Breakfast was good. I needed "boring" this morning and surprisingly enough the steel-cut oats was good Walt and Jon had eggs, potatoes and a quesadilla dish that was super good for them. The black tea was loose tea leaves in a French press and that made it extra fantastic in flavor...I love tea and they definitely do tea right. I only have three stars because my dinner wasn't good the other night so points off for that. Otherwise, the service was good, our waitress was very polite and accommodating.

came here with my family on a trip a few years back and remember really enjoying it. Visited again on this trip and enjoyed the food immensely. Amazing tostada salad - so fresh and huge - and also shared the seared ahi. Really delicious, friendly staff and awesome atmosphere. Will visit again before we leave!

Great food, great service, sat upstairs with a view, banana Mac nut pancakes with coconut syrup were amazing

I always get the chicken salad and it is so yummy. HUGE portions for what you pay. Great for hungry families and lots of variety.

It was a Monday and we were starving. We wanted to try this Steak Burger truck but 4pm was quite too late for that. So we decided on Olympic Cafe seeing as how it was only down the road from the house and there was traffic (for Kauai standards and we didn't want anything to do with it). Nice open airy restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Hee Fat marketplace, it gives great views of Kapa'a and the ocean. We sat overlooking the street and was able to also watch Monday night football :). Starting off the night we ordered some beers and pupus (hot wings). They do have a happy hour, $1 off beers I believe and $5 pupus. What's amazing is that they had Kona Brewing Co. Wailua Wheat on TAP! I was fricken amazed and happy. It taste sooo good :) The hot wings were bomb and we inhaled them. Not too spicy served with a side of ranch. Then we ordered din-din which was for me the Turkey Deluxe club and for the beau a bacon, avocado burger. What I really like about this place is the fact that they served fresh fruit with my club like my papaya. Yum!! I love options. And my bf's burger came with waffle fries (omg!!!). Spicy like curly fries but bigger! Overall I really enjoyed the food. They have a big menu with lots of choices (may not be good for that friend who has a hard time with choices... just saying). Our server was really cool. Service was quick and it's a great place to enjoy friends when you want a change of atmosphere from say your house.

Great chill local place. Try the fish tacos

Bartender was rude. Actually rolled her eyes when I ordered. I have never been treated like this SERVER treated me. Not the only game in town , give your business to someone else.

Olympic Cafe was not on our Kauai places to eat itinerary but we found ourselves stumbling inside (since so many places are closed on Sunday on this island .. *cough* Pono Market *cough* We got seated by the open window with great views of the town and also the ocean. I ordered the Ahi Sandwich with waffle fries. My cut of fish was huge. They definitely give you large portions here. Fish is pretty fresh and tasted really good. I was definitely satisfied.

This is a big joint in Kapaa. I liked the beachy feel from the second story hangout. The menu was quite large and place was packed. I was still a tad jet-lagged and decided to go with something easy. I got the Shrimp and chips. Granted, they were pretty good, but seriously greasy fried (I should know that right?) My step-mother ordered a salad that was enormous but she said it was very good. A few people ordered fish which is what I should have got, but oh well. Over all, this is not a bad lunch or dinner spot and has lots of parking in the back. Our waitress was friendly and our meals came out in short order. The restaurant is in the "historic Hee Fat" building. I couldn't help to start say "Hee fat, no she fat," but hey, I was loopy by that point.

We only made it here once while on the island.... and that disappointed me a bit... I liked Olympic... nice atmosphere... good drinks, a nice happy hours. The couple appetizers we had were very good (coconut shrimp). Mai Tai's were excellent...

  • Lyn S.

We ordered the shrimp cocktail as an app, which was good though the cocktail sauce was bland. Ordered the grilled chocolate Sandwich out of curiosity and basically was like French toast with melted chocolate so it was delicious! For lunch I ordered the spicy Thai wrap, delicious. And my boyfriend ordered the BBQ chicken quesadilla and it was also good. The portions are huge so come if your starving! Service was good, can't complain! All in all was a good experience and satisfied our need for a good drink and lunch when nothing else was open!:) Update 1/10/12 Went there for breakfast. Wasn't quite as good. Got the Amiga's scramble it was bland. No flavor! :( Boyfriend got the breakfast quesidilla which was better. We got bloody mary's which had way too much horse radish in them. I'd go there for lunch! Breakfast was nothin special.

My wife & I ate here for breakfast on a weekday. We both enjoyed the banana macadamia nut pancakes because they were very fluffy and tasted great with the coconut syrup. We also had some scrambled eggs with vegetables and some fried potatoes which we thought could use some more flavor. The price of the food was a little high, but I guess we were paying for the view of old Kapaa. The service was also average for Kapaa. I would recommend the place to my friends to at least try it once and they could judge it for themselves.

    (3)
  • D L.

Tourist trap: has "every" kind of food on the menu, and none of it is good. Bland & overpriced.

  • Mike S.

Love this place. Huge menu and portions. When in Kapaa this is our goto place to eat. Happening bar as well.

    (4)
  • Alicia L.

Very rude!!! Was told I had to get rid of my latte in order to eat there, the only problem being they don't serve lattes there! I brought a family of 5 and was spending money on all of us... I could see if they served lattes as well. The portions are very large and the food is just okay. I should have left over the latte thing. No kids menu. No solutions or accommodations offered.

    (2)
  • Monica P.

-chips and salsa were stale -the chicken in my tostada was undercooked and all our waitress did about it was give an unconcerned "sorry." no substitution, no meal comp...nothing. -staff seemed cranky and overworked -the bill was the cheapest I've had all

    (2)
  • Alexa C.

Delicious food and amazing service!!! Not to mention a great view from above the city!

    (5)
  • Kyle M.

Had lunch there a few weeks ago, and I was pleasantly surprised. The waffle fries are ridiculously good and the prices aren't all that bad. Must ... go ... back ... for ... more ... fries ...

The menu looked great but the execution was poor. The service was fine but I was truly disappointed with the food. My wife had the spinach scramble with artichoke hearts and sun dried tomatoes. The scramble was brown and over cooked. The artichoke hearts were not cut up at all. The sun dried tomatoes were in huge pieces, probably about a half of a tomato size. Yuk! I had the kalua pork breakfast burrito with a tropical salsa. The salsa was big chunks of papaya and mango with a little jalapeno thrown in. I was expecting more of a fine chop not huge chunks. I wonder if it was from leftover fruit pieces they didn't bother to cut up.The burrito wasn't really a burrito but a tortilla wrapped around the egg mixture. The egg filling was okay and you could really taste the pork. I didn't care for the sweet and egg/pork combination. I would not recommend Olympic to anyone. It was the worst breakfast all week out of 3 different places I tried. I would recommend Tip Top or Ono Family restaurant before Olympic. I must say the view is pretty nice and probably would be a great place for happy hour!

By far the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Came here on 5/8/2012. Food was not good at all. Everything we ordered was cold, flavorless, and some of it was not cooked all the way thru. My marinated chicken taco's were flavorless and dry, maybe they were marinated in water. The tortillas were cold and soggy. Two people ordered the carne asada buritos and the meat inside was probably cooked for one second on a grill. It was all red and bloody. The carnitas plate was also tasteless. The service was not good at all either. Everytime a waiter came to our table it was a different person. If I could I would give this place a negative five. Yes, it was that BAD!

    (1)
  • Phil K.

Had the ahi burrito and thai wrap. Olympic sized portions. Great overall. Enough food for lunch the next day.

    (4)
  • Jovar T.

A fun place to people watch! We go upstairs to the lanai for the best street view in town - Little birds visited along the window ledge as we enjoyed our libations. We had MaiTai and jumbo shrimp cocktails one afternoon. Dynomite cocktail sauce. Went for dinner adifferent nite; I ordered teriaki chicken with steamed vegies. YUM. The portions are quite large. Relaxing & open. Staff & diners alike are smiling and friendly (they were to us anyhow). Check it out on your next drive thru.

    (4)
  • Kelly J.

Like other reviewers before us, we agree- DO NOT ORDER FISH HERE. They have NO idea how to cook ahi, except to amazingly overcook it into oblivion. The kahlua pork, on the other hand, was good. Service was average, semi-rushed. View from the edge seats was nice, but I really wouldn't go back here. Just not a great experience, especially when the manager tries to guilt you for sending back obviously crappy fish.

    (2)
  • D W.

We've been here 3 times this week, for breakfast and dinner. It is awesome! We've recommended it to family, and they loved it too! The bloody Mary's are fantastic, prices are great, the food is fantastic, huge portions, and reasonably priced, AND the service is great...which is saying a lot, seeing that it doesn't seem to be the case at many places on the island. We'll be sure to return again before we leave for home.

    (5)
  • Jacque Y.

Mom's cheeseburger came out with no condiments, the tortilla on dad's burrito was stale and my seafood sampler could have come from any frozen box. Do yourself a favor and go find a small, local place that doesn't cater to tourists.

We ate here twice during our stay in Kauai. Food was very good both times. Kalua pork and Angel Hair Pasta was delicious. Love the open air seating.

    (4)
  • Dana H.

Big menu, big portions, great value. Had a Cobb salad with pulled pork instead of Chicken. Give it a try.

    (5)
  • Kimber C.

sit at the bar and enjoy the games (or infomercials!) while sipping a cold beer or margarita on the rocks! Always had good service and good drinks when sitting at the bar. Rarely order food, but they definitely offer an extensive menu. I'll be back!

  • Erica S.

Cool scenery, bad food and even worse Management. I ordered the ahi wrap, the fish was gross and had a weird consistency. All I could taste was the wasabi sauce. When I told our server i didn't like it she asked me why then sent over the manager. The manager was beyond rude! She wouldn't accept the fact that I didn't like it and gave me a hard time, then she proceeded to tell me that it was exactly like the description on the menu. Because she was so rude I decided against ordering anything else and asked for the check. Our waitress was great and apologized for her manager. They didn't charge us for the meal which was nice but I'd never go back. Even on our way out we came across another couple who had a terrible experience. Never again.

The Olympic Cafe is definitely worth trying out if you're staying or driving through Kapa'a. It boasts your typical sports bar type food and salads, has a full bar, happy hour (w/ taco bar on Fridays), etc. Located on the second floor across from the ABC store, the open air feel (although covered), view of downtown Kapa'a and partial view of the ocean welcome locals and visitors alike.

    (3)
  • Pam B.

The Olympic Cafe is great for watching traffic drive by. Over priced frozen bar food with fair service. The food tastes like Costco frozen food. Carrots and broccoli from a bag heated in the microwave. I ordered the pulled pork. Salty pork with OK BBQ sauce. Wait staff is not friendly and they did not help with selections. They would rather talk to each other than wait on the customers. I would not waste my time again on this frozen food mecca.

We couldn't wait for the 2 hour line at the local Japanese sushi place so our friends said to try this place. Wow ! Great pasta, great Hawaii champagne mimosa, fish and chips are gigantic, great dinner experience. I am actually surprised from the lower Yelp scores from other customers but we came late dinner. Excellent service.

The night we got into Kauai we arrived later than planned, (than you GO! Airlines!) Since neither my husband , nor myself were very hungry, but knew we needed to eat a real meal, we wandered up and down the street waiting for something to sound appetizing to us. Since nothing struck us, we ended up at Olympic, mostly because they had sandwiches, and other simple dishes. I had the ahi tacos, and they were pretty good. The meal was light, and had lots of lean protein, which was exactly what I needed. I also had a really good drink there, (don't remember what it was, something tropical.) The view form this restaurant is probably the best in Kapa'a. You can see the entire street, and it was a great place for our first night in a new town. Food was more of a 3.5, but service was friendly, and pleasant, and the view was awesome, so for those reasons I'm bumping it to a 4.

We had dinner here twice while on our honeymoon because it was our kind of place - relaxed, non-touristy, and very laid back. The ambiance is great - nice and open-aired with great seats by the "window" that allowed you to people watch down below. Our server - we had the same one each time we went - was wonderful and very attentive. The food options reminded me of your standard pub fare with a Hawaiian twist. Everything we ate - kalua pork quesadilla, burgers, burritos, etc. - were delicious. They pour a stiff mixed drink, and they have a better than average beer selection as well. This is definitely a great place to enjoy a nice relaxing meal while on Kauai.

Not sure why this place is olympic...They get no medals from us. This was the only place on our entire trip where the service was below average, food mediocre, and attitude was non aloha. Our bruschetta had a weird garlic powder Staleness to it and the fish tacos were dry (meat) and soggy(tortillas). We went on a saturday night, nice hostess got us a table with a great view (the only positive). Felt like I was back in new York...waitresses looked like they hated life, came to check on us once and was at the bar the rest of the time or nowhere to be found. We ordered coffees (which were quite tasty and large) and the waitress attempted to explain why we would have to purchase a separate coffee for 2.90 to get it to-go even though we only had a few sips thus far and told her it was getting late and we had a long drive home. Her explanation still made no sense but we did get refills nonetheless. My boyfriend then went to the car to get our empty cups (if they don't want to "waste money on cups" we can bring our own right?!) and when he had barely sat back down the hostess came over immediately and said the manager would like to see what was in the cup. We showed her it was empty and she scurried away. We ended up staying to finish the coffees out of guilt and walked out hardly seeing any staff to greet or thank us for coming in. Definitely not worth the view.

Unfortunately there is no option for zero stars on yelp. Went here on vacation for a drink and my margarita came with MULTIPLE flies in it and didn't realize it until I swallowed a couple. Manager played it as if I should be grateful that I got such glorious flies in my drink and told us to "find a vacation stop that didn't have mosquitos". Thankfully the group of people I was with was decent enough to pay the bill and the fly filled drink because my ass would have been waking out without paying after the conformation with the excuse of a manager.

Consistently good food, good drinks, and good crowd. Usually ample parking in the back, since the street fills up at night. Bonus if you get a seat overlooking the street.

    (4)
  • Mandy B.

This place is great for drinks and food. It looks out over the street so Its great people watching. They also have TV's to watch sports. They have a pretty extensive menu and everything I have had has been good and everything that I have seen on other peoples tables looked great. Large portions and tasty + good prices (for the area) I love that you have the option to have papaya as a side to your meal if you want rather than fries. Bloody mary bar on Sundays too!

  • Gabriel T.

We ate here at least 4 times on our last visit to Kauai and my whole family loved it! Kids constantly wanted to eat there and they are generally picky eaters! Friendly staff and awesome open air seating with a nice view!

  • Scott G.

Unfortunately, I'm reading reviews after having visited. I had the mango macadamia nut ono and it was super dry because it was soo overcooked. the vegetables were not seasoned and also undercooked. The mashed potatoes were unfortunately the highlight for me. I like potatoes, but unless I order potato boats for some odd reason, they shouldn't be the best part of the dish. The flavor on the fish was awesome, but it would have been mind-boggling greatness if the fish were cooked right. If it's a case of not being able to pan fry the fish without over cooking, maybe it shouldn't be on the menu. Hostess was great, server/bartender was rude.

Breakfast review - i had the chocolate chip pancake and eggs, hubs got bacon and regular pancakes, both of loved our meal. Pancakes were perfectly fluffy.

Huge menu with some healthy and vegetarian options with decent prices. Locals and tourists are both comfortable there. Happy hour drink specials every night and free taco buffet on Fridays. We like a seat next to the open air window to see what's happening on the street below. Food is better than just bar food. Fish tacos are worth trying.

We stumbled upon the Olympic Cafe after shopping at the ABC Store and Garden Isle Bath and Body. It was around 3pm and we were hungry. We went to Pono Market, but they had already ran out of food! We walked to Bushido Sushi but they didn't open until 5:00, so we popped into Garden Isle and asked Cori and Craig whether we should do Noodle House or the Olympic Café. They'd lived here 7 years and never even eaten at Noodle House and so we ended up at the Olympic Cafe. The atmosphere is pretty cool - it's a big open area upstairs that has a view overlooking the shops on Kuhio Hwy. We order the coconut shrimp as an appetizer, which was tasty! I got the Kauai Wrap - romaine, carrots, cucumber, pineapple, avocado, sprouts. My daughter got the ahi nori wrap, which was like a giant sushi roll in a spinach wrap. The wraps come with a choice of melon, papaya, or their coleslaw. My daughter got the melon and I got the coleslaw. The coleslaw was really good - fresh and not runny in mayonnaise. My husband got the fish n chips, which were excellent! He says it's top 5 all time fish n chips for him - good batter (not breaded!!), super crispy, tasty Ono fish, not oily at all, and served with waffle fries. All the servings were HUGE! We each ate only half of our plates and took the rest back to our condo. My daughter and I could have shared one wrap. The service was okay, would have liked the personal touch of knowing our waitress's name. The 3 of us ate for over $55 - pretty pricey for lunch!

Cheeseburger was fabulous, fries good and service friendly!

  • J R.

We loved their huge pancake stacks! Definitely a breakfast nook that has fast, friendly service, and great food. Their fresh fruit platter is killer and their banana mac nut pancakes were delish! We wanted to go back but ran out of time. It's an open window restaurant but not really outside...kind of half and half!

    Nothing special.

  • Martin F.

Good burritos, friendly servers, great location, good size portions and average prices. For basic food, what more do you want?

    (4)
  • Tom I.

They claim to have the best fish tacos on the island. They're good, but I don't know enough about their competition to rate them the best. The fish tacos tasted really fresh and definitely different from other tacos I've ever had (had a tropical fruit flavor to go along with it). The drinks were pretty good, and pretty strong. I just wish they offered more in their servings! The restaurant itself is on a nice location, I like that you have a view of some of the area. The price was about average for a hawaiian joint.

    (4)
  • Lisa B.

Okay, so we ate here two times yesterday! Best restaurant meal yet! For lunch we had the blackened Ono sandwich and waffle fries. Delicious! Portions were large and did I say delicious?!! So we decided to try them for dinner as well. We ordered the seafood sampler and shared it. There was plenty for 2 people. Service was great both times...friendly waiters and waitresses! Make sure you give them a try while in Ka'paa!

    (4)
  • Andrea G.

Ending up at the Olympic Cafe twice... It seems there aren't any other bars in that little walkway of Kuhio Hwy in Kapaa that are open to the honeymooning day drinkers. (at least none with signage for thirsty newlyweds) We chose with some tall sugary drinks topped with a little umbrella and a pineapple slice... as well as the seared ahi appetizer. In the Kauai Revealed book it tells you not to eat fish here during taco happy hour... so I was hesitant. Especially when looking at the bar & glass chiller area, gosh- it looked like it had never seen some cleaner and rag in MONTHS. BLARG! The drinks were cold, the food was yummy and the service... well you hardly notice them and they hardly notice you.

  • Steven D.

Okay, it gets one star for location and for service. That's it. The food is unedible here. Wife had some sort of curry wrap that came with a wheel barrel full of Cole slaw (nasty). I had the cobb salad with just a ton of lettuce (like a whole head), slices of a huge rock hard avocado, some actually tasty bacon pieces, a few crumbles of feta cheese and that was about it. Not exactly what I would call a "Cobb"salad. Service was decent. But to be honest if you want tasty food, don't come here.

    (1)
  • Sharina N.

Had the breakfast burrito and it was FABULOUS. Filling big and tasty! The coffee was SO GOOD and plenty of it. The staff was attentive and nice. I will DEFINITELY return whenever I am on Kaua'i.

  • Kandy P.

LOVED this place for drinks and hanging out on a high table overlooking the street. We drank here for hours one afternoon, and it was breezy, and great. Came back for breakfast the next morning, and I wasn't as impressed. Food just wasn't very tasty, though my dining companions liked their breakfast burritos more than I liked my "Amigas Scramble". I will definitely go back to Olympic for drinks and the open, tropical feeling atmosphere. Plus, all the staff were really friendly.

Good fried seafood awesome fries. My girlfriends chicken wrap had way too much dressing though.

Good place to have drinks and get something to eat. The food is fresh and executed well. Nothing fancy. Don't sit in the balcony if the sun's out. Service could be way better.

We picked this place as our last stop of our honeymoon before heading to the airport for some breakfast. I loved the location of it and we got seated right away and the hostess was super nice. We had awesome seats which were right by the windows. Our waitress was nice at the beginning saying she was "thankful" that we ordered the portuguese sausage right....okay. Then, thats when the greatness ended for me. Our waitress never came back once except to leave us our check at the end. Isn't that crazy?!?! I ordered the California Omelette which had NASTY avocado on the top but the omelette was cooked good. My hubby had the pancakes and port sausage which he said wasn't as good as Kountry Kitchen. So, needless to say, we were super bummed about the service and quality of food for such a great spot!! Hopefully, they amp things up next time we head over to Kapaa. Otherwise, we are going to Kountry Kitchen for breakfast!

I came here with my family for dinner and Brian was our waiter. He was the best waiter evarr!!! He had great cadence and was very friendly. Brian gave great recommendations. We had kulua pork quesadilla, fish and chips, fish tacos, ahi wrap, pork burrito, and a bloody Mary. The Kailua pork was sooooooooooo tastyyyyy!!!! Definitely get that. They had good sized portions. Reasonable prices. The restaurant was open to the environment with a porch like feel which made for a nice breeze. The cocktails looked tasty and the bloodymary I had was good! It came with a salt rim, celery, lemon, lime, and olives. The roasted banana on the fish tacos was really good and the waffle-fries were delicious. (:

    A. Penthouse view of Kapa'a traffic a plus B. Food is very edible, tasty, not cheap, cilantro on everything for moi C. Open air lunch is never a negative D. Waitresses must come and go within a year; haven't seen the same ones each time I hit it up E. ABC store staring at you as you stare back at it I will hit it as often as possible.

Over cooked Fish N Chips. Undercooked hamburger ordered medium. Watered down drinks. Burnt out loser servers who are obvious broke transplants and not locals.TOURIST TRAP x10000. Go to a nearby local dumpy looking food stand...you'll get better food at better prices with local friendly service.

Mediocre food, poor and unfriendly service, overpriced options. The food came out lukewarm and the waitress acted annoyed that we were sitting in her section.

Great place for happy hour. The drinks are good and happy hour is a deal. Nice to people watch there. The food is typical bar style food a lot of deep fried stuff. Not bad at all but nothing to write home about. All in all a great place to try.

My sister and I went to this cafe on the recommendation of the hotel staff. The little strip of stores were really quaint and cute and the resturant had potential. But...when I ordered a burger with no cheese it came with cheese on it. I took one bite to see if I could infact eat the burger even though I hate cheese, but I could not. So I asked the waitress if there was something she could do. She took my whole plate (fries and everything) back to the kitchen. She brought me back my same burger on a different plate (sans the fries) and the burger had a bite taken out of it!! Ok, so it was likely the bite I took from it but ewww...all they did was scrap the cheese off the patty and reheat it and take away my fries! Small tip, good lava flow and excellent bbq sauce, but they get a NO for re-serving the food I sent back, yuck!

We went to Olympic Cafe on a recent visit to Kauai. Stumbled upon it as we were exploring early evening. We were greeted nicely by the hostess and taken to our table, our server was very personable and prompt. The cocktails were very good and we enjoyed the view over Kapa'a town's main street. Very disappointed however with the appetizers. We ordered the Calamari, it was overcooked and got only 7 small pieces and it cost around $12. Complained to the waitress and she informed us that is how the dish was prepared and that is that...no offer to take it off or replace it. The others were equally unimpressive. $60 for drinks and a few small appetizers left us feeling pretty gouged.

Great for an afternoon beer on the second floor overlooking the tiny old town of Kapaa. Also, monster burritos - get the Kailua Pig.

    (4)
  • T L.

I wasn't expecting much. The cafe is barely noticeable from street level. We walked up the stairs to the busy second floor dining area. The waitstaff seemed overworked and ignored us for a few minutes. But the food was high quality with generous portions. We had a wrap and a tropical salad. Each dish was enough for 2 persons. Both were fresh and well made. A large piece of seared ahi with wasabi sauce in the wrap and a hefty portion of nicely grilled chicken breast in the salad. Unfortunately, our waitress almost ruined the meal by tossing the bill at us without saying a word. Ambience **** second floor open air balcony overlooking Kapaa Food ***** Service ** Value ****

This place was extremely adequate with a disinterested wait staff. We went there for breakfast/lunch on a couple of occasions and the best thing I can say about it is that he portions were large and the tables overlooking the street provide a nice breeze

Went twice in one week on our trip. I am a burger snob. Not impressed by many. Had a patty melt and a California burger. Both were AWESOME! Thick, juicy, delicious burgers. Waffle fries were awesome. Good drinks also. Only reason four stars instead of five. No pickles??? What's up with that?

This is the place I stop and eat at after I arrive on the island. It's in Kapaa, so it's usually on the way to where I am staying. The food is good and the place is suitable for larger parties (I've never been there with less than 6 people). It is open air on the second level which seems to contribute to it's lively atmosphere. I've had a variety of things on the menu and find myself sticking to the things that have fish in them (tacos, sandwiches, etc...). The fish tastes pretty fresh and is never overcooked. Happy hour is also a pretty good deal here. They have some pretty good drink specials though the quality of the drinks seems to vary somewhat. I always start off with a lava flow and the last time I was there (beginning of May 2009), the drink was not as good as I remember it to be. Definitely a good place to eat though.

Good location in central Kapa'a town right on Kuhio Hwy. Close to LIH airport on the way up to the North Shore of Kauai. Nice 'booth' seating along open windows overlooking the street and town central shopping area. Beautiful view of "the Sleeping Giant mountain". Decent 'pub style' atmosphere and menu. We initially waited for a very long time until our server arrived (after being seated by the hostess), but it was probably because he was about to exit his shift and then we eventually were greeted by a new server who ended up being much more attentive. (This was not a huge problem, as we are not first time travelers to Hawaii and are OK with 'island time'.) We only wanted drinks and a small appetizer anyway. So, I had a Fire Rock Ale and the Shrimp Cocktail. Good enough. Not sure I would recommend this place for service, food or other. Only reason to go is perhaps to sit and enjoy the open view seating overlooking the mountain and town.

Big menu, great service, huge portions, nice location. Was a great choice with our two kids and my folks in tow. Stuck with the staples (burger, salad, chicken) and did not disappoint.

I have been to the Olympic Cafe a few times and always love the food. Last night I went with my family and we all enjoyed our meal. My parents shared the kalua pork burrito (because the portions are huge) and I had the hamburger with waffle fries. One problem I always have when I go there is that I can't make up my mind because the menu has so many diverse options. I really enjoy the atmosphere at the Olympic Cafe and would recommend it, especially if you're hungry!

Olympic Cafe was a good place to find when cruising around Kauai. It was a solid place to grab a drink during happy hour and the prices were good. Most places around Kauai seemed pretty expensive. Kapaa's traffic gets pretty miserable for a few hours in the late afternoon and Olympic Cafe's happy hour hits just in time for you to sit and watch the poor saps chug along while you get hammered/ Sweet!! Oh yeah, the food is good too. I had the Monster Burrito and the Kalua Pig Plate. Although I just pooped in the bathroom down the hall and the smell is a little rank...its destroying my memory of the pig plate, so get one of their mondo-sized salads instead.

Best thing about Olympic is the setting - 2nd floor, good tradewinds, open air feeling. Menu is boring andcould be fromany place on the mainland. No local ambiance. Only came here because the wait at Kountry Kitchen was too l ong and we had to get the kids fed (because they were ....starrrrrrvvvvviiiiiinnnnnngggggg). 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 bacon meal about $12.

Went there after a hike at waimea canyon and I had a small backpack and was told by the waitress that they would not serve me because of the backpack!!! I am a grey haired grandmother, I am not packing guns or drugs!!! Very unimpressed and insulting!

was introduced to this place by a local friend i met in kauai. the happy hour deal here for the appetizers is great. the coconut shrimp is one of my fav! the dinner entree portions are HUGE, one entree could def. feed 3 people. would def recommend this to anyone visiting kauai and staying nearby. this is a great spot to meet locals, great menu selection, highly recommended.

This was my favorite restaurant when I lived in Kapaa. It's sorta hidden, but once you go upstairs, you get a beautiful view of the island. My sister and I used to come here at least once a week, and the food was pretty amazing. The uplifting ambiance had us coming back, and I can't wait to visit the Island again, and more importantly this cafe =)

Great service and food. I had the burrito. They were open on a Sunday when other great restaurants were not. The bartender was very nice. All the servers were attentive to us, not just our server.

The food was decent and the service was good. The best part of this place is it opens to the street and makes you feel like part of the area. That said expect birds and well to be open to the environment!

  • Kellie B.

Huge portions. I had the kalua pig burrito and it had a good amount of meat in it with a fresh fruit salsa. I saw the fresh fruit appetizer go by and wished I had ordered it. It looked like two pounds of fresh cut fruit piled on a platter.

It's all about the view... the drinks are overpriced and the food was so so... wouldn't go there again.

We stopped in for lunch after a hike. The dining room was busy, but not overly so. Good - friendly greeting at the door, bloody mary bar, spicy chicken wrap, waffle fries Not so - no cream or spoon with coffee service, had to walk across the dining room to ask a manager. Coffee was cold by the time we got it. - loooong wait for cocktails. server told us the bartender's ticket blew away. - server didn't use a tray when delivering beverages, and wrapped her hands around the rims of our glasses (retch). - really dirty, sticky table. asked for a towel to clean it, but it never came I really like coming here, but the service is occasionally less than fun.

Great seating facing the Kapaa action, good food and decent service. The kalua pork is great and the fish tacos were solid as well.

  • Beatrice G.

The food was amazing! huge, I mean HUGE portions!!!! Great location as well. The only thing which was lacking was service where our waitress had to be told twice to bring us our water (which we ordered along with cocktails) and she did not omit the avocado as requested by my friend. Aside from that, I am surprised the overall rating of this place is so low... I would recommend this restaurant to any one of my friends and would definetly return!:) ps the ice cream cake dessert is amazing!!!!!! And can probably feed a family of 6 ...not kidding

Hawaiian, American food Local bar hangout Friendly service by Heidi Reasonably priced Pig out: Kahlua pig quesadilla, tacos, platter, etc. - all super flavorful Fresh fish, wraps, sandwiches Nice, gigantic salads e.g., tropical and taco salads were good Fantastic ice cream pie desserts

There are three things that I remember about Olympic cafe. First of all, when the restaurant was located across the street, the chef made the best tuna salad I ever had in my life. It was made with fresh Tuna, basil, cilantro and tarragon on a bed of greens and I think they had avos and tomatoes too. AMAZING. Since they moved across the street the two other things I experienced were a worse than normal hangover considering I only had one beer on tap, and what is definitively the worst calamari I have ever tasted. The REAL problem with the calamari was that breading was about 55% of the volume-which was especially disappointing because it was very expensive as well.

Definitely great food! Best place I've eaten in Kapaa so far. Especially for the price. The mai tais are the best!

    (4)
  • Sue R.

Don't bother. Canned black beans with dry cold fish tacos. My husbands blackened fish was supposed to come with potatoes and came with balls of cold rice. The Mai tais were watered down. And the waitresses were all eating off "mistakes" in a table in the dining room.

Been here like 5 times for breakfast and 2 times for lunch or happy hour. The happy hour specials are good. The made from scratch bloody marys are good too. My traveling partner and I have tried quite a few different breakfast items and like them all. The restaurant is all on the second level and almost a completely open air. The ocean side of it has a nice view past the parking lot and is alot quieter than the more available street side view. Either way it's views of Kauai, right!! Now I know this place is good because I have seen local Hawaiians eating here more than twice. Which means it's also good for the money.

This morning we had a awesome breakfast at Olympic Cafe! We ordered the macadamia/banana pancakes and bacon avocado cheddar omelette, both were huge portions of course....great value, as I should have taken the rest of my uneaten pancakes home, they would be great right now! Lots of nuts/bananas also served coconut syrup...the best ever!!!

  • Sam M.

My hubby and I stopped in here for a drink while walking around Kapaa. I can't comment on the food as we only had drinks. We both ordered a Mai Tai, which was pretty bad. Very little flavor and watered down. We were both pretty disappointed but the hostess and our server was very nice and attentive.

  • Christian P.

Food: too many options which often means that quality suffers Setting: very nice, watch the sun go down from their second floor front-row tables Staff: very friendly Would like to give more stars, but the dishes remind me too much on fast food. Never order pasta here, total failure!

    (3)
  • Brianna P.

Food was good until I found a crawling worm in my wrap... When I told the waiter he comped the meal but said that's just what you get here with natural food... Still feel like puking... And the wait staff is less then desirable.. Seem to have picked most them up straight off the beach. Board shorts, bong, No shower and all!

    (1)
  • Chris S.

I wanted to give this one star but since I only went there once I thought that might be a bit harsh. I got an ono fish taco, and it was tasteless. I also got a Mai tai that was horrible; it's predominant flavor wasn't Juice or Rum, it was water... from the ice. This place could be skipped completely to save any disappointment.

  • Julie T.

This place was a great place to grab some lunch after our hike that morning. Another recommendation from some locals that turned out to be alright. It was nice sitting up top overlooking the street below (except for all the birds! wow!!) and the service was fine. Overall you will not be disappointed and the fish tacos here were good, but not 5 stars like Pau Hana.

  • Tony R.

The Olympic Cafe has something for you, whenever you're hungry...Breakfasts are huge, and very tasty, while their lunch and dinner selections never disappoint. There is something for everyone on their menu. The staff is courteous and friendly, the drinks are cold...you get a bird's eye view of the Kapa'a crawl, and as you sip something cold, you're glad you're not part of the crawl today. Parking around back, in case street parking is scarce...just take the right just before the light...hard to see, so look!

We just happened to pop in this place one night on our vacation when the restaurant we where planning to go to turned out to be closed. The Kapaa street festival was going on, so it was quite crowded and they said the wait time would be around 45 minutes. We decided to stick it out and are so glad we stayed. The wait ended up being more like 15 minutes and the service and food was great. I ordered the Papaya & Mac nut Ono and it was excellent and was served with mixed veggies & mashed potatoes. The husband had the roasted tomatito(sp) ono with the same sides and equally enjoyed it. We would definitely recommend this place. The only dark spot was while waiting we watched the manager treating the hostess in a very rude manner (clapping her hands at her and using the tone of one speaking to an errant child) and to someone who works in the service industry, it was slightly off putting. Other than this, everything was great!

This place is okay. They have huge portions so prepare to either be overly stuffed or share with someone. Waffle fries are prob my fav part. They have salads (meh) burgers, fish tacos. And sandwhiches. They also have breakfast too, which is pretty good, I like their Hawaiian french toast.

We have always been happy with the food and service at Olympic Cafe. It is centrally located in Kapaa, with parking right behind it. A good variety off choices on the menu. We usually stop for breakfast and/or lunch. Good beer menu also.

Standard pub grub at best. We saw waitresses using straws to take drinks from a customer's frozen drink before serving it. The straws were new and they used the stick it in and put your finger over the top method so they didn't contaminate it. still very unsettling, we left after seeing this.

Late night dinner with Ro and Uncles.. I had the angel hair pasta.. They give you a huge serving, wish they gave me more tomatoes with it. But it was very yummy. Hubby had the carne asada burrito and he said it was good and the black beans in it were delish. His burrito was huge! SO they give you good size portions.

Nice location and Service was good with friendly staff. Kalua pork and burgers were good with substantial portions. The fish sandwich was "ok" but I would not recommend the Fish tacos a "house speciality". They were served without salsa, minimal shredded lettuce and overcooked ahi.

Olympic Cafe has good food, but very slow service. They have a nice happy hour on Fridays as well. Nice place to hang out, drink a drink and watch folks go by in Kapaa Town.

We ate at Olympic Cafe twice while in Kauai last week. The first time was our second night on the island, and we liked it so much we returned our last night. Their menu is extensive and has something for everyone. The fish tacos were definitely a hit, as was the mushroom quesadilla. I had an ahi sandwich the first night, which wasn't anything special, but that same ahi in the fish tacos was amazing. Their grilled bananas were phenomenal, and I loved that you could get fresh melon or papaya as a side. On our first night, the waitress rushed over as soon as we sat down to get our drink order in before the end of happy hour, which was really nice. Service was a bit slower on our second trip, but it was a much busier night and the wait staff was extremely friendly. It's also obviously a local favorite as well a popular spot for tourists.

I ate here twice this week. The food and drinks are reasonably priced, the service was fast, and the portions were good. The open air atmosphere is very relaxing, and we enjoyed watching the world go by below us from the 2nd story location. I appreciated the option of healthy sides (papaya slices etc) for sandwiches, although my husband's waffle fries were pretty tasty too. The coconut shrimp at happy hour was awesome!

Good selection of food available in different price ranges. Their criss-cut fries are quite tasty. Wraps and sandwiches seem to be good as well. And as another plus they let you sub papaya for the fries and have guava and other juices available.

We recently had dinner here and needles to say the place smelt wonderful so we expected a great meal! After having to wait 15min for a table we waited another 5 min for our server to come, she came and asked if we wanted anything to drink so we ordered a sprite that came back flat, nor did we even get water either. We also orders a kauai 50 which never came and the waitress actually had to say "didn't you order a drink, oh it may be watered down now" who says that. We orders appetizers chips and salsa and calamari the chips were hard and the salsa wasn't really salsa the calamari was good excepted we waited half an hour for it to come. We orders our dinners which was a rib eye, the tomatillo fish, and a ahi wrap. The rid eye was pan cooked on one side a broiled on the other it had no taste what so ever completely bland, the Ono was ok, minus the jar tomotila sauce that was poured over it, the ahi wrap had more tomatoes in it then anything else. Needless to say our service was mediocre we were shoved way in the back of the restaurant and had a waitress with no personality. This place basically sucks and I'm surprised it's still up and running.'

Olympic Cafe was OK for lunch but there are better places in Kapa'a. I had the Kahlua pig burrito; my wife had the Kahlua pig sandwich. Unless you're an NFL lineman or linebacker, you can easily feed two persons with this very large entrée. It is stuffed with Kahlua pig, Spanish rice, and black beans and topped with guacamole, sour cream, and a mango/papaya chutney. Unfortunately, the rice and beans overpowers the taste of the Kahlua pig. My wife enjoyed her sandwich. Service was adequate. Our server took our drink and lunch order, delivered our drinks, and that was the last we saw of her for a while. Our lunch and take home foil was delivered by others. We finally had to flag down our server to request a drink re-fill and the bill. Parking is at the rear of the building if you don't find a spot on the main street. Turn on Kukui, take a right and you'll see the lot on your right.

I ordered the fish tacos because it said "best fish tacos on the island" on the menu. I even asked the waitress if they are good and she said that they are great! So I ordered them and they were on a plate in a rubbery tortilla that was wet. There was only fish cubes in the tortilla. The fish was over cooked. There was no sauce no spice... Nothing! I had to ask the waitress to bring me so me hot sauce and she brought me some Taco Bell Hot Sauce!!! Are you kidding me?!?! Wow! If they consider those the best fish tacos on the island, I feel sorry for locals of Kauai. Come visit San Diego and I will show them fish REAL fish tacos!!!! And they won't cost you $12 like they do at Olympic Cafe. My girlfriend ordered the BLT and it came to her on burnt toast. You would think the waitress would notice that and not serve it. The BLT also was dry. No mayo...nothing. This place is GARBAGE!!!

Love this open air place, great food, large portions and friendly service. Go for happy hour, the coconut shrimp are crispy and yummy! They are busy so if you want a table that you can look out over the city on the open area go early or later after dinner hour. We had lunch and dinner here and of course a blue hawaii and a long board...can't wait to go back, who needs to fancy hotel restaruants that over charge and look down their noses!

What a great location! They are perched high above the Kuhio Highway in downtown Kapa'a and face west towards the awesome hills and valleys. We stumbled upon it when we were hurriedly leaving Shaka Taco across the street after we say their lackluster menu. They have a really big menu here and a full bar. The breeze coming in the open terrace upstairs was amazing and made the hot day feel perfect. My honeys burger was really good and the giant criss-cut fries were super crispy. I had the fish taco platter and it was a lot of food. The fish tasted a little strange, really fishy, so I only ate one of the tacos. The black beans and rice were nothing to write home about, but I was in love with their grilled banana. Brown sugar on one side and grill is for a few minutes and its one of the best fruit desserts I've ever had! Recommended for the views, but stay away from the tacos, even though the menu boasts them being the best on the island.

If you have read some of reviews - I am always in search of the most perfect Ceasar Salad....and after the Bubba's fiasco - I was very disheartened on the gorgeous island of Kauai because although surrounded by beauty and the most fertile ground EVER - vegetables & salad were scarce in most meals. And then my friend, Barbara, while we were eating in Kountry Kitchen (see my other review) told me about the Olympic Cafe and their salads. Ok - it is in the heart of Kapa'a town and although we have visited Kauai since 2000 - we have NEVER even thought about going there. I dunno why - maybe it was the people hanging over the side looking down into the street, or the seemingly noisy atmosphere...? Well, we went to lunch at Olympic Cafe and I, of course, ordered their chicken ceasar salad (and a california burger just in case the salad was depressing) The salad came in a large bowl, with fresh shredded parmasaen cheese sprinkled all over, lovely chunks of grilled chicken breast and uber crunchy croutons tossed all through. Their was JUST enough salad dressing laying on each crisp piece of romaine lettuce - and it was all in bitesize pieces. PERFECT. I had promised to share it with hubbie - and I was kinda mad that I'd offered - because truthfully I wanted to eat the ENTIRE thing by myself =) It was so good that the same day - in the evening - we went there again and I just had a ceasar salad this time - and the pig that I am - I ordered just a hamburger medium. This time their was too much dressing - but I still ate it all. And I had to send my hamburger back because it was well done - and the one I got again - still well done - so maybe I should have ordered it RARE?? The NEXT time which was two days later at a dinner event that Olympic has every friday as their "happy hour" (FREE TACOS, coconut shrimp, hot wings and other appetizers for $5.00) starting at 5pm - I HAD to order the ceasar salad AGAIN without chicken (hey I opted for the hot wings!) and this time I asked for the dressing on the side and I was pleasantly surprised that my salad was sooo crisp and yummy AGAIN! Now they have burgers on the menu, some mexican food (hubbie ordered their spinach and mushroom quesadilla) and other things like steak and fish - but of course, I only dream of their ceasar salad (with or without chicken) The service was friendly and the atmosphere nice. Yes, being able to look across the street to "Shaka Tacos" and listen to their band play was nice too.

This location has been a lot of different restaurants. This trip, it was the Olympic Cafe. The food was just so so for me. I picked the quesadilla that didn't list cilantro as an ingredient. I asked if there was cilantro in it and the waitress said no. Then she remembered the salsa did. So I asked for it without. After about 15 minutes of waiting for our food, the waitress came back out and said the guacamole had cilantro in it and that I could just scrape it off since it was already on my food. My meal was also cold. But the view of the street made for good people watching.

I love this place because you can have nice views of either the sunset or of people walking by downtown Kapa'a. I came here for both happy hour and dinner. For happy hour you can get $2 beers and watch sports at the bar. I met some locals and they offered some suggestions for cool places to visit. For dinner, I had the Island Burger. The meat was tender and juicy. Fries were also really good. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Service was good but then again I may be a bit biased since I knew one of the guys that worked here. They also have pastas and other bar type food.

Talk about mixed opinion, this one takes the cake for me. We had a decent-sized party (7) and they got us in quickly. The staff was friendly, the environment excellent with breezes flowing. Very comfortable, but one of our party had huge issues with her fish. First it was undercooked, then it was unevenly cooked, with the middle part pretty raw. The manager that came out was pretty impatient and combative (weirdly) but granted our one party member was pretty over it by then and didn't feel she should have to pay. I understand both views, he's cooked two pieces of pretty costly fish. HOWEVER, my Olympian sandwich was, not exaggerating, probably the best tasting sandwich I can remember. Delicious and huge, I took half the next day on our kayak/hike to a waterfall. So, I'm conflicted, because of the sandwich factor and that everyone else in our party was totally happy and actually even wanted to go back even after "the fish incident". For the fish, after some wrangling the manager agreed to only charge half. Seemed pretty fair to me, but could have been done a little more diplomatically. But hey, I understand, it's a business. That sandwich is amazing but you have to be really hungry and really into meat.

  • Morgan F.

The great thing about this place is its one the second floor, so you can look down at the view....okay...not too much esp if there is traffic, but its better than looking at the walls and especially if you are on vacation in Hawaii, you want to be thinking about that and getting to see it all the time, right? Well, I also have a thing for booths and most of the place is booths, so booth with a view and you have got me! I went here for breakfast and they have an AWESOME breakfast selection. I decided on a Avacado and Brie omlete yuuummmm! While in Hawaii I always try and drink as much Guava juice as possible and this was no exception, very good! My friend got a Bloody Mary and it was nice and large with a huge happy celery stick.

The cafe has a beautiful view, second floor on the main street in Kapaa. The happy hour pupus are $5 each - a steal. The mai tais are a little too sweet for my liking, the wine list isn't extensive but I doubt people go there for good wine. Overall, a good happy hour and people watching spot.

I had the fish tacos - they were actually pretty good. I'm comparing this to the fish tacos I once had at Calypsos which I think made me sick and tasted bland. These fish tacos were very flavorful and that also added a fried banana on top which was weird but tasty. I forgot the fish they use, but it was either ahi tuna or mahi mahi... I wish they gave you 3 tortillas though because there is too much rice, beans, meat, cheese, and papaya salsa to stuff into two small sized flour tortillas. Also wish they put the filling in already instead of just letting you make it yourself - I'm lazy :(

Good variety on the menu. Great staff, bar and view of Old Kapaa. Have recommended it and will go there again. They have a brie, avocado, sun dried tomato on sourdough that is great! Get the macadamia nut pie too! Shortbread crust with a carmel and macadamia nut filling. It's a great local twist on pecan pie.

We recently spent a week on Kauai and ate here 3 times during our stay. The Ceasar salad is huge, and for a bit more you can ad local fresh fish. Delicious! I had the fish tacos, quite good but a little dissapointed on the portions. Tried the mixed seafood platter and this was quite good. If you come here for nothing else, you have to try the Kauai pie, their version of mud pie, with coffee flavored ice cream, chocolate ice cream, macadamia nuts, on an oreo cookie crust. Pure deliciousness!

It's alright. We got a burger that was good, but then next time got a wrap that had a surprise ingredient not listed on the menu that I think were nuts? I'm not really sure, they looked and tasted like nuts and were everywhere, literally taking over our wrap. Thankfully, neither of us are allergic to nuts, but it grossed me out and I would have asked for it without them if I knew they were in there. It was okay, but I wasn't able to eat much 'cause the nut things were everywhere. Also, the servers here (like just about everyone in Kauai) have that whole "we hate tourists" thing going on. Not to mention one wore shorts so tight and short I could literally see her cheeks the whole time. Sad to say this was probably the best food we got in Kauai. I'd find a hotel with grills and cook for yourself.

Love this place! All the chicks that work there are super nice. Food is good, they have a nice smorgie of choices. i love the fish and chips! Made with fresh Ono or some other local catch, not frozen cod garbage. Great strong cocktails, and on Friday they have an all you can eat taco bar, all you have to do is buy 2 drinks. It is nice and open, you have a view of the beach, as well as all the people walking by below.

My husband and I were on our 3rd visit to Kauai, HI. We celebrated our 20th Wedding Anniversary in Kauai last year and visited the Olympic Cafe for the first time. OMG...the chorizo breakfast burrito was fantabulous. The french toast was pretty darn good as well. I like that fact that it was upstairs becase we were able to get a decent view. I would definitely recommend stopping by for breakfast.

Five stars and this is for breakfast yesterday. I flew out the day before just to get away from the cold weather only to find out both homes in NYC and DC were in the 70's yesterday... GO FIGURE. The layout here is great and always ask for a side table so you can sit back and watch the world strol by. The food was perfectly made with local ingredients and the coffee (a big deal in my world at 8:20 AM) was good. I left with an Olympic Cafe mug after the owner recognized me.

We found out about this place from a local we met at the hula girl restaurant. The kahlua pig quesadillas were delicious! The coconut shrimp appetizer was great too. So were the drinks, which come in tall tall glasses. I love Lava Flows! The restaurant is located on the second floor so you have to walk up some stairs. We were seated on the side that was sort of a terrace and looked out to the street (downtown kapaa). The open terrace provided an airy feeling to the place - i thought it was a pretty fun atmosphere. Service was good.

Great happy hour deals with $5.00 drinks and appetizer assortments! Friendly service and good food in a relaxed environment. Huge menu selection and portions are very generous. The seafood and fish & chips platter is yummy and so are the fish tacos! I also had the fresh catch fish of day which is Ono (white fish) charboiled with avacado garlic butter with tomatillo sauce and killer garlic mash potato! Good spot for lunch or dinner. Sit on top floor, enjoy a great meal while taking in the sights and shops. Recommend the lava flows which are good and like the food portions they don't skimp on the rum!

EWWWWWW. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and loving Kauai. We ordered dinner with drinks as we watched the street below. I ordered a seafood platter and enjoyed it as we were serenaded by the open mic night at the bar across the street. As we were waiting for the check I happened to look down at the remainder of food on my plate AND WATCHED A COCKROACH CRAWL OUT OF MY HALF EATEN FRIES. I have never been so disgusted in my entire life. I realize they are abundant on the islands but they should never be crawling out of my food. GROSS.

Generally I am a consistent yelper while on vacation, but this place we tried on a whim. Turns out it gets good reviews anyways. We wanted a steak/seafood place where we could bring our kids that wouldnt break the bank. This. is. it. Great atmosphere, sort of a bar/grill atmosphere, music playing but not too loud, yet its loud enough that my kids screeching or making noises didnt bother anyone. Drinks were delicious. Steaks and seafood were reasonably priced and exceptionally for taste. Right off a main road in Kapaa so its easy to get to as well!

Overpriced, poor service and lack of taste in each of the dishes. We were there for dinner.

Great happy hour place. Food is good and reasonable. Pina Coladas are horrible. So are the lava flows. Mai thais are good. 5 dollar coconut shrimp and taco bar with a 2 drink minimum . Worth your money. Waiter service is so so. Some have attitude. But I'll come back next time.

I live on Kauai and have tried Olympic cafe a few times and walked out a few times because my husband and I could not get any service. The food is OK if you can get someone to help you.

This is probably the best Kauai has to offer, and I'm not sure if it would rate 4 stars in an absolute sense. Fairly standard Ameri-Hawaiian food - pig and eggs [yes, I wrote 'pig'], ahi sandwich, etc. You can sub papaya for fries with any order, which is a selling point - most other restaurants here can't seem to figure out why anyone would want to eat any of Hawaii's amazing fruit.

    (4)
  • Jane R.

We ate here for lunch. The portions were ridiculously large. I had a burrito that was at least a foot long and 4" around! The food was good. It is an open air 2nd floor restaurant overlooking the main street in Kapaa.

The view and the service were fine but the food--and even the iced tea!--were flavorless.

  • Sammy D.

Great for breakfast on Kauai. Superior for its TALL coffee cups and great people watching. Also, fresh papaya often accompanies the omelets and scrambles which are all delicious (even the one with tortilla chips in it.) However, avoid at night at all costs. The local scene is pretty ridiculous and the food is just not as good as other offerings on the island. Breakfast - GO Dinner - hell no.

  • Christy S.

My wife and I eat here alot. We've had great food every time and the price is reasonable (by Kauai standards). But beware, if you go on a Friday night expect to wait a long time as the bar has free tacos and everyone and their dog comes out for free food. But overall I love this restaurant, one of my favorites on Kauai

    (4)
  • Melanie I.

We had the most awful service ever here. And since I used to wait tables, I am very lenient about slow service. The night we went. the place was maybe half full, We still waited half an hour before our server took our order. The pork quesadilla and salads were pretty good, but not worth the wait.

    (1)
  • D G.

I think this is as close to a night-life as Kauai can get. They do have a good happy hour deal. The place was very busy when we went so people must like this place. I will probably go back for drinks.

I've always wanted to try Olympic cafe, it's a pretty cool setting high above Kuhio highway and i've heard some dope stories about their taco Fridays. Well after our walk on the bike path which is located behind of the restaurant, we figure we stop by for happy hour and since it was Friday- we could experience the whole Taco Friday thing. It was our first time there got a killer table on the balcony's high topp, ended up playing "who could find the ugliest car", happy hour was $1 off any alcoholic drinks, had a margarita which was okay, so i ended upp having $2 Bud lights! a lot of them lol. We ordered garlic shirimp which was just okay as well. Service was slow- really slow, i had to wait with an empty drink everytime. No one mentioned anything about the "taco" shin dig so yeah, and the best one yet was when i was looking for the bathroom the girl who was working told me it was downstairs and to my right but it was to my left (like she even did the whole hand movement thing) -it's either she doesn't know the difference between left and right or she was new there and just guessed where the bathrooms were. Or maybe she was trying to punk me. So yeah, overall- it was not bad, our table was cool! I would go there again with a friend really wanted to go,other then that, nope- ahh MAYBE for breakfast.

This place has a decent menu and great atmosphere. Typical bar food, sandwiches, burgers, tacos, but it is all good and made with fresh, mostly organic ingredients. From the side tables, you feel like you can see everything that is going on in Kapa'a, streetlife and sunsets. The salads are huge-- enough to feed four people and the specialty cocktails are tasty. Our service was great. The waitress was even kind enough to bring me some Band-Aids for my blistered feet.

Enjoyed the Olympic Cafe for lunch. Had the Onto sandwich & fish & chips. Very good and prepared just right. We got a front window seat, which was nice and if you know the place, there are no windows... just a great view over the downtown area. Come, eat and enjoy. No disappointment here...

I had lunch at this resturaunt today and asked for a medium burger, waited about 20-30 min to get a burnt overcooked unappetizing burger, also forgot the bacon that came with the burger. Bad food service, note for all servers on good service. Make sure what you are giving your customers is the correct thing that they want, it is also your responsibility as a server not just the kitchens duty.

Came here for breakfast and it was just okay. (Something about it does make it feel very touristy.) I had the kalua pork, 2 eggs, and rice. The kalua pork was pretty standard luau fair. I'm pretty sure they gave me more than 2 eggs because that portion was HUGE! Some chicken must have laid some pretty hefty eggs. I enjoyed sitting up top and watching the cars go by. My sister was disturbed by the number of local feathered friends flying in and out of the establishment. I didn't mind, but I can understand how germophobes would question the cleanliess.

  • Kim D.

Really really really bad. Wow. Nice people but really low grade food especially for the price. Flies everywhere and I have eaten at quite a few places here without that particular pleasure. Ahi tuna salad consists of an ice cream scoop of canned tuna salad atop greens. Really just a lame effort all around.

Cross your heart Catholic style when you mention the name of this place. My wife and I eat here often, in the two weeks we stay on Kauai. Great fish tacos. She loves the cobb salad. The beer is cold, the wine liberal, the clientel a mix of island visitors and local folks. Can't beat the location (for Kapa'a), overlooking the street, across from the ABC store, we prefer to sit street side. But the ocean-side tables are nice, too. And plenty of breezes. Now sing it with me, "holy, holy, holy..."

    (5)
  • Anaik M.

Typical bad American cafe food & poorly made drinks - A beer is a safe bet. But, they are very accommodating for big groups of people & the location is great with open windows & views of Kapaa town. Fun place minus the food.

  • Joann H.

too slow staff and it wasn't busy. Food was mediocre at best: Weak drinks food ok, nothing crazy good from my wrap. Extra star was for the KAUAI pie. OMG that dessert is huge, no joke huge. Delicious and worth every calorie. Definitely need to share. if the service would've been a bit more attentive, I may have come back to try again. Womp womp.

We make this our first breakfast stop every time. We love the food and the service. The portions are do large that you can easily share. In fact most times we do just that. We love the window seats. You can sit and enjoy the people watching. They also told us that the save any food left on the plates to donate to local food kitchens. I can't wait till our next visit to Kauai so we can come back!

Came in for Happy Hour, looked like a fun place. We sat next to the open windows overlooking the street. It was a great view, beautiful atmosphere. They have both food and drink specials for Happy Hour, which is 7 days a week. We tried several things. Usually I don't eat fried seafood, however I make an exception for coconut shrimp when in Hawaii. Their coconut shrimp were great! I ate 2 plates, yup two. You can't beat fresh shrimp and fresh coconut. Huge different from the pre-made frozen stuff they serve in the mainland...at least where I live in Kansas. We also had the wings, pretty good too, nothing unique. The plates aren't huge, but they are enough to share. I recommend stopping here for Happy Hour, also heard they have a good breakfast but we didn't get to try it.

When you order fish tacos you want to taste fish. All I could taste was seasoning. The service was mediocre (being very generous). That plus the day we visited the place wasn't even that busy. The other food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I did enjoy their pico de gallo.

    (2)
  • Mark V.

The wait staff is excellent and if you get a booth by the street it really cool. The menu is extensive and tasty - burgers are tasty, pasta dishes are good (go for the ravioli) and the beer is cold. A nice stop in paradise.

My husband and I came in to watch some football and get a bite. We slit a huge salad and it was awesome. They had a Bloody Mary bar. Lots of draft beer options. Worth a visit.

Amazingly satisfying food. Nothing else to add really. First time I came here was in 2008 and this place still rocks. Killer wraps, screaming burgers, enticing salads. Service was always friendly, never an issue. And yes, ask to be seated on the "ledge" so you get the view. Can't wait to go back.

We headed upstairs to he Olympic Cafe for lunch today...we were bumming around town since it is rainy today. We had a pretty good dining experience here, but service was a little slow even being after lunch and not that busy. They really do have a nice location - an open air restaurant over downtown shops...lots of tables, but all the view tables were occupied. It took our waitress a little bit to come and greets us, but she did make excellent recommendations on their teas. My Mom and I had the Pomegranate Berry and the Coconut Cream teas poured over ice and they were divine. My Mom had the tuna salad salad, and I had the tuna melt with papaya for my side...everything was very, very yummy...hit the spot! While our waitress was mostly attentive, she was a little sparse towards the end of our meal. We saw her over in the corner playing with her hair and spacing out...but she did come over after that. For our whole lunch, we spent just over $35 including tax and tip, which for Kuai at a sit down restaurant, isn't half bad. The bathroom situation was a little strange...but they were fairly clean and mostly well maintained. So, I'm giving 3 stars for a pretty decent, middle of the road lunch. I feel that 4 stars is too high....and 3 may be too low...it was more like 3.5, which is about the Yelp average on here anyways...so you can consider that pretty honest. Service could have been better...but otherwise, I would definitely go again!

I got the ahi nori wrap with side of papaya and wanted to cut back on the carbs, lots of mixed plates lately lol the kitchen was nice enough to sub rice out for lettuce. The hubby got the Kahlua pork quesadilla with fruit salsa and other fixings. My wrap needed a extra something since it was missing rice. The fruit salsa was so good it made the perfect accompaniment. Sat by the open window and had a great view of the mountains. Came for dinner, most the stores closed early :(

Great place for breakfast and a Bloody Mary. Bring an appetite or plan to share. I had the kalua pork breakfast burrito. It was huge I didn't plan to eat it all but I could not stop and walked out stuffed to hilt.

We had breakfast next to a window overlooking the street. It was a nice way to start our first vacation In Hawaii. I had eggs over and Portuguese sausage pretty basic, a good job. The home fries were cooked perfectly. They had too much thyme for my liking. It was a bit over-powering. Bro-in law had the roasted Denver omelette using roasted bell pepper I had a bite. It was good enough. The girls split the "breakfast quesadilla with bacon" it was big enough for the two of them with all the fixings, including half an avocado that I helped them eat. Sometimes, I like a funky breakfast. They have plenty of choices and large portions If you have fussy eaters in your bunch there are plenty of choices here ie. Kalua pig &eggs, or Ahi & eggs and pancakes etc. The seats in the back of the place give you a pretty good view of the ocean. On the way out we even saw a whale frolicking in the ocean back there. the staff did seem pretty busy entertaining each other. we had pretty good service it was not too busy when we were there. The service was adequate. It was more of a laid back bar atmosphere which was fine and not too busy. I'd go back..if i could afford it. 10$ to 15$ per item for breakfast.

Great stop for a drink and a bite. They have yummy wraps and the usual bar food. The drinks are good and you CAN NOT beat the view!! Sometimes the bartenders are a but snoody but I'm sure they get tired of tourists... But you live in a state with more tourists than locals... So get over it.

Decent food. Decent service, but the difficulty the waitress and the general manager gave me splitting checks was infuriating. We had a group of six, two people which were paying together, and the waitress refused to split our checks though we were all willing to pay the group gratuity. We all ended up agreeing to split the check equally on five cards, but one person paid 20 more dollars than they actually would have paid. I tried to explain to the general manager how inconvenient that was, and she just told us that was restaurant policy. I find it difficult to enjoy a place that won't acclimate to their customers, especially after trying to explain how inconvenient their policy was. It seems they believe in convenience for themselves before the customers. Think twice before going here with a group.

This place has ups and downs. The ups include gigantic desserts. The downs include unhappy servers, coupled with mandatory tips, which makes for an interesting night. They also serve vegetables straight out of the bag. No cutting or spices. Just baby carrots that are steamed.

  • Eek A.

The kalua pork burrito had a pretty good flavor, but was obviously sitting under a hot lamp for hours. The edges of the tortilla tasted like it was microwaved, were chewy and gross. The rice was dehydrated and crunchy. My GF had a chicken wrap and it was one of the most bland things I ever tasted. The service was questionable, not very friendly. The view is nothing great, back alley or sidewalk. I was going to give it 2 stars, but I just couldn't find a reason.

  • Kevin T.

This place was awesome! My wife and I ate there twice. Both nights we had the Kalua pork, it was very tasty. We originally shied away from the place due to its rating but decided to get it a shot anyway and I am glad we did. I give this place five stars for several reasons, first, its about the cheapest sit down place to eat on island, the food is tasty, and the drink/beer selection is good. Atmosphere is good. All around solid location. This and one other place was the only restaurant we gave repeat business. So if you are on island, looking for a place to have a very reasonably priced meal, and drinks. This is it.

We came in for breakfast this morning. We live here on the west side - not tourists or from Kapaa. We happened to be in the area this morning for breakfast. My husband had a Greek omelet plate and I got a side order of eggs, planning to split his home fries. The food had good flavor and somewhat larger portions. The wait staff was also friendly. However, they didn't get a full 5 stars from us due to the hair or string found on the potatoes. The manager came out and said it looked like it came from the potato bag. I said "oh, so the potatoes weren't cleaned very well?" She said yes. Said she could get us more potatoes. I'm like "no we already ate enough an don't want more". After finding what looks like a white hair...who would want more? Anyway - they didn't compensate us for any part of our meal. Simply apologized and we paid full price. We even tipped the waitress! Just sad - You would think they would offer something of a discount after finding hair or pieces of bags in our food. Where's the customer care or the desire to have repeat business? Is our $ no good? I'm just disappointed in the care of customers on that level by management. The wait staff was embarrassed and we could see that...but If you really want repeat business from people then take care of them and comp their meal when they have something in their food!

First time here and it was okay. We had like a seared Ahi appetizer with Wasabi aioli (?). It was alright. Tasty enough. We also had a large order of waffle fries. Nice and crispy. I got a shrimp salad for my meal. It was gi-normous. I asked for no tomatoes and lo and behold, when I got my salad - full 'o tomatoes. I had to send it back because it was covered in it. No issues with that tho. It was just so much salad. Nothing special...just big. My fiance got a quesadilla and my friend got a patty melt. Both reported their meals were okay - nothing super special... again, just very large. Two people can easily share a meal. The restaurant is very loud, but I like the open, airy-ness. It was a nice day, so it was enjoyable. Bathrooms are outside and downstairs, like others have mentioned, not a huge inconvenience, but would be nice if it were inside without a code. I had to hunt a staff down for the code. Anywho, I don't know if I'd come back. There are so many other places to try, but I'm glad I came here to find out.

The view and outdoor seating are great when the weather's cooperating, but on a windy day it gets a little chilly. Overall a good place to grab a bite. Service was a little spotty - took a while for waters and place settings but we weren't really in a rush. Pretty decent menu - full of Kalua pig choices. I went with the Kalua pig quesadilla - it came with guac, sour cream and fruity salsa. It sounded SO GREAT on paper but unfortunately it was just not jiving with my taste buds. Too much pork for the quesadilla - it felt heavy and greasy, not light and delicious. A friend got the Kalua pig sandwich and LOVED it - so no loss there. Started with some hummus (kinda dry and crumbly) and most people opted for sandwiches and burgers. Nothing to write home about, to be sure. But a fun place to hang for a bit nonetheless.

Good sized portions and friendly staff! We had dinner here twice on the island and it was hearty portions for around $35-40 for 2 people. If you need a break from the $100 dinners on the island this is great place with great great food! Turkey club (massive sandwich) & Bacon Avocado burger were phenomenal!

4 stars for great atmosphere - lively scene where you can people-watch, TV-watch or catch glimpses of the ocean just a block away. 4 stars for the bar with a wide range of cocktails, nice selection of beers and wine and solid bar food. 2-3 stars for the regular food. Fettucine alfredo was the best of the lot. Cheese raviolis are large but marina is bland. Chicken teriyaki dry but mashed potatoes were delicious and nicely-flavored. It was served with carrots and broccoli which were nicely steamed. Worst of all were the fish tacos. First, my biggest complaint: the fish chunks were over-cooked, super-dry and tasteless. Then, they were served with shredded american cheese. Instead of a nice seasoned cabbage slaw, you were supposed to treat these tacos like the El Paso ones - stuff them with shredded lettuce and cheese. They did add a mango salsa but that was basically cut-up fruit e.g. not much of a salsa (which would have included chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro and lime). Prices are affordable for Kauai. There's off-street parking in the back of the building.

We had breakfast here on 10/25/13 We ate here 9 years ago on our last visit to Kauai and wanted to try it again. I was a little disappointed with my meal today. I had Kim's Scramble and it was lacking flavor and light on the egg content. My wife had the Macadamia Pancakes. The order was 3 very large and fluffy cakes. She enjoyed them. The dining space is open and airy with nice views but the place could be cleaner. The floor was slippery like it needed a good cleaning. Enter through the front stairs b/c it is nicer than the back entrance. The wait staff was efficient but not talkative or really ongoing. Something I got a custom to at almost everyplace we visited on Kauai was how friendly everybody is.

Food was great, and our waitress Maddisen was really nice, but we waited at least 40 minutes for our food. Also noticed other staff members were not as professional though, one girl was even wearing super tight and short spandex that seemed inappropriate. Would still recommend for food though!

Overall this place worked out fairly well for our party of 3...while 2 of us were satisfied with our meals & experience the 3rd in our party was not satisfied with their meal. This is a neat atmosphere where you can enjoy views from the 2nd story in an open air concept & the menu selections varied widely. Pros: Nice views Large menu to satisfy various taste buds Great wrap sandwiches Waffles fries were delicious Seemingly good happy hour (drink specials & unlimited taco bar) Cons: Cleanliness isn't high on their list of priorities (including the shared restroom on the lower level!) Birds are constantly flying in & out of the restaurant / landing on tables Waitstaff was decent but not great Certain menu items were not that fresh or flavorful Somewhat pricy compared to other local places with better food

By far the worst meal we've had on Kauai. Fish tacos tried to hide that they are cooked in a microwave by adding lots of red chili flakes, salsa uses pineapple cores, and rice obviously from a box. In addition to the sticky table and no offer of a discount on a returned plate of food there is no reason to go here.

I don't like to write bad reviews but this place was so awful I just had to warn others to stay away. . . The service is mediocre at best but the food and drinks are just terrible. I ordered the fish tacos, the menu stated that these were the best fish tacos on the island. These were the worst fish tacos I have ever had. I took a bite and couldn't even eat it. The rice that came with the tacos appeared to be from the day before, crusted over and just not good. Even the black beans were bad. The shredded cheese and chopped lettuce were the best items on that plate. Needless to say, I got sick from this food. My husband ordered the fried chicken special after the waitress talked about how delicious it was . . .it was just ok. The one drink we did order was icy and tasted more like a slushy than a real drink. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED . . . .STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. There are other places in the area to grab a bite that I'm sure won't make you sick.

Much better the second time. Went for happy hour - very happy we did (pun intended). Happy hour is a great deal $5.00 specials and $1.00 off all drinks, runs 3-7 longer than most on the island. Glad we returned!! Just a note - came back the second day for happy hour - apps went up $1.00 - just kind of odd and worth noting. But still had a drink, good service.

There is a stairway from street level to get to the restaurant, so if you have mobility issues, might not be for you. We got a table overlooking the main drag on Kapaa, but the seats were WET , we had to point it out to them and moved ourselves to another table. I guess customer service is sort of super laid back here on Kauai. The wait staff barely acknowledged us as we got to the floor, and pretty much will leave you alone until you're done with your food. I think the menu caters to mainland tastes and could do with a healthier style makeover. But the main clientele is really tourists & mainlanders, so... I got the seared ono with macadamia & papaya relish. It was a huge portion, served with heaps of mashed potatoes and steamed mixed vegetables. I think an option for fresh salad would be welcome. ( I don't know if that was an option though you can pick your sides). I can't even remember what the rest of the party got, it's that forgettable. The Kauai pie is gigantic , probably 2 pints of ice cream (coffee, chocolate, mocha, and macadamia nut?) over an Oreo cookie crust. It took all three of us three days to eat it all.

We should've turned around mid-flight when the stench of stale beer hit us in the face. We were quickly seated with a wonderful view, story goes downhill from here. Our waitress arrives table side (under the influence) takes our drink order(coffee). She returns within a few minutes and asks if we would like anything to drink (again), same order (still under the influence). She returns to take our breakfast order and ask if we would like anything to drink (again x2). There was an obvious issue because our waitress was taken off our table. The new waitress was sober but our coffee still hasn't arrived. Our original waitress is now walking aimlessly around the restaurant with a plate of food and no clue who was hungry, she eventually set it on a vacant table and walked away. thought I was watching a live performance of Intervention. We walked out.... I will only laugh as I drive by, I will never climb those stairs again.

DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! Worst meal ever! Totally disgusting and very expensive. The Ono was over cooked and fishy, my daughters pasta was like mush, vegetables were mushy too. When we left the restaurant no one was around I think they were embarrassed!

Snickers says...4 paws up!!!! Best Kalua pig on the island!! Tropical salsa is to die for. Friendly and excellent service. We have visited here several times this week. The Mai Tai with the 151 will definitly have you chasing your tail!!! Very highly recommend.

Today was the third time in as many weeks that we have been to the Olympic Cafe. This is also the second time we have had Olivia as our waitress. This is the first time we have been here with our three kids (16/15/14). We had 3 different appetizers (wings, coconut shrimp, zucchini sticks) and all we done perfect. We also had 4 different main course and all were awesome. Best part, appetizers, main courses, drinks for kids and beer for my wife and I and total bill was only $111 (before tip). If you go, ask to sit in Olivia's section cause she's best waitress we've had on our whole vacation

A great place above the street, to sit back and enjoy the sights and foods of Kapa'a. Very reasonable for the quality of food and great location. I ordered the appetizer of ahi for an entree, more than enough! Their waffle fries are also worth it!! The service was very attentive and the atmosphere was very fun!

  • April S.

We ate here twice in our visit. Love the view of the mountains & watching all the activity down in the street. They have a wide variety of choices on the menu. The coconut shrimp served only at happy hour was the best we had on the island.

We ended up at Olympic Cafe thanks to a local kid working at the surf shop down the street. From the street you'd never even know this place was there. Walking up the stairs the place smelled DANK... I almost told my husband I'd rather pass while completing the climb to dining area. However I pressed on. I really liked the open air second floor seating with the Hawaiian breeze blowing through. It was lovely! By the way, the smell subsided after the staircase. I ordered the fish tacos. I thought they were yummy. The chunks of fish were hearty and the cheese on the tacos complimented the fish well. My hubby ordered the chicken strips and fries, the portion was huge and I didn't hear a single complaint come from his direction.

Great fish tacos! Took a while to take our order but food was served within 5 minutes! Sat at high-top near balcony. Neat little town.

Not kid friendly. We had our 10 mo old with us and we're not allowed to use a high chair at our booth. They said we could wait for a table 30 min even though there were plenty of open tables. Tropical tacos down the street is much better anyway

This is a great place. Wait lunch there yesterday and felt that the food was good for the price. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. We will be going back there

Located in Old Kapaa Town. There are some old cool black and white pictures on the wall at the entrance after stairs. There are some booth tables looking down the street. It could be too sunny and hot for lunch. Caesar salad tasted ok but the lettuce ends were almost all colored, probably a few days old = 1 star. Lemonade, nothing unique, just normal = 3 stars Fish Tacos were ok = 3 stars Service: 4 out of 3 gals seemed friendly. Bathroom is outside from the back door downstairs. You need codes. Came here for lunch. Got seated quickly we didn't order cocktails or anything, just soda, and they came pretty quickly. Our waiter was the bartender, so it took her some time to make her way over to get our order. The food was great. We got the fish and chips and the ABC with fries. My wife's sandwich was huge and the fish and chips was enough to feed both of us. 4 huge chunks of fish and some heaping of fries. The smell of the bar kinda overwhelmed the restaurant and we got a little nervous the food wouldn't be to good, but the food was great. We needed a refill, and ended up walking our cups to the bar to get it taken care of. Over all the food we got, only two dishes out of the 75 they have on the menu for lunch, were great.

We had seen this place on a previous day and it looked busy, plus the open air looking down on street looked fun, so on another day we were looking for a breakfast place and decided to give it a try. Glad we did, servers were attentive and nice, food was delicious and they had a Bloody Mary bar (make your own)!! I love Bloody Mary's, so I was super glad we gave them a shot.

  • Ashley D.

The Tropical Salad was very good although I got it with the balsamic dressing. Atmosphere was nice with the open windows and a distant view of the beach. After all of the fried and unhealthy vacation food this was wonderful! Lots of fresh ingredients! We would come back!

  • Travis A.

Ate here a couple of times during our stay, both times for lunch. The food is average to slightly below average. Shrimp platter was standard breaded frozen shrimp. Burgers tasted vaguely burnt, like maybe the grill needed cleaned. Waffle fries were the same ones you can buy frozen at Costco. The fresh fish dishes were good, grilled banana was good. Large menu which is good if you have picky eaters.

Their breakfast was good, lunch was bad. I ordered a hamburger: the buns were moldy and the patty smelled and tasted like garbage. It wasn't the best service either. I recommend going there for breakfast but not for lunch. Mostly all they have for lunch are sandwiches and hamburgers. The employees weren't the friendliest.

    (2)
  • Dan W.

Just plain ol' good food. Everything from fresh salads, sandwiches and wraps, to burgers, and ribs. Full bar and decent beer and wine selection. If you're in Kapaa you owe it to yourself to stop by for a bite.

Olympic Cafe has a great second story location. Up the stairs you go and you've got plenty of choice for seating beside the open windows... (are there even any windows? There might not be, just open wall!). Lots of choice in wraps, burgers, burritos, salads, seafood & chips and sandwiches... and especially an impressive selection of grilled cheese. 8 different kinds in all! I opted for the avocado brie with sundried tomatoes. Also served with my choice of chips, papaya, melon or homemade coleslaw. I had the papaya... ya know, to keep that grilled cheese healthy, and my friends enjoyed the chips with their meals. They're the criss cross kind - and there were plenty of them! Lunch prices are in the $10-$20 range while dinner prices more in the $15-$25 range. The washroom situation is a little weird. I think they share it with the rest of the building? It's down the stairs and out back. But you need a code to get in through the door. No website for these guys that I could find... but they do have photos of their menu up on their Facebook page if you really want to have a look online... or it's posted right outside before you even walk up all those stairs!

This place seems to be 'hit or miss.' The first time, we enjoyed our sandwiches and friendly service. The second time, we were ignored for about 15 minutes, it took 5 more to get our water, and our waitress disappeared quite often. It did not appear to be busy at all, so there was no reason for the negligent service. The quesadilla was large, but it was soggy and it looked like the sour cream had either curdled or been replaced by cottage cheese. The rice tasted like it was leftover from previous days. The burger was small and bland. We won't be returning for a third time.

  • Reyz A.

Standard pub grub. The windows are facing the wrong way...away from the beach and looking down from the 2nd floor so you can glare down at the road and the local stores across the street. Service was a bit rushed. I had the blackened fish of the day, and yesterday was Ahi, and I had it at medium to well. The dish was OK. The fish tasted fresh and came along with gravy, broccoli and some carrots. It felt like I was having Thanksgiving meal of fish. Along with a pina colada, it was an enjoyable meal. If I were a local, I would probably hang out at the long bar area that seem central to this restaurant.

This place was pretty great! We ate here on the way from Poipu beach to Hanalei Bay. The coffee was lacking and the mimosas didn't give me a buzz or anything, but the avocado omelet was delicious! And we got to sit by the windows and watch morning traffic and birds. ha My husband liked his quesadilla, too. The fruit servings are pretty generous as well. Good service.

Great place to eat!! Amazing food! We heard about this little place through a friend. We were excited because you can get an umbrella drink here too. We ordered the kaluah pork burrito. Dont pass that one up. Soooo yummy. Portions are huge. Great service too. Oh yeah and there is another must... You must eat their Hula pie for dessert. You won't be disappointed.

We went for dinner and were amazed at the number of meals offered. Lunch is served all day and night so chose the Veggie wrap and "the Olympian". Both were delicious and fulfilling. Service was great. Wonderful views of the mountains and ocean from the upstairs location. We're going to give breakfast a try

I give it a 2 on food, a 4 on location, hence the 3 rating. The wait staff were friendly. My waffle-fries arrived barely warm and they were replaced without question, so that's a plus. But overall, the food was nothing great to write home about - barely average. Plus they were out of the beers on the menu that I asked for. A disappointment. What was really cool was the location. You are right on the main intersection of old Kapa'a, up on the second floor. Everything is open air with great views to the street below for excellent Kapa'a laid back people watching. I recommend the booths right along the outer edge for the best experience. Watch out for two things.... examine the booth bench seat before you slide on in - a couple are ripped badly and stuck back together hodge podge with duct tape and exposed vinyl edges and stuffing. Not much fun to slide across with your newly suntanned bare thighs. Also watch out for the birds. They are quite bold and will fly right to your table and steal your food off your plate! Don't leave your plate unguarded! There are signs warning you of this. I consider this part of the funky ambiance though, so I didn't take off rating points for the birds! Bottom line, if it wasn't for the laid back people-watching ambiance I wouldn't go back. With the ambiance, it's an OK stop.

Beware of Scombroid poisoning. This place was recommended by a local. I really wanted to like it. They stop serving breakfast promptly at noon to my dismay, so I ordered the fish taco plate. The fish had a tangy taste which I found odd. I ate one of the two tacos. Twenty minutes later I had a horrible headache and my face, neck, and chest felt as if they were on fire. A tingly tongue, itchy neck, palpitations, and breathing trouble came next. Luckily I had Benedryl on me, so I took two. In about an hour I felt better. The headache eventually went away later in the evening. I spoke with management. They had never heard of Scombroid poisoning. Um, okay. You need read up on it and prevent it. All I was offered was an apology. Not going back.

Read that as 3.51. Our friend's brother John had raved in an email this morning about the hamburgers at the Olympic Cafe as being among the world's best. Inspired by his praise, after the farmers' market we drove north to Kapa'a. Alan and I had both envisioned it in the wrong place, a mile or two up the road on the other side. Fortunately Alan spotted it before we drove past. There was parking available in front and to my delight it was right upstairs from Kela's Glass, one of my favorite places on the island, so I knew where I'd be going after lunch. The stairs up to the restaurant are manageable for those w/ mild mobility issues. The side of the restaurant overlooking the street has no glass in the windows and little birds fly in and out, landing on chair backs and empty tables. A decorated Christmas tree stands in the middle of the restaurant and ornaments hang on filament from the ceiling beams, moving gently in the breeze created by the ceiling fans. We sat at a 4 top table and were given menus. There are several types of hamburgers, wraps, fish and chips, shrimp and chips, calamari and chips. It's a varied menu. I decided on a cheese burger and requested it rare. It comes w/ waffle fries or a variety of other choices. The waitress asked if I would like mustard or mayonnaise on the side, which I appreciated. Alan ordered a chicken curry wrap w/ coleslaw as a side since I would share my fries. I had iced tea and he had water. The iced tea looked a little cloudy, suggesting it hadn't been made fresh today, but it didn't have that nasty chemical taste. When my cheeseburger arrived I put mustard and catsup on it, along w/the tomato, lettuce and sliced onion that came alongside. When I cut it in half I was dismayed to see it had been cooked medium. I didn't send it back, figuring if they couldn't cook it right the first time they wouldn't the second time either, even if our server had checked back w/ us, which she didn't. It was very tasty. The meat was of very good quality, 90% lean. It may be locally grown, but I forget and couldn't find an online menu to refresh my memory. It was good enough that it deserved better treatment than to be cooked too long. Alan's wrap was huge, though the bulk was largely lettuce, and the chicken curry was very tasty. I didn't taste his coleslaw because I could see celery seeds in it. The waffle fries were tasty and were identical to the ones at Duke's Barefoot Bar. Interestingly, tonight in an email exchange w/ John, he sent me a couple of photos of his California Burger, w/ the comment that it would be cooked rare if I wanted it that way, so evidently one of the cooks can do a rare burger. Just not the one we had today.

WOW!!! Possibly the best fish and chips we ve had outside Ireland. Fresh Ono in a beer batter with malt vinegar. Scrumptious. Views out both sides of second story restaurant...mountains and ocean. Beautiful. Jennifer, our server, was delightful and full of information and recommendations. Would come back again and again.

Really good food, and just missed the omelette specials. The place was really good for people watching, but when it gets windy, you'll want to sit a bit more inside the cafe. I had the spicy thai wrap, and 1/2 was all I could eat. If you are Kapa'a for any length of time, this is one of the must places to go.

One of the worst places I've ever been to. You can never trust a place that has Christmas lights as part of their decor! Food: Bland and no seasoning. A little salt and pepper will go a long way. Smell: The smell of stale beer overtook to entire place. Cleanliness: Dirty! Sticky floors and tables...I just hope they clean the soda nozzle often. They really need to deep clean this place. Service: Staff was friendly. However, they spent time congregating in one spot to chat, or were on their phones texting or something. I saw a lot of good reviews, but mostly due to people being in a good Hawaiian mood. Robert Irvine would have a heart attack if he came to this place!

This is one of my favorite places to go too! The atmosphere is great! Loved the fact you can sit next to the window and watch the cars and streets pass by! The food is great. Its not amazing, but its great! My favorite dish to get is the ahi nori wrap! It never disappoints me! The pies are amazing! The size, flavors is worth it! Even with 4 people we couldnt eat it! The only problems I had is the way how the bathrooms are. I think there shouldnt be a code for a bathroom, I think the bathrooms should be in the restaurant. But other than this place is wonderful!

I went here twice on my last adventure in Kauai. Once when I was driving from Poipu to Hanalei and the second time when driving from Hanalei to Poipu. Both times, my girlfriend and I stopped here for breakfast. The food is standard breakfast food - nothing outstanding but nothing bad either. They do have a make your own bloody mary bar - which will be cool if you want to drink in the morning. Besides that, they have an open balcony, which is nice. It does have a tendancy to get a bit chilly though so bring a hoodie in the morning.

While my BF ordered the deep fried seafood platter of goodness, I tried to remain marginally healthy. So I opted for the veggie wrap. I then spent the rest of my meal pitifully staring at his deep fried fish, shrimps, and calamari wondering why did I go with the "healthy" option. (Note: It's not very healthy). The veggie wrap is basically a bit of lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, and a whole lot of salad dressing in a spinach wrap. It was basically salad dressing wrapped in a tortilla. I barely got through half before he started giving me fish from his plate, because if you're going to throw it all away on salad dressing, might as well get some meat in there. Great seafood, but terrible veggie wrap.

Everyone says mahi tacos, so we got 'em. And kalua pig plate, and beers and a lava flow. Yelpers didn't disappoint. Everything was enjoyable. Nice spoot in "downtown" Kapaa to soak up the local vibe and feel the breeze.

We almost turned around and left when we originally entered up the stairs, due to the nasty musty, moldy smell (that didn't go away even after entering the restaurant). Thank goodness there was a table open by the window, or we could not have eaten there. The Kalua pork quesadilla was really tasty. The avocado, brie, & sundried tomato on sourdough appetizer? Meh. This may be a fun place to be at night, watching people walk by. During rush hour, not so much. Service was good. I'd go back for the Kalua pork quesadilla and to try the hula pie or Kauai pie, but not if I can't sit by the window.

Ate here last night and wish I had read the reviews about moldy buns and spoiled food. Got a confirmed case of Scombroid Poisoning from the Ahi burrito I ate. Called both poison control and the health department so they're aware-- but do yourself a favor and do not eat here.

So, in all honesty I really expected at least a fair meal since I heard nothing but rave reviews about this place. Ordered fish and chips, Tropical Salad and a draft beer with tip it was just shy of $40. Fish was extremely overcooked (super, super dry on the inside) and had some sort of seasoning that just didn't suit my tastes in the batter. Tropical Salad was decent but expect your chicken to be cold and the dressing to have no taste. Asked for dressing on the side could have been water. HUGE portions but I would rather have half the amount and have the food be good. :0( On the good side the service was excellent and the beer was beer so if you are going there for drinks only go for it!

My husband and I have been here twice and have been happy with the overall experience both times. Food was good and the open air breeze is nice. We also like that it isn't a tourist trap as a lot of locals also eat here. Next time we are in Kauai we will be back to Olympic Cafe.

We have been here twice while on Kauai, and got the exact same meal both times for comparison purposes - that and we just really like it the first time around. The menu is a bit excessive which it makes it kind of hard to decide on what you want. Also, we overheard a waitress mentioning some appetizers that weren't on the menu, so be sure to ask about that. I got the Ahi Burrito ($12). This thing is massive! It comes with some tropical relish on it (like a spicy mix of fruits and hot sauce) and guacamole; although the second time it just had a piece of avocado instead. My wife got the pork quesadilla ($15) which comes with rice and beans and relish. This was also pretty big, but should be served with BBQ sauce (or have it cooked in). Just ask for it on the side. Based on our first go around, I would have given this place 4 stars, but after a second visit it got demoted. The service can be pretty random as a lot of tourists fill the seats nightly. The food is good for the price (could be better, but we can't complain). Don't worry if you are coming from the beach; they don't seem to mind unless you are tracking junk all over the floor. The entrance and parking lot are on the back side of the restaurant, and you will have to climb a flight of stairs to get there. I recommend you try it out.

My partner in dine and I stopped by after a day of exploring the island on a weeknight. The coconut shrimp and nachos were very good and our POGs were delicious. We may have gotten a deal since we were here during happy hour. Service was good. The place was busy yet, there was plenty of seating available. We would not mind returning for the coconut shrimp and POGs if we are in Kapa'a again during happy hour. 4 stars.

Went there twice on a our trip recently. The first time we were walking and were really hungry because it was dinner time at home haha. We stopped at just the right time too because it was happy hour. Not only are drinks $1 off but if you order 2 drinks you have access to the unlimited taco bar for FREE! What could be better. We did end up ordering food. I was debating between the blackened ahi sandwich or the kalua pork quesadilla and per the servers advice chose the sandwich which was sooo good! Very glad I ordered it. Went back a few days later for lunch and got the kalua pork quesadilla, it wasnt bad but it wasnt great either. Service was decent both days, no major complaints.

A great place to drink and people-watch. They have Pacifico on draft which can be a nice change of pace from all the uber-hoppy IPAs that you may have been asked to drink in the name of trying the local brews. Service was prompt and friendly and the appetizers were decent. Sit over near the bar by the window so as to avoid the screaming kids that some folks tote around with them. Bathroom is downstairs outside with an access code which is a bit of an inconvenience after a few brews.

Beware of the tourist trap! Fish tacos are not the islands best :( Fish couldn't have been more rubbery and over-cooked; plus the flavor wasn't there. I gave the server a chance to correct the issue... They were not interested

First night on Kauai and we walked down to Olympic cafe for a quick meal. The atmosphere was fun and we had a great table overlooking the bustling streets alive for first Saturdays. I ordered a Brie, avocado and sun dried tomato grilles sandwich, served with sliced fresh papaya. Yum! It was happy hour so a top shelf Mai tai was the same price as the house. Strong and delicious! Reasonably priced for the town we were in.

This is a good place to grab a drink and feel the light breeze coming through the open windows. I made a mistake and ordered a tuna salad. I automatically assumed tuna would be sashimi on a salad, but indeed I was not. I initially felt like a cat eating the tuna salad, but it wasn't all that bad. I would not recommend it though. Full bar and good ambience.

A group of eight decided to try this place out for dinner. They got us in immediately witch was good. Opening the menu was a little scary seeing that there were so many items to choose from. At the bottom of the menu it states that large parties could not do separate checks. We decided to ask the server if they could make an exception. She said that she couldn't make that decision and that she needed to get a manager. This smug man walks out of the office (why is he not on the floor on a Friday night baffles me) and over to our table. We mentioned to him that we would most likely go somewhere else if we couldn't separate the check. He said that there is nothing he could do and was fine to let us leave. We got up and went down the street to a great Mexican joint down the street and spent our $400 there instead. I have been in the restaurant industry 18 years now and a GM for 13. If my managers decided to let business walk out the door because of 4 separate checks I would no longer keep them employed. I guess business is SO good for the Olympic cafe that they just don't care! Good luck.

My wife Gena and I stopped here for a quick lunch. I had the chicken avocado club, she had the fish tacos. Service was satisfactory, food was bad. The chicken was super chewy and rubbery, and was probably frozen. The fish tacos were bad. Fish was overcooked, and tasted like it had been cooked on an uncleaned griddle. Beans were bland and probably from a can. Rice tasted old and had very little flavor. We should have known better. A restaurant with a menu this big (50+ items) can't possibly take great care in making each dish well.

After a long hike to Hanakapi'ai Falls on a Sunday, we didn't arrive back at our hotel until 7:30. Knowing things closed late, we quickly showered and got back out into the car looking for dinner. Olypmic Cafe was still open. They had an extensive menu but we were able to get our order in before the kitchen closed. Got the furikake ahi appetizer, Island burger (bbq sauce and pineapple) and California (bacon and avocado) burger. The furikake ahi was delightful! Perfectly seared, furikake made for a nice crust and the wasabi dipping sauce was a great touch. The burgers were great in portions and came with yummy criss cut fries. So yum! The Kauai 5-0 was a nice drink to end the day with, as well as the Longboard. After inhaling our food, we were in quite the food coma. Service was great, even though we were ordering so close to closing.

First off, the three orders we had were all very filling. 3 ladies w/ big appetites, 3 plates, 3 full bellies. (2 stars) Indoor without windows gives an awesome outdoors feel where you can see the action in the ocean & on the street (another star). The food: Chicken taco salad - had corn, black beans, avacado, lettuce, tomatoes w/ a nice hard shell. It was filling but bland for me. Chicken and fish tacos - filling but too bland for me. Fish & chips - can never go wrong with this order. There is nothing unique about the taste, but it is good. This was my favorite.

Stopped by Olympic 4 out of my 7 vaca days. First the +'s: Great: happy hour, view, food - great bfasts, and ... some of staff. Bad/ugly ... One staff member and service standards. So I am a visitor to the islands, so I kinda expect to have to wait my turn when in a local places ... But to wait 15 minutes sitting at the bar for a beer??? Kai, for some reason had it in for me. ... after the first nite with her long wait and a 20% tip thinking it was a bad nite, I tried again the next day .... 16 minute wait this time with her having a 5 minute chat with a coworker ... i am a please/thank u kinda guy so not sure were the karma fell apart. If I were the owner u may want to do a poll of your customers on your help ... I observed lots of folks getting same treatment. Now onto the great ... The first two visits we were served by the blond gal, Lisa I think, who was from Ireland. Great service, made u feel welcome, and always acknowledged u even when she was super busy. So I recommend the Olympic, but have lots of patience depending on who is working ....

Very weird service. Probably would have considered it rude if we weren't in such a wonderful mood being in Kauai Fish tacos were average. Came with very small portion of salsa and charged 75c for more?!

I start off by saying you will be better off by going to a gas station to receive better service. The restaurant is not well organized and the waitress at our table had no idea what she was doing and could obviously not handle her section. We were seated int he corner (close to the storage area) and the waitress did not come by to get our drink order for 15 (I actually timed it after 5 mins). We would have left but my husband insisted to give this one another chance :( Well, the next time we saw her was when she gave us our bill because we flagged down other servers to place our food order and to ask for the beer my husband ordered. The food was ok but the service just made the experience horrible.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A little service goes a long way. We stopped here twice while we were strolling around Kapaa and thought that it would give us a nice view and the menu looked reasonable. Both those things were correct, what we weren't prepared for was the guy that was high on something that ended up being our server. We sat down, got a menu and then just sat....and waited...while tons of waitresses, hostesses even a manager (I would assume, since it was a person bringing out food in regular street clothes??) just walked passed us. We open our menu's chose what we want, closed them...opened back up and then closed. Still nothing. Finally someone took our drink order...and then our beers just sat at the bar while our waiter walked around the place with his hands in his pockets talking to other servers and staff. Finally our drinks came and food soon after. The atmosphere, beer, food and view are all awesome. Service...poor. We just thought it was the server we had...but on our second try at the place (since we were staying in Kapaa and needed a close place to eat - with limited options)...the serve was nicer, more attentive, but had too many tables, our appetizer never came and when we needed anything...everyone was just running around like chickens with their head cut off. Food and atmosphere I would give 4 stars - service is lucky at a 2.

Visited the Olympic Cafe during several visits to Kauai. It's a good laid back bar to just relax and enjoy the neighbor island ambience. The food is nothing to write home about, but huge portions for a good price. I usually took a doggy bag back to the hotel whenever I got an entree. Happy hour is a good deal- $1 off beers and $5 pupus. Fridays are complimentary chips & tacos for 2 drinks- great deal! Always enjoyable to stop by.

Went for happy hour as it looked like a cool place. The drinks were really watered down, not enjoyable at all and by far the worst I've had on the island. The food was okay, nothing special. The bathroom is outside and very sketchy/dirty.

The waitress was very friendly and knew the menu. The price are fine for the amount of food they give you. We order their calamari for an appetizer and wow did they give us a lot. Sad thing was that it was obviously frozen for a long time. I thought they would have fresh seafood, but I was wrong. The calamari was chewy and soggy. I ordered their turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich and it was very tasty, with lots of meat. Just remember to ask for ketchup, mustard and mayo or it might be a little dry. My wife ordered their ahi fish sandwich and she complained about not enough flavor. I did not try it, but she says to have had better. It's a cute place with great staff and a great view. The food is alright, mostly because they give you so much. Good place for a lunch or brunch.

Do NOT eat here!!! We drove by Olympic a number of times and saw that it was pretty popular, plus we received a high recommendation for their burgers, so we decided to eat here. Bad idea. The service was extremely slow (it wasn't even crowded when we went), our food was brought out at separate times, and my water was never refilled. We ordered burgers because of the recommendation of them being the best on the island. Gross. My husband ordered his cooked Medium and his first bite tasted like charcoal. Then he found a hair in his burger. Seriously. My burger looked great but tasted less than average. If this place really has the best burgers on the island, then don't eat burgers in Kauai! Over all, horrible experience.

My husband and I came to the Olympic café and wanted to see if the reviews were correct... They are... The food is really good and the view was nice. He had the Kalua pig and eggs and I had the Ahi and eggs. These are a must try on the menu. We were even able to enjoy it despite the annoying family next to us.

Crazy size portions. Had breakfast here today. Great service, the waitress let us know the portions were pretty big so you could easily share meals. Wife and I had our daughter and she really wanted Chocolate Chip pancakes. Huge Ass Stack and tasty. We also ordered an Omelette and side of bacon. That was plenty for the three of us. Will eat at the Olympic Cafe again.

Olympic Cafe felt like it was in Olympic Decay. Very touristy no cultural flavor. Run down moldy smell. No restroom inside. There is a key code to enter the building bathrooms downstairs. Being located above the traffic exhaust makes sitting next to the windows unappetizing.

Had incredible food here! Get the tuna melt. Also reallllly loved the Hawaiian bread french toast (Drizzle coconut syrup on it). What the place lacks in ambience, it makes up for in yumminess. Staff was very nice too :)

I actually enjoyed Olympic Cafe - it doesn't feel like a "local" restaurant and it isn't. It's for the Haolies, for sure! But that's not a bad thing. The food was a little bit on the generic side, BUT tasty - and it has a BAR. A REAL bar. With mixed drinks, beer, etc. Decent food with alcohol? Nice. Overall, worth a visit - go up the stairs and try sitting at the bar - it opens up and you can see beautiful Kauai! (I'm going back, that's for sure!)

Here is another place that somehow we hit Happy Hour, which in turn makes me happy. We parked on the street and like the typical tourist were having trouble finding the entrance without a gps. By the way there are two entrances, one on the street at the very end of the building, in front of the ABC store and one in the back where you can park and walk up the steps. If you get the option, park in the back because they will send you to that hostess stand for a table anyway. The crowd was light and the first thing they asked was if we wanted a table at the front facing the street. We said yes and they promptly sat us in a booth. We were immediately greeted with a menu that I wouldn't want to defend in a dissertation. The waitress came by in just a few minutes and proceeded to tell us that it was Happy Hour and explained the drink and app specials. We decided on the coconut shrimp app and a couple of Kona brews for drinks. She came back with the drinks and helped us with our dinner selections. I just ordered a normal burger and fries but my wife wanted the burrito. The waitress described the meat in the burrito as "carne" style and suggested the pork burrito, which I can not remember the name of, because the pork was a shredded style. I would like to say that throughout the meal our service was a 6 star. Yes, sometimes another person brought us the food, condiments, extra napkins, etc., but if you have been to a restaurant with bigger wait staffs or a cruise this is the way that it is. We had no mistakes and this made things get to the table faster. Now on to the food. The coconut shrimp were excellent and catching them on Happy Hour made them taste even better. The only thing that I have to knock on them is the dipping sauce. The sauce reminded me of a ranch dressing with chili powder and paprika in it. I know that this it their take on it but I was expecting some kind of pineapple, mango, blah, blah, blah, sweet dip. The shrimp were large, not huge, and expertly breaded with coconut. They had a great taste and did not need the dipping sauce but I am in Hawaii and expect something fruit based with every dish. Next, My plain burger and fries were what they were. My burger was a chargrilled burger, no cheese, LTO, and a side of mayo, with waffle fries. If you order this just remember it is going to taste like it came off of the back yard charcoal grill, which I like. I like the toppings, mayo, and a little A1 to make it taste like a steak burger. This way you get the char taste, creamy, and tangy along with the veggies. The waffle fries were cooked perfectly and you won't eat all of them unless you order this at the beginning of Happy Hour and stay until the end. The wife's "pork" burrito. Ok, first let me give you the bad. The meat inside had a lot of fat meat to it. Imagine if you took a prime rib or a real fatty ribeye and shredded it chunky but with pork. But, the rest of the burrito was excellent except that she had to watch every bite. It was as big as a 3 year old's leg and was stuffed full of meat and black beans along with guacamole, sour cream, and an excellent fruit salsa. I don't know if it was because the crowd was down or if they were just on tonight but everything worked for us. Our glasses were never empty, the food arrived correctly, everyone that either brought us food, took our plates, or just walked by was nice. The meat in the wife's burrito and the dipping sauce is the only thing that knocked off a star for me. We have one more night in Kauai and this could be our final eating place on the island.

My first impression wasn't stellar. Wait staff seemed annoyed to serve us. We came early for breakfast, not many people in here. Food was below average. I hear they have a good happy hour... but I wouldn't go back.

Wife and I stopped by the Olympic Cafe for lunch after a long morning at the beach, followed up by some hiking to nearby waterfalls. Needless to say, we were famished looking forward to a good lunch. While driving, we spotted the Cafe and thought it looked great...you can see the balcony style seating from the road. Upon walking in, we looked around and weren't sure if we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. With smiling faces, we politely asked the two young ladies near the bar if we should seat ourselves. They were less than friendly or polite with their response, "....sure, seat yourself" while they rolled their eyes. We let it go and took a nice booth near the balcony overlooking the street. Our digital camera was low on battery power, so I decided to ask if it was ok to recharge the battery while we ate. I was told they didn't have an outlet. Thinking they may have mistaken my charger as needing a special outlet, I told them it just takes a normal outlet same as a cell phone. I was quickly informed, "...I know, and you can't use our outlet to charge your battery." I had already ordered $45 in food and drink for lunch and was very surprised to be treated with such a lack of hospitality. My wife is a vegetarian and had ordered a burrito without meat. After being rudely denied an opportunity to recharge our camera battery, the waitress came back and told my wife she couldn't have the burrito because the rice was prepared with a chicken broth. My wife nicely told the the waitress she was ok with broth, she just prefers not to eat meat for personal reasons. The waitress made a smirk and said, "...so your not a true vegetarian, your a flexitarian", and walked away. The Olympic Cafe was not busy at the time of our lunch visit. The food was ok....a little on the bland side. We passed by the Olympic Cafe a few more times while we were looking for places to try and chuckled each time...my wife would laugh and say, heck no!

This place looked like a tourist trap from a distance, but we decided to just stop in for a few beers since they had an upstairs open patio that was quite inviting on a hot day. We ended up ordering a seared ahi furikake appetizer with wasabi dipping sauce that was so delicious that we almost ordered a second one. I highly recommend it!

Good food and even better people watching. The mix of locals and tourists kept me entertained as well waited for our food. We couldn't get a table that looked out to the street but that was okay....it was just a street. I had the bbq chicken quesadilla and my husband had the chicken teriyaki and mashed potatoes. We were satisfied with our meals. Our waitress could have been a bit friendlier but she did a fine job.

Really great breakfast and lunch! Didn't get to try dinner. The service was great and didn't have to wait long for the food. The portions were enormous! Wasn't bad for a fish platter, however everything is well fried. Can see the ocean out the back or sit over the road and people watch. We really enjoyed this place.

This was a good place to stop for dinner on the way home from a long day on the beach. We were tired and needed a quick meal and drink, and it was very pleasant. We had fish and chips and a burger, and the staff was generally friendly. Get a booth or table by the road, and you'll feel the vibe of the town from outside. The atmosphere at that table outdid the food.

We loved this place. Lots of fun, open air, ocean view, casual. The kind of place where you actually talk to people at nearby tables. The Kauai pie (mud pie anywhere else) was huge and awesome. I believe we received an ovation on completing it.

Just happened upon this place looking for a more chill place to eat and this place was perfect! Great open air feel and view on both sides. Got their pot stickers for happy, which were some of the best I've ever had and a great price at happy hour for just $4.99. My Mom and split the Cobb salad, with awesome lime-cilantro dressing and it was huge! The carrot cake dessert just topped off the meal, moist and yummy. The service was great too! Will definitely be back.

The front desk at our hotel recommended this place as a casual place to relax and eat a nice lunch. He was right! The atmosphere is fun and relaxed. The second story location makes it fun to sit and watch the traffic below. I ordered an iced tea which came in a french press and I poured it over ice. Delish! The wraps we ordered were tasty and offering a side of fresh fruit or papaya was great! The salads were huge! We wanted to go back again, but never had a chance.

My Hubs and I stopped by twice, once for breakfast and once for cocktails. We loved it! Everyone was happy and upbeat. Totally made us feel comfortable and kept us in our vacationing spirits. The location and views are great but the service could use some help. Went there for a drink with my wife last night and was greeted but that was the most contact we got from the service. After waiting for a while I had to go order a our drinks at the bar. We had a chocolate cake dessert that was huge and was good but again the service just is not there.

It was my birthday and I went there for the kauai mud pie, one of my favorite things and they said sorry were closed. It was 10:02 and they closed at 10:00. Thats all I was looking foward to for the whole day. The overall appearance of the place is really dirty. The stairs and tables are just super sticky. The food isn't that great. All I like is their mud pie. It is my favorite thing! I would go there more often if it wasn't so dirty. Also the outfits that the waitors and waitress have to wear are really bad. I feel so badly for them.

If you go here, the kalua pig anything is remarkable. I tried the quesidillas, and later the sandwich, and that's some savory pig. Full of flavor and huge portions. They also make a very tasty pina colada. After a few of those, you're feeling just fine. The servers are fun and conversational, and the view overlooking Kapaa Town is wonderful. It's just a cool little casual dive bar feel where you can tell that they have their "regulars", but treat new people really well. Like I said, get the Kalua pig anything. It's awesome.

I ordered the fish and chips made with Wahoo aka ono in hawaii. One of the best fried fishes I have ever had. The batter was crispy and the fish was moist and not over dry. I also enjoyed the malt vinegar that they use for the fish.

Great Happy Hour & Taco Friday's Olympic Cafe is our favorite Happy Hour Bar. They do serve B,L,D and the food has always been good, but we mostly go for beer or two at Happy Hour. It's all open air on the 2nd floor with a peak of ocean on one side and Kapa'a town with mountains in the background. You can't the beat the prices - $2.50 for Bud draft or $3.75 for 16 oz aluminum bottle. Friday night is make your own tacos night - all you can eat - two drink minimum. Dinner and beers for two for $13.00 (pre-tip)! My hubby enjoys watching the waitresses too - they wear short-shorts!

It's a bar! With bar food. Thankfully, it's tasty bar food! We were looking for a place to eat something quick and not hugely filling. We used Yelp to help! I would not even say the food was small; everyone's meal came large. I ordered their appetizer fruit plate and it was huge, but every piece of fruit on there was flavorful and deliciously juicy (pineapples, honeydew, papya, bananas...). I could not eat it alone. My best friend and her husband got a wrap that they shared. They said that the green tortilla was pretty yummy but the wrap's contents were over-soaked in ranch and could use a little less. And then there were waffle fries! Mmmm yummy. Everyone was stealing the waffle fries from my fiancé. It was a nice time and the food was pretty good. If I were ever on this island again, I'd go back here for sure.

Let's just say that even though this restaurant has issues (service and quality of food), I can't get beyond the lack of cleanliness. I can overlook some grunge, but I was in the restroom with a waitress that flushed the toilet, came out of the stall, turned on the water, splashed the water on her fingers, turned the water off, fixed her hair, grabbed a paper towel, and walked out to continue her shift. YEP, she didn't even pretend to use soap. Proper hand washing is such a basic way to prevent illness, and REQUIRED by law for the restaurant staff. I think the staff suffers from a lack of training in the basics of working in food service. I won't be eating here again.

I have always loved this restaurant space going back to the times when it was Jimmy Z's. The open air counter seating overlooking the street is my favorite place to be while having my early morning breakfast. Watching the hustle of people going to work while I lounge above them with my cup of joe is a small pleasure of mine while on vacation. Luckily, Olympic Cafe has very good food to go with that coffee! The Amigas is one of my favorites, kind of a Hawaiian take on the Mexican chilaquiles. Other can't misses are the Kalua Pork and Eggs and the Carnitas and Eggs. When given a choice, have the papaya instead of the home fries. A much better choice. Don't forget to take advantage of the Friday happy hour when they have the free taco bar! It can easily be dinner for the night. Pair it with a ice cold Primo on draft and you have the start of a very good weekend.

Great atmosphere! I had "Kaua'i's best" fish tacos and they were definitely not "Kauai's best" and was definitely not worth $14. Very messy; you need to put your taco together on the plate. Taco shell was too small and I couldn't fit every ingredient in it. The burger however was nice tender and juicy (for a medium-well). Most items on the menu are above $10.

Had the avocado and brie sandwich. Strange combo but tasted delicious, although I wasn't a fan of the sun dried tomatoes also on the sandwich. I noticed this place while we were driving past it because I saw people sitting in the open air windows upstairs. We were in Kapaa to do some shopping, so I suggested to my husband that we give it a try. Knowing nothing about the place, we walked upstairs to a very large, open space with hardwood floors, open windows, a well-stocked bar, and football on TV. We got seated right away at one of the hightop tables next to the window. We perused the menu while we waited for the server and saw that their specialty was Mai Tai's, so I figured since it was my last day in Kauai I'd partake. It did take some time for someone to come by to see if we wanted to order drinks - in fact it was the hostess, who informed us the server was really busy and she didn't want to have us have to wait. Our drinks arrived and the server came and took our order, apologizing for making us wait. To be honest, we didn't care, because we certainly weren't in any hurry. I order the blackened ono sandwich, and my husband had the cheeseburger. Both were delicious, and the waffle fries were some of the best I've ever had. But the Mai Tai's were the winner. Delicious, fruity and full of island rum. I highly recommend you don't leave this place without one! We enjoyed The Olympic Cafe and would go back.

We had an excellent experience. Decided to order appetizers for lunch. There must have been 3/4 lb. of seared ahi. Well seasoned. The wasabi dipping sauce was dynamite. The bed of coleslaw was terrific. The calamari was plentiful & well prepared. Add a chicken quesadilla with large moist chucks of chicken breast. It was great. We decided to share a piece of carrot cake. It was huge & as good as any I've ever had with wonderful frosting & lots of walnuts. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was funky but it didn't pretend to be anything it wasn't. We took home 1/2 the carrot cake & 1/2 of the quesadilla!

A nice place for lunch. The open-air, upstairs dining room, with Sleeping Giant/street views on the west side of the room, and ocean/parking lot views on the east side. There's a large bar with big TV. The food is acceptable, not great. On a prior visit, my large Greek salad as very fresh and good. On my recent visit, the "blackened" ono sandwich was actually reddened. It was OK. Fries were crisp and tasty. Honey liked his club sandwich. The highlight of the meal was our chatty, interesting waitress with ocean-blue eyes.

Great breakfast! HUGE portions! Easily split. Fast friendly service. Especially liked that you are outside but under-roof. Fast friendly service. We didn't order them but the bloody mary's looked awesome going to the tables around us. Just don't make our mistake of walking in with starbucks. They don't take kindly and make you leave. Their coffee (once I finished my sb outside - bummer) was very good. We will be back.

Dinner was so good, portions much more than could fill you here. We had the Avocado & Brie Melt to start, Pina Coladas, and entrees: Ravioli & Marinara and Pesto Shrimp & Pinenuts. The ravioli had a spicy kick to it and the shrimp dish was so creamy and rich with basil, just the way we like them. We sat in a booth overlooking the pleasant Kuhio Highway. Service was great. We've since visited for Breakfast (huge bowl of oatmeal with bananas and brown sugar) and Lunch (Avocado-Brie-Sundried Tomato grilled sandwich and California Burger). Another dinner we had the Tomato & Garlic Shrimp Pasta and the Spinach & Mushroom Quesadillas. Everything has been delicious, fresh, and service quick and friendly.

Great place to go out if you're in the mood for a Hawaiian styled burger joint. I always have to get the waffle fries when I'm there... that's some fried goodness right there. Their happy hour is pretty good, considering happy hour isn't super popular on the island. The wings and the zucchini sticks are the way to go- especially when they have Wailua Wheat on Tap. The burgers and wraps are always a favorite, especially the thai chicken wrap and the Western BBQ burger. Very fair prices for the island and big portions!

Shame on us for failing to look up when walking through downtown Kapa'a -- we would have noticed the faces of happy patrons at this 2nd-floor restaurant. Open, airy, staffed with easygoing folks who know what they're doing, it's a comfy mix of haole expectations and kama'aine ease. Good food, good service, we only wish we'd asked a local where we should eat just a few days sooner...

not sure how this place gets more than 2 stars - maybe for it's location and lack of options in Kapaa. Hubby and I were staying in Princeville and weather was blah, so we drove towards Kapaa for some shopping. We got hungry and saw the high stars on Yelp, so we stopped in for lunch. Big mistake. Sure the open window seating is fine, but the view is just of the streets. Not as glamorous as the reviews noted. I got the fish tacos and they were average. Nothing special about them - positive thing is that it was abundant but didn't have any flavor at all. Hubby got a cheeseburger and it wasn't anything special. Service was blah, and wish we would've stopped at the Little Greek food truck instead.

OK...went back for lunch and realized i was a bit too generous on my breakfast review. pork sandwich was okay. son got a burger with moldy bun. asked for a new one and they brought another moldy one(even though it was obvious there was mold). I get it that things get moldy very easy here, but on the 2nd try the server should have paid extra care to open her eyes before giving the replacement. Then he bit into the burger and said it tasted funny. I thought it was him overthinking things because of the moldy start. I took a bite of the meat and it tasted weird. Then i smelled the meat and it was all wrong. At this point just wanted to finish my beers with friends and make kids happy. Gave them some money and told them to go downstairs to HeeFat and get a shaved ice(best around). They brought it up and the staff refused to let them eat it because of the "no outside food rule" After all of the bad food they didnt bend to make up for it. BS. Screw them

Really good 1/2lb burgers and fries! Meal came out hot and made to order. Would definitely go again. Good pub ambiance and service.

Average food and service - go there if you are totally out of options. Service is lackluster and servers are bored and uninterested. I asked for bacon as an add on for my breakfast meal and that didn't happen, no biggie as we weren't charged for it but still. We also ate lunch here, fish and chips was good, well the fish anyway, the chips/fries are straight out of a bag, well maybe not but they are a round fancy cut and seasoned. Just a strange option imho. The fish was amazing, having had bad fish and chips at 90% of places across the USA this was a nice change.

olympic cafe sits above the main drag that runs through old kapa'a town, which is kuhio highway. if you can get a table/booth near the window, it's a cool view while you're dining. they have a really awesome breakfast menu with quite a bit of variety and such large portions! i would recommending splitting a plate if you're not that big of an eater. my husband got pancakes with a strawberry compote and i got some sausage, eggs and hash browns. also got a papaya to share with everyone. my husband's friends got a burrito which was gigantic, and another pancake/egg combo type dish. the service was a bit slow, even on a slow weekday morning. maybe they're just on kauai time? hehe i will have to come back to check out their lunch/dinner menu. i bet this would be a really cool place to be for first saturdays to people watch!

Sad to say that this was the worst restaurant we went to while in Kauai. We were seated, then asked a waiter if all the appetizers (even pointing at the selections in the menu were half off) were 6 dollars during happy hour and he said yes, they all are! So we were delighted and began deciding what we wanted but then our waitress greeted us and told us what appetizers were for 6 dollars during happy hour and we were like ...okay..someone just said all appetizers were 6 dollars but whatever we let it go. We ended up ordering calamari and coconut shrimp for appetizers. The coconut shrimp was pretty good, tasted like what coconut shrimp should taste like. Nothing special, but not bad. The calamari, like a lot of their other foods, lacked taste. So for the main dish, I ordered the blackened Ono sandwich and it came with waffle fries. The waffle fries were good but the fish lacked taste. The other people in my party ordered the steak, a sandwich and the tostada salad. I tried the tostada salad and the shell tasted kind of stale. Overall we were all disappointed witht our meals. Our server was friendly, but seemed frazzled the entire time. What really took the cake of this whole was that we ordered the Kauai pie and it took 25 MINUTES to come out. We got full waiting for it and when we were trying to get the attention of our waitress to cancel it but she was no where to be found. When it finally came, it was massive. But literally 1 minute after it was placed the whole thing fell apart and melted. It was pretty good though, but not worth the wait. The positive thing out of this was the street view was nice. I wouldn't recommend coming here, and I for sure will not be coming here again.

So I come here all the time for work and we have had awesome service. That ended today and as a result they have lost our business from this group. I've never tried their breakfast and was looking forward to it but we were asked to leave before we could even sit down. They don't have any signage that states no outside drinks and we had just purchased our morning joe from downstairs below them and no sooner than they had actually shown is to a table someone came up and told us to leave. There was no niceness about it and they were curt and rude about it. We walked and won't be back. I have raved about this place to friends and family whenever we are here and it will no longer be a staple in our dining while on the island. 9/5 Edit- I do appreciate the manager responding. We entered on the main road side and as of today when we walked by there is no signage when you walk in about the drinks. If it is, my guess is at the top of the stairs but I cannot find it. I will give this place a try on another trip but was just bummed that this happened. Thank you again for responding Jakkie.

When I first got to Kauai, the owner of the bed and breakfast that we are staying at recommended this place for lunch. I've been back several times over the course of my stay since then. I tried the kalua pork sandwich, the ahi sandwich and the veggie wrap with tofu. All were very fresh and tasty. Try the Ono fish and chips and skip the seafood platter. Although cooked well, the shrimp and calamari were just ok. My sister had ordered this and after trying the fish portion last, she said that she wished she had gotten just the fish and chips because the Ono was so tasty! The wait staff there have all been so polite and accomodating. If you are visiting the restaurant with a larger group, it seems to take a bit longer for the food to arrive, since they bring it all out at once, but everyone's food arrived hot and fresh, so it didn't deter me from coming back. Lots of options for everyone's tastes. They offer a wide array of choices. Salads, tacos, burgers, wraps, etc.; even down to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich if the kids are being picky. Looking forward to trying their breakfast items next.

Tyler and I were back on home on Kauai. And like always.. We were hungry. We decided to try Olympic Café because neither of us has been there before. I've always wondered what it's like to eat from the balcony looking over the highway, and today was the day. The best thing about this place is that it serves breakfast till noon! This is absolutely perfect for people like us; individuals who find themselves waking up at odd hours of the day. Parking was easy to find and is located behind the restaurant. Tyler and I decided that we were going to wait for a table looking over the highway if it was busy, but to our luck, there were a few open high-rise tables on the edge. We sat across from each other and for a while we didn't even open our menu. We were so intrigued by how relaxing it all was. People watching in my opinion is always very interesting. Watching the cars drive by, seeing how people act in a situation... it's fascinating. When we took a look at the menu, it didn't take long for us to decide what we were going to order: Breakfast of course. They had so many different omelets to choose from, but I eventually picked the California Omelet, which consisted on 3 eggs, bacon, avocado, and cheese. I also got a side of papaya. Mmm Tyler ordered the kalua pig, over easy eggs, rice, with a side of bacon. I also ordered a coffee. My papaya was good, however the lime that they gave me to sqeeze over it was so dry. Then I squeezed it, barely any juice came out from the lime. It was still good without it. The omelet itself was tasty. I really liked the avocado and bacon. Tyler basically forced himself to finish his food, so I definitely did not finish all of my food. I had to get a box to go. The workers were very friendly as well. We even forgot our box of food and one of the bussers ran after us to give us our food. Overall, our experience at Olympic Café was pretty good. It met my expectations on what it was going to be like. The staff was accommodating and the food was alright. However, tbh, the only reason I'd find myself here is for the roadside table.

Been coming here for over three years and have generally had good service, but recently had a notable exception. After our server took our dinner order, we literally never saw her again. She had two large tables near us that she delivered food, drinks, extra napkins, etc to but never even did a quick check on us. After our food was delivered, I had to flag down four employees, to include the manager, to get a second beer. I also had to do the same to get the check. After the host drew the server's attention to us for the check, our server even had someone else deliver it. I asked to speak to the manager, who said that she knew something was going on when she had to get my beer. This was inexcusable for the manager and the server to do nothing to fix the situation. Simply handing off the table to someone else if she was swamped would have fixed it. Food was same as it always is-- pretty good. And the beer is nice and cold. Just not sure if I want to go back and compete with large parties for service. Maybe just stick to eating at the bar if I go back at all.

Came here early before a hike. I had to walk into the kitchen to meet the waitress- she didn't hear me asking if anyone was there (did that for a few minutes- they "open" at 6 am). It took over 30 minutes to cook scrambled eggs, sausage, fried potatoes, and the chorizo wrap with papaya. Everything was fine to good except for the sausage that came with a side of oil. I wouldn't recommend this place nor would I come again (we ended up getting our own napkins and were given the wrong code for the bathroom) - maybe during regular hours it is better.

I would like to be able to give a complete review but all I can speaks to is the cleanliness and how we were treated. We were undecided about where we wanted to have breakfast so we stopped for a coffee at another place before deciding we would try the Olympic Café . Coffee in hand we walked up the stairs and immediately noticed a sour smell like the place could use a good cleaning. We were greeted right away and seated by a friendly staff member and then approached by, I assume the manager, who told us outside food or drinks are not allowed. Ok I get it but nothing was posted and it isn't as if they serve specialty coffees. The guy was flat out rude and we felt that we were basically being kicked out. WOW! Ok I guess we won't order breakfast for 4 plus bloody marys etc. I will never spend my money here. Clearly they don't want or need the business.

Olympics was on the second floor and is average when it comes to food. Ordered a island burger, was a generic burger with a pineapple and bbq sauce. Nothing too special. My wife ordered Linguine Alfredo which was nothing more than basic. This isn't a must go to if in the area but it's decent.

Have been here before but many years ago. Hard to find as not very good signage but recognized the porch like environment from the street where I saw people sitting. Had a bar and lots of high top tables and regular tables and booths. Very rustic and definitely something you would expect on an island near the beach. They have a pretty diverse menu with lots of choices for everyone. Happy hour for drinks and pupus from 4pm to 7pm. Select appetizers not on the menu were all just $6 and pretty good size plates. Service was good but our sandwiches came out before our appetizers and then within 3 minutes we had everything on our table at once. Not much time to enjoy the appetizers. We had the coconut shrimp and potstickers which were both yummy and came out steaming hot. I had a Brie, avocado and sun dried tomato grilled sandwich which came with 1 side and I chose vole slaw. It came with a healing portion of cole slaw and sandwich came with a remoulade sauce that brought the sandwich all together. My friend had the Mediterranean wrap which was huge and got her side of papaya. The only downside was the flies. We spent most of our meal swatting flies to keep them off our food. We were sitting right on the edge overlooking the street so not sure if others were experiencing the same problem. I will try them again as they had lots of things I wanted to try but if flies are am issue again I will probably pass on future visits.

I've been to Olympic cafe tons of times. The food is good, nothing you couldn't find anywhere else. I do like their happy hour appetizers since they aren't on the menu ($6) and I must admit that their burritos are really good. Their monster burrito is my favorite. A pro is that their drinks actually taste like they have alcohol even the fruity ones. But I will say there is one problem every time I come to eat here. The servers act like they hate their jobs. Maybe it's just cuz I happen to go around happy hour which is 3-7 I believe. But I always have to ask what the happy hour apps are. They are never just told to the table. Also I had no idea they do a taco bar on aloha Friday until I was already done eating. That would have been nice to know. Also we had no idea who our server was. She came took our order. We saw the food runner and busser more than her. She came right as our meal was almost done to check on us. We got another drink. Then we didn't see her until after she dropped the bill and didn't even offer us another drink and we disregarded dessert. Will I come back again? Sure. Maybe try that taco bar next time. Would this be a place I would bring my friend if they were visiting for a week? Probably not. So many other amazing restaurants on the island.

Two words: dirty kitchen. Living here, we notice the place keeps getting dirtier and smellier. We could hardly even sit near the bar area last time because it smelled so much of rotting fruit and old liquor. Also, check out the screen door on the back stairs that leads up to the kitchen: it's completely brown/black and hardly visible because it is so filled with accumulated grease and dirt. I think it's time for the health department to visit...

The food was below average, service and reception was bad. There were plenty of empty and open tables with lots of staff. The waitress told us the restaurant would loose their liquor license if our less than 2 year old son was drinking milk (that we ordered from the restaurant) out of his thermos sippy cup. Perhaps this is just NOT a kid friendly restaurant. Regardless, the Food Network would not be impressed with this place. On a positive note I did enjoy my ice tea and the lovely couple that sat behind us were the friendliest people . Perhaps grab a drink here, meet the friendly customers and move on to another restaurant to eat.

Location is great and so are the views. That why I am giving two stars. It loses the other three for multiple reasons. First the waitress was horribly inattentive. She never refilled our waters even though she walked by with the pitcher of water and saw that we were empty. She picked up our check and credit card but instead of bringing it to the machine to be ran she dealt with her other tables which is not a problem. The problem was that not only did she deal with her tables once but she dealt with them several times including bringing them drinks and getting orders. So after fifteen minutes she finally comes to our table and tells us she is going to run our card. That's the last we saw of her. In total we saw the waitress 6 times. We saw her go to other tables a number of times more than that before they even got their food. As for the food we both ordered the Carne Asada burrito which is a wet burrito and thank goodness it was a wet burrito or else there would be absolutely no flavor. I don't know where the chef learned how to make Carne Asada but it's not supposed to be tough and flavorless. The black beans and rice had minimal flavoring. The so called "enchilada sauce" was more of a watered down marinara sauce. Sour cream was great though and so was the avocado. They have their own salsa but it's actually a cheap tasteless Pico de Gallo. And now for the dessert! Kauai pie!!! It's huge absolutely huge! But the flavors are not that good. You can get better ice cream from a corner store. Breyers ice cream is so much better. Even walmart great value brand ice cream is better. Overall I wouldn't recommend anyone to go here. Unless your willing to take a chance. Seeing Kapa'a is nice though

This was by far our worst dining experience while visiting Kauai. We had breakfast and found the food and the service to be sub par. The view is nice but could not make up for the (lack of) service and poor food. They have a prime location that seems they could really take advantage of!

I am so happy to be wrong! The Bloody Mary bar exists - on weekends only. Great food (banana pancakes, anyone?), wonderful second-floor view overlooking downtown Kapaa, overall an incredible lazy breakfast experience. Oh, and a Bloody Mary bar!

Atmosphere is comfortable, service was decent, but the food wasn't prepared well. My fish tacos were way overcooked/dry with no sauce and not much flavor, a shame. My husbands fish n chips again had not much flavor, though was cooked better (not overdone), and my son's burrito was mostly rice. We won't return.

We've here many times when we are on the island. The food is usually very good and portions are large. We were a little disappointed last night , we both got the blackened ono sandwich and it had way too much seasoning and was overcooked. We're going to consider this just an off night and try again. Tried them again for ono fish and chips. The portions were so large no one could finish. Ok but was a little greasy for my taste. All in all good food and a great value for your money. Service can be hit and miss.

I usually don't give bad reviews. I'm going to make an exception for this place. We ordered drinks a piña colada and a sunstroke both not good. Piña colada awful other drink mostly grapefruit juice little alcohol. Then the food a tomato and Brie sandwich not bad and fish tacos. The menu says best tacos on the island, which island is that. I don't want to go there for fish tacos then. Overall: thumbs down.

I come to Kauai every year to spend time with family. On days that I get famished and am starving for something big, I think of Olympic Cafe. What I Have: Monster Burrito + Iced Tea The Good: Proportions are big! Large variety of food Everything was fresh Iced tea tasted decent Seating is nice if your nearer to the street Bar + Television area The Bad: Flies can be a bother during some times in the year Saw the chef smoking in the bathroom Service can be hit or miss They used to have free fish tacos specials with a purchase of a drink Dated and rickety interior This place is not terrible nor have I ever gotten sick here. Granted there are better places to eat; however, given there is a wide selection of food here everyone in your party would be satisfied with what they have to offer.

Yummy burgers and the waffle fries were great. Portions = Huge! We should have split the burger. Service was a little slow, but our waitress was friendly. It was super hot - the ceiling fans do not work, but we managed to sit near window with a slight breeze. Want to go back and try the Kauai Pie.

My wife has an allergy to scale fish and always tells servers. In the islands, as back home, there are a lot of "fish" dishes and it's up to the server to communicate that to the kitchen. Today that was handled excellently except the manager's comment was a little odd in that he made a point of telling us all steps they went through and pretty much only because it was a slow time and how extreme my wife's reaction is if she does eat fish or cross-contaminated food. The server was great checking back a few times with us. My wife is still feeling fine so they must have done a thorough job in the kitchen. The food and drinks were very good; ahi burrito was huge.

Me and my husband went for breakfast and it was very good. We had a window seat and could sligtly see the ocean which was nice. He ordered the breakfast Burrito and I had the breakfast quesadilla. Both were Huge! We were going to share another dish but good thing we didn't. I Wouldn't have been able to eat another bite of anything. The quesadilla had bacon and cheese and the bacon was cooked perfectly and even though it was stuffed in the tortilla is was still crispy. The salsa was yummy and fresh and I would for sure order it again. Although I'd like to try just about everything on the menu. Service could have been better but who cares the food was great! The bus boy also found my husbands cell phone and ran down the stairs and all the way to our car door to give it to me. Much appreciated! Can't wait to return.

Maybe my memory is faulty. When I was a kid growing up here the Olympic Cafe was further down the street. I think it was where a Mexican place is now. Then again a lot of this town has changed over the decades. In any case, I like this place. Service is quick and friendly. Tried the avocado & Brie toast, found it very good. Which shows in that I wound up eating most of it. Tried the special for the night, not overly impressed, but edible. Loved the seared Ahi tuna, but the steak did have a high percentage of gristle in it. Didn't get a dessert, but the family did. If you plan to get one, don't eat dinner cause it is huge.

Fajitas were awesome a little spicy but okay. Normal flour tortillas. The teriyaki chicken was good but nothing you can't get on the mainland. Do not get the burgers. They are charbroiled on the grill and you can only taste the grill and not the meat. Unless you like that b

We ate here twice. Once for dinner and once for breakfast. The food was really good I had the Thai wrap and the breakfast burrito and both were pretty cheap and tasty. My wife had fish tacos and a Mexicanish scramble. Their drinks (including iced coffee in the am) were good (and mixed drinks were STRONG). The service we got at night was great. However I didn't like how the manager or bartender or whatever who was waiting on us for breakfast lied about some stupid things. It made the rest of the meal awkward... But the service was quick!

Decided to give breakfast a go here since we've done dinner many times on our frequent visits to this island. Grabbed coffee before hand and noticed no signs posted saying not to bring it in. Promptly greeted and sat. Then a guy walked up upon seating and promptly told us to leave because no outside food or beverage was allowed. He was very rude about the whole thing with no understanding. Went to Java Kai for another OUTSTANDING breakfast and service. Olympic Cafe, you've lost our business.

Service: Seated quickly, waited approx 10 mins til waitress came to take order. Food: fish tacos look like McDonald's chicken and rubber but taste worst. Seated tuna was decent, fish and chips was ok. Drinks: piña colada, tastes like it was pulled out of a fountain at SAMs club. View: good Paying: took 15-20 mins to get check

I love the location and eating at the high tables and being able to look out and people watch... The salads are huge and awesome so prob best to split or waste half of it . The spaghetti is very watery ..don't sit at the high top table overlooking street next to the bar ! Ughhh I don't know why I did this a few times but the service is horrible .. I think it's bartenders section and she doesn't seem to care too much ... The bartender is very inattentive and u gotta flag someone down for silverware when u get your food and when u want the bill to leave .. I think the place needs a makeover ...

We had eaten here before on another trip, and I said something like "I'm not going to get a giant lunch!" What I forgot was that ALL the lunches are giant! I had a wrap with ahi, avocado,& rice, that I couldn't finish, even though it was great tasting. It came with papaya, which was refreshing. My husband thought his pulled pork sandwich was the best ever, and it was monstrous! Next time we must split something!

This place is a total dumb. From the waitress with her baby on her hip, to the restrooms that were worse then construction sites. Food was substandard Sysco shit at best. Tourist trap, if I hadn't be forced to eat here I won't.

We had a fantastic meal at Olympic Cafe, we sat upstairs and checked out the streets of Kapaa. We were able to walk here on the bike path from our rental cottage. Our food was tasty and fresh and our beers were cold. Our family of 4 all ordered wraps. Super good. Huge portions, lots of options and vegetarian friendly.

It's a great scene here with the view overlooking the central intersection in Kapaa. The veggie and tofu options to swap out meat were beyond ideal and a crazy suprise. The veggie burger is homemade and messy but good. I had it with the terryaki pineapple burger (subbing the meat) and it was a delicious mess. The fries were just okay and the terriyaki could have been a little more authentic but I inhale it. It was yum. My husband devoured his burger an nothing was left but swears of sauce and smiles. The bathroom is locked and downstairs out back in the parking lot area which is inconvenient but it is clean and spacious so it works. Overall a great spot I'd go back and I might before I leave. Also staff is nice spunky and young.

I would actually give it 3.5 stars. Friendly service. Chill atmosphere. Great view of Kapaa from the 2nd floor. In general they have decent food but not great - but they have so many choices. They lost a half star for poor mixed drinks here (particularly the Iniki Mai Tai that was overly sweet and tasted like canned fruit juice). I would stick with beer here and you'll be good. The California Ahi Nori Wrap (outstanding) and the ono fish and chips are good choices.

Honestly I've had way better. The first time I came, I had an awesome pancake. That is about where the pros end. Today, we came with some others from our family. I ordered a salad while my brother ordered a plain hamburger, the bun not toasted. The food came out, my salad having too many slimy carrots for anyone to eat, strike one, and my brothers burger with a toasted bun. Strike two. We traded it out for a new bun, and it came out with mold on it. Strike three. But you know who got out? My brother and I. We walked down to Hee Fat to grab some shaved ice and walked back upstairs. We immediately got kicked out for having "food or drink from the outside", even though we came in with two bottles of Dr Pepper, and wen we finished them they joyfully asked if we wanted them thrown away. I don't see the problem with ice! Also seeing as it's neither a food nor a drink, whyd we get kicked out? I would give it a 0 if it wasn't for the breakfast. But the service only me and my brother got was pretty ignorant. Not coming back.

We went here on our first night in Kauai. It was packed, and lot of younger people were there with their friends or at the bar. But there were also a few families and older guests as well. Their Mai Tais are good, but the ice makes them melt too fast and this they taste watered down after the first few drinks. The waitress we had was great, she kept checking in on us to let us know the eta of our food, if we wanted more beverages, etc. My folks both had hamburgers, and I had the ahi tuna in cilantro sauce. My dish came with steamed veggies and garlic mashed potatoes, which were OUT OF THIS WORLD. They were super garlicky and delicious. We also went back for dinner on our last night in Kauai. This time we were able to get a booth on the street side, which was nice to people watch and get the breeze. Our waitress was nice, but a but absent at times. My dad ordered a side of the garlic mashed potatoes in addition to his seafood platter, but when our food came he didn't get them. I flagged down another waitress to let her know and she went and got the order, but it sounded like it was never communicated the first time to the cooks. My mom got the ribs, which were good but needed more sauce, because they were a bit flavourless without it. I got the papaya-macadamia nut ahi and it was AMAZING. It was cooked just how I ordered and the sauce/relish was amazing; sweet and salty. Overall, we will probably go back when we come back to Kauai. The food is good, but the portions are HUGE (which I like for leftovers, but others may not). There are tons of menu options, and they serve the lunch menu all day after about 11am, so that's nice. The wait staff is friendly and outgoing, but a different person that was not our waitress brought out our food on both visits, which I found slightly odd. Another downside is that the place could use a good scrub down. It's not unsanitary, but the railing to get upstairs could really use a scrub, and the edges of crannies by the booths as well.

Good food. Service was not great. The server that was waiting on us was fine. The gal that brought the food needs to up her customer service skills. Kind of rude, ruined our meal. Would have come back during our stay since the food was tasty. Can't justify it though. Too many nice people on the island to meet!

Interior was unclean, the food was mediocre, and our party got very sick after eating here. I do not recommend it.

My wife and I ate here, fresh off the airplane. The food was excellent. She had fish tacos which where awesome. I had the Kalua pork sandwich, delicious with great fries. The service was good and the open window seat was a great start to our trip. Hoping to catch their famous taco bar before I leave.

Really really really hate giving it a 3 star. dinner was a5 but did not get my beer with my dinner after asking 3 different times kind of made it go down to the three props to the busers and cooks they where wonderful sorry for my review but do make a to go order

Upon arrival, it was a little busy but not too overloading, we waited to get seated. My girlfriend and I were seated but it took about 20 minutes for a waiter to even pass by our table. We had to ask someone to take our order. The waiter was a super cool chick but it just didn't make up our time there. The food was kind of like a TV dinner. I got the Ahi Furikake and it was a bit cold. The ahi was a square piece of fish. It came with two scoops of room temperature garlic mashed potatoes and carrot chips and broccoli that came from a frozen vegetable bag. For the price that they charge, you're just paying for the fish. 2 stars because I love Ahi.

Kickback friendly and fast service. Rolled with the family, staff helped out right away.

Giving 2 stars because our server was friendly, and kindly removed the fried zucchini appetizer (worst we've ever had). The Kailua Pork, and Teriyaki Chicken were both super dry. All in all, a huge disappointment. But we hear breakfast is good....:/

Excellent service and great food! Some of the best ham I've had since I was a child, and the eggs are yummy. HUGE coffee cups, great staff, nice open view of the town.

Maybe we had a off night. Long wait to be seated, even longer wait for our drinks. Food was good but they forgot one of our orders, so my sister had to wait 15 more minutes while everyone else eat. They did give her a free slice of cake to make up for it. When we were checking out our bill seamed high. We realized a $10 appraiser somehow turned into a $100 appetizer! If we hadn't looked at the bill they would have over charged us $90. They fixed the mistake but with no explanation as to how it happened.

Our tour guide from zip lining recommended the Olympic Cafe. The food here was really good and huge portions. My two teenage daughters and I shared the tostada salad. My husband got a monster burrito. It was truly monster size. The hula pie was also humongous and delicious. The prices were very reasonable and the service was fast (something you don't find often with island time). Everywhere else we have eaten was just OK. I would definitely go back to this place.

Been here a few times before, Breakfast is decent....mix of continental and local. Dinner is way better, seeing as how they are also serving their lunch menu as well. Got an Angel Hair pasta with breaded chicken. The portion size was generous. The dessert was totally worth the money!!! 4 stars because they don't do split checks, but they do a, "how much do you want to pay, and well take that out of the total", thing.

  • Shana S.

Build your own Bloody Mary bar was AWESOME! Got the Kalua Pork Burrito and it was so huge and delicious! Friends got the 2-2-3, pancakes with coconut syrup, and spinach scramble. All delicious. Food came out super quick and great service!

We walked around Kapaa and wanted a bite to eat and enjoy some local atmosphere. We were seated streetside.....and then ignored for 10 + minutes. Lots of restaurant staff went by us, several times, but not one of them even acknowledged us. My husband is a very patient man, but he finally said that if nobody would look at us within two minutes, we'd leave. A "hi there, I'll be right with you" would have been nice, but No. We finally got up and left. Here's the funny part: as we walked out, a waitress said, "Bye, guys, thanks. Have a great afternoon!" she didn't even realize we'd been sitting in the restaurant!

I've decided to give the OC 5 stars. The reason is, is that this place is consistent. That's super hard to find on Kauai. It's very hot or miss with most place, however, you know what your going to get when coming here and it never fails to deliver. We eat here all the time, especially bc their salads are so masssive that 2 people can share them. There are no good salad bars on Kauai, so we often will take out. This is a great local experience. They cater to both locals and tourists, so it's a nice blend. Thanks OC. You rock.

I was really disappointed with this restaurant. We heard great things about it, that's why we went. At first, the waitress was nice, but as soon as they became busy, we didn't see her again until she dropped off our check. Our food took over 40 minutes to get to us, but tasted like it had been sitting for 15. The tables that were seated after us (a long while after), all received their food before us. And we ordered things that should've been very quick. No one (including a manager) talked to us about the wait or food sitting too long. Very disappointing. *The only reason I chose a 2-star rating instead of a 1, was that the salad I ordered was delicious. Had the dining experience been better or even if a manager spoke to us about the food taking some time, it would've changed our experience.

Nice spot. Take a jacket just in case it is outsideish food is great. Large portion witch is perfect.

  • Karen R.

So disappointed! The place was packed but in this case, didn't mean a thing. Our appetizer came out 3 minutes before our dinners. I ordered the ahi. They dropped the food and that was the end of that. No one came by to ask of it was good, if we needed anything, refills......the 4 oz waters are a joke. Will never be back. You shouldn't either. I wish I believed the negative reviews.

They would not allow me in because I was wearing a backpack. I'm traveling and do not have a purse. I have my passport, cash , cc, all with me and we walked 20 minutes to get there. They told me it's because it's happy hour and they don't allow back packs in during happy hour because people can bring in their own booze snuck in my the backpack!?? Sounds like a management problem to me and to solve it they punish honest guests like me. Kauai is a laid back island with tons of travelers wearing back packs. Too bad, bad management ruins this place. I offered to leave my backpack with them but they just shook their heads and embarrassed me and my friends by making us leave. Horrible hospitality. No aloha!

Good place to watch a game or grab a quick bite. Open-air seating so you can smell the beach and very casual. The avocado brie omelette was delicious and the pancakes are literally the size of your head (seriously, they are not kidding when they say "extra large!). Super friendly staff!

    (4)

Very good food. Great view of town from the window seats. Large variety in menu and very good prices. Very friendly staff

Well..... I thought I might stop in have a quick bite and a drink. I have to say, not only does the Olympic Cage have the WORST calamarie on island - Mc Donald's could do better - but the service was sooo poor - I will never be back! Who buys the cheapest worst quality frozen seafood and serves it in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! And who trains these people that work there? My god how do they make a living - they are rude! Bad service , and horrible at checking on you to see if you want or need anything - including your check- the only reason I left any tip at all is because I know everyone here has high rent to pay and it is hard on all of us, but no way am I ever going back

    (1)
  • Molly M.

Ugh. I'd give this place a zero if I could. This place is just awful. We ate there as a last resort and have regretted it ever since. The service was SO incredibly bad and the food was barely edible. How hard is it to make a simple burrito and iced tea???? The couple next to us were seated promptly and orders taken a solid 10 mins after we had ordered.... And guess who got their food first?! They actually were even able to finish eating AND pay before we received our cold food. Nice. To make matters worse, they brought out the wrong food! We were so hungry and tired of waiting (now 1 hr and 12 mins later!) we just ate what they brought (and it sucked). If you're desperate for food, I'd recommend going to the ABC store before going there.

    (1)
  • Kathy S.

This was the second time we came here. Both times the food was very good. Big portions so if you're hungry, this is the place to go! The ambiance sitting upstairs in the open air setting is very nice. The Mai Tai's were really good. Worth going for sure if you are in the area!

    (4)
  • Corey K.

The food is average, but the drinks and specials were good. Even better was the service - Kristen was very friendly. It's a fun place with open-air (but covered) seating facing the street-side of Kapa'a from the second floor. Nothing special, but a good place to camp out and drink while planning your next adventure.

First stop while waiting for our condo to be ready. Walking distance feom Pona Kai Resort. Good food!! Ice cold beer!! Nice ocean breeze and football. Hawaiian burger with slaw was messy excellent! Avacado, brie and sun dries tomato was also Excellent. Did I mention ice cold beer!?!?!

My wife and I spent the day on Kauai - this was our early evening spot for a couple drinks and awesome appetizers. This place is cool - it's open air on the 2nd floor with a nice overlook of Kapaa town and some peek-a-boo views of the ocean. Knowing, how local competition works in small towns, I can tell you those overly negative reviews are from competitors who probably don't stack up. We really liked Olympic Cafe and we'll be back next time we decide to spend a day on our neighbor island.

  • Mike O.

If I could give a negative star I would. They won't do separate checks. Instead of trying to figure something out, the told us "see how busy we are?" The manager said we could leave. So we did. All 8 of us and probably a $400 check. Xner@me.com

Ordered a salad. Portion sizes were large which made it seem like a good value until I had to send it back because all the lettuce was wilted. All the veggies in the salad were several days past their prime. They were not able to remedy my meal and I had to go find another place to eat. Service was mediocre.

    (2)
  • Bob B.

Conveniently located. Nice enough place. Has seats along street to people watch and on ocean side to get a breeze. Had the ahi/nori wrap. Pretty good. Big! Drinks were good also. Large variety of tropical drinks but drinks are not very tasty. Bland.

  • Sandra D.

I stopped at Oasis after cruising the bike trail hoping to get a drink, great food, and a nice view. I ordered the kahlua pig quesadilla and my friend got the ahi burrito. We both agreed the food was just ok, not amazing. We did have a nice view of historic Kapaa and great service. I would skip this place unless you're desperate. There are far better places to eat nearby.

  • Sue T.

The Kalua pork burrito was the bomb!! And, it was huge, big enough for us to share, and then some. The upstairs location was great, views of then ocean to one side and the mountains to the other. Good beers on tap, and definitely a local bar kind of feel.

Bar & Grill · Family Style Restaurant. The food is really good, the quality of the meet is superb, so if you are looking for american style, Olimpic Cafe is a great choice. I had a burger that was delicious! My friends had the Alfredo pasta (simple and with shrimps) and they both loved it, and they shared that their fries where amazing! Their margaritas and wine selection were tasty. I really enjoyed their service.

Had lunch yesterday. We go here at least once every time we're on the island. The Kalua pork quesadilla is awesome. Don't miss the macadamia nut pie. Enjoy the open air dining!!

We come here each trip to Kauai. The food is always good and we've never had bad service, even on a busy Saturday night. This isn't gourmet food, it's pretty basic stuff but the menu is quite large. We had a BLT and quesadillas amd iced tea. The portions are a good size and the sides are really good. I love their cold slaw. They seem to have great dessets though we've never had them but marveled at a concoction called March madness - huge dessert covered in chocolate, meant to share with the entire table it looks. It's a rooftop venue and for me, I'd rather not sit where I can see the street - less flies. The furniture is so sticky and grimey but the table tops are clean and on a warm Saturday evening, televisions blaring, people talking and with the good food, it's like a great neighborhood place.

  • Amy J.

The roadside seats pulled us in (as well as the easy parking). Service was average, food was below average (don't order the moy special sandwich - globs of pesto on stale, over-oiled bread), and restaurant was dirty. By chance I saw the kitchen as I was walking to the dirty (surprise!) bathrooms, and immediately felt ill... Chaotic, messy working area and dirty floors. I love laid-back Hawaii, but this was lazy.

    (1)
  • Amanda G.

Yeah it was ok. The food was ok but not great. The service was good, fast and friendly. And we got a great table overlooking the street etc. The bathroom situation is weird - it's not actually inside the restaurant.

This is our third trip to Kauai, and the Olympic Cafe is one our favorite stops. From 3-7 they have happy hour, with reduced drink prices by $1.25 and reduced appetizers. We have had the chicken wing and wontons which are good. The coconut shrimp is okay, but I have had better elsewhere. My husband had the chicken fajitas, which he said was good. They have a taco bar on Friday nights, which is free if you buy a couple of drinks. Service can be slow at times. Bar a local hangout. Atmosphere beach like.

We've been to the Olympic Cafe twice on different trips to Kauai (most recent June 2015) and both times it's been a similar experience. Location is nice with open air setting and views of the mountains. Menu is very large with lots of choices and staff is attentive. Food is decent, but not impressive. Their claim to have the best fish tacos on the island is not accurate - they are unique in that the tacos come with a fried banana, but fish were relatively tasteless. Meals here are generous, but food not particularly tasty or impressive. OK

    (3)
  • Chris R.

Amazing! Best Ahi Appetizer. Both breakfast (banana nut pancakes) and lunch (burger and blackened Ono sandwich) were excellent and the service was great. Great atmosphere upstairs. Really god people watching below.

  • Samantha S.

Great place for breakfast but take my advice and if you decide on the breakfast burrito... It's so big that you can split it with three people!! So delicious! The fruit plate is a great starter to share with five people too.

  • Ruth B.

This is the second time I've eaten here. Service this time around was better; our waiter was very polite and attentive. The food isn't the best I've had but it's still delicious and the portions are massive! I ordered the Kalua pork breakfast burrito and my roommate ordered regular pancakes. The food came out quickly an was hot. My burrito was huge; my roommate's first exclamation was, "That's bigger than you!" (It was almost the size of my head) The burrito was tasty; the Kalua pork was fresh and it was a good combination of flavors, especially with the tropical salsa. My roommate's stack of three pancakes was also huge. The pancakes weren't as fluffy as they could have been but they had good flavor and were very filling. Summary - easy to get to, plenty of parking, good service, reasonable prices, huge servings, and good food.

We went there on Mother's Day with my in laws. My mother in law has a sever allergy to gluten and frequently brings her own food places to avoid an allergic reaction. This is the first restaurant to prohibit her eating her own food. I'm sure the meals are delicious but the policy of not accommodating allergies is disappointing. Needless to say we went somewhere else for a meal. Thankfully, the Kountry Style Kitchen accommodated our needs.

We came here for breakfast 2 times while we were on a 1-week vacation; so that speaks to the fact that we were indeed pleased with our experience! The place is a little buried since it is upstairs on the second floor of an obscure building with little or no parking. We parked across the street and walked over. If you have to go to the restroom, it' a hike back downstairs to a combination-locked public restroom for the whole building. But such is common in Kauai, right? With all that aside, the actual restaurant is a casual open-air dining area with all of the window tables having a birds-eye view of the quaint street below. When we came for breakfast, we had the place to ourselves and got a great window seat each time. The food was fantastic and the service was friendly. We had the following (which makes me want to go back as I'm typing this): Acapulco omelette with chorizo sausage, cheese, avocado, sour cream and salsa. Banana mac-nut pancakes with chocolate chips. Hawaiian sweetbread French toast with a side of Portuguese sausage. All were excellent!

This.place was recommended by a friend who grew up here. It was obviously a while ago. This place is full of rude people. Servers, bus boys, bartenders, and customers. No aloha spirit in existence. Go down the street to Beachwalk Restaurant.

    (1)
  • Nick S.

Olympic Cafe has solid fish tacos, but I'm not sure they're as venerated as the menu would suggest. The first taco is quite tasty, but if you're not quick the second will get soggy as it absorbs the moisture from the fish and the salsa. Soggy tortillas aside, it's a great spot if you're in Kapaa and need to kill time. You won't be bothered hanging out and there's great people watching to be had on the street down below.

  • Melody K.

The last time I was here was 2 years ago and my family wanted to give them one more try to see if anything had improved...nope...about the same. Every dish that we had (ahi burrito, chicken and avocado club, Robb salad and calamari with chips)were just "meh" with the exception of the ahi burrito which was just downright disgusting. Service was just okay, nothing exceptional. I am concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen because the dinning room was absolutely FILTHY!! This was the last time we will be going here.

    (1)
  • Heather S.

This was our usual spot to hit up for breakfast. The cafe is on the second story of a gift shop and is all open air. The wait staff is phenomenal! We even came here for dinner and drinks a few times as most of the bars and restaurants close early and this place is the only bar we found to stay open late. The coffee is so good I didn't even miss my Starbucks. All the food is pricey on the entire island but they give you so much food we quickly learned to share- especially if it was fruit or pancakes (they are the size of a grown mans head here) Definitely check this place out you wont be sorry!

    (5)
  • Jacqulyn G.

Location and view was great! Our waitress was attentive and friendly. If you are looking for a place to have drinks and people watch, this is the place to go. I ordered the fish tacos which are advertised as the "best on the island". The only part I enjoyed about my meal was the banana. My husband ordered the ahi sandwich. He described it as fair. He liked the waffle fries and coconut shrimp.

    (2)
  • Sher M.

Came in here on a not so busy morning. The hostess was really nice and our waitress was awesome! It was my friends 21st birthday and the waitress bought my friend her first drink! The food was good. My Caesar salad was so-so, not worth $12 I think. But the French toast I tried was yummy!!! I love their waffle fries. I'll be back!

    (4)
  • Rebecca S.

Worst food on the island!!! Sticky dirty floors, rude customer service, and....was that even a drink???? They 100% under pour!!! Ordered my daughter a side of plain sliced Avacado, absolutely the worst. Love to know how you manage to screw that up!!! Chips and salsa made me want to barf! Gross flavor and WAY TOO THICK! Salsa was near flavorless! NEVER EVER EVER EVERRR AGAIN!

    (1)
  • Patti F.

Breakfast: huge portions, good prices, good service. it's an open air restaurant, so beware. We chose to sit on the street side, I suppose we could have chosen "beach' side, but really it's the view of the parking behind the building and not quite as awesome as it might sound.

    (4)
  • Kris W.

We have driven by this place for several months and finally decided to try it after seeing the food photos on yelp. The service was great and the food presentation was wonderful. We ordered the avocado Brie appetizer and the tostada salad. It was beautiful but nether item had any flavor. Have to say one and done. Disappointing.

If you want marginal food in large portions that are slightly overpriced then this is the place for you. Can't say anything we ate or drank at this establishment was great. Our waitress however was lovely and the food was delivered promptly.

Got seated quickly but never got asked for anything to drink. In fact we sat there for 10 minutes and never had a waiter stop and acknowledge us... got up and left

Not too impressed. The pork plate was good, lacked a little flavor. The guavarita was strong but lacked the guava flavor. (I probably would have ordered a couple more and not made it down the stairs) Our wings were cold on the inside which is definitely not ok for hot wings. My husband said his pork burrito wasn't great. Other than the good view over the Main Street on Kapaa for their first Friday, we weren't impressed and probably wouldn't go back.

    (3)
  • Jarod H.

Five stars. The seating next on the second floor overlooking Kapaa town is really nice in the early mornings on the weekend. The food here is excellent and the service is friendly. I really enjoy coming here when I am on the Garden Island of Kauai.

I loved the Ahi burrito and my friends all liked their food too. The open-air, second-floor venue is fun. The bartenders are good but the table service staff is not. They seem like untrained, amateurish young kids trying to wait on tables. They are not very professional at all. The Olympic Cafe is not group-friendly. They won't separate bills within a group (we had about 12-people). I won't return with a group and I will order my food at the bar if I do return. I think they have management issues regarding the poorly trained staff and their unwillingness to work with groups. For a better group experience in the Kapaa area try Pau-Hana Cafe or the 9th Island Cafe. Both are in the shopping center in Waipouli and both have good food, reasonable prices and very professional table service staff who are friendly and helpful to groups.

    (1)
  • Anna N.

Adding another star because the manager emailed me to clarify that they do not use canned produce and do not have a microwave. I was perhaps a little harsh in my critique, and I wish I could go back to Kauai to give Olympic cafe another chance. Unfortunately the experience I had there before was not great.

    (2)
  • Troy P.

Not a bad spot after a couple hours on the bike trail. The bar and tables looking over the street offer a cool view. We had a few beers and a Mai Tai for drinks then the coconut shrimp and shrimp cocktail for apps. Coconut was pretty good but the cocktail was just OK. It said jumbo shrimp on the menu but these guys definitely needed to spend more time in the gym. By the looks of other people's entrees though I would try this place again time permitting on my vacation.

  • Moxie M.

The negative reviews about this place are BS! My girlfriend and I visited Kauai for the weekend and ate both our morning meals here. The food was AWESOME, portions are GENEROUS, staff is FRIENDLY and PROFESSSIONAL! Who ever writes poor reviews about this place has got to be a snooty tightwad with rich taste and unrealistic expectations. I mean it is just unfair. Don't be a snob and give this establishment a chance, you won't be sorry you did! PS Try the Kalua Pig Burrito and the Mediterranean wrap! Delicious!!!

The raviolis were great, the sauce had a hust enough kick to them. Put stickers were great too, as were the salads.

Service was prompt and satisfactory. Table was a bit sticky and overall atmosphere just ok. Such a big menu had me a bit concerned so I played it safe with cheese burger. Was starving so gobbled up without tasting and stomach was filled. Wife had quesadilla which she claimed was decent. Would not return to eat.

  • Sean B.

This is your typical tourist dining spot. Things feel laid back, but the wait staff isn't too pleased to be working. The menu options are creative, as you would hope in a tropical location. However, the ingredients did not seem as fresh as needed for fish and veggie dishes.

    (3)
  • Bill C.

Stopping in this open air 2nd story restaurant was a good move. It looks like fun to eat there with its casual laid back atmosphere, and we had a positive experience with our lunch. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious! It was tender and juicy. Plus it was a generous portion size. Really good. And the waffle fries are the best. Service was good too.

I'm one of the "in-laws" that visited OC on Mother's Day with my son and his fiance.. It was difficult enough just to get seated in an empty restaurant, but the refusal to provide a service setting for my wife's gluten-free food allergy was inexcusable. If a restaurant doesn't provide a gluten-free preparation area, then the food IS NOT gluten-free, simple as that. We were not happy about leaving, however some locals referred us to Kountry Kitchen, and we ate there three mornings while our vacation and had NO issues getting table service for my wife's "outside" food, and the food was fantastic. Arrogant manager, dirty kitchen too. Too bad there's not a rating less than one star for OC!!

Wife order sea food platter and got chicken strip instead of fish.. Waitress said they cook fish and chicken in the same fryer.. Had a party of 6 and wanted to split the check in 2. Waitress said no can on check per table. Service and food not that great..This is the second time we came here from Honolulu.. I feel sorry if someone is allergic to fish. orders chicken strip and gets fish.. Looks like a law suit especially if they cook both chicken and fish in same batter/ fryer at the same time.. I don't think I'll ever come back here again.. They luck to get even one star.. Need better service and food!!!

  • Jim Z.

The food is really good. The coconut syrup poured very easily. The Tabasco sauce was watered down. It jigled like water on table as people walked by. It took a really long time to get food so don't be in a mainland hurry to eat. Enjoy the bloody Mary bar . Remember you are on vacation chill out. The portions are huge.

Great place to have lunch! It's upstairs and the dining room has a nice breeze blowing through. Service was great as our server as well as other servers had a pleasant demeanor. We had an excellent server! I ordered the fish and chips! The fish was lightly battered, seasoned well and the fish was tender and moist. My wife had the fish tacos which she really enjoyed. Of all the places one can eat at in Kauai, I would definitely suggest the Olympic Cafe!

The happy hour is what brought us here. It's not too special of a happy hour, a selection of fried apps and various drinks with $1.00 off. The wings were good! Are they Kauai Chickens?? Jk.. Lol get the wings. The coconut shrimp was a little too fried but the sauce was good. The drinks were strong.

I've been here many times.... But this time I was very, very disappointed. They took Hawaiian time to a whole new level. After waiting over 30 minutes for our food, it arrived stone cold. Not even luke warm.... After three requests for some ranch dressing for our fries, the plate was slammed onto our table without a word. The staff was extremely unfriendly... Not what I remember in the past.
