Came here the night before for shaved ice with the girlfriend. The perfect dessert, lots of flavors. Came back tonight for delicious yellow curry chicken noodles, and chicken pad see ew. Make sure to ask for medium spice level. Yummy! Got more shaved ice for dessert tonight.

Just stopped in here to buy some fresh cut fruit as it was advertised all over and an employee at a nearby business recommended this place to me. I got fresh cut pineapple and papaya. The lady working was nice and even gave me a cup of water to go. Not sure how any of the food is, but I know they do fresh fruit smoothies as well.

We should have read the reviews first. They seem to have an off night. We waited 45 minutes for not so tasty food. As a business owner, when a customer's order isn't right, the least you can do is offer some type of compensation.

Had 5 people in the party and everyone enjoyed what they got. Friendly hospitality and our food came out pretty quick. I got the garlic shrimp platter (forgot what it was called, something like that).

Some of the friendliest service on the island! The server we had was incredibly friendly and personable. He even showed us photos on his phone of the 100 lb. fish he had recently caught. Really made us feel welcome and more like locals than visitors. As for the food, I loved my yellow curry noodles. It really was the sauce that did it for me.There's just something about curry sauces I find completely addictive. By the time I cleared my plate, I was left wishing I had rice or something to sop up all the saucy goodness. At least there was a sizeable portion of vegetables on top to help me believe I was being somewhat balanced and healthful in my eating despite my indulgence. It was only when I learned the woman who I think is the owner is originally from Bangkok that it made sense to me why the food was so good.

Very disappointed, we have been here in the past and it was pretty good but this time was awful! The only reason that I gave 1 star was because 0 was not an option. My husband had an egg noodle dish that was dry and flavorless and tasted like the noodles were still raw. Mine was the Noodle House Special Shrimp and was swimming in broth (this was NOT a soup dish) All it tasted like was Sambal (chili paste). the best thing was the Coconut shrimp which were good and nice large shrimp the portions were also good size but if it isn't good size doesn't matter. The service was also very poor and the waitress could not even answer simple questions about the menu. They seem to be more focused on selling Shave Ice than running the restaurant. Make up your mind are you a restaurant or a Shave Ice stand?

The staff was nice and we were served quickly. The food was bleh. The server recommended the Saimin soup. He told me it was very popular. The soup was bland and they charged me $1.50 for 6 additional won ton chips. I asked for the chips to try and create some substance and flavor in the soup. As a last resort, I dumped a bunch of chili sauce in the soup too. Nothing was going to save that dishwater tasting soup.

This was a pretty nice stop. Hawaii was getting hot and we needed a cold drink. What's perfect other than coconut and shaved ice? Felt so refreshed and relaxed, it was simply paradise!

I decided to give this place a try even though I read several negative reviews. My wife and I had dinner and while the service was good, the food was less than stellar. I would equate the food to cheap mall food. On top of that it was so freaking hot inside I could barely stand it, even though they had all the windows open. Seems to be the norm that a lot of the restaurants and other businesses here have no A/C.

Pros: fast and friendly service, clean restrooms, and you can bring in your own beer from the ABC Store across the street since they don't serve alcohol. Cons: no kids cups, and the food was just okay.

was craving a good bowl of saimin, but didn't want to drive all the way to lihue for it. we decided to come here. the service was excellent. the girl that took our order was very friendly! she let me order the keiki (child) saimin, which would be between a small/medium sized portion for an adult. i liked that the broth wasn't too salty. the noodles were cooked just right, too. my dad had a noodle curry dish. i think they gear the spiciness towards the tourists here. it wasn't at all spicy, but the flavor of the curry was good.

Open on Sunday night! We ate family style, ordered 4 dishes and they were all very different and flavorful! The Thai noodle soup had a little kick to it. The orange chicken was great for the kids. The kaloa pork was delish! And the pad see ew disappeared too fast. Sure I've had better Thai food on the mainland, but they did a real nice job with quick and friendly service. Will be back.

Wow! I am very happy with this place! Very good service and a nice atmosphere. I had an AMAZING pasta dish: Seafood pasta topped with a garlic coconut sauce. One of the best dinners I've had while visiting the great state of Hawaii, even if it wasn't classic barbecue!

We stopped in for a late lunch after wandering around Kapaa for a bit. The server was having her lunch so we waited just a bit before ordering. The food came quickly, it was simple, affordable, but nothing special. Good place to drop in and grab a cheap bite.

The first time we came here for a sit down dinner, we were blown away by the service! This gal that was our waitress was beyond friendly and helpful. I think her name was Lisa. She is a middle-aged woman with a wrist tattoo of a plumeria. She was fantastic. The food was awesome. I ordered the sweet and spicy Thai noodle soup, which is rice noodles (not my fave, but the broth was excellent). My mom got some kind of chicken noodle dish that was very similar to yakisoba and it was very tasty. My dad ordered the garlic coconut noodle dish with shrimp that was AWESOME. My mom and I were both stealing bites. The sauce was just excellent and so creamy. The owner of the place is also the cook, and she does an amazing job. Her husband was helping out that night and we talked with him for a bit. All three were so friendly! The second time we came, we went in for take-out. None of the familiar people were there, but instead a young guy and a different woman. Only one other couple were currently dining and the staff did not greet us when we entered, or when my dad and I say down at their shaved ice bar to order to go. Finally the young guy turned around and said it would be just a minute because they were in the middle of a shift change. I said sure, no problem. But many minutes passed by and it appeared that the two were arguing over tips or something. Then another employee who was not on duty began arguing loudly and it was very awkward. The cook finally came out and took our to go order. The food is great, and I highly recommend their coconut garlic noodles, but the younger staff needs to up their service a bit. Keep the drama out from the customers' view and ears. The staff doing the shift change should have taken our order before continuing, at the rate they were going. But again, the food was delicious.

I ordered the "House Saimin". It cost around $13. For $13, I expect a very special bowl of saimin, particularly for the "House Saimin", which I would expect the company prides itself on. The waitress recommended it as well. My expectations were utterly destroyed when I received a large bowl of mass produced dry noodles in an uninteresting MSG laden broth, a couple of baby bok choy pieces, and half an overcooked hardboiled egg. I think I could have made the same thing in 7 minutes for $1.50. UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED. THIS IS A TOURIST TRAP. DISREGARD THE ZAGAT SIGN ON THE WINDOW, WHICH LOOKS UN-AUTHENTIC. YUK!!!!

Food is really good prices well it's Hawaii but the roast pork was out of this world. Interior is nicely decorated outdoor is not imposing but the food is what counts

Just kinda average. Not nearly as good as Hamura's Saimin, but it'll do if you're close by and craving Saimin.

Really good food! I had the fried rice and a lumpia type spring roll. Delicious. My husband had the fish n chips. Crunchy wonderful fish. Topped it off with a pineapple cherry shave ice from the bar. Go to this place. Yummy grinds. Loved this little place.

Great Saimin. Friendly staff. I enjoyed the food. The orders came out fast and it was not a negative reflection of the taste. Full of flavor. Chicken and pork Saimin were better than good. Thanks!

Highest marks for service. The server is extremely friendly. I thought the food was good and reasonably priced. I had the Kalua Pork over rice. It was a generous portion. I thought the pork was salty, but being my first time I am not sure if that is how it is supposed to taste. It was supposed to come with cabbage, broccoli, and carrots. It was mostly cabbage and a few broccoli. I ate it all. My husband had the udon soup and he said it was good. It was a large bowl that also included cabbage and tofu. He was happy. If I was staying longer or lived in the area, I would go again.

Nice looking place, decor was nice, service was good..... Food?.........eh, could be better. I ordered Thai ice tea and the Thai Spicy Noodles and my hubby ordered the Roasted Pork with hot coffee. First off, they didn't have hot coffee nor Thai ice tea, I opted for the Thai ice coffee as suggested by the waiter. It was watered down, hardly tasted the Thai coffee I was used to. My Thai noodle soup was disgusting. Tasted like it had too much vinegar and was not spicy at all. It had pieces of chicken a pile of noodles and that was pretty much it. The pork to my hubby rice plate was salty and overpowering with sauce. Our whole meal costed us a whooping $26. Overall, I would not return. .......bathroom was clean though.

Like all the other disappointed Customers, I should have read the Reviews... I've seen the HoN every time I went into Kapaa, but never had the chance to go there. I've always been interested in trying it out, so I did with my family. Big mistake! The staff was friendly enough but my major complaint was with the food. I ordered the Thai Spicy Noodle Soup and my wife ordered the House of Noodles Jumping Shrimp. The first problem with the Jumping Shrimp dish was that it was served in a plate with the broth up to the brim, and not in a bowl, which it should have been. Second was when the waitress placed the plate on the table. As she did so we find out the table is uneven and the broth runs off the plate leaving a mess. Nice! Then I get my dish. The Thai Spicy Noodle Soup looked okay, but when my wife and I tried to dig into the tangled ball of rice noodles in both our dishes, we were greeted with the wonderful fragrance of used dish water. I'm not sure if there was actual dishwater in the noodles, but it sure smelled like it! I never had Thai Spicy Noodle Soup before so I really didn't know how it was supposed to taste or smell; but I gave it a go. After a couple of bites, I couldn't do it anymore and I let the server know of the odor coming off the noodles. Of course, they couldn't do much for me so rather than argue, I just paid my bill and left. I don't think I'll be going there again anytime soon!

The food was great. I went there because I was sick and wanted something that was warm and would be easy on my stomach. I asked the owner what she recommended and she gave me some soup with chicken, vegetables, and egg noodles. It came in a large bowl and was a very generous portion of food. It was exactly what I needed. I'll definitely be coming back again.

After years of avoiding House of Noodles, my partner and I were on an exploratory mission for some good local cuisine. We had heard of 'new management', 'new chef' -so we gave it a go and- voila! - pleasantly surprised! New clean surroundings, a friendly wait-staff and chef "Two" ( yep that's her name) came across with good, abundant comfort food to "da max" - we had the calamari appy- (crisp not bread-y),slightly spicy dipping sauce. The House Saimin (seafood style), generous portions and clean. Their location is prime as you can eat on their storefront counter and watch dowtown Kapaa town go by. Not to mention fresh ice cold coconut water and a full shave ice 'bar'.

Excellent service, VERY friendly, delicious food. A real bang for your buck. We were trying to find a certain place and the waiters were soo sweet and helpful with maps to help us. One waitress even called her husband on her cell and brought the phone to the table so I could talk to him. They went out of their way to be helpful. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but don't be fooled.. The food was great!

We came for lunch while waiting for the farmers market to open. Based some of these reviews, i was a little hesitant but my mother was in the mood for noodles. What a pleasant surprise! I ordered the dry saimin with chicken, which was really tasty! My wife had the orange chicken, which she loved. My mother and daughter shared the fried rice and my mother was still raving about it hours later. The next day, after shopping at ABC, we came back for the shave ice. So freaking good! My wife also had the cold coconut milk and she absolutely loved it. As far as decor and restaurant cleanliness, it's a typical local spot. However, outside of a resort, hands down the cleanest bathrooms in Kauai.

I wish I had seen the reviews before eating there. the food was absolutely horrible. Pork was just a fatty mess of gunk. The coconut flavor was missing in the dish and the veggies were a mess of non flavor. There was nothing asian.fusion or anything about the food. totally nasty and not worth the cost at all. just cannot understand how a place can mess up a plate of noodles and veggies.

Do not eat here! I came in twice just to make my girl happy. Both times had terrible service and bland over priced food. Good luck if you decide to try it.

Don't Bother eating here! Be forwarned, there's a reason why it's always empty. However, despite my better judgement I discovered why curiosity killed the cat. My friend wanted to try it out, mostly as a dare & being a good sport figuring how bad could it be right? It's remained open despite a trace of customers, we ordered lunch there. A waste of time I later learned but quite a good cautionary tale I think. I ordered a Garlic chicken lunch special that came with veggies and rice. My friend ordered Orange chicken lunch special with same sides. Both meals were $10.99. The white rice was the only option availble and I gave in despite the fact that I prefer brown rice as I was really hungry. The white rice tellingly, was the biggest portion and best part of both meals. That said, it was undercooked, sticky and chalky in flavor. I then inquired about where the bathroom was after they asked me where I wad going and was told their bathroom was being fixed & wasn't operational. Had they posted a sign declaring no restroom I certainly would have taken that cue and gone elsewhere. But as we already ordered and now needing to go quickly, I asked again as to where could I please find one? I was told to use the one they use which is down the block next to the Shave Ice place and a different restaurant. I had placed my empty water glass next to the edge of the table, hoping it would be filled when I returned right? Wrong! At least our meals had arrived in my absence, but my glass was still quite empty which is forgivable if it was busy but there was only one other table besides us. I waited patiently and after 10 minutes, I got up and filled my own glass from the pitcher on the bar because no one was in sight to ask. Then I was questioned by the waitress who appeared from the back as to what I was doing. I panicked and then wrongly apologized about the poor manners on my part of filling my own water glass as this waitress was quite intimidating but insisted on my thirst as my alibi. I was told by my friend that she for some unknown reason thought I was served what looked like garlic pork when she brought the plates to our table during my quest to find the bathroom. Despite her uncertainty, at no point did she inquire with the kitchen as to what I was being served. Being hungry, I jumped into eating my meal which was 25% very, very garlicky and spicy meat, 25% bland vegetables and 50% white underwhelming rice as far as potions go. At this point, I was then told what the waitress had told my friend after I said it didn't taste quite like chicken, the other white meat. I asked the waitress if was my dish was chicken and she said she was pretty sure it was but insisted that she never made any pork comment about my dish. This prompted my friend to say this wasn't true. I having already taken a couple of doubtful bites but not wanting to take any chances asked if she would take it back after she reappeared after a long absence. She finally gave in to my pleading that she please take it back but would not offer any substitution as I had already eaten some. I was at this point so over this place but not before being offered a morsel from my friend's plate of the Orange chicken as I hadn't eaten much. We both agreed it was a little too deep fried and too sweet. The chicken was not exciting but it was certainly chicken and a good portion of 50% of the plate with a smaller portion of rice and veggies than my pitiful, waylorn plate. When the check came, The waitress said she could not take my pork dish off the bill as I had already eaten it despite my objection. It occured to me that she had eaten off my plate on the way back to the kitchen if what the kitchen said was true. It also suddenly occured to me that I was barking up the wrong tree as they could not afford refund my order as we were they only customers they had in quite a while. We paid and promptly left with a bad taste in our mouths, vowing to never return and advise others not to either.

Just another local joint in Kapaa. Nothing impressive but not bad either. Get a fresh cold coconut and even if you hate coconut juice you'll enjoy it because well...you're in Kauai! Got some shrimp dish and it did the work of satisfying my hunger.

  • Sarah B.

This place is terrible! I had a very bland fried rice dish. Service was slow in spite of the fact we were one of three parties in the entire restaurant. It took twenty minutes to ring up our check. A couple positives: they have a kids menu, and the smoothies were good. Still, I don't plan on going back.

Visiting from California has showed me the difference in quality, I understand because the different ingredients being used, but it was not the same. We were the only table in there at 3pm or so, by the time we left 1 other table had come in. The people who work at the front seemed to be Thai, and even they told us they dont really have Thai food. So we ordered from their menu, every single person who had a noodle soup complained about flavor, the broth was bland, the noodles were decent, no flavor overall in the whole bowl. Their "ice cold coconut" came room temperature, and tasted a little salty more than sweet. I think the only thing I liked here was the fruit smoothie they offered. Was excited at first to find a Thai place, was sad and disappointed when we left, we went looking for something to eat again within the next 20 minutes.

    (2)
  • Heather T.

We stopped for smoothies and were super happy with the outcome. I got the pineapple/mango and the hubs got the strawberry/banana/mango. Fresh fruit is hard to beat in a smoothie.

  • Gregory B.

Blech. No effort here. My dry saimin had one tiny, token fish cake that tasted like a pickle, one tiny token won ton chip and one gigantic, heaping wad of manufactured rice noodles. Veggies? Barely. Meh. Postively, my bowl of gunk was served promptly as we were the only ones in the establishment at 5:15 PM on the Labor Day holiday.

  • Denni S.

Nothing notable on the menu - looks and sounds good, but you can find better. The shrimp in my soup still had the veins in the them. Gross. No toilet paper down the toilets in the bathoom....but you're not on a boat....and the waste basket needed to emptied. Ewwww. Save your money and buy some Cup'O'Noodles at the Safeway down the street and toss a few frozen (cleaned) shrimp in there for good measure. You will get a much better meal.

Shaved ice with cream was good for the price $5. I don't think the girl who made it though used the correct flavors but it was good. Not sure if I was charged correctly either but I didn't tip so whatever. Would have appreciated the place to have been cleaner. I sat outside with a ton of flies because they left cups and plates out.

Solid three star. Service pleasant but not overly friendly. Typical casual island look. I like their vegetarian menu. Noodles and fried rice are yummy.

If I could, i'd give this place 0 stars!!! WORST food service EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Rarely do I write reviews, but the service was sooo bad, you must be warned. All my partner and I wanted that night was a couple of fresh coconuts ( there's a sign outside that says FRESH coconuts), but what was given to us were one young green and one very old brown looking coconut. The brown coconut was not as sweet as the green one, and it actually was a bit sour. When we asked the one server about it, he tells us that they can't tell if the coconut is going to be sweet or not until after it's been cut open. We took two small sips from the brown one, and told him that it was too sour. Then he tells us that we have to talk to the other server ( a very ornery woman ,who looks like mamma Fratelli from the movie Goonies) . She gives us the same b.s story as the man; we insist that we can't drink it; so she snatches the coconut, taking it to the kitchen while talking smack about us , pushing the kitchen door really hard, and causing a scene! She comes back, tells us that they tried the coconut and it wasn't sour;-/ I tell her that we can't drink it. She comes back to us , and tells us that the owner said fine, we don't want your business, and get out! I couldn't believe what was happening; and over a coconut I told the male server why is she making a scene over a coconut. He just shrugged his shoulders ,and said, " well what was I suppose to do" . I told him, " you brought me 1 green young coconut and 1 brown coconut that was a bit sour, all you had to do was bring me another young coconut" . So I paid for the the green one ( and he was surprised that I wanted to pay for it) ; and we left. Until this woman stops working There, I urge everyone not to give them your hard earned money!!!

Right after biking the Kapaa path, our parched throats immediately prioritize our bodies to find ice cold drinks. Right across the street from our bike rentals we see a sign with SMOOTHIES, SHAVED ICE and our bodies were like magnets to this store. Inside its actually a Thai restaurant, but upfront they have a bar where they allowed us to just order a mango smoothie and a root beer/vanilla shaved ice. Portions were generous and prices decent, its on the pricey side, bu definitely worth it. They used fresh mango in the smoothie and the shaved ice was just delicious. On a random side note, the staff seemed a bit stressed. I didn't appreciate the level of professionalism the "owner" showed in front of the customers. He seemed to be scolding his wife and possibly his sister in law right in front of customers! Thankfully, that didn't stop the mom and the daughter (who served us) from providing pleasant service.

I ordered the Saimin (#25 with pork). Broth is great and lots of it. Noodles are so-so (Hamura's is better), but the stuff inside like the wontons are better than Hamura's. Now, if I could only take the noodles from Hamura's (who doesn't give you a lot of broth and is a bit too salty) and the broth from House of Noodles...now THAT would be an SUPERB bowl of saimin. I think a collaboration is necessary. Check out my pics. what2eatz.blogspot.com/2…

This place was good for shave ice after 6p.m. when every store in Kapaa closes, this was still open. Man this town goes to sleep early! Get the shave ice with ice cream and a cream top. The best!!!! They had a Hawaiian Dream shave ice on their specials menu-- amazing!

Let's be clear. This is by no stretch of the imagination Thai food. Stay away. The House of Noodles served me one of the worst meals I've had in years. Food was bland and poorly prepared. Very over priced. I think the noodles were seasoned with jarred oyster sauce and the won ton came from a can. Stay away from the calamari. Tiny portion, over breaded and over priced. Even the Thsi iced tea was poor. I'm pretty sure they used a Chinese tea as the base. It had a strange flavor. I was asked how I liked my meal. I replied honestly. It was then I learned they don't even use fish sauce because the locals don't like it. I rarely ever give but one star but I honestly wouldn't go back under any circumstances.

I got the Everything More Wonton Min saimin with kalau pork. It was a ton of food and really good. Fellow diners got some stuff that looked less than very good. I'd strongly recommend the saimin. Everything More Wonton Min -- can't go wrong. It's even fun to say. Everything More Wonton Min!

Bug in soup. I guess it's kinda not that bad when there's an occasional visit from our creepy winged friends, but this time there were unexpected visitors in three of our dishes. The food was mediocre, the service was unapologetic, and the bugs... Blech. Can someone call the local food inspector?

I'm going to give it four stars. House of Noodles seems to get overlooked by most visitors to Kauai since it requires a short drive up the road to Kapa'a. Hear me now, believe me later. The drive is worth it! Tasty variety of Saimin, Wonton and Thai that blows away the competition. We tried the Lihue local Noodle place but it couldn't live up to the hype. The food here was a ton better. House of Noodles also has a full bar. I like a beer with my Saimin. Can't get that in Lihue. Give it a try. BTW The Spring Rolls were very good too!

The place we wanted to go was closed so we settled for this place. The menu is extensive and it is obviously an old time family run kind of place. A grand daughter was waiting tables and I cut her a little slack since she was so young. Grandpa was at the bar. The place has a cool kind of old island feel to it. After that it goes down hill. It is just sort of dirty. My kids loved counting the ants on the wall. The food took forever and was mediocre at best. Everything was just lacking some sort of flavor... salt...acidity...spice... Then you see the back room that they have turned into a junk room. They have food thawing on top of junk back there and suddenly I realized this place might be more colorful than I realized. Way to expensive for the quality and one meal was plenty. I had high hopes but they just did not make the cut.

When we first got there, the server was outside arguing with someone. At first we didn't know what was going on until we came into the restaurant and the server apologize to us about the incident that just happened outside. Aside from what took place outside, the food was horrible. We order the chicken noodle soup and chicken fried rice, to start off.. the noodle soup had no flavor at all and there was no sriracha sauce! Who eats noodles without sriracha sauce? Anyway the fried rice was too sticky and no flavor as well. Both dishes was over priced.

The worst bowl of noodles I've had since Pho Citi (you can read my review here on yelp). It was terrible. I had a few bites, and I was done. The shrimp weren't cleaned properly. I did have a shave ice, and while a little on the granular side, that was good.

Just have to give a shout out to this place. When we stayed in Hawaii my husband and son always picked this place to go eat. It seemed funny to me because we ate alot of ramen noodles to save for the vacation in the first place! Lol ... The food here is very good. The service was so-so but the food made up for it. Very reasonable prices also. We loved the outdoor seating.

We ate this place 3 times while in Kauai. For all the people who say they will try something next time: "good luck". This place has the freshest fish and most flavorful noodles in HI!! Just got back from Maui where we tried Star Noodle. This place may not be as upscale or trendy but the food is fresher and there are more veggies. Hopefully the owners will hire a professional waitress rather than family that can burn out but the daughters who work here are very sweet. We still talk about how good this hidden gem. It's not much too look at but who cares!!

The quest for great Saimin on Kauai usually stops at Homura's Saimin, but when it's vegetarian saimin you are looking for this is THE place. Well, it also happens to be the only place (that I could sniffout, anyway). Everything tasted fresh and yummy, and they even had tropical shakes and fresh pineapple and coconut juice. On a rainy night during the week, I found the bar to be a little intimidating with rowdy locals watching sports, but once I put on a brave face and took the plunge, everyone, including the staff turned out to be friendly and full of aloha. It's worth the drive over to Kapaa for some yummy, hot, noodley noodles. kauaimenu.com/MenuPages/…

Saimin is the best bet here. The rest of the food is ok, but not 4 stars good!

Go for the Saimin, it is their strong suit. The service was friendly. They have beer on the menu but for some reason have had a few hiccups with maintaining their licences and we were left to drink water. Go for the soup... number 58 I believe it was, is my favorite. Very satisfying after a day of beech boozing and body boarding.

We ate here and honestly were not impressed. The noodles were salty and bland. We did like the cheese wontons but overall the food was just not that great. We did not mind the ambience and were amused by the all out cursing fight back in the kitchen (in English no less) with an older man and woman. That made me give this two stars for "drama" but really the food was just okay.

Service was OK. Bought a pineapple that was supposed to be ripe, when I got home and pulled it outta the bag, it wasn't. The smoothies aren't fresh fruit. Wasn't very good. Although the shave ice seemed a good portion for the price. Dont knw how it tasted though. I wouldn't come here again. I wasn't impressed...

Came to this place for dinner because....well not sure why. Maybe because I wasn't sure where else to go and Eastside was closed. I like the decor in this place, had more of a Mexico feel to it. Full bar which was a plus. However I was not at all impressed with my soup. I got the shrimp spicy noodle soup. It was very bland and not spicy at all. The service was excellent. There are some pluses and some minuses. I guess you got to try it for yourself. Different strokes for different folks. I have had better though.

    A. Noodle options were aplenty and inexpensive B. Noodle dishes were tasty (the ones I ordered) C. Only issue was the amount of flies while dining outside...ah well, can't have everything D. Wait, another semi-issue was the amount of carbon dioxide I was sucking in due to the traffic in fornt of me since Kapa'a was jammed like manhattan bridge/tunnels at rush hour I'd hit it again, it cheap and worth the exhaust breath.

The good news: great smoothies. Not so hot: my yellow curry shrimp noodle dish came smothered in heaps of garlic, which made it almost inedible.

Although the category is Thai and it is run by Thai people, you can't find normal Thai dishes here like their curries or stir fries...it is sorta a cross between Thai spiced dishes and local food. The hostess was very friendly and efficient. I ordered the spicy healthy noodle salad with chicken. The noodles were glassy and made from green beans - yeah different. The chicken was not cooked to my liking...it was sorta boiled. My bf ordered a tofu dish and found a cooked fly. He told the hostess who profusely apologized and gave him pad se ew instead....which I don't think was really on the menu. Anyway, due to the unfortunate circumstances, I have to give this place 2 stars...

originally, i was trying to check out blossoming lotus vegetarian restaurant to get some healthier food after getting a lomi lomi massage. (my wife booked that stuff. _my_ one most important stop in kaua'i was the kapa'a skate park down kukui street from this area.) well, apparently, blossoming lotus is gone and being replaced soon by bushido sushi. this historic downtown kapa'a area is a total tourist area filled with tourists from those nearby resorts. i have no reason to do touristy, resorty stuff. well, as soon as we got seated out on the porch of house of noodles and opened the menu, i realised i fell into a tourist trap. ugh. the prices were pretty expensive. they had lots of seafood choices, but i didn't see other restaurants on this trip charging upwards of $10 for lunch like this. well, i purposely ordered their saimin because i had lunched on hamura's saimin the day before and wanted to compare. i think the saimin here was like $9.50 or so. it was $6.50 at hamura's. the saimin here was nothing special. i saw no need for the fried wonton skin in there. it was all soggy anyway. oh yeah, i ordered it with beef. it was a big chunk of braised, stringy beef; which was probably the high point of the dish. also, it was nice to have a whole, boiled egg in there instead of just half. the noodles were not chewy enough for me; too soggy, like the noodles in cup o' noodles. my wife ordered some kind of thai style, wide rice noodles, kind of like chow fun, but the flat noodles were rolled up a little. that dish was better than mine. it had a good amount of veggies and egg. she ordered it with chicken. she rarely likes the meat in thai noodle dishes, so i ended up eating most of her chicken. my wife wanted to order a coconut or shave ice; but i just wanted to get out of there because i saw how nasty the men's restroom was. the toilet was all flowing over and stuff. ick!

Sorry this is one of the worst Stir fried noodles i ever had. The noodles was half cooked and it was not stirred properly and vegetables were half cooked. The shrimp was ok. Advice for owners...Please understand that we are paying 12 $ for a noodles and make sure at least it is edible...Pathetic.

Good food and friendly service. Prices may ne a bit steep for what you get and the menu is almost too big with a couple hundred items. You wont go wrong here but expect to pay $20 per head when all is said and done.

I had the spicy glass noodles with seafood and mixed vegetables. I haven't had glass noodles before which puzzled me as I've had plenty of asian cuisine in my lifetime. I literally had to hunt for them. They were pretty transparent ! I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a lot of noodles. I was really expecting a a large quantity of noodles. There was plenty of food considering. It was like a stir fry with no liquid. $ 13.95 was the cost. It was okay and mildly spicy. The server said it would be medium. Okay with me since mild is just fine with me. It was a bit pricey if you ask me but then in Kauai you have to anticipate paying a premium.

We were very hungry and most places closes at 3pm. We came here after kayaking the wailua river and hiked miles to the secret falls, and it was one of very few restaurants still open. Food is okay, I wouldn't go again though...

Wanted some saimin and found the reviews on this place to be decent. Had the pork saimin. Service was good but soup was bland and noodles were more like ramen than traditional saimin. If you're not too picky, this place will do. But if you want the real deal, try somewhere else.

We came here because we were starving and there wasn't really anything else close to our hotel. It's your standard Thai/noodle house restaurant. Nothing fancy. They have different types of Asian/Hawaiian food. We ordered the saimin, which was hot. It was ok but nothing too memorable.

This place has a great selection of noodle dishes. I ordered the bean noodles (I think) and it was very chewy and tasty. The staff were great and food came pretty quickly. I would actually give them 3.5 stars because the prices were decent for the size of the dishes.

While on Kauai, I was on a mission to get fresh coconut juice. So when we drove by this restaurant on our way back to the hotel and saw the Ice Cold Coconut juice sign, I was about to fly out of the car. I was all excited about having the young coconut in the shell, and was about to pay whatever amount to get it while in Kauai. This restaurant is Thai Asian Fusion style. We ordered 2 coconuts, 2 appetizers (fried mushrooms & fried wontons), and two entrees (lemon chicken and spicy seafood noodle soup). The young coconut was very nice and refreshing as promised!! The fried mushrooms were fried canned mushy mushrooms, and the pork inside the wonton was a bit sour tasting. So those were obviously not up to my standards of yummies. My husband's chicken entre was very nice; the chicken was really full of chicken favored. My noodle soup is actually a tom yum soup base. The noodle itself was not cooked thoroughly; the soup base is neither sour nor spicy enough to be flavorful, as a Tom Yum soup should be. It is a nice family restaurant, and was a nice break from the over priced hotel food, but if it was not for the coconut juice, I probably would not have go in. But then again, my home town is Seattle, so I am spoiled with the abundance of Thai restaurants.

Given the name, we had to try this place! Had the saimin and another noodle dish (made with the green bean noodle). The saimin was good, the other noodle dish was just okay. The best thing we had was the mango smoothie. They have an outside stand if you just want a smoothie - would definitely recommend that!

A good place for Chinese style noodles in Kapaa. There is a big selection of dry noodles and noodle soup along with rice dishes. They have a bar as well.

House of Noodles is the best place for soups of all kinds with all kinds of noodles from large and in charge Chow Fun to Lo Mein to Rice Noodles of every size! Mix it with different ingredients and get yourself eating the sweetest tasting soup EVER. Now, I'm not sure if they have much of anything else - because truthfully, I went there two times a day for 3 days for the soup! A MUST when visiting Kapaa! But worth the trip eve if you are in Poipu!

  • Dave S.

We both got the deluxe super fancy saimin which was really good. Deduct a point because it was probably twice as expensive as some of the smaller and less touristy saimin stands we passed. But it was very tasty and the service was efficient.

  • Jeff G.

The place looks like exactly right. A big formica bar/counter with lots of shiny liquor bottles. Leighs and other Tikki type things hanging everywhere and heavy, carved wooden chairs and table. But it's not kitschy, just Hawaiian. This is probably best known for it's Saimin, but the menu here is huge, with rice noodle dishes, bean threads(they call them Health Noodles) and lots of other Asian entrees. Not so much Asian Fusion as Asian Melting Pot which is how Hawaii is demographically. The Saimin is very good, not as good Homura's but still with a good broth and fresh noodles. We had potsticers which were tasty and not greasy and I had the Wonton Noodles which had a nice filling. It's also nice that they serve liquor here. It makes for a nice leisurely lunch.

WARNING - My review is only for the shaved ice. I didn't think someone could mess up shaved ice... I was wrong. I asked for a scoop of ice cream with strawberry shaved ice and got who knows what flavor. I actually walked to the corner, threw away the shaved ice, and finished the ice cream. My friend also didn't like it and she ordered a different flavor.

worst shaved ice ever. They even messed up on our flavors :(

I'm not really reviewing the restaurant, just the shave ice stand. I came here for shave ice while visiting Kauai, and after hearing about how awesome shave ice was supposed to be and seeing the little stand, I really had high hopes. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed. Big pieces of ice, not a whole lot of flavor. After going to JoJo's in Waimea and Ululani's in Maui, I now know that shave ice can be an amazing experience. This one just left a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Teal H.

Ooops, sort of a misstep. I should have known by the pictures of the food on the menu that I was about to make a mistake. The flavors were off (pork tasted gamey), the place is kinda dirty (sticky menus and dusty crap everywhere), and all I can really say in defense of the place is that I didn't get sick afterwards. I FELT sick, but no actual gastric distress, just bummed at wasting a meal out. Plus, I had to stomach the told-you-so look on my husband's face, LOL! "Alright, alright... You were right, honey..."

This is awesome! It's very good Vietnamese with Hawaiian influence. 4 nights in Kapaa and the best food we had. Kailua pork stir fry is awesome and so was noodle bowl. Hot and delicious!

    (5)
  • Paul H.

It was decent. I had pork noodle stir fry. Not bad..not great...just in the middle. I had to spice it up a bit because it was a little bland. I have to give it a 2 because there was about three different cockroaches that had crawled on the table during dinner. That was pretty gross.

  • Eric S.

i went here on a whim and it was a bad decision. place seemed a little dirty, bathrooms were dirty and the food was just awful. the fried pork dumplings were just laughable---huge fried wonton with enough pork of the size of a dime. just a joke. if i wasn't hungry i would have not have eaten my meal. just lacked fresh veggies and good taste. hit up the Big Save and microwave any noodle dish and you will be happier.

We were on our honeymoon, on our way to the coconut coast. I was starving and wanted Asian food, this place screamed out Asian, who can go wrong with noodles. Any who, I love the country feeling you get when you come here, you almost feel like your in Asia because of the dark wood tables and chairs and the display of fresh fruit and Asian goods. The food was yum and it didn't break the bank, which is always good.

Pretty decent food, I am not on Kauai for Thai food BUT I will give them 4 stars for 2 very important reasons: the "special House of Noodles Herb Soup" and those green bean noodles they have. Don't be fooled by the healthy billing on the green bean noodles, they have awesome taste and texture. Well, for taste thats prolly the sauce we got in a spicy seafood dish, but still it was yummy.

It's one of those rainy nights in Kauai that a steamy bowl of noodles soup will give me much comfort. We were staying in Princeville and the closest place to getting that comfort food is in Kapaa. I had the Special Saimin and I can't ask for anything better - it's like a hot bowl of wanton noodles from San Francisco's Chinatown with just a lot more in it - shrimp, spam and fish cake. If you are into noodles, this is the place to go. Oh, and don't order the wine. Stick with water, soda or beer.

We ate here on vacation after finding out that the Ono Family Restaurant close by was closed. My girlfriend likes saimin so we stopped in. Sans a couple at the bar we were the only two in there...and it was normally a time restaurants should be busy. The gf liked her food. Mine was okay. I had the marinated garlic grilled chicken. It wasn't marinated and it wasn't grilled. The chicken itself was bland, but the sauce and vegetables it came with was good. The presentation was nice. I wouldn't eat there again. In fact, as I'm writing this the leftovers are still in my hotel room's fridge! I'm giving it three stars because I'd hate to judge based on one meal and the gf did like hers. Service was non-existent other than taking an order and bringing us food. Plenty of better choices on Kuhio Hwy.

we were hankering for noodles, and thought of thai noodles. we tried king and i thai, but they only had pad thai and lahd na (no noodles soups, so we were bummed). the next day, we were walking along looking for some place to eat dinner and ran into house of noodles -- exactly what we were looking for the previous night. the owners and wait staff are thai, so i thought i'd try to get this place classified as thai too, but a noodle house shop (which is thai too!) so don't expect thai curries. the egg noodles we had were great and the wait staff was all too friendly.

Loved this place. We ate here on our last day and really wished we would have found it sooner. I had a Saimin dish--Shrimp and veggies in this VERY garlicy broth. Oh my gosh, it was excellent. My husband had a rice dish with pork and vegetables. Also, excellent. The menu is full of choices (and pictures to go along!). I would have gone here every night for dinner while we were in Kauai, but will have to settle for waiting until we return to the island. I would highly recommend as not only is the food fresh, prepared well and presented beautifully, the prices were actually reasonable (for Hawaii).

    (4)
  • Christopher S.

I'd have to agree, the dry saimin dish here is delicious! They had quite a variety of noodle dishes here. Having eaten here twice with my wife and friends, I'd surely be coming back when I get the chance. Not sure about the shaved ice here, but then again this place is called the "House of Noodles" why you'd be getting anything besides noodles is beyond me!

We ate saimin here and we thought the food was good. Other people swear by Hamura which I have not eaten at so I can't compare. But all in all, I'd go back to this place.

So I was on a mission to find the best shave ice on the island and decided sometimes you find the best things in the most unexpected places. This was not one of those times. So I went in and the first thing I noticed was the place was kind of dirty. The lady was sitting by an open window with no screen on it making Lumpia with a giant bowl of long glass noodles all cut up and meat and sprouts. She left her station to make the shave ice and immediately flies came in and started landing on her lumpia filling. GROSS. Good thing I was not there for that. So I ordered my shave ice. Beware the owner is a sweet lady but does not speak much English. First off I could see the ice was more like snow cone than shave ice. Then for some reason the bottles are on a baking sheet in dirty water. I ordered pineapple, li hing mui, and passion fruit. She proceeds to dump mango all over the entire thing and then says oops that is not passion fruit and puts it down and start pouring the right one. I am not a mango fan. SO basically she ruined the shave ice experience by dumping it all over then handing it to me like it was no big deal.

This place does noodles of good. The saimin is not "homura's" but it's very good and more mild in flavour. The herb soup is really, really good and sweet (but not sugar sweet silly, though it probaly has a dash--sugar enhances soups you know). The glass noodles are truly unique to me. I though they're the typical thin, clear stuff, but it's like clear "wood curls" without being the wood part. I mean the noodles are shaped like thin curled logs. Very interesting and yummy. You can order the dishes for around $9. Add seafood, and the dishes jump substantially in price (around $14 or so).

Pros: fast and friendly service, clean restrooms, and you can bring in your own beer from the ABC Store across the street since they don't serve alcohol. Cons: no kids cups, and the food was just okay.

  • Nate L.

If I was staying longer or lived in the area, I would go again.

was craving a good bowl of saimin, but didn't want to drive all the way to lihue for it. we decided to come here. the service was excellent. the girl that took our order was very friendly! she let me order the keiki (child) saimin, which would be between a small/medium sized portion for an adult. i liked that the broth wasn't too salty. the noodles were cooked just right, too. my dad had a noodle curry dish. i think they gear the spiciness towards the tourists here. it wasn't at all spicy, but the flavor of the curry was good.

  • Paige B.

  • Samson Linus Y.

    (2)

We stopped for smoothies and were super happy with the outcome. I got the pineapple/mango and the hubs got the strawberry/banana/mango. Fresh fruit is hard to beat in a smoothie.

    (1)
  • Matthew A.

We both got the deluxe super fancy saimin which was really good. Deduct a point because it was probably twice as expensive as some of the smaller and less touristy saimin stands we passed. But it was very tasty and the service was efficient.

Appetizers were good, entree had plenty of seafood. Only negative was non-English waitstaff.

It was decent. I had pork noodle stir fry. Not bad..not great...just in the middle. I had to spice it up a bit because it was a little bland. I have to give it a 2 because there was about three different cockroaches that had crawled on the table during dinner. That was pretty gross.

i went here on a whim and it was a bad decision. place seemed a little dirty, bathrooms were dirty and the food was just awful. the fried pork dumplings were just laughable---huge fried wonton with enough pork of the size of a dime. just a joke. if i wasn't hungry i would have not have eaten my meal. just lacked fresh veggies and good taste. hit up the Big Save and microwave any noodle dish and you will be happier.
