This was the last dinner we had before going home to Las Vegas. As the saying goes, we saved the best for last. Our waiter, Beau, and his assistant, Jake, made our dining experience one we will always remember. My girlfriend and I had the Opakapaka, my friend's husband had the New York steak, and my husband had the Grilled Hawaiian Opah. OMG......all dishes were prepared to perfection!!! All of us would definitely eat there again.

Very pretty location at the Fairmont Hotel, perfect for sunset dining. Servers were great! The scallops in adobo sauce and rack of lamb were delicious!

Very very very poor management. There're mice, rats, coachroaches and other bugs in the kitchen. None of the staff cares about customer service. Maybe due to the fact that the"boss" is not very nice and doesn't care for his employees. The food is over priced for what it is. Not fresh. Frozen. The abalone is straight from the freezer for $120.00!!!!! I have no idea why this place is still open. From behind the line I can say that this"food establishment" is just that. Established. Only thing nice I have to say about nicks is the crew try to make it as fun as possible for what it is. This is not a retaliation, this is me being honest. They will drop your food on the ground and rinse it off and serve it to you with no hesitation. They can't keep employees because they treat them like garbage. No amount of money could have kept me employed at nicks. The amount of stress that place puts on its workers is not worth the money they give them. I hope for their sake things change because if it were for a "real" health inspector to come in there, they would be shut down faster than you can say"roach in my food" good luck dicks.

After dozens of trips to Maui, I have to state that the dinner I had was the single worst meal I have ever had in the State of Hawaii. The setting was a bit Vegas-like, but that was not a deal breaker. The deal breaker was the horrible food. The menu listed several seafood items which were all overly fussy. I asked the server if it was possible to get a simple grilled fish and he rolled his eyes and said "I guess. I'll have to ask." So, my husband and I decided to each order 2 appetizers. He had the sashimi, which was excellent and his second app was potstickers which were gummy. I had the crab cake which tasted like it was sorely missing a key ingredient; namely crab! My second app was a salad which included a variety of ingredients including avocado, shrimp and lettuce. What I was served was a lump of mush. There was not one identifiable ingredient on that plate. I asked the sever what had happened to the lettuce and he replied that it was chopped up with the rest of the ingredients. To his credit, he did take it off of the check.

We ate at Nick's last night on the suggestion of our concierge. The food was what you'd expect from typical resort food and was about on par with the food we had at the Fairmont on the big island. My pot stickers were good by themselves, but they were covered in an insanely sweet, syrupy sauce that destroyed the flavor of the wonderful pork inside. There was also a coleslaw in the center of the plate with absolutely no flavor. My wife had the filet for her main which was terrible to say the least, and I had the dayboat catch which was ok, but the vegetables below it might as well have come out of a freezer bag they were so bland. I had sorbet for dessert which was so grainy it was almost inedible and my wife had strawberries and devonshire cream which might as well have been dumped on a plate from a cafeteria line. The pacing of our service was god awful- our first courses came out moments after we ordered them and our main courses came out within seconds of giving up our appetizers. Also, our plates from our entrees sat on the table for 10 minutes or so before anyone offered to clear them. We had no less than 5 servers for our table which ultimately meant we could never find one when we needed them. The prices are resort high, which is to be expected on Maui. Frankly, for your money there are significantly better places on Maui- hell, even Spago is at the same price point and there the food is wonderful. Don't waste your time or money.

Nick's is known for it's amazing seafood, customer service and breath-taking views (see website pics!). It's attached to the Fairmont Kea Lani in Maui - that's right, it's the bomb. I'm not sure where to begin. Well, since you need to be seated first, be sure to request a seat on the terrace/deck. You can watch the sun set under the warm, starry skies through the palm trees [sigh...]. After they give you a moment to weep with glee, then you order. The service is top notch. They never leave you unattended but they aren't overbearing, either. They're there to pull out chairs when you get up, refold the napkins, refill glasses, etc. The seafood is fresh out of the ocean that day! I had the sea bass and nothing has ever topped that dish. Maybe here in SF, but SF isn't Maui. If you're on this island, make it a point to get reservations here. The great part is that it's not difficult or impossible. Most vacationers don't know how awesome this place is so there's hope. Aloha
