It is great to find a healthy place in the Islands and Joy's offers really good food (and good deserts)! If you are looking for some good healthy food in Maui, check out Joy's!

Joy's place is wonderful. If you don't think you like vegetarian food, or just want to experience some of the best that vegetarian food has to offer, visit Joy's. I had the Live Burrito Supreme, and it was scrumptious. Their excellent cashew cream added some creamy, fatty goodness (without much in the way of calories) to this crispy, fresh wrap. I wish I could find something like this at home. Their fresh smoothies are beautiful, and they have a variety of options for all tastes. Be prepared to walk with your food, or wait a bit for a seat. It's teeny tiny - but well worth any kind of wait. Be advised that because everything is fresh, they can be fresh out of some items later in the day. So arrive early!

Excellent food. Very friendly with an interest in how the food was, how I located them. Would go back.

Best customer service experience we had on the whole trip. These people took us in like family. They would would make everything just to our specific dining needs. The food is creative and beautiful the owners are the same. We miss them so much now that we are home. WOW! We are from PDX and we were still impressed!

Super friendly lady who owns the place. We picked up a meal to go before our flight back... is it just me or was that pretty pricey? Still pretty good for vegetarian food.

GREAT FOOD for sure! So, I ordered the crunch wrap with collard green not rice wrap. It was pretty decent size, I only ate half and took the rest for lunch. While the lady was making my food, a couple came in and stated talking to her. They mentioned my wrap and how it wasn't on a rice wrap, lol completely ignoring that the customer was a few feet away and could hear the conversation, the lady making the collard wrap started making up reasons why I didn't choose the rice wrap and made it seem like it was something of a hassle to her.. I thought it was funny. I just didn't appreciate that I was being talked about while I was a few feet away. That's why I only gave 3 stars. Also had the acai bowl, lol she corrected my pronunciation with the acai word as well. It was pretty good, I've had better with fresh fruit on top, this one had none. I would come back if I knew she was not working. Other than that pretty good place!

Tiny little place with very good and unusual options for vegetarians. So often we just accept the usual, i.e pasta primavera or hummus wrap. This place had many creative and tasty choices. The folks there were very nice too.

Fantastic! My amazing boyfriend found this little gem on Yelp and it was amazing. If you are looking for fantastic, healthy, sustaining food, this is your place. Joy is a doll and cooks everything with love. We were truly blessed to have found Joy and her creations!

Serving healthy food in Maui is rarer than your sashimi tuna. But I just flew in from California when I ate here, so it's not like I was craving for brown rice or vegan specials. The BLT sandwich I had was fine, but my companion was put out by the fact that her turkey pesto wrap didn't list onions on the menu when that was like the 4th ingredient. She was also annoyed to pay $7 for their kombucha (Her words "Anything more than $5 better have booze in it).. So in short, if you are homesick for California (and don't mind paying 30% more) or have been put on a diet, this is probably a great place, but there's better places to eat in the meanwhile.

So very happy to see such a health conscious restaurant here - especially after some major disappointments at most of our dining out experiences in Kihei. Excellent service and the most friendly staff who were very patient answering questions and accommodating us. My wife is gluten free, dairy free and has many food sensitivities. They have a very good selection of sandwiches, wraps, veggie burgers, and home made soups. Joy's place is a joy to have found!

  • Mark P.

Sandwiches were very good. Very fresh ingredients, slightly larger than average sandwiches (not larger than a decent size sub sandwich) Owner and staff are very nice. Deducting a star for being pricey. Family of 5 each ordering a sandwich, sharing one or two smoothies with typical chips for sides, some baked kelp side, a soup, and mostly waters for drinks, was over $110. Just know that going in so you don't have sticker shock.

I highly recommend this restaurant for both vegans and vegetarians. The food was both simple and complex and really satisfying. I have been a vegetarian since birth and I tried some really unique food items here! I loved the live almond but sandwich which was both raw and vegan too. It came sandwiches between greens and was flavored with ketchup and mustard -- all homemade fresh on site by Elaine. I also enjoyed the indo crunch wrap which was wrapped in a clear lettuce-like wrap and had some of the best peanut sauce tempeh I have tried inside it with sprouts, carrots, and other fresh veggies! Finally, I enjoyed the "cheese" Sandwich I got which was made with cashew cheese, vegan pesto (cilantro and nuts), avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and onions! The bread was also delicious. I went to joys on three different occasions which is quite a lot for me as I am a picky eater! Each time, I was able to sample a different soup and all three were delectable (and vegan!) -- broccoli soup; sweet potato, carrot, and ginger soup; and vegetable noodle soup! This place is simply amazing and Elaine and Arleen are awesome!!!! Also, Arleen is from Cranford, NJ which is pretty damn cool -- Reppin central nj and the east coast!! EAT HEre!!!! You won't regret it!!

Why did it take me so long to find the most delicious and healthy Restaraunt on Maui??? The raw nut burger was supreme! Can't wait to go back and try more things.

    (5)
  • Coralie D.

Not cheap, but very tasty. Had the nut 'burger', which was a seed/nut patty wrapped in a leaf. Made the mistake of trying to take it on my flight. It was messy and soggy by the time I pulled it out to eat it, but still delicious.

It was nice to find this little smoothie place using fresh ingredients. There aren't any of those "Smoothie King" and "Jamba Juice" sugar filled milk shake type of smoothies on the menu so if that is what you are looking for, keep walking. Now the one thing that I loved was the Ginger, Cayenne and Cider Vinegar tonic. I love those tonics at the slightest hint of a cold. Overall, I just loved this place!

  • Cassandra B.

Love their green smoothies! Always great for healthy fresh lunches . The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is the prices are steep. But this is Maui and they are serving delicious, healthy food! When it's in my budget I love to stop in for a smoothie, raw burrito (my favorite) and maybe some delicious raw chocolate mouse. When my dad is visiting we literally go every single day. Only downfall is they are not open for dinner. The staff is very warm and friendly and always remember us!

This place is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! Their food is soo good. Especially their Vegan desserts. Healthy & so delicious. I recommend everyone to try it.

Hands the the healthiest meal I had on Maui made with love!! Wow the best veggie burrito wrapped in a collard green I've ever has in my life with a side of kale chips and a fresh smoothie to wash it down!! Can't wait to visit Maui soon and visit this charming and yummy joint!!! Stellar customer service with pure aloha!!'

If you like super healthy grub presented in a novel and interesting way, Joy's is the place for you. I had the turkey and avocado with sprouts wrapped in collared greens! Man- so good after surfing in the ayem. It's all organic, nitrate free, etc. Cold brewed coffee, you name it. Service is amazingly warm, friendly and fast. Wish I had discovered this little gem earlier in the trip.

Good variety of vegan and vegetarian food. Food was simple, healthy and good. Service was fast. Smoothies were quite good too.

  • Aimee K.

Joy's place is awesome! It's a vegetarians dream! They have great breakfast and lunch. It's a little pricey, but you are getting what you pay for, super fresh ingredients and items that are handcrafted to your specifications. I especially like the Indo Crunch Wrap. So delicious! It can get a little busy, but it's a perfect stop if you want to grab something healthy but also yummy on your way to the beach.

Absolutely incredible. I wish I had eaten here every single day of my trip. I'm back home in Seattle and desperately missing Joy's amazing creations. I will be back!! Major love for Joy's Place.

I have been coming here for many years now. I was told long ago about the cold buster juice which I believe helped immensely. We have also order many shakes that were good but I most recently came across the booch at joys. I tried a very little bit as the bossy lady said to the other lady that she served me to munch. I was said I had bad taste in my mouth for this particular woman. This woman is a very controlling women and needs to work more like a team and not drill sergeant. The small lady That was cooking everything was the friendliest person in the store out of four people. The man is a little overbearing a little to controlling for me. I had an egg sandwich which was just ok. Very plain. I wanted to get my daily dose of my kombucha while on the island and I certainly will not retuned to joy for 2 gallons a day. I will take my kombucha down the road a block to see happy people that want to treat you respectfully.

Watch out when you walk through the door - especially if it's a busy lunch time.! LOL Elaine is the chef/tour de force behind Joy's Place- One of the most creative chefs on the island-- and if you're vegan or vegetarian and looking for yummy organic soups and sandwiches,.this is the place! Of course the regulars know that Elaine is all smoke and mirrors and they actually look forward to the sassy "New England" type response they are sure to get when they ask for extra chopped onions. It's out of the way just enough to be put in the "Best-Kept Maui Secret" eateries category- but you should definitely put Joy's Place on your "must try" list.

  • Olga V.

We liked the food and the lady who runs the place. Everything was very tasty - vegetarian chili, tuna sandwich and acai bowl. Particularly acai bowl was very good. I wish they also offered more coffee options. The atmosphere is very welcoming and homey. Good place for breakfast or a quick lunch/snack.

Probably the highest quality food I've tried on Maui. If you like natural Fresh food, this is your place. Today I had a fresh tuna sandwich (yes, tuna was not frozen previously) and an amazing green mint smoothie

I love Joy's Live Nut burger! Yum! This is the first time I had anything wrapped in a collard green. I am willing to try more creations wrapped in a collard green now. I must of had five of these while in Maui and one for the flight home. Mahalo Elaine for your service with Aloha!

Loved Joy's Place. Glad Yelpers pointed me in their direction, I was not disappointed. The staff was friendly and the food was great. It is a little pricey, but the portions are generous and everything is very fresh. I highly recommend the Live Nut Burger.

Yum! I had the Indo Crunch Collard Wrap and it was deeeeelish! Fresh and cooling on a warm beautiful day. I also brought an oatmeal cookie and brownie back to the hotel with me...and I was quickly wishing I had purchased more than one. This is a great place to go if you're looking for healthy nourishing food with a friendly accommodating staff.

Finding this place definitely felt like a score for off-tourist path (thanks Yelp!). It is not *purely* vegetarian, but they do have a couple vegetarian options. Perhaps a little on the pricy side but that's typical with fresh/raw/organic food. It was filling and tasty while also feeling healthy. Finding it is a little challenging; it is not on the main road, but you can find the plaza and then walk down the side path of the complex and you wonder if you're in the right place as you pass something like a realty office. We got the live burrito and Indo crunch wrap. They have a selection of smoothies. I was tempted to try the vegan chocolate mousse. Suggest coming here, getting your food to go and have a nice meal on the beach!

    (4)
  • Alyssa K.

Raw food!!!!!! I tried the "Mac and Cheese" which was quite nice, and their "cinnamon roll" was decadent. Their smoothies are great too. Wish I could have tried more items, but I guess I'll just have to come back next time I'm on Maui!

Amazing little hole in the wall kind of place! Super service...walk in and warmth and Love greet you! Acai berry with granola was awesome! Going tomorrow to try something new!

I go to Joy's at least once a week. Today I'm having the Carrot & Ginger soup and it's FANTASTIC. I also love the Indo Cruch Wrap, LIVE Burrito Supreme, her Chili and the Avocado Wrap. If you care about what you eat and see the point in quality food -Go to Joy's. You won't be disappointed.

  • Eve V.

Delicious!! So yum. We had the Thai tempeh wrap and the burrito supreme. Both were so nummy that we couldn't help but get a Maui fruit smoothie, pumpkin spelt muffins and a huge vegan brownie to top it off. The place is on the small side, the staff are so friendly and from the time it took us I eat it was quite clear that the place is populated by regulars. A great find, we really loved it!

We spent a week in Wailea, and I was worried about finding good vegan options for the trip. I found Joy's on Yelp before leaving for Maui and was thrilled with the menu choices. I ended up getting at least one meal every day plus snacks. It was all delicious and healthy! Everyone there was helpful and very friendly. I miss it now that I am home! Until my next trip to Hawaii.

I ordered the Indo Crunch Wrap after reading some yelps and was not disappointed! The peanut sauce was delicious and I liked the rice wrap which I had not tried before. Nice to have some vegetarian options in Kihei.

I yelped Joy's Place before arrive on Maui. I am vegan so I wanted to make sure there were some tasty places I could eat. I came here for lunch with my mom and got the Veggie Burger, and she got the Daily Special which was fish tacos. The prices are a little high but IT IS Hawaii and Vegan so I understand, I am used to paying a little more for good quality, organic food. The burger was delicious, but it was served on toast instead of a hamburger bun, which was ok because it was so good. The fish tacos were fresh, and the tortillas looked handmade. I will definately come here again!

I tried the Indonesian wrap on rice paper it was light and very satisfying as well as delish! It had a peanut dressing w/ a thai flare. The burrito was very flavorful, the BF loved it! Personally I preferred the Indonesian wrap because the flavor was more delicate, and refreshing. I was just going to sample the oatmeal cookie, and ended up eating the whole thing. :D She has a great handle on the use of spices and produce. She gives her dishes that special final touch that makes you want to comeback for more.

Ate a quick lunch here after some beach time. I was interested in trying this place because they had a gluten-free option for the sandwiches on their menu, which is a rice wrapper (basically the same thing as a Vietnamese summer roll wrapper stretched around your wrap!). So, I got the rice-wrapper version of a turkey salad with cranberry sandwich, which was quite tasty and fresh, and the SO had a turkey/avocado/cheese wrap which she liked. I also tried their spiced iced tea, which was a bit heavy on the cinnamon for my taste, but others seemed to like it. Service was friendly, and it seemed like they have a ton of regulars who were coming in and out as we were sitting and eating. They don't have a lot of chairs inside, so you may have to buy your food and go, but hey, the beach is only a 100 yards away or so... :)

Want some good mood food on the south side of the island?! Make sure to stop at joy's Place! Lots of options, and all of them looked awesome! We devoured the Indo Crunch Wrap (tons of fresh veggies and marinated tempeh in a big rice wrapper) and enjoyed a hearty vegan chili on brown rice. We also tried the homemade kombucha and chocolate mousse (vegan too!). It is a cute little spot located right across the street from some great grassy beach areas. Even if you aren't staying in this part of the island, it is worth spending a day there just to try joy's.

  • Erin L.

What a great find this place was! We were in Maui for 8 days and ate here at least 3 times...maybe even 4! LOVED it! In all our combined visits we tried the grilled veggie burger, the live burrito supreme, the Indo crunch collard wrap. We also had a Minty Green smoothie every time we went in. Oh! And the raw chocolate truffles....mmmmmmm.....yummy! Even though they are $5 for only two, they are worth the money for a special treat!

We were very excited to eat here as we enjoy Joy's products which we buy at Whole Fodos Market. While we appreciate having vegan food and it did taste very good,, we found the atmosphere and service less than appetizing. They brought our soup to the table and pointed across the room and said "Go get your spoons there." Not very friendly or helpful. When we go to the other vegan restaurant in Maui called Choice Health Bar in Lahaina, we are met with truly happy employees who give excellent service in a clean location with lots of comfortable seating. We will continue to buy Joy's delicious items at our local Whole Foods Market, but we won't be visiting her restaurant any more unfortunately . .. hopefully, she'll make the place tidier and offer more seating, and hire sweeter and friendlier people (vegans are very sensitive people). .. and make it a Joy to eat there!

This is definitely a hole-in-the wall place in boring looking strip-mall in Kihei that you probably wouldn't find if you weren't looking for it (I read about it in a guidebook). If I'm being honest, I was a little bit disappointed based on the reviews I'd read. They are definitely vegetarian/vegan friendly (with plenty of options for carnivores too), but the prices were a bit expensive and the cashier was, well, a bit spacey. She didn't know if they could substitute add tempeh to a breakfast sandwich, even though there's made to order (and tempeh is clearly listed as an ingredient in other items on the menu), and she rang up my friend's smoothie with my order, even though we were clearly paying separately (she didn't even discover the mistake until my friend pointed it out when he was paying). I will say that the woman who appeared to be the owner seemed more competent (she was back in the kitchen area answering all the cashier's questions). Maybe the cashier was new, so I'd give this place the benefit of the doubt and try it again if I ever go back to Maui, both mostly because I always try to support businesses that look out for the veggie/vegans of the world.

I found Joy's Place through Yelp and prepared myself for good food, high prices. Delicious vegan snacks, smoothies, soups and wraps, but expect to pay a little bit more -- which is typical of veg food. The Indo Crunch Wrap was DELICIOUS! Grilled tempeh, fresh veggies, a fantastic Indonesian peanut sauce, sprouts in either collard greens or a rice wrapper. So good. The Green Power Smoothie was refreshing and tasty -- collard greens, cucumber, avocado and banana. I was so happy to find such a great place while on vacation -- and happy that I didn't have to eat unhealthy food while so far away from home. Small place, located in a multi-story office building across the street from the ocean and a surf school. A must-try for vegans an non-vegans alike!

It would be 5 stars except for the price. I went today to get lunch based on the good reviews on Yelp. I ordered a small bowl of the soup of the day - a West African veggie soup made with cumin, a live nut burger (no sides) and a Maui fruit smoothie with fresh ginger. I got my lunch to go and walked out thinking, "they weren't kidding about the price - won't be going back here." But read on. The soup was delicious - chock-full of potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, garbanzos in a lovely broth. The smoothie was wonderful! Just the right amount of tangy pineapple and passion fruit flavor with the wonderful raw ginger kick. All very fresh tasting. Now the live nut burger (raw). I really didn't know what to expect. The menu says a collard green "bun" so I was picturing a green piece of bread. But they mean it is wrapped in raw collard green leaves! I've had lots of cooked collards, but never raw. This "burger" was AMAZING! I was intimidated when I saw it because I didn't know how to eat it, but after carefully using the collard leaves to hold it, it stayed together very well. The raw nut patty was covered with carrots, avocado, sprouts, and tahini sauce. Everything was fresh and the flavors all came together wonderfully. Just delicious. I savored every bite. Now, getting back to the price. Yes, it is pricey, although I would have to agree with others who say running a place in Maui serving fresh, wholesome, organic foods cannot be cheap. I certainly could not afford to eat here every day, but the bottom line is I will be back.

From start to finish... Not impressed. We walked in to Elaine shoving salmon chowder down our throats early in the morning. We were a group of four, and we did not appreciate her sarcasm when those wanting breakfast didn't want to try the chowder. After we decided what to order, Elaine promptly refused to grill a day old muffin. We decided to take the food to go to get out of that toxic environment and the disappointment continued. The triple berry bowl was full of ice chunks, and impossible to eat. The 'signature' turkey sandwich was full of mayo when we asked for mustard instead. $60 and 45 minutes later we'll be heading back to our room for snacks.

This place is so yummy!Their breakfast açaí bowl is a must have! If you're vegan like myself you can substitute soy milk for yogurt. I really recommend this place for a great snack or lunch. YUM YUM YUM

  • Kristina M.

love eating the occasional lunch here! its a little expensive, but organic/non-gmo food usually is on maui! I really like the indo-crunch wrap and turkey-avo roll. I'm a vegetarian so i order it with no turkey plus a vegan pesto and its awesome! They can substitute anything to make it vegan/raw. Oh yea, and the chili! Oh the deluxe chili is so perfect for the rare rainy day in Kihei, it is amazing, great flavor with just a little bit of heat. I only wish that they were open past three o'clock everyday. Overall a great vegetarian option in Kihei!

ate lunch at Joy's today! had a great grilled Ahi tuna salad, and the wife had a tasty turkey sandwich with sprouts. This place is a much needed break from the onslaught of tourist chow. e.g.: Tommy Bahama's. seriously, how much more money does that guy need? what do you get at his restaurant, a burger that tastes like a $60 shirt? As if his name is really Mr. Bahama! anywho, they made my daughter (a picky eater) a grilled cheese on sprout bread, which she summarily gobbled up. Joy's place is small but there's a nice vibe in here, feels very Santa Cruz. nice to see people stop by and say 'Hi, Joy!' I recommend you stop in and get some fresh food.

This is an exceptional lunch spot (and probably breakfast spot too :). My lunch (vegan/raw burrito - don't knock it til you try it) and hubby's (albacore sandwich) and dessert (cookies and pudding are not to be missed) were all special. If you are headed here...then I am jealous. Super friendly folks, no snob factor even though the restaurant was full of locals when we were there. I'll be back the next time I'm in Maui for sure! Mahalo!!

  • Ezra S.

So minus 1 star because they're really just too. expensive. and yes, even for Maui. I grabbed a tiny little pre-made, pre-wrapped wrap (that was absolutely DELICIOUS, btw) out of their front deli-kinda thing and it was almost $10. TEN DOLLARS. For ONE TINY WRAP. To go! Again, it was seriously DELISH, and they really did seem to have the best quick food I could find on Maui in such a to-go kinda place - tons of veggie/raw options, etc. - but really, I almost had a hard time enjoying my wrap knowing I could've bought the ingredients, taken it back to our condo and made oh, about ten of them for the same price. If not more. The atmosphere is not very comfy, just a couple small tables in a tiny place, but it seemed most people got things to go, which totally worked for us anyways. So yeah, keep doing what you're doing, Joy! Just drop the prices down a wee bit... k? It would keep me coming back and spreading the word for a long, long time.

My Girlfriend and I can be tough to feed, She's Vegan. Joy's Place is just the ticket. I love the Live Burrito Supreme. The food is really great. Much of it is locally grown, Organic, GMO free and "live". Just a wee bit pricey but all the Non-GMO, organic food here on Maui is expensive.

  • Irene B.

My husband and I are NOT vegetarians but we were starved and this place was close and came highly recommended. Let me just say they had awesome sandwiches, smoothies, and muffins! Everything tasted so fresh and the staff was very friendly. I will most definitely come back to next time we visit Kihei!

Stopped by for lunch and had a rice wrap and mint smoothie, both were excellent. It's a great escape from the throngs of tourist restaurants, tasty and healthy. It is a little pricey, but still a good deal on maui.

Great raw selections & green smoothies! Super friendly service---my favorite lunch spot in Kihei.

  • Kelly B.

Wow. This was the best food I ate on the island. I had the Live Burrito Extreme and it was substantial and delicious. A nice, relaxing place to eat, too. Apparently, they have cooking classes too - unfortunately, there were none during the times I was on the island. Oh well, I guess I'll have to plan a trip back soon ;)

  • Remy O.

I would pack Joy in my suitcase and take her back with me if I could. The food is unquestionable. The prices are high I'd guess because it's expensive to keep an organic menu with outrageous rent, and low and volatile seasonal patronage. The pricing, although justifiable, seems backward to me. The soups are all out of this world delicious, but are much less expensive than the salads (which are really small and quite simple). I would instead think the items that require more prep (soup) and have more ingredients would be more expensive. Either way, I shell out to support the cause and the existence of health food in South Maui. Joy's will be serving breakfast starting in a couple weeks. Rock on, Joy.

Outstandingly tasty fare. Very informal and small. You come here because you want the freshest organic eats, and perhaps you're a vegetarian or vegan. This place needs your business and support. Patronize them.

Very fresh and healthy food. I walked out a happy vegetarian. The collard green wrap was an explosion of flavors. The vegetarian chilli was great too. Slightly expensive but they gave us free samples and a great Maui smoothie. Would definitely go back when I want to feel rejuvenated

Joy freaked the hell out when I asked for granola with no yogurt and said it wouldn't taste good, almost refusing to serve it to me. I almost walked out, but she complied. had a smoothie with it and it was delicious. The food is expensive, but delicious.

I loved this place! After multiple restaurants that disappointed finding this gem was wonderful! We were staying in Kaanapali and drove down to Kihei twice just so that I could eat some good food! What I ordered- green power and mixed berry smoothies, the raw burrito and raw burger. All were excellent and tasty. I also bought the raw "cinnamon rolls" and found them to be much too sweet for my taste. I highly recommend this restaurant! Yes, it is pricey but you get what you pay for. It is totally worth it. Trust me!

  • Rinky N.

We only found out about this place the day we were leaving. Food is excellent, home made, fresh and tasty...... we had several different sandwiches, fresh spring rolls, and desserts....expensive though (as are most eateries in Maui)....well over $50 for the 3 of us....but we are pigs..... We would definitely go there again....we did save the menu and I longingly look at it from time to time.

I LOVED this place. It was the best discovery of all our Maui stays and we have been there a lot :)! Joy's Place is the freshest, most delicious, most original and authentic foods and the best, sweetest, kindest staff. The green smoothies are heavenly; I came home and started making them. Delicious! The salads, the options for vegan, vegetarian and meat lovers, the freshness, the home grown stuff is all great. I wish they had more seating. It is hard to get much real estate in Hawaii, I understand, but the seating is very limited so plan ahead. Highly recommended it. Her kale chips were really awesome too!

The food at this place is off the chart good. While I was in Maui this was by far my favorite place to eat. All the food I tried was healthy and good but my favorite was the turkey sandwich on herb bread. The food here is definitely worthy of a five star rating but I have to drop my rating to four stars because 1) like others have stated it is just way too expensive for what you get and 2) the restaurant is very small and can get uncomfortable when there is line of people out the door. I would recommend getting your food to go and head to the beach. Again, the food was the best I had on Maui.

Would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. Great place to grab a quick healthy lunch after visiting Wailea beach. I had the veggie burger and husband had a turkey salad sandwich. Both were delicious (especially the veggie burger - who knew a veggie burger could be so good?!) but mine came with a only a smidgeon of pasta salad as a side and my husband's came with no side at all. The choices on the menu are limited since they are mostly vegetarian. We also had a smoothie which was great. A little pricey but worth it for the most part. Service was great and everyone super friendly. The place could use some jazzing up in terms of decor.

I actually never got to eat here since they closed for a couple weeks while we were there, but I got a raw shake from whole foods that joy's made and it was great. Comparable to the famous cafe gratitude in Cali

Mainly vegan and vegetarian options. Some meat options as well. Spiced iced tea was good. Several items are pre-made, but they are willing to accommodate requests on non-premade items. Veggie burger is morning star, not house made. Space is small and a little tired. This is nothing fancy, but a healthy option worth a try. I had the deluxe chili, which was pretty tasty.

Joys is my absolute favorite place to eat on the southside of the island. I give it 5 stars b/c it is healthy and filling! the ladies are so friendly. the soups are ono! My fav is the ahi steak sandwich yummy! the carrot ginger soup is to die for! it is slightly pricey but u are what you eat! only open until 2pm so hurry and grab some lunch!

One of my favorite lunch places! Joy's Place is a healthy and fresh choice compared to your average cafe. With a predominantly organic & vegetarian menu, I usually stick to the Chili. Even though it's meat free it's da best I've had so far on da island. Their wraps are good, albiet a little pricey. But don't let that scare you away. You're paying for fresh, quality ingredients, unlike subway or quiznos down the street.

Hands down the best sandwich I had on Maui! Simple, but delicious, it was some kind of veggie sandwich with cheese and maui onions on some of the best whole grain bread I've had and it was epic. We also tried the raw nut burger and it was excellent as well. For dessert we had some kind of raw frozen nut thing that tasted just like ice cream! I would give em 4 1/2 stars. The menu is kinda small and consists of raw and lightly cooked items. I wish they had more sandwich options on the menu, maybe with seitan or tempeh. I was also surprised they didnt have a basic juice bar for fresh juices and I wouldn't have minded a couple more burger options like a hot veg/soy burger, etc. Everything we ordered was great and the people here were really friendly and helpful. Can't wait to get back to Joy's!

Excellent lunch. They use mostly organic ingredients, and tend towards vegetarian dishes. However they have an excellent turkey pesto wrap as well. Their salads are well done, and the soups change daily. Prices are way too high, but the quality of food seems pretty good.

I discovered Joy's place in 2010 after living on Maui for over 7 years. It is a little out of the way but very close to S. Kihei Rd & across from The popular surf spot: The Cove. I have visited Joys over 10xs now & even found items my kids enjoy! The food is different but so enjoyable for me and my family to enjoy something healthy & different, since I am only amateur in the kitchen. I do believe it is pricey but not too outrageous for Maui & for the wholesome natural foods served. We especially enjoy the many gourmet soups & sandwiches. We have always had the best service & friendly smiles from the young guy who works the afternoons! He is very knowledgeable & turned me on to the "Live Foods" & their quality & health benefits. We usually enjoy some of their wonderful snacks to take home. I especially love the "Mayan Spice truffles" w/ Maca!!! .... A little too rich & exotic for the kids!!! These truffles are magical & always make me feel great! I really wish I had one now!!! ;-) .... I maybe addicted to the "mystery" ingredients!!! ;-D LOL!!

The food is sooo yummy, healthy, and smart. It may seem a little pricy but I would rather pay at Joy's and enjoy the food rather than pay to sit in some cold doctors office. Eat well, live well.

We ate breakfast here so perhaps lunch is better. I thought the food was pretty good. My chai could've had more flavor. The service was exceptional. I would definitely go back especially having seen lunch dishes other people ordered.

Let me preface this review by saying that I usually do not frequent health food restaurants and am not into "raw" food. I happened to buy one of their Thai raw food rolls at Whole Foods as I am on a diet and it seemed like a sensible choice. I was amazed at how fresh and tasty it was. I visited their deli today and had am excellent lunch with my daughter. I had a kelp roll with fresh shredded vegetables, tempeh and an excellent indonesian sauce. Their tomato basil turkey soup was also phenomenal. Joys Place uses highest quality ingredients and surprises you with superb taste. To me health food usually means bland. This place has proved me wrong. I will be a regular and look forward to many happy lunches. Totally worth the cost.

OMG! I just ate a Live Nut Burger, and it was wonderful! No bun, just a crunchy leaf (collard?) to hold it together. So fresh, delicious, and satisfying! Even meat-eaters, (like me), will love this. Run, don't walk!

Service was great from everyone except the lady at the front (hope that wasn't Joy)--that woman was either having a bad day or needs to learn a thing or two about customer service. Anyhow, service aside, the food and drink was delightful. Don't expect any fancy presentation here (or for the packaging to be as earth-friendly as the food), but they've got great options for people with allergies/particular food preferences. Oh, I got a pb&j (nom nom) and fruit smoothie. Both were delicious.

Stopped by here for a quick snack. Got their strawberry ginger kombucha on tap. Quite fizzy. Ginger taste is mild. But can taste the strawberries. $6.50. The cost of kombucha in Hawaii is quite high in general but this one is quite expensive. Their menu consisted with a lot of health yummy sounding sandwiches. Cost is all hovering above $10. You get a choice of bread. We got the side kale salad only and that is in the fridge so it was only ok. Not very fresh tasting. Overall seems like a cute family run cafe.

My husband and I are vegan and we stopped in for a quick and casual lunch. I had the live burrito and the Hawaiian fruit smoothie. Both were exactly what I was craving. Healthy, filling, delicious. My husband had the açai bowl which was also delicious. The service was friendly and fast. It's a small space but there was enough seating and it was very clean. Would go in a small group. Vegan and meat options alike. So happy to find this place on the island!

Wa had Turkey Avocado wraps in Collard Green and it was so refreshing and tasty even though we had them about 8 hours later. We told them we were taking the wraps to the plane and they made sure everything was wrapped securely. I wish we had discovered this place earlier in our trip.

Very very good! Food tastes awesome and is super healthy. Service is great, very friendly people in here. The smoothies are great and the live burrito supreme is my absolute favorite. My only gripe about this place is that it's kind of expensive. $7.50 for a smoothie, $11.50 for the burrito. If the prices were lower I would literally eat here everyday happily, it's that good and so healthy. I still give 5 stars because I don't blame them for this. Rent is expensive on Maui and unfortunately we live in a backward society where junk food that will kill you is dirt cheap but healthy food that nourishes you will break the bank. Anyway, highly recommended and I will be coming back often despite the cost.

We ate at Joy's Place several times because their small cafe had plenty of vegetarian and vegan items. Enough that I was surprised to learn that their turkey was actually turkey rather than a vegan imitation. Their breakfast burrito was a red tomato tortilla filled with vegie chilli, cheese and onions. I liked the pattie they used for their vegie burger and that it came with a side of mac and cheese. We also had their smoothies. I enjoyed their Berry Green Protein Power (hemp seeds, kale, berries, banana and apple) and the Maui Fruit (pineapple, banana, passionfruit, orange and apple) even more.

I can't find enough great things to say about Joy's Place. The food is so fresh, healthy, and tasty. Elaine prepares the food with so much love! The wraps are delicious (especially great if you're trying to stay away from refined carbs). The Kombucha on tap is the absolute best! The owners are incredibly nice and give the place a very mom and pop feel. Definitely a must try if you're looking for something healthy and delicious on the Island!

This is such a cute mom and pop and a great option for a healthier lunch. Considering my plan is to have Ululani's every day of my vacation in Maui, I try to eat somewhat healthier for lunch, haha. The turkey avo pesto wrap ideas fresh, tasty and a healthy portion. I shared half with my husband and glad I did. I also tried the acai bowl and it wasn't as good as others I've tried, notably because there is no granola on the bottom and no fruit toppings on the top. Like most places in Maui, very very friendly service.

If I could give it less I would. I didn't even get a chance to try the food. Saw this place after getting a massage next door and I walked in and the lady was so rude. I said hi how are you today? She looked me up and down and said um yeah, can I help you? (With a tude) what happened to Aloha. I said no thanks and left. I really wanted to try this place since I'm vegetarian and they had vegetarian & vegan options. She ruined it for me. When I get an evil eye for walking into a place you don't get my business. Learn some customer service skills. Joy's not so joyful!

Joy's Place is my healthy nutritious food WONDERLAND. WONDERLAND, I TELL YOU. I was on Maui for 3 days...I ate here 2 of those days. If they were open on a Sunday, it would've been 3. I was very sad about that BUT that's how good it is. Everything I ate was delicious! It's so hard to find a place that caters to raw nutritious health food and does it so good that you don't miss that other food. I see why they named it Joy's Place. Joy can be found here. It's easy to miss so pay attention. Our GPS told us it was around the corner but good thing my friend spotted the sign as we drove by. It's a little shop on the bottom floor of an apartment? building right across from a beach park.

This is a very casual place but the food is divine! I had the Thai wrap and didn't want it to end. Seriously, I wish I had several stomachs... I wish I could have tried several other items there (we were visiting and found this towards the end of our trip). We'll definitely go back next time we're on the island.

We were waiting on our surf lessons and hadn't had breakfast yet, so we walked across the street to the plaza to see if we could find something to eat. After five days of eating heavily and laying around like a sloth, I was hoping for something on the fresher side, a little lighter, a little more healthy. Joy's Place was open early and their list of smoothies sounded like exactly what I was looking for. We both had the Green Power smoothie, and in the time it took them to blend it, we were on our way back to hang at the surf shop. Although the price seemed steep at $8 for 16 ounces, it was more than worth it. I felt hydrated and well-nourished for my two hour surf lesson, without that heavy feeling I would've had if we'd had something solid to eat. I went back the following day for the same order, it was that good. And when we asked for recommendations from the surf shop photographer, he recommended Joy's as well. It seems like Maui should have a ton of healthy fresh options, but this was easily the best we found.

This is the 3rd time I been here and the sandwiches are amazing! The green smoothie is my favorite! I think her name was Elaine, she's so fun and sweet! She remembered me from the last time and remembered I liked this sandwich! I feel welcomed and its like home when I come! I need to try the acai bowl next time!

Loved it here! Great raw sandwiches, amazing smoothing, juices and acai bolw. The couple in charge here are so sweet and welcoming! We got great advices to do our grocery shopping while on vacation here. They were nice as it's get.

Amazing! So fresh and oh so good. I wish we discovered it sooner while in Maui but even more so I wish we had one here in Denver. My wrap was wrapped in tender, green chard and a thin rice paper- brilliant! No more boring, typical tortillas for wraps- finally a healthy alternative for gluten-free peeps. A little raw, vegan truffle to top it off- sooooooooo good!

It was such a relief to find this place after a few days of eating deep fried junk. I was almost at my wits end, feeling sluggish and lethargic, when I said to my partner 'I need something Green!!!' Thanks Yelp for helping me find Joy's Place. I had one of the green smoothies and the acai bowl and my partner had the tropic smoothie and brekkie burrito with bacon. We both really enjoyed our choices and felt like ourselves again! We even went back the next day for smoothies again. My only constructive feedback would be for more food options - what they have is great! but not many cooked options - and to use fresh apple juice in the smoothies instead of bottled.

  • Vishy G.

This place is a gem. The chef is ridiculously friendly! And the food is even better! Chef was willing to mix and match to give us the best experience possible. Should've eaten here every day during my stay in Maui. Too bad I discovered it too late.

  • Aja N.

Great food selection!! I had the breakfast burrito and it was average. Some food items are nitrate free, but not the bacon. The burrito had eggs, cheese, veggie chili, bacon and onions. I consider myself to be a breakfast burrito connisour. The cold buster juice was great and so was the smoothie I ordered. Everything on the menu looked divine and there's plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.

Just went to joys place looking for some kombucha and the woman taking my order was real short. I asked her If I could sample the kombucha (there were sample cups out) and it seemed as if I burdened her by asking. She was real short and rude. The kombucha was delicious but way over priced even for maui. I wanted to order food but she quickly rushed my order and was already pushing me out to help the next person. If you need a kombucha fix in Maui this is the only place to go otherwise I advise to stay away.

Not only did they gave something for my vegan, gluten-free boyfriend to enjoy immensely - but the breakfast burrito was y u m m y ! Can't wait to come back and try the soup, which they had sold out of - so I assume it was reallllly good.

The people working here were very friendly. Plenty of vegetarian options which seems to be rare find on Maui. The vegetarian chili served over rice was a perfectly filling lunch! I would definitely return to this spot if I wasn't moving to California soon.

This little eatery is awesome. Don't expect fancy seating or ocean views, just great, fresh food. I had the Indo Crunch Wrap (vegan) with marinated tempeh, lots of veggies, Indonesian peanut sauce in a rice wrap. $11.95. While it may be a bit expensive, the portions are large! My wrap was 2 meals worth of food. This is one tasty wrap that I will have again and again. The customer service is excellent! The woman making our meals had us all laughing. She was cracking one liners left and right and was just a hoot. Very friendly and sincere. You can tell she loves her job. I can't wait to go back and try the other goodies on the menu!

A nice spot for omnivores and vegans to co-exist. Love the info tempeh crunch wrap. Peanut sauce and fresh veggies. The smoothies are great. Great place to grab a bite after lessons at Maui Wave Riders (SUP Lessons were awesome)! Want to go back for the vegan brownies!

Although I've stayed right next to Joy's without even knowing it, I'm glad I stumbled upon it. Super friendly staff, excellent selection of healthy sandwiches, smoothies, and other drinks. Got the turkey sandwich special with pesto which was great! Also had gluten free and vegan options.

Something for everyone. Fresh smoothies, raw food options, vegetarian items, regular tuna/turkey/etc sandwiches. Reasonably price, healthy and fresh. Great for breakfast or lunch. Egg sandwich, yum. Also, we grabbed some items to go and they lasted for several hours so we could eat lunch/dinner on our way back to mainland. Special shout out to Jasmine who is a lovely human.

My favorite place to go for a delicious, healthy & organic meal! And it's really the only place I want to go. The service is friendly and happy, the space is cozy and cheerful and the food is amazing! The Goddess who prepares the food is a magician in the kitchen. Her vegan, raw, pumpkin cheesecake with an almond & date crust is out of this world! Creamy and light! The Live Burrito Supreme, wrapped in a tender collard green, is the best and is large enough for two meals. The soups are fresh and delicious and the smoothies are wonderful. Don't miss out on this amazing little cafe.

Our hotel in Kihei was within walking distance of Joy's place, and we liked this place so much that it was one of just three or four places we ate at while on Maui. We ate there more days than not! The food is fresh and healthy, not to mention tasty. As a veg*n who loves food, sometimes I feel that I just want a hot plate of food instead of a salad or other raw options. But the raw all of options were quite delicious that you aren't left desiring a bit more. Whether you're trying to eat a bit more healthy or trying to balance out your vacation eating, Joy's Place is worth the visit.

Homemade, fresh, delicious and nutritious! We spent the day at a nearby beach, so we enjoyed acai bowls at Joy's Place for breakfast and shared a Maui Fruit smoothie and sandwiches for lunch, veggie burger and the breakfast burrito. Highly recommend to anyone who likes delicious, flavorful food and healthy, organic options!

This is a great place to get a healthy nutritious delicious meal in Kihei, the food is fresh, the recipes are excellent and they are really quick. But best of all the staff is really nice, what a great crew of ladies. It's sort of hidden and you might not notice Joys place but you will be glad you found it :)

Our family of 4 ages 9, 14, my wife (shhh)and my 55 years thoroughly enjoyed the food. My Albacore sandwich was not only great tasting but a good size. In fact all our sandwiches were ample portions. Excellent quality, great service, informal setting. Nice.

This may be one of my favorite places in Maui. If you like super good healthy food with great people this is the place for you. It is island price so it was about $50 for my family of five to eat but I felt good about it because they were eating really good food and supporting a local small business. The wrap supreme is so good so was the chocolate pudding. Everything I have every ordered here has been great. On our way to the airport we stopped to get food for the plane. We were worried that we would not be able to bring the food on the plane because of the produce police at the airport but no problems.

I went to Joy's Place for lunch and it was fantastic. My boyfriend had " Joy's Place," which consisted of nitrate free turkey, local avocado, provolone cheese, mayo, stone ground mustard, lettuce, tomato, grated carrot, onion and clover sprouts in a gluten-free rice wrap. ($11.50) He really enjoyed it. I had "Sliced Turkey and Cranberry," which consists of nitrate free turkey, mayo, cranberry sauce, lettuce, tomato, grated carrot, onion and clover sprouts in a gluten-free rice wrap. ($10.95) I loved mine. Then we split the "Indo Crunch Collard Wrap (vegan)" which had marinated tempeh, crunchy veggies and Indonesian peanut sauce in a gluten-free rice wrap. ($11.50) It was crunchy and interesting with a nice kick of saltiness. Just in case you don't know what a gluten-free rice wrap is... .think Vietnamese spring rolls. It's the same kind of rice wrap they use for those. It's translucent and don't have a taste, which I think it great because it really allows the rest of the ingredients to shine. We also ordered two smoothies which we split. They are about $7.50/ each. We had the "Berry Green Protein Power" which was rice protein powder, kale, 3 berry mix, banana and apple juice. The second smoothie was the "Creamy Berry" which had banana, mixed berries, strawberries, soy milk and apple juice. Both were delicious but I like the "Creamy Berry" much better than the "Berry Green Protein Power." Overall the meal was great. The staff is nice and I would recommend this to my friends.

Great sandwiches and smoothies. A little on th pricey side, but the food is flavorful and fresh, and not to mention healthy. Their fruit smoothie is the best I've ever had, and their green smoothie is much more tasty than other vegetable smoothies I've had, which are usually bitter. Will be returning tomorrow!
