It's fast food so how can I expect anything more? We used the drive-through window. My fiancee gave the cashier the money for our food and the cashier took about 4 mins just to give her the change. Geez...hurry up!!! Fast food...slow cashier.

McDonald's are all the same, right? Not so much. The goal of franchises is sameness, and the Kailua Town McDonald's is consistent in its food taste and quality--nothing truly remarkable there. However, this location stands out to me for its service. While the facility itself is large and clean, I normally use the drive-through (so does half of Kailua, judging by the length of the lines throughout the day). I'm fairly impressed by the speed at which they manage to move everyone through. In addition to the prompt service, my food orders have been filled correctly and change made accurately--every time. The drive-through employees are invariably friendly. Something most McDonalds don't do well is handle custom orders. This one has done a great job at accommodating mine, and for that they get my repeat business.

On 2/22/14 about 8PM I went to the drive thru to order 5 items: 20 piece chicken mcnuggets, grilled onion cheddar burger, buffalo ranch mcchicken, small fries, and large fries. I take it home and my wife looks at the large fries and it is filled half way, WTF?! I call the manager on the phone and he says to comeback and pickup a new fries, so I do so. I go back home and find that they did not give me my buffalo ranch mcchicken, so I go back to get a refund because I am pissed!!! The filipino manager tells me why I did not say I was missing a sandwich earlier and implied that I was lying. I just wanted a refund because they did not give me what I paid for!! The screen listed all 5 items and my receipt listed all 5 items so I don't understand why they would give me 4 items??!! Anyways the manager was very rude and he should of just said sorry and take care of it instead of being a dick head!! If this manager ever acts this way to me again, I will report him to McDonalds corporate office and get him fired for being a moron!!!

Spit in secret sauce ? I Went there @ 8:30 pm Wednesday and asked to used the bathroom as signs on both we're saying being clean and locked. Asked one then another workers and in Tilburg took my iPhone out to record the manager. As he would not help seeing me record the plea then did another employee at the counter finally offered me and another patron to open it. I am in my sixties and dressed well, not indigent or sloppy but Haole. When I came out I ordered a burger and while I watched around the corner saw the non white manager take my burger from the line and seemed to spit on it. Opened it at the counter and thanked them but warn you of this action. On my burger among the dressing was a new part of the secret sauce, spit. I have a video of the manager from my encounter. I grew up in Honolulu and would not recommend fast food but will warn you and the company not to go there. You may not piss them off for a simple request or even have to use the restroom, but they should be avoided. I did not eat the burger or ask for a replacement as they know I saw it, told them I would report this and Yelp it. Mabuhai mr manager.

I'd like to update my previous rating from 1 to 5 stars. I cannot access my Yelp account to edit my review, so Yelp user support told me to open a new account instead. I originally joined Yelp because I thought I could update my reviews later as businesses will always improve based on customer input. Returning to McDonald's I'm happy to see that improvement in staff's treatment of customers over the years have improved. More friendly, and the attempt to change is evident. Thanks McDonald's for improving!

I did the online survey and commented that the people at the counter were not friendly and did not seem to want to be there. I saw a complete difference today. They were polite and friendly and it seems like they were well trained. Good to see that they are taking action to follow up on the comments. The only problems now is that the door from the parking lot has a terrible squeak and the AC wasn't working. I put those in the online survey as well:)

We all know no one goes to McDonald's for a healthy meal. So this review is based on the the appearance of the restaurant, the friendliness of the staff and the accuracy and the timely manner in which I received my order. Because let's be honest, the quality of the food is the same no matter which McDonalds you go to: Fast & Simple! It's been a while since I've been to McDonalds and they must have had a recent renovation(recent meaning within the past 10 years) because I felt as if I had somehow mistaken my destination and accidentally stumbled upon a hip cafe. However, I wasn't mistaken and I came to the conclusion that this McDonalds, with its neat red booths and smartly planned layout must have been transported from Seattle or Portland. The kids sections has always been pretty cool in my book, with a kid-friendly jungle gym and hamburger stools for kids to sit in style and enjoy their happy/mighty kids meals. This area is large enough to host a birthday party too (if that's even allowed). A bar table with stools area is located near a TV, making it convenient for those who LOVE to indulge in a burger or two while watching their favorite team play or catch up with the news. As I patiently wait for my number to appear on the screen (yes they have a television screen specifically to announce completed orders) and then received my order from the friendly cashier who took it to begin with, I noticed that there were many families scattered among the booths that occupy the rest of the restaurant. Although McDonalds food isn't the greatest and in no way close to being my go to meal, I don't blame those families for wanting to enjoy their meal in a clean, appealing and family friendly environment. Let's just say, If I was a student living in Kailua, I'd skip the busy Starbucks and study here :)

I'm not the hugest fan of this McDonald's. Even though there's a play area for children, it seems like a liability issue due to all the homeless, druggies and youths (yes, the new girl's schmidt type) coming through this establishment. The wallpaper is also peeling in some places and even though it's clean, idk who sat at my table before me, it could have been that homeless guy who just left, etc. The cashiers are really hit or miss. Some of them are nice, others not so much. Some of them can't speak English, so it gets a little hard to order sometimes. The service is fast enough, if not friendly. I try not to use the bathrooms here due to the aforementioned homeless people and druggies who frequent here. This is the only McDonald's I've seen with a TV. Pretty cool, it's right next to the bathrooms and is usually playing national news. There always seems to be enough parking in the lot shared with hawaii national bank. There's also plenty of metered street parking nearby.

It's McDonalds. The bar isn't very high when we're talking about dining experiences. That being said, this one is particularly annoying. First, they've jacked up the prices (especially for drinks) much higher than the rest of the island. They move at a glacial speeds so ordering that expensive drink just took 10 minutes of standing in line. Lastly, the TV that is next to the bathrooms and counter is blasting religious programming whenever I go in. I have very low expectations from McDonalds. They do have real iced tea though and that brings me in. They have not exceeded those expectations.

One star is too high of a rating for this location! Employees are not friendly and are SLOW! O M G SLOW!!!!!! And never gets orders right! hire people who can read and bag the right orders!!!!!! UGH this location! Plus it is prices are higher at this location!

Leaving Kailua beach and need a quick ice cream? This is a great place to stop and get a drink or snack before your drive home. It has clean restrooms, plenty of parking, and a large dining area. Ahhh! Soft-served ice cream in a cone after an afternoon at the beach. It brings back memories when that was the routine.

I feel more than a little ridiculous writing a review about McDonald's, but I am just not lovin' this location. Three times to date, my boyfriend and I drove out empty-handed because they were out of/were not making/unintelligible excuse -- whatever we wanted to order (I am very particular! Ice cream or bust!). So... bust. Our attempts were at three different times of the day too: mid-afternoon, late afternoon, evening. I know, I know, avoidance should only improve my health (i.e. soft serve is my Siren song). Meh.

  • Nadine C.

I liked the sanitizing hand wipes at the entrance! The hamburger chairs are cute for the children as well as the play area. The eat-in section is spacious and clean. The television is a nice touch. The girl taking the orders can improve by paying attention to customers when they are speaking to her. She was looking at her coworkers and having a side conversation which was frustrating for me.

I eat at McDonald's about as often as I eat at Alan Wong's. Once or twice a year if I'm lucky. Wife and I were on a serious time crunch as her dad is ex-military and wanted us home by 9 am sharp to go to the commissary. That would easily rule out Boot's and Kimo's for breakfast, where you have to wait about 4 days to get a table. So McD's it is. We opted to "dine in." I got the sausage biscuit and wife got the "big breakfast" which is a decontructed sausage biscuit. So we both pretty much ate the same thing. Service was fast and mechanical. The ambiance at the Kailua McDonalds has gotten nicer. Orange modern looking furniture that looks easy to clean in case some homeless guy barfs all over the place. A large majority of the seating is designated for handicapped patrons. Maybe that's a sign I should continue eating here only once a year. *stomach gurgle gurgle* Maybe once every two years.

This place is full of drug addicts and drug dealers. Saw at least two drug deals going down right by the entrance today. I feel sorry for the addicts but there a families with young children and teens from nearby schools who also frequent this place. When management turns a blind eye to this type of illegal activity taking place daily on the premises, it is a huge turn-off for parents with young kids. I am also annoyed that the owner of this McDonalds has asked the workers to charge for a simple substitution such as as ranch sauce in place of tartar sauce - very, very manini.

This mcdonalds service is poor. Their Staff Seem confused or they don't understand english. I've been running errands in kailua more frequently the past couple of months and every time i go here i get poor service, wrong order, rude staff. I went today and i kept repeating over and over again to the girl what i wanted and i finally gave uo and was gonna pay extra for what was cheaper as a meal just to make the madness stop. Without me noticing she deleted my drink so when i payed and got my food but no drink i asked to speak to a manager. She was apologetic of her staff but her staff is still poor none the less. Just skip this mcdonalds and go somewhere else trust me

Ive been in CHARLES drive thru line many times & I have to say he has the best customer service. Like waay better service then those fancy restaurants customer service. I usually dont write reviews on fast food chains because youll get the usual bad service, hair in food, wrong orders, attitude etc etc. But I had to write this review for Charles, I work just down the road and ALWAYS drive thru during lunch or dinner & always run thru him during dinner time& each time i see him hes ALWAYS IN A GOOD MOOD ! EXCELLENT service from him. He should consider a higher end restaurant so he can make BIG TIPS. With his awesome customer service it can so happen !!! THANK YOU FOR THE AWESOME SERVICE FROM MCDONALDS CHARLES. I wouldnnever except great service from mcdonalds so I just had to write a review for him !!!!

Local breakfast option. ..after driving around to all local places had long lines, we settled on McDonalds. I was pleasantly surprised to see the local breakfast option with portuesage sausage and/or spam. The manager was great, she offered to refill my coffee after I spilled it, and the bathrooms got cleaned while we were there.

This mcdonalds is kind of up and down. This particular occasion was a good one. The food was hot the fries were good. I tried the mighty wings and they were piping hot and juicy. The mcnuggets are bland after eating the mighty wings. So it's a win for the wings! Asked for a powerade/punch mix but it came out only powerade. Both quarter pounders were special ordered and came out correctly. All in all it was a good visit.

Mcdonalds has been in the same location since I can remember, back to the days when the restaurant part was open outdoor seating. There was a gated play area outside with a slide and there was these bouncing thingy's in the shape of the McDonald's characters that you could ride on,I'm talking old school 80's action lol. I have pics of it somewhere but I'll spare myself the embarrassment and opt not to post them. This place has gone through several renovations since then and just finished it's most recent changes about a week or so ago. Service and food quality pretty much hasn't changed over the years. Food is decent and service is good most of the time. The new renovations look nice but only god knows why they put two order taking things in the drive thru? I'm talking literally side by side, maybe 6ft apart. It's only a one lane drive thru so it doesn't make any sort of sense to me.I got to hear "Hello welcome to McDonald's how may i serve you ?" twice in less than a minute. It confuses the worker's too. It also slows things down and the lines have been kinda long, which sucks. That's about the only negative thing I have to say about the place. It was corporate owned and went franchise a little over 10yrs ago but i didnt notice a difference in the service or food. It's one of the better McDonald's that Ive been to on the Island and I'm not just saying that because I live in Kailua lol, it's the truth. Side note: I tried the Peppermint Mocha this morning because some of my friends raved about it..well it was effen horrid!.It was $2.70 for a small cup of pure barfyness. Thank god i didnt order a bigger size, have mercy on the poor curb i poured it out on. If your into drinking Hot watered down chocolate laced with toothpaste then by all means this drink is for you. If you dont like drinking really crappy things then avoid ordering it. It's not to hip. yuckz

Slooooow. Even by Hawaii standards. I asked for a pack of Buffalo sauce when they finally gave me my chicken sandwich. I've done this at McDonald's all over the world... and this is the 1st one to say NO and that I'd have to pay for it. How much is reasonable? 10 cents? 25? I could maybe handle those, but they want 53 cents for a measly condiment. Suck it, McD's. 2 stars only because the food met my expectations, even if the sandwich was dry without any sauce.

If you are on the windward side and want McDonalds you are better off going to the location in enchanted lakes. The location in Kailua town routinely messes up our orders. We've encountered missing items, undercooked items, expired chocolate milk and when I ask for no mustard they pour it on. Today we waited in line 20 minutes to be told the ice cream machine was broken. A sign nicely posted could have saved us time and cranky kids.

I feel funny about writing a review about McDonald's but I've come here many times and there is usually a issue I need to bring it up. If you want a milkshake, the machines are usually not working. It's been twice in a row in the past month that the milkshake machine is down. What's even worse is I paid twice for them and and the cashier didn't know they were down. Communication is very bad since there are no primary English speakers and the service is very slow.

We were on this side of the island to do some stuff and we were hungry. Decided to stop here to eat breakfast. Man this McDonald's is HUGE! Very spacious with lots of seats. I love all the vibrant colors on the furniture and paintings on the wall! I believe its just been renovated, looks brand spankin new! The playground is huge too!! There's even a TV!! The employees here are a little slow. So was the manager on duty. Food took forever to come out, and they forgot (she said she didn't know) the butter and syrup for my hotcakes which to me is pretty common sense to give if someone orders hotcakes, and also forgot 2 of my hash browns. Ugh! A guy in the lobby area spilt his two drinks and all the employees that were in front including the MANAGER just stopped, stared, and continued doing what they were doing. Not one of them came out to put up a wet floor sign, or even offer the customer to replace the cups which fell on the dirty ground. The food is the same as any other McD's. The service here was pretty bad. No one smiled, no thank yous. Not even the Manager was friendly. I thought Kailua was a friendly town, I guess not for their McDonald's.

I stopped at this McDonalds on my way to Kailua Beach this morning. HUGE MISTAKE!!! They charged me for a sausage, egg, and cheese McGriddle and then kept the egg and cheese. They also left the meat off of the egg white sandwich. One error is just a mistake. Two errors is incomptence!!!

This place is a socializing joint for the employees. The employees would much rather talk to each other than service customers. The manager is pretty useless as well.

I really love the layout of this McDonald's. Spacious and open with a play area inside for the kids. The food is the same food you expect at any McDonald's. Ordered my sausage burritos and they were great. The hash browns were hot and crispy too. I was in and out in less than ten minutes. Got my food, ate, and out the door to look for records.

I was babysitting and left with the Mom-van and $20 to take the kids to McD for dinner. This McDonalds has a slide/play place which was being used only by the 2 girls I was with - they had a blast before and after mealtime! That's why I gave 2 stars instead of just one... TERRIBLE customer service! Before you judge me, please know that my very first job at the age of 15 was at McDonalds and I'm always more than kind to McD employees. I ordered myself a grilled chicken sandwich and ended up with a McChicken. No no no - not the $1 menu mystery chicken patty! I was trying to be moderately healthy. I told the guy who was getting my order together that it was incorrect. The guy who had taken my order mumbled something about "that's not what she said" and that was it, they both went on their McWay and ignored me. I saw someone who looked like the McManager and caught his attention, letting him know what was up, as politely as I could. I wanted GRILLED chicken and would be happy to pay for the difference. He didnt' apologize to me at all, just went to the order taker and told him to fix it. Then, Mr. McMumbles said "there are so many grilled chicken sandwiches! #5, #6, #7..." I had to speak up and tell him - ORIGINAL. GRILLED. CHICKEN. I paid the difference like I said I would, although I didn't think I should have to since it was his McMistake, but I didn't want them to do something yucky to my food. The only thing the manager said to him after the whole ordeal was PAY ATTENTION. Nobody said sorry or offered me a delicious McFlurry to compensate for my troubles. Oh well... I got my grilled chicken sandwich, the lettuce was wilted and the tomato was gross. I only ate half. The kids were thrilled to play there, loved the milk, and ate half of their happy meals - which was good for those picky eaters! McDonalds remains a need-to-eat place for me!

This is a stellar example of horrid customer service, lack of English comprehension, and a general distaste for customers - even repeats. Expect your order to be wrong. Expect the place to be cold and over run with poorly behaved kids. And expect to be yelled at by the employees. Yep. I don't lie. Drive 1/2 a block for Jack or to Aikahi for Burger King. The McD's in Enchanted Lakes is MUCH better. Avoid this one at ALL costs.

Mcdonald's is Mcdonald's comfort food. However, the lady that works there, an older portugese woman is ALWAYS very rude to everyone when I see her. She usually works in the day shift. I think her name is Mary. I hope that my insight will help this worker to clean up her act, because I have seen many people physically move away from her line and go to the next register just to avoid her. I like McDonalds and want to see it continue to succeed.
