cone (~$3). 4C's of goodness. We let it sit a bit as we shared our mud pie so the gummy bears wouldn't be so solid. Oh yeah, when I was paying for the 4C, the cashier lady was singing "party in the USA". Quad C for we: Dave, you are a good man.

Dave's has got to be the best ice cream on the island. My fave is the Kona Coffee. I love how it is thick and creamy yet light at the same time. The only reason for not getting five stars is that I tried their milk tea boba for the first time today. Not great at all. The boba was hard, some I had to spit out, they were that bad. I'm not sure if it wasn't fresh or not cooked well enough in the first place. I will definitely stick to the ice cream next time.

I decided to go over to Dave's this afternoon after deciding not to stand in the long line at Borders at Waikele. One of the things I really like about Dave's is their halo halo. I tried the halo halo at Shimazu since it was hyped up by some people I've talked to, but the halo halo at Dave's is soooo much better! Granted, I haven't had genuine halo halo for a while....but nonetheless, it helps satisfy my craving. Their ube ice cream is really, really good and I like how it tastes with the other ingredients. Dave's is also a place to get ICEE floats. :) They recently painted the inside of the store with this bright green color, which really makes it stand out against the other stores. If you're ever in the area and wanting ice cream, check Dave's out.

  • Jessica S.

Dave's has really good ice cream. I got the frosted sugar cookie flavor which was awesome. Tasted a lot like a frosted sugar cookie, and definitely hit the spot! My hubby got the chocolate mac nut, which was also quite tasty! I am an ice cream freak though, so something would have been seriously wrong if I didn't like Dave's. The only down side is it is cash only, and I rarely carry cash, which I am learning living on Oahu is one thing I must change. But really, that is nothing to complain about because the ice cream is AWESOME! :)

    (4)
  • Char Y.

really good macadamia nut ice cream, BUT the seriously small scoop (1/2 cup??) STINGY!!!

  • Nicole R.

OMG! This place has changed soooo much since I've been here last. But luckily they didn't get rid of my favorite ice cream flavors & creations. Usually I come here just to get a chocolate covered banana, cherries, or grapes and a mini chocolate or sprinkles cone. It's perfect on a really hot day. However they're more know for serving Hawaii's best ice cream! When I came here last, I had a smoothing with popping boba and I loved. The consistency was great and it was made with real fruit. My boyfriend had the halo halo, I thought it was weird because it wasnt traditional filipino halo halo, but he liked it because it was very different. I can't wait for summer, because I'll be coming back here.

    (5)
  • Pam P.

Dave's menu has expanded quite a bit since my younger days, but my all time favorites are still the Kahlua Fudge and the chocolate-dipped mini cones :) The sugar cones are fresh, light, and crispy, the people here are super nice and friendly, and the shop's atmosphere is colorful and inviting! My family loves the green tea ice cream (we always buy a pint to take home), and I've heard that the halo halo is pretty awesome as well :D

  • Lynn C.

Five stars for the green tea ice cream, hands down. I've strayed and gone the ol' mint chocolate chip route, the cookies and cream, coffee, etc. but when you go to Dave's, you go for the green tea ice cream. They used to sell the ice cream at Times and Costco (or so my mother tells me) but they stopped! I drove to Times, then Costco then I went to Dave's in Waipio to finally get this green treasure. It's not too sweet, not too green tea-ey either. This is my standard of green tea ice cream awesomeness. I got mine in a waffle cone (single scoop waffle cone is about 4 bucks versus the 4 bucks for the FULL pint of green tea) which I found to have a flat bottom instead of the usual V cone bottom. It helped catch the ice cream drip but it didn't help me eat it neatly; I got the ice cream everywhere. Mommy was not pleased (especially since I asked her to drive so I could eat).

    (5)
  • Chrizzle D.

Cotton Candy. That's all I really need to say. The size of the scoop was modest, but I was lookin' for someone to cut me off. Might not be the best for people who want good value (paid $4.01 for a modest single scoop in a waffle cone).

    (5)
  • Nicole K.

I'm such a huge fan of Dave's. When I was in high school, my mom would always make a pit stop here for some ice cream. Guri Guri used to be my absolutely favorite. I guess it still kind of is. But I like Dave's green tea ice cream :) We buy pints, and I can eat those in one sitting. It's pretty bad. Sadly, now I'm slightly lactose intolerant, so I can't come here as often. But when I got hooked on their sorbet ... that was it!!! It's so good. And I can eat as much as I want :D

  • Geraly M.

I remember going here was a little kid and we stopped around there so I decided to go in. It took awhile till they asked me what I wanted. They were nice though. I like the different selections of ice cream and the many other different things to get instead of ice cream. The prices are too high though, especially for the size of the scoops. Baskin Robbins is a little cheaper and with a little more bigger size. What disappointed me was that I got to scoops of ice cream. The Hawaiian Mud Pie and the cookie dough. I love the Hawaiian Mud Pie, and cookie dough was my all time favorite ice cream, what I looked forward to was the cookie dough pieces, but I was eating through it, hoping for a cookie dough on the next bite, when I ate all the cookie dough ice cream, I tasted the actual cookie dough once. It was such a disappointment. It was pretty much just vanilla ice cream.

  • Tony K.

My review is based off of the prepackaged ice cream which may be different than the one that's scooped buy when I asked for a pint that's what I got. The choc mac was just average and a little icy. The green tea was smooth and creamy. I am not a huge Ice Cream eater, but this place wins it for me. The Ice Cream textures, flavors, and variety is great! If you are in the area you will not be disappointed.

Oh man, I love Dave's ice cream! But who doesn't love ice cream!? Dave's is really some of the best though. Their green tea ice cream is the one that most of the nicer restaurants in Waikiki serve. When my wife and I are eating out and they bring us the dessert menu, she'll ask if the green tea ice cream is from Dave's. On the rare occassion that they say that it isn't, she will get something else! On to this location. Like everything in the Waipio shopping center, it's in walking distance from my house. This is acutally a bad thing as its entirely too tempting to stop by when my wife and I go for our evening walks! The service here is polite and fast, but not overly competent. The last time that I was there, they forgot to but the bubbles in my wife's smoothie. They also pre-chop, sort and ziplock their fruit for the smoothies. Not a terrible thing, as long as you want one of their pre-sorted smoothies with 4-5 different fruits. If you're looking for a single flavor, you're out of luck. It would also be better if they used a fruit juice as the base for their smoothies instead of water. Their ice cream can't be beat, so as long as you're not after anything complicated, this is a great place to get your dessert on!

    (4)
  • Gerald N.

When I arrived, I was third in line. The service is poor, the two customers in front of me were more polite than any one of the workers who appeared to be annoyed that they had to work. The workers were turning to walk away while handing the ice cream to the customers, so if the customer were to thank them, they would be thanking the workers backs. I bought $60 of ice cream for the kids I was picking up from soccer, and even the kids noticed how rude these workers are. This was my second visit this store. The first visit I just had one kid and the service was about the same, but not to this level of rudeness. Note: My second visit occurred over a year ago, but since I go to Foodland frequently, I still remember the service each time I pass Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream and the kids still refer to the store as "The junk place".

  • Julie H.

My mom would bring me and my brother here all the time. I love their green tea ice cream. It's my favorite ice cream in the entire world. My brother always gets the icee float with strawberry icee and the green tea ice cream. I know it sounds weird... but the green tea ice cream doesn't taste that much like green tea. I dunno how to explain it but it's so good. I wish costco would sell it again! They used to have the lychee sorbet and green tea ice cream pint packs. :( My other favorite is their halo halo. YUM YUM!!!!

    (5)
  • Eileen S.

Ahhh now that's the Kona Koffee ice cream I remember. Wish CA had some of this for those hot summers.

    (5)
  • Cara H.

Lemon Custard is my all time favorite ice cream flavor! It is not sour or too sweet, but lemony and creamy, love it with a sugar cone :) Also they have the cutest mini chocolate dipped ice cream cones. Dave's is a local chain, so they have a lot of Hawaiian and tropical flavors as well.

    (5)
  • June O.

Love the new jellybean installation they put in there. I wasn't too sure about the green colored walls when they were first renovating but it turned out nice. Btw, they only take cash. LAME.

  • Devin F.

the Waipio Dave's Ice Cream has changed drastically... if you haven't been there i a while, please go and check it out... they completely remodeled and it is soo colorful and cheerful... they also have a jellybean dispensing machine... fair prices, but the items are always delicious!!!

  • Angie A.

Been coming to this place since elem kiddy school days! (i'm 26 now ^_^) It was always a afternoon treat with my grandpa~! I miss the old feel to it.. It feels more up to date and not so homey anymore.. Remember the old sundae pictures and the elementary pictures they had hanging?! Aww the memories haha! anyway! The prices are jacked up high also! But the ice cream has never changed :) I still chose this place over baskin robins/cold stone or any other ice cream place anyday!

Halo halo was not close to being a halo halo!!! So very disappointed!! took my family to this place since they were visiting Hawaii and wanted some dessert. Wasn't impressed!

  • Serenie S.

I don't know if all the Dave's have slightly different ice cream but when I went to the one in Pearl City I almost barfed because it tasted so different. I love the ice cream here compared to Baskin Robbins. My favorites are the cotton candy, chocolate chip cookie dough, strawberry and ube!!!! I also get banana and vanilla shave ice. =] The people here are nice too.

    (4)
  • Anthony L.

$5.99 for halo-halo is way too high. The prices have gone up since the re-model of the inside of this Dave's ice-cream last year...someone's goota pay for the new jelly belly dispenser inside. The ice-cream is good only because its the only place to go in waipahu

    (2)
  • Peter C.

LOVED the Hawaiian Mud Pie, my new favorite ice cream! And, LOVED the halo-halo! I've been told by some credible filipinos that it's the best on the island! :-D Their selection of Jelly Bellys is pretty impressive too! :-)

    Worse shaved ice in town

  • Rita L.

the best chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream! soo good! they really give huge portions of ice cream too! the hubby really did enjoy his one scoop of chocolate ice cream! the ube ice cream is pretty good too...

  • Christina L.

We visited twice in 3 days...hahaha. It was REALLY good and refreshing under the humid weather. Only thing is I wish we sampled more ice cream flavors esp now that I'm reading up on other reviews. BUT, can't complain...their Shave Ice w/ ice cream is a favorite. I promise to next time try the other flavors.

Their shave ice with ice cream is delicious on a really hot day. It's a definite bonus that you can buy pints of their amazingly good green tea ice cream and have yourself a treat in the comforrt of your own home.

we went to get good "Hawaiian" ice cream and were not let down. Hawaiian Mud Pie and Banana were awesome flavors!!

  • Trisha G.

Yay for being so close to a Dave's Ice Cream. This place was busy on National Ice Cream Day. The selection of desserts and drinks was surprising, but I really come here for the ice cream. Ube or Kulolo and a second flavor for fun. The cheesecake flavors are yum and you can get the standard cup, cake or sugar cone along with waffle bowls. Definitely a place to go and support local. I may have to come regularly for the hand packed pints.

  • Kristi D.

I haven't been to Dave's in years and was amazed at the changes! A great selection of local flavors, halo halo, smoothies, bubble tea, acai bowls, shaved ice, and other specialty desserts. I had two scoops - one kulolo and one kahlua fudge - amazing! Tons of free parking, too. Beware - it's cash only, but there is an ATM right next door. Totally worth the calories!

Ice cream from here is Ono, but the hired help needs improvement! If store hours close at 9pm, then polite courteous service should be a given. Once door was locked before 9pm, tonight a customer was turned away @ 859pm. Sad, the owners need to look into the matter. Or Risk losing future customers!

Love the things they sell but soo overpriced. Luckily their the only ice cream joint around here so I guess they can. Came in because I was craving some hurricane popcorn @ 2pm. Girl @ the front tells me "Do you mind waiting, we don't pop @ this time since we're slow?" I asked "What time do you close?" She replied "9pm." Don't know if she got the hint but I waited and am writing this review. I worked @ a candy store in Pearl City for over 3 years while I was in high school and know that was not good customer service not having ready popcorn so early in the day. You should have at least a small bag worth of popcorn in there at all times. I understand if it was 7 or 8pm but 2pm come on now.

The sweetest elderly Oriental lady worked at this Dave's when I stopped by on a rainy Saturday. While other tour bus people were wandering around elsewhere, my favorite sweet treat called out to me. The store--in a strip mall--was a little rough around the edges but possessed that quaint and funky North Shore Hawaiian "charm." I even asked the very nice old granny if there really was a "Dave" and she mumbled something I did not understand. However, that ice cream was looking yummy, despite the rainy weather outside. Normally I would select my go-to coffee-type flavors but as I was vacationing in paradise and determined to "go island," I chose a Coconut-Macadamia Nut scoop and not surprisingly, it was awesome. I got a taste sample of the Green Tea ice cream and that was good, too. In fact, I think it would be impossible for anything here at Dave's to not just be damn wonderful. Had to deduct 1 YELP STAR for a somewhat tacky strip mall that Dave resides in and the fact that those scoops in this Hawaiian-retro shop are pricy...but worth it!

Dave's ice cream please lower your prices. Only someone who has really and I mean REALLY good ice cream can charge that much. It is an okay ice cream shop, but I feel like they cater to tourists. I guess that's fine, I'll just go to McDonald's and cry in my $1.00 ice cream cone alone! Anyways they cool, will be back when its screaming hot.

OK, here is the inside word - ask for the mango smoothie. It's not mixed with ice cream, just frozen mango from aunties back yard and mixed with a little apple juice. It is outstanding. If you need it a little sweeter, have them add a touch of honey. But it's plenty sweet and smooth mango flavor. There is banana in it as well. Hurry though, because they will run out soon. Next season will be back. I hope she has a good crop next year. S

My kids love this place. I always take them here to celebrate small accomplishments or if they need a little cheering up. We always usually get the halo halo. It's pretty big so we usually share. And they like it from here because they don't put beans in which normally is in halo halo. They like everything in this Dave's Halo halo except the raisins which I usually eat for them. Making special memories with the kids.

This place is good but a little pricey for how much you get, and FYI its the same price if you get a cup or a cone, so always get a cone :) If your looking to get an acai bowl please don't have high expectations because it's half frozen and nothing is fresh. :(

Based on the reviews from other I decided to go to this place right before my flight home for halo halo. I had about an hr before the rental car was due so I took the 20mins to drive to this place. Well it is clean, service is pleasant price is $$. Ice cream: I didn't order but my bf did and he did not like it. He ordered rocky road (his fav) he said the ice cream tasted like it had been sitting in the back of the freezer. Had a stiffness and stickiness to it. He eats ice cream everywhere we go and never really complains about it. How can you mess up ice cream HALO HALO; the whole reason I went out of my way.... I know it can be made differently but this did not meet my standards. Most halo halo has jackfruit, beans, coconut, jellies condensed milk ube ice cream and of course the shaved ice. I guess this establishment doesn't like it that way and just gives jellies, strawberries with syrup and bananas. With the shaved ice and ube. I was disappointed but did not want to waste the money, I should have just went to jollibee They get 3 stars for the clean store and the awesome service, not the bad ice cream and the disappointing halo halo

Tasty shave ice! Although a bit steeper in price than Mountain Magic, if you're looking for a strawberry syrup that packs in flavor, this is your place! Even better, you can get it with Dave's vanilla ice cream!

They have one of the best shave ices on the island! Their ice is soft and fluffy, and their syrups are really yummy! To me, the syrup makes all the difference in a good shave ice, and I'd rank Dave's Waipio's syrup above the Waikele cart and Shimazu's.

You're the real deal. xoxo grant

Cotton Candy. That's all I really need to say. The size of the scoop was modest, but I was lookin' for someone to cut me off. Might not be the best for people who want good value (paid $4.01 for a modest single scoop in a waffle cone).

Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream gave me a scoop of azuki bean ice cream in a cup. In return, I gave Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream my money : )

  • Kayla M.

Quite expensive! Paid $3.99 for a super small single scoop of green tea ice cream and $5.99 for a small bag of Mochi popcorn. The green tea ice cream was okay but not enough for me to come back again!

My review is based off of the prepackaged ice cream which may be different than the one that's scooped buy when I asked for a pint that's what I got. The choc mac was just average and a little icy. The green tea was smooth and creamy.

Cotton Candy. That's all I really need to say. The size of the scoop was modest, but I was lookin' for someone to cut me off. Might not be the best for people who want good value (paid $4.01 for a modest single scoop in a waffle cone).

Love the new jellybean installation they put in there. I wasn't too sure about the green colored walls when they were first renovating but it turned out nice. Btw, they only take cash. LAME.

YUM YUM!!!!

$5.99 for halo-halo is way too high. The prices have gone up since the re-model of the inside of this Dave's ice-cream last year...someone's goota pay for the new jelly belly dispenser inside. The ice-cream is good only because its the only place to go in waipahu

LOVED the Hawaiian Mud Pie, my new favorite ice cream! And, LOVED the halo-halo! I've been told by some credible filipinos that it's the best on the island! :-D Their selection of Jelly Bellys is pretty impressive too! :-)

I am not a huge Ice Cream eater, but this place wins it for me. The Ice Cream textures, flavors, and variety is great! If you are in the area you will not be disappointed.

My review is based off of the prepackaged ice cream which may be different than the one that's scooped buy when I asked for a pint that's what I got. The choc mac was just average and a little icy. The green tea was smooth and creamy.
