Boo. Way overpriced and bad overall. Long Island Ice Tea $7.50 (very watered down) Crab Cake $9.00 (there was not a hint of real crab meat in the two crab cakes --- the outside was browned and very oily, and the inside was basically a mush of fake crab meat and God knows what) Calamari Frittatas $8.00 (very little portion of it, and more like eating fish sticks --- actually... I would have probably preferred fish sticks over those) Lemongrass Salad $7.00 (the only remotely good dish we had ordered) Steak & Prawn Combo $26.00 (when the dish was brought out, it did not look good, with some type of sauce on top of the prawns. The steak --- though we had ordered medium rare, was way overcooked, and had many parts that were just pure fat. This dish is straight up a Sizzlers meal that could have been had for $12.99, but instead, we're charged twice that amount). The dinner rolls served were cold and hard. They really do a good job of making bad food cost a lot. The "live entertainment" was a guy singing and playing keyboard really poorly --- but since I'm critiquing the food, I'll stop here.

We stopped here after going ATV riding for some seafood. We were greeted nicely and our waiter, Ronald was friendly and helpful. He told us some of the specials they were having and ensure everything was ok. Always stopped by to make sure everything was good which was a plus, but then again it wasn't too busy. The food that we order was good yet not the best. I would recommend this place if you are coming after a long day of activities.

Of the 10+ restaurants I sampled on the island, this is by far the best. I happened to have a craving for ribs earlier that day, so I went with exactly that. It was tender, juicy, cooked to perfection. My friends had mahi mahi and the drunken duck, they all enjoyed it as well. I also ordered a lava flow, it was simply sensational. It was a bit embarrassing though when I asked the waitress whether there was rum in it - I didn't taste any alcohol in it at all. My liver must be telling me something there. I didn't mind sitting on the patio area, except when a few ape hangers barked down the street occasionally and disrupted our conversation. In Kaua'i standard, this place is definitely top-notch.

What a bummer of a meal. I ordered the shrimp...took a long time to get one piece chewed. A bit like leather. Darn...could have bought a new Hawaiian dress for the price of those five shrimp. Happens every now and then. However, we were impressed with the dragon made from rope sitting aside our table. Highly unrecommend this place...spendy and old Cheney food.

Food is OK but nothing great. Wine was underwhelming. Entertainment was very dated cover music with a poor sound system and a singer who ignored our requests from his song list (which he asked for and had hand delivered to him with a hefty tip). Rating does not reflect entertainment. There are much better options in the area. The food is mediocre at best. Meh.

Another disappointing restaurant on the island. What's up with that? Did they send all the chefs who didn't cut it on the other islands here? We started with the lobster ravioli. And when you order lobster ravioli, you'd expect the lobster to be inside the ravioli. Wishful thinking on my part, I guess. For my entree, I ordered the steamed garlic snapper. While it tasted very fresh, it was also the blandest piece of fish I've ever had. My bf had the guava BBQ ribs which were tough and the sauce just tasted weird. This place wasn't cheap either. Excellent service though.

We were excited to come to this restaurant, it had great reviews in all the tour books (though we have found yelp is, as always, a much better source), but were extremely disappointed. The service and ambiance was great, but the food was less than to be desired, especially at the price. We had the shrimp appetizer that was over cooked and a tiny portion. My GF had the fillet, which neither of us thought was a cut of fillet, way rough and not that much flavor. I had the sea bass, which did have good flavor, but was a thin cut and slightly over cooked. much better places on the island at a better price

Ordered the Seafood Platter for two again and it was still as appetizing as ever - two mahi mahi, two lobster, 4 scallops in some creamy buttery sauce with mushrooms, 5 shrimp in a similar sauce, and a big serving of potatoes drizzled with oil. Apparently a lot of people come back for that dish and don't even take a look at the menu (according to our server). This time there weren't many flies flying around, but I could feel mosquitos landing on me. I guess I didn't put enough mosquito repellent on.

The mixed seafood curry was off the hook! The five spice prime rib was alright.

Came here after seeing the restaurant on the front page of a tourist magazine. Not sure how much they had to pay off the magazine's editor, but their review sure wasn't based on their food's quality. I mean the food wasn't horrible, but we all walked away knowing there were better asian fusion places out there. I had the macadamia nut crusted sea bass after reading the reviews here on Yelp...meh. It was greasy, pan fried fish with a sprinkle of mac nuts. My brother got the ribs which were okay but not that juicy. My dad had the seafood cioppino which was wimpy...a crab claw & leg and a few shrimps in a sauce that was definitely not cioppino. Dishes were overpriced for the quality-$20-30/person. The restaurant had an old musty feel to it and the live music was a sleepy imitation hawaiian singer. We were all more excited to come home and eat the ice cream we had in the freezer haha.

We read the review and decided to go there for the ribs and sea bass. However, the waiter was trying to sell their most expensive dish saying it's the best value. We saw the other table ordering it and it looked pretty good. The value was great for two lobsters, scallops, garlic shrimps and fish (sides include potatoes, veggies, salad). I give it a 5 star for food presentation, but a 2 for food taste. The lobster was a major disappointment because it was tough, overdone, and not what a juicy/succulent buttery lobster should taste. Sad to say, red lobster even tasted better than their lobster. The food is not to die for, but the ambiance is quite good. The food at other tables also 'looked' delicious, but I don't know if they are. All I know is that, the seafood platter costs about $80 for the couple and it looked better than it tasted.

My husband and I visited this restaurant last year when we went to Kauai. The food is good and the ambiance is fine. I'd have given it a 4 or 5 stars if the price wasn't so high for what the food was. The steam fish I ordered was fresh, but really, it wasn't particularly that impressive. It's kinda just a typical steamed fish dish, and wasn't worth the price they charged. But it was tasty. Anyways, I wouldn't go back because it's not really worth the price.

Updated: Just cause u have entertainment does not me your food should have some slack. Two of us came here for dinner during the week last week. It caught our eye because of the word seafood in the title, and we noticed they had live entertainment playing, which was a guy singing and strumming a guitar. The Hawaiian songs were nice for a Wed evening. The menu has a variety of items. Initial glace it seems pricey for the items but then again this is Kauai. I order one of there "famous" seafood curry. I don't see what was so famous about it. It was rice, with a normal curry sauce. The seafood on the plate was scarce. Some scallops, scrimp, and calamari slices. Probably not worth the price since I can make this dish at home myself. The only thing noticeably good was the calamari. Seemed very fresh fro the calamari slices. The other dish order was a fish dish over roasted potatoes and veg, nothing special. Overall I would not recommend this place. I give it 3 instead of 2 stars because of the live music and because you can sit outside in a nice closed patio. For the $60 spent I was not impressed. The sever was also sort of crazy, spoke really fast and seemed fake. Maybe that was just the way he was but sort of odd I thought. There must be something better around. I would suggest exploring. Ahhh , the more I think abouyt this place I need to give it 2 stars.

No not the place to go. If you are looking to spend $40 a person and be dissapointed this is the place for you! The fish does make the attempt, but not good. No taste. A lemongrass taste in everything. I do have to admit the drinks were good or I would have given worst .All five of us were dissappointed. in our party .Trader Joes frozen fish cooked yourself is about the same.I kid you not. When the son is the madre"D and relative a waiter with electric organ music..good luck.. Dont waste your time go directly to Roy's. Worth the wait! and even if you have to pay more..That why people go there.

A great spin on Thai cuisine with excellent island hospitality. Menu offers a variety from seafood, curry items, pasta, fish & chips, steaks, etc. that it's sure to appease everyone. You don't have to be a fan of Thai food to enjoy the great food and beautiful outside seating that's surrounded by tiki torches Lemongrass offers. The price is a bit on the pricey side but that's normal for the islands I suppose. They also have live music which was nice and relaxing. Not sure why the bad review from others...my experience was a good one. Guess you can't please everyone. Highly recommend the mango piña coladas!

I was pleasantly surprised by my dining experience here after reading their inconsistent reviews. I really enjoyed my meal and was able to modify some of their dinner options to come up with some tasty and balanced vegetarian options. The ambiance is cozy and romantic, and our server was super friendly and easy to chat with. I would make a point to give them a try if you're on the fence.

Diner Beware - we selected Lemongrass for our farewell dinner after three weeks on the island. What a disappointment. The atmosphere was lovely and so the four of us expected a lovely dinner. I realized after the crabcake appitizer that we were in trouble. It was hard and had no flavor. We asked about the fish entrees only to learn that many of the fish were frozen. We selected two versions of a fresh fish - Ono - a seafood stew and scallops. The fresh fish for both dishes was overcooked and dry. The expensive seafood stew ( $27.00 ) tasted like it was made with campbell tomato soup. The scallops were also overcooked ( frozen not fresh )but the pesto made them passable. When I spoke with the manager/owner she remarked that she didn't eat fish when I invited her to sample my entree. She replaced two of our dishes that arrived at least thirty minutes after our guests had completed the meal. The owner did not apologize - offer a dessert - or waive the corkage fee.I own a timeshare in Kauai and come back every two years for a month. I would love this place to be good as it is so close to where I live - but unfortunately this place is plainly awful. By contrast we went tothe Beach House in Poipu two days before. While certainly pricey it was worth every dollar with a surpebly executed meal. Coincidentally we also had crab cakes and seafood soup - both surperb. Go elseware for a memorable evening of good food.

We had a great time at this place! We ordered Drunken Duck, scallop pasta, mahi mahi (catch of the day), and ribs. For its price, it is a big portion. Mahi mahi was good and unfortunately I couldn't finish the big two pieces they placed on my plate. The waitress was pleasant as well.

Food was okay. While the descriptions sounded interesting, reality was far from it (felt like basic dishes trumped up for toursits) and I wouldn't go back here. Dishes didn't come with sides that were advertised, and all had a pile of unappetizing and mushy vegetables underneath. Drinks were the only good part of the meal.

We all enjoyed our meal here very much We had a combination of seafood dishes and beef dishes and everyone was very happy. The beverage selection was very colorful. I loved my blue drink (Coco Palm was the name I think). This was our only hula pie experience and it was very good. The service was fantastic but the "live music" left a little to be desired. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

We were so disappointed by our dinner here tonight. Lemongrass was one the gastronomic high points of our trip here w/ daughter and granddaughter 2 1/2 years ago. See daughter's review of 12/14/07 for details. We were seated outside tonight, outside being essentially beside the busy and noisy Kuhio Highway. Add to that a shrieking child a couple of tables away and you get an idea of the ambiance. Service was flatout annoying. The waiter sped through his recitation of specials and drinks at breakneck speed and was barely comprehensible, most times disappearing before we could ask questions. We ordered calamari fritters, which were just 6 fried strips of calamari steak served over greens, w/ a wasabi aioli, overpriced at $10. Probably we should have ordered the seafood combination at $78 for two. That's what we had last time and our granddaughter has never forgotten it. But the roast chicken called to me and the sea bass called to my husband, so that's what we ordered. The fish was tender and tasty, the chicken just a little on the dry side, not enough to ruin it but it wasn't close to the best roast chicken I've had. The waiter ran by periodically to ask how things were, speeding off again before we were able to answer. Basically the meal we had wasn't worth the distance we had to drive to get there and back.

On our last night on Kauai my wife and I decided to go out for dinner. We just happened to see your restaraunt and stopped in. what a great idea that was. We were in and out in about 1/2 hour, the food was fantastic, my wife had the salad and chowder she loved loved the salad and the dressing was fantastic. I had the ribs and they were fall off the bone tender and the Bar B Q sauce was fantastic. We got out of there for under $40.00...

If this was in the S.F. Bay area, it would be a 2.5 or 3. But, in Kauai, this was the best food I've had all week. The Clam Chowder was delicious. I ordered the indian seafood curry mix, which wasn't all that great tasting, and had a smell that wasn't exactly appetizing. But, it was good tasting. It was strange that the crab shells had been so cooked that they wouldn't break. They would just bend around the cracker, making it very hard to open. My wife had the filet mignon, which she asked for well done, but came out medium to medium-rare. She sent it back, and they cooked it a bit more. The meat itself was very good. There was some cream sauce on it that took away from the meat though. The vegetables were good with it as well. The service was very good, close to the best we've seen in a week in Kauai.

DON'T DO IT!!!! Unless you want to eat in Bazaro Land. There, you have been warned! My hubby and I are vacationing from California - this is our first time in Hawaii. We decided to eat at this place because I was in the mood for seafood. This was the WORST hundred dollar dinner we have ever eaten - what a waste of time and money and STOMACH SPACE! Started off pretty good though the strange and bad lounge music in the front of the restaurant should have been the first warning sign ( a single old guy playing an electric piano with songs like rainbow connection and some other bad stuff). We were greeted warmly, seated and served drinks quickly and our order was taken promptly, good right? The second clue should have been when my husband was getting dripped on by the air conditioning unit on the wall across from him. The third clue we should have left should have been the lack of ambiance and strange decor but no, we hung in there thinking maybe this is just a fluke, maybe the food will be good. Then, Apps came and they were pretty good. Then we did the salad with local greens, pineapple and tomato - I'm like halfway through and what did i find? A spider on my tomato! YUCK! My husband is a "don't send it back cuz they will spit in our food" kind of guy so I complied and didn't make a fuss hoping that entrees would make up for the bug. We finished our drink and waited....and waited....and waited. Mind you - the strange piano music from the front is the only thing you here...Entrees finally came but not delivered by the waiter thus, we could not order another drink with our dinner. The dinner was not good - scallops were falling apart, calamari was clearly frozen fillets, my hubby's chicken was bland and there was SO much of it. We decided about 5 bites in that we could do this no longer and waited for our plates to be taken away by the bus boy who was re-setting the entire back dining room while our plates sat there with our napkins in them and us staring at him for about 5 minutes. We gave him our card and asked him to have the server ring it up so we could go. The server did not even come back!!! It was some random kitchen dude in a sweaty t-shirt who brought us our check! Just don't do it - if you're here in Kauai, you are here to enjoy and relax and be surrounded by good things - don't waste your time, energy or money!! BOOOOOO!!!!

if this is one of the best that Kauaii has to offer, you are better served by picking up a grab and go at the nearby safeway. the food was indescribably bad: my son had the spare ribs. they were nothing special. my daughter had the duck, over dry and floating in a sauce, as if it had been added at the last minute to make up for the duck itself. my husband had clam chowder (which had no discernible clams) and pork which was nealy burnt in places and dry, dry dry. I had lobster raviolis (too much cheese sauce) and a filet which was probably a rib eye (ie not like any filet I have ever seen) and came seared, not cooked at all in the center. I sent it back. it came back after the rest of my family was done eating - no better but now tasting of BBQ lighter. I sent it back again - came done enough ( I ordered medium) but so soaked in BBQ lighter it smelled across the room and was inedible. They comped the steak but that did nothing for my being ill the rest of the evening. avoid this one.

We went to this place on a last decision. We were going to get sushi but as we past the restaurant we decided to stop and look at the menu. We sat outside but it started to rain so we were promptly moved inside. Service: Our server was amazing. I wish I could remember his name to give him credit. He created a friendly and festive atmosphere. He was on top of everything and his suggestions for dishes was absolutely on point. (He's an older gentleman, working the evening of August 29th). We also chatted with manager working that night who was very friendly. Totally enjoyed the atmosphere!!! Food: The dinner rolls were hot and delicious.I ordered the Guava BBQ ribs which was out of this world. My wife ordered the Macadamia crusted Sea Bass which was equally amazing. My sister ordered the steak and shrimp which according to her was great! This is a MUST for us next time we're in Kauai.

The service was wonderful. This is a great place to take kids as The waitstaff were very attentive. There is no air conditioning inside. Outdoor seating is along the highway and the night we were there the Mosquitos were out in full force! The drinks were ok and the food was mediocre.

STAY AWAY!!! My husband and I walked out of this restaurant tonight after an aweful experience. We ordered a salad, soup of the day and roasted garlic potatoes to start. 2min after ordering the food came out. Warning sign!! The potatoes were mushy and luke warm at best. The $10 salad was a sorry excuse for spinach with canned pineapple and gross bacon (how can bacon taste bad?). The soup was cold so we sent it back politely and asked for hot soup. We watched as the chef took the soup behind a hidden part of the kitchen. It came back again 2min later (obviously they just microwaved it). We then watched 3 people individually in the kitchen pop their head out to look at us. I used to work in restaurants I know what that means...DO NOT EAT THE FOOD THEY JUST GAVE YOU, IT HAS BEEN F*CKED WITH. At this point we decided we definitely can't trust the food or anything else we order so we left. They didn't apologize or respond to us leaving, I doubt that's the first time that has happened to them. Worst food I've had not just on the island but EVER. The worst part is what they are trying to charge for microwaved gross food!! No legitimate chefs work here or they could not have let that food leave the kitchen.

The many other reviews nailed the macadamia nut crusted sea bass. Absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly and with a wonderful sauce, served over jasmine rice. The service is friendly and attentive, more professional than some local spots. They could use a better wine list, especially for by the glass. Same for draft beer choices. But, all in all it exceeded expectations.

Great service good food. Mac nut sea bass was excellent as was coconut shrimp. Only downfall was the proximity to Kuhio Highway.

Should have read the reviews before coming. Stopped by as we drove down the strip from our hotel. Seared scallops were first dipped in batter and then fried and then followed by an overdressing of garlic and pesto. Every bite of scallop disappeared in the taste of oil. My wife's steak and crab legs came out without the steak. Live music showed up an hour late and appeared to have problems with their electronics. Overall the experience was one I regret especially after walking away with a bill of $76

Interesting. Ascetically, the place is nice. Oddly, not crowded for a Friday night. Of course, I am talking about Kapaa. When we sat, service was quick and friendly. There was even live entertainment in the dining room. Then the food arrived and I clued in why there wasn't that many people there. I wouldn't say that the food was bad. It just wasn't remarkable. The chowder was good, you can tell by the ingredients that it was made on site. The Lemongrass Seafood Stew needs work. Not too flavorful, but I will say it was visually appealing.

We had a great experience here! We came for dinner our first full day in Kauai and I'm so glad we did. We were seated almost right away and they took our drink orders. Pretty soon after that we ordered our food. I had the macadamia crusted sea bass and my husband had the ribs. My fish was really delicious. It was well cooked, the sauce was wonderful and it came with a nice helping of rice. My husbands ribs however are the reason for the 5 stars. These were by far the best ribs either of us had ever had. The sauce was delicious, sweet but not over powering. The bones literally just slid out making them very easy to eat. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The drinks were yummy. We would absolutely come here again.

Just for us...this place is much better than yelp ratings. First the place itself is one of the nicest in kauai. Decor is great. Live music was excellent. Service was slow. Slow for waiter to get to us and 20 minutes for food to get to us. BUT...food was great. I had the grilled pork which was tender and really tasty. My wife just had a chicken Caesar but said the chicken was very good All in all I would definitely recommend this place

We found this lovely restaurant by accident, having driven away from our first choice for the evening when we were the only car in the parking lot at 8 pm. Our server, Ron, was very personable and professional. He had cocktail recommendations (they have some truly unique combinations) as well as dining ones. We shared a bowl of seafood chowder that was very good but a little salty for my taste. My dining partner didn't agree, so take my comment for what it is worth! We were served fresh warm rolls and butter one at a time which is a rare but nice touch. The spinach salad was beautiful, large and very fresh. The lobster ravioli was delicious and the macadamia nut encrusted sea bass (Ron ' s recommendation) rates 5 stars. Service was prompt but not rushed. I will try to post pictures of the sea bass and the spinach salad. We will return for sure.

The bread rolls were terrible. Cheap dinner rolls from the grocery store. They heat them really hot so they are soft. I ordered the vegetable yellow curry. The base of the curry was chicken bullion cubes and it tasted like an instant chicken ramen flavor seasoning packet. I don't understand why they are making the vegetables taste like chicken...

  • Jay S.

Not good. Ribs taste really strange. Crab cakes way over fried and little crab...soggy. No flavor. Seafood curry dish came out way too quick to be freshly prepared. Scallops had no char in them. A long way to go to really live up to the potential of a very cute place.

This place was really cute and busy on the night we went for dinner. Despite the full house, we were seated right away on the front patio. The decor inside and out is really cute. Service was friendly and prompt. The macadamia nut salad was delicious and I also liked my chicken dish. I could drink their Napali Cliffhanger all day long. My husband got the pesto scallops and loved them. The portions are plentiful. You probably can't really go wrong here with food or drinks. There is something for everyone.

Had dinner with some friends at lemongrass tonight. Finally found a restaurant that knows how to prepare scallops. We all enjoyed our meals and found the prices quite reasonable. I'd give it 5 stars but they need more comfortable chairs. Or at least cushions on them.

This was one of the cases where we risked trying out an establishment with 3 stars and came out very pleasantly surprised. We ordered the guava pork ribs - simply delicious, the meat was tender and the marination was perfect. My girl ordered the calcutta curry extra spicy - simply perfect! The service was exceptional. The owner even came out to greet us. This place deserves more stars.

  • Marissa K.

Couldn't be more satisfied! We got some yummy drinks to start and they brought some bread to us. May sound silly to brag about bread but it was a perfect roll! Then we split the ribs as an appetizer, which were to die for! The meat was falling off the bones and the flavor was crazy good. For our main dishes, we ordered two different curries. I had the "Calcutta" and I absolutely loved it. My husband got the "Gara Gara" and he said the peanut sauce was really good! Both curries had a mix of seafood which were cooked perfectly. I can't rave about the food enough! On top of all that, the customer service was great! They were attentive, friendly, and welcoming! They also have live music and there was a young violinist that played so beautifully. Such a wonderful experience! Can't wait to go back!

Great restaurant! I had a vegetarian dish that beautifully meshed Thai & Italian flavors together. Because they specialize in seafood, my son decided to try the snowcrab-stuffed shrimp. He loved it.

Since my husband is such a great chef, I have few opportunities to eat out. So when I do, it really has to be stellar. Unfortunately, this place fell a little short of my expectations. Perhaps it was because we ate so early on the day we dined here, and did not get to experience the full effect of the restaurant, although eating early does have it's advantages. We had the place basically to ourselves. Great customer service is always important to me as I have been in the service industry for most of my career. It pains me when I clearly see it not happening. But that was not the case here at the Lemongrass Grill Seafood & Bar. We were warmly greeted by Dave, who provided us with top notch and attentive service. With the dark woods, open windows outdoor seating and eclectic Asian decor, the restaurant offers a relaxing atmosphere that is not pretentious in the least. After all, it is the island of Kauai. Starting us off, we ordered the Island Crab Cake and Hoisin Charred Ribs for appetizers. I must say, the crab cakes were some of of the best I've ever had and the ribs weren't bad either. The rest of the meal was, I am sorry to say, not as good. Each of our seafood entrees, were flavorless, overcooked and dry. In addition, my fish breading and potatoes were greasy. Highly disappointing since this is a seafood establishment. It was really a shame. Should have just had the crab cakes and delicious bread and called it a night.

    (2)
  • Melvon M.

I ordered the barbecue pork with rice. It smell funny and taste too salty. The 2 slice of cucumber and a tiny cabbage is covered with sour tasting sauce. So far off from any standard Asian foods.

  • Liza L.

Good ambience, great service. Overpriced for what you get. I only order the soup of the day, seafood chowder...overwhelmed by a herb, salt & onions. Most plates $20 & up $9 cocktails. I wouldn't come back sorry just being honest. L.L.

Fabulous food...we opted for the lobster ravioli & crab cakes. The Happy Hour cocktails are great guava or Mango Mai Tai & chicken with coconut sauce = Heaven!! Moon is the bartender and makes great drinks. Thanks Noelle & Molly (aka Hillsboro)!

BEWARE!!!! My husband and I got food poisoning from this restaurant. We both had the crab cakes to start. My husband had catch of the day, and I had a scalloped fettuccine dish. I ate several bites from his plate and we both got extremely sick, wound up in the E.R. on are vacation : ( Not fun

Nice atmosphere, great piano player/singer, however food was not impressive. Drinks are strong, but not flavorful. Never get the appetizers waste of money. Very shy with veggie sides, plain, no hills kinda place

If I go to back to Kauai, this is definitely one of my top choices for dining! We had approximately 75 people in a privately catered dinner at the restaurant. The service was friendly and excellent. And the food was AMAZING! They had made a few adaptations to some of their dishes for the evening, but every single thing I ate that night was soooooooooooooo delicious. The appetizers that were served were a sauteed mushroom and garlic dish, and mini crab cakes. The dinner included a peanut buttery red curry with noodles, a chicken and vegetable red curry, some type of amazing chicken, and a macademia encrusted mahi mahi. Truly enjoyed the meal . . . my favorite meal during our stay!

10 yr anniversary dinner part 2, party of 6, yes please! No reservations, everything was WONDERFUL! The staff were polite and professional, offering recommendations on request, they were attentive and service was fantastic! Everyone's meal was delicious and exactly as ordered, we had one small temperature issue, and when brought to waiters attention it was not question, it was handled respectfully and quickly! Our guests, and I, we're very happy with Lemongrass and would definitely recommend!

My family group of 12 ate dinner at this restaurant on 6/20/14 based on previous poster's recommendations and were not disappointed! The services was fantastic and the ambience was exactly what we wanted for our first meal in Hawaii. We were seated at a long table just past the bar area - there was a great breeze blowing and the restaurant has many lush tropical plants around giving our table a secluded feel. We all started off with one of the many specialty drinks and all were delicious. My husband and I split the salad with spicy Thai dressing - very yummy! Most of us got the coconut shrimp - which were excellent! My husband got the guava ribs - which we all tasted and loved. There is a kids menu and they serve a yummy freshly made fruit punch for local fruits which was very tasty! I recommend this place, especially if you are staying in Kapa'a! Forgot to mention my brother ordered the Macadamia crusted sea bass and it was out of this world!!! If I ever get back to Kapa'a...I would order this next time!

We opted for this place on our last evening on the island , since it was near by. The decor was nice and we were greeted immediately . However once seated it took some time to meet our waiter , then to get our cocktails (the bar was backed up) . Finally got it and he placed our order , the waiter didn't take any time to explain any dishes . Husband chose coconut shrimp and thought it was great . I chose the shrimp scampi and was a little disappointed , there was a good portion of shrimp but a small portion of noodles . The fish was filled in with an assortment of cooked vegetables . (I am not a fan of cooked vegetables ) the scampi was lacking flavor. I ordered a second drink and it never came , the waiter finally came back and stated he forgot . He did comp my first drink for the mistake . I think they have something going for them , their menu is a big one - but they may need to scale it down to get more flavor and then again need some customer service upgrade .

We tried Lemongrass because it was near where we were staying. We had the best service we have had in Kauai at this restaurant. They had live music when we were there on a Friday night. The coconut shrimp was very good but really hard to choose because they had so many yummy choices.

Enjoyed dinner last night here. Same as it was 5 years ago. We had 4 servings of seafood and they were all great. Outdoor seating was pleasant. My favorite was the steamed sea bass with soy, sesame oil and ginger. Staff was courteous and service prompt. Live music in the background added to the pleasures of dining.

A pretty good dinner. The restaurant itself was nice and really much larger than you'd expect. We were promptly greeted and sat in the outside patio which was actually really nice and pretty. There was an older lady playing traditional Hawaiian songs which was kinda of cool for the local vibe. Our server seemed sort of busy like maybe he had too many tables but he was very personable and friendly. The rest of the serve staff were nice, friendly and really prompt. We shared the lemongrass salad. It's actually the perfect size for a single person, not huge, but it was very good. The dressing was light and refreshing. I had the guava ribs with potatoes. The ribs were a little dry but good. I wish they'd used more of the guava sauce and the bbq sauce wasn't anything special but overall they were still good. Lots of meat on the ribs. My girl had the macadamia nut crusted seabass which was awesome. It came with some really nicely cooked zucchini. The fish was tasty and had a nice thin crunchy coating of macadamia nut. It also had a nice honey mustard sauce or something similar. Our friend had the shrimp scampi. Nice big pieces of shrimp but instead of the usual butter and oil only sauce it had a bit of a light cream added. Maybe coconut? Good place for dinner on the island at a reasonable price. We paid about $20 per. Definitely get the seabass.

Got the catch of the day. Ahi was fine but sides on the very old side. I probably could have asked for rice - servers were very attentive.

What a great little island gem we found just by looking at reviews. Great menu and the food lives up to expectations. Our server was friendly, prompt and efficient. The bread was terrific and so were our meals. the wine list was very affordable for Hawaii and had many choices. My wife had the stuffed shrimp and I had to sea bass -- both cooked to perfection.

I would give zero if possible. This was the worst dining experience of any I have ever had in 4 years on Kauai. Food was blah, poor quality, service was terrible. We had to ask for even a salt & pepper shaker. My companion left steak & lobster on his plate uneaten...I left my steak. It was that bad. Never ever again!!! The crab cakes were the worst ever just plain dough balls with a ever so faint of crab like taste, spring rolls were completely unedible.

Creative drinks! NY Steak was good and the Scallops were great. We loved the vegetables and the Calamari Fritters with their Anoli sauce was a wonderful starter.

I can't go 5 stars, but they deserve more than 3. We both enjoyed our meals (dinner), the service was EXCELLENT. It was a little odd to have the manager constantly hovering at our table (literally he asked us how everything was at least 5 times). I DO like when the managers check in, but this felt like something was amiss. It's a really cute decor, rustic almost, with a back seating area as well. The food was good, though felt a little bit contrived - I can't completely explain it, I'd just say it's something I could have easily made myself, but I'm really glad I didn't have to. The price was consistent with Kapaa - and like i said, I didn't mind because the service was really stellar.

My coconut shrimp were amazing (make sure to ask for an extra side of the coconut sauce) but I had to take away a star for my husband's watery/bland seafood yellow curry . Service was good and the live music was a nice added bonus :)

We went on July 12, 2014 right when they opened. The service was rushed and there was no rapport or description of the food. The food itself was horrible. The pork appetizer was greasy and tough. The stuffed shrimp were tiny shrimp and a bland hollandaise was poured on top. My daughters steak was over cooked and chewy. My husband could not eat his ribs. We left after paying $130 and ordered pizza.

The activities team at our hotel suggested this place but it was 100% worth it. If you come to Kuau'i you absolutely have to try it. The mango Mai Tais & coconut cream pie are amazing. I had the Hawaiian BBQ ribs for dinner and my friend had the Macadamia Nut crusted Sea Bass, also amazing. The atmosphere is causal but fun, great live music and very friendly staff. Highly recommend!

When you spend longer than a week in Kauai, you start to run out of places to eat. I are at Lemongrass on a Sunday night with a visiting family member. Pretty cool outside patio, entertainment drowned out the sound of traffic. The food. I ordered the guava Ribs, and they were better than I thought they would be. For Kauai, they were better than most places. Sweet Tangy guava BBQ sauce basted over what I thought was baked, ribs. They had a solid flavor while the meat was falling off the bone. It was an average of $20 a plate which seemed to be about right for what we got. If you're from LA, you might be happier with Taco Bell or Pizza Hut, but if you're from the Midwest, this place is a decent meal. P.S. I'm pretty sure the rolls are from Costco.

I wish there was a section where we could rate the service separately from the food but there is not so 1/2 of 5 is 2.5 but I can not split a star or a hair so we will have to go with a 3 only because of the exceptional service. With that being said..... What is with the wayyy over done Mahi mahi? To the point of almost being on the tough side? And what is up with the white cream sauce on everything from my oysters ( by the way why did you cook them and then pour that stuff on them) to the mahi mahi The presentation was nice but really the meal was essentially tasteless No salt on the table - I wanted some really bad which I thought was funny because there were capers on my plate and I could not even taste them..... If I was paying I would have sent it all back - which I never do - but I wasn't and I was not about to be that rude as I was the guest with people who where ordering and being gracious. Given the choice - I won't go back.

I noticed that this restaurant didn't have the best reviews, but my husband and I had a great experience here. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered drinks that were delicious. Not too strong, but with enough kick to relax us for the evening. As far as food goes, I ordered the ribs in the guava bbq sauce - nothing short of amazing. The meat was literally falling off the bones and the sauce was an amazing mix of sweet and tangy. I almost gobbled up the entire plate had my husband not been interested in trying it. He ordered the macadamia nut crusted sea bass - also delicious. We saved our leftovers and had them the next day and were still just as satisfied.

Great food, my husband ordered the lobster and steak, I ordered the steam fish, it was great and the fish had ginger and other flavors. It was incredible. My son got the chicken wings it was not as good. Service was ok, we waited a little bit to get our food , but overall it's one of the few good restaurant int the area. Loved it!!!

I'm not sure why Lemongrass has such a low rating- the food was excellent! The service was a little slow, but they made up for it mostly by being so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and specials. The food was by far the best of the trip! I had the macadamia nut sea bass, and my mother had the stuffed shrimp. We shared a bowl of seafood chowder, which was amazing!

I found myself at the Lemongrass Grill Seafood & Bar my first night on the island after 14 hours of traveling. I rate this place a 3-star because I am very careful about my diet and cannot eat carbs - after explaining this to the hostess when trying to place my order to go, I asked if I could substitute a small side salad in place of potatoes. She went and asked a server who said there are no substitutions. so she put in an order for appetizer ribs with stir fried veggies (which was a small handful of baby bok choy). It was just ok, the ribs were not real meaty and the boy choy in the box watered everything down and tasted very bitter. I probably should have ordered the meal I wanted and threw away the potatoes, but I didn't want to be wasteful. On an island full of produce, I wish restaurants would tap into that and offer low carb alternatives for those with dietary needs. Service was extremely fast. There was a guitar player offering great island music to listen to while I waited. I would try this restaurant again and give them a second chance. Maybe give it a higher rating if I have a better experience.

Pretty decent food and good service. We enjoyed our curry dishes as we sat in their outside dining area. I would place this somewhere in the middle to lower satisfaction ranking for the places we ate at on the island.

This place deserves a MUCH higher rating! This was the best dinner we had on the island! The ambiance was so nice and calm. There was a live musician playing and he was very soothing. The service was great. Everyone was friendly and our server, Ronald was very nice and knowledgable about the menu. We started with the Spinach Salad which had pineapple and a citrus dressing. AMAZING! My husband ordered the steak and shrimp scampi. Everything was delicious especially the shrimp!!!! The garlic cream sauce was the best scampi sauce I have ever had (I'm a shrimp lover). I ordered the Alaskan King Crab and it was perfectly cooked and precut which made it easy to eat! We finished our romantic evening with the Hula Pie and ate every last piece!!! It was the perfect end to our trip! If we ever come back to Kauai, we will be paying another visit to The Lemongrass Grill!

I have never been to a place that so perfectly fit a three. Normally there is some degree of considerations. "Well the food.." "But the server was really..." None of that. This is as three as a place could get. First the negatives. As soon as you walk in you are taken back to 1960s Hawaii. The decor is so outdated I expected an aging Elvis Presley to walk out and offer a round of drinks for the 13 people not working there. There was a guy with a guitar that could not play half the songs he claimed to. That being said he was an adorable old man but not a guy you wanted to have making it difficult to hear your server. The server was barely there and when she was she was awkward. I ordered the five spice prime rib. Unfortunately for me they were out of it and our server didn't know when she took the order. I've done every job in a restaurant and I know miscommunications happen like that. However if the solution you come up with is to say "oh I haven't been here since Monday and they didn't tell me" well then I'm not interested. Just inform me the kitchen ran out and help me pick something else out. Finally the drinks were not flavorful. My dad had the original Mai tai and I had a guava flavor. Both drinks were flavorless and disappointing. On to the good stuff. The food was actually really good. The prices were a bit higher than I would have liked but when you're in Hawaii... I ordered the grilled pork with a Vietnamese vinaigrette. It was delicious. I wish there was more of it cus I just shoved it all in my mouth. The sauce was phenomenal. The bus boy was truly a better server than our server. There aren't many tables in the place so i don't get how our server could be that busy. But there the bus boy was; refilling drinks, clearing plates, and getting bread. I put this in the good half cus that kid deserves a raise. He was everywhere.

Great service. We ordered food for the kids in our group and the waiter brought it out early for him, which was greatly appreciated. The drinks were outstanding! Tasted very fresh and great variety. The food was good but not outstanding. The fish and salads were the best in our party.

Service- minimal yet friendly. Decor- cute. intimate outdoor patio seating. kitschy indoor seating. Atmosphere- lovely. live musician was a nice touch. Food- macadamia nut salad, mmm. Curry with crab legs, calamari, shrimp, and scallops dish was pretty bland. *I'd recommend passing on this restaurant and try elsewhere.

We are here 4 years ago on our first trip to Kauai, and it was excellent! This time was not as good. I had the Drunken Duck. The meat was tough, unusual since duck usually falls off the bone when cooked properly. The hubby had Gara Gara curry, which he enjoyed. Our friends had the stuffed shrimp ( he mentioned that you couldn't taste the crab) and the shrimp scampi, which he seemed to enjoy. It was okay food, the service was excellent. I just remember the food being much better here. Oh well....

I live on the island and mistakenly avoided this restaurant for 4 years thinking it was a "tourist trap". I couldnt have been more wrong. The service, food, and bar were all excellent. I had the prime rib and it was perfectly cooked (medium RARE) and portioned. Also, it wasnt all extremely ribboned with fat. The owner came out and said hello to our table and brought us out a special appetizer he made for us and was very appreciative of our business. We had a great experience here and will definitely bring our visiting friends back there again.

The only reason this place is getting two stars is because the service was very good. Other than that, this place was HORRIBLE. My wife ordered the soup of the day, which was a seafood chowder. If the meat in it wasn't chicken, then they fooled us. The texture and taste was just like chicken. Then we had the stuffed shrimp, and no exaggeration, it tasted just like a McDonald's cheeseburger. The drunken duck was mostly grisle, fat and bones. It wasn't very flavorful either. It might have also gotten three stars if it weren't for the prices. A total rip off.

Dinner of 5, no one was happy with their meal. Prices were high, but all prices are high in HI, so I am not counting that against them. I ate the mixed seafood red curry, which included very little seafood, but in there, the "calamari steak" was gross, slimy in the center, I am not sure if it was old, but it was disgusting. I have chills just thinking about the food there. Surprised I did not get sick. The red curry paste was not bad. Most of our dishes had shrimp, and they were bland. Two of our party had the "seared scallops" with pasta, and the scallops were 100% white, as if they were boiled, but NOT SEARED. They should be golden on both sides. Very disappointed, had seen good reviews and ratings, but this place is NOT GOOD. EXPENSIVE. and the interior is tacky (look at the water pond outside patio). If you chose to eat outside, you're 6 feet from the road, so very noisy and LOUD. AVOID.

One of the biggest things that stuck out to me was the ambiance. It just felt remarkably "islandy" (if that's not a word, then it should be) in its decor and was quite relaxing. I've seen a few reviews bashing the live entertainment, but the singer on my evening was quite pleasant, and added to the good mood. The food itself is quite good. I had seafood chowder, and an ahi entree. It was a well done meal. Not the absolute best I've ever had, but it was still presented well, and was flavorful overall. The service was also very prompt, efficient, and overall just very friendly and conversational. I had a good time during my stay. I was having a good night, and my dining experience did nothing to upset that balance. I would definitely make my return if I find my way back to Kauai one day.

This was the most disappointing dining experience during our time in Kauai. It was featured on the cover of one of the local food magazines so we assumed Lemongrass would be a great place to dine after a day at the beach and was close to where we were staying in Kapa'a. The ambiance is very good but the food and service were disappointing, especially considering we spent over a $100. Here is what we ordered: APPETIZERS: ------------------- ISLAND CRAB CAKE - snow crab mixture lightly browned afloat a thin pool of wasabi aioli and pineapple salsa (Average- particularly since we had delicious crab cakes at Tidepools the day before) HOISON CHARRED RIBS - Hoisin charred baby back ribs caramelized to a tender, tangy finish accompanied by crisp island greens vinaigrette. (Very good) ENTREES: --------------- CATCH OF THE DAY - the wife ordered this. (Mediocre. It had no flavor. I noticed other reviewers had similar experiences) WAILUA CHICKEN - Panko parmesan crusted chicken breast with a light honey buerre blanc sauce accented with mushrooms, tomatoes and tangy capers. I ordered this dish. (Awful. Sounds absolutely scrumptious when you read the description, doesn't it? Don't be fooled. This was a totally insipid dish with no seasoning whatsoever.) DESSERT: --------------- HULA PIE - misrepresented as a pie, this dessert was unsatisfactory. The server made it sound like this was a cake/pie with a layer of ice cream on top of it. Instead, it was just a big slab of ice cream. Service: I told the server that the Wailua Chicken had no flavor, not even salt. She didn't even wait for me to finish, and brushed it off by saying "it's always easier to add seasoning later". Ok, so what are you going to do about it? Am I expected to add seasoning at a later time? Overall, Lemongrass Grill is over-priced for uninspired, inferior food and poor service. Avoid it if you can. Don't be misled by the appearance and decor of the place.

Not no, but heck no. Our one night out without the kids...wish we'd used Yelp first. Outside decor attracted us to the place. That combined with bad traffic, helped us decide. Decor of exposed beams with lots of statues of Buddha was appealing, but once inside the three or four strings of cheesy Christmas garland and ornaments covering the statues was a bit too much. Menu sounded wonderful so decided to order the seafood medley for two so that we could get a variety. I think the dinner rolls were from a bag. Giant scallops were decent but not giant. Shrimp was chewy due to being overcooked. Catch of the day (mahi mahi) was bland with a strong taste of char. Spiny lobster was overcooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside. All of this was placed on top of a bed of cut up potatoes and then drowned in grease. Could have spooned it up. Dish also had a large portion of plain lettuce...decoration? Was in decent condition, so asked for a dressing...waitress brought out a really good basil vinaigrette, although bottom layer was in the greasy mess. Live music was decent. Solo guy playing guitar. One of the few highlights. Total cost, without appetizer or desert, 1 glass of wine, 1 Pepsi was $90.

I stopped by without reading the Yelp reviews and glad I didn't as I would avoid anything less than 4 stars. The Lemongrass Grill was really good. The service was excellent and they were flexible with how we ordered our dishes. All four of our orders were delicious. Good size portions and very reasonably priced for Kaua'i. Most fish was priced at $24. Next time I am in Kapaa I would stop by again.

Slightly expensive, but my crab-stuffed sea bass was delicious. Husband and I ate outside and I enjoyed the ambiance while on our honeymoon. Great live music that night too that also helped to set the mood. Be sure to visit with the bartender (we didn't get his name!) but he has a wealth of knowledge about Kauai and we really enjoyed talking to him.

This was the 3rd restaurant my family and I went to our last night on Kauai. The other two couldn't seat us and their menu just wasn't,I'd friendly..so we tried Lemongrass. What a great experience! I went in before we parked, and my family knew it would be fine when I gave the waitress a little hug! The food was great, the price reasonable and the service was attentive and quick! Will definitely go back next time we visit paradise!

My family went here for dinner. The food was not bad but not great. Nothing special. Service was vaguely friendly but more apathetic. Can't remember even one smile, even from the hostess. Music was too loud in the main dining area.

Horrible food quality. My son ordered "catch of the day" and the ahi - which I figured would be a good bet, had already turned. I tasted it to be sure - and I immediately spit it out of my mouth. It was that bad. Catch of the day, what a joke. They must have caught it a year ago. It wasn't cheap either. So I made him order a replacement dish which was a bad idea. We should have just walked out. Stuffed shrimp - it was mediocre - but at least it was not gross. I ordered a salad and I figured that was a safe bet - but they wrecked it by putting too much sugar in their dressing. Whoever cooks for them must really hate food because if this is their best work, I'm totally appalled.

Let's start with this: The reviews for this place are all over the board and I think it's mainly because it's frequented by tourists and everyone has a different expectation for what a restaurant and its food should or shouldn't be. With that said, my wife and I (along with our 15 month old son) decided to give this place a try on a Sunday evening. We had a reservation for 6PM but we showed up a half hour early and they seated us early without an issue. The menu was pretty big, but my wife and I both settled on the catch of the day (Ahi Tuna) in two different preparations. Both dishes were extremely good. We ordered some fried rice as a side (and for our son) and we remarked at how good it was. The rice was extremely flavorful, light, and not greasy. They had some local Kauai beers on tap and those were just fine with us. We ordered hula pie for dessert and the huge slice disappeared in a hurry. Service-wise, I couldn't complain much. The bar service was a bit slow, but our server had quite a few tables to manage. She did as good of a job as she could, but it was obvious that she was rushing around to get everyone taken care of. Why not five stars? The prices were a little steep in some areas (the Ahi was reasonable) and the bar service was too slow. If I could give this place a 4.5 out of 5, I would.

Been to the island many times, but had not tried this restaurant before. I'm glad I finally made the correct decision. We were seated promptly, but not in a quiet location. The hostess seated us in the room with the live entertainment, which I was not a huge fan of. We asked and were reseated in their back room. A much nicer location and much quieter. The service was fast and efficient. Ronald, our waiter was quick to introduce himself and take our drink orders. The bartender was very good and handled the order perfectly. We had Calamari Fritters for an appetizer. It was very tender and tasty. Our entrées were Wailua Chicken and Calcutta Seafood Mix, which were both very good. We found a 15 % discount in a local magazine, which made it all the better. Drinks, appetizers, entrées and a bottle of wine and we still stayed under $100.00. I consider that a good deal! This will definitely be a place to come back to, especially if we can get seated in the back room again.

is it possible to give a negative points? first, a faux pas was that ALL OF THEIR FOOD were precooked. seriously need chef ramsey to come rescue them. definitely a Kitchen Nightmare episode. my hubz ordered their catch of the day, ono... long john silvers would have been better. one filet was raw while the other was cooked. my prime rib was already cooked and god knows how long it sat under the heat lamp. anyway, i asked for medium rare and got nasty overdone. heres the kicker, my hubz told the server how terrible it was and they apologized. i think this happens alot. anyway, if you want to ruin a nice day in kauai go here... if not go to any fast food joint. gah.. i could have eaten the dang chickens on the street and they would taste better. UPDATE: i freggin got a good case of food poisoning from this joint. ridiculous!!!

Very freindly service. Me and family walked into place not really sure it was for us. The staff there took the time to explain the menu to us and even told us there was no hard feelings if we wanted to leave. Had the mango coladas which were really good. Everyone at table had either seafood or steak and all seemed to be content with their food. Only knock is the price but everything here on the islands is too expensive.

Overpriced and disgusting. Took two bites of my stuffed shrimp and asked for the check. The crab stuffed in the shrimp was so fishy I could smell it being prepared from my table beside the windows. The shrimp itself resembled rubber in texture and required way too much chewing to be appealing. I told the waiter how unimpressed I was with the meal and got the check only after receiving our food 3 minutes earlier and to my surprise he did nothing to accommodate me for the meal I clearly did not eat. Paid $28 for half a shrimp. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Skip this place. You'd be better off at McDonalds.

Hub's friend recommended we give Lemongrass a try during our trip to Kauai and despite the mixed reviews, we dined here on our last night on the island. I figured that it must be a hit or miss kinda place, but it was within walking distance to our condo and we had already started in on the cocktails so it sounded like a reasonable choice. We were promptly seated upstairs by some open windows...very islandy. The hostess forgot to give us menus so we sat there for a while and had to ask for menus. The waiter was visibly annoyed by the hostess' inatttentiveness and was very apologetic so no worries. We ordered the wasabi crabcakes to start. The order consisted of two crabcakes which were not the biggest crabcakes I'd ever seen, but what they lacked in size, they made up for in flavor. I particularly liked the spicy wasabi sauce that seemed to have a touch of honey to balance the heat. Two thumbs up. Next, we had the macadamia salad. It had mixed greens and a yummy papaya dijon dressing. Didn't skimp on the macadamia nuts and the fresh pineapple on top made the whole salad. Could maybe have used a little more pineapple, we are in Hawaii after all. Our entrees were the macadamia crusted sea bass served with rice and mixed vegetables (bok choy...my favorite...YAY!) and the grilled fish of the day which was mahi mahi. Both fish plates were very good. We eat mahi all the time at home, so I was kinda hoping for a different fish, but it was all very good. The side dishes, rice and potatoes, were not very inventive, but the fish was definitely up there. In all, we would definitely go back. Decor is a little dated and it could use a little sprucing up, but the food was some of the best we had on the island. The live music guy was pretty good too!

No menu in the lobby of your hotel is not a good sign. We ordered hoisin ribs, lobster Ravioli, crab cakes, ceaser salads and a Macadamia nut salad. The ribs lacked flavor. The ravioli werent very good at good at all. I'm not sure it was actually Lobster in the sauce. The crab tasted like canned crab and It was mushey in the middle. The ceaser salad was terrible. The lettuce was drenched in water, the dressing was sweet and chunky :(. The chicken tasted like charcoal and like fish. The macadamia nut salad was the best part of the night. Don't go here!

The food was hit and miss. My "mixed seafood" was good but my wife's "seafood stew" was uninspired. Very similar dishes but very different in quality. Unfortunately that was not the issue . . . A mystery drink was added to our bill. It could have been a mistake but we only had a bottle of wine. How does a "Blue Hawaiian" end up on the bill? The server seemed a little off, In my opinion, it was not a mistake. IF you eat here, pay attention to your bill!

Great place for a drink, terrific ambiance, friendly staff, fun live music...but skip the meal. My most recent experience was a surf & turf that was just beyond terrible. Couldn't cut the turf, and the surf was cold. We were the first dinner seating, so maybe the kitchen wasn't up and running yet. I'll give it one more try, but there are certainly enough local restaurants to choose from for a good meal.

Not good. Pretty bad actually. Live music, my $5 wine, and my husband making me laugh were really the only good parts about this place. Overall - the decor and ambiance is set nicely, but the food was poor, and I never say that. We went there for our last night on our honeymoon, and we felt like we wasted our money completely. We didn't even have a high expectation for dinner, just wanted a nice meal. My husband's mahi mahi was way overcooked and the skin was left on. I ordered the seafood chowder, which was fine, but it was filled with enormous chuncks of potato rather than seafood. After I finished the soup, our main dishes were brought out and my husband politely asked where his mashed potatoes were that he ordered. The server said "oh, we're out of potatoes." Maybe it would've been good to tell us that when we ordered them? My $15 plate of stemed veggies sounded delicious, but looked more like a pathetic side salad that was cold and depressing. We were sad, but just decided to finish our drinks, pay our bill and leave.

First of all, the quality of the food was excellent. But two of us had the scallops, and although they were big and plump, the pan was obviously not hot enough to sear them! The potatoes and vegetables were delicious, tho. My husband had the pasta and his sauce was very strange. Our friend had some fried fish appetizer that had a very thick coating and the Lemongrass salad was very ordinary. Overall, I would say, "Skip this joint."

Poor service. Had to ask for a drinks and water, didn't clear our plates. Plates were still there as we left Food was just OK. Guitar player was nice to listen to. First time here, going to give it another chance this weekend.

This was one of my more memorable meals in Kauai during a week long vacation. I was concerned about some of the low reviews this place got on Yelp, but decided to go anyway. My husband and I enjoyed the live music, romantic ambience (we sat out side next to one of the water sculpture fountains), extensive drink and dining menu. My husband had a delicious fish meal, and my only complaint was my meal had a little too much sauce. I generally do not like a lot of sauce because I watch my calories, but other than that, it was delicious. My husband and I thought the drink selection was similar to Thai restaurants in Germany... lots of cocktails to choose from! I would eat here again!

Stopped with my wife after a long day in the car. First, the positives - the appetizers were spot on. Had the ribs (great flavor n meat fell off the bone), and the lobster ravioli (rich cream sauce and more lobster than I expected). The person that was in charge of re-filling our water glasses was great. Now the negatives - my wife's filet, ordered mid-rare, was still mooing. After 5 minutes of waiting for our server to arrive, I had to track him down to get it fixed. My scallops were nowhere near seared, and the sauce for my mushroom/scallop dish was predominantly water-based. Would return for certain items but would be nervous to try something different.

I'm really not sure why there is such a huge range in ratings for this restaurant. This was an excellent experience all around. The ambiance is very nice and cozy. There was an acoustic guitar player/singer for entertainment as well. I had the macadamia nut salad and the guava BBQ ribs. My husband had the Kailuea salad and the macadamia nut sea bass. We were both extremely happy with our food. The portions were large enough that we both took away leftovers. The service was excellent and attentive. The macadamia nut salad was served with a chili peanut dressing that was out of this world. It was a little on the spicy side but it went perfectly with the greens, pineapple, onions and cucumbers. The BBQ ribs were so tender that the meat fell off the bone easily. It was served with roasted potatoes. Quite tasty. I tried a bit of my husband's sea bass and it was very light and seasoned delicately. Overall, just an excellent experience and I will definitely come here again on my next trip to Kauai, which I hope is very soon! I may not ever leave. :-)

Our family ate here and while the ambience and service was pleasant, the food was disappointing. The only great entree was the Tempura Ono. The seared scallops tasted old and the mahi mahi had a heavy creme sauce that ruined the delicate flavor. The hoisin ribs were okay but nothing like Roys. A fly flew into my wine glass and one kid got her soda late. They were out of chocolate ice cream. The live singer guitar player was pleasant.

I should have Yelped this place before coming here, but as we drove by we thought it was a thai food place, by the name & decor. We were duped...They call themselves fusion, but it felt like a Denny's. The menu had everything from pasta to steak, which had nothing 'fusion' about it. The only thing 'asian' influence was the curry, which was runny. The prices are over-priced for the food and service you get. The server was not quite helpful with menu choices either. Would not come here again....Go somewhere else!!

hmm... Probably one of the worst places I'd ever been to, and that's factoring in service, ambiance, food. Lobster ravioli, while pretty good, was almost cold (little cooler than lukewarm). I thought, hey maybe it was meant to be that way. Fine. Next. The salad... I don't really remember, but I am a salad eater and I asked if it was a large portion. I was told yes, but when we got it I didn't even want to split my half with my date lol... My duck surprisingly came out done very well, although it didn't look very good, as in, presentation. His surf and turf, a steak and lobster tail plate, had absolutely no taste even with my bland preferences. It was charred and dried. There were no place settings, no garnishes, not even a little vase with a fresh flower. It just didn't look good. It was like walking into an L&L and sitting down at the table. That's how plain it was. Worse yet, the tables were just old and looked sticky. We were very patient customers because we were just enjoying each other being on another island. We also had a glass of wine before getting there, so everything was chill. Unfortunately, they couldn't even match up to those lowered standards... Our server was "cool" but we think she was an alcoholic or past drug user. And she was gone for long period of time. It just took such a long time for them to do everything. The bread guys weren't smiley or enthusiastic, and they just didn't have enough help. It's one thing to be busy and overwhelmed but you can still keep your composure and at least continue to be apologetic, or develop some type of rapport with the waiting customers. I blame it all on poor management. The owner/manager should not have allowed that many customers to be seated. It should have stopped at the hostess where she either turns away customers or lets them know that it would be a wait. That way, this allows the servers to service their customers and the cooks to keep up with the orders. Close off a section! There's a reason you're accepting reservations. You can turn them away if they don't have one... They were so busy. We felt bad for them all and ultimately blamed all the mishaps to bad management. Poor thing, in our section alone (maybe we were unlucky) our meal, though difficult to swallow, was absolutely RUINED by the rude surrounding customers. One couple was older, seated after us, and complained about everything. Then towards the end of our meal, another table of two complained... It was just horrible for the rest of us who were there trying to get through a disaster. I mean, I guess I can't blame them, but they didn't have to ruin it for everyone else. I would definitely go back. It's unfair to base whether you like a place or not on only one experience. I need to know for sure. I can't imagine a place that's got front cover on a local restaurant magazine, lauded by so many, and still open to be as terrible as I'd experienced. One more time, and then I'll let you know.

We were looking for a great place to have dinner that offered live music and we found it at Lemongrass!! Hubs and I shared the seafood platter and not only was it incredibly reasonable in price, it was delish! We were in Kauai for our honeymoon and this was a great dinner treat to celebrate. Great eats, great drinks, great service!

Pricey place, but great service, wonderful seafood and top notch adult beverages. My daughter still talks about this place and the mixed seafood grill she got (the kid's portion was HUGE). We will be back here next time we go to Kauai (hint, hint!!)

This place can not figure it's self out if it was Asian or Western. Some times crossing over can back fire on you.

Lemongrass Grill Seafood & Sushi Bar is a fairly newer establishment in the quaint little town of Kapa`a. The usual hotspot for sushi here is local favorite Kintaro's, but to be quite honest, I liked the sushi from Lemongrass a lot better (sorry Kintaro fans!). Editor's Note: It was recently reported that Lemongrass Grill no longer serves sushi. I called them and they confirmed this. If anyone knows why, please use the Comment Field below to discuss. With a menu that hinted towards influences from Japan (sushi) and Italy (pasta), the main theme (including restaurant design) was definitely Thai. On this occasion, we started with the Asian Marinated Chicken Satay for our appetizer, and threw in a couple of sushi handrolls - the Volcano Roll (masago & katsuo bushi on a California roll with a special spicy sauce) and the Spider Roll (deep fried soft shell crab with cucumber) - for good measure. We then moved on to our main dishes of Guava Glazed BBQ Ribs and Sauteed Shrimp with Penne Pasta. Read my complete Kau Kau Kauai article (with photos) here: world-wide-ed.com/2006/0…

Wonderful place. Amazing ambiance. Live music. Friendly staff. Food was off the hook, I had the pork ribs that fell off the bone, wifey had the yellow curry. This place is a must to eat at while your visiting this enchanted island. Stay hi.

We ordered baked clams and shrimps for appetizers, horrible, did not even finish the oysters. Did not taste fresh at all. Just trust me, don't even try it even if they are giving you at half price.the main dish was horrible as well. Never finished the meal.

We ordered the baby back ribs for the appetizer and tried the red curry for the entrée. The food was not good. The ribs were too salty for our taste and so was the red curry. We also tried the hula pie here and it was not good. The only thing that saved the night was the live music. The pianist was really good and we enjoyed the live music. We even gave him a big tip for helping highlight the night.

Quality of food is pretty low, as bad as a fast food restaurant.

Steak and crab were good, crab cakes were just okay. Good place to dine outside.
